so i've got three fics that are in what i call "long outline" stage, where a couple chapters are written and the rest is all/mostly plotted out. when i'm done with curtain call i'll probably wait a month or so and then start posting one of them but i Cannot Decide which one to start with. i want to write all of these at some point but i need a Starting Point. please advise. i have decision fatigue

the 20 years later fic is so messy i can't overstate it. i mean that in a good way. very popcorn drama. siffrin and loop haven't seen each other in 20 years but they need to figure out who in the family is harboring a secret regret that's trapping them in a new loop. everyone's over their problems from canon but i give them all NEW problems like osteoporosis and work-life imbalances. bonnie's the only one who ever went to real therapy in two decades and it Shows

the isabeau timeloop fic is probably the most angst out of the three of these??? but it's not a walking sadfest i know how to balance the vibes. it's not Primarily a romance fic but let's face it gamers. this is an isabeau pov. it's like 40% gay longing and you know this. the other 60% tries to solve the question of "would siffrin still be trapped in the loops if they told literally anyone about them at any time" and with the power of miscommunication and self sabotage. i'm pleased to say that answer is YES

the loop one is very prince-and-the-pauper to me. it's set in 1hat in a playthrough of isat that ended on a low loop number. this is both the healthiest and most toxic way for loop to heal postcanon in my heart. siffrin is not here this is NOT about him. he's fine though. it's just that i categorically don't think loop could heal and move on from the loops if siffrin's right over their shoulder being like "hiii do you want to Talk" no you have to TRAP loop into therapy

if you're reading this and going "all of these sound absolutely insane what are you doing" i'm doing My Best <3 all of them have the same general tone as my other fics so if you're like "i like that idea but that sounds too depressing" FEAR NOT. it's the exact same amount of depressing as curtain call and/or inutile

Mammon spicy headcanons:

• I've been converted by Frenchfry and seen the light: Mammon has a huge piss kink.

• He just loves it. Love it when you pee inside him, loves the taste of it, loves how needy he gets when you force him to hold in his pee, and loves how nice it feels to let go.

• If you don't let getting messy, then Mammon will ask you if you're willing to deny him going to the bathroom.

• He loves it when you bring out the pact and command him not to pee - that he's not allowed to pee without your permission.

• The feeling of not being in control really gets to him. The idea that you control so much of him that he can't even go to the bathroom without your permission.

• Probably calls pee something really cringey though like "liquid gold" so even if you're into piss play idk if you would want to play with him...

• When he goes into subspace, his brain completely shuts off. Mammon always feels like he has a million thoughts bouncing around in his brain, but when he falls into subspace, his mind blanks out.

• This freaked him out the first few times he fell.

• He was mainly worried about doing/saying something embarrassing as he doesn't have a filter when he's deep under.

• He's also a bit freaked out about how vulnerable he feels. He's so used to putting up walls and shaking things that bother him off, but when he's in subspace, he feels raw in a way he hasn't felt in forever.

• He wouldn't be able to handle it if you teased him while he was under.

• After a long conversation and many slow and gentle scenes where you ease into subspace, Mammon finds that he absolutely adores it.

• He becomes one of the subbiest guys in the cast who will fall into subspace from one look.

• Is also very much into dumbification, that you're literally fucking him dumb and that's why he can't think.

• That he's just your little fucktoy that's only good for getting fucked.

• Since subspace clears his mind so much, he often comes to you when his Greed gets too strong and have you put him in subspace.

• After this, he either wants to be fucked hard, or he just wants to kneel by your side as you run your fingers through his hair.

• Big into petplay. I cannot overstate how much of a puppy he is.

• It takes him a while, like with most of his kinks, to admit that he's into it.

• Once you break down his walls and prove that you would never judge him for what he likes? Oh. He's such an excited puppy.

• He never sits still when he's pupping, constantly crawling at your kneel or pawing at your thighs.

• Sometimes the two of you sneak away from the Devildoknand retreat to a summer house Mammon has in the Human Realm for a week or two.

• There you two go deep into petplay. Having Mammon eat from bowls, walking him on the beach on a leash, etc.

• The one thing he doesn't like is cages. He prefers to sleep in your bed, either cuddled up in your arms or wrapped around your feet.

Nagito Color Study | Please do not repost, reblogs are welcome though! Brushes & Techniques & a progress pic below the cut

Uhhhh okay, how to explain this one. I was rereading “Logically Lucky” by PinkSweetSmoke and some of the visuals in the earlier chapters really struck me. The way that they write this relationship is pretty dynamic, and I wanted to see if I could use colors to talk about how Hajime and Nagito feel for each other and what they’re going through emotionally? So this is fanart for that fic, directly inspired by that fic based on the established vista(s) and also the style of writing their relationship, but it doesn’t really make sense unless I say all of that lol? But it wouldn’t exist if not for that fic, so I’d feel weird not mentioning it.

