main take aways from Halloween (1978) rewatch:
michael myers is canonically 21??? this bitch should be at the club
*sees tiddies* ***MURDEROUS RAMPAGE NOISES***
that's it that's the movie
outside of the fact that everyone who has sex is murdered by the narrative, this is a surprisingly chill portrayal of female sexuality? these teen girls are horny and actively enjoying Getting It On with their boytoys. no pushy boyfriends sneaking in through their bedroom windows--these ladies are taking the initiative to sneak out and GET SOME. one of them gets laid and then immediately orders her boyfriend to get her a beer. (yes she gets Slashered soon afterward, but so does the boyfriend so honestly, gender equality.) yes the Final Girl is the only one not having sex, but she's not bullied for that, nor are her friends slut shamed except possibly by being murdered by the narrative
actually the only character who is shown being morally condemned on-screen is michael myers. specifically FOR his violent overreaction to other people's sex lives. (people he is spying on). metaphorically, the villain is American Puritanism sticking its judgy nose into other people's business.
aka Michael Myers Is A Republican
but actually the real villain is the doctor. guy's a judgemental, shaming, pathologizing asshole. and he's been in charge of michael's care since he was SIX YEARS OLD? kid never had a chance. i'd go on a killing spree too
also the parents. where are the parents? it's halloween night and all the teenage girls are home babysitting their younger siblings? come to think of it, michael's first victim was his own older sister, whom he killed while she was babysitting him. teen girls are really shouldering a labour burden here. maybe parentification is the true villain
side note: mike commits his first murder wearing a clown costume...which is never referenced again? his 'iconic' costume is a generic mask and wig and jumpsuit, when we coulda had a Killer Clown Michael Myers??? travesty
i like how the Final Girl and her friend casually smoke weed in her car. yeah she's an honor student and her friend is the sheriff's daughter. yeah they smoke weed. so what it's 1978
(to reiterate, mike is 21 and should be at the club. im not saying he shouldn't be rampaging, im saying it's sad that he broke out, tasted freedom for the first time in his life, and immediately snuck back into his childhood home to go rampaging. let's have a remake where he goes to a nightclub and has a few beers. maybe some slutty dancing. then rampage)
oh no he's hot
#HALLOWEEN#halloween the movie#michael myers#do you think he's a mike? mikey? to his friends? if slashers had friends?#i'll be honest i was expecting this movie to be way more of a bitch to its female characters#i mean yeah they died but so did some dudes#there's just a lack of cattiness compared to the way most later movies portrayed teenage girls idk#yeah the Final Girl is a Virgin and a Bookworm. but there's no bullying or any strong sense that's she's morally superior to everyone else#mostly she AND the other girls feel a bit sorry for her lack of a social life. one even tries to set her up with a date to the school dance#solidarity! trying to get your nerd friend laid!#overall it's just teenagers being teenagers and then a slasher comes in and ruins everything with his Lack Of Chill#like yeah dude sometimes teenagers have sex. get over it#also something to be said about how while the girl who survives is the one who isn't sexually active and dresses conservatively...#ultimately those things aren't ENOUGH to prevent her from being targeted#you could say that the other girls 'provoked' the villain (the same way women irl are so often accused of provoking their attackers)#but ultimately that doesn't keep the Final Girl safe. it just delays the inevitable.#because violent men never need excuses. no matter how eager society is to provide them.#ultimately she is at the mercy of the same violent whims because it was never her behavior that invited the violence.#gendered violence doesn't need an invitation.#also she doesn't save herself the doctor saves her#it's not her actions or choices that put her in danger OR save her from it--once again it is the whim of a man#no this wasn't intended to be a feminist movie it's just fun how you could argue it that way

