Methods to Read the Lenormand Grand Tableau
This post serves as an overarching post about ways you can read the Lenormand Grand Tableau. You should pick and choose depending on what you feel is important in your reading, for yourself or your querent. You can also read all of it, but just a fair warning that you'll be sitting there reading for a While.
This post is written from an assumption that you at least vaguely understand Lenormand meanings. If you don't, you can check Labyrinthos or LenormandReader.
As an extra note, you can use these same methods for the Kipper Grand Tableau, but the layout is four rows of nine instead of four of eight and one of four.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Depicted above: The main way the Lenormand Grand Tableau is laid out (not my preferred method, I prefer the Kipper layout, but for the sake of this post we're gonna use it especially because I need to learn this method better and this post is primarily for myself and anybody else who wants it), using Healing Light Lenormand by Christopher Butler. There is also a chart of the theoretical spread, showing the house on top and the actual card on the bottom, with some highlights to depict the Four Corners and the Center Cards.
The above will also be used as an example when necessary to explain my point.
Always remember that cards being next to or near each other affect each other. Whip next to Bouquet represents a strained or hurting relationship, for example, not things on their lonesome.
If your deck has extra cards, you'll want to cut it down to there only being one of each number, so you have 36 cards. Such as if your deck comes with four people cards, you only want to use two people cards.
Theoretically, you can use this spread with any deck, as long as you cut it down to 36 cards. You can even use tarot, by cutting it down to 36 cards.
⛤ SIGNIFICATORS.
The significators have a lot of ways they're read. The only important one is to read the way the querent's significator faces. If your deck has multiple man/woman cards, and you always make the Querent number 28 like I do, then you don't have to worry about something like this. Otherwise, if the querents card faces left, you read right to left.
Firstly, the row the querent significator is in is the most important row. It's the row you want to consider the most.
Another method is that the card above the Querent Significator is their thoughts, and the card below is their feelings.
Another, the card in front of is what the Querent is focusing on, the card behind is what the Querent is struggling with.
You can also consider that cards closer to the Querent are more important than cards far away from the Querent.
Consider the significators face to each other - Are they facing each other in the spread? Are they back-to-back? This may reflect the relationship between your querent and their companion.
Consider the row placement. The higher the querent, the more control they have over the situation.
Consider the column placement. The more rows ahead of them, the easier time ahead.
Recommended Reading / Watching: Man and Woman: The Lenormand Significators by LenormandReader (link is to the transcripted article, but the article also has the youtube video linked).
⛤ CENTER CARDS.
This method involves starting with the six center cards. They represent the heart of the reading.
There's Whip, Bouquet, Fish, Mice, Heart, and Scythe. Generally, this would say that this reading centers a lot of conflict of emotion and relationships, which may step into ones work life.
⛤ HOUSES.
This method reads the entire spread going through each card in its "house", which counts up in order from 1 to 36. Think of it like this: The drawn card visits the house of the card that belongs there and mirrors them, but their identity isn't wholly covered up by the house they're in.
The drawn card is affected by the house, but is usually louder than the house. Let's take the first card - Cross in the house of Rider. One might be finding a larger drive to focus on their faith as of late, or to tackle difficulties in their life.
You can also choose to read this based on a set list of mixed meanings, such as reading this instead as a painful message, and difficulties. (courtesy of Labyrinthos).
⛤ THE FOUR CORNERS.
The four corners, highlighted in blue, have specific set representative meanings.
The left corners represent the past. The right, the future.
The top corners represent things out of your control, while the bottom represent things in your control.
⛤ ROWS.
One method is, The first row depicts what's out of your control. The second row depicts the present circumstances. The third row depicts what's in your control. The fourth row depicts your fate.
Another method is The first row depicts what's out of your control. The second row depicts the present circumstances. The third row depicts what's in your control. The fourth row depicts your "bottom line", which summarizes the whole reading succintly.
