Pro tip. And a neutral observation believe it or not.
If you’re engaging with a story constructed on a more mythical level. And you have to twist a character into something more mundane to justify hating them or liking them. You don’t hate or like the character. You just don’t know how to engage with them as-written and you’re projecting something familiar to avoid the discomfort.
#genre literacy#not media literacy btw#two different skill sets#over-identification is the death of reading comprehension#neutral observation btw#this is a thing the brain does automatically#fills in gaps in experience with something familiar

I don’t care if it’s boring I’m 10000% in love with the idea of Vegeta having a quiet happy domestic home life throughout the 7 year gap and as his end game.
He was raised in an intergalactic mafia and by an absolute miracle got out and was granted his life back. Twice. One of the two last men standing when an entire population gets wiped out. Twice (counting the Freeza Force, by the end of ResF).
His father stopped fighting on the front lines once he became king, to watch over his domain. Frieza didn’t personally get involved in battle (not wipeouts, but actual battle) until Namek. Vegeta was always (told he was) intended to take both their places.
Letting him grow into a protector has been such a great arc and imho it would be so beautifully wrapped by letting him finally get to go home and inherit his crown as the guardian of his new planet.
#I think about it so much#And I talk about the foils moving past each other in opposite directions makes me so happy#Goku spent his life home on Earth and could spend the rest of it having adventures all over the universe.#Vegeta spent his life adventuring all over the universe and could spend the rest of it home on Earth.#Let Broly come to earth too I want to see him be besties with gohan I want to see him be bESTIES WITH PAN#dbtag#silly hours#I just love that Geets wanted so much to be home with his new baby and was immediately robbed of his peace bc Freeza was resurrected agAIN#And every day I think about how he told Whis the only reason he was still training was because Freeza was alive again#And I just think!!! This man deserves to retire and be the domestic dad he so clearly loves being!!!#That’s my hc anyway. Especially now that he KNOWS he can close whatever gap Goku puts between them in terms of skill#I still think Bulma was annoyed with him training all the time during the gap was because she figured it was peacetime and didn’t understan#Until Buu happened and then she definitely understood why he trains during peacetime— I hc she built the island villa like a year after Buu

“I’m so normal”, I say as I check the xzero and zerox tags for the 5th time today while listening to mp3s of every megaman vocal track and wearing my megaman belt with my “I hid myself while I repaired myself” shirt
#I just remembered that my axl model kit arrives next week (yippee!!) and soon all three of the gang will be together#i actually have two x’s because my parents couldn’t find the standard blue version (how???) but found the x3 hyperchip edition somehow#but later I got my hands on a blue x (the shiny one of courseee) and immediately staged silly photos with the two of em and zero#curious to see how my model kit skills improve with axl haha - each kit is less rough than the last#so that basically means poor zero has five hundred gaps on him but my blue x is virtually flawless lmao#ANYWAYS tag time#idiot rambles#megaman#megaman x#xzero#zerox#mmx#mega man x#mega man#I’m obsessed with that shirt btw it was only $10 on Etsy and yet I love it sm

#CRAZYYY. the insinuation of whatever imaginary mental gap john believes exists between sam vs dean and john is#being represented by sam's loneliness (sully as a symbol) which spills over into john's (and dean's) infantilisation and exclusion of sam#which culminates in the lack of information he grants to sam + sam's exclusion from the familial dynamic#(which is also ultimately his inclusion) AS WELL AS#the previously mentioned inclusion of sam within trainings#like what fucking nine year old can shoot a gun and run two miles!! but is excluded from the activities#these skills are introduced to be cultivated for#liminal space moment. which is where sully's existence as an aid comes in#but also the subtextual connection between this + sam's season seven arc. “well i never had an imaginary friend” vs#“now onto our other big problem. how're you doin'? and do not say okay.”#also thinking about this + sully dealing with kid sam's 'there's something inherently wrong with me' thoughts#while sam and dean are actively attempting to negotiate sam's inclusion in his family#like they just bounce off of each other. sam has sully because of his exclusion + those feelings of inherent wrongness#but he continues to be excluded because of sully's existence as an aid for his exclusion#11.08#adflatus