WE ARE | EP16
#we are#we are the series#we are series#tanfang#aou thanaboon#aouboom#boom tharatorn#my edits#weareedit#AOUBOOM MAIN LEADS WHEN???#i do appreciate them and the way they’ve been portraying tanfang#i know tan was a bit over the top 99% of the time#but every scene and touch felt so genuine#and i’m not gonna credit that to new#bc he wasn’t able to direct ppw in a way that didn’t make their kisses look a bit awkward#i know scenes have to look aesthetically pleasing in some way#and that’s why we keep having to deal the ‘no one would kiss with this much space for jesus between each other’ complaints#but like look at aouboom here#this is mostly them and their acting choices in my humble opinion#and don’t get me started on the pecks#ppw BARELY touched the other one’s lips when they had to do a peck kiss#like cmon the difference between ppw and aouboom pecks is insane#i’m sorry for picking on ppw but i’m a bit sad that some of their romantic scenes were a bit lackluster#especially that very last kiss which tbh i rather wouldn’t have seen bc it felt a bit awkward to me#but that may be just me#i need new to get a bit more frisky with kiss scenes when it comes to his directing#bc i feel like friskier kiss scenes only happen when the actors mostly do their thing after finding out what the director wants#(maybe i’m completely wrong about new but tkdkfdkddkdk)#and don’t get me wrong idgaf if there are kisses or not but if there’s a kiss scene you should commit instead of holding yourself back idk#and ppw definitely need a better director to help them achieve that bc jojo was definitely better at directing them

If Rick changed Medusa for the Roman Myth in the TV show to be more 'sensitive', then he better do the same with calling out Calypso and what SHE did to Odysseus as well.
I still like PJO even though some of the changes Riordan did aren't great and make me sad but I feel like I can still enjoy it to a degree. But I am genuinely stumped and a bit disturbed by how he decided to make Calypso a sweet, sad, lonely "good person". Sure, she's sad and lonely but she is NOT sweet. To me, she reads off as cruel to Leo but even then, why tf does he write her as a good person or someone we should be rooting for?
Her only big myth is basically in the Odyssey where she imprisons and rapes Odysseus for 7 years. In mythology, others do that too but these immortals ALSO have other myths that define them. This one myth is practically her ONLY ONE!
At night he slept beside her in the hollow cave, as he was forced to do—not of his own free will, though she was keen enough. But in the daylight hours he’d sit down on the rocks along the beach, his heart straining with tears and groans and sorrow, as he gazed, through his tears, over the restless sea
(Ian Johnston, Book 5)
Another translation of the same passage by E.V. Rieu
At nights, it is true, he had to sleep with her under the roof of the cavern, cold lover with an ardent dame. But the days found him sitting on the rocks or sands, torturing himself with tears and groans and heartache, and looking out with streaming eyes across the watery wilderness.
Rick, dude, how did you read the Odyssey and see her as someone to sympathize with? Plenty of lonely people are out there and they don't do what Calypso fucking did!
It kind of freaks me out that Percy was near this woman as she's over a thousand years old and he's 14 at this point. Even if it WAS for a short amount of time. And pairing her with Leo? These kids should not be anywhere NEAR her!
idk, I doubt he'll fix this in the show but I can hope :')
#I hate her so much.#calypso#anti calypso#anti caleo#rick riordan critical#idk I still care about this series but there were...CHOICES#if the show tries to be like Miller's Circe when she eventually shows up I'll throw a FIT. She turned Percy into a guinea pig#simply for funsies as he's a dude. that's in character for her!#Mad rambles#shot by odysseus#like I wanna reread the series...but I don't remember certain bits and I know some of them will make me mad :P#If I remember correctly as well. I think he portrayed Helen in a 'ditzy' light I think. I think she was in one of Piper's dreams???#As Helen was another person gifted with Charmspeak if I remember correctly???#essay

you know when you experienced something so traumatizing or grieved too hard your brain sort of temporarily locked that memory to protect you from the pain? i think that's what's been happening to me after deadpool 2 bc tell me why every time i rewatch that movie, i always forget how painful these scenes are?
they always leave me sobbing and totally wrecked but with each rewatch i'd just... forget they would eventually happen and i'd eventually get hurt??
#i love poolverine but wade x vanessa will always have a special place in my heart#they're it for me#but then again as much as i'd love them to get back together i also think they shouldn't#and this is my personal opinion#bc just like logan whose past shaped him into the man who saved the multiverse#i think vanessa played that role in wade's current life#and i can see why wade said he did it all for her. but if marvel makes her dump dermot to go back to wade that's just 🤕#well i wouldn't like that and i think that'd be a disrespect to her character n story n choice she made#and honestly i won't even bother going to the “well she could've still loved and wanted him back” discussion bc#i do think she was well aware of her decision to leave wade in the end and it must've hurt her terribly too#I MEAN LOOK AT THEM. you can't convince me vanessa wouldn't want to take all of wade's pain if she could#she loved wade just as much. if not more#dp 2 might be my fav dp movie#i love how it focused on wade's struggle to cope and his journey to 'get his heart in the right place'#and no matter how goofy they tried to portray his struggles you can just see the depth and pain behind his actions#but idk maybe that’s just me#deadpool#deadpool 2#wade wilson#vanessa carlysle