And yet another method is The center rows depicts the present circumstances.  The top row is what’s out of your control.  The bottom row is what’s in your control.
⛤ COLUMNS.
The columns move from left to right, going through the past, present, and future, going through a different stage for each column.
However, you could also change it to read another method: Such as the next 8 months, or 8 years, or 8 weeks or whatever.
⛤ STORYBOOK.
Once you've got all the rest together, you start telling the story, starting in the past then switching into the present and then future, based on where the querent is. I've always read it that the nearer the querent, the more present it is. Remember, if the Querent faces the Left, you read Right-to-Left; if the Querent faces the Right, you read Left-to-Right.

Pockets and You
Pockets! Those little rifts and tears in reality that poke through into small areas of LEPST. This'll be my first informational post on them, including everything I can find.
Pockets can pop up anywhere that has air- as long as there's at least 2 cubic meters of free space, they can tear a Rift. (Learned this via the comparison between my closet and my bathroom. Took a bit of measuring and moving things around.)
Going into a Pocket has been described as similar to walking through spiderwebs. A filmy, microscopically thin area of destabilized space acts as a barrier between our world and the Pocket. This is the Rift.
The interior of a Pocket often appears as a space well-known to humans, but simplified. The most common examples are empty parking lots, or dead malls. Usually less than 2 acres, though certain Kenopsins can tow the line. (Biggest recorded one so far was ~23 acres in Idaho, made up entirely of a corn maze. Apparently the guy started in Bear Gulch and ended up at some camp spot in Granite Creek, with only ten minutes passing.)
The different names for Pockets are only ever used to denote how many independents there are inside. Kenopsins have none, Anemoins have a few roaming, and Sonderins have large groups. (Notably, we do not know yet if there is a distinction between Flora and Fauna when it comes to something being an Independent or a rooted portion of a Pocket. It is quite possible the flora are actually thousands of Independents linked together, much like siphonophores. Something to examine next trip.)
Whether there is enough of a difference between Anemoins and Sonderins for them to deserve different names has been a hot topic between researchers in the past month. (Personally, there's a big enough difference between a few Shade in an old classroom and entire herds of Corporis and Limblets roaming a mall, Penny. But that's neither here nor there.)
Pockets aren't persistent- whatever goes in gets spit out when they de-manifest, and anything that someone attempts to remove from them de-manifests itself at the Rift. The exception is independents, but we don't know yet whether there's a reason some independents can leave and some cannot. (Another thing on my "List of Shit to Look Into")
This has been your introductory look into Pockets!

It's always so weird to come down from the biology heavens to see what the average person believes about animals, plants, ecosystems, just the world around them. I don't even mean things that one simply doesn't know because they've never been told or things that are confusing, I'm talking about people who genuinely do not see insects as animals. What are you saying. Every time I see a crawling or fluttering little guy I know that little guy has motivations and drive to fulfill those motivations. There are gears turning in their head! They are perceiving this world and they are drawing conclusions, they are conscious. And yet it's still a whole thing if various bugs of the world feel pain or if they are simply Instinct Machines that are Not Truly Aware of Anything At All????? Help!!!!!! How can you look at a little guy and think he is just the macroscopic animal version of a virus

actually i do find it hilarious that Derek was all ‘i’m a real actual werewolf with experience of being a werewolf and i can give you advice about how to be a werewolf because i am a werewolf’ and Scott was like ‘sorry my completely human 16 year old best friend just took a double-dose of adderall and went on an 8 hour wikipedia spree so i think he’s got me covered on the werewolf advice stuff :)’

"A story doesn't need a theme in order to be good" I'm only saying this once but a theme isn't some secret coded message an author weaves into a piece so that your English teacher can talk about Death or Family. A theme is a summary of an idea in the work. If the story is "Susan went grocery shopping and saw a weird bird" then it might have themes like 'birds don't belong in grocery stores' or 'nature is interesting and worth paying attention to' or 'small things can be worth hearing about.' Those could be the themes of the work. It doesn't matter if the author intended them or not, because reading is collaborative and the text gets its meaning from the reader (this is what "death of the author" means).