Brushes used (Clip Studio, Free):

Main: “ラフペン” from gyuukotu’s “Fill Set (塗りセット)”, content ID 1695210 Fill: Default India Ink brush pen - the rough pen is a little unpredictable, so I used this to flat the image and make sure that there were no gaps Cloud Flat: "荒筆" from gyuutoku's “Fill Set (塗りセット)”, content ID 1695210 Cloud Blender: I downloaded it from the internet instead of the app 2 years ago and cannot find, with certainty, where it came from, since I get rid of everything on my hard drive that's not art every year :( there are lots of good cloud blending brushes out there for free, though, and I typically use the gouache blender Misc. Techniques: Screen Distortion: I used CSP's free cloth texture clipped above the "blue" layers and then liquified it in places for the screen distortion effect Gradient Mapping: I cannot overstate how helpful gradient maps were for minor color corrections, you guys PLEASE try them on a finished piece of your own if you haven't used them yet. Click Layers > New Correction Layer > Gradient Map and then choose from the premade gradients before adding your own so you can see how they worked. I used a few different ones clipped to specific areas w/ lowered opacity & hard/soft light settings where I felt like the color was falling flat and it was SO helpful at giving it just that little bit more depth. Hearts: I've discovered that you can cheat at hair and clothing rendering by just making hearts. Try and see how many you can find lol Color Theory in General: The whole point of this piece, after it stopped being fanart (lol rip), was to be a color study focusing on the contrast between shadow and light and what I could do within the blues & the yellows to make them appear as if they're actually different colors. In the blue section, everything is p much blue, nothing is any other color. In the sunny section, a lot of the stuff is warmer variations of the standard colors, since I wanted it to be more vibrant and didn't feel like I could achieve that if everything was shades of yellow and orange. That being said, I stuck as closely to that as possible. But ANYWAY, juxtaposing the two starkly different color profiles also helps the blues in the blue side read as colors that they aren't, which was part of why I did this study. Sneaky sneaky: I just modified the diner a bit in order to get the colors I wanted, i.e closing the blinds bc I can. As an artist it's important to remember that YOU have full control over every single part of the piece, you just should ideally have a reason to create inaccuracies/ break rules or else it can end up being a bit messy and disorganized & details/ your vision can get lost.

maeve beatrice macguire was born roughly eight years into the timewarp and chaos would be an understatement.

life was going so well karen and sean are still in the trailer on lenny and jenny's driveway. they'd just figured out how to connect the hot water system in their trailer to the solar panels so they didn't have to go inside the main house to shower.

blissful polyamorous life where lenny gets to be with both jenny and sean, and sean gets to be with lenny and karen and karen is still trying to hit on jenny who surely cannot be the only straight person to ever exist in the VDL gang why is life so cruel but everyone is happy and in love and well adjusted to modern era

karen absolutely did not know she was pregnant until she went into labor she didn't even know she could get pregnant between the lack of access to affordable birth control in the 19th century and getting diagnosed with pcos she just assumed she couldn't because she'd never gotten pregnant before??

every single person lost it. there was not a single brain cell to be found in the house just panicked screaming. grimshaw (who helped abigail give birth to jack) was their literal savior. it was too late for hospitals. the macguire genes are too strong this baby was already restless and impatient and coming now

sean malfunctioned so hard trying to process the fact he was a parent that lenny ended up being the first person to hold the baby and love at first sight is real. instantaneously they were All parents and she was going to be the first VDL to not grow up in a broken home. no name no crib but she had two moms and two dads and she was going to be the most spoilt little princess in the world

karen wanted to name her mary-beth because mary-beth stayed with her the longest in canon era and tried to help her even after the gang fell apart but they all agreed this shrieking siren born with orange curls like fire was not going to be a mary-beth so her initials are intentionally mb. they had to go with the most cliche irish girls name starting with m imaginable and then beatrice is actually bessie's full name c:

cannot overstate how strong the macguire genes are her first words might as well have been death to the english. in so many ways she is a copy paste of sean she is loud and the second she could walk she was getting herself into trouble. the whole gang is trying to help but no one knows what to do jack and isaac were both really easy kids who didn't climb on the counter and eat fistfuls of white sugar.

but maeve is so, so loved. she is exactly what their collective child was destined to be. she's energy she's lightning in a bottle she's smart and messy and overconfident and terrifying when she decides she needs to be and they would not change a single hair or freckle about her.

it deserves its own post but the macsummers crew would all have so many emotions being a parent after the childhoods they went through. sean wishing he could ask his da for advice how is it possible to feel so much love for something. karen just feeling lost because she already had so much self-doubt and a really frail sense of self the idea of being a mother would be so terrifying. lenny remembering his father's letter and even though he knows it word for word he wishes he had it with him and could feel the impressions of the pen on paper as if it would hold some answer to how the hell he's meant to be a parent. jenny who was literally found abandoned at the side of the road only now entering the second stage of grief because how dare the people who were meant to care for her abandon her when she would die a million times over to protect this little girl. they all would.