“I am here for you”
(Idk why but people don’t appreciate varadha’s side of friendship enough. He literally went against his father’s order and gave away his biggest territory for his friend’s safety. He chose to be rather humiliated, looked down and disgraced by everyone than tell why he did that. That too for over 25 years(dyk how many days that is)and he was only a 10 years old child. When his father asked him if he knew the kadha’s value,of course he did why would not he? but there was something more valuable to him. His only friend. His Bestfriend. How could he measure deva’s value to a simple kadha? He knew what would happen but still he gave it away like it was nothing cus nothing mattered except deva to him. He made his decision. He let his only friend go and he was ready if that was meant to be their last. Even If it meant his friend would be safe and he had to live alone forever. His mother had already passed away, his father dishonored him, his step siblings hated him. He was alone raising his little brother. “A Child raising a Child”. He had to be an adult before he could act his age. He had a lot of people depend upon him at such young age. He couldn’t just let himself get swept away and be carefree. He has responsibilities. If deva is ready kill and bury anyone before they even try to touch a strand of his beloved’s hair(varadha as we say😏), varadha is ready to give away his everything for his loved ones even if it means his life.)
#salaar#varadha rajamannar#prithviraj sukumaran#varadeva#devaratha raisaar#varadha is such an amazing character#his part of friendship is equally strong#idk what path rode to their friendship demise and idk what path will prashanth neel choose#but til now and how much we have seen of him#I just love the character Varadha. both the child actor and prithvi did such a wonderful job portraying the character and his emotions#when prithvi described varadha as a vulnerable character.#I got it. yes he is. the emotions he buried for so long makes him so emotionally unstable and we can see it#his sorrow runs so deep.#his buried emotions has become his nightmares but he still can’t show it all cus he can’t appear weak. he has to look strong#to his enemies and for the ones who depend on him#I want to give him a tight hug😭he is so alone now#varadha made me fall in love with prithvi guys😭best choice for Varadha lmty#I am sobbing now🥲🥲🥲#well I made two of this edit one for varadha and another for deva. Both different tho#karthikeya dev

y’know what’s interesting?
the way almost all of us eighth graders who read the book either didn’t like darry or thought he was the bad guy in the situation. but as you grow up, you realize darry only had pony’s best intentions at heart and the kind of stress he was under would make anyone lash out.
i think it’s interesting. when you’re the same age as ponyboy you see darry in the same light as him. but when you grow up you realize darry wasn’t the bad guy and he was simply trying his best.
#i do have a few choice words with how they portray darry in the musical….#idk just the line at the end where he says dallas “gave up” after he killed himslwf just made darry seem like an absolute asshole#like in the book he told pony he couldn’t stop living but in the musical he said don’t give up like dallas”#i’ll probably make a post about this because i get what they were going for but it was what i call a hindenburg line#because it crashed and burned#the outsiders#ponyboy curtis#darry curtis