Every work has themes in it, and not just the ones your teachers made you read in high school. Stories that are bad or clearly not intended to have deep messages still have themes. It is inherent in being a story. All stories have themes, even if those themes are shallow, because stories are sentences connected together for the purpose of expressing ideas, and ideas are all that themes are.

ICE raids are happening.
Any immigrants, no matter how long you have been a citizen of the USA, is at risk of being deported either out of the country as a whole or into what are basically concentration camps. Raids starting in Chicago, Illinois. and spreading to other major cities with high POC and Hispanic populations. The US Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) have started raiding homes and families in California.
There are no "protected locations" as of January 21, 2025. Hospitals, schools, and churches are all at risk of being raided, where before these places were deemed safe and off limits to raids.
When it comes to spotting an ICE agent, look for these:
Weirdly neat/well kept hair (shaved heads, side parts, military burs for men; low buns, high ponytails, close cropped bobs for women)
Oversized jacket (long and bulky outerwear makes it easier to hide tools/equipment without being suspicious)
Both hands in pockets
Many undercover agents/cops buy cheap plain clothes off the racks so they aren’t seen in their own clothes. This can make their outfit seem awkward
Sweatshirts with the hood up
Sports apparel (warm up jacket, sweats, etc) with non-sports clothes (jeans, cargo shorts)
Cargo pants/shorts (usually full of items like their badge, flashlight, taser, pepper spray, backup handcuffs, zip ties)
Military or hiking style boots, sometimes chunky sneakers (extra points if none of it matches anything in their outfit)
Outline of a gun in their pants/shirt (easy to see when bending, leaning, or raising arms) (NO NOT SAY ANYTHING)
Overly friendly
Overly inquisitive
“How old are you” and “what do you know about this happening” are both red flags, along with generally odd and personal questions
Don’t fit in
Mismatched pairs in public spaces (usually cops do these things in pairs. They don’t talk to each other or acknowledge each other much, if at all)
DO NOT SAY ANYTHING UNTIL YOU ARE 100% SURE
YOUR BEST BET IS NOT TO SAY ANYTHING UNTIL THE SUSPECT STARTS ACTING OFF AND GETTING PUSHY
COPS ARE NOT OBLIGATED TO TELL YOU THAT THEY ARE UNDERCOVER
COPS CAN AND WILL LIE TO YOU
SCREAM “LA MIGRA” AT THE TOP OF YOUR LUNGS
For protesting:
N95 masks
Respirator/gas mask if you have access to one
Water water water water water (I hate to say it, but disposable one use bottles are best here. If it comes to it, you need to be able to drop and run.) Use for flushing wounds, flushing eyes of tear gas, and of course drinking.
Snacks! You'll be doing a lot of walking and/or running and need to keep that energy up. Trail mix, dried fruit, nuts, granola bars, crackers, jerky/meat sticks, fruit snacks, candy, etc. Think of it like packing your lunchbox for a field trip.
Eyedrops (teargas is a bitch)
Goggles (I bring my old snowboarding goggles)
If you are wearing a t-shirt or have exposed skin, put on fake/temporary tattoos. If you are brought into something and they say you were there, showing a picture of you with the tattoos, show them where that tattoo would be and how there’s nothing there. How would you get rid of a giant flower on your forearm in 2 days anyways?
Wigs fall under the same category as tattoos. The person they're claiming to be you has a blonde bob and you have green hair past your shoulders. It also makes it possible to go with a completely different color without the use of hair dye. This means if they try to arrest you later and try to prove it was you by taking your hair and testing for dye, it won't come back the way they hope. (Thank you @violetrosepetals for this addition!)
Hide your hair. I tuck my hair into my beanie since it’s short. If you have longer hair, try to do the same or tuck it into your shirt. Balaclavas are also a good choice, as they cover both your face and hair.