but even with their own shit they are such good parents they will not push their intergenerational trauma onto their baby girl and the lads are girldads to the max: lenny teaching her how to read and going to work in outfits his daughter picked out. sean holding her against his chest watching the secret of kells for the millionth time. karen playing with her baby girl constantly and using her acting skills to do all the voices. jenny braiding her hair and baking cookies with her which she will regret when the sugar demon takes over. whole family tea parties where they all have to play dress up. matching poorly done nail polish

getting her to sleep alone is hell because they all love her so much they want to take her to bed with them even when she's already feisty and independent and wants to sleep in her own room. everyone has a very important role in the nighttime routine and if anyone isn't home at bedtime maeve is not sleeping. jenny has to check for monsters. sean has to carry her to the bathroom and hold her against his hip while they both brush their teeth. karen has to be the one to tuck her in, and lenny has to turn on the nightlight.

she once looked sean dead in the eyes after he turned the nightlight on and turned it back off because lenny has to do it it's his job!!

they must all pay the kiss goodnight tax independently getting multiple kisses from one parent does not nullify the other parents obligation to the republic of maeve

wind down is either lenny reading to her (which has on multiple occasions also put sean to sleep), karen singing or sean telling (child-safe) stories about the VDLs or darragh macguire. sean's stories are maeve's favorite but she gets so excited it takes an extra 20 minutes for her to get to sleep.

her teachers hate her. they want this child medicated because she definitely has adhd. she will rock up and be telling other kids 'i never got to meet my grandpa because the british killed him' and is trying to radicalize her classmates 'they can't catch all of us if none of us go inside at the bell it'll be recess forever!!'

she is the queen of 'my dads can beat up your dad!! my moms can beat up your dad!! i could beat up your dad!!'

'your daughter has been playing cops and robbers' 'that is a normal thing children do we definitely did that at maeve's age' 'yes but she started throwing rocks from the top of the playground while screaming "macguires never surrender" and she used a jump rope to hogtie another child'

anyways since i hurt my wrist ive been reading a lot of DHMIS fic, and as such i have some opinions on alla them! i also have some faves that i am going to reccomend now if any of you are in the mood to read:

First up, this whole series of DHMIS shorts are SO well-written and very bittersweet. They’re both sort of mini stories AND explorations of the positives and negatives of each individual character in the trio + their dynamics with each other. Pretty accurate to the characters, I think, and just straight up, well-written, fun to read. CANNOT OVERSTATE how much I enjoyed these ones. This was my fave of the three, I think about it ALL the time. Though, honestly, you can’t just read ONE and not read the others!

Alright, next is my FAVE FAVE FAAVEE dog/dad duo fic! I love a lot about this fic! I love the in-character dialogue, I love the thoughtful way this fic explores one of my favorite dynamics in the show! It's heartfelt and awkward and jumpy and misshapen- and I think it's a pretty fantastic avenue to take when exploring these characters. There's also a bit of existential terror, for those of you who like that element of the show! Anyways, this fic is literally ALWAYS going to have a rent-free space in my heart.

THIS ONE is a really smart and thought out rearrangement of the first TV season, with a kind of emotional narrative throughline that I gotta say, I was invested in. I always like fanworks that reintegrate lines from canon in different contexts and this is something this fic really understands how to do well. The epilogue made me understand why people will buy and read books telling the exact same event from a different characters POV. tbh i’d buy this if I could.

THIS one is short,sweet and REALLY fucking funny. I literally crack up just thinking about Duck asking Red which of the other two he’d rather be stuck with on a desert island. Comedy of errors with a bittersweet ending that has really stuck around in my head.

This one is less of a singular character exploration and more of a exploration of a hypothetical character dynamic ,imo. And I LOVE the dynamic in it so much! It's compelling, it's messy, it's very push-and-pull, it's like watching two cars almost crash into each other, miss, and then smash violently into poles in opposite sides of the street. I like the OCs in it ( they have a very funny bit going ), I like the fun little fanmade songs, and I like that the relationship between the two main characters is used as a really good platform to see what their insecurities  and their worst traits are up close. I rarely see ship fics that do that! And as someone who is far more interested in the characters themselves than the ship together, I am all in on the carnage.

Just wanted to say thanks for "people from culturally Christian backgrounds" because that seems like a good way to phrase it, and I'm going to try to remember to use it when I'm talking about this sort of thing. (I try to not be a dick to people, when possible, and trauma's messy and complicated.) I'm sorry that some people are being horrible in this whole discussion, and I hope you are doing okay.

I'm doing fine! I really sympathize with most of the people involved in this tbh (except the outright antisemites of course lol) bc like I HAVE seen a lot of reactive and reductive and unkind blanket statements about this by some jumblr people in which they are condescendingly explaining other people's realities to them. Which is my LEAST favorite thing. Jumblr can also be really... umm, dog pile-y in a way that I find frustrating and unproductive. However. I think it's also fairly obvious that most of these reactions are trauma responses, and while that isn't an excuse it is an explanation and provides additional context that I do not feel is irrelevant. For jews we have constantly been told 'well simply stop being jewish' like all the time by everybody, often at gunpoint. So like, when I see nonjewish atheists assert that stuff jews are TELLING you they have gone through "literally never happens" that ALSO REALLY SUCKS. like so so bad. Cannot overstate how much that sucks. Cannot overstate how much it sucks to see ppl I sympathize with deeply wrt their mistrust and hatred of like, organized religious authority, align themselves with people who refer to jewish atheists as "religious nationalists" for refusing to divorce themselves from their ethnic backgrounds/culture/community/traditions. That rhetoric is Just antisemitism in a form that has been used to cause real and violent harm to us in living memory.