forgive the brief jesus chris superstar rant but. there is a very important difference between the pharisees being villains and the pharisees being antagonists. they're technically antagonists because they're actively working against the interests of our protagonist, but i don't believe they should ever be played as villains. they're not evil or bad or wrong. they're terrified just like literally everyone else in the show is, and their actions are completely justified. to me that's the entire point of the musical. it's not about christianity; it's about the impact the roman empire's brutal and violent imperialism had on everyone on all levels. including jesus and judas, but also including the pharisees, and even herod and pilate. when a powerful coloniser forces their presence on innocent people they are the only winners. everyone else suffers, even the puppet kings and high priests who look like they're reaping some sort of benefit from it all. that's roman propaganda. the romans kept native rulers like herod and caiaphas in power to maintain the illusion of provincial autonomy, and keep populations appeased and therefore under control. everyone in the show is acting out of fear of the romans. the one roman character we do see (pilate) is acting out of fear of his own emperor. it makes no sense to cast the pharisees as two dimensional Bad Guys, especially when the same productions that do that usually offer a sympathetic portrayal of pilate. it would be so easy to stage and direct a production in a way that makes it obvious that the pharisees are doing what they're doing because they truly have no choice, and not because they're pure evil and want to kill jesus for the sake of it. it's not only an antisemitic trope but also undermines a really important theme of the musical. if you can see the humanity in the violent roman governor installed forcefully on conquered land then you can afford some humanity for the pharisees too. they are victims of pilate and victims of rome just like everyone else
#THEY ARE NOT ALLIES OF PILATE. they have a common interest yes. ie avoiding punishment from rome#but the pharisees have no choice but to go to pilate. they have no real power. because like i said. they are puppet rulers#i am just tired of seeing the pharisees as villains#IF YOU WANT A VILLAIN (idk why you need to have one i don't think this show is about that) IT SHOULD BE FUCKING PILATE. AND NO ONE ELSE#THE PHARISEES ARE NOT VILLAINS. THEY ARE NOT EVIL. THEY ARE VICTIMS.#i am tired of seeing them costumed or directed in a way that makes them stereotypical Bad Guys#the 2k version of jcs is my favourite but i HATE how it portrays the pharisees at times especially annas#when annas pushes judas to the floor for literally no reason it's like. you are going out of your way to make these guys seem evil#sucks because the actor from 2k is the best annas i've ever seen in terms of presence and voice#and the actor who plays caiaphas in that film does a really good job at showing fear instead of pure anger and evil#but it's generally all still done in a way that makes the priests seem evil. in my opinion#and yes i called pilate violent. he's not in A Lot of productions but. the real pilate was an extremely brutal governor#and there's a very good reason for portraying him as such. especially when you consider the themes i mentioned here#jesus christ superstar#jcs#ask to tag

My biggest issue in Epic the Musical is Odysseus, actually. In this essay, I will....
#good god I hate his (lack of) character arc#if you want me to believe he is a monster then he gotta be consistently!!!! monstrous!!!#but no he is constantly allowed to be a poor pissbaby because portraying him as anything *gasp* morally dubious is bad#idk i don't know anything about the og myths but to me Epic's Odysseus bounces around between moods far too fast but he is always allowed t#reset back into what he has been from the start#none of his angst feels earned at any point because basically all the “bad choices” he's been put into have been outside of his control#except maiming the sirens and sacrificing people to scylla#which feel so out of character at that point to me because the next song he's whining to Zeus to not make him choose between him and his me#bitch if you were willing to sacrifice them two seconds ago why not now#why not have odysseus be the one to suggest sacrificing his men instead of him to show how far he is actually willing to go#but noooo his hand needs to be forced because???#at that point in the musical I feel like he should've been far more cruel so the Ithaca saga will actually feel like something#gives this man some agency to be a fucked up guy by himself. please.#it would've made the poseidon fight even more satisfying. he's capable because he has grown so cold. but no#idk maybe I'm missing the point but ugh#I saw a great comment unrelated to this that was like#“if you aren't comfortable with dark implications in your stories then don't write dark stories”#which I feel like applies here so well#epic the musical critical

