bothers me in trc fandom when people refer to “ronan’s suicide attempt” because it was pretty importantly NOT a suicide attempt. gansey, noah, adam, they all assumed it was, which is why gansey freaks out when ronan goes missing overnight at the beginning of trb, but it is not. it was a dream creature he brought back that had clawed him up.

i’m sure you could argue that that’s just an indirect suicide attempt, ronan’s subconscious, etc (opal tells him the night horrors are him), but i don’t see it that way. ronan is angry and grieving and violent in the wake of niall’s death. the night horrors, to my knowledge, don’t target ronan so much as they target any soft, living thing they can destroy. we don’t see this scene happen. we don’t see the day or the nightmare that comes before. we just have ronan’s word, and ronan says it wasn’t a suicide attempt, so it wasn’t.

and we can talk in circles then about whether ronan is suicidal actually—personally i think he has a sort of reckless disregard for his own life (see: drag racing, dream drugs) and has internalized a lot of the ideas about him being a “bad kid,” but i don’t think he’s actively suicidal. and that’s important to me. it’s important that ronan doesn’t actually want to die. i think he’s struggling to see the point of what everyone wants him to do (school), and struggling to envision a future for himself.

if ANYTHING was going to make ronan suicidal, truly, it should have been the dreamer trilogy. he’s isolated from all of his loved ones, literally starts dying if he’s not careful with the ley lines, and also the world is ending. we can see his same thought patterns repeating (“you’re always the car crash, ronan”) and we see him struggling with reality and identity (every conversation with bryde, who remember is part of ronan’s psyche, and also the looping dream with the mirror). and he’s not suicidal in the dreamer trilogy.

we talk a lot in this fandom about “gansey kind of wanted to live.” i think we should talk about how, despite everything, so did ronan.

Because one of the many reasons I really do not draw much is I am aphantasmic and do not and cannot visualize so let me tell you every single aspect of this except the shirt just. Happened. What are poses. What are limbs. Bodies exist but WHY.

As Revenelan realized the awkwardness of the situation, a sudden warmth crept up her cheeks, pinched pink by a twinge of embarrassment. She held a hand up, as if to disspell the Inquisitor's apology, and feverently shook her head.

"No, no, it was I that was in error," Revenelan winced, the corners of her lips curling into an apologetic frown. "Ir abelas, lethallin. I overstepped by making an assumption about your faith. I will do better to be less presumptuous in the future."

As she spoke, a murky discomfort gnawed at her conscience – the tight stretch of adjusting to unfamiliarity as Revenelan grappled with how quickly her world had opened up since committing herself to the Inquisition. On one hand, she was glad to to see so many of the Elvhen in one place, and yet to her own dismay, a great number seemed to have turned away from the light of the Creators. While she had known that not all Elvhen lived as the Dalish did, it was still a grounding moment for Revenelan to see exactly how far her people have strayed from their true selves.

That was the inception of Revenelan's mistake. It was the Inquisitor's vallaslin that had strengthened her resolve to join the Inquisition's efforts; surely, her kin would understand the plight of Clan Aravun's need for protection in such troubling times, and Revenelan would be all too happy to support one of her own. The Inquisitor, to her, was a sign from the Creators, a confirmation of Revenelan's efforts to pull her clan from the shadows and into the world at large – and yet it appeared that Sontna, too, tread a different path than most Dalish.

"If you don't mind me asking," Revenelan searched Sontna's golden eyes with interest, her natural curiosity getting the better of her. "Which clan is it that you come from, if any at all?"

I went with the latter because chaos also I went with headcanons as I couldn't figure out how to make this into a full fledged fic.

Axolotl's tend to like cool temperatures so Vox's area is perfect for you! Bro has a ton of technology that needs to be kept cool so it doesn't overheat, the lighting is a little bit of a problem.

Vark's tank has a ton of space for you to swim in! And the two of you happen to get on swimmingly so that was a bonus.

Now Axolotl's in captivity, tend to eat trout and salmon pellets, frozen or live bloodworms, earthworms, and waxworms, however since you are a sinner and you'd rather not eat that, you straight up rob the Vee's kitchen.

Velvette gets PISSED when she goes to eat her leftovers and it's gone.