because I love to cook the youtube algorithm pushes me a lot of food porn videos which I guess are adjacent. But over time, something about them feels cruel to me. The influencers are living in an alternate universe. 'Surf n' turf fried rice?' 40 lbs of it for a tailgate?
I live in the USA, and the absolute cheapest online price for snow crab legs I could find was $10 a lb and I have no idea if the product's any good quality. As of November 2024, the wholesale prices before markup were over $8 a lb. I haven't seen them in my grocery store for under $14 a lb. Online, 10 lb cases of crab like he's carrying there go for almost always over $100. Sometimes over $200. There was a 2018-2019 population collapse due to a marine heatwave that knocked out over 10 billion crabs.
The stated price of a beef tenderloin varies wildly depending on where I look. I can find a USDA report that states that the retail cost of beef tenderloin in my area in 2024 was around $8-$11 per lb but I have NEVER seen it for under $15 a lb on sale in the store, at least recently. Grass-fed beef costs a lot more. Maybe I am not looking hard enough, and there ARE definitely ways to get meat cheaper, like buying a cow share. But like... do you get what I am saying? That meat fried rice guy is holding is potentially over $100 by itself. and why the hell do you need tenderloin to make fried rice, anyway? It's one of the more expensive cow parts, it's filet mignon.
I kind of find it fun to watch videos where a butcher cuts up wagyu beef because it's a luxury that I can't justify spending on myself. But after a certain point this stuff stops feeling like fantasy, and begins feeling cruel. Maybe this guy has special connections where he can get that much crab for below wholesale prices, or has special deals with farmers to get a $60 whole tenderloin when he wants. But its more likely he's just rich, or is projecting the image of being rich using investor or sponsorship money.
The USA has leadership right now that dismantled any agency that can control bird flu and is blaming egg prices on its enemies. Normal people will be watching their grocery bills further skyrocket due to isolationist tariffs, rent, utilities, and medical prices take more out of their food budgets than ever before. And it would not surprise me if the plan to make up the difference after the feds round up low-wage immigrant workers is to send them right back to work but like, even more literally enslaved.
And youtube wants me to see the altreality where some random guy brings the economic collapse of largely indigenous alaskan fishing communities, and cubed filet mignon, to a tailgate??? what 'let them eat cake' bs is this???
#food#influencer culture#add in that most people dont have time and there is a skills gap in cooking food where I live#and you have these videos tantalizing people who cannot access the cheapest way to feed themselves with the most expensive BS#like at what point do people just start hunting who makes these videos with Spears

#24.1 Grace vs Endorsi
"Five minutes. Start!" Dan cheered as he dropped a wrinkled paper.
The moment it touched the floor, a flurry of wind swept through the training ground as Endorsi narrowed the distance between them.
Grace blocked her kick with his shinsu-reinforced arm while manipulating the wave to lessen the impact.
That seemed to have taken Endorsi by surprise, so he took that chance to grab her leg and slam her to the floor with controlled strength.
If it had been the Endorsi that he knew, she would use her needle to break free from his grip and perform a few backflips so that she wouldn't hit the ground. However, this Endorsi hadn't mastered that reflex yet.
She did, however, roll sideways and aim to tackle his foot right after. Grace jumped and summoned his wings out of reflex, then let the wings disperse away. He thought that keeping the spar close-combat would be the best choice to bring out the best of her abilities.
Endorsi twisted and aimed another kick. At the same time, he felt a small movement from behind him. He moved slightly to dodge and a needle flew past his arm.
Endorsi tsked, but she was smirking. "To think that you were able to dodge that. Impressive."
"Hm? What do you mean?" Grace pretended to be confused, but his face must've shown the truth.
Endorsi sneered and flung another kick. "So that's how you're going to play it."
They proceeded to trade blow after blow, fiercer and faster, displaying their best close-combat skills. Dan and Gyetang cheered for Endorsi everytime she went on the offensive.
Given enough time, he was sure Endorsi could figure something out on her own to improve her skills. Currently she just needed some battle experience; the reflex and agility, the skill to read and predict.
Grace refrained from using bangs to attack her directly, but he did use them to block her needles, with a maximum of two bangs at a time. If it weren't for the barrier surrounding the training area, their floating ship would've had some major dents and cracks from the blows.
An alarm rang, followed by "Time's up!" from Dan as he excitedly waved and crossed his arms above his head.
Grace jumped out of Endorsi’s attack range to stop their spar.
When Endorsi finally relaxed her stance, Grace smiled and bowed at her. "It was a good fight, thank you."
Endorsi took a moment to reply, not really returning the sentiment. "I guess."
Grace knew he had hurt Endorsi's pride with that fight, but he wouldn't have done it any differently were he given the chance.

they also broke everyones tastebuds 😭 I would cry on the spot, there needs to be reparation
Lmaoooo
Don't worry, E made sure to ban them from any cooking the moment the food touched their tastebuds. It was an affront to their palate. They've never felt so insulted.

i feel like in the absence of noted goons kyle and givani there's a fun dichotomy with current top goons in the pecking order luke kunin/barclay goodrow (the usual guys you expect to see fighting, puts up an ok showing in them more often than not) on one hand and nico sturm at the other (says he will do it if he feels like he has to. hard to tell but it seems like he hypes himself up with it. dear god someone get him out of there before he hurts himself)
somewhere in the mix is henry (wants to start fighting. (diversify his investment portfolio.) turning hopeful eyes upon luke for guidance) and klim (wants to escape the narrative and not fight so much. still feels obliged to step up)
having escaped the narrative is nikita okhotiuk who, like klim, wanted to not be just a goon after a reputation established from some big hits and being a Big Boy, but he unfortunately also donate the puck to the opposition too many times so gmmg banished him to calgary for a 5th round pick. and then he signed a sanctions-violating contract with cska moscow and skedaddled
#sharks lb#hockey tag#you could probably make like a two axis graph of skill vs enthusiasm re:clownery#not a delly connoisseur enough to tell what the vibes are here.... i trust interested parties can fill in the gaps here#anyways these sharks are getting outshot at a ratio of 3:1 i would like to see these mfers work on that instead of the goonery pls lol