Also really alienated by the idea that one must be This Vitriolically Angry About Religion to "count" as an atheist. Like what? That is bonkers. I do not understand why the people making seemingly reasonable posts about "actually here's some interesting writings by people from Islamic cultures or majority Hindu cultures or orthodox jewish cultures outlining the ways that the authorities in these societies have used religion to cause harm on a systemic level" (objectively true) seem to be aligning themselves with people who are doing the SAME THING TO JEWS that they resent being done to them -- e.g. condescendingly explaining to us that our negative experiences with a certain type of atheists Don't Exist or Don't Count or cannot possibly be rooted in antisemitism.

I find the whole thing depressing and troubling. I don't tend to follow jumblr because of the aforementioned issues I have w it but this backlash seems to me to be disproportionate and really hateful in a way that... combines poorly with the increased antisemitic sentiments being lobbed at jews from all ideological sides recently. I wish we could all be more congizent of 1. the role trauma is playing here for everyone and 2. the inherent lack of productive discussion that can be had when two parties are simply Trauma Responsing at each other back and forth endlessly.

Then there's the people who just get super aggressive about people "believing fake things" but I'm not sure there's any help for them. Sure wish that the nonjewish atheists who are not like that would disavow them though! I certainly am more than happy to say "acknowledging a cultural/societal dynamic that privileges one religion and culture as default and that existing in thay culture might cause people to have unexamined assumptions about other religions and cultures" should not be weaponized against individual people in order to bully them by insisting they are a thing that they manifestly are not (atheists aren't Christians. The fact that atheists from Jewish backgrounds will have Jewishness shackled to them regardless of their degree of identification with Being A Jew is actually bad and a function of antisemitism; it is not an aspirational dynamic we should be applying to other people simply because their cultural background is privileged over our own in our society.)

Like can we stop talking past each other and try to understand where people are coming from

People are expressing a lot of hurt and anger about atrocities and systems of oppression that I ultimately feel are totally interconnected. Because of this hurt and anger most people are not being precise in their language or prioritizing connecting or actual dialogue about this and instead focusing on dogpiling and gotchas. It's discouraging.

I'm a secular humanist jew with complex feelings towards both jewishness and atheism as concepts and movements. I want to understand and connect with people based on our common ground.

This is I guess all me being a big baby who is unsuited to internet fights but this one specifically feels really hurtful to me because I feel like my reality is being ignored and denied. I suspect a lot of people are also feeling that way. Which might be a good place to START the discussion to be honest.

I recommend by starting with the technical aspects of perspective and environments! which does not sound fun. and I might even go so far as to say it is not fun at all. But!! It is important!! Once you get the hang of drawing things in perspective with Math™, you can start doing all this free-handed! So if you feel up to some extra art homework, get yourself a sheet of paper and a ruler >:)

There's two kinds of perspective that I can tell you about, one-point perspective and two-point perspective. I'll go with one-point cause it's easier to explain haha

Below I've provided a picture of some of my own drawing homework from a class I took a few years back!! Annotated for clarity lol

So here we've got your Horizon Line (HL) , your Measuring Line (ML), your Central Vanishing Point (CVP), your Vanishing Point Left (VPL), and your Vanishing Point Right (VPR)!

Your HL determines where your horizon is in your drawing, which in most cases will be about halfway up your page! You can adjust this to fit your needs though, depending on where you want your point of view to be :)

The CVP is where your HL and ML intersect! The VPL and VPR are the "edges of your canvas" as it were—anything past these points start to get distorted, perspective-wise.

Your ML is the mvp of Math Perspective Drawing, and you're gonna want a ruler/measuring stick for it! The ML is in the center of your paper. Make some marks at regular intervals (in my drawing here they are all 1 inch apart, but they can be larger or smaller on yours!) up and down your ML. Then, using the same measurement, make marks along the HL. At the bottom of your page, leaving a bit of room below, make those same marks (aligned with the ones on the HL, so that if you connected them, they would make straight vertical lines).

Next step is starting The Grid™

From each mark made on the bottom of your page, draw connecting lines to the CVP (shown in red below)

Now, make a line from the bottom right corner of your "canvas" to the VPL (shown below in purple). Where the purple line intersects with the red lines of our half-formed grid is what determines where our horizontal lines of The Grid™ are located (indicated by light blue x's)!

So now we have a grid!! Woo!! Things have started to get a little messy so I'm removing my homework from the background. goodbye homework o7

This grid is what enables us to start drawing in perspective! If you wanna skip all the set up feel free to just. Screenshot what I've got here and use that for drawing on lol

Now we can draw BOXES. cubes, even!! And by learning how to translate other shapes onto the faces of these boxes, you can learn how to draw other things in perspective, like cylinders (seen on the left in pink). There are specific methods for drawing other volumes in perspective, but this post is long enough as is without me going into it haha

Using this knowledge, you can make all sorts of backgrounds!! Here's a super simple example (plus kitty, of course)

Once you've practiced using perspective, here's a few other miscellaneous tips!

