man conservatism really is the political party for people who never grew out of bullying people in their teens.
#'oh why do you say that' because im hearing it straight from them. right from the horse's mouth#my conservative grandma was watching conservative youtube shorts at full blast. as she usually does#she never uses the pair of headphones on her coffee table right next to her#and the woman that spoke through her phone speaker said;#''I don't mean to be rude really I don't#but the three women above me are.. obese; like these are obese women'' spoken with distain and annoyance#''If i'm a woman and my building is on fire i don't want these women to save me. like oh im about to die but thank god i'm in the company#of an obese lesbian.'' all spoken so derisively#with annoyance at the mere idea that a woman would be the one to save her#and she said with a straight face that she did not want women to be firefighters.#''I'd rather be saved by a big strong man am I right ladies?'' her words verbatim#''is that too much to ask?''#at the sight of a woman she assumes; oh this woman is weaker than a man by virtue of being a woman#under the guise of saying 'oh its just because theyre fat' no; there are plenty of men that are fat within firefighters#but i dont see you complaining about them hm?#its specifically women you direct your vitriol towards. queer women too.#and then describing the person who saves you as 'big and strong'#with such emphasis and longing that its clear its not safety you want its the idea of a 'big strong man' saving you like a fantasy#you use your fantasy of being whisked away by a big strong man to degrade the queers#and insinuate EVERYONE EVERYWHERE doesn't want women in firefighting.#because its not what youre into.#keep it in your fucking pants lady.#old man shakes fists at clouds

Rafe following his babysitter into the bathroom
Fucking her against the door, holding her mouth closed with his hand
His family just outside in the living room, while he is fing her as hard as he can
BABYSITTERS CLUB!
summary:..-> reader and rafe always had a thing for each other. everything changes once she picks up a babysitting job, babysitting the one and only kook king.
warnings:..-> smut, p n v, bad dirty words, wards a douche, rough sex, rushed sex, both cum quick:(, sex that could’ve got them caught?? EVERYONE IS OF AGE!!!
word count:..-> 2700.
a/n:..-> hello pookie and pookies! okay so don’t be mad….i know I didn’t do the bathroom but I hope this okay! i got tunnel vision and didn’t even realize! im sorry if i edged yall with the constant build up. yall writing sex is HARD. anyway requests are open bye love u. AND BE NICE.
It was almost laughable that Rafe fucking Cameron, kook king needed a babysitter. It WAS laughable. Ward Cameron had contacted you through Facebook knowing of the fact you babysit. Yeah, you did, but not 20-year-old frat guys.
Ward Cameron: Hello Y/n! Your father told me you do babysitting and I’m looking to hire one for tonight! It would be for my son and daughter, it may seem a little odd. My apologies. I will be having some important meetings with a large group, and I don’t trust either to be on their best behavior. Please contact me back so we can discuss further! I’ll pay 500$ for 3 hours.
The message sent you into a fit of cackles, screenshotting the text and sending it to all your friends. The idea was so tempting. So fucking tempting. 500$ for 3 hours was a literal steal…Yet you were going to be in the presence of the insufferable Rafe Cameron. You hadn’t had many interactions with Rafe, he usually just teased you for being the ‘prude good girl’ every time you told him no to hook up. You’d be lying to yourself if you said you didn’t think about letting him fuck the shit out of you, hell you almost did. Every time you’d open your mouth to try and agree he’d open his spewing his bullshit, immediately forcing you to shut your own.
You bit at the soft flesh on your bottom lip, tapping the phone with your eyes trained on the text. Fuck it. 500$ for keeping the cocky frat boy in line sounded so good, so so fucking good. You agreed, and your thumbs moved quickly over the screen. Your lip was still tucked firmly between your teeth as you waited for his father’s reply.
Y/n L/n: That sounds good! Thank you so much Mr. Cameron! I’ll be there. When should I be there and can I have the address?
Ward Cameron: Of course Y/n! My meeting is in about 40 minutes, I would like you here as soon as possible. I will be here the whole time so I’ll give you a rundown of responsibilities and such when you arrive. *address*.
This soon? You immediately scrambled to your feet, throwing on some more appropriate clothes than your lounge ones. You were so quick you thought your heels were on fire.
Soon enough here you were on the Camerons porch knocking on the front door. Jesus, why did you agree to this? Fuck. The only time you ever interacted with Rafe was when you were fucked up, now here you were sober about to babysit the grown-ass man. This is ridiculous. The door swung open, of fucking course Rafe Cameron was the one to answer it. Sporting his stupid handsome smirk and backward cap. “You’re the one who’s keepin’ me on a leash tonight girl?” He drawled, flashing you his teeth.
Goddamn, his fucking fine ass. You tongued the inside of your cheek, fighting the urge to roll your eyes at his comment. With a tilt of your head and a soft huff, you finally met his gaze. “Just shut up and let me in Cameron,” With that Rafe chuckled, shaking his head as he moved from the door opening it further. You could feel his sharp stare as you walked past him and into the house. You were a little in awe at the niceness but quickly masked it, tucking your face back into its resting expression. Rafe didn’t miss it as he sidestepped around you, his smirk only growing.
“You never been in a house this nice princess?,” Rafe taunted, his smirk replaced with a smug smile.”Come on, my dad’s in here,” He led you further into the home, and you lagged behind. Cursing him internally at his snarky comments. Why was this dude such a diva? You followed aimlessly looking around at the different decor, this was so different from your own house.
Ward Cameron sat on the sofa, his attention on the laptop resting on the marble coffee table, his fingers working against the keys. He just looked like a dick, great….Rafe cleared his throat and shifted on his feet. You picked up his sudden change in demeanor, his once arrogant self replaced with a look that looked like a kicked puppy. It was sad, actually very sad. But you shrugged off your sympathy as Ward glanced up his face lighting up in foe friendliness. “Y/n my dear. Thank you for coming,” Ward greeted, closing the distance between the three. “Right well, I'm having a large meeting this evening. Lots of colleagues and other investors are joining me today. We will be using the living room, my office would be far too cramped. I’m just asking you to keep an eye on everyone and out of the living room.”
This man just screamed condescending. You nodded, sending him a soft smile. Once again you fought the urge to roll your eyes, how did he expect his grown son to listen to her? He was Rafe Cameron. It was widely known he doesn’t listen to anyone. “Yes sir, I can do that.” You spoke softly and sweetly, it was an act yet you wanted that 500$. Rafe sent you another smirk before he licked his lips to keep his dirty comment to himself. Ward nodded, reaching out to softly pat your shoulder. He quickly pulled away, and you fought the urge to jerk away. “Great! Well, Rafe behave. You’re 20 years old. It’s ridiculous that I had to even hire her.” Ward shot his son a pointed look, which made Rafe emotionally cower. Rafe just firmly nodded, his arms folded over his chest. You had to divert your gaze, your cheeks heating as you noticed how his shirt sleeves were straining against his muscles. Fuck.
A firm rushed knock at the front door thankfully interrupted your sinful thoughts. Ward immediately jerked his head to the noise, moving past the young adults. “Right, that's my meeting. So see you both later.” Ward called as he barely bothered looking over his shoulder at the two. He disappeared out of the living, and you could feel Rafe's eyes on you. Jesus Christ, does he have an off button? You met his gaze, surprised to see it was blank. “What?” You questioned, your face slightly twisted and your eyebrow arched.
Rafe just sighed deeply, running his hand over his cap. “Let’s get upstairs before he throws a bitch fit,” Rafe muttered, his body already moving toward and up the stairs. You followed, your heart beating wildly. It felt weird how domestic? No. Casual. Yeah, how casual this was. His long legs ate away at the distance of the stairs, you lagged behind feeling a little awkward by everything. I mean you’re fucking babysitting Rafe Cameron and his little sister, it was weird. You made your way to the top of the steps, glancing at him awkwardly for his next move. You could already hear the chatter from the men downstairs.
“Quit actin’ all fuckin shy girl, Les’ go Sarah’s in here,” Rafe smirked his head cocking over to a door, his hand pulling the door open. “How’s it hangin’ Sar?,” You were now standing in the doorway of what you assumed was a movie room, you knew they were rich but they were richhh. Sarah barely glanced up from her phone at the duo, shrugging her shoulders in response. Rafe plopped down on one of the sofas, legs spread open as he looked you over. “Sooo, are you always this weird when you're sober princess?”
You couldn’t help but roll your eyes at his words. He was so damn cocky and for what? You scowled at him, your pretty face twisting. “Do you always need a babysitter at your grown age?” You snarked, your hands crossing over your chest and you shifted your weight to your hip. Rafe took notice of that and eyed your hip for a moment, chuckling as he tongued the inside of his cheek.
“Real cute baby, don’t be throwin’ that up in my face.” Rafe rasped, his eyes looking over you cocking his brow at the fact you were still standing in the doorway. He patted the cushion next to him, a smirk on his lips. “Don’t be shy princess, I won't bite.”
You thought for a moment before begrudgingly plopping yourself down next to him. It was a small couch, so small you were brushing thighs with him. You averted your gaze as you felt your cheeks flush at the contact. You knew he was planning something, you could feel it in his stares. Rafe was planning something, more so just thinking about fucking you stupid over the armrest of the couch. He was going to hell for what he was about to ask, especially with Sarah in the room. He leaned forward, bracing his hand on the top of the couch. Rafe's chest was flush against your shoulder, his head ducked down by your ear fanning his breath down your neck. “Why won’t you let me fuck you princess?”
His words sent a shiver down your spine, his breath sending your mind into overdrive. You bit your lip, adjusting your skirt to try and compose yourself. You were bright red and you could feel it, you could also feel the ache between your legs at his tone. You had to remind yourself Sarah was in the room. You looked over at him and felt like you could melt when you met his smug gaze. “I mean..I-I would-,“ Your voice was low and quiet, careful for Sarah's listening ears, but before you could finish Sarah's dramatically loud groan and the thump of her phone cut you off. You were so down bad.
“The fuc- The wifi just went out, ugh. Rafe fix it,” Sarah whined, looking at her older brother with pleading eyes. The only issue was the router was in the living room. Rafe sighed deeply at the interruption, glancing over at Sarah with narrowed eyes.
Rafe definitely couldn’t go down there and fuck with the router with his dad having a meeting. It was the whole point why Y/n was there. But he could get her downstairs and alone…So tempting in his pervy brain and worth a shot. “Fine. Come on Y/n. Be my cover.”
Seriously? He was going to go down there, practically asking for a meltdown from his dad. Before you could protest he had you by the forearm and dragged you out of the movie room. “Rafe-“ You went to speak but he cut you off as he pressed his finger to his lips, silently shushing you as the two of you crept down the stairs. You both met at the bottom of the stairs, the living room just around the corner, a wall protecting the view of the duo. The laughs and voices of multiple men were slightly muffled from the distance.
You crept forward, keeping close to the wall not without shooting Rafe a pointed look. You were falling right into his dirty trap, just like he wanted. His mind only focused on fucking that cunt and your interrupted words. Before you could peek over the corner he pressed your back flush against the wall, his body eliminating the distance as he pressed his front to yours. He smirked down at you, his eyes roving over you like you were prey. “Finish your sentence, pretty girl.” He commanded, his voice low, careful to not attract anyone’s attention.
Your mouth opened to speak but the words were lost in your throat. Your mind was spinning at the closeness, your pussy was practically pleading. You could only hold his intense stare, his hand snaking around to grip the back of your thigh. “Say it. Tell me you want this dick baby.” Rafe cooed his mouth coming to your ear, his lips brushing the skin. Fuck this. You were already soaked from his touch, his words only increased the throb. You couldn’t believe what you were about to do, but it was Rafe fucking Cameron…
You nodded weakly, hands fisting his shirt as you lifted the thigh he grasped. “I want it, please.” You wanted to smack yourself for the desperation in your tone, but you never wanted to get fucked like you did now. Rafe pounced, his lips immediately crashing into yours. It was sloppy and full of need. God, he kissed like a fucking whore. You couldn’t help but mewl against his lips, your body felt like it was on fire. His hands were everywhere, leaning his body against yours as his hands grabbed the flesh of your ass from under your skirt. Which earned him another soft mewl, yet it was muffled by his soft lips. He rutted himself against you, god this was so nasty. So down bad. But you were fucking loving it. So was Rafe.
He pulled away, his chest heaving with heavy deep breaths. His lips were wet, and he looked sinful. You moved your hands to the waistband of his shorts, working away the button and zipper. You couldn't help it truly. Rafe liked your eagerness, his ego inflated as well as his dick. “Needy fuckin’ girl.” Rafe tsked lowly, assisting you as he tugged away down his shorts, his hands moving to the waistband of his boxers, he couldn’t help but smirk at your reaction to the tent in his boxers. Your eyes were wide, pretty lips parted in need. He freed himself from the boxers, fisting his cock as he looked you over. Fuck. He was so hot. You took this as your cue, you moved your panties to the side. This wasn’t the best spot to get caught fully exposed…
“Rafe…What if someone- fuck- mph-“ You whispered, cut off by Rafe thrusting his cock into you his hand clamping over your mouth. He kept his other hand on the back of your thigh, as he pounded into you. His cock was moving in your slick walls at a relentless pace, his fat tip brushing areas you never knew existed.
Rafe had his lips parted, his head hung back as your pussy clenched tightly around him. He kept his hand firmly clasped around your mouth, he smooshed the side of your face into the wall, his cock fucking into you at an unforgiving pace. The sound of your pelvis’s kissing was sinful. “Take it, take this fat dick,” Rafe growled lowly, his eyes glancing to the corner of the wall as he heard a couple of men speak louder.
You couldn’t even muster a response, let alone voice it due to his harsh grip around your mouth. You could only pathetically whine and cry against his palm, as his cock brushed that spongy spot deep into you. Your teeth grazed the flesh of his hand as he repositioned his thrusts, fucking you upwards against the wall. You clawed at his arms, your cunt squeezing tightly around his cock. God, you couldn’t believe how close he had gotten you so quickly. Your lower stomach burned with need, your core aching for release. You could tell Rafe was close, his brows knitted and his lip tucked between his teeth. His cock twitched in your velvety walls, he dropped his hand from your thigh moving his fingers to firmly rub your clit. You bit at the flesh of his hand, hoping to muffle your screams as you crashed over the edge. Your body trembling, eyes rolled back as you made a mess on his fat cock. You clamped down on his cock as Rafe let out a deep groan, planting his cock deep into you as he painted your womb with his warm cum. Your chest heaved with fast shaky breaths, you just let Rafe Cameron fuck you against a wall, while his father and however many men were on the other side.
Rafe pulled out of you, a sly smile on his lips. He pulled your panties back to the side and tucked himself back into his boxers with a chuckle. He held your wide blown-out gaze as he pulled his shorts up. “You’re a shit babysitter princess.”

gone wrong
words: 500
warnings: established relationship, pranks, brief yelling, death threat but in an unserious way
you skip happily towards the truck waiting at the end of your driveway.
you hurry to open the door, letting out a small squeal when you see rafe sat in the drivers seat.
“missed you baby.” you say, climbing in and immediately leaning across to give him a kiss, which he's more than happy to accept.
you sit down in your spot, the passenger side that you've claimed for yourself. you reach the door handle and pull it shut when rafes head snaps towards you.
“don't slam my door!” he yells. your eyes widen as you take in his harsh tone of voice.
you melt into your seat, physically shrinking as tears cloud your vision. you let out a small mumbled apology.
“shit, baby.” rafe grabs his phone from where it was set up, thrusting it into your hands. “it was just a prank, baby.”
“oh.” you giggle softly, but rafe can tell you're still upset as he tosses his phone down, not caring about the dumb tiktok as he wraps his arms around you, ignoring the center console poking into him.
“i would never yell at you like that baby, you're my whole world.” he presses kisses to your cheek until a genuine smile stretches across your face.
“that was not a funny prank, rafey.” you wipe underneath your eyes, making sure no tears will escape and ruin your makeup.
“how about i take you shopping after we eat, yeah? would that make up for it?” he asks, gently rubbing his hand up and down your arm, still feeling guilty.
“do you think we could also get ice cream?” you ask, batting your eyelashes at him.
“anything for you.” rafe says, giving you another kiss. “and i really am sorry.”
“don't worry.” you shake your head. “ill get you back.”
-- two weeks later --
“thanks for driving me, rafey.” you say, looking down at your hands sheepishly. “and paying.”
“of course.” rafe chuckles. “you're my girl, i got you.”
“my legs are so soft now.” you say, knowing you have the chance now to back out of the prank, but no, you need to get him back. “and he did a great job, i swear i have no hair from the neck down.”
“he?” rafes eyebrow raises. “you didn't go to your normal girl?”
“nope.” you shake your head and shrug, like its casual. “she had another client so i went to a new guy.”
“you let a guy wax your fucking pussy?” rafes tone is slow and even, but you can tell there's a fire just beneath the surface.
“i mean, that's like his job.” you roll your eyes dramatically.
“was this guy gay?”
“no.” you look to rafe, trying to hold back your laughter. “in fact, his girlfriend just broke up with him. we talked about it a bit while he was doing my thighs.”
rafe unbuckles without another word, glad he hasn't started driving away yet.
“rafe, wait!” you reach across to grab his arm as he reaches for the door handle.
“no, im gonna kill-”
“it's a prank!” you grab your phone, showing him that you're recording. “and i got you good!”
“jesus, baby.” rafe places a hand over his chest. “you're trying to kill me.”
“sweet, sweet revenge.” you laugh maniacally.

Forgetful Love
A Joel x reader birthday oneshot
Summary: she wasn't surprised that he forgot her birthday. Considering the weight he carried on his shoulders, it was a given that it would slip his mind. But she knew that Joel would make it up to her, as he always did.