stuck in an endless cycle of being annoyed about some of the stuff that was in the trailer and then i see how excited other people are and start thinking "well maybe some of the stuff that upset me could go in a different direction than im expecting. and there was still some cool stuff in there. maybe im overreacting or jumping to conclusions" and then i remember what exactly i was annoyed about and start thinking maybe i was right the first time and then i just kind of feel sad thinking about how excited i was over the first two movies compared to how ive been feeling about the more recent movieverse content and then i get frustrated with how it feels like im not allowed to express these feelings and opinions with how defensive some movie fans get and dismiss all criticism as needless hate regardless of who its coming from or what theyre saying and then i go Okay im normal now . until im reminded of the movie again
#i feel like i should probably stop thinking about the movie but its kinda hard not to wiht how everywhere it is right now lol#it doesnt help that a lot of the stuff that stuck out as not so great to me are things casual sonic fans and the average movie watchers#or people who only like the movies and not the games probably wouldnt care about . so obviously thyere gonna be glossed over a lot#and a lot of people will think anyone whos concerned about those things is just being nitpicky and sonic fans hate everything etc#but honestly my initial anger over some parts has died down a lot im just feeling more . empty i guess. than anything#and also with the whole ''things could go in a different direction than you expect'' thing. yeah thats true. that could happen#but a lot of the stuff i didnt particularly like is just stuff that im inherently not a fan of . like sonic working with gun#its just such a weird writing choice even if it turns out they betray him or are lying to him or something#and also some of the more optimistic takes im seeing are just . idk guys.#i dont think that actor who is already confirmed to be playing a human is secretly voicing rouge#i dont think gun is gonna be portrayed as evil for killing maria when we already know gun was formed AFTER maria died in this universe#sorry .#and this isnt even getting into issues with some of the people involved with the movie

Ok but this is incorrect bc the depths of her depravity come through in who she is or isn’t targeting. They didn’t TARGET civilians but they saw the deaths and injuries of civilians as a necessary sacrifice if they gave a fuck at all; and that’s important! This is like. One of my issues with arcane where zaunites don’t get the same care put into them as piltover does. Like when piltover is impacted by smth it’s still shots of hurt children and close ups of them crying and running and even background enforcers get set ups (like the pacifist shit or whatever) that pay off in some way but the same is never done for background zaunites unless they’re born to die to make a main character sad. even those like the firelights that should matter to the plot more by nature of it being a class struggle and even above shit about the choices ppl make. It’s not enough that she’s just framed as bad so the details don’t matter; they do matter bc it’s showing just how far they went. For a show that put effort into showing the sound of someone licking their lips and accurately using a made up language from a stupid game; I think whether civilians got caught in the crossfire or not DOES matter and the opening sequence where she uses the gas where they say “the people of zaun deserve to breath” as she’s depriving them of that say otherwise. Like media literacy 101 is not saying death and pain is meaningless actually
#this is also clusterfucky#but to summarize my issue#if the point of arcane is to be realistic why do you get mad when we point it out#if that’s what they’re going for and we really had to emotionally brutalize every black character and leave them sad and alone whilst#propping up their white counterparts#what pisses you off sm about us saying that’s what happened and we didn’t like it#like idk for me personally I think the choice to depict realism when it comes to analogies for race but not sexuality#that allows you to conveniently not care for black characters period#i think the intentionality of that choice matters little when we’re just speaking on differences in how they’re treated#like good to know but let’s talk about why half of y’all didn’t clock it if that’s the case#let’s talk about why it’s realism for one group and not another#like Im not saying the class struggle had to be solved in the magic show#Im just saying let’s look at how it was portrayed#like too many ppl think their ‘objectivity’ (it’s not) is what the show is putting out and it’s really not#like for ppl who noticed Maddie smiling in a still frame#you think the screen time of Cassandra’s funeral vs any individual firelight pre jinxer era means nothing?#ong?#this is barely relevant to the post it’s just my opinions now#i couldn’t tell you how I feel about the post above#i mean i Might if I feel like it but idc rn

someone in the comments of the new iwtv teaser said "Sam is not beating the allegations of being possessed by Lestat" and like. have you heard of a thing called "acting"
#im not gonna reply to the comment itself bc that way madness lies but i AM gonna bitch about it here#ik its like a joke or whatever but comments like that just rub me the wrong way#it would be one thing if it were a comment on a video of him at an interview or whatever *as himself* and was acting lestat-ish#but its literally a video of him playing lestat!#he is not being possessed by a fictional character he is PLAYING said character because he is an ACTOR because that is his JOB#which he is quite good at!#even if its meant as a compliment to his acting it still bothers me#because it ignores the hard work that goes into portraying a character like that and the deliberate choices that are made by the actor#not to mention the rest of the crew/creative team#also if i was playing a character like lestat and someone said i was “possessed” by them i might be kinda peeved#bc lestat is like. not a good dude.#i wouldnt want to be compared to him#id want to be able to take that character off at the end of the day#tbh its just skirting a little too close to treating actors as fictional characters instead of actual people which i am not a huge fan of#idk its probably not even that deep but it hit a nerve and im feeling bitchy today#iwtv#the vampire lestat#sam reid