Think about the location you're drawing. What would you find there? Is it a forest, a city, a field? Should there be trees? Boulders? Buildings?

Practice drawing different locations from life (or from photos). I cannot overstate how much this helps lol

Make some objects to distinguish Foreground, Midground, and Background. This is where perspective helps you! Once you can clearly distinguish between these three, your backgrounds start to feel deeper, if that makes sense?

Think about ways to make the ground uneven. Dips or hills in the landscape, small ridges/ledges, whatever fits for the location! Even in places with flat ground like an urban landscape, try to distinguish different levels in the ground, like from the sidewalk to the road. A lot of times, it makes the background more interesting to look at!

My girlfriend (ohstardew) started gushing about this story one day and I asked for the link because I was curious, and I can’t tell the amount of times we’ve chatted about it since as I’ve read through it to catch up. I wanted to share my thoughts in a comment so:

— Your writing is stellar. I can’t say this enough, it’s full of tension and drive, well-paced and with dialogue that feels like it is covering two layers at once. You embody need and lust with such a deft hand. — The power play in part 3 leading into their heated exchange, my god, the tension between them, the back and forth. You get the emotional beats down so well in this, this slow build heightening towards what we inevitably want to happen (even though I was biting my hand expecting it) — The start of part 4 with Snow was excellent hook to get me jumping into the story with bated breath and excitement. The way the reader raises the stakes, never easing up on the barbs and jabs and little daggers thrown his way, riling him up, oh it’s so good. — “Because I think you like chasing me.” This hits so hard and it’s such a good thematic statement of their dynamic. — The scene where she’s in his room showering and using his cologne… It’s such a small thing but it definitely is up there in my favorite parts of this whole story. — ok wait sorry for the full quote but “You faltered, if only for a few moments. Your pride wavering as you heard the want drip from his voice, still getting used to his eyes skating across your skin” (and its entire paragraph) is such good prose. I re-read it several times to savour it fully. The toxic jealousy that begins running at full steam ahead from this scene too, how it draws them closer into this messy spiral! Delicious. — It’d be remiss to not talk about the sex but the rising tension and climax it’s so good my brain kind of short-circuits. Getting Snow to snap and do it was such a deliciously long tease, the excitement paying off in the long run. (Sidebar but the warnings are good, thank you.) — The world-building and details you infuse into this makes it come alive so well. I cannot overstate how much it adds to the story, and how vividly it jumps off the screen because of that. It makes the reader-character feel more fleshed out and realized as an actual character anchored in the world, and had me hooked from the first chapter. There’s something to her that makes me root for her to get the one-up on Snow at times, even though I KNOW. That’s the power of your writing! — When she finds the drawer.. It felt like everything fell out from underneath her, in the most tantalizing and thrilling way possible. The heel turn in his treatment, the fury and rage and power oozing from him as he becomes so mean and nasty, it’s amazing. The sheer humiliation of how he treats her and yet she reacts the way she does!!!! (I think you did great navigating that dubcon scene fwiw. Really well balanced.) — You navigate smut and all its physical intricacies, the shame and want, the lust and filth, with pinpoint precision. I was re-reading trying to pick out a specific moment I liked the most, and really, all of it is so good it’s hard to choose. But the way you write Snow paying so much attention to the clit is top-tier. I keep lingering on that detail each time I read a scene, because it’s so perfect. It hits in all the right ways.

Finally, I appreciate all you do with this story. I could wait months if necessary, as long as you get the time you need to comfortably write. Thank you so much for sharing this.

Every time I listen to this album again, I am gobsmacked by how open and vulnerable and messy it is. I cannot believe that she is showing us this!

The previous telling spoke of safety, and I think that’s a key here — nervous system/interpersonal safety.

Her current relationship with TK must be a big part — someone relatively uncomplicated, kind, and steady who’s not totally thrown off by the public scrutiny (which, admittedly has been largely rosy. That helps, for sure!). If she didn’t have hope in the future, I am not sure she could be this raw.

But in terms of being able to access the depths of her emotion and turn it into art — I cannot overstate the importance of her trust in Jack and particularly in Aaron. The tracks on the back half of the album are a testament to this.

He is just such a gem. He is a steady, kind, safe harbour, and he has the capacity to keep up with and/or follow her artistically. THAT is alchemy, creative alchemy. And in my experience, it is so rare to find as adult.

Is it wrong that that is the thing about Blondie about which I am most envious?

(there are so few shows I actively watch that it makes this easy af)

1. the xfiles - I cannot overstate how much this show characterised my entire childhood but especially ages 14-16 ish. the space it took up in my brain was phenomenal. I should have been studied. haven't watched it in a while but I guarantee if you said an episode name I could tell you what happened in it.