Main masterlist
Joel Miller has a very bad habit of forgetfulness.
It seemed that no matter how hard he tried, he could not quite shake the inclination to forget important details. Whether it was a scheduled appointment, Sarah’s sleepover parties at his house, or even where he last left his keys, the man’s memory often failed him in the most inconvenient of moments.
His mind was constantly overloaded, buzzing with endless to-do lists and responsibilities. It was a never-ending whirlwind of tasks, each demanding his attention and care. No wonder he often forgot things—there was simply too much information swirling around in his head. She could see it in his eyes, could almost hear the gears in his mind grinding as he tried to juggle everything.
So really, she wasn't surprised that he forgot her birthday. Considering the weight he carried on his shoulders, it was a given that it would slip his mind. She understood that his forgetfulness wasn't done out of ignorance or indifference, but merely a result of being so caught up in the chaos and commotion of life.
The day was spent in the quiet haven of her kitchen, where music played softly in the background, filling the air with a soothing, familiar melody. The rich, sweet aroma of chocolate cake hung in the air and the taste of a cool, sweet, iced coffee on her tongue.
When the cake had cooled and iced, the turntable played static at the end of the record and the ice coffee turned warm, Joel texted.
A lot.
Joel: i am the worst person on earth Joel: sarah waited until NOW to remind me Joel: not that its her fault. thats all on me Joel: i fired her as my mini assistant BTW Joel: happy birthday Joel: im sorry Joel: i love you Joel: im coming over now
The texts from Joel, no matter when they arrived, brought a soft smile to her face. Whether it was at 12am this morning or as the clock ticked over to tomorrow, she couldn’t bring herself to feel upset.
She could picture the scene that more than likely unfolded in her mind. She imagined Sarah casually mentioning the forgotten day as Joel strolled through the door, his keys slipping from his fingers as he panicked. Then, a stream of swears escaping him as he frantically searched for his phone, only to realize it was still in his truck, where he had left it after a long day’s work. And to top it all off, his phone was, predictably, dead because he had forgotten to charge it… again.
She couldn’t help but chuckle as she thought about how the scenario was bound to play out. Deep down, she knew that forgetfulness and chaos were just a couple more quirks in the man she loved. That’s why she had already taken the initiative to order takeout, ensuring that even if the day didn’t start perfectly, it would at least end the way it should.
As she stood in front of the table, the evidence of her efforts laid out before her—the homemade cake and the take-out food neatly arranged and plated—she couldn't help but feel a mix of affection and amusement.
She took a quick photo and sent it to him in response to his texts.
*photo attached* Don’t stress!
Ten minutes after she had sent the picture, the sound of the front door opening echoed through the apartment. Joel had finally arrived and she could hear the soft shuffle of his feet as he made his way inside. She waited expectantly at the dining table and watched as he strode around the corner, flowers in hand.
Flowers from his garden.
He trudged towards the table, his shoulders drooped in a mix of defeat and disappointment. The bouquet of flowers in his hand sagged slightly as he approached, and he stopped just short of the table. His eyes met the food laid out before him. "I should have been the one to do all this for you," he mumbled, his frown deepened with guilt.
She attempted to ease his guilt; her voice soft as she spoke. "It's okay," she assured him, watching as he sank into the chair at the table. But she could see from the guilt-ridden expression on his face that he wasn’t convinced, his eyes downcast as he settled into his seat.
She gently took the bouquet from his hand and brought it to her face, inhaling deeply. The sweet, familiar scent filled her senses—a fragrance that reminded her of both him and his daughter. It was a warm, comforting smell, like a snapshot of their lives together. Smiling into the petals, she held the flowers close.
“These are really pretty.” She said.
“Sarah picked them, wrapped them up for you,” Joel's voice was soft as he spoke and just as her fingers traced the delicate petal of a flower, he reached into his jacket pocket, pulled out a small box and placed it on the table, “even made you this.”
Her smile widened as she carefully opened the box, revealing the origami animals inside. One by one, she took them out. Her laughter filled the room as she admired each one. The origami creatures were a little wonky and uneven, but they were endearing in their imperfection.
“Can see she’s really taking those books I got her seriously.”
"Got a real talent for it. Everything she picks up, she does it perfectly.” As Joel spoke, his fingers fidgeted with the strap of his watch. A frown etched deep on his face.
Her intuition picked up on the nuance behind his words, and she couldn’t help but notice the undercurrent of comparison and self-criticism in his tone. It was clear to her that Joel struggled with feelings of inadequacy.
She placed the origami down beside the flowers and reached gently across the table, her hands enclosing his fidgeting ones. Her voice was soft and reassuring as she spoke, offering comfort and support. "She gets it from you," she said. "Her determination, her talents—they come from you. You've given her the building blocks to excel. You're not the failure you think you are, Joel."
“I forgot your birthday.”
“You’re here, aren’t you?”
“I should have taken you out for dinner, bought you gifts and made you feel special. Instead you bought your own dinner and cooked your own damn birthday cake.” Joel let out a deep sigh, his eyes met hers as he pressed her hand to his lips and placed a gentle, tender kiss on her knuckles.
Her words were soft and sincere as she spoke, her eyes meeting his. "You always make me feel special. Just being here is enough." she confessed. A smile tugged at her lips as she added, "And let's be honest, I make a damn good cake. I would have done that anyway." The lightheartedness in her tone elicits a laugh from Joel, his head shook in amusement as he dropped her hand.
A soft sigh escaped his lips. The corners of his mouth tugged upwards; a tender smile formed as he looked at her.
He nodded, conceding to her words with a mock reluctance. "Yeah, alright," he huffed as his gaze shifted down to the spread of food laid out before him on the table.
As she stood to take the flowers into the kitchen, Joel continued, "I've cleared my plans for next weekend," he said, a note of excitement in his voice. "We're going to hit that hiking trail I've been talking about. It's got a real nice river and views."
She chuckled to herself as she filled a vase with water and placed the flowers inside, their vibrant colors adding warmth to the room. Hearing his mention of the weekend plans, she decided to tease him a little. "I actually already have plans," she called out from the kitchen.
As she returned to the dining table, carrying the vase of flowers in her hands, she noticed the disappointment etched onto Joel's face. His expression mirrored a mixture of surprise and a touch of hurt, realizing that she had other plans for the weekend.
Without him.
She set the vase of flowers down in the center of the table. Then, she took her seat across from him. Her movements were slow and deliberate, prolonging the anticipation. A playful smile tugged at the corners of her lips as she met his gaze.
She began to dish their dinners and she smiled to herself as she spoke. "You see," she began, her tone lighthearted, "there's this guy who forgets everything under the sun." She paused, letting the words sink in as she met his gaze, a playful sparkle in her eyes. "I had a feeling he would forget today. That he'd be all mopey about it and try to make things up by taking me away for the weekend. So, I already planned to spend my weekend with him."
Joel's eyes settled on her and his smile radiated with adoration. The look on his face was almost reverent, his gaze softened with love and appreciation. The corners of his lips tugged upward and his heart felt fuller than ever before, grateful for her understanding and patience with him.
“I love you, you know that right?” He asked.
Without hesitation, she responded, her voice filled with unwavering certainty.
"I’ve never been more sure of anything in my life."
Hand in hand, Joel led the way as he guided her along the path. Her gaze, however, was fixed on the ground at her feet. He had teased her multiple times, telling her that she was missing out on the scenic views by looking down all the time. However, she couldn’t help it—the fear of tripping over a rock or root made her keep her focus on the ground.
He had helped her regain her balance each time, his hand steadied her as she stumbled. But by the fifth time, the teasing ceased. Replaced with a more protective, watchful gaze.
The afternoon sun was high, casting a warm glow over the landscape as they reached the river. The grass beneath their feet was soft and lush, and the tall trees provided a shady canopy overhead. The air was filled with the melodic tunes of birds, singing their hearts out, while playful rabbits darted amongst the colorful flowers.
She was at a loss for words, her eyes widened as she absorbed the breathtaking view around them. As he released her hand and continued walking, she stayed still for a moment, mesmerized by the natural beauty of their surroundings. It was only when he placed a blanket on the grass and began unloading food from his bag that she snapped out of her reverie, drawn to join him.
The sunlight glinted on his skin, and his eyes sparkled with mirth as he looked up at her, a wide smile stretched across his face. "I had to fight off Tommy this morning," he chuckled, a hint of playful exaggeration in his voice. "He came over hungover and drooled at the sight of all the food.”
She laughed and took her seat beside him. The contagious nature of his smile spread to her own lips.
They sat beside each other; their shoulders gently pressed together. Their conversations flowed easily against the backdrop of the rushing water and the gentle breeze. Their gazes danced back and forth between the flowing river and each other's eyes. An intimate atmosphere filled with stolen glances and warm smiles.
Joel's voice broke the comfortable silence as they strolled along the riverbank, stomachs full. "I really am sorry," he said, his eyes fixed on the water's edge as they walked together.
She moved closer to him, their fingers laced together as she gently nudged his shoulder with hers. A soft smile graced her lips as she hugged his arm. “I know." she said, her voice gentle and understanding. "But I was never upset with you."
“You should have been.”
“Would you have been upset if I forgot your birthday?” She asked.
“Well, no-”
Her voice was soft and comforting as she spoke, her cheek pressed against his arm, her gaze fixed on his face. "Then don’t stress yourself over it," she said, a gentle understanding smile played on her lips. "The only person who’s upset about you forgetting, is you."
His smile was subtle, barely visible on his lips as he nodded in acknowledgment of her words. There was a hint of relief in his eyes, as if a small burden had been lifted.
“I just want to do better by you.” He sighed, a shrug of his shoulders.
A buzz in her pocket grabbed her attention, pulling her gaze away from Joel and onto her phone. She pulled it out and stared down at the screen, her focus shifted from the man beside her to the message on her phone.
Sarah: Tried calling dad. Phone’s dead AGAIN. Got me thinking the two of you have fallen down a cliff or drowned or something. Sarah: also can you ask him to get juice on his way home PLEASE? Tommy drank it all
She shook her head; a small huff of laughter escaped her lips as she glanced up at Joel.
Of course his phone was dead, she thought.
“How about we take small steps to being better, and I know just how to start you off.” She said as she poked his arm.
He hummed.
“And what would that be babe?”
“Charge your phone, Sarah thinks you’re dead.”
Joel cursed under his breath. His expression turned into a frown as he patted his pockets. He muttered that he must have left his phone back at the car.
Her lips curled into a smile as she stealthily lifted her phone and snapped a picture of Joel, capturing his grumpy expression as he searched for his missing phone.
She sent the photo to Sarah.
Here’s a photo of your very much alive dad realizing that not only is his phone dead, but back in the car. Sarah: He’ll never change Sarah: I love him.
A smile tugged at the corners of her lips as she read Sarah's message. A pang of affection and adoration filled her chest as she gazed back at Joel, still on the quest to find his misplaced phone.
She slipped her phone back into her pocket and reached out, taking hold of his hands. His grumbling continued like a low murmur in the background, the annoyance at having forgotten his phone still fresh in his mind. In response to his frustration, she gently but firmly gripped his hands, bringing his attention back to her.
Her voice was soft but firm as she told him, "I love you so much." She meant it with every fiber of her being. She loved his flaws, quirks, and imperfections with unwavering affection. She loved him completely, without reservation and with every ounce of her heart.
His response was sincere, his voice filled with warmth and affection as he replied, "I love you too." There was a visible shift in his demeanor as his shoulders relaxed, a weight lifted from the weight of his disappointment. He held her gaze, his own eyes met hers, and in that moment, she knew he saw the depth of her love reflected at him.
Despite his repeated forgetful blunders, no matter how many birthdays he managed to forget, she knew that as long as he loved her, she wouldn't hold it against him. She understood that his forgetfulness didn't diminish his feelings for her. In fact, his efforts to make it up to her only strengthened her belief in the depth of his love. It was a testament to their connection, a reminder that even if he weren't the perfect planner, his love was unshakable and unwavering.
She was sympathetic to his guilt and the weight of disappointment when he let others down. She knew how much he prioritized making the people in his life happy. That's why it was impossible for her to be upset with him. He was trying his best, and that counted for everything in her eyes. She understood his innate need to please others, and she would rather support and reassure him than hold his forgetfulness against him.
Because she loved him with everything.
And he, loved her more.
EXTRA
SARAH POV
Sarah had written the date on various notes and stuck them around the house where she knew he would see them. He didn’t see them, oblivious to them, actually. She thought sticking one on the coffee machine was the perfect place, but she should have known that her dad would miss his alarm again and end up getting a coffee on the way to work instead.
She had set an alarm to remind him in his phone too, only for his phone to be dead before he even left for work.
She instead spent her Saturday picking flowers from their yard and bundled them into a bouquet for when her dad got home and began to freak out. She made little origami animals and left the box next to the flowers on the dining table and waited for her dad to get home.
He had come home that night, a deep sigh as he walked through the door. She didn’t need to see him to know what his face looked like when she called out it was his girlfriend’s birthday today. She heard him swear, heard his keys drop to the floor and the telltale sound of him patting his pockets to find his phone. She heard him swear again and then the front door opened and closed. She smiled to herself when he ran into the kitchen, mumbling that his phone is flat and asking her where a charger was as he digs through a bits and pieces bowl on the kitchen counter. Sarah casually held the charger in her hand and he thanked her five times. She pushed the present she made and the flowers and she could see the guilt in his face as he took them. He promised he would take her out for dinner and that movie she’s been nagging him to go see with her.
She texted Tommy if he was free to hang out with her next weekend because she knew that her dad would take his girlfriend out for a weekend away– she had been purposefully talking about that hiking trail after all.
And when her dad’s phone went straight to voicemail while he was away, she knew she should have found his phone and put it on charge for him.
She didn’t mind doing any of this, they were a team after all.

