Caring

CW/TW: aftermath of abuse and noncon, basic home medical care, pet whump, BBU/WRU.
“It’s my fault,” she says, cleaning his wounds with an alcohol-soaked cloth. “I argued with him.”
He hisses through his teeth at the sting. “He’s the owner. He does what he wants.”
With his fingertips, he touches the darkening bruise on her face. She presses her face into his cupped fingers, for a long moment. Then she resumes tending his injuries, applying bandages and salve.
“Can you stand? I need to wash the sheets.”
Don’t bleed on the sheets. He swings his legs over the side of the bed. His head spins; his vision darkens. “I need-a little help.”
He leans on her, and she gets him to a chair. She strips the bed efficiently, then remakes it with an identical set of white sheets. She fluffs the pillows and pulls a coverlet over it all, before helping him back to the bed. She tucks a soft fleece blanket over him.
“Sleep and heal. I’ll bring you some soup later.”
“Can you just-just stay for a while? Until I fall asleep.”
She lays down next to him, molding her body to his without thinking, only the thin blanket between them. A shudder runs through his body. She strokes his hair, soothing the fear away.
“Thank you,” he whispers, “for caring.”

At this point I don't think Teruki's parents are exceptionally horrible individuals (long-term psychological consequences still happen in cases in which the abuse isn't considered particularly severe + everyone is capable of harm, even "good" people), but they weren't the best, without a doubt.
Okay, they got too busy with their jobs and had to move overseas to progress on their career. External circunstances. Things that happen. They left their son behind, but that could always be justified by hectic schedules of ever-moving businesspeople. How else could he have a stable routine to focus on his future? They're just busy. Teruki hasn't seen them in long but that's not their fault, right?
They cared for Teruki, didn't they? His parents made sure that there was someone home to watch him whenever they were far away. It was inevitable that there would be times he would be with himself, though. But that's not bad! It only became a problem once those strange espers tried to take hold of him on the street. And even then, they were so weak he could barely give them the title of a psychic. It wasn't an issue that it happened more and more and there was no one to intervene. Or that Teruki had to torture descriptions of "Claw organization" and "brainwashed soldiers" out of these grownups to know what they wanted with him. His parents couldn't know. Why should they know? Better put: what could they do?
What could a normal person do against someone with psychic powers?
It was Teruki's choice to live by himself. He could manage it all. Contrary to the other kids, he was an independent and responsible young man who could be trusted with a house and money. Such a great boy. His parents were so proud to have someone as competent as him as a son, one which wouldn't mean hard work for them. One who always had the best grades and was the soccer team's best player and was the best student on the town's best middle school.
Of course they would suddenly allow Teruki to live on his own. Any parent with a child like him would, wouldn't they? Anyone on their right mind and who knew the slightlest about him would be sure he could do it.
And even if this "Claw" organization scared him a bit and he felt a bit lonely at times, it wasn't an issue. Issue would mean it was an obstacle - which it wasn't, as Teruki did perfectly on his own. His parents believed on so. That's why he had his own apartment at 12 on the first place. Teruki was so wonderful at this. It wasn't horrible if they didn't answer his calls, because they were so busy and he wasn't a little kid who depends on his mommy. None of this was their fault. He shouldn't bother them or himself over this.
Because they cared, right? On the end, it was only a pile of tragic circunstances and coincidences no normal person could act against. It was part of life as someone special like him. He couldn't expect that his parents could change any of this, and this made his loneliness the best possible choice. It was obvious that they would support such a decision.
What would a normal person do against someone with psychic powers?

Lego, currently shedding, has been enjoying this toy that drops treats!
He gets quite violent with it, as he aggressively rolls it from one side of the room to the other. Maybe he thinks that rolling it faster makes it drop more treats.

IDK I guess at the end of the day, I don't think people understand the differences in energy requirements for different breeds and more importantly individual dogs. Ever is a higher energy dog than Moxie, she needs more pure physical movement to be content where as Moxie requires more mental work than Ever and likes to watch out the windows and such. Both of them spend most of the day dozing on their own accord. And both are high drive dogs when it comes to work.
Simply conflating the physical energy requirements with the mental stimulation requirements puts the dogs at a disadvantage in the human-dog relationship. I think you can generalize OK by breed, better by line, and best by individual on what the requirements are for any given dog, but I think they are still subject to change over time and circumstances.

reading caboose's page on the rvb fan wiki is kinda sickening ngl. please learn how to reference people with tbi like. "this is caboose. he is very stupid. there is major brain damage or w/e but liek. his main attributes are his idiocy and how fucking dumb he is. basically a baby if it could talk. cant even use a gun" thats fucked up. i personally know several people with tbis who are still happily married (possibly sexually active, i never asked), full ass adults with lives and cares and worries and struggles. its so unfair that everyone treats wash's cerebral hypoxia with grace and delicacy (bar the whole character arc of carolina handling it with less grace and more fear) but caboose is just an idiot? why does wash get that "is this what donut feels like all the time" but not "is this what caboose feels all the time"? it breaks my heart (and scares me) that when seeing someone struggling with understanding their reality and word comprehension a lot of reactions are just "stupid"
tldr: stop fucking treating diabled people like invalids for fucks sake
(edit: ive been informed that caboose suffers from an abi (aquired brain injury), not a tbi (traumatic brain injury).)