2. agents of shield - I stand by this one. was the first season (or at least the first half of it) a bit lackluster? yes it was very much so. But as soon as they told the rest of the mcu to go fuck itself and stopped including the tie-ins it got really good. seasons 2/3/4 were some of the best. then it got tired in season 6 imo... but THEN it had one of the best concluding seasons of any show ever. good for them. not very gay though - only real criticism - and yet still gayer than the rest of the mcu.

3 You - me? watching a show with a male lead? improbable but not impossible. he's so awful and so so funny and I looovved Love (no surprises there). the new series being set in London was very jarring for me lmao but the characterisation of the british upper class was spot on tbf.

4. His Dark Materials - I'm a little obsessed with Ruth Wilson in this show like idc that everyone says she doesnt look like Marisa like she just IS marisa. the first season rearranged my brain chemistry.

5. Warrior Nun - idc if this makes me a stereotype like yes im a lesbian and I fucking loved that stupid show so much and I cried when they cancelled it. also I know some fans argue it wasn't campy but is WAS and it was GREAT like idc that sometimes the plot was weak it didn't even matter because the characters and their connections were everything. and just... Avatrice my beloved..... I have never seen a sapphic couple written with so much genuine love and care. like you actually get to see them fall in love?? believably???? and they're good people who are good for/to each other????? it fucked me up. I miss it so much like I love my messy gays too don't get me wrong but I'm also so scared I'll never see rep like them again rip.

For the sake of privacy we might not post photos on social media but, we finished a custom of our alterhuman robot headmate's tfsona. Cannot overstate how happy she was just rolling around the alt mode on a table with glee, at the rolling like the joy of something going nyoom or ‘zooming’ as we would say/write, and quite a bit like how early HRT was for them, and we hope the background happiness from this is just as persistent as what HRT has done for us is.

We do have original designs of robosonas/frames that give her euphoria, but those would be harder to make rn, and they does love transformers quite a bit after all too. The alt-mode is a car, yes, but has little wings for flying. While we were thinking about using a Road Rage to make her but found some 3d print wings that fit a 5mm socket so we chose a shape that they wanted more instead as much as she loves Road Rage, and the frame she chose still has a robust look. And yes, she has a sword, and a book, of course.

We feel- I don’t know, incredibly lucky to have been able to scavenge, wrangle, fight, hope, learn, love, and define our way to living long enough to assemble contexts of aesthetic iteration that led here in this messy world we live in?  There were times when they thought they weren’t going to make it, or thought they were all alone. But, we’re not alone, and we have learned things about ourselves that have changed our life for the better, and that *sniffs* is something we wish everybody could have, whatever their aesthetic or lack thereof is.

I hope you have a lot of fun participating this year, and the below is meant to help you with that! As usual, the only things that are hard lines are the squicks listed on the Yuletide form, but I'd prefer if you respected my other dislikes/squicks as well, even if our likes don't match and you chose not to use any of these prompts! Feel free to mix and match what you like ;)

I'm a very wordy person overall, so I mostly tried to place things as bulletpoints. I'd rather you have plenty to choose from and a good grasp on my likes/dislikes if you don't have an idea in mind already, than you wanting ideas and not finding any you like!

As a warning, the fandom-specific sections are exactly as in the form! They're here mostly for treats and archiving, so there is no need to read them again if you already went through the assignment info!

GENERAL LIKES

Truly egregious amounts of pining! Truly egregious amounts of increasingly obvious denial!

Non-established relationships - what I love most is the progression of the dynamics between two characters! The "pre-relationship or gen" tag works great for me!

Fake dating - it's one of my favourite tropes if you want to give it a whirl. Same for time loop fics!

As more or less stated on the second item, either gen or romance is fine! What really does it for me is the development of the dynamics between the characters, and how they find unprecedented levels of kinship and trust and intimacy and comfort and understanding with each other, not necessarily romantic acts. In fact, I don't particularly like huge romantic acts either, and would love a more subtle sort of thing if you're going down the romance road! (also if you wanna do like REALLY messy crunchy love-hate-leaning-on-hate relationships i also love those, but there should be some genuine fondness somewhere beneath all the rest);

If the characters are already petty by nature feel more than free tokeep that in, I love petty bitches;

Sticking to the tone of the original characterizations/canon/humour is definitely a plus! I love when ways of speaking and running gags and references to the original material show up!

Casual intimacy! CASUAL INTIMACY! I'm a sucker for this and it's super fun, especially if placed amidst bickering or an otherwise negative relationship - it throws a whole different depth to their interactions and really shows how comfortable the characters are with each other. DOUBLY so if they have some enmity going on at that point since that makes it downright hilarious and/or really interesting imo. A pair that communicates without needing to use words is also so intimate and great (regardless if they have a friendly relationship at the moment)! I love this kind of thing;

Trope subversion all the way!!!

Usually smooth characters not really knowing how to react at the possibility of feelings or the presence of the person they may or may not have feelings for, I'm so weak for that;

Enemies/rivals-to-reluctant-allies-(to-maybe-friends?)-to-lovers are *chef's kiss*;

I really need to emphasize how much I don't need a full romantic resolution or even a full story/ending resolution - like I said, what I like the most is how the dynamics between the characters evolve, both in gen and in romance! Ambiguous endings are fine both in terms of relationships and plot.