series masterlist / previous / next
Jungkook drummed his fingers against the steering wheel as he watched you disappear into your apartment. He let out a long sigh, shifting in his seat. Something about the whole night had left him feeling off. It wasn't that he liked you—he didn't. You were just Y/N, his friend. But still, the thought of you getting all flustered around Jimin, of Jimin flirting with you, had irritated him more than he'd expected.
He turned the key in the ignition, the quiet hum of the engine filling the car as he pulled away from your building and headed toward his place. His mind kept drifting back to the way Jimin had teased him, how he'd made it seem like Jungkook had some claim over you. That wasn't it. He didn't care if you dated someone, it wasn't his business. But someone like Jimin? One of his closest friends? That was a different story.
Jungkook wasn't protective over you in the romantic sense, but there was a boundary there, unspoken but important. He didn't want his friends getting involved with you. It wasn't jealousy—it was more like... discomfort. He would never get involved with any of your friends. He knew Jimin could be flirty, and the last thing Jungkook wanted was for things to get messy between you and his circle.
As he drove through the quiet streets, the city lights flickering past, he tried to shake off the feeling. You'd probably think he was being ridiculous if you knew how much he'd overthought the whole thing. But you were his friend—he just wanted to make sure you weren't getting mixed up in something that would hurt you later.
By the time he pulled up in front of his apartment, the tension in his chest had eased slightly. He parked, leaned back in his seat for a moment, and stared out at the dimly lit street. His phone buzzed in the center console, and he picked it up, glancing at the screen.
Jimin.
Jungkook rolled his eyes but smirked a little, knowing exactly what the call was going to be about. He hit answer and put the phone on speaker as he stepped out of the car.
"Hey, man," Jimin's voice came through, casual but with that familiar teasing edge. "Did you drop off our girl safely?"
Jungkook kicked the door shut and walked toward his building, shaking his head. "She's not our girl. And yeah, I did."
There was a pause, then a laugh from Jimin's side. "Come on, don't tell me you're still pissed about earlier. I was just messing around."
Jungkook sighed as he unlocked his apartment door and stepped inside, flicking on the lights. "I'm not pissed. Just—" He hesitated, running a hand through his hair. "I don't want you messing with her."
"Messing with her?" Jimin repeated, sounding amused. "Dude, I wasn't even serious. Y/N's cool, but I know you're protective of her."
"I'm not protective," Jungkook said quickly, dropping his keys onto the kitchen counter. "It's just... she's my friend. I don't want her getting involved with any of you guys and then having things go south."
Jimin chuckled, clearly not taking it as seriously as Jungkook. "Man, you're making it sound like I'm planning to date her or something. I was just having a little fun."
Jungkook frowned, leaning against the counter. "Yeah, well, I don't want her to get the wrong idea. She doesn't know you like I do. You flirt with everyone, and she might take it seriously."
There was a beat of silence before Jimin responded, his tone a bit more thoughtful now. "So what, you're saying she's off-limits?"
Jungkook let out a frustrated breath, trying to find the right words. "I'm not saying she's off-limits, I'm just saying... she's not like other girls you flirt with. She's—she's Y/N, okay? She's not into that kind of stuff."
"You sound like you're her big brother or something," Jimin teased, though his tone was more serious now. "Look, I get it. You're looking out for her. But, Jungkook, if you don't have feelings for her, why do you care so much if she ends up liking one of us?"
Jungkook froze for a second, caught off guard by the question. He hadn't really thought about it that way before. It wasn't like he had feelings for you, but the idea of you dating one of his friends—especially Jimin—just didn't sit right with him.
"I don't care if she dates someone," Jungkook said finally, his voice a bit tighter than he intended. "I just don't want her to get hurt."
Jimin was quiet for a moment, then sighed. "Okay, okay, I get it. I'll back off. I didn't realize you were this serious about it."
Jungkook relaxed a little, relieved that Jimin was taking him seriously now. "Thanks, man. I just don't want things to get weird."
"Fair enough," Jimin agreed. "But you might want to figure out why you care so much, 'cause from where I'm sitting, it's looking a little sus."
Jungkook scoffed, rolling his eyes even though Jimin couldn't see him. "There's nothing sus about it. I just don't want things to get complicated."
"Whatever you say, bro," Jimin replied, clearly not convinced but willing to let it go for now. "Anyway, I'll catch you later. Try not to overthink it too much, alright?"
"Yeah, yeah," Jungkook muttered, ending the call and tossing his phone onto the couch.
As he sat down, the conversation played over in his mind. He wasn't overthinking it—he was just being a good friend. Looking out for you. That's all it was.
Jungkook stretched out on his bed, tossing his phone back and forth between his hands, his mind finally starting to quiet down.
His phone buzzed, and he saw your name pop up on the screen. Smiling, he answered, putting it on speaker as he lay back on his pillows.
"Hey," he greeted, his voice casual.
"Hey, Jeon," you replied, sounding a little tired but upbeat. "You home?"
"Yeah, just got back a bit ago. You?"
"Yup, finally in bed," you said with a sigh. "You think Professor Kim is really gonna hit us with that pop quiz tomorrow? I saw him smiling way too much in class today. Suspicious."
Jungkook chuckled, shaking his head. "He's definitely planning something. That guy enjoys watching us struggle."
You groaned dramatically. "Ugh, I'm so not prepared for that. I barely understood anything from last week's lecture."
"Did you even take notes?" Jungkook teased, knowing full well you tended to zone out in class.
"I did! Sort of...," you trailed off, and he could practically see you rolling your eyes. "I'll just copy yours tomorrow. You've got me, right?"
Jungkook laughed softly, the familiar ease of your conversations calming him down. "Yeah, yeah. I've got you. You always say that and then somehow ace the test anyway."
"Not without your help," you mumbled, and Jungkook could hear you settling deeper into your blankets, your voice getting softer.
"Anyways, you're coming to watch me play tomorrow right?" he perks up, trying to lighten the mood.
"There's no way I'd miss it."
He laughs, suddenly feeling giddy at the prospect of you coming to watch him. "Good, if you didn't come I would be sooo mad at you."
You giggle softly at that idea, Jungkook never gets mad, at least not at you. "Yeah, okay Kook." you teased, but your voice was trailing off, your exhaustion suddenly taking over.
Jungkook notices this, a soft smile playing on his face. "Alright, go to sleep. You're gonna need energy for that test tomorrow."
"Ugh, don't remind me," you mumbled, already half asleep. "Night, Jungkook."
"Night," he replied, waiting until he heard the soft click of the call ending before tossing his phone onto the bed beside him.
The next day, you and Jungkook found yourselves sitting in your usual spots near the back of the classroom, waiting for Professor Kim to start class. The room was buzzing with chatter, students exchanging notes and nervously talking about the possibility of a quiz. You were slouched over your notebook, flipping through pages, trying to cram in last-minute review, while Jungkook sat beside you, far too relaxed for your liking.
"You think we're actually getting that quiz?" you whispered, glancing over at him.
Jungkook smirked, leaning back in his chair with his arms crossed. "Oh, it's not just a quiz," he said, his voice low so only you could hear. "It's a full-on test. I saw him carrying in a stack of papers when I came in."
You groaned, dropping your head dramatically onto your notebook. "I'm so screwed."
Jungkook chuckled, nudging your arm with his elbow. "You should've studied with me."
"Don't even," you muttered, lifting your head just as Professor Kim walked in, shuffling the dreaded stack of test papers in his hands. Your stomach dropped.
"Good morning, class," Professor Kim announced with a suspiciously cheerful tone. "I hope you're all ready for today's test."
You glanced at Jungkook, who gave you a smug look, as if to say I told you so. You shot him a glare in return.
As Professor Kim passed out the tests, Jungkook leaned over slightly. "Just stay calm, Y/N. You'll be fine."
"I'll be calm when this is over," you whispered back, staring at the paper in front of you like it was a death sentence.
The room soon fell silent, except for the occasional shuffling of papers and the soft scratching of pens. You took a deep breath, flipping through the pages of the test, immediately feeling the pressure mount. The first few questions were doable, but by the time you hit the midpoint, it was like the words on the page were written in a foreign language.
You glanced over at Jungkook. He was scribbling away confidently, barely pausing as he moved through the questions with ease. Of course, he looked completely unbothered, like this was just another walk in the park. You could even see the faintest smirk playing on his lips.
Your eyes narrowed, and he must have felt your gaze because he glanced over at you, raising an eyebrow. When he saw the look of panic on your face, his smirk widened, and he gave a subtle shake of his head, clearly amused by your struggle.
You mouthed, "Help me!" exaggerating your expression for effect.
Jungkook chuckled softly, shaking his head again. He leaned slightly closer and whispered under his breath, "Just focus."
You rolled your eyes, going back to your test. But focusing was the last thing you could do. Every time you got stuck on a question, you'd glance over at Jungkook again, and every time, he was still breezing through the test, like he was taking a casual quiz and not a full-blown assessment. It was infuriating.
After a few minutes of watching you squirm, Jungkook finally tilted his paper just slightly, making sure only you could see the edge of it. It wasn't enough to give away the answers, but it was enough to show you the format, which was a tiny bit helpful.
You caught on immediately, shooting him a grateful look. He just winked at you, clearly enjoying the situation way too much.
The rest of the test dragged on painfully, and by the time you reached the last page, your brain felt like mush. Meanwhile, Jungkook had already finished and was lounging back in his chair, stretching lazily as if the test had been no big deal. He shot you another amused glance, raising an eyebrow as if to say, See? Easy.
You were dying to toss something at him.
Finally, Professor Kim called time, and you let out a long breath as you handed in your test. Jungkook was waiting for you at the door, his hands shoved into his pockets, an infuriating grin on his face.
"So," he said casually as you walked out of the classroom together, "how was it?"
You shot him a look. "You're enjoying this way too much."
He chuckled, nudging your shoulder lightly. "Hey, you're the one who didn't study."
"I was going to, but you didn't exactly offer to help," you shot back, still frustrated by how easy it had been for him.
"I told you to stay calm," he said with a playful grin, clearly unfazed by your annoyance.
You groaned again, but even you couldn't stay mad at him for long. It was classic Jungkook—breezing through everything with a smile on his face while you struggled just to keep up. And despite yourself, you couldn't help but laugh a little as the two of you walked down the hallway together.
"Next time, you're helping me study," you declared, glancing up at him.
"Deal," he said, his grin widening. "But only if you promise to take better notes."
You laughed, shaking your head. "I'm starting to think you enjoy watching me suffer."
"Maybe just a little," he teased, his eyes glinting with amusement.
As you and Jungkook made your way down the hall, the usual buzz of campus life surrounded you. Students were rushing between classes, chatting in groups, or buried in their phones, but you were still thinking about the test you'd just barely survived.
Jungkook, of course, was in a good mood, walking beside you with that annoyingly smug look on his face. Just as you were about to tease him about how much he was enjoying your misery, a familiar voice called out.
"Yo, Jungkook! Y/N!" Taehyung appeared, striding toward the two of you, his usual carefree grin plastered on his face. Jimin was right behind him, looking effortlessly cool as always.
"Hey," Jungkook greeted them, stopping in his tracks as they reached you. "What's up?"
Taehyung grinned, leaning against the lockers. "Just heading to class, but I saw you two and figured we'd say hi."
Jimin's eyes landed on you, his gaze lingering for a second longer than usual. He smiled warmly. "Hey, Y/N," he said, his voice smooth. "Heard you had a test, how'd it go?
You sighed dramatically, already feeling the weight of your grade pulling you down. "Oh, it was awful. I know I failed."
Jimin chuckled, stepping a little closer. "Really? I can't imagine you struggling with anything. You probably did better than you think."
You blinked, caught off guard by his words. Jimin was always friendly, but today there was a slight edge to it, something more than the usual casual banter. His eyes flicked to Jungkook briefly before landing back on you.
"I doubt it," you laughed, feeling a little flustered by the compliment. "But thanks for the confidence boost."
Jimin smirked, his eyes still locked on you. "Anytime."
Just then, Taehyung clapped Jungkook on the shoulder. "We're heading to the art building. Where are you guys off to?"
"I'm going to bio," you said, glancing at your phone to check the time. "It's across campus, though."
"I can walk you—" Jungkook starts, your gaze shifting towards him, but he immediately gets interrupted by Jimin's voice.
Jimin perked up, a slight glint of interest in his eyes. "Really? I'm heading that way too. I can walk with you, if you want."
You smiled, appreciating the offer. "Yeah, that'd be nice."
Before you could say anything else, Jungkook, who had been watching the whole exchange, nodded. "Alright, then. You guys go ahead," he said, his tone relaxed. "I'll catch you later, Y/N."
His easygoing attitude surprised you, but you figured he was just in a good mood after breezing through the test. He turned to Taehyung, and the two of them started walking in the opposite direction.
"Bye, Jungkook!" you called, waving after him. He shot you a quick wave without looking back, too busy joking around with Taehyung.
Jimin gave you a nod, gesturing for you to lead the way. "Shall we?"
You began walking at a comfortable pace, a comfortable silence settling down amongst the both of you. Or at least, you didn't mind the silence.
You could feel him glancing towards your face every so often, and when you turned to look, he just smiled innocently, turning his gaze straight ahead.
The silence started to grow awkward, until Jimin cleared his throat, as if preparing to bring up something he'd been thinking about for a while. "So.." he began, "Do you like Jungkook?"
Laughing at the absurdity of that idea, you meet his eyes once more, "What?" you said, your voice still laced with laughter. "No way, Jungkook's just a friend. Why would you ask that?"
Jimin smiled but didn't meet your eyes this time, running a hand through his hair, making him seem both casual but also nervous. "I don't know," he shrugged, he voice growing quieter. "It seems like he has a little crush on you. The way he looks at you, how he's always around you.."
You blinked, the idea catching you completely off guard. "No, me and him are just friends. He's like that with everyone." you replied, shaking your head firmly.
Jimin gave you a knowing smile, his eyes sparkling with amusement. "Is he, though?" his tone was playful, but you suddenly grew irritated. You were sick of people assuming that someone had a crush on the other, or you were dating, when it was clearly not the case.
"He's like a brother to me, Jimin."
He chuckled, his gaze finally locking onto yours, his smile widening as he tilted his head. "A brother, huh?" he questions, never taking his eyes off you.
You scoff, rolling your eyes as you pick up the pace, leaving Jimin a little further behind.
He immediately picks up his pace too, catching back up to you. "Hey, relax, I'll drop it." his hand rests on your shoulder as his playful tone from earlier drops, his voice now laced with sincerity. "I was just joking, Y/N. I didn't mean to offend you."
"I know. I'm not offended." you mumble, trying to appear as unbothered as you can, your hands reaching to fumble with the straps of your bag.
"Okay," his hand drops from your shoulder, resting at his side once again. "Besides, even if Jungkook has a crush, it's not like you don't have other options." He finishes, quite obviously referring to himself.
You laughed again, the annoyance fading away ever so slightly. "I'll keep that in mind, Jimin. But for now I'm happy with being just friends."
He smirked, his eyes twinkling with mischief, "Fair enough. But if you ever change your mind, you know where to find me."
Bio dragged on at a painfully slow pace. The steady tick of the clock became your only focus, each second pulling your attention away from the jumble of textbooks and papers spread across your desk. The classroom was unusually quiet today, so every sound created was amplified; the tapping and clicking of pens, the rustling of sheets of papers, the occasional murmur of whispered conversations.
Your leg bounced restlessly beneath the table, anxiety suddenly overcoming you. Not only were you struggling in chemistry, you were struggling in biology too. Your eyes wandered to the people in the class, who got on with their tasks with ease. Even with a textbook open in front of you, you were confused.
You sighed inwardly, frustration settling in. There's no one else to blame but yourself, of course. After all the times you zoned out in class, and never payed attention, how could you even expect to understand the basics? The realisation hit you like a wave, a reminder that when you go home, you'd have no choice but to study.
Eventually, the hour passed after a long time of blankly staring at the ticking clock. You immediately grabbed a hold of your belongings, stuffing them into your bag and throwing it over your shoulder before exiting the room. You let out a sigh, a yawn escaping your body. Right now, all you wanted to do was take a nap. Luckily for you, it was the end of the day, you could finally leave.
You suddenly felt nauseous, a sickening feeling bubbling within your stomach as you remembered how much you struggled in not one but two classes. The image of your parents disappointment haunted you as you stormed into your locker, yanking it open and tossing your books inside with more force than necessary. You slammed it shut, your frustration rising.
As you did so, Jungkook appeared out of nowhere to the right of your locker, his eyes fixated on you with scrunched up brows.
You sighed again, glancing once towards his face and again towards the exit. Your legs dragged you towards the huge doors, but Jungkook was quick to follow behind you.
"Aren't you forgetting something?" he walks up in front of you, gesturing towards his clothing. You noticed his attire from the morning was discarded, and instead replaced with the jersey he wore during his basketball games.
"Fuck, Kook, I completely forgot." you groaned, gripping your temples in frustration.
"Damn, Y/N. I reminded you everyday for the past week." His tone was serious, but you could catch the hint of a joke laced within his voice as he playfully shook his head.
It didn't take him long to notice your unusual state. Jungkook leaned forward, softly grabbing onto your shoulder with one hand while the other reached up to your cheek, gently rubbing his thumb across. "Whats wrong? You okay?" he asks, concern laced across his features.
"Nothing, I'm just tired." you admitted, although it wasn't the whole truth, it was still something.
His eyes look over your face, studying you. His hands now firmly rested on your shoulders. "You're a bad liar, Y/N. What happened? And tell me the truth."
"It's dumb."
"It's about that test, isn't it?"
You blinked in surprise. How did he know? You nodded.
"I'm sure you didn't do that bad," he reassured, squeezing your shoulders gently. "You're smart, Y/N. Cheer up." he playfully patted your cheeks, causing you to stifle a laugh, a smile forming on your face.
"Do you wanna go home?" he asked, his voice softening, a slight frown tugging at the corner of his lips.
"Well yes, but I wanna watch you play more." you say as his hands tuck a stray strand of hair behind your ear. You noticed his expression brighten just a little at your words.
He grinned, moving to the side and ruffling your hair, messing it up again before then slinging an arm over your shoulder. "Come on then, we don't have much time," he says. "I'll win for you, don't worry."
You round the corner and make your way onto the court, where people are already seated and the teams are coming out of their rooms.
"JK, we're on, hurry up!" a voice calls, presumably another one of his members, he lets go of you and tells you to take a seat before running off into the court, but you don't miss how he looks towards you whenever he can, sending a smile your way, as if to make sure you were okay.
The game was intense from the start. The gym echoed with the sounds of sneakers squeaking against polished floors, the thud of the basketball hitting the court, and the excited cheers from the crowd. You sat in the bleachers, your bag shoved under your seat, feeling oddly at ease despite the earlier stress.
You found yourself sitting next to a girl who had been at the game last week, her face vaguely familiar. She wore a jersey that wasn't quite Jungkook's team colors, but she cheered loudly every time the ball changed hands.
"Hey, didn't I see you here last time?" she asked, leaning over slightly to talk. Her voice was warm, friendly, like someone who just knew how to make conversations less awkward.
"Yeah, probably," you said with a small smile, glancing at her. "I try to come to most of Jungkook's games."
"Ah, you're here for JK?" Her eyebrows raised, and there was a playful lilt to her voice. "Friend, girlfriend, or just a fan?"
"Friend," you clarified, though the heat rising to your cheeks betrayed the simplicity of that label.
She laughed, a soft chuckle that wasn't mocking but understanding. "Got it. I'm Soojin, by the way. I come to watch my cousin—he's on the other team, but don't tell anyone." She mimed zipping her lips.
You laughed a little at that. "I'm Y/N. Nice to meet you."
As the game went on, you and Soojin fell into a comfortable rhythm of conversation, punctuated by bursts of cheering and groaning whenever something exciting happened on the court. She was quick-witted and easy to talk to, and for the first time all day, you felt yourself genuinely relaxing.
"Okay, but Jungkook's insane, right?" Soojin said during a timeout, gesturing toward the court where Jungkook was wiping his face with a towel. "The way he just—" she mimicked a crossover dribble and a jump shot, "makes it look so effortless. Honestly, I'd trip over my own feet trying to do half of that."
You laughed, nodding. "Yeah, he's pretty crazy. He's been like that since we met, though. He's good at everything... it's honestly annoying sometimes."
Soojin raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "You guys must be close, huh? That's cute. So, what's it like having Jeon Jungkook as your personal hype man?"
You rolled your eyes, but you couldn't stop the small smile from forming. "It's chaotic, to say the least. He's super competitive, even outside of basketball. One time, we had this dumb bet over who could eat more tteokbokki, and—"
"Wait, let me guess," Soojin interrupted, grinning. "He demolished you, didn't he?"
You shook your head, laughing. "Nope. He thought he could out-eat me, but I totally won. He ended up lying on the floor groaning about how he was 'never eating again.'"
Soojin laughed so hard she nearly spilled her drink. "That's amazing. He doesn't seem like the type to lose, especially at something like that."
"Oh, trust me," you said, leaning in conspiratorially. "He's not. He demanded a rematch a week later. Still lost, though."
The two of you dissolved into laughter, the tension of your earlier frustration completely forgotten. You were so caught up in the moment that you almost didn't notice when the crowd suddenly erupted into cheers.
The score was neck-and-neck, and every pass, dribble, and shot was met with thunderous applause or groans of disappointment. You found yourself leaning forward, completely absorbed in the game despite your earlier indifference.
With less than a minute left on the clock, Jungkook's team had the ball. The crowd was on its feet, chanting and clapping as he darted past defenders with effortless precision. You held your breath as he leapt for a three-pointer just as the buzzer sounded.
The ball arced beautifully through the air before sinking through the net with a satisfying swish. The gym erupted into cheers, the sound deafening as Jungkook's teammates swarmed him in celebration. He raised his arms in victory, then turned toward the stands, his eyes locking onto yours. He didn't just smile this time—he winked.
"Oh my god," Soojin said, clutching her chest dramatically. "That was smooth. I'm swooning, and it wasn't even aimed at me. Are you sure you're just friends? Because the way he keeps looking at you..."
You shook your head, laughing but feeling that familiar warmth creep up your neck again. "He's so extra sometimes."
"Extra? Girl, that was a whole movie moment," Soojin countered. "You should be flattered."
At that moment, Jungkook jogged over to the sidelines, drenched in sweat but beaming with pride. He waved at you as he approached, clearly pleased with himself.
"Well? What'd you think?" he asked, leaning on the railing in front of the bleachers.
"You were decent," you said, trying to sound unimpressed.
"Decent?" he repeated, his eyes narrowing in mock offense. "That was a game-winning three-pointer. You should be bowing down right now."
"Don't push your luck, Kook," you teased, though your grin gave you away.
"You did okay," Soojin chimed in, smirking. "But I think Y/N's still more impressed by the tteokbokki story."
Jungkook frowned, his ears turning slightly pink. "You told her about that?"
"Of course," you said, laughing. "It's one of my best Jungkook stories."
He groaned, covering his face with his hands. "Great. Now she thinks I'm a loser."
"Not at all," Soojin said, winking at you. "It's kind of endearing, actually."
Jungkook peeked through his fingers, narrowing his eyes suspiciously at the two of you. "Y/N, let's go before you embarrass me further."
You laughed, grabbing your bag and standing up. "Fine, fine. See you around, Soojin."
"Definitely," she said, giving you a knowing smile. "Oh, and Jungkook?"
"Yeah?" he said, pausing mid-step.
"Good game," she said, grinning. "But maybe work on that tteokbokki endurance."
Jungkook groaned again, dragging you toward the exit as you burst into laughter.
The cool evening air hit your face as you both left the gym, a refreshing contrast to the warmth of the crowded court. Jungkook still looked a little flustered, though he tried to play it cool, brushing a hand through his damp hair.
"I can't believe you told her about the tteokbokki thing," he muttered, shaking his head.
You smirked, bumping his arm lightly. "Oh, come on, it's a great story. Besides, you challenged me. What did you expect? For me to lose gracefully?"
"Gracefully? I expected you to lose, period," he quipped, shooting you a playful glare. "But apparently, you're hiding a black hole for a stomach. It's unfair."
He grumbled, but the corner of his mouth twitched upward in a reluctant smile. "Anyway, who was she? You seemed pretty chummy with her for someone you just met."
"Her name's Soojin. She's here to watch her cousin—apparently, he's on the other team. She's nice, though. Funny, too."
Jungkook shot you a look, his brows furrowing. "Wait, hold on. You were sitting next to someone rooting for the other team? And you didn't fight her?"
You snorted. "What am I supposed to do? Start a bleacher brawl? She wasn't obnoxious or anything. Plus, she said you're good. So, technically, she's on your side."
"She said that?" Jungkook perked up, his chest puffing out a little. "Well, I mean, she's not wrong."
You rolled your eyes. "Don't let it go to your head, Jeon."
The two of you strolled toward the bike racks, where Jungkook had locked up his old, slightly scuffed-up mountain bike. He grabbed his bag, slinging it over his shoulder, then paused, looking at you thoughtfully.
"You sure you're okay?" he asked, his voice gentler now. "You seemed a little off earlier. Was it the test?"
The concern in his eyes made your stomach flip, and you hesitated for a moment before shrugging. "Yeah, the test sucked, and so did bio. I'll survive, though. No big deal."
Jungkook frowned, clearly not buying it. "Y/N, if it's stressing you out, let's do something about it. I'm serious."
You raised an eyebrow, smirking. "What, you're going to tutor me? You don't even know the difference between mitosis and meiosis."
"Hey," he protested, feigning offense. "I could learn! For you, anyway." He tilted his head, studying your face. "But right now, I'm thinking food might help more than biology. You eaten yet?"
Your stomach growled in response, betraying you instantly. Jungkook's grin widened.
"Thought so," he said. "Come on, let's go get something."
"Now? Aren't you supposed to celebrate with your team or something?"
"Celebrate what? Another win? Boring," he said, waving it off. "Besides, I'd rather hang out with you. Let's go."
Before you could argue, he unlocked his bike and gestured for you to hop onto the back. "I'll give you a ride."
"You're kidding," you said, eyeing the bike skeptically.
"Do I look like I'm kidding? Come on, I've done this a million times."
Reluctantly, you climbed onto the back, holding onto his shoulders for balance. "If I fall and break something, I'm suing you."
Jungkook laughed, his voice full of mischief. "Relax. I'm a pro."
Minutes later, you found yourself seated at a small street food stand, the warm glow of hanging lights illuminating the bustling night market. The smell of grilled meat, savory pancakes, and spicy tteokbokki filled the air, making your mouth water.
Jungkook ordered for both of you, insisting he knew the best dishes. When the food arrived, he slid a steaming plate of tteokbokki toward you with a smirk. "Round two?"
You burst out laughing. "You're kidding."
"Dead serious," he said, picking up a piece with his chopsticks and holding it out to you. "Unless you're scared?"
"You wish," you shot back, leaning in to take the bite. The spicy-sweet sauce burst across your taste buds, and you couldn't help the satisfied hum that escaped. "Okay, this is really good."
"Told you," Jungkook said, grabbing a bite for himself. "But don't get too comfortable. I'm winning this time."
The two of you dug in, the conversation flowing as easily as the food disappeared. Jungkook was in his element, cracking jokes and teasing you relentlessly, but there was a warmth beneath his playful banter that made your heart flutter.
At one point, he leaned in closer, his dark eyes catching yours in the soft light. "You know, I like this. Just... hanging out. No stress, no tests. Just us."
You felt your cheeks heat up, but you managed a teasing grin. "Are you getting sentimental on me, Jeon?"
"Maybe," he admitted, his smile turning softer. "What can I say? You bring it out of me."
For a moment, the world around you seemed to fade, the noise of the market dimming as you held his gaze. Then Jungkook broke the spell with a sudden grin. "But I'm still beating you at this tteokbokki challenge. Watch."
"Dream on," you said, laughing as you picked up another piece. The night stretched on, the stress of the day forgotten as you and Jungkook filled it with laughter, teasing, and just a hint of something more.
As the night wore on, the little food stall grew quieter, but your laughter with Jungkook only got louder. He was in rare form, his wit sharp, his expressions dramatic. Every time he popped another piece of tteokbokki into his mouth, he acted like it was some Herculean feat, groaning as though the spice might defeat him.
"You're such a baby," you teased, shaking your head. "It's not that spicy."
"Oh, says the queen of spice tolerance," he shot back, his voice muffled as he reached for his drink. "Not all of us are walking fire-breathing dragons."
"Dragons are cool," you said with a shrug. "Take it as a compliment."
He leaned forward, resting his chin on his hand, his dark eyes sparkling with amusement. "You know, Y/N, you've got a weird way of flirting."
Your chopsticks froze mid-air, and you nearly choked on your own saliva. "Flirting?" you sputtered, your voice jumping an octave. "Who said I was flirting?"
"Not me," he said smoothly, a teasing smirk playing on his lips. "But if you were, it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world."
You stared at him, trying to gauge if he was being serious or just messing with you. His expression gave nothing away, though the slight tilt of his head and the way his gaze lingered on your face made your heart race.
"Well, don't hold your breath," you shot back, trying to sound unaffected. "You're not that special."
"Ouch," he said, clutching his chest dramatically. "Here I am, taking you out, feeding you, carrying this entire night with my charm, and this is the thanks I get?"
"Carrying the night?" You snorted. "You're delusional. If anything, I'm the one entertaining you."
He grinned, leaning back in his chair as if to concede. "Fine, we'll call it even. But seriously," his tone softened, his playful demeanor giving way to something more sincere. "I'm glad we did this. You seemed so stressed earlier, and it's nice to see you smiling again."
You felt a pang of warmth at his words, his genuine concern breaking through the teasing façade. "Thanks, Kook. I needed this," you admitted, surprising even yourself with how honest you sounded.
"Well, you've got me," he said, shrugging like it was the most obvious thing in the world. "Whenever you need to forget about the world—or just eat your weight in tteokbokki—I'm your guy."
You smiled, unable to help the way your heart seemed to flip at his words. "Careful, Jeon. You keep saying sweet things like that, and people might think you're trying to charm me."
"Trying?" He raised an eyebrow, leaning forward again with a wicked grin. "Y/N, I don't need to try."
The heat in your cheeks betrayed you, but you refused to let him see you flustered. "Wow, your confidence is unmatched. Maybe you should focus less on flirting and more on finishing your plate," you said, gesturing to the food in front of him.
He laughed, grabbing his chopsticks again. "Fine, but don't think you're off the hook. I'm keeping track of how much you've eaten. We're still in competition mode."
"Oh, please. I already won," you retorted, taking another bite to prove your point.
The banter carried on, light and easy, as the plates slowly emptied. By the time the last piece of tteokbokki was gone, you both leaned back in your chairs, letting out identical groans of satisfaction.
"I think I've reached my limit," you said, patting your stomach dramatically. "I might actually regret this tomorrow."
"Regret?" Jungkook scoffed, reaching for his drink. "This is the opposite of regret. This is living." He took a sip, eyeing you with a teasing grin. "Admit it—you're impressed by my ability to pick the perfect late-night spot."
You gave him a look, smirking. "Impressed? Not quite. But I'll give you points for good taste."
"Wow, tough crowd," he said, shaking his head with mock disappointment. "Fine, next time, you pick the place. But don't forget, you owe me now."
"I owe you?" you asked, raising an eyebrow. "For what, exactly?"
"For saving you from your stress-induced meltdown," he replied with a grin. "And for treating you to this gourmet feast."
You rolled your eyes but couldn't stop the smile creeping onto your face. "Fine. I guess I do owe you. But don't let it go to your head, Jeon."
"It's already there," he said, tapping the side of his head.
The two of you stood, Jungkook grabbing the tray of empty plates to return to the stall owner. As he turned back to you, his hoodie sleeves pushed up to reveal his forearms, he cocked his head slightly.
"You good to walk home, or do you need me to carry you?" he teased, but his voice held a hint of genuine concern.
"I can manage," you replied, brushing off his offer.
"Sure about that?" he asked, stepping closer with a playful grin. "You look like you're one wrong step away from rolling down the street."
You smacked his arm lightly, laughing. "Don't push your luck."
The two of you started down the street, the cool breeze brushing against your skin. The city had quieted down, leaving only the faint hum of streetlights and the occasional distant chatter of other late-night diners.
"You're not in a rush to get back, are you?" Jungkook asked casually, glancing over at you.
You shook your head. "Not really. Why?"
He hesitated for a second, then shrugged. "Figured you might want to hang out a little longer. My place isn't far from here."
Your heart skipped at the casual invitation, though he said it as if it were the most natural thing in the world. "Your place?"
"Yeah," he said, his tone light but his gaze steady. "It's nothing fancy, but I've got snacks, a comfy couch, and a killer view from the balcony. You can unwind for a bit before heading home."
You hesitated, glancing up at him. There was no pressure in his expression, just a quiet sincerity that made it impossible to say no.
"Okay," you said finally, smiling. "Lead the way, Jeon."
His grin widened, and he reached out, giving your hand a quick tug to follow him. "Prepare to be amazed. Or, you know, mildly impressed."

