Okay, genuinely, what is the downside to imitation crab. I don’t understand. It’s cheap, low calorie, and while yeah it’s not remotely nutritious, it’s still not bad for you. Like it’s just white fish mush and starch with some preservatives.

Local Kine Wontons
A popular recipe from Hawaii is these wontons filled with cream cheese and imitation crab. Serve them with a selection of Asian-inspired dipping sauces. 1 can water chestnuts drained and chopped, 2 tablespoons soy sauce, 5 green onions chopped, 2 packages cream cheese softened, 1 package imitation crabmeat flaked, 1 quart oil for frying or as needed, 2 packages wonton wrappers

I am THIS close to re-reblogging the sushi poll again, but explaining what "imitation krab" is in a proper post of Notes.
It's part of a category of food called surimi. There's other kinds of ways it can be shaped, but it's a type of fine fish paste.
IT'S FISH.
It's technically a form of ~processed food~, yes, but it's also not some kind of bizarre artificial substance that came out of a spooky lab or something.
It's fish.
The closest analogous food I can think of is, like, gefilte fish.

You guys, I’m sorry but whenever I see Mipha I just can’t help but think she looks like imitation crab. I love her and all but her color palette and the shape of her head convinces me she has the taste and texture of said crab…

Was tagged in this (slightly alarmist) how-it's-made-esque video on fb, and I still can't believe some people are surprised that imitation crab isn't real crab. It's made up of mostly surimi (pollock white fish, actual fish which isn't a misnomer), and not the worst thing in the world imo. To think something that's also called artificial crab was made... artificially in the mass produced sense, wild.