i don't think i can be normal about Sunday guys
#hsr#hsr spoilers#i haven't even FINISHED it yet but his ideology is so warped. i cheered when i thought Gallagher had killed him for real#im not upset he's alive though i do think it's a bit of a cop-out . but. ouhghhhh something is so wrong with his mind (/positive.)#it's successfully looped back around to loving his character though. when there's a fucked up guy in a story i either#1) get very hostile towards them because i feel like they aren't being portrayed enough like the villain i see them as#or 2) become Obsessed with them forever because they are just so fucking . Wrong. like .#ayato genshin impact falls into both of these categories simultaneously like a fucking electron.#but sunday. he has wholeheartedly landed himself in the second category. i need to dissect him and maybe like. idk. give him a cake (?)??#Come Experience The Joys. Idiot. and also maybe listen to your sister.#honestly i REALLY like robin i think she's super super great and has good ideas#i really really love the like. the.#the contrast between his like. his horrible pessimistic nihilistic ideology. and robins optimistic harmonious one.#like robin seems to kind of... not be able to understand that sometimes nihilism is the only way to survive and that it's a balance#survival is good but hard to break out of... you need to survive enough to be ABLE to live. she seems to idealize living in opposition to it#whereas sunday is like. there are people who can ONLY survive. sometimes living isn't an option because the world is cruel and we don't all#get that choice. sometimes surviving is all you can do. why not embrace that? why not build a place where people can postpone death?#if fulfillment isn't possible... then why not accept placation even if it is a poison to the soul? surely joyful prison is better than death#if all that awaits in the world is suffering then why not let the bird live the rest of its days in its cage... even if it is unfulfilling?#HE'S SO . RHGHHGHGHFHGHHVGJF#he feels like he's on the brink of a misanthropic suicidal breakdown to me. someone fucking help him (but not really)#(i don't think anyone should be subjected to his brain. but i would like to see him get better. actually i think robin is trying for sure)#anyway. very curious how this quest is going to end. i want to rip him limb from limb and then stitch him back together again after#my posts

Sans: i 'befriended' your mom last night
Sans, accompanying Toriel to her first Pride Parade, both decked out in dozens and dozens of aro flags, approximately twelve seconds before guiding Kris to a car seat with a whoopie cushion: i literally told you i befriended her, kid. what'd you think i meant? wow. good to know you think so lowly of my extremely mature sense of humor. i'm hurt, kiddo. i'm actually in pain. i really thought we had something.
#s.oriel has some great content but that specific line is the bane of my existence#especially when i headcanon them both as extremely aro#i like how undertale's ending doesn't imply that her being single is a source of depression or stress when she's this old#nor does it imply she's alone because she's undesirable#both asgore and alphys seem pretty attracted to her#she's just...not interested. being single is her choice and it's portrayed a valid one#idk. where's all my aro toriel content#or toriel divorced from the context of being a wife/girlfriend/mother just in general#undertale salt#i guess

Every time this dude is put in a situation where I think he's about to explode in a rainbow of bitterness and entitlement, he just doesn't, and it's very bizarre
Of course he's also the pov character and I don't know that I'd call him a reliable narrator so he could be omitting the parts where he made himself out to be a dick, but still
#mononoke#mononoke shu#mononoke book#adventures in japanese#he's making a really stupid choice here but even still it's also sweet in a way oh my god#like seriously i went into this story expecting some equivalent to incel rage and it just hasn't come to that at this point#hes pretty graceful about people saying he's not very good all things considered#like hell beg a little bit but like you know the type im talking about right?#the 'i didn't want to date you anyway you ugly bitch' type of entitled rejection rage except for books instead of women#its just not there and its mind-boggling#and kind of a breath of fresh air in a way? portraying this sort of insecurity and bitterness without making a villain out of him?#idk it's weird man#i caught my second wind on this story so hopefully ill be done with it early next week at the latest#ive only got about three days worth of work left on the translating front and then just putting it together in a doc
