I have very few followers here on IG, but on facebook i have around 26k, which means that when I state my opinions there, it can snowball to the millions from time to time. A few days ago, it did again, which triggered furious backlash from those who don't agree with the racial undertones of furgeson, and truly hate anyone who does. The top two images are some samples of the dozens of notes i get when these things go viral - hatred, fear, misunderstanding and a lack of dialogue. The wide image below those articulates the symptom of both "i dont like what you think, please change it" and the inherent privilege that is the barrier of dialogue still to be overcome. And below that, the facebook stats. 10,265 shares, and 1,604 comments, mostly of violent and hateful disagreement, short-sighted lashing out and complete misunderstanding. What is important to see, though, when people are yelling, are the 91,185 people who clicked LIKE, and over 10k who promoted. That is a massive majority, and while often times the hate is louder, the solidarity is far greater. And so i respond with humor, the only thing that silly hatred should be met with. #furgeson #mikebrown #speakup #politics