yandere wonder woman headcanons
diana prince x reader
tw // people pleasing, manipulation, usual yandere stuff, lasso of truth being used to interrogate/misused
big buff girls pls hmu ;) jk.... unless
missss diana prince i love you sooo much
wonder woman is known as a compassionate hero that values the truth (ive been reading the comics guys im so smart 😊) (ngl finding good comics for my girl was hard so rec me some pls)
shes kind, caring, so incredibly empathetic
she’s stubborn, reckless, and a hardcore people pleaser (shes just like me fr!!)
the first time diana prince meets you was a complete accident. she was running after a getaway car when she spots you. headphones in, attention completely on your phone. with another burst of energy, she launches herself in front of the car, one arm out to protect you and another arm to stop it completely. you can’t move frozen in fear as the car smashed into her arm, almost . you were pulled into her arms without a second thought.
“are you alright?” her face was overcome with worry.
you break down into sobs, “thank you. thank you. thank you” you bury your face into her shoulder
in that moment, all diana wanted to do was take you away from all of it. your touch on her skin felt like holy fire. you were angelic.
from then on, you saw her every day. first at a coffee shop, then at the grocery story, then at your work, then in front of your house. she wouldn’t pretend like she didn’t see you. no secret stalking. she would come up to you, ask you how you are and ask you about your day. to you diana became one of your closest friends. to diana , you were the one.
one day, she’ll tell you that she’s in love with you
“(y/n), i must confess something to you.” she turns to you on the couch.
you look over at her and she almost melts, “what’s up, di?”
she takes a deep breath, “i like you.”
“oh.” she stares at you, waiting for more. “diana, i’m not sure how i… feel about you.” you try to let her down easy, but she grabs your hands.
“(y/n), everything about you makes my heart stop. i wait with bated breath for any word from you. i would give you my soul if you asked. i love you.” diana got closer to you as she spoke. you try to inch away, but her grip on your hands were too strong. guilt swims as your mind processed her words. “please don’t say no. i love you, (y/n). i would do anything to prove it.”
you let out a breath, “maybe let’s go on a date first?” you see her eyes light up and you smile, happy to make her happy.
you keep going on dates with her becuz u didn’t want to upset her and she seems so sincere with her feelings
dates to dating to engaged to married
at the end of the day…. ur a people pleaser just like her
she would do anything for u babes like… anything
the emotional manipulation, the gaslighting, diana takes it to the MAX
she knows you would fold if she pressures u enough
shes so mother, mommy, wife, mother of my children
she babies you
like a lot
yk that post i made earlier about genius yanderes or wtv? its like that
she doesn’t trust u to do anything
treats u like a grown child
but its cuz she loves you!!!!
if you decide enough is enough and that u don’t want to get involved romantically…
“you’re lying to me.” diana’s eyes were fierce as she glares at you. it hadn’t gone too far but as she led you to the bedroom, pressing sweet kisses to your neck, you knew you had to tell her.
“i’m sorry, diana. i don’t like you like that. you’re my best friend. i just… didn’t want to lose you.” you were sobbing as you sat on the edge of the bed, head in your hands.
“all these months… you had been LYING TO ME?” with one push to your shoulders, you land flat on the bed. she straddles your hips, hands pushing your shoulders into the bed. you feel her hands tighten.
“please, diana, i’m sorry.” you choke out a sob. she lets go of your shoulders before leaning back to sit on your hips. you take in deep breathes as she shakes her head.
“no no no. you’re lying.” her eyes looked crazed and you don’t respond, fearing her strength. she starts to laugh. “you love me, i know it. the truth will prevail.” she states, she gets off of you. you sit up, afraid to move. you see her grab her lasso.
“diana, don’t you dare.” you try to move, but with one quick whip, her lasso had looped itself around you. you were trapped. “diana, don’t do this please.” you beg.
“what is your name.” diana’s eyes were cold, as she interrogated you.
“(y/n).” you can feel the words tumble out of your mouth.
“where are you.”
“in your bedroom.”
“do you love me, diana of themyscira.” you try to keep your words in, fighting the lasso. you know she would twist your words. “DO YOU LOVE ME, (Y/N). YES OR NO.”
“yes.” you sob as the word gets ripped out of you. the lasso loosens.
she wraps you into a hug. “i knew it. i knew it. i know you love me. i don’t understand why you’re fighting, (y/n), but we will figure this out. together.” she smiles at you, tears streaming down her face. you don’t respond and she presses a kiss to your lips.
i need her so bad guys i want a big buff gf soo bad i want u diana prince

was it so casual to you?
pairing: choi yeonjun x reader.
warnings: none…? its a bit suggestive but youll live, uhh, angst angst
word count: 1.0k :p
NOW PLAYING: casual by chappell roan🎵
a casual night out for you consists of being with yeonjun.
someone you dont want to keep seeing but you always find yourself driving over to his place, sometimes even in the car with him as he picked u up.
and here u are, strapping your bra back on in the backseat of his car.
his hands remaining on your body, not going anywhere. you were used to his warm touch, but sometimes it felt different. like today, something felt.. off.
he seems to take note of your odd expression and spoke up.
“whats up..?” he sits up, getting closer to your face as he tucks your hair behind your ear.
“nothing.” he stares into your eyes for a moment, as if he knows youre lying.
“okay.” he kisses your cheek. normally this would make u happy, you would smile brightly but after finding out what hes been saying… you werent so happy anymore.
you bit your lip to contain yourself from saying anything else.
it was quiet the ride back to the dorms, you both felt the awkwardness albeit still didnt speak up. the only noise you found comfort in was the rain. you looked out the window admiring the falling rain.
he stops in front of your dorm building. you dreaded the idea of walking into your dorm after hanging out with him, knowing your roommate will be disappointed.
all of your friends have told you how much he was a bad guy. you didnt listen.
you clear your throat and open the car door, hesitating to look at him. “ill see you later.”
he wanted to tell you something but you had already closed the door and gone to walk inside.
“y/n.” your roommate greets you as you walk into your dorm and lay against the closed door.
“i hate myself for letting this drag on for so long.” your voice starts to quiver as tears start to fall. you slid down the door as hugged your legs.
your roommate immediately goes to comfort you.
“its hard being casual.”
your roommate pats your back, hugs you, does anything to comfort you. she makes you stand up and sit on the bed. she wipes your tears before going to her phone to text all of your other friends.
“im convinced he put you under a spell or something.” she laughs awkwardly trying to lighten the mood.
you stay quiet before the door slams open.
“y/n. are you okay? did he say thing to hurt you? ill set his dorm on fire i dont care.” your friend, hanni, immediately goes up to you.
“im fine, hanni.”
“thats bs girl.” she sighs as she examines you as if you were sick. “its gonna be okay.”
“y/n, i know youre gonna hate me for saying this but you need to talk to him.” danielle chines in, she looks at you with empathy.
“ill think about it.”
-
“y/n!” yeonjun calls out. its been a week since u last saw him. you ignored him hoping he would take the hint.
he didnt.
he ran and stood in front of you to stop you from walking. “you havent been answering my texts.. or calls.. are you ignoring me..?”
you sigh, trying to look for a way out of this conversation.
“lets talk about it later.”
“talk about what?” there was silence. “y/n?..”
“later, yeonjun.” you walk off, looking at people whispering about your interaction with yeonjun just now.
-
as you were walking to your dorm you noticed him standing right infront of your door. you wished you could have turned around and left. but you knew you couldnt avoid this any longer.
“y/n!” his face lights up a bit. making your heart clench.
you dont reply and just open the door to your dorm. you knew your roommates werent going to be there for anytime soon. it was the perfect time.. to talk.
you silently invited him in and he obliged.
the moment he closed the door, his hands went straight to your waist, leaving kisses on your neck.
“no, yeonjun.” you politely shove him off you.
“whats up with you!?”
“whats up with me?! me?!?” you scoff stare at him, shaking your head.
“you said no attachment, yeonjun. why are we doing this?” you look him in the eye, waiting for a response.
“y/n.. i..”
“what, yeonjun? am i not ‘just a girl you bang on your couch’? hm?” his eyebrows furrow. he didnt know you had found out about the things he was saying.
“say something, yeonjun.”
“im sorry.”
“thats all you have to say?” you scoff. taking deep breaths. “after you told me ‘we’re not together.’ what were we then? friends with benefits? what?”
he stayed there silent. he didnt know what to say.
“i hate you, yeonjun.”
“y/n wait.. hear me out.”
“no?! why should i? you kept acting like we were dating, but then you go on dates with other girls? kissing them, buying them gifts…”
he licks his lips. he had been caught.
“we’ve been doing this for how long, yeonjun..? ive met your family.. your friends.. all for nothing.”
“but i do like you, y/n..”
“clearly not enough.”
there was more slience.
“was it so casual to you..?”
“it wasnt! no trust me, y/n.”
“stop lying, yeonjun. i know everything.” you finally had enough of him.
“just go, yeonjun. dont ever contact me ever again. i dont want to see you ever again. get out.”
“wait y/n please.” he pleads.
“get out.” tears start flowing, yeonjun felt the need to hold you close to comfort you but he knew you wouldnt want that. from him atleast.
he took one last good look at you. taking in all your beautiful features. before walking out never speaking to u ever again.
it was.

❄︎ all characters are 19+ y/n being 20, second female character being 19, and male character being 21, contains swearing and mentions of violence ❄︎
𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝟐...
The door to your childhood home flung open, throwing your keys on the kitchen counter you threw your shoes off and closed the entrance behind you.
“Aye why the hell you makin allat noise in my house baby girl?” your bald daddy asked you, setting aside his newspaper and putting his feet on the coffee table infront of him that was used for everything but coffee. The tears were already rushing down your flushed face, hands shaking as you found yourself trying to hold onto his shoulders for balance from behind the couch he sat now disturbed and concerned.
“Hey hey- whats wrong who did this to you?” his paternal instinct kicking in, “This aint about dat boy fat headed ass boy because if it is- Ima shoo-“
You interrupted
“Daddy its about him and your horrible daughter that you n mommy spoiled rotten who think shes obligated to have everything I got when i barely got any-fucking-thing myself. She just fucked up my relationship and ion know what else to do like..” you paused to catch your breath, in attempt to calm yourself down, you only created more noice and panic as anxiety settled in.
It felt as if the world was moving at 300 frames per second and everything was overwhelming. Your eldest brother sensed the drama in the living room and exited out of his own. I swear when it came to people business he found it with ease like a rat with cheese. But after seeing his little sister who claimed “thugs dont cry” practically bawling in fetal position next to your father in the couch, he couldnt help but mind your business. You are his business.
“The fuck am I hearing about Nataly?” He asked? “Bro that bitch cheated on ME fuck the nigga at this point with my boyfriend.”Anger settled into your bones as you called your mother to air out her business, hoping the family would judge her the way they did you all the times you made the same mistakes that she did.
“Yo ma” you answered calming down slightly, playing with your leggings, “Whats wrong im at work.” her phone propped up to see your beautiful but upset face, “Que pasa mí amor?” she asked, her once typing fingers stopped moving as she focused her attention on you.
“You’re daughter’s a slut. Caught her ass fucking my boyfriend.”
“Well thats your little sister…its wrong but she is still your sister.”
“WHATCHU MEAN SHE’S STILL MY SISTER? You dont see anything remotely wrong with what she did????” You asked at this point begging for empathy.
“Yes but-“
“Nah forget it she prolly got that cheating shit from you thats why daddy left your ass now.”
The “dun dun” of the now ended FaceTime was the only noise that filled the quiet room..your father started blankly at you.
.. “How did you know .. you kids were never supposed to know?” he whispered, almost as if he was still trying to save the secret, to keep it in Pandora’s box.
“Close your mouth before a fly goes up in there Lachlan.. I seen a video of her and her side nigga in her phone when i was younger..”
“NAHHHH THIS SHIT IS NEWS TO ME FUCK U MEAN MA CHEATED?? I just thought the d was not fire..” Lachlan now yelled, no longer trying to control his temper, disbelief and confusion.
But just like that, your relationship with your mother’s side of the family, and your sister was practically done for, until familiar footsteps entered the household.
Oh so now everybody and they mother wanna pull up today huh?

Take A Break (pt. 1 of ?)
Pairing: none in this specific part, but eventual BillFiddlesFord/Doomed Polycule/Cursed Love Triangle/whatever it is we're calling this Word Count: 1,251 Warnings: Bill's a little shit, will probably get worse as this goes on, but I'm aiming for as healthy of a relationship as this can be. Eventually. I'm also playing extremely fast and loose with canon, so don't think too hard about it. :)
these absolute buffoons have been plaguing my every waking moment. i HAD to write something. enjoy!
Winter in Oregon was unbearable. It didn't matter how many layers Fiddleford buried himself in, how close he was to the fire, or how much soup and hot chocolate he consumed. He was freezing.
Ford had been busy with the portal as per usual, and while he hadn't missed Christmas per se, the holiday was glossed over. Fidds had spent months on those gloves. He'd also gotten chewed over the phone so harshly for forgetting his wife's present (a mistake he needed to type into the memory gun soon) that the chill in his body wasn't solely from the weather. He had to figure something out with Emma May or he'd lose her, too.
Not that Ford was lost. He was just.. distant. Talking to himself in all hours of the night. Muttering about equations and theories and designs…and Bill.
Bill. What a character. Fidds had left his wife and children for Ford, and yet Ford would rather gallivant with a triangle (???) than spare him a second thought. Whether demonic manipulation had its role or Ford really was just that emotionally ignorant, Fidds was on the backburner. Had been for a while.
He heaved a sigh into his mug. It wouldn't be so bad if he could just get to know Bill. Ford trusted anyone that could stroke his ego, bless him, but Fidds was more calculated than that. That and, well, Bill was a demon. But surely not all demons are bad. Right? If Ford could put so much trust in him, then surely Fidds could give him a chance.
That settled it. Fidds would march down to the basement and talk to that triangle. In the morning. When he felt like getting out of his bundle of blankets.
~~~
Ford cleared his throat as he gave Fidds a worried glance. “You want to talk to Bill?”
Fidds could feel himself break into a cold sweat. “I-If that’s possible, then yes.”
“I don’t know if that’s a good idea…” Ford trailed, rubbing the back of his neck and looking towards the floor. His eyes fluttered closed for a moment, and when they opened again they looked almost pained.
“What’s the matter with you?” Fidds asked, crossing his arms. “You’re ramblin’ about this demon all the live-long day, but when I wanna properly meet ‘im, I can’t get a word outta you.”
“It’s not that simple, Fidds, he–” Ford shook his head. “I don’t want him to hurt you.”
“I can handle a few mean jabs, Ford, been doin’ it my whole life.”
“That’s not what I meant and you know it.” Ford’s gaze pinned Fidds to the floor.
“Talk to me, Ford.”
“I can’t.”
“Yes, you can!” Fidds exclaimed. “I’ve been–You–” With a harsh sigh, Fidds pressed a hand to his shaking head. “Y’know Ford, I’ve staked a lot to be out here with you. My career and my marriage for starters. But–”
“And I can’t thank you enough for that, Fidds–”
“Ford.”
The air went quiet for a moment, the pair stewing in the tension, before Fidds continued.
“But…Here lately, you’re spendin’ all your time with this Bill character, and I don’t even know what he looks like! I just wanna know who the mysterious third gear in this machine is, so I can learn to trust ‘im, and everything can go back to whatever our definition of normal is. And if that don’t convince you, then, I’m sorry, Ford, but I don’t know if I can keep doin’ this.”
Ford’s eyes lit up in a panic as he rushed forward and took Fidds’ shoulders in his hands. “No, no no, Fidds, you don’t understand. I need you. I need you here, for this project, for my sanity. My Muse is patient, and I’m forever grateful, but if you don’t help me, then…then…”
At the pause, Fidds gently murmured, “Ford?”
“It’s nothing. Never mind.”
“Ford!”
The scientist straightened his posture and turned back towards the portal, his hand covering his mouth. With a shaky exhale, he dropped his hand back to his side and cleared his throat. Fidds just stood, baffled at his friend’s actions, mouth agape. The air remained thick with tension as Fidds nervously played with a loose string on his sleeve. He cleared his throat, turning to go back upstairs.
“I’m worried for you, Stanford. Maybe it’s time to take a good, long break from this project, come back to the real world for a bit. We can go visit Emma May,” Fidds’ voice caught on the name, but he cleared his throat to continue, “or maybe try to find out where your brother’s been. Just…don’t shut me out. Please.”
By the time Ford turned around to answer, Fidds had already gone up the stairs and closed the door behind him.
~~~~
“Well, well, well, Sixer,” Bill cooed, kicking his feet behind him playfully. “You’ve got ol’ Fiddlesticks whipped for you.”
Ford had fallen asleep in the basement again, which was never good for his back, but he couldn’t bother to face Fidds after their conversation earlier. Maybe he was right. Maybe it was time to take a break.
“It isn’t like that,” Ford muttered, pouring over the pages in his mind that he would have to copy into his journal later.
“Coulda fooled me! You should have seen the eyes he was giving you before he went upstairs. Talk about desperate.” Bill spoke as he folded his arms behind his head, swimming through the air. “And that speech you gave about ‘needing him,’ gross. You don’t need him. You need me. You can always find another–”
Ford snapped his book shut and slammed it on the desk. “He is just as important to me as any other part of this project.”
“Any other part?” Bill’s eye narrowed.
Swallowing thickly, Ford tried to think of the best way to backpedal out of this bordering-on-dangerous conversation. “I’m not a machinist. You’re not…You can’t be here until the portal’s built. Without him, the whole plan falls to pieces.”
“I dunno, Sixer, it sounds like you’re putting that hillbilly hick on a pedestal far too tall for his own good.” The demon brought a hand up to Ford’s chin, grasping it firmly and bringing the focus back to him. “He’s not your Muse, is he?”
“Of course not–”
“Maybe I should pay him a visit. He’s sleeping so peacefully. It wouldn’t be hard. Maybe I can be his Muse, give you a taste of what it’s like to be alone since you seem to have forgotten what it was like before me.” With each sentence, Bill’s hold grew tighter. “As a matter of fact, Sixer, I think I will give him the conversation he so desperately craves.”
Ford clamped his lips together, his eyes pleading for Bill not to go through with it, but knowing better than to argue with his beloved Muse. The demon’s eye twitched in a way that meant he was smiling, at least as far as Ford could tell, before patting the scientist’s cheek.
“I love when you look at me like that,” Bill murmured. “Like there’s nothing else in the world. Exactly as it should be. But! Very naughty pet human. I need to go see ol’ Fiddlesticks so you don’t get any ideas in the future.”
“My Muse, please, don’t hurt him.”
Bill pressed a hand to his bowtie and scoffed dramatically. “I would never hurt my pet’s favorite toy, and I’m offended that you think I would. Anyway, sleep tight, Sixer! See you soon.”