Power bank
Chargers
Helmet. Any is fine, my personal choice is a skating helmet since they’re rounder and can take more damage, but tactical is also good
Hand sanitizer
Gloves with hard knuckles (tactical gloves). These pack a good punch even if you don't have the correct form. Don't have those? Wrist guards for roller skating/skateboarding work kinda like that too. More of a slapping motion, but still hurt like a bitch. Extra points if they're all scuffed up from use and falls.
Bandanas. Somebody might need one for their face or hair, maybe you need to get dirt off somebody’s face, maybe somebody got injured. They’re great for anything and everything.
Cash (try to stick to cash, your card can be tracked)
Medications if you take them. If you get arrested or happen to somehow be away for longer than expected after the protest, it’s always good to have emergency meds
FIRST AID ALL THE FIRST AID (Tourniquet, Quikclot, chest seal, trauma shears, gauze, bandages, duct tape, and all the usual stuff you’d have in there)
Good shoes. Boots and sneakers are your best choices. Not heels, not platforms, not sandals. Good boots or shoes that won't come off your feet too easily when you run. Steel toed shoes are a great option. Your toes won't be squashed, but also it'll hurt someone a lot more if you start kicking.
Spare socks. Trust me. You can use them to stop bleeding if it comes to it, but also you can put rocks in there and boom weapon. Also if the socks you're wearing get wet.
As much covering clothing as you can handle. Plain jeans, plain hoodie, plain t-shirt, keep yourself as anonymous as possible. Black and baggy is best.
Photocopy of your ID, not your real one.
Sunscreen!
Make sure your clothes have pockets, even if you have a bag. You want everything to be easily accessible.
Do not wear contact lenses. If tear gas is used, that will make everything so much worse. Wear your glasses or go blind. If you have overly unique or identifiable frames, goggles are your friend here. Get some goggles that will fit over your frames, preferably ones that are tinted.
If you use mobility aids, cover defining features. Logos, brand names, colors, stickers, all of it. Take some old plain t-shirt and tie it around your wheelchair’s backrest. Wrap your wheelchair frame in cling wrap, then duct tape, or plain black self adhering medical tape. Cover stickers on your cane or crutches the same way. Electric chair? You have a little more work, but you can do it. Wrap it up. Same idea. Walker? Same thing. Cover. It. All.
If you are bringing a bag, make sure that bag is as plain as possible. No pins. No patches. No keychains. Except maybe a pride flag so people know which team you're playing on.
Scarf or keffiyeh if you have one. They have many uses!
Write a reliable phone number (of someone who is not at the protest with you) on your body. On the off chance you get arrested, that is your emergency contact.
Pocket knife.
Pepper spray/mace/bear spray
if you get tear gassed, shake around first before using water. Most tear gas is more of a powder and water has a high likelihood of just spreading it around. (Thank you @actually-a-bread-loaf for this addition!)
Tennis rackets also work wonderfully for chucking tear gas canisters back at those throwing them. Anybody asks, you're going out to play tennis with friends later. Baseball bats also work! (Thank you @azul-nova-24 for this addition!)
Anything you can throw. Soup for my family.
IF YOU CAN, LEAVE YOUR PHONE AT HOME
IF YOU HAVE TO TAKE IT WITH YOU, TURN OFF LOCATION SERVICES ON ALL APPS AND TURN OFF BIOMETRICS (FACE ID AND FINGERPRINT) SO YOU CAN ONLY UNLOCK YOUR PHONE WITH YOUR PASSWORD
COPS CAN FORCE YOU TO OPEN YOUR PHONE WITH YOUR FINGERPRINT OR FACE ID
MAKE SURE SOMEBODY KNOWS GENERALLY WHERE YOU ARE
If you see a potential or active raid, take pictures and note the time and location. Post online if you can, as well.
You have the right to remain silent. State that you wish to remain silent. Avoid giving information about anybody's immigration status. You have the right to refuse to sign anything before speaking to an attorney. You have the right to refuse searches of your car, your home, and yourself. Schools do not collect a child's immigration status.
