I notice your artstyle changed quite a bit, are you trying new things?

Well – I love drawing faces now. Came a long way from avoiding drawing Wade and Peter's faces like the plague.

I think it's mostly down to the passage of time, and that I'm using different equipment! There's three art eras of the blog – the first, where I used a flimsy little Samsung tablet for my posts... I don't even remember what app I used.

The second, where I used a flimsy little screenless Wacom graphics tablet and Photoshop – I wasn't drawing directly on a screen, so my lines were always wobbly and scritchy and weird.

And now I use Procreate on iPad! And I get nice, smooth, delicious lines.

It's kind of funny – I used to be so frustrated in that middle era of the blog, about my art. I used to be so upset that I couldn't get nice, smooth lines. I'd get so jealous over artists with nice clean lineart. Now I get the nice clean lines, but a lot of people prefer the rough lines I had before, and I kind of love them too. It's a funny old world.

Thoughts on the whole Mr. Beast situation?

None at all and even googling it doesn't really spell it out very well. I guess someone in his network was accused of grooming? Not even he himself. Just someone he employs. And people were upset it took him so long to say or do anything about it.

Listen. If there is one person on this planet I do not care about, it's MrBeast. He is incredibly rich, getting richer, and he exists in a world entirely separated from all my interests. He is way too much of a general purpose Youtuber for me to care about. He is a content factory brand to me and I am deeply suspicious of him on every level, because he feels like a fake plastic human putting out fake plastic videos.

In my entire life, I have only seen half of one MrBeast video, ever, and it was fairly recently: I was pet sitting for a cousin last week, her son watches MrBeast, and their Samsung Smart TV auto loaded to the 24/7 MrBeast channel where he was doing some kind of isolation chamber challenge.

I was surprised how earnest and personable Jimmy himself actually was, but his entourage controlling the isolation chamber were like... they reminded me of Biff Tannen's goons from Back to the Future or something.

That vibe of being like, some combination of Yes-men, nobodies, and D-list clowns. Most people probably don't even know Biff's cronies even have names (from left to right: Skinhead, 3D and Match). They are only here to crawl around in the star's shadow and laugh at all their jokes.

The dudes in that MrBeast video felt the same way. They felt like they were grown in a vat of Youtube Prank Channel parts.

So strike one: I do not care about MrBeast. Unless he gives me two million dollars. Then I'll watch every MrBeast video ever made until the day I die.

Two, I feel like pointing fingers and accusing someone of being a groomer is like, the most boy who cried wolf witch hunt of our era. I am rapidly reaching my tolerance level for finger pointing about intent because I feel like half the time I hear about it, it's nothing. Obviously it's different when it's DrDisrespect and multiple investigations have proven he was arranging a meetup with a minor and even the man himself has come right out and said "it's true but I never went through with it so technically by the strictest letter of the law I didn't do anything illegal!"

But I also feel like there are certain communities both on discord and on tumblr where accusations of grooming get thrown around a lot more casually by the younger crowd because it's an easy way to lash out at somebody you don't like.

From the perspective of a guy like MrBeast, I'm sure if he really put his ear to the ground he'd hear a hundred accusations of grooming going in all kinds of directions.

If he was a little slow launching an investigation? He's only human. His team is only human. And treating allegations like that seriously enough to do a real thorough investigation takes a lot of work. Again, if he jumped at every time somebody pointed a finger, he'd be wasting a lot of resources. I'm willing to give him slack here. It's terrible when it's real, but a lot of the time it probably isn't.

I know sometimes I say dumb things on this blog. I can think of at least two posts right now from the last year where it sometimes hits me that I said something really dumb. And that's not even counting all the stuff I'm sure some people just straight up misunderstand me about.

But this feels like busy-body stuff. The supposed groomer was already fired on the same day the investigation was started. They haven't even found anything for or against her yet. Beyond that, who cares.