A Lovers' Circle (Poly Haishira x Reader) Ch4 Meet Up
The sounds of gunshots filled the air as sulfur smoke filled the air with it's foul stench.
The monster crawling forward with each sinister clacking of its jaws as it's bones popped with every movement it made, protruding almost disgustingly from under it's disturbingly sickly purple skin as blackened eyes shifted around it's lizard like snout. Drool ran off in thick globs from protruding fangs waiting to rip flesh from bones as foul breath cascaded out with each puff of hellish air it took.
The man's heart pounded away in his chest as panic fogged his mind. Teeth biting his lips to keep any whimpered from escaping and giving away his hiding place behind the once nice labs vending machine. The shaking of his hands threatening to shoot off the hand pistol in their grip and either killing him or giving away his position as the scraping claws of the creature's footfalls getting closer and closer. Stopping right behind the machine and letting silence reign supreme.
He trembled and shook as his eyes full of fear turned to the side of the machine he laid again. Head edging further towards the corner. Just enough to peek out. The orbs widened as they came face to face with-
"...Well? What happened next?!"
"C'mon, Tengen. Stop stalling already! Did he get eaten or not?"
Dark magenta eyes crinkled as a wide smile perked up to the four people in front of him. Looking eager to hear from him what happened next. If there was one thing that he was, it was a flashy story teller.
He shrugged. "No one's knows. When the police finally got to the lab the next day, there was no trace of him except for a broken pair of glasses covered in animal drool. To this very day the mystery has never been solved, but they say that the monster still roams the nearby forest looking for new victims. Others say that on the anniversary of his death, if you cross by the old lab abandoned on the hill, you can still hear the professor crying out the last anguish cries of his untimely demise- RAH!!"
There was screams as he rushed forward arms out and easily caught all three of the smaller women in his arms as they continued to shriek and squirm in his strong hold but unable to escape the puckered lips and lips sending rapid fire kisses to the squirming women in his hold.
"Dammit, Tengen! That wasn't funny-!" A woman with orange eyes was caught off mid berating when lips met hers in a quick kiss.
"I know.~ It's perfect." A sigh left his lips as he buried himself into their grip leaning back on the sofa and making them cuddle with him. "You all are perfect.~ It's been too long since I got to hold all of you in my arms. I should just stop going to classes and do this all day."
A small hand pushed his face away from them with a whine as pink eyes rolls. "You are not going to drop classes in the middle of the semester. What would everyone think if you just gave up?"
"SHE'S ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! You shouldn't give up on yourself like that!!"
The magenta eyes rolled but he didn't do anything but go back to cuddling the three women in his arms with a content sigh. This was the best night of his entire week. After days of stressful classes, and dealing with his ass of a brother, having a date night with his beautiful wives and husband was just what the doctor ordered. Give him what he had tonight. A free show, home cooked dinner, and getting to tease around with the most beautiful people in the world. Just him and his wives and their husba-
A soft humming sound shattered the happy silence as his groaned.
"Great timing."
"Tengen, you're phone is ringing. Aren't you going to get that?"
"Nope!" He snuggled closer into their warmth preferring the sweet scents of mixed perfumes they wore. "It's our day off. Whoever it is, tell 'em I'm busy."
"Tengen! What if it's something important?"
He rolled his eyes. "Oh yeah. Like what? I doubt it. Anyways Im not doing anymore work tonight so they can wait until Monday and screw off."
"I GOT IT, UZUI!!"
If the other man heard him, he didn't react beyond another eye roll. The phone continued to buzz, giving a rapid tapping sound as it buzzed against the coffee table but it was quickly snatched up by a large hand. A thumb pressed against the answer button, and the device was held to his ear.
"HELLO!"
A pause. Most likely from the loud volume of his voice as he eagerly waited.
"Kyojuro." He knew in an instant whom was calling them.
"GYOMEI!" He lit up happy hearing the familiar voice of their blind friend. Last they saw of him, he was still waiting in front of the University for his date. The other four seemed to have perked up especially Tengen. "It's good to hear from you! How was your date? Did you enjoy the show?"
A soft sigh. "It was.. surprising to say the least."
Kyojuro's smile faded away with a blink. "Oh. What's wrong?"
"Nothing. On the contrary, it actually was possibly the best date I've ever been on. In fact you're not going to believe me when I tell you," he sounded genuinely happy which was a surprise but a welcome one! "You won't believe this-" He repeated hopefully. Excitedly. "-but she wants to meet you all!"
There was a pause as Kyojuro paused, fiery eyes blinking. Again and again. Allowing his brain to slowly start processing the information Gyomei had fed it. Four pairs of eyes watched him with confusion and anticipation from the sofa awaiting the blonde's answer. Eventually Kyojuro regained enough sense to at least ask.
"She wants to.. meet us?," he repeated slowly as if the words were in another language. Gyomei's happy 'uh huh' confirmed the strange words to him. "I..see. Well then. This is quite the surprise!" A small jab of concern couldn't be helped though. "But did you talk her into it or did you plainly ask and she said yes?"
"Neither." Cue more confusion on the blonde's end. "She's actually the one who suggested it!"
Kyojuro gawked at nothing. Eyed widening and mouth opening. "You're joking."
"I wouldn't have told you if I was. It was her idea."
"I-..Well that's amazing! But you did tell her about US us right? Not that we're just friends or-"
"She's aware. I informed her about my partners, and she'd like to meet everyone." His voice confirmed brightly. "I just wanted to inform you all and get your opinions on the matter. Would..Would you be willing to see her?"
"OF COURSE!" He brightly shouted with a beaming smile. "We'd love nothing more than to meet her! When did you want us to come over?"
"Actually I was thinking perhaps I could bring her along with us to our weekend meet up next week."
"Excellent idea! That way she can meet all of us at once! Have you asked anyone else about it yet?"
"Not yet. Technically I'm still on this date and I don't want to make her wait so long for me."
"Not to worry! I can just ask everyone in the group chat!"
"Are you sure? Maybe I should wait until Sunday to ask everyone-"
"Nonsense! Leave that part to me. You go enjoy the rest of your date and don't worry about it!"
A small pause. "...Well, if you're sure-"
"Of course I am! Leave everything to me! I'll handle everything."
The phone was hung up before Gyomei could have a chance to say anything in response. The smile on Kyojuro's face wide as it was happy. Well, well, well. His mother was right. Surprises do come when you least expect it to happen!
"So.. What's up?"
"Great news! Gyomei's date wants to meet us!," he bluntly shouted to the room.
There was stunned silence as four pairs of wide eyes gawked at him and his happily smiling face. The four still stared at him for much, much longer until Suma squeaked out in surprise when Tengen suddenly sat up now and stared at him.
"You're joking!"
"That's what I asked Gyomei first! He's not and I'm not either! She really wants to meet us!"
"Does she know though?!"
"I asked that too! He said he explained the entire situation to her! And he wants to bring her to our get together weekend to meet everyone!"
"No." Tengen looked like he didn't believe the words coming from Kyojuro at all. "I don't believe it."
"Well you'd better, because I'm about to ask everyone else to let her come with us."
"Uh..You think that's a good idea?" Tengen rose a brow shifting his grip on his wives still that all either by now got off his la or were still sitting on him as he pointed. "Like it might be a big killjoy if we just invited a random stranger we've never seen before to a thing we already planned."
"THAT'S WHY I'M DOING THE RESPONSIBLE THING AND ASKING!!"
Tengen's phone was gently tossed back onto the small coffee table with a thud sound and a moment later his own phone was pulled out, turned on, and with a few presses of buttons he was able to pull up his Diskard account. A new chatting website that came out last year. They mostly used it for talking to each other in the group chat and discussing plans to hang out. Like clockwork his icon with a flame covered fire pit came up.
Flame_King: HELLO EVERYONE!!!
The response was almost immediate. Two icons popped up with matching but different colored butterflies- Ah! Kanae and Shinobu! A tornado. Sanemi! Snake and a cute kitty cat. OBANAI AND MITSURI!
Petal butterfly: Hey, Kyo.
Butterflyislovebutterflyislife: Yes?
Catlover36: OMG HI! :D
Snakeman: What?
Sanemi remained silent but considering his icon popped up that meant he was online and looking at the conversation.
Flame_King: HI! Where's Giyuu?
Butterflyislovebutterflyislife: Asleep. He tuckered himself out doing rolls.
Snakeman: Rolls? What was he doing? Parkour?
Butterflyislovebutterflyislife: No. His sister wanted him to make her some of his jelly rolls. He passed out in the middle of making the dough and now he's snoring away covered in flour.
Snakeman: PLEASE tell me you took a picture of that!
Butterflyislovebutterflyislife: Of course.
Flame_King: I think we're getting off topic here. I have a very important question for everyone.
Petal butterfly: What is it, Kyo?
Flame_King: Well you're not gonna believe this, but Gyomei's date wants to meet all of us! And before you ask, yes he already explained everything to her.
He waited for their response. As expected there was silence for a long while as he was sure everyone was just as shocked he was. It must've been at least a full minute before the snake icon responded.
Snakeman: You're kidding
Flame_King: NOPE! I was surprised too!
Petal butterfly: Where is Gyomei???
Flame_King: He's still on his date actually. I think they're having dinner?? Anyways he called and wanted what everyone thought about having her over for our big weekend session next week?
As he expected again there was some more silence from everyone else not that he was expecting anything else.
Catlover36: I think it's a great idea!:D I'm so excited!
Butterflyislovebutterflyislife: He's really serious about this huh?
Flame_King: Well considering up to this point he's been very excited about seeing her over and over again, I think we at least owe it to him to at least meet her. If not for our sake then to be supportive partners to Gyomei!
Snakeman: I don't know..I'm getting a bad feeling about this.
Butterflyislovebutterflyislife: You got a bad feeling when Tengen made us play that Pocky game but you still kissed Sanemi and Hina.
Snakeman: NO ONE ASKED YOU!!
Catlover36: Actually Rengoku did.
Butterflyislovebutterflyislife: It's ok. He just doesn't want to admit he likes it when we give him kisses.
Snakeman: SHUT UP SHINOBU!!
tornado-enthusiast: EVERYONE SHUT IT!! Kyo, what does everyone else think about this? Where's Tengen n the others?
Kyojuro was taken back in surprise. It was the first time Sanemi decided to speak up about the situation but he answered.
Flame_King: Tengen and the girls are fine with it but he said I should check in with everyone else to see what you thought. Mitsuri seems on board! So what does everyone else think?
There was more silence until Kanae popped up again.
Petal butterfly: I agree with Mitsuri. It'd be nice to meet her.
Butterflyislovebutterflyislife: Ok. It'll be good to scope out the situation.
Flame_King: What about Giyuu?
Butterflyislovebutterflyislife: I'll tell him after his mid cookery nap. He'll be fine tho.
Snakeman: Find but she's not touching Kaburamaru!! *Fine
tornado-enthusiast: Fine I guess..
Flame_King: I knew you all would agree! Don't worry! I'll tell Gyomei the good news later!
"IT'S ON!" Kyojuro happily looked up at the sofa widely smiling. "Everyone's agreed to let her come!"
"That's nice, but is this really a good idea?"
"Don't worry yourself, Tengen! This is Gyomei we're speaking of! Whoever she is, she'll be super special!"

bill’s dialogue
I gripped the bed sheets as I sniffled, the room was dark, and I could barely see him yet I knew the look that he was giving me. My chest heaved up and down, eyes were blurry as I fluttered the tears away. His hair was disheveled, eyes wide with pursed lips. "You couldn't just fucking tell me that?"
"Tell you what? That I was at fucking work?! Do I have to text you every second now?!" Bill bellowed, clenching his fists that laid by his sides.
"That's not the point, Bill, " I hoarsed through sobs. "I was worried, okay? What if you got into a car crash or something?"
"You're doing it again, no I didn't get into some fucking car crash or whatever you're worried about, " He took steps closer to the bed, looking down at me. "It's almost as if you want it to happen."
"No, I don't! I would never wish that on you, Bill, " I brokenly sobbed and he let out a heavy sigh, pacing around the room.
"That's your problem, " He stopped by our dresser, slamming his fist onto it, causing the loose screws to shake and let out a noise as they hit against the wooden holes they sat in. I flinched, watching him turn his gaze towards me over his shoulder. "You're always fucking worried, I can take care of myself. Do you know how annoying it is-"
"I just care, Bill! I just want to know that you're okay and that you'll be okay. That's all I fucking ask for, " I sniffled, the skin under my eyes burned as I wiped the tears away from my puffy eyes with the sleeve of my sweatshirt. The light from the hallway lit into our room, revealing Bill's face a bit with a beam. His mascara and eyeliner were runny from sweat or tears.
"Well, it's fucking annoying. Every second you text me to see where I am, or what I'm fucking doing-" He was cut off.
"Because I fucking care-"
"No, you're fucking insane! None of my exes have ever acted this way!-"
"Don't you dare compare me to them as if they've never done you wrong!" I snarled, pointing a finger at him as I clenched my jaw. He grit his teeth, furrowing his brows. His nostrils flared as he breathed heavily, we kept eye contact in silence for a few minutes before he parted his lips.
"I rather be with them than you, at least they knew when to leave me the fuck alone, " Bill spoke through clenched teeth. I felt my heart drop as I looked at him, my lips parted as my jaw hung low. My stomach turned as he looked at me with narrowed eyes and a frown, reaching into his back pocket. The sound of cigarettes shuffled as he pulled out the red-detailed 'Marlboro' box. "I'm gonna go smoke, I hope it lights on fire and burns the house down, " He scoffed before walking towards the bedroom door, not giving me another glance as the wood under him creaked. I bit my lip, feeling my face heat up as tears began to well up. I whimpered, falling back onto the bed, and reaching over for my phone on the bedside table. My face was lit up by the phone screen as I flipped it open.

I closed my phone, tossing it onto the table before pulling the blanket over me. I sniffled as I snuggled into the bed, fluttering my eyes close before drifting off.
***
My feet stood against the cold tile of the kitchen floors as I diced the potatoes. The ventilation hood let out a low hum as I boiled water on the stove, making stew for one. It's been days since we spoke, I couldn't even remember his voice by now. We barely met eye-to-eye anyway since he left early and came home late. I slid the bad piece of the potato to the side of the cutting board, continuing to cut the rest. I froze, seeing the familiar painted nails and each silver ring that fitted on each finger, snake around my waist. I bit my lip, continuing to cut the potatoes as I felt his chin rest on my shoulder.
"Love..." Bill spoke softly into my ear before placing gentle kisses on my ear lobe. "I missed you, " He continued, placing more kisses on my ear as he held me close. I stayed silent, focusing as I placed the pieces into a bowl. "I'm sorry for yelling at you...and saying all those things, " He kissed down to my neck, moving his hands onto my sides. He massaged my sides, placing long opened mouth kisses on the right side of my neck. "I didn't mean it, any of it. You're the sweetest and one of a kind...nothing can excuse what I said, " He hummed, continuing to kiss my neck. I felt my face heat up, my eyes welling up as my lip quivered. "You have to speak at some point, please?" He frowned against my skin, slowly moving his hands up my shirt. I shivered at the cold touch as he held my waist from under.
"How could you say those things to my face?" I wept, a tear falling down my cheek. He clicked his tongue, turning me around. The knife fell out of my hand and into the sink. Bill frowned as he looked down at me, his focus being on the teardrop on my cheek. He lifted my face by my chin with his finger, pecking the salty tear away. He wrapped his arms around my waist again, leaning back to look at me.
"My baby...I was having a bad day and I shouldn't have taken it out on you, " He pecked my lips, and I sniffled as I allowed him.
"You were so mean, " I whimpered, looking down at the neckline of his t-shirt.
"I know, I know, " He cupped my cheek, moving my gaze back up at him. "I'm sorry. I know you were just looking out for me, I was just so stressed, " He leaned in, placing his lips on mine again yet not pulling away this time. I reciprocated after a few seconds, closing my eyes before throwing my arms around his neck. His lips were soft and plump as I remembered each line that made up his lips. He moved his hands down and under my shirt to hold my waist again. He smiled against my lips, his hands wandering my body. I let out a pleased sigh, pushing myself against him. Bill let out a grunt, our lips moving against each other. He pulled away after a while, giving me a few pecks before his lips left. "Do you wanna go out tonight?"
"Go out? Where?" I tilted my head, moving my hands down and back against the counter I was leaning against.
"The club, since I know you love to dance...and drink, " He wiggled his eyebrows, smirking. I scoffed, rolling my eyes.
"You know I love the drinks, " I hummed, standing up. "I guess we can."
"We can go...only if you forgive me, " He bit his lip with a smile.
"Fine...I forgive you, " I rolled my eyes. He grinned, pulling me back for another kiss. I let out a huff as I widened my eyes before kissing back.
"Go get ready, " He pecked my nose, reaching back to turn off the gas stove. "I want everyone to see how beautiful you are, " He hummed and massaged my sides. I nodded with a grin, pulling away to rush to our bathroom.
***
I licked the sweet taste from the corners of my lips, sitting on a stool by the bar. Bill's hand rested on my bare thigh as he sipped his glass of whiskey. DJ announcements roared into my ears as he announced the next song, scratching playing after that. Red lights hit Bill as I turned my attention to him, his eyes already on mine as he caressed my thigh with his thumb. He stayed close as people passed by dancing or dragging their feet.
"You having fun?" He asked, tilting his head as he placed his empty glass down on the counter, that was fogged with condensation.
"I guess, we haven't danced yet, " I shrugged. He hopped off his seat, taking my hand in his to pull me out of my seat. I let go of the glass in my hand, following along as he pulled me through people.
Bill grinned as he turned to me, stepping into an empty spot. There was enough room for us but people continued to hug us in. He took my hand to his lips, kissing my knuckles before spinning me around. The music pounded into my chest as I pushed myself against him. He held my arm above my head, his jeans tickling the back of my thighs. I bit my lip as my feet stayed stagnant, and my ankles flowed with me as I moved my body against Bill. My body heated up as I did. He followed my rhythm, mirroring each body roll I did. He grinned, wrapping an arm around my waist as we continued. I laid my head back on his chest, continuing to roll my body with him. His hand snaked down to my thigh, caressing it as I grinded against him. People continue to dance around us. I reached back with my free hand, my fingers tangling with his hair as my hand held his nape. He grinned down at me and I looked up at him with a lazy smile. My hand slid from his nape to his cheek, pulling him in for a kiss. His lips pressed against mine and I closed my eyes, my gloss, and his chapstick mixing. I gasped softly, feeling his soft grasp move to my waist. Bill pulled away, turning me to face him.
"I'll be back, I need to go to the restroom, " He pecked my lips again.
"Stay safe, " I let out. He nodded in response, kissing my nose before pulling away. He pushed the people, making his way to the restroom. I lost sight of him, making my way back to the bar. I sighed, taking my seat again, and turning my whole body onto the counter. I laid my handbag in my lap, motioning the bartender over. "Get me something sweet, please, " I grinned, watching them get to work. I rested my hand as my elbow rested on the table. I frowned, looking around as the dark-haired male wasn't back or anywhere nearby. I looked down at my lap, popping my handbag open to pull out my flip phone.