I headcanon that Vox has a little bit of a sweet tooth, so dude has a sweet treat in the refrigerator and it's GONE when he goes to eat it.

You don't trust Valentino's food because it could be drugged, it ends up in the trash.

You are small and squishy, Vark likes to gently chew on you like a chew toy, you have regenerative abilities so it's totally fine! Probably.

Now When Vox finally noticed you, it's almost a year or so later, He's going to feed Vark and you're just chillin' on his back.

I imagine you look like one of these depending on which he's SO dumbfounded on how he didn't realize you were there.

Sidenote, I find Axolotl's both cute and horrifying, like I can see them through a tank and think it's adorable but bring them near me without proper protection and I will cry.

He takes you out of the tank and interrogates you,

But no you were just a random sinner who decided to move into the Vee's tower.

1) CHERRY MAGIC (episode 2) IS SO GOOD, I HAVE TO COVER MY MOUTH AND KEEP MY MEEPS FROM BEING TOO LOUD

3) The wonderful @so-much-yet-to-learn and I had a discussion a couple months ago about the stylistic and rumored decisions to not have Kurosawa and Adachi (Machida Keita and Akaso Eiji) kiss in the Japanese Cherry Magic adaptation. The rumors (only seen online and not at all confirmed with primary sources) were that Machida's and Adachi's agencies were not supportive of the two having an on-screen smooch. We also considered the public vs. private taboos of public displays of affection in Japanese society and art, which differ from those in other Asian countries (like Thailand).

It's not known if the two actors felt differently about not kissing. At least Machida's agency, Gekidan Exile/Exile Tribe, has provided quite the number of actors in other Japanese BLs who have acted out many more deeds on screen, from Candy Color Paradox to Tokyo in April Is..., and more.

But I think part of the campy gloriousness of the Japanese Cherry Magic adaptation was, in fact, the lack of kissing, and the sensual acting around the indication of that kissing, from Kurosawa's eagerness and his constant struggle to control his emotions, to Adachi's discomfort-to-acceptance-and-happiness journey. There was tremendous communication in their body and verbal language that got them to their happy ending in the series, and to not have the actual kiss was, for me, dramatically satisfying for how that decision was supported through the excellent acting and the painstaking details of the show.

So, for so many of us, as we learned that TayNew would take up this mantle in Thailand last year, we were like -- alright, NOW we are going to get the kisses, right?

And at least for now, we haven't, which makes me wonder a bit. We saw Kurosawa's lips touch Adachi's forehead in Japan,

and Karan's lips were hidden by Achi's fluffy bangs in Thailand.

Does New need some texturizing, or was this on purpose? (I'm CACKLING, poor Tay, look at that hair in his FACE, omg.)

If this was a stylistic nod to Japan? Then... well done, because at least I noticed it, and kinda loved it. We know (WE KNOWWWW, heh heh, thank you, Kiss Me Again and Dark Blue Kiss) what TayNew are capable of, and I just loved this little moment of subtlety here in Cherry Magic, because we don't actually know what we're going to get later this series.

Because I am a fucking simp for all things Cherry Magic, I also noted the slight changes in how Karan approached Achi on the rooftop later that night, as compared to Kurodachi. Honestly, I am SO ENJOYING these different approaches, and only note these simply by way of how I'm loving Machida's acting versus that of Tay.

Kurosawa on the rooftop was a ball of NERVES, man.

Whereas it almost seemed like Tay's Karan was silently joyful, with smiles playing at the edges of his lips, to be so close to Achi and having this conversation about the dinner game.

These are NOT the greatest screenshots, but if I could gif, I would try to capture how the corner's of Tay's mouth in that last screenshot just uplifted slightly. This wasn't a moment of shock and nerves; this was a moment of OMG OMG OMG EEEEEE THIS IS MY TIMEEEEE.

(EDITING TO ADD: I’m such a dunce! I should have known the gif makers were already on this — and the gorgeous deity @liyazaki captured Tay’s mouf perfectly. That giddiness in the last gif!)

And in their acting? I love BOTH APPROACHES so much. Because both approaches are well within the emotional range of the moment that we're experiencing with them.

We're departing from the Japanese dorama next week in content, and I cannot wait to see where we go. GMMTV gave us some holiday gifts in Last Twilight and Cherry Magic airing on Fridays and Saturdays, no?