Wilbur

- Prone to singing or humming whenever given the chance, when there's an audience he puts So Much Effort into it but he'll do it when he's alone aswell - Her first instinct in most situations is to laugh, she doesn't mean to but it just sorta slips out regardless of the circumstances - By far my wildest Wilbur hc: Wilbur is a nature spirit- my basis for this is mostly Greek mythology. In Greek mythology it's common for the children of gods and immortals to be some sort of nymph or dryad (basically a nature spirit) and the concept of nature spirits is a really vast one that can range from "pretty lady found in Trees" (Dryad) or "Unidentified mystical energy" for my HCs I tend to use more of the ladder. So Wilbur is a physical manifestation of the wilds, basically a shapeshifter but add a connection to the world itself. In theory he has no "true" form but the form he took when he was born was just a straight up fox (later learned how to shift into a more humanoid form as he grew) - More thoughts on nature spirit Wilbur ahead: how she appears and how well she can hold her form is entirely dependent on her current state, because of this she changed a lot between L'manburg and Pogtopia :3 When she first came to the SMP she looked almost entirely human, save for a few "off" traits (strange eyes, fangs, slightly pointed ears, ect.) but when Pogtopia hit she changed rather suddenly, becoming more like Fundy in appearance. Ghostbur was just a straight up spectral fox, and post revival Wilbur always has a few fox-like traits showing that she can't seem to get rid of - All of their mannerisms are slightly off- they don't quite emote "right". When they're fully human they come off as oddly animalistic, when they're more animal-like they're weirdly human. They tried to play themselves off as at least Mostly human for awhile but gave up pretty quickly - Has no fucking clue what his species is because of the samsung smart fridge nonsense- honestly he just assumes that he was Born Weird. When asked he's always weirdly cryptic about it - God awful cook, y'know those posts about people fucking up their food in unbelievable ways? That's Wilbur. Do not let her into the kitchen she will burn water - Disaster bi, seemingly most attracted to people who are either actively against her or have done shitty things to her in the past and she Cannot be normal about it (See: all of the shit said about Schlatt, Eret, Quackity, the list goes on) - Touchy but only when they're in a good mood. L'manburg era they'd always be putting an an arm around someone's shoulder or ruffling people's hair, small acts of physical affection, but any other time they've actively shied away from touch unless it's initiated by them. This is mostly because they're easily overstimulated by touch (despite being incredibly touch starved post revival)

Eret

- Wither hybrid, they can shift to hide some of their wither parts. When they were apart of L'manburg they also played themselves off as human - Loves to bake and stress bakes when especially stressed out- I like to think her and Niki would often bake together - Looking directly into his eyes activates a person's flight or fight response, which is why so many people have gotten Jumpscared by his eyes in the past - Probably has one of the best fashion senses in the entire SMP and yet only really dresses up whenever someone is coming over (90% of the time she just lounges about in comfy clothes, we love a comfy queen) - His memory is absolutely god awful so he's prone to writing things down or- more often- taking photos. A lot of the pictures from early L'manburg were taken by him - The L'manburg uniforms were made with Tommy and Eret's combined efforts (Wilbur supervised and occasionally stabbed himself trying to help <3) - Sews all of their own clothes, they'd love to sew for someone else but they haven't gotten the chance to outside of the uniforms (if they did they'd probably make an entire wardrobe though) - She's the one that taught Tommy to sew :3

Niki

- Catgirl c!niki supremacy - She likes churus (the cat treat) and will eat them like gogurt - Being as close to Wilbur as she was she's absolutely heard way too much about all of Wilbur's awful crushes on their enemies (she can never look at Eret the same way again) - She has autistic girl swagger idk what it is but she just does. Has the most unsettling stare known to man (by complete accident) - Despite being a cat hybrid she enjoys playing around in local bodies of water, big fan of stomping around in rivers