Me - 12:37 AM
"bill u ok??"
—
I furrowed my brows, staring at my phone for five minutes. My palms grew slick from sweat, and I closed my phone with no response. I nibbled on my lip, watching as the drink was placed in front of me. "Thank you, " I mumbled, taking a sip as my thumb fidgeted with the fingers on my free hand. I flinched, seeing a tall figure enter my vision, but it wasn't my Bill. I kept my focus on my drink, shaking my left leg up and down against the shiny floor.
"Hey, " The low voice spoke behind me, leaning onto the counter to face me. He snapped his fingers in my face, furrowing his eyebrows. "I said hey, lady. Gosh, do girls just ignore good-looking men these days?" He scoffed. I turned my head slowly to him with an eye roll. His hair was curly, ginger. Skin pale with sharp, green eyes as they stared right into my eyes.
"What do you want?" I covered my drink with my palm. He grinned as he stared over my features, his gaze slowly going down to my cleavage. I placed my free hand over my chest, scoffing. His face was stubbled with the same hair color that sat on his head.
"What do I want? Is that how you flirt? I'm just trying to be nice here. I see a nice woman alone at the bar and I approach her, " He spoke, even though he was inches away and the air was stale, I could smell his beer breath from where I was sitting.
"No, I'm not alone. I'm here with my boyfriend, " I scoffed, sitting up straight and tightening my core.
"Well I don't see him, don't lie to me, " He snickered, a hand reaching out for my shoulder. I widened my eyes, instinctively picking up my drink and throwing it in his face. He clenched his eyes shut, covering his eyes with a hiss. "You fucking bitch!" He growled. I slammed the glass down, sliding off my seat before running to the restroom. I pushed past people, the music growing distinct as I made it to the long hallway. My heels clacking and echoing through them.
"Bill! Bill!" I called out with a cry. I froze in my steps, hearing loud kissing noises and small groans. I took a turn, the kisses only becoming louder. I felt my heart sink, seeing familiar brunette hair with pink streaks tangled into his polished fingernails. Bill's eyes were shut closed as his lips moved against Amber's. His hands on her in a way that he would never touch me the same. I covered my mouth, feeling my face heat up, my eyes blurry as my stomach turned. Her hands were on him, places where I knew he was weak. I felt my knees shake, the pain in my feet from the heels where I once felt like I floated.
"Fuck...I love you, Amber, " He breathed against her lips. She smirked against his lips, moving her kisses down to his neck. He groaned, throwing his head back, his eyebrows knitting as her hand trailed down. I bit on my lip harshly, clenching my fists as they moved down to my sides. I dug my nails into the vegan leather that made my hand bag, turning around. I breathed heavily, my chest heaving as I stormed away. My face was damp by now, and I looked down as I moved past people, making my way out. Once the cold air hit me as I made it past the bouncer, I let out sobs, my chest heavy as I wiped away my tears. I looked at my hand, it was covered by the runny mascara and foundation I had on.
"God, how could they?" My throat was sore already from breathing uneasily, taking out my phone for a taxi.
***
I couldn't eat or sleep, staying in bed all day. The makeup from three days ago was still on my face with small residue as I laid in sweats. I held my pillow, hoping that the next sound from downstairs would be Bill opening the door with flowers in hand. Yet, I was disappointed after each small creak, having nothing come in return. I sat up, the sheets shuffling against me as I leaned against the headboard. I reached for my phone, gritting my teeth as I dialed her.
"What?" The feminine voice answered.
"I thought you fucking cared about me, " My breath was going at a familiar pattern from days ago, my nostrils flaring as my nails dug into my palm.
"I mean...why did you think I was trying to get you to break up with him?" Amber yawned.
"He's gonna do the same to you, " I snarled. She sighed, rustling could be heard from the other end.
"I don't think so...I mean. Why do you think he always comes home late?" She responded. I could feel the smirk on her face and scoffed, wiping the tear that rolled down my cheek.
"I don't even know you anymore, Amber, " I sniffled.
"When did you ever?" She breathed. Small kissing noises could be heard with more rustling.
"Who's on the phone, babe?" A masculine voice groggily spoke.
"No one, Bill, go back to sleep, " She giggled softly as kisses noises followed. "Stop, babe, " She whined softly as more kisses followed.
"How can I? You're so beautiful, " He murmured. I felt my throat form a lump, my stomach turning as if I could vomit right there and then. I clenched my jaw, putting my lips to the speaker.
"Fuck you both, " I snarled through bared teeth, closing the phone shut, tossing it aside. I sniffled, wiping my eyes one last time, before heading to the shower.

connected ch 6
genre: idek.
synopsis: after meeting chan at the cafe, you have a scary experience and need a little saving (it would never happen this way irl but it makes for a good chapter!)
word count: ~1.5k
warnings: fear, blood, attempted knife attack
an: oooooh the connected series is back~~ tbh i forgot about this series. i lost inspiration for it and then forgot it existed. but its recently gotten some attention and a couple people asked for the next part so i picked it up again. i guess we will see what happens with it.
masterlist • pervious chapter • next chapter
despite the short meeting, your heart felt full. it felt warm. it felt.. happy. you sat alone at your table for a little while, finishing your drink, replaying the encounter in your head, not looking forward to another two hour drive home. but you felt the trip was totally worth it. ten minutes with chan was worth ten hours of driving. but eventually, you needed to head home. it was starting to fall dark and you wanted to be in your car and on the road by then.
standing, you tossed your empty cup into a nearby trash can before exiting the store. your feet pitter pattered against the sidewalk as you pulled at a loose string on your sweater, daydreaming about him. remembering what his dimples looked like in real life, the little squeak in his laugh, the literal electric shock between your hands and his. this was your yn moment. and you had no one to share it with. but that’s okay.
your phone buzzed in your pocket.
i’m really sorry i had to leave so quickly. one of the guys needed me. please be safe going home. lmk when you get there.
you smiled, holding the phone close to your chest. you began to type out a response when you heard something to your left.
you were suddenly aware of the presence of another person. you didn’t want to turn and look directly, so you tried to see as much as you could in your peripheral. it was too dark to make out much. you definitely thought it was a man and he was wearing dark clothing. your good mood had now been replaced by fear. how far were you from your car? not far, but your car is in a multi level parking garage. did you really want to walk into an enclosed space, just for this person to follow you in? you wracked your brain with what to do.
your phone buzzed again.
are you already driving? i don’t mean to distract you. i just hope your not upset with me.
chan.
you clicked on his contact and pressed call. you slowly brought the phone to your ear, trying to remain calm and pretend the man wasn’t scaring you.
“hello?” he picked up on the first ring.
“chan?” you shakily said into the phone.
“yeah its me. are you okay? what’s wrong?” he asked. he could hear the shaking in your voice. his worry starting to rise.
“i’m walking back to my car from the coffee shop and i think im being followed.” you whispered into the phone.
“you what? followed? why do you think that? what’s happening?” he rapid fired his panic questions at you.
“i— im walking on the sidewalk and there’s a man in dark clothing walking behind me to my left. i think he’s been with me for a while. we’re the only ones on the street and it’s getting dark. and my car is in a garage but i’m scared he’s going to follow me in there and i don’t know what to do.” you were rambling, your breaths ragged now, coming out in pants. tears were pricking the corners of your eyes.
you were quickly approaching the garage and had to make a plan, quick. you could hear chan say something in korean to someone in the background. he sounded firm, authoritative.
“okay. baby listen to me.” he said, his voice now calm and soothing. “i’m close to the coffee shop. i’m walking in your direction. just stay calm okay?”
you nodded but then mumbled an mmhmm when you realized he couldn’t see you. you checked out of the corner of your eye and the man was still there. he was a little farther back, but still there. he wasn’t on his phone or anything, he had his hands in the pocket of his hoodie. you made it to the parking garage but you kept walking, deciding it wasn’t a good idea to go in.
“i had minho call the police and they’re on their way but they said it’s going to be a minute. im going to make it to you first. okay?.”
“okay..” you shakily breathed into the phone.
“you’re doing so good, sweetheart. just breathe.” he said.
you took a deep breath. and that’s when you felt something sharp poke into your back. you froze.
“you all alone out here, darlin?” the man asked from behind you, his free hand brushing the hair from your neck. you shivered.
you heard chan curse into the phone before you could hear his shoes, and maybe another pair, pounding into the pavement. coming at you in a full sprint.
“why don’t you hang up the phone and we won’t have any trouble.” the man said, punctuating his statement by applying more pressure to the knife he had to your lower back.
you did as he said, slowly lowering the phone from your ear and pressing the end button. your other hand was very slowly and carefully moving to your pocket for your pepper spray.
but before you could make a move, the pounding footsteps got louder and louder. the man looked over his shoulder to see two men running at him at full speed. he dropped the knife and pushed you to the ground before he took off down the sidewalk.
“ouch..” you whimpered, examining your scraped and bloody palms. one person kept running past, chasing the man. and then the other was in front of you. chan. he cradled your tear stained face in his hands, searching for any injuries.
“are you okay?” he asked, moving his examination down your body before seeing your palms. he pulled your hands into his lap. his head snapped up then, in the direction of the assailant and the man chasing him. is that…?
“changbin! let him go! it’s too dangerous!” chan called after them.
but changbin didn’t listen. he lunged and tackled the man to the ground.
“damn it, changbin.” chan muttered, before turning his attention back to you. “stay here, okay? i have to go help changbin.”
“no!” you clung onto his arm, panicked to be alone in the dark again. “please don’t leave me.”
his face softened. “okay, honey. okay. but i have to help him. come with me?” he stood and offered you his hand. you sniffled and stood also, placing your damaged hand in his before you both took off jogging down the sidewalk.
there was a small scuffle before changbin was sitting on top of the other man, using his legs to pin the man’s arms to his sides. changbin pulled his fist back, about to strike the man in the face.
“changbin! no.” chan said. it was more of an order than it was a statement. changbin turned to face you and chan, his fist still raised.
“hi! you must be yn.” changbin said, smiling, like he didn’t have your attacker pinned underneath him. “i’m changbin.” he introduced himself.
chan rolled his eyes and you chuckled a little. the attacker thrashed under changbin trying to free himself. changbin turned his attention back to the attacker who then started cowering, afraid of being punched.
you reached into your pocket and pulled out your pepper spray. you handed it to changbin. “here. use this.” you said.
changbin took the small can from you and examined it. he aimed the nozzle at the man before instructing you and chan to take a step back and cover your mouth and nose with your shirts. you did as he said and he also covered his own mouth and nose before spraying the man directly in the face. the man screamed and flopped around on the concrete. changbin hopped off of him and stood by your side as you watched the man cry on the ground. you could hear police sirens in the distance.
“thanks for saving me.” you sniffled, looking between your two heroes.
——
you had to file a police report and explain what happened in detail. chan stayed with you the whole time, holding your bandaged hands and stroking soft soothing circles into your skin. when it was all said and done, you had been at the police station for about an hour.
walking out the front door, there was a black suv with tinted windows waiting.
“i thought you might want to stay with me. i don’t really think you’re in the right state of mind to drive two hours home.” chan said, opening the car door for you. you slid into the back seat and he slid in next to you. the car took off.
“stay with you?” you whispered, so the driver wouldn’t hear.
“why are you whispering?” chan whispered back. he laughed and said at his normal volume: “the driver can’t hear us.”
“oh.” you were embarrassed.
“you can have my hotel room for the night and i’ll sleep in felix’s room. no big deal.” he smiled at you.
“okay..” you said, giving him a weak, tired smile back and looking out the window at the passing buildings, you wondered what in the world happened to your life?

Tag list- @southernbluebellereader (thank you so much for letting me vent about this work ily)
Funny how the worst night of your life would lead you to the best night of your life. Waking up the the blaring sounds of an alarm, you roll over and blindly grab your phone. It couldn't be 7am already can it? You tap on the screen to reveal it's only 2:47am and that sound was not your alarm. It takes you a moment to realize the ear shattering sound is coming from the fire alarm in your kitchen.
Without thinking you fling yourself out of the embrace of the covers only to be met with thick, choking, black smoke. Sputtering you being to cough and eyes filling with tears as you drop to the ground. Crawling to the door on all fours you slowly make your way across the hard vinyl flooring. Again, you mindlessly grab the door handle only to immediately fall backwards onto your back at the searing pain now flowing through your hand. A scream escapes your mouth as you look down, and even in the dark of the room you can see the charred flesh of your hand.
This is it, you think, swallowing hard. This is how you go. Scared and alone in your shitty one bedroom apartment in the same shitty town you were born. They're going to find your body on the morning news, charred and nearly unrecognizable, wearing nothing but an oversized t-shirt and panties. You let out a sob as the tears begin to fall from your eyes, mixing with the soot in the air. The burning only adds to your hysteria. Curling up into the fetal position and rocking back and forth you wait for your end.
Suddenly the door to your bedroom is smashed open, wood chips flying everywhere. You scream again and fling your eyes open. Before you stands a giant, a monster. You let out another scream and begin shuffling backwards to the corner of the room. The large creature begins moving towards you and scoops you up like you were nothing. You'd come to terms with dying and becoming a crisp but not dying to a shadow. Squirming you try to get out of the iron clad grasp holding you bridal style. "I got one, she's alive" a voice comes from the monster. Its not until you're out in the hallway that you finally notice, its not a creature, not a monster, but a man.
Piercing blue eyes look down at you from the inside of a yellow hood, crinkling into a small smile. "It's going to be ok, shhh" the thick British voice says, muffled by the gas mask protecting his face. Gulping and holding back tears, you simply nod before putting your face into his chest.
Cold air hits your thighs as you breach the exit of the apartment complex. A gasp escapes your throat and goosebumps immediately cover your body. A small chuckle escapes the figure holding you. He sets you down on the grass, far out of the reach of the fire engulfing your home. You open your eyes to look upon your savior as he kneels down to remove his mask. When he does, the world seems to move in slow motion like one of those stupid commercials.
He's simply breathtaking, from his perfect blue eyes to the well groomed beard that graces his face. "You alrigh' luv?" he asks, reaching out a gloved hand to your shoulder. His voice shakes you out of your daze, back to the harsh reality that you are half naked on the grass outside the crumbling building you used to live in.
It's such a simple question, but after everything you've just been through, it hits like a ton of bricks and tears begin to well up in your eyes again. "Thank you" you hiccup out between sobs, holding tightly onto the hand on your shoulder. He grabs you and brings you into a tight embrace. The world stops, there's no more yelling, no more burning buildings, no more sirens. Its just you and him.
"Cap? You good?" a voice breaks through your fantasy, and you whip your head around to see yet another beautiful man. This one sporting a mohawk and beautiful hazel eyes. "All good here Soap, go." your savior commands. "Soap?" you croak, a huff of a laugh escaping you. Looking back to the man holding you together, a soft smile crawls upon your lips. "Ha, yeah. Long story. You never answered me luv, you alright?" he asks, pulling away slightly to look you over, suddenly realizing just how exposed you were.
Immediately he takes off his jacket and lays it on you, offering you some small form of coverage. "'M alrigh" you respond, breathless. Truth be told, you were far from alright, but that was all you could muster. The man smiles at you and begins to get up, but before you can think you reach out and pull him back, "please... please don't leave" you whisper. His eyes widen ever so slightly, before he holds you back. "Alrigh' luv I won't leave you, cmon'" he smiles, scooping you back up and taking you to the back of the ambulance.
Setting you down in the back, he readjusts the jacket to cover your lower half before looking back up into your eyes, "Names John" he says. You look up into the eyes of the man who just saved your life, "John" you say, testing out the feeling of his name on your tongue. "That's it luv, don't wear it out now ya 'ear?" he murmurs into your ear before finally untangling himself from you. A small whine escapes your throat at the loss of contact, and a blush rises up your face as you realize that he definitely heard it. He chuckles, "alrigh' love, I need to go back to my team, will you let the paramedics check you out?" he asks, looking deep in your eyes. You swallow thickly and nod, "will you come back?" you whisper, your face growing redder by the second. "Of course, luv" he says before cupping your cheek and smiling. He drops his hand, offering you one last smile before saying, “take good care of her eh Gaz?”. He turns his back and jogs back to the firetruck.
The paramedic begins to check you out, tending to your hand. He’s also good looking; tall, muscular and sporting a baseball cap. You notice he also has a slight accent. As he grabs the gauze to wrap your hand he says, “so you didn’t pay attention in school huh?” The remark catches you off guard and you simply blink in confusion at the man, did he really just ask you that? “You shouldn’t grab metal in a fire” he chuckles, finishing your hand and giving you a pat on the shoulder.
“Guess not huh” you respond sheepishly. Not only were you almost burnt to a crisp but now you’re getting chastised for not remembering elementary school training. “Ah, we all forget things in the moment. You’ll be ight” he smiles, placing his med kit back in the ambulance. You look down at the jacket covering your bare legs, it reads in all caps “PRICE”. John Price.
Johns smiling face rounds the corner just as Gaz finishes cleaning up, “how she lookin’ kid?” he asks, looking at you. “Ah she’ll be ight cap” Gaz responds, taking the unspoken hint to slip away and leave you two alone. You absentmindedly flex your hand, the feeling of the gauze on your hand unfamiliar and coarse.
“You alright sweetheart?” John kneels to be closer to your height, his eyes looking deep into yours. “Much better now. I don’t think I’ll ever forget to not touch metal” you laugh weakly. His laugh surprises you, deep and rich. The wrinkles by his eyes deepen as he laughs.
Now that the immediate threat of dying was over, you began to notice just how attractive John was. His muscles rippling underneath the tight long sleeve made your head spin. Or maybe it was the smoke inhalation. You could make out the salt and pepper greys in his beard and hair. And to top it all off, his beautiful blue eyes. You could get lost in them, you were lost in them.
A hand waves itself infront of your face and snaps you back to reality. You’d been caught and you blushed feverishly. “Luv?” John asked, “I asked ya a question.” “Oh ah uh. Sorry. Adrenaline” you answer, eyes darting to the concrete below, trying desperately to hide your face. “I asked if you got somewhere to stay?” He questions again. “Oh. Uhm. Yeah I can get a hotel.” You say, not quite sure how you’ll afford it but you really don’t have any option. “Well then, we’ll take ya” John smiles, holding out his hand.
You grab his hand and move his jacket so it’s resting on your shoulders. He leads you back to the fire truck where the rest of his crew is waiting. “Cap?” A man in a balaclava asks. “Were just taking.. hmm didn’t catch your name luv” John looks over to you. “Oh it’s Y/N” you say, blushing once again. “Beautiful. We’re dropping Y/N off a hotel” John states, recieving nods from his crew.
The ride there is quiet, John driving, the smell of smoke suffocating the cab of the truck. All the men looked exhausted, the one they called soap dozing off. But the man in the balaclava never took his eyes off you, never waivered. You found him odd, his stare unsettling you a bit.
When you finally make it to a hotel Soap wakes and opens the door for you, where John is waiting to help you down. He leads you into the lobby and before you can speak he says “one room for the lady please” to the receptionist. The woman behind the desk smiles and says, “sure thing John” before sliding him a key.
“But wait- I need to pay!” You exclaim. John simply laughs and extends his hand out again to lead you to your room. “No need to worry luv, this is on me” he smiles. You could get lost forever in that smile, would do anything to get to see it. The walk to your room seeming all too short, he drops your hand to unlock the door and holds it open for you.
“Get some rest alright?” He says, looking down at you. All the adrenaline has evaporated from your body and all you can think about is how comfortable that bed looks. You look up to him and whisper, “thank you.” He smiles again, before gesturing you inside. “Sleep well, luv’” he murmurs before closing the door and leaving you in the darkness of the hotel room.
You don’t even remember crawling into bed or even falling asleep. When you wake, you’re comfortably in bed still in John Prices jacket.