I do not want to scare anybody, but this is what life is right now. That man does not care how long you have been a citizen of this country. If you are not a white, cisgender, heterosexual, Christian male, you are seen as less than by men in power. You are not less than. You are a threat to them, and they are scared. Keep it that way.
Even if you're not currently protesting, it's good to know this just in case. Things are happening very quickly, and there is a very high chance of it changing very quickly within the next four years.
Here's the link to my post on what to bring in terms of first aid.
If you cannot attend protests, that’s fine. Do what’s best for you. Even just reposting information helps.
This is an updated version of this post,

Danny, poor, down on his luck, on the run and in desperate need of funds: I bet I know more about that Lazarus water than you.
Tim: Ridiculous we have spent years trying to study it.
Danny: I bet you 10 thousand dollars.
Tim: You don't have that much money.
Danny: No, but you do, and I am sure I am right. Deal?
Tim: Sure, but don't worry I am nice enough to not actually make you pay.
Danny: * Gives a detailed, scientific break down of Lazarus water and how it functions *
Tim:
Danny: I don't accept checks. Cash only.

That fucking DIY wheelchair post is going around again, and none of the people reblogging it are reblogging a version that talks about the risks of using homemade mobility aids that don't fit you properly - such as that they can make your pain worse or cause pressure sores that lead to terrible infections.
I did see a couple of additions about how cool and punk it is. I don't know, is getting sepsis punk?

My favourite alternative news resources for staying informed:
Garbage Day — As an internet user, you are affected by the state of the internet — I’ve long read this newsletter for its analysis of culture through the lens of internet ephemera, but in recent weeks Garbage Day has also become one of the very best sources of breaking news and analysis about the ongoing coup. Even if you subscribe to nothing else in this e-mail, you are certain to discover a variety of journalists and news publishers via this publication (many of the independent journalists linked below I originally found via a link in Garbage Day.)
404 Media — As a reader of my work, you are affected by US anti-pornography laws, which limit freedom of sexual expression online — Sam Cole (ex-senior editor for Motherboard) at the independent news publication 404 Media does the best reporting on news related to these topics of any individual journalist I'm aware of. 404 Media is an internet and technology news platform that was co-founded by four journalists: a writer, two senior editors, and the editor-in-chief of Motherboard.
What the Fuck Just Happened Today? — As a person who lives in the world right now, you are, unfortunately, affected to some extent by US politics — WTFJHT delivers an extremely lucid, concise, once-per-day summary of US political news.
Law Dork — As a person affected to some extent by US politics, it is in your interest to understand US law. Chris Geidner (US Supreme Court expert and ex-BuzzFeed legal editor) is the best source I can recommend for informative, detailed reporting + analysis of, in particular, LGBTQ+ political and legal issues in US news.
Erin in the Morning — Erin Reed (trans rights activist and ex-digital director for TheAmerican Independent) is one of the best sources for all news regarding the fight for trans rights in the US; in-depth coverage of the wave of anti-trans legislation and how people are fighting back. Very difficult and vitally important work.
Notes on the Crises — Nathan Tankus (economist and self-taught monetary policy expert.) This is a finance-focused publication that has pivoted to full-time coverage of Elon Musk's activities within the treasury. It has been one of the first places to break news of Musk's activities and has been cited in the lawsuits against him.
Popular Information — Judd Legum (founder of the now-defunct ThinkProgress.) Highly influential investigative reporting; also publishes the newly-minted Musk Watch, focused on Elon Musk’s activities.
Public Notice — Aaron Rupar (ex-Vox journalist.) Notable reporting on the activities of the US right wing for a progressive audience.
WIRED — Believe it or not, the tech-focused magazine WIRED has been consistently publishing what is universally considered to be some of the best reporting on all breaking news WRT Elon Musk’s ongoing bureaucratic coup.