Okay, so this au is supposed to be reminiscent of the 2018 gacha life era, Y'know the ones I'm talking about, the "hated child becomes hybrid prince" glmms; I've seen quite a few of these through these 17 years of life and I've also seen quite a few "If *insert character/person here* was in these glmms" going around and, since DanTDM is my special interest, I decided to make this a thing; is this probably gonna end up with me on r/gachalifecringe?? Probably, but idc, cringe culture is dead >:)

(Also here's the obligatory statement: this is c!Dan, not the actual youtuber/person)

It should also be noted that this au also refrances Shady oaks smp + Darkiplier vs Antisepticeye a lot (Idc that Dark vs Anti wasn't meant to be canon, let me have my possessed Minecraft boi- 😭)

Buuuutttt enough rambling, here a mini lore dump:

•As you can see, Dan is supposed to be a "hybrid", but if we want to be technical with this, he's a mix between a demon and a werewolf.

•In this au, he's bi + transmasc and he also has autism + anxiety because if I can't be cishet + neurotypical, neither can he /hj

•He is royalty via bloodlines and stuff, but he doesn't actually find out about this until about a quarter into the actual storyline

•The amulet was a sentimental thing kept after his mother's passing and is thus something he's VERY attached to, it also glows when he's in his hybrid form because yeeee

•He also does wear glasses in this au but I can't draw glasses for the life of me sooo- Q-Q

•Also Darko exists in this au but I'm still trying to figure out how to fit him in seamlessly so we'll cross that bridge when we get there lol

one thing my parents did when i was a child is they put a passcode on all the channels i watched on tv cause i was watching too much tv. the thing is they didn’t really interact with me much or play with me, so i just ended up being bored

i’d watch other channels besides the locked ones it didn’t change jack shit, also it’s not like i was watching nick,disney and cartoon network all the time, i literally watch hgtv and animal planet

id also just watch youtube, part of the reason i stopped watching tv as much was because they blocked the channels i’d just watch youtube on my tablet

my parents got me a small samsung tablet when i was 10 for christmas, i didn’t even want it that much i remember pointing it out at the store being like that’s cool

i used that tablet until i was 14 and got my own ipod

cause of my parents neglect and lack of monitoring like even on the family computer they barely monitored me but it was even less when i got my own tablet it was much easier to hide things

I made my own youtube channel when i was 11 and now those videos are very deleted but looking back I was very easy pedo bait

when i was like 14 i got into onision but thats neither here nor there i literally interacted with him on twitter I am LUCKY

I was very active online when I was very young, i had unmonitored internet access at 10. As far as I remember nothing seriously bad happened, but i did get exposed to a lot of adult content at a very young age

my parents really just handed me at 10 a tablet instead of parenting, if cheap samsung tablets were a thing earlier they would have done it earlier. 2012/2013 is when they really started to go on the market, ah yes the early smartphone era.

Just giving your kid a phone or tablet instead of interacting with them is a form of neglect, you are not dealing with your kids mental and emotional needs.

RUN BTS: THE ANALYTICS | Episodes 41-60

Overall stats:

There were a lot of really great episodes this section! Protect the BTS Village, BTS Outing, the Amusement park... I could go on. But as you can see by the trailing dots at the end, my rankings for the last half dozen were falling. We're also in a trend where the YouTube uploads don't have English translations. When these were first uploaded, there was a statement that they knew some were missing but it's been long enough now that I'm going to give up on getting any that weren't migrated. It's just a little more complex for me to do these watch-throughs on my smartTV via weverse so I'm still very disappointed. (You'd think with their overt partnership with BTS, that Samsung and Weverse would have a better user experience but alas... I usually open the episode on my weverse app and then it's at least findable via my recent...) Anyway...rant over, let's get on to the rest of the statistics:

Title Songs:

We are finally out of the Blood Sweat and Tears era! Not that I dislike this as a theme song but it was definitely starting to feel like we'd NEVER get to one of the others. BST is absolutely the song that I think of most when it comes to the show. I'm curious how the stats will actually measure up to the other songs. The pie chart for WINGS will never be as big as it right now on these analytics any more.