I am v much like Carmy & got a alot of amusement AND enjoyment writing this chapter, so that makes my brain tell me I took it too OOC & I haaate writing these 2 OOC. So if its OOC I'm sorry, but at least it's funny LOL. The story Shayna tells is lightly based on Euphoria But the college version - so if you've seen it that's why it feels a little familiar - if you haven't seen it its a same vibe except high school so the father is much, much more disgusting. But I looove writing Shayna so much, I have friends like her & they are always the personalities to make you laugh until youre sore the next day - & Syd & Carmy deserves a friend like that so I gave them one! Without further ado, I hope you enjoy <3 As per usual this fic is inspired by Tucson that can be read here It was written by my lovely friend @gingergofastboatsmojito please be sure to read that one before you read Blue Lotus, also do give Ginger a follow!!!

“Hey! Im Sydney- sure! We were uh…we were gonna cook- do you wanna join? I just got back from the store” she got up, shaking her hand.
“Totally - my god this necklace! Where did you get it?” Shayna asked, leaning in and looking at the pendant “and you smell so good, lavender?” She said.
“I thrifted it! I love thrifting. Carm does too- does it so much he has to keep extra jeans in his oven.. oh! And yeah this perfume it’s inside. I’ll show it to you” Syd replied happily.
“Your oven?” Jesse asked Carm
“Yeah uh.. not enough space- um Syd these are my…” he trails off
“Friends. Were his friends- therapy friends I guess. I mean I hope he holds his word and texts me when we get out of here” Shayna nudged Carm’s shoulder gently.
He cleared his throat “yeah- uh-my friends. Shayna and Jesse.” He said shyly.
“Well it’s nice to meet you guys, have you ever had deer? They sell it at the grocery store here, harder to get in Chicago. I figured we’d try this recipe I thought up a while ago” she opened the door to the cabin and Jesse and Shana went inside making themselves at home right away.
This wasn’t the first time they’d hung out, they would do this a few times a week before dinner and then sit and eat together before going back to their respective cabins for the night.
“Never had deer before - aren’t you guys like super chefs or-“ Jesse is interrupted by Shayna’s whining
“Carmen you still haven’t asked for a wifi box?!” She asked annoyed, putting her phone back in the pocket of her cargo jeans.
“No I haven’t because I don’t need one I’m not addicted to Instagram or whatever the fuck” Carmy said, taking the door for Syd and she headed in, him following suit.
“Oh yeah I forgot Carmy the little old man who likes to hide away from the online world- you look like you take fire Instagram pictures, how do you deal with that loser all the time?” She asked Syd jokingly, leaning against the counter and watching as she pulled various ingredients from the fridge.
Syd laughed a bit, a big smile on her face as she moved around looking through various cabinets. “I do…um- Chef-“ she said and he sat up from where he was leaning against the kitchen doorframe
“Where do you need me?” He asked her
“Onions medium dice if you can manage the knives here suck” she took out one of the small knives they kept for him in the drawer and set it on the cutting board as she began to pick the rosemary, putting the sprigs in a bowl.
“What the fuck is that” Shayna picked up a mortar with a deep black goop at the bottom.
“Juniper berries…found a juniper tree when I was hanging outside. Made sure it’s the right kind so don’t be worried” Syd said and Carmen couldn’t help the small smile that curled his lips.
“You found a juniper, and you just.. remembered this recipe?” Carmen asked, chopping the onions as skillfully as if he hadn’t been out of the kitchen a single day.
“Thats hot” Shayna says “you’re hot as hell bitch! Oh my god! You just saw a tree and were like ‘let me make up this super cute berry deer coquette dish’ ” she said, causing Syd, her, and Jesse to crack up, but Carmen was lost.
“The fuck is a coquette?” He asked, causing Syd to laugh harder when Shayna said between giggles
“I told you! He’s so old!!!” She squeaked, leaning against the counter and wiping tears from the corners of her eyes.
“Coquette is like… Marina and the Diamonds on Vinyl, pink bow, fairy princess, Sydney in the woods picking juniper berries aesthetic it’s like..a vibe.” Shayna explained.
“Oh my god- it’s a girl thing carm it’s like. I dunno- like pink frilly shit and like- Lacy shit?” Jesse tried to explain.
Carm raised his brows, scraping the now cut onions into a bowl. “So Syd picking berries what does that have to do with- what did you say- pink bows?” Carm questioned and Shayna rolls her eyes.
“It’s the vibe Carmen, the vibe. Ugh you are no fun I can already tell Sydney is the fun one. What music do you listen to?” Shayna sat up next to Syd on the counter as she dusted the board with flour and started to cut the meat into chunks.
“I listen to…well- a lot. My mom loved R&B so I still listen to that but mostly 90s stuff that makes me think of her, I love SZA, HER, Jhené Aiko, oh Kali Uchis! Khelani of course… frank ocean is so fire I really like his stuff too..yeah just a lot of stuff.” She explained.
Carm sat there digesting every word she said, it wasn’t unusual for him to do that. He tried tucking the unfamiliar names in the back of his mind so he could look them up or ask Shayna what she knew about them later.
“Oh my god- we have to chill sometime!! Do you smoke?” Shay asked hopefully and Syd looked at Carm for a moment before her eyes flickered back to Shayna.
“I do. But…not when I’m working. Because it fucks up my taste and smell..but I am on vacation so…” she said with a small shrug and a smile.
“Dude! Oh my god Jesse cmon I need to go back to my cabin” she got down off the counter “I’ll be right back” she said and they headed out being sure to close the door behind them.
“They’re fucking?” Syd asked and Carmen laughed a bit
“No- no. Where’d you get that?” He asked, beginning to peel the carrots over the garbage can.
“Why did he go with her? Aren’t the cabins all right here?” She asked.
Carmen looked up at her for a moment “oh- yeah. They are. Shay has somethin about being alone. Somethin about her childhood- she came here because she said it’s like…the good version of where her dad sent her. Whatever that means. But she can’t be out and about alone it freaks her out. I guess she went to some… wilderness camp? She went on about it in one of our sessions. They were…they were fucked up.” He said, putting the now peeled carrot down on the cutting board and starting on the next.
“Shit.” She said, putting the cast iron on the burner, starting the flame with the lighter that she’d found on the counter. “Like…so they left her in the middle of nowhere or something?” She asked and Carmy shrugged.
“Kinda like that. She said that they like…would hike all day. And then at night they’d have to pitch their own tents. They took their shoes at night so they wouldn’t try and run. They’d like- send pictures back to their family- and if they didn’t smile they’d get in trouble. Pretty fuckin…sadistic shit t’do to a kid. Dunno how her dad thought it would change her ways - she said she went because their views on religion didn’t align…” he explained
“Wow…” she said, after a long beat of silence “she’s like..I wouldn’t have expected her to be so friendly after that. I wouldn’t be” she said, salting down the meat.
“Yeah Shayna is…a character. For sure. But she’s really sweet, and has a huge heart even though she loves to bitch people out. She’d cut someone if they tried to fuck with me, though. One of the newcomers showed me that” he chuckled, shaking his head a bit.
“What happened?” She asked
“So we were at lunch, and before that day we just..sat at the same table but didn’t really talk. She talked, but I would mostly listen. And um, this new dude. Justin? I think? Total fuckhead. Guys a tank too, like fuckin’ 6’2? No joke. But uh he was like basically screaming at his table, talkin’ so fuckin’ loud, so I looked over- and he met my eyes and just went off hes like ‘you got a problem little man? What the fuck is up with you, you got a staring problem?’ And Shayna- you should have seen her!” He laughs at the memory.
“What’d she do?” Syd asks curiously.
“Oh, she picked up her mashed potatoes- like - a fist full of mashed potatoes Syd- bare handed- and screeeamed at him ‘YOU WANNA FUCK WITH HIM COCKSUCKER?! WHY DON’T YOU COME FUCK WITH A BITCH THAT CAN ACTUALLY LOOK YOU IN THE EYE, SCAREDY MOTHERFUCKER!’ then whipped it at the dude. It hit him right in the face- eeeeveryone was dying we were all cracking the fuck up. I haven't seen him again after that, thankfully, but then she just looked at me and asked me for my plastic knife so she could get the potatoes from under those huge nails she wears and went to wash her hands like nothing happened.” He explained.
Syd laughs and Carm follows suit. “Wow. Well I guess I shouldn’t worry about you after all- you found a temporary big sister, you should keep her around. I don’t think I’ve ever met someone who would pelt another in the face with mashed potatoes for me” she snorts a laugh, setting the meat in the pan.
“I would. Without a shadow of a doubt, when Marcus was yelling at you I wanted to fuckin knock him out with a pan-“ he stopped himself and she looked over at him, the only sound now filling the room being the sizzling of venison on cast iron and the tick of the wall clock.
She blinked a few times, unsure what to say before the memory of the drawing came back to her.
Just say it now. Why else would he want to hit one of his employees with a pan if not for feelings he hasn’t made me aware of?
She’d thought to herself.
But Carmen on the other hand was thanking god that Shayna and Jesse came back, boisterous as ever-
“Pookiesss We come bearing gifts” Shayna drops a bag on the table, as well as a pink speaker that was playing some Spanish music Carmen hadn’t ever heard before.
“You listen to Bad Bunny?” Syd asks as she turns around.
“YOU Listen to bad bunny?” Jesse asks and Syd smiles big
“Who doesn’t listen to Bad Bunny?” Syd laughed “he’s like- literally I think the most listened to Spotify artist or something? Top 3?!”
“Who is bad bunny?” Carmen asks as he cut the carrots into matchsticks.
“You need to train your dogs better, Sydney” Shayna teased, taking shooters of grey goose out of her tote bag and putting them in the freezer.
Syd laughs so hard she snorts, covering up her mouth with her hand and shaking her head. “You are fucking insane” she said
Carmen smiled big, looking over at Syd. “Chef, did you just snort?” He teased smugly and set his knife down, leaning against the counter next to her, smirking.
“I did- because your friend thinks you’re my bitch” she teased, turning back to the meat and flipping each cube carefully with the metal tongs that were next to her on the counter.
Carmen’s mouth drops and his cheeks go scarlett, Shayna snorts a laugh, sitting at the table casually, legs crossed as she picked the stems and seeds off buds of weed, while Jesse howls with laughter. “Fuuuck-“ he shakes his head with amusement “wow. I uh…” he snorts a laugh “I get you Carmen. Get you better now” he said.
“Okay- fuck you shayna” Carmen shook his head, unable to contain his smile. He’d never heard Syd laugh so hard before and witnessing it made him feel on fire.
“Sorry I can tell who wears the pants it’s a natural talent of mine” she shrugged, “Jess come do this” she slid the little container of picked apart buds over to the spot next to her and he sits next to her at the table.
“So you guys aren’t..like you’ve not known eachother before this?” Syd asks them.
“Oh! No we did actually. Jess and I met at this program when we were 14, restart. It was a pure chance though that we come here at the same time.” She said and got up, washing her hands in the kitchen sink of the sticky resin.
“That’s so cool - where are you from?” Syd asked her as she takes the bowl of onions from next to Carm at the island, their hands brushing for a moment which caused Carmen to nearly cut himself because his focus was completely lost at her touch.
“Were from LA. Aren’t you from Chicago? Why are you here? I mean- like it’s great you’re great I’m glad to have a sane member of society around, it’s refreshing when you’re only around only psychos, you know? But uh..” she laughed a bit when Syd got started “you must be…pretty close friends” she looked at Carm for a moment before looking back at her.
Carmen suddenly felt something akin to anger sitting low in his chest. And it had to do with Shayna. He likes Shayna, so he wasn’t sure what was going on. But, Jesse saw the switch in Carmen- and read it right away as jealousy.
“Uh…” Syd clears her throat nervously, suddenly not knowing what to say.
“Like what is it? Jess? We went to restart in Wisconsin so Chicago? How far is that?” She asks.
Jesse gave her the cut it out eyes, but Shayna hadn’t been able to play matchmaker in weeks, she was gonna push these two together the same way she made her Barbie’s kiss when she was a kid.
“I’ll guess like - 1800 miles. Soooo- oh! And don’t you have that restaurant?” She asked and Syd nods.
“Mmhmm we run it together. It’s fine though it’s being held down, I finally got my new Sous trained and his sister is working a lot lately she wants to get everything all together before she has her baby so…” she rambled on, trying to pull out any reason that made it sound like she was unneeded there - even though that couldn’t be further from the truth.
“Right. I’m gonna go smoke would you like to come? I’m sure your…” she looks back at Carmen for a moment before looking back at Sydney “partner can hold this down until we get back?” She asked and looked at Carmen again, raising her brows.
“Yeah- yeah Syd go. Go ahead go relax - got this chef.” He nods and went over to the stove, squeezing past her in the tight space, his hand brushing her waist momentarily as he did so.
“Okay- okay sure” Syd nodded, following Shayna outside. She walked quietly for a few moments, lighting the joint and taking a drag before handing it over to Syd.
They were about 30 feet from the house, Syd was taking a deep drag of the joint - savoring the taste since she couldn’t do it often, when Shayna said
“You need to fuck eachothers brains out so he can go the fuck home. That- or tell him it’ll never happen so he can stay here for however long it takes him to break down and move on”
Sydney choked on the smoke in her throat, quickly handing the burning joint back to Shayna and coughing into her arm.
Shayna laughs before taking another drag, patting Sydney’s back sympathetically. “Sorry- people have told me I’m too blunt but I’d rather hear the truth so I give it to people straight” she said simply.
“Dude! What if he heard you! Shhh!” Sydney said once she caught her breath.
“Oh please! No! He didn’t! And if he did- he’d be leaned halfway out the door trying to hear the answer because he’s dying to know! You know he has the hots for you- please- don’t play stupid, girl” She rolled her eyes, handing the joint back over.
“What - no- he’s- we’re business partners” Syd replied, shaking her head and taking a short drag. “He doesn’t. He’s just sick and clinging to me he’s - he’s depressed and I’m violating HIPAA or whatever by saying that but it’s honest! I’m not his type” She passed it back over to Shayna.
She took it, laughing at her HIPAA comment “Chefs aren’t bound to HIPAA regulations, but nonetheless- I’ll be honest for you, since you can’t be honest with yourself. You flew here because you want to fuck him. There’s no other explanation- no not even just fuck- you love the guy. Why else would you fly across the country to be with him? Especially when he’s due home in 11 days. No dick is that great, especially attached to a guy on that many psych meds.” She said and took a long drag.
Sydney’s heart began racing 100 miles an hour. She stopped walking, leaning against the fence, feeling like all the air had been knocked out of her lungs. She imagined this is how Carmy felt when Stardust threw him off.
“Are you- what in the Hozier Adele ass fuck. You didn’t know? Or - realize- the L word? That you love him?” Shayna said, taking another drag of the joint.
Sydney stared at the forest ahead, resting her hand on her forehead, shaking her head. “Fuck. Fuck. Oh fuck.” She swallowed hard. “Um-uh I- I feel sick? I feel- I’m gonna throw up.” Syd said, standing up and quickly walking over to the large oak tree at the end of the rows of cabins, hurling up the remainders of her lunch which was just a McDonald’s burger she’d gotten on her way back from the grocery store.
“Jesus Christ. It’s you too? What are you waiting for?” Shay followed after her, rubbing her back gently
“What do you mean-“ She’s interrupted by a gag she couldn’t hold back. “Fuck. What do you mean what’s me too?” She asked, coughing and spitting the bile taste in her mouth on the ground before leaning against the tree to catch her breath.
“Like- you and him both don’t even realize you’re in love. It’s weird as fuck. It’s usually one person chasing - but you guys are secretly chasing eachother? But also at the same time trying I dunno. One of you has to make a move though” she said, leaning on the tree next to Syd.
“What if he’s just sick? What if he’s clinging to me because he’s sick and…and I’m like manipulating him” she asked nervously
“Ahh yes because you are manipulating a grown man into not breathing when he sees you? You can do that? Can you teach me? Except I’ll use it to kill creeps” she nudged Syds shoulder, finally earning a smile back out of her.
“He doesn’t do that…” she looked at the ground sheepishly
“When we get back, I’m gonna count out loud because the oblivious fuck hears no one when you’re around, and watch he won’t be breathing. I swear it’s like the first thing I noticed looks like a fuckin fish out of water.” She said and finished the joint, stomping it out with her shoe. “Shall we put my experiment to the test?” She asks and Syd rolls her eyes.
“I wanna see what’s going on with the food let’s go” she smiled a bit, heading back with Shayna to the cabin.
It only took them 4 minutes back, Shayna walks in first and Carm’s head pops up from his conversation with Jesse at the counter, and as soon as Syd pops in behind her- Shayna quietly starts whispering “one…two…three…four..-OW!” She squeaks as Syd kicks her ankle just enough to hurt.
That was enough to break Carm out of his trance “hey- hey- how was your walk, y’okay? You look…I dunno” he came up to her, feeling Syds cheek with the back of his hand “y’flushed…” he said and she pulled away from his touch, feeling embarrassed.
“I’m fine” she said, walking back to the stove and making sure the meat was okay. “What did you do with the beef stock?” She asked, looking over the counter.
Carmy swallowed thickly “uh- sorry, sorry. Here” he went to where he put it in the cabinet and handed it to her. “We…we good?” he asked quietly.
“We’re good. Get the juniper berries please.” She said without meeting his gaze and opened the stock, pouring some in the pan.
Shayna giggles and Carm looks back at where she and Jesse were sat at the table, Jesse making a circle with his thumb and forefinger and thrusting his other finger in and out of it, alluding to their sexual tension lacing the room.
“Oh you are children.” Carmen grumbles, grabbing a beer from the fridge and rolling his eyes “want one- dipshit? Cabin check is tomorrow they all need to be gone” he said and Jesse nodded with a smug smile.
“You love your crazy camp besties pookie!!! Don’t play games cause your cool chef friend is around” Shayna said, getting up and going to the freezer, taking out 2 shots.
“Syd?” She asked and Sydney turns around, looking at the shots in her hand.
“Uh- why not. Sure. Just one” she said, taking one of them and cracking it open.
“Cheers” Shayna says, clinking her shooter with Syds
“To?” Syd asked.
“New beginnings” Shayna said simply before tilting her head back and swallowing the shot in one gulp.
“That was the best fucking food I’ve ever eaten. Have you guys ever been told you should open a restaurant?” Jesse teased, helping Carmen clear the empty dishes from table.
“Wow you really should pursue stand up, Jess” Carmy said with a small smile, collecting the 4 disposable cups they used for wine and throwing them away.
“You know who would fuckin love her Carm?” Syd motions to Shayna
“Who?” He mused, rolling up his sleeves and starting the hot water on the sink.
“Richie. They’d be menaces together but they’d be best friends!” Syd laughs a bit and Carmen gasps
“Richie!!! Yes! They would- but- Oh my god how is he? I literally- fuck. I’m so shitty I haven’t even really…like been thinkin about everyone back home other then like you and I- I guess sugar” Carmen said.
Jesse and Shayna gave eachother a ‘we’ll discuss this romcom fuckshow later’ look, before giggling amongst themselves.
“He’s- he’s Richie. He’s never gonna let me stabbing him go. Every time I tell him to do something he’s like ‘right away chef wouldn’t wanna get stabbed’ - he’s scaring the new hires, carm!” She giggled in the way that made his heart flutter like butterflies were smacking it with their wings. “And he keeps calling me cousin by mistake!! It’s getting ..really weird” she shook her head, sitting down at the table.
“You stabbed a motherfucker?” Shayna asked impressed.
Carmen laughed a bit “on accident” he told her
“Doesn’t mean it didn’t feel good he was grating my last nerve that day. But I mean…he’s okay so I’m not that bad for thinking it” she smiled and Carmen laughed, scrubbing the plates with the sponge.
“I would have stabbed this motherfucker but I just did one better and made everyone afraid to fuck with me. Everyone thinks this was a result of my attempt but it’s not.” Shayna showed off a long scar on her forearm, partially covered by a large dragon tattoo.
“You did that to yourself?” Syd asked, slightly impressed but mostly a little scared, her finger gently rubbing up the raised scar.
“Mmhmm. In college. I went to this party, this guy-“ she shook her head with a small, mischievous smile. “So he comes in the kitchen, he’s acting like a fucking bull so of course I’m staring at the weirdo, right? He looks at me- and he goes what the fuck are you looking at, bitch. And I was new, so I didn’t know it was his house. So I was like I’m looking at some meathead loosing his temper like a toddler, what the fuck are you looking at. And he just asks me who I am- and…” she sits back “I didn’t know anyone? Like…I went there to meet people. So I was like oh I’m Shayna and he just starts screaming ‘who the fuck is Shayna, does anyone at this party know a fucking Shayna?’ And he was like in my face. So I told him I was like I’m not trying to start anything here I’m minding my business back up and he goes ‘no one that looks like you is minding their own business’ and then he- he told me he knew what I was.” She said and shrugged.
“ And that I just wanted attention. And that he would give me the attention I was looking for. And then? He told everyone in the kitchen that someone better speak for me or he was gonna fuck me up.- so, I grabbed a knife from the counter, and he backed up like a pussy and was like ‘I’m kidding! I’m kidding it’s a joke I’m fucking with you!’ And I asked him if he wanted to hurt me, and he kept saying no - even though I knew he was getting ready to kick the shit out of me, probably worse. So I slit my arm, and bled on him. Then I left. And no one ever tried to out me there again.” She said and sipped her beer.
“You’re gay?” Sydney asked curiously.
“Yeah but that’s- Jesus Christ these Chicagoans” she said, and her and Jesse started laughing.
“What? What’s funny?” Syd sat up.
“she’s-“ Carmen starts
“AHT!” Shayna tisks “no, Carmen, we got to make fun of you for a month now we get to make fun of her until she figures it out. I think you’re smarter though, socially speaking” She said and Carmen gives her the finger, causing her to laugh.
“Oh- ohhhh! Wow! I wonder how he thought he could tell” Syd said and Carmen looks back at her.
“Really?! How did you figure it out so fast?!” He asked her
Syd laughs “oh because it’s the 2020’s and if someone says they were outed and it’s not about being gay, there’s only one other thing to out” she said and Carm huffs, annoyed with his own pitfalls of refusing to make friends his first 30 years.
“Yeah how would he know? I didn’t know” Carm asked her and she smiled big, looking at Jesse.
“It was fucked. Up. What you did. But if you wanna tell them? Gooo ahead.” He said with a smile, drying the dishes as Carm washed and rinsed them.
Shayna laughs excitedly, sitting up and pushing her long blonde hair back. “Okay, so. I end up finding out who this guy is, right? And apparently…his dad who was the football coach was like- DL- into trans girls- “ Carm interrupts
“What does that mean?” He asked her
“DL? Down low, like- they fuck us in private” she explained and Carmen scrunched his brows in confusion
“Why?” He asked and Shayna looked at him confused.
“Because…they think it’s gay?” She said like it was obvious, but to Carmen, it wasn’t.
“But… Y’re a girl. So how would it be gay?” He asked
“I’ll give you a ‘how humans interact with eachother’ lesson later, Carmen, for now it’s story time” she teased.
“Anyway-“ she continued “so I find this out, because I look up his name on Facebook - see his dad tagged, and I fly to Grindr- because I swore I literally saw him there. Turns out I had. So I send him a chat, we hit it off, I go fuck him-“ she said, Syd starts laughing, Carm turns around with wide jaw eyes and a dropped jaw.
“Like- oh I fuuuuucked that man. Multiple times. He didn’t fuck me- let me say that again for your cis ears to have it sink in, I fucked- this man’s father” she said - Carmen’s jaw drops further, and Jesse was howling with laughter at Syd and Carmys shocked expressions.
“No- no- Shayna- hold on I need a cigarette - Jesse take this shit over” Carmen pulls open the front door, pushing up the glass on the screen door, grabbed his beer and cigarettes from the counter, and sat next to Syd at the table. “Okay keep goin- I’ve never heard this much-“ he shook his head in amusement
“Tea? I know- it gets better!” Shayna laughs.
Carmen smirked, shaking his head and taking out a cigarette lighting it between his lips and taking a drag. “So you fucked this man’s dad.” Carmen couldn’t help but laugh at how insane the words sounded coming from his mouth- and Sydney followed suit, head falling back and eyes squeezing shut, Carmen’s heart quickened at the adorable sight, having the urge to reach out and grab her soft, delicate hand that was just a few inches from his own on the tabletop.
“Oh my god- were taking them with us back to chicago- I can’t remember the last time I laughed like this” Syd said, stealing his beer from next to him and taking a sip.
The action made Carmen’s heart skip a beat. The fact that she was comfortable drinking out of something his lips had already touched, it drove him wild. They had tried food off of the same spoon at work just so they didn’t have to go through the hassle of washing two, but this felt…different. More intimate.
“Did you- I’m sorry- did you want one?” He asked “I didn’t think you liked beer - I thought you said you like wine more” he said and she shook her head.
“We can share…right?” She asked, a bit shyly. She wasn’t sure what made her do it, maybe it was because her white claw had been long forgotten and now was luke warm on the kitchen counter, or maybe it was the few extra shots she’d been convinced into taking earlier that was causing her to take the chat with Shayna to heart.
“Yeah- course, always.” He nodded a bit. Unnoticed by Syd and Carmy, Jesse and Shayna give eachother another ‘we’re gonna talk about this romcom shit later’ look before Shayna clears her throat.
“So- yes Carmen, I fucked this man’s father. And multiple times. He was married- I didn’t fully know that though before you both look at me shitty- he didn’t say that -“ Jesse cuts her off
“Ohhhh- oh! No!!” He laughs “no- the real story- is that she saw a ring but didn’t ask about it - you may now continue” he said, turning back to the sink and rinsing the last of the dishes.
Carm snorts a laugh “evil. That is evil the man’s marriage! Shayna!” He took a drag of his cigarette and she rolled her eyes.
“It was already on the rocks- let me finish! You fucks! So then- I recorded it, and I held onto it- just in case. But. Get this- one of my girlfriends on campus? Guess who she ran into on Grindr?” She asks and Carm and Syd both lean in slightly, and Shayna can’t help but notice the way they were already so in sync.
“The fucking guy from the party” she said and Syd gasps, Carmen cracks up.
“He’s his fathers spitting image. Thats it. That’s why- that’s why he said that to you. He knows about you or whatever? Because he loves girls like you and is also a pussy.” Syd said and Carm hums in agreement.
“Exactly! Exactly. So…I had her tell him to meet her in the park- but…” she smirks and Sydney covers her mouth preemptively, knowing whatever was going to say next was going to be off the wall.
“I was there too- fucking his dad! And oops! he saw us! And I asked him if we should check and see who’s bigger- he dropped out of school the same week- and the dad resigned” she said and took another casual sip of her beer with a proud smirk.
Carmen sits there, dumbfounded, looking to Sydney who when she saw the look on his face cracked up. “Your face-“ she said, causing him to start laughing as well.
“Shay-“ he looks at her, wiping tears that were gathering in the corners of his eyes from laughing so hard. “Shayna what the fuck” he managed to get out before laughing again, shaking his head. “You are a person that I won’t ever, ever get on your shit list if I can help it” he said, looking over quickly when Syd coughs from laughing so hard
“Woah- arms up, arms up” he tells her and goes to the fridge, grabbing a water bottle and coming back quickly, opening the cap and handing it to her. She took a large sip.
“Thank you- sorry- fuck you Shayna you’re gonna kill us both I don’t think I’ve ever heard him laugh this hard” she said and Shayna smiled
“Well, that’s a good thing. this guys got a problem with having the dead inside look- at least before you got here” she nudged Carm with her elbow.
He realized he was still stood, hand protectively on the back of Syds chair looking down at her as if she was the only one in the room.
“Isn’t that why we’re all here?” Jesse countered, sitting in the empty chair next to Shayna
“I’m very alive inside- I just get too manic and start destroying my life because it’s something to do” she said and finished off her beer. “I’m already on probation cmon I need to go to my cabin and you aren’t allowed to have fun without me” she told Jesse, standing up and grabbing her bag and speaker. “Nice to meet you, Sydney. And Remember our chat hot stuff” she said as she put her bag on her shoulder.
“Yeah- we’ll probably run into each other again, I leave Sunday night.” She said, and Carmen’s heart soars.
He wasn’t sure why, he just thought maybe she’d just fly in for one night to see how he was and then leave the next day, but the fact she was staying a whole other day and a half- and they would be alone.
“Sick! Okay well we’ll link up tomorrow then, have a goodnight guys - and remember wrap it before you tap it, shortstack!” Shayna said as her and Jesse shut the door behind them and head off.
Carmen blushed pink, shaking his head. “She’s a hack, but she’s a very nice hack” Carm said, rubbing over his face embarrassedly.
“They’re super cool Carm. She’s..really fuckin out there but-“ she shrugged looking at the clock. “Oh- shit. Fuck- it is late, I don’t want you to get in trouble” she said, standing up and grabbing her coat off the back of her chair.
“You- you aren’t um…staying?” He asked and got up, grabbing her backpack she’d brought with her from the kitchen table and bringing it over.
“Oh well all of my- stuff..” she trailed off, eyes locked on his. They stayed there silent for a moment, and his heart started pounding in his chest so hard he could feel it in his stomach.
“Uh-“ he started and nervously bit the inside of his lip, he’d been doing that a lot tonight. He was holding his tongue, he always did around her. He didn’t understand it, because unless she was around it was like a part of his brain switched off, and he didn’t have access to speech in the same capacity as when she was near.
“I- so…I think um- I-“ he stops himself, grabbing his shoulder nervously and averting her gaze. His throat suddenly felt tight, this was it. He either said something, or he let her leave and he stayed up all night thinking about what he should have said when she leaves.
“Did you draw me?” Sydney asks suddenly.
Carmen feels his stomach doing flips, his palms got sweaty and all of the color drained from his face. “I-“ he crossed his arm over his chest, tightly gripping his hoodie. He suddenly felt as if he could be sick, “I’m sorry?” It came out sounding like a question.
Sydney felt insane “you- when-“ she smiled nervously “oh god- Jesus- I- it must be the-“
Carmen cut her off before she could say what would shut his entire course of action that he was trying to lay out down fully before he could attempt to put it into motion. “I meant- I meant I’m sorry if that makes you uncomfortable. Syd. That’s how I meant it. I - you remind me of home.” He said, not breaking her gaze. “And I need a little bit of that, here.” He said softly.
Syd just nods, holding on to the chair for stability. She wasn’t sure if this conversation was really happening or if she was in some insane dream. She could hardly believe Carmen was expressing himself to her, in a way other then anger or fear.
“I..I draw you a lot.” He admits, running a nervous hand through his hair. “We do uh- art..art therapy. A few hours every day”
“Can I…see them? If…if that’s okay?” She questioned.
The color came back to Carmen’s face full force, he had to be sure whichever sketchbooks he would show her had none of the explicit themed drawings. “Uh- sure. Sure…gimme a sec- I’ll um” he headed to the bedroom, opening the desk drawer and grabbing the bigger sketchbook he usually took to art therapy, the safest one since the therapist would come and look at whatever the patients were working on.
He quickly flicked through it to make sure, before heading back out to the living room where Syd had sat on the couch when he went to retrieve the sketchbook. “I’m- sorry…sorry if this is like. Weird-“ he said, feeling suddenly Insecure about his hobby that was the reprieve that got him through any of the sleepless nights he had here.
“No- no its..it’s sweet Carm, can I?” She asked, grabbing the sketchbook in his lap, their hands brushing lightly. He felt that familiar fire in his chest, and nods with a hum of agreement.
She opened it, eyebrows raising in surprise “they aren’t like-“ he started
“This is incredible-“ she cut him off and leaned over him, turning on the lamp at his side to get a better look at the portrait he had committed to memory of her smiling. He nearly shivered when her curls brushed his cheek, the smell of the perfume on her neck mixed with the familiar scent of her causing goosebumps to appear over his flesh.
“I don’t know if I should be offended that you remember the gap in my teeth so well. Because I know for a fact you aren’t on Instagram” she said. He smiled, rolling his eyes slightly
“It’s one of your nicest qualities” he shrugged a bit.
“Oh one of them? Are there many?” She smiled, flipping the page.
“I think the question should be if you have any flaws” he said, and her eyes flicked back to his.
They were now sitting so close that their faces were less then a foot apart. “I think we both know that’s bullshit.” She said
“To you maybe” his eyes flickered to her lips momentarily.
“I always catch you doing that” she teased, smiling a bit.
“Doing what?” He asked, his eyes meeting hers again.
“I dunno…staring at me..like..” she looks at his lips for a long moment before meeting his gaze once again.
“Why do you think?” He asked quietly.
“There are alot of things I can’t seem to figure out about you…Carmy” she said just above a whisper.
“Well what do you want to know. I’m uh…trying to be more open.” He said equally as soft.
“Do you know why I really came here?” She asked
“Because you saw the fuckin drawing, somehow.” He smiled a bit.
“Yes” she chuckled “but- it just..it kinda confirmed something for me I dunno- I just wanted to come check if maybe-“
She’s interrupted by his lips on hers, she was surprised at first, but of course didn’t pull away. He cupped her cheek gently, his thumb rubbing over her supple skin.
The way their lips moved together was natural, like they’d done this already a thousand times in a hundred lives. His nose gently nudges hers and she wraps her fingers in his dirty blonde curls, tugging gently how she’d fantasized so many times.
He slid his tongue over her plump bottom lip, humming softly when she opened her mouth at the contact. His hands were nearly shaking. His entire body felt like it was exploding with tiny fireworks underneath his skin.
The air between them both felt as if it was crackling with electricity. As if the universe was humming in approval that they had finally accepted their bond.
Sydney had never felt anything so right. She felt as if every stress in her life evaporated, as if her and Carmy were the only 2 people in the world. She felt like she was glowing from the inside out. “T’make sure I wanted t’do that…right?” He said softly when she pulled away.