GENERAL YIKES

I really cannot overstate how much I don't want to see pregnancy or motherhood related stuff, mpreg and babies/toddlers included. Kidfics, babyfics, next gen fics, anything related to pregnancy or kids at all. This is my biggest squick alongside scat. Fandoms which have canon moments of this can reference it but I'd prefer if you didn't go super into it (and in the context of MJTY I'd rather it go unmentioned in general);

Unhappy endings (ambiguous or hopeful endings are more than okay!);

On the completely opposite direction, the stereotypical 2.5 kids white picket fence sort of happy ending;

For these fandoms, I'd pass on playing around with gender when it comes to characters that aren't canonly prone to it (RNZ and LQS), and even for those nothing permanent;

Most hard AUs (like merpeople AU or high fantasy AUs) are a pass from me. Further specified under each fandom;

No going into the hows and whys of a character's sexuality or gender or huge discussions of it - if they're bi/ace/etc, then they're bi/ace/etc and that's that, going into the backstory of it and other people's reactions (including their own) is a no from me. I would prefer if there were no depictions of homophobia, sexism, racism, transphobia, etc, even from the mouths of villain/background antagonistic characters;

A huge focus on a character's mental health/neurodivergence/physical disability; do feel free to include them (in particular if they exist in canon) but not center the entire fic on those issues;

Huge dramatic declarations of love (unless it's for a con or a bit);

Huge time skips. Except for some specific situations it makes me feel as if I've missed way too much development, which is my favourite part when it comes to relationships and character development;

Angst is.... *waggles hand*. I don't dislike angst, but it really depends on the kind. I'll give it a hard pass on stuff to do with major character death (unless they get better), sexual abuse, self-harm, gender/sexuality angst, and suchlike. I'd also rather not read one long torture/depression fic. Other than that, feel free to go ahead (but please don't give it an unambiguously bad ending!);

Huge non-canon past trauma;

Cheating and infidelity are HUGE no-nos, and even if you're not writing the characters as a ship please don't place them in other relationships;

Sickfics, dysphoria, deep dives into mental illness and other disorders;

Script-based or roleplay fic is not really my preferred format, I really enjoy prose instead of nearly 100% dialogue!

Tons of gore, permanent disabilitating injury (it's fine if it's like… one limb of your chosing or one eye getting fucked up, but more than that I'll pass), etc. I don't mind it, but I'd rather it not be the main focus of the fic. Note that I mean this for the main characters in particular, if you want to get really into background characters exploding into little bits I'm not stopping you;

Fully unrequited love between the main characters;

Flashback/nightmare/dream sequences.

IF YOU'RE GOING FOR SMUT

Kinks

Moderate masochism (pain is nice - anything from spanking to knife-play is A-OK - but maiming or an actual beating for sexual situations not so much. Dry penetration with no prep is no good (F/M or M/M), but the character being underprepped/understretched or too little lube used if M/M is fine!);

Bondage (especially predicament bondage or unconvencional bindings or paralysis, AKA got stuck in a compromising position somewhere or some way normally no one would get stuck);

RNZ's canon gender fuckery and crossdressing, and LQS absolutely not being able to deal with it/being weak to Zhu Meng or Ruan Baijie; RNZ getting kind of jealous over himself; RNZ taking LQS's weakness to Zhu Meng/Ruan Baijie to get closer to him/flirt with him or fake-date LQS in front of others

The two of them being tender with each other while very much not being in a relationship (yet). Making everyone wrinkle their noses at them and assume they're together, especially if RNZ is the smuggest bitch on the planet and LQS remains permanently oblivious to how they come across; permanent heart-eyes

RNZ being possessive and clingy over LQS, bonus points if at some point LQS returns the possessiveness (bonus BONUS points if he doesn't even realize that that's what he's doing)

Their post-Prometheus travel and how their relationship might have developed during that time and the difficulties that come with it;

David and Shaw learning to moderately trust/appreciate one another despite... well, everything. Growth!

Missing scene during Prometheus where they get to talk/debate some more and there's some mutual appreciation;

David trying to revive Shaw... and succeeding, to some extent. Either actually succeeding with no twist and having to deal with the fact he actually wants her to live, or bringing her back via experiments that might change her, or building a Shaw simulacrum as a fellow android or ship AI and having to deal with it not really being her anymore;

Shaw deciding to return home or to another colony because David is malfunctioning too much and they got close enough she can't make herself watch him "die" (and then have to deal with the void of space on her own);

A fucked up little relationship where they kind of loathe each other but also couldn't stand to think having to continue without the other;

Returning home for... reasons (David or the ship malfunctioning, Shaw getting sick, finding the Engineers turns out to be a dead end, etc) and Shaw/David having to deal with the terrible fact that they unfortunately want to stick together (whether they like each other or not is irrelevant, but David got used to her treating him like a person and no one else does, and to Shaw he's the only one who experienced everything she did that no one else can hope to believe or understand) and trying to figure out how to do so when Weyland Industries will surely try to get in the way, or how they try to go on to live a "normal" life after all that.