Wins:

Yoongi getting a nice little bump this section. Nice change after getting so many punishments in the previous review.

Losses:

JK and JH! Will we ever see JK's loss percentage this high again?? Amazingly the overall group percentages are exceedingly tight.

Best Cheater:

Jin definitely standing out a little more in this category. And Yoongi is practically disappearing!

The standout cheating moment this section is absolutely the sports section during BTS outing: ALL.OF.BTS. Seriously, that episode is absolutely pivotal in the members learning how they can manipulate the staff to get what they want if they can sell it as entertainment for the show.

process stages & comments below

process: i did 70% of this (up to img #6) on my samsung tablet, on my train commutes, battling motion sickness & neck pain lmao

drawing on my tablet is still a lot harder & feels more restrictive for me bc i'm limited by unfamiliar software (still learning CSP) and lack of keyboard shortcuts (my digital art workflow for years). i also struggle with starting / continuing artworks on my tablet unless i've already planned / sketched most of the composition on my PC. likely because 90% of the time when i'm drawing on the tablet, it's on the train. hard to get in the zone as it turns out lol

this is the first full painting i've started and made substantial progress on purely with my samsung tab, so i'm happy it's starting to feel a bit more natural.

also first time i've tried doing a funky gradient map as a colour base. then applied colour on top with multiply blending mode. 10/10 would use fun gradient maps again - helped me introduce more colour variation bc i feel like my colours are usually quite flat by comparison

given the nature of the fucking bumpy melbourne trains & my broken commutes, i can still only do so much rendering on my tablet. the more refined painting will probably always happen using photoshop on my PC bc that's where i feel i have the most control

i tried not to overwork / overpaint it too much as i often tend to do, and kept the brush strokes rough and loose as much as possible. made sure my brush wasn't set smaller than a certain size so i wasn't tempted to go into fine detail. you can see i didn't refine harry's form/clothes much beyond img #4 because i didn't want to lose the soft/loose quality of the clothing folds. pretty damn proud of that shoe though. but then i posted it before i realised i forgot to paint in his fucking tie lmaoooo

but yeah, i got my tablet as a secondary drawing device to help me draw more often so i'm gonna keep trying to get the hang of it !!

composition/concept: the pose was referenced from this shot of arthur in peaky blinders and i had a vision of HDB slumped over in his kitchen like this

the composition was built around that, and i had the idea of framing it him in shadow and having a strip of light from a doorway illuminating his body. evidence of his drinking and smoking are kept in the shadows.

the original idea was to have a silhouette of someone standing in the doorway (likely jean finding him), but it didn't work with the overall balance & i felt like it interrupted the shape of the light too much / wasn't very legible at that angle. kitchen design was inspired by soviet & post-soviet era style kitchens.

About how much money each member made, you are undermining how much money concerts/touring bring. It's basically the biggest money maker for every music artist, literally. They make cents selling music, specially streams. That's why during covid Hybe was desperate and Bangtan promoted so many brands, they needed to made up for all the money lost. Yoongi tour was not heavily promoted and was completely sold out, so he surely made a lot of money. And there's also the docu and samsung.

Someone mentioned that it's possible that Hybe didnt want to expend money on Tae promotion because they know that he sells well either way. I would add that during solo era this couls also be Tae choice. Artists receive money in advance to record an album/tour/MV and they need to pay back the company afterwards. We dont know how their contract works, but I think it would be possible for them to be more involved in this type of decision now. And if I knew my fans would sold out everything, I wouldn't expend a lot of money either with promotions. Although, he probably did expend a lot of money recording one MV per song. These things aren't cheap.

Sorry I’m not gonna entertain a conversation based on “Tae chose to have that kind of promotion”, I don’t agree I never agreed and I talked about that narrative too many times and everyone on here is tired of reading about it.

I did say that the money went back with Yoongi tour because it was sold out and tours are expensive, but let’s not pretend a tour isn’t a huge promo for an artist. He got good promo, it’s nothing bad.