“I’m spider-man” Niki says holding his breath right after
After a long moment of silence he looked back up at his girlfriend who had a confused expression before bursting into a fit of laughter now making Niki confused
“W-what’s funny? I didn’t tell a joke” he says tilting his head in confusion
“I-I’m sorry but you? Your spiderman? You told me you hate that guy” she says before laughing again slapping her knee
Niki side eyes her before sitting in the rail of Yn’s fire escape
“I said that so you wouldn’t suspect me” he says sighing
“I’m sorry babe but your not spiderman” she says shaking her head and wiping her tears
“Oh. So im not?” Niki says
“No babe. Jokes over” Yn says pulling out her phone leaning on the rail. Niki nods his head
“Okay. Yeah jokes over” Niki says before leaning backwards and falling off the rail
“RIKI!” Yn let’s out a shriek trying her best to reach her boyfriend but failing. Just before she could shriek or even cry, a web wraps around the railing of the fire escape and Niki was on his way back up with a very cocky smirk on his face
Landing safely on his feet, Niki stands up smirking at Yn
“Still think I’m not spiderman?” He asks
“You fucking asshole! Out of all ways too prove to me that your spiderman you fucking jump from the fire escape?!” She asks shoving him
“You weren’t believing me!” Niki says
“Show me the suit! Shoot a web at me or something! You really fucking scared me” Yn says shoving him out the way to get to her room
“Okay Yn wait” he says grabbing her waist only to be shoved away again
“Leave me alone” Yn says opening the window to her bedroom only to have Niki web it closed. Yn turns around to look at him with a glare
He grabs both of her hands bring her closer to him
“I’m sorry. I’m really sorry. That was the wrong way to go about it and I shouldn’t have done that too you. I’ll never scare you like that again. Please forgive me?” He says
“No” Yn says quickly
“Pleasssseeeeee Snookum wookum!” Niki says with a pout causing the dark skin girl to finally crack with a smile and giggle
“Fine. I forgive you but the next time you do that shit it’s your ass! And I’ll tell Jay on you” Yn says pointing her finger at him
“Nobody’s scared of jay, I’m spiderman I’ll quite literally web him to a wall” Niki says following Yn into her bedroom
“Niki stop worrying. I’ve worked the night shift before I’ll be fine” Yn says grabbing her phone from its charger
“Yeah that was one time and you also had a ride! I don’t want you walking home alone” Niki says
“It’s only a 6 minute walk Babe I’ll be fine” Yn says
“You call me if anything happens, I’m serious Yn” he says picking up her house keys to give to her
“I will now go Patrol and stop worrying about me” she says putting a claw clip onto her black, brown, and blond braids
“I’ll always worry about you” Niki says pecking her forehead before pulling his mask over his face
“And you don’t think I worry about you now that I know you spiderman?” She asks making Niki sigh
“I have super strength and super hearing and I can shoot spiderwebs from my wrist. You have nothing to worry about” Niki says making the girl slowly turn around
“So what’re you trying to say?” Yn asks
“Nothing yn. I just want you to be careful alright?” He says pulling down his mask and jumping out the window before the dark skin girl could say anything
Groaning and rolling her eyes, Yn opens her apartment door and leaving
“Yn you can go home early”
“Are you sure? You know I have no problem staying to close” Yn says to her boss
“Yn, go home and take these with you” her boss says handing her a container of left over sweets from the bakery in the cafe
“Fine, I’ll see you in the morning” Yn says with a pout
“Don’t miss me too much, see in the morning”
Yn grabs her things and leaves the shop with a wave.
She puts in one of her AirPods and gets to walking down the street to her apartment. Pulling out one of the muffins out the bag Yn turns the music down just a bit so she can be aware of her surroundings
“Excuse me sweetheart, can I please have a dollar? I’m hungry” a “homeless man” asked
“I’m sorry I have no cash on me, you can have these if you want?” She says holding out the bag of sweets
“I don’t want that shit! I know you have money” the man says standing up from the curb
“I-I don’t. I’m sorry” she says turning around to make an escape but was to late when the man hit her side with a bat.
She groans falling to the ground. The man grabs at her purse getting frustrated when the bag wouldn’t leave her shoulder
“Get! Off me!” She screams kicking the man in the knee causing him to groan and fall to his knee. Yn gets up making a run for it only for the man to also get up and be hot on her tail.
The man takes a swing for her head but she ducks making him miss. Just running Yn didn’t notice that the man wasn’t chasing her anymore
She looks back seeing the man being thrown around by her boyfriend. Ending the fight, Niki webs the man to the brick wall.
Niki dusts off his hands before walking over to her
"Call the police and i'm going to take you home" He says causing yn to just nod her head, still shaken up from what just happened
after making a police report and watching the man get arrested, Niki grabs yn by the waist, swinging her back to her apartment.
Once they arrived Niki opens the window watch the girl climb in and he climbs in after her.
"He hurt you?" He asks making yn nod her head. She pulls up her shirt showing the now purple bruise on her side. He sighs walking to the kitchen to fill up an ice pack.
handing it to her niki starts to clean up her tiny scraps
"I thought I told you to be careful" Niki says making yn roll her eyes
"I was as careful as I could be" Yn says
"If you were I wouldnt be clean scraps on your body" Niki says not making eye contact which upset the girl
she rolls her eyes pushing his hand away from her bleeding knee, getting up to go to the bathroom. She grabs her scraf off the sink tying it around her braids. She sighs in annoyance when she realized her bonnet was not on the bathroom counter. she turns around to see Niki with her bonnet in his hand
She says nothing as she turns around and allows the blond to put her braids into the bonnet.
"I'm sorry, I didnt mean to be harsh its just...anything could have happened" Niki says looking down at the tile floor not wanting to think of the possibilities that could have happened tonight
"I tried to be careful I did, It;s not my fault I was attacked" Yn mumbles
"No, Its not. I just dont want anything to happen to you" Niki mumbles pulling her into a hug
"I'll be extra careful from now on" Yn says patting his head
"Please"
"I will...now go make us some ramen" Yn says
"Really?" Niki asks
"Please? I dropped my bag of sweets" Yn asks pouting
"Fine" Niki says smiling as he goes to the kitchen
"Thank you! Love you" Yn says smiling
"Yeah love you too" Niki says smiling and glad that his girlfriend was safe