Dreaming Spanish
Because I talk about it a lot, I'm going to link Dreaming Spanish's site, their youtube channel, and the subreddit r/dreamingspanish. (And fyi Dreaming Spanish site is free to use and tracks which videos you complete - the premium version just has more lessons, the youtube is free and has the same free lessons as the website, and the subreddit is quite welcoming to people who study using DS lessons in addition to whatever else they're using - I've found them to be one of the most friendly and least gatekeeping language learning subreddits I've visited so far).
So here's my thoughts narrowed down to their most basic: I think the type of lessons Dreaming Spanish makes - which are designed to help a learner understand what's being said with visuals for context - are a wonderful way to learn a language for people who enjoy learning things by doing them, and guessing from context. If you were the kind of kid who learned new words by reading books and fanfiction, from watching shows/movies with your parents, playing video games with your older siblings and then trying to play them without your sibling around, and guessing what the new words meant? Then you're the kind of person who will likely enjoy this type of lesson. I love learning from context. I love learning by doing. I like to learn something by doing it with someone - and learning by trying to do the thing, to understand how it's done AS I'm doing it. Learning by simply listening to the language being spoken, and by using the surrounding context of visuals/physical gestures/words you know to figure out what the rest of it means? My favorite way to learn. Oh sure, I also like reading explanations of how things work, but I prefer to learn by doing if that's an option. If you're also the kind of learner who enjoys learning to understand a language BY immediately listening to that language and trying to understand? Comprehensible Input type lessons are excellent. (And will be much EASIER than just trying to make yourself watch a show or read a novel in the language with zero aids to help you). If you're the kind of learner who hates ambiguity, who hates trying to figure things out from context and prefers to have a task explained before trying it? If you're the kind of kid who looked up most unknown words in a dictionary or into google growing up? Then Comprehensible Input type lessons are probably NOT going to be enjoyable for you. And that's fine, there's many other types of lessons that may suit your preferences more.
*A side note, that if you do enjoy comprehensible input type lessons, this wiki has links to those kinds of lessons in many languages: comprehensibleinputwiki.org (And the old Nature Method textbooks one can find on archive.org, and Ayan Academy on youtube, also teach using comprehensible input)
I think the Dreaming Spanish roadmap is also quite applicable to many language learners - how many hours it recommends to study, and the kind of skills you can expect to be capable of, at those amounts of study hours. Yes, it's a rough guide, it's not perfect. Yes, the guide is more applicable to you if you're studying with Comprehensible Input lessons and/or listening to and reading stuff you understand the main idea of, as your main study activities. But I find the level hours recommended matches up fairly well with estimates like FSI has, and ALG courses mention. People who study Dreaming Spanish the way the lessons are instructed to be used ('purists') and people who study Dreaming Spanish lessons in addition to other methods (duolingo, formal classes, word-translation tools, graded readers, anki, tutors who explain with translations, textbooks, grammar guides etc.) all report on r/dreamingspanish experiences that roughly align with the study hour level milestones expected by Dreaming Spanish's roadmap. So even if you're not studying with comprehensible input type lessons, or not exclusively studying with those kinds of lessons, I find the roadmap's suggestions for 'study hours to reach X skills' useful to a degree. Again, I want to repeat: I do not think you need to use Dreaming Spanish's lessons (or any comprehensible input lessons) as your only method of study, I think reaching milestones in terms of skills can be reached in a variety of study methods, and using other methods won't change your progress that much. I think comprehensible input type lessons can be completely ignored if they're not you're cup of tea, and the Dreaming Spanish roadmap might still be roughly useful for you to gauge how many more hours to study to be able to do X.
#dreaming spanish#ds#comprehensible input#comprehensible input lessons#reference#resources#comprehensible input resources#comprehensible input wiki#wiki#i've been into comprehensible input type lessons ever since I found the French by The Nature Method book#which is old and is not perfect lol but it did fill in my skill gaps for french reading and taught me enough to read french novels and#anything else i want in french#and that made me determine YES i do learn immensely well by DOING and by learning through context#its just there arent nearly as many lessons and textbooks designed for learning through comprehensible input as i WISH there were#i love Dreaming Spanish in terms of the lessons they offer and sheer amount of hours of lessons. and i WISH equivalent resources existed fo#all languages#there's some amazing resources listed on the comprehensibleinputwiki#article

not sure what the hypothesis is and idk what it’s like for kids these days but just weighing in if you grew up using macs in the 00s your tech problem solving skills got honed bc nothing on planet earth was compatible with your computer. so you had to spend hours researching and figuring out the sketchiest shit recommended by guys on niche forums all so you could play some stupid game your friends were playing on the worst emulator ever
#what problem solving skills do you develop when everything is designed for your device#p#i imagine the gap is much less of a problem these days but like across the board#user friendliness has increased dramatically and everything is more limited
