I hear it’s HMPV which is a common cold virus that runs around the US every season. It’s nothing new, we just don’t routinely test for it since it doesn’t impact treatment. We know it runs around seasonally since we tested tons of patients with respiratory viral panels during the past few years that include HMPV. It can be a nasty cold but it’s not covid-24.

What those guys have in the locker room from the tweets? With everyone in the locker room getting it, being more sick than they’ve been in their entire life, and only being able to down a few berries and Gatorade? TBH that sounds like Influenza (the flu). Which is— BTW—at extremely high numbers at peak flu season. Everyone underestimates the flu! It’s nasty and will lay out super healthy adults for a week and kill older ones.

If you haven’t gotten your flu shot yet this year, you still can! And it’ll still help! And even if you still get the flu it’ll be milder and shorter! Influenza is bad!

I've been sick for more than two weeks now. Anyways. Don't expect lots of posts. I might be saying that now but at the same time I might also post in a lot in some days. I never actually know if I will actually post. Now, pretty unrelated to this but we aren’t feeling really well around here. With all the shit going on in the USA, plus the new I don't know how it's called in English, here it's called « tarifs douaniers », we are now boycotting all the US products so yay. A weird thing people do pretty regularly is that they'll fight me when I say I had the flu in March of 2020. They're always certain I had covid or I had covid AND the flu. I tested positive for influenza B at the time, I know I was exposed 2 days earlier and the person I got it from got sick a couple hours before me, there was no covid in my county for me to have been exposed to at the time, the course of the illness was very typical of the flu and extremely irregular of covid, when I was tested for covid antibodies when that became available in May I tested negative, and now that I've definitely had covid I can say it felt nothing like covid. There was just ALSO a really bad flu strain that winter

And most importantly, it doesn't fucking matter to anyone but me if it was the flu or covid. I generally talk about it to lead into the story about a dude trying to make fun of me for wearing a mask when I had a highly infectious respiratory illness or to talk about the time I coughed up blood. It does not matter in 2024 if either of those were caused by covid or the flu, let me just tell my fucking story.

Una relazione scientifica dell'Autorità europea per la sicurezza alimentare (EFSA) e del Centro europeo per la prevenzione e il controllo delle malattie (ECDC) valuta i fattori di rischio per una potenziale pandemia influenzale e le relative misure di mitigazione. Gli esperti hanno identificato alcune specie di animali da pelliccia d'allevamento (come visone o volpi), che sono altamente sensibili ai virus dell'influenza, come possibili fattori di diffusione. Sebbene la trasmissione da mammiferi a mammiferi non sia ancora stata confermata, i mammiferi selvatici potrebbero fungere da ospiti ponte tra uccelli selvatici, animali domestici e esseri umani.