DNWs:

The fic set during/after Alien: Covenant, at least without changes to it to ensure Shaw's survival

SGQ and/or GSJ being conflicted about being reluctantly fond of the other despite all of his suspicions/her mission

Post-canon with them finding each other and having a situationship about it (they keep finding each other and spending the night together only for GSJ to keep waking up alone, or help each other when in predicaments/wounded and then run away before the other can catch them, or SGQ building a new identity solely so that she can openly flirt with him in public and him letting it happen, etc)

A slice of life scene of their sham marriage where they're actually fond/tender of the other and spend some time quietly together with mostly minimal scheming

SGQ topping, and this being a central point to their relationship in regards to them being honest with each other/to themselves regarding their own feelings towards the other (SGQ planning to leave; GSJ knowing she's a spy and doing it anyway; post-canon; etc)

GSJ gets wounded and SGQ is struck by how much she actually cares whether he lives or dies, maybe sneaks in for reluctant wound-tending while thinking he's unconscious (or, the other way around, post-torture scene wound-caring on GSJ's part)

ALSO!! cross stitch is a great way to pick up the basics of sewing. its easier because the little holes are your guide and you can use pixel art as reference images!

its a great way to get used to hand-sewing because its pretty repetitive and its really hard to make it messy (the back will be messy but thats normal!)

if youre really interested in sewing but dont know where to start, i cannot overstate how great of a jumping off point it is, and theres no cutting fabric necessary so you dont need to worry about waste!

and as a more general tip, if you wanna learn something, get out there and learn it! find youtube tutorials, ask friends, borrow books from the library! dont live your life regretting not trying something that looked fun because you were scared of messing up. we all messed up all the time as kids and thats how we learnt! remember that and give yourself grace.

Please, I implore you, do not be intimidated by sewing. 

If you try to make a thing and it turns out bad then it’s ok, you learned stuff by doing that. I see so many people say they want to sew stuff but are scared of screwing up, but it’s nothing to be afraid of!! Find some cheap thrift store fabric or secondhand clothes to cut up if you’re worried about wasting costly materials, but please just try sewing the things you want to!

just read the update on your fic and am so deeply shocked by all of the developments. i admit, i don't read through comments on popular stories because i've noticed (and as a long time fanfic reader this seems like a recent development, or at least something that's always happened but gotten particularly bad recently) there has been a general uptick in nasty and rude comments and behavior in fandoms (esp the hotd fandom where people insist on constantly being at each other's throats), and especially for works that actually provide nuanced, complicated, real characters who make real decisions that aren't always rational. and as a reader, seeing those comments even upsets ME and hurts my feelings, so i cannot imagine what that experience is like for a writer. therefore, i didn't realize there was any backlash to your latest chapter, which i thought was one of your best. i cannot overstate how much i love this story, and each of your messy delicious developments (i adored the jace/alyssane moment and all of the drama and complex emotions of it, and i adore alysanne as a MC. at the end of the day i support women's rights but i especially support women's wrongs and your alysanne feels like a real well-rounded flawed human being rather than some self-insert happy go lucky caricature). and then i read the latest announcement, and i admit, i am still not sure how your reply has offensive implications, however perhaps i lack context for the situation and what exactly happened. but either way, i really admire you for your apology and the mature way you've handled everything, and am honestly in awe of your ability to produce such high-quality work in the face of entitled commenters and remain level-headed and mature. i am so so happy to have gone on your tumblr and to see that you have been getting kind supportive comments here, and i would just like to add my voice to that support and the love and gratitude being sent to you. take all the time you need and make whatever decisions you need to make, but i truly hope you never doubt what a brilliant writer you are, and what a brilliant story this is. the past few months of my life have been a mess, and reading your hotd fics has been such a genuine bright spot by being something to help me get through each week and giving me something to look forward to. i am eternally grateful for the time and work you put into each one. sending you so much love and light. thank you!

tbh, I don't really have much energy health wise to rehash the whole situation and how everything went down. someone had been commenting on the story for a while with some entitled undertones, and then their comment on the most recent chapter (after a string of pretty severe hate - the worst of which will never see the light) caused me to lash out. after lashing out, I realized that part of my response crossed the line (bc it can be interpreted differently).

I don't have a screenshot of the OG comment that person made, but I do have a comment of my OG reply, so I guess I could share that? tho that just feels like stirring the pot again, and I don't wish to do that. idk, I've seen a few people debating whether that was offensive or not, and I don't think that's the point, you know, even if I do appreciate the support. people experience/interpret things differently.

anyhow. thanks for the statement of love! it means a lot, and I'm so glad you enjoyed the story. while I will not, and will never, unblock that user, two wrongs don't make a right and all that. I just want to move on, and the readers to move on (while taking this lesson into account). I just feel like I failed in cultivating a fun space for people, tho I suppose that might have been too big of an expectation? I've never experienced stuff like this before, and I feel like with popular(ish) stories in big fandoms it might be better for authors (or at least me) to not engage with comments.
