I had a lot of the same issues with reload as I see you’re having, and I do think most of it is from the new team’s inexperience. They’re trying to recreate a game that made very purposeful decisions in its mechanics and cutscenes without understanding why those decisions were made, which really undermines the experience.

If the team had more experience under their belt, or had full creative decision on an entirely new game, I feel like they could make a really good game! Reload is not that though.

I completely agree anon. It's a shame too, because it's not an awful game, just a different one. I wish they hadn't tried to recreate FES as a test project on a shoestring budget when it was literally the benchmark for our modern Persona games. It changed so much, it's iconic, a cult classic.

I really wish they wouldn't have lied about not planning EpiAi beforehand so they could cover the fact that the game doesn't look all too good. I wish they hadn't charged $200 for an "Aigis Edition" and not include the dlc. I wish they hadn't sanitized and scrubbed the game about death and grieving of all things that were slightly upsetting. That's what ended up happening though, and as you said, they're trying to recreate a game that was very purposeful in its creation.

Reload was a cheap quick test that they knew would work because it has a wonderful story and dedicated fans. As long as they make it a fun popcorn game, they don't have to put in those purposeful additions or think about it much at all.

hey did you know that the original teleport map is slightly off center. did you know that. that’s not the case for the redraw for the record but it did make things a little harder. despite that, i think you can tell i was having fun with the dormont part of the map. i would’ve put more detail into the house, but we never really get a more detailed look at it??? and i didn’t want to make assumptions. so that part’s just traced from the original 👍. anyways shoutout to the clocktower being Curved for whatever reason

outside of those, all of the added art is actually just spritework. i didn’t know this at first, but there’s a TON of copies of sprites from the icon set. Basically Everywhere. so those are added now! and should work properly! also added a few sprites that were Missing from my original batch. not going to put them all here, but a few Important ones (which i actually had to make new art for) are the rock paper scissors cheatsheet, the Larger versions of the craft signs (used in the calamité fight and. probably somewhere else idk), and the craft signs for the tutorial kid fight!

Im just telling you all, both of them DONT know how to share. Like, come on, only child Mark Grayson v. Rex who grew up in government care? When they both found out they both wanted you, they wanted to claw each other’s throats out with spoons.

In the very beginning, it was only built on opportunities to one-up the other. Who's gonna help you with training? Who's cooking dinner with you? Who's gonna patch you up? They were fighting over everything.

But for you…? They compromise.

They still are competing, of course, but they both understand that you are there for both of them.

“Hellooooo gorgeous.” Rex pops up behind you, giving you a wet audible kiss on the cheek. You groan before giggling, wiping it away, making Mark who was across the counter from you tighten his grip on the poor carton of milk until it almost popped.

He didn't get it, Rex was notoriously know for being a dick in relationships, why would you even play with the idea of being with Rex when Mark was sooooo much better.

He was just glad you haven't accepted Rexs flirting, playing it off as Rex being Rex. He was a better choice, he would treat you right, the way you should be. He just hadn't built up enough courage to actually ask you out yet.

Rex was draped over you, blabbing and curling your pretty hair around his finger. It was like Rex already owned you, like the cat and mouse game was already won.

Mark stood up angrily and left the room, making Rex smirk, and stomped down the hall.

He needed to hit something.

Mark's eye twitched, and he swallowed down his anger. He knew he wasn't as experienced as Rex or you were, you being a 2 year college student already and Rex being…well, Rex. Mark had barely had a make-out session, if you could call it that.

He blushed, turning back to continue hitting the punching bag.

“Probably,” he smirked, “but I don't see them taken, so…”

One hand on his knee as you lean over, pointing to a panel innocently, and Rex is ready to blow up the living room just to get you away from pretty boy Grayson. Like seriously, why would you like Mark who hasn't even seen a boob in real life since he was a baby?!

Rex huffs into his mug, pouting as your heavenly giggle sounds and echoes in his brain like a church chior, only for it to sound like nails on a chalkboard when Mark peaks over his shoulder and smugly looks at Rex.

He might just have to stage a disappearance, Nolan and Debbie would get over their son being gone eventually, he just needed Mark fucking away from you.

Rex might just break the handle of the mug off and thrust it into his eye socket if he hears Marks shitty flirting one more time.

Rex glared, watching him bench-press the weight of a ducking tank like it was as light as a pillow, “yeah, we're tied now.”

Mark grunts, and locks the machine to sit up, “I didn't know this was a competition.”

Rex crosses his arms, scoffing as Mark wipes his sweaty face with a towel, “of fucking course its a competition, Space ranger, we both want her-”

“Exactly.” Mark cuts him off, ears pink. He huffs, dark eyes turning to Rex. He sighed, running a hand through his inky strands before tugging, “its painfully obvious we both want her…”

“Yeah…and? Its not like we can shareeeohhhhh. Oh. Oh.” and Rex begins to connect the dots, of course pretty boy Grayson swung both ways…

He smirks, thinking before walking over and sitting on the bench next to him.

“I think we can come to a sort of an agreement, Grayson.”

“You guys…want to share me?”

They were in your room, both boys nodding and eyes staring at you as the pout.

“Hey, the other plan was to fight yo the death so-”

“No, no…no. No need…i guess we could try it out?”

Rex is the first one on you, grabbing your face and slamming his lips on your and making you squeek.

“Fuck…I've wanted to do that since we first met.”

Mark blushes, out if his element as he watches two of the hottest people he's ever met make out sloppily. He swallows, not knowing what to do, were to put his hands.

He's debating on just coming back later until you break the kiss with Rex and tug him down to slot his lips on yours.

He tenses, eyes wide, but than relaxes and moans softly into your lips as his hand rises to your cheek.

Rex grins, latching his mouth to your neck. You gasp, Mark whimpers and chases your lips before grabbing both sides of your face and forcing his tounge down your throat.

Hands reaches and pops the button of your jean before bullying his hand into your pants, Rexs hand, and your brain turns off.

You shuttered, head falling to Marks shoulder as Rex begins to work you, Mark mumbling sweet things in your ear as his hands move under your shirt.

Yeah, ive done like... 3 pieces of her max but she gets SO many asks lol. the story isn't really ready for her yet, and i'd like to finish what im working on before i do more with her, but i'll give the basic rundown.

she LITTERALY started as a joke baby post but she got so much interaction i said i'd expand on her design and now she seems to just have a following of simps (oops, like lamb like daughter)

most of the old ideas for ewen and nari with her are out of date now on the art, but heres a bunch of plot and some unposted sketches under cut

Nari and Ewen are married and leading the cult still. all the siblings have kids, grandkids and even great grandkids (excluding shamura). Its only after they decide having a child is someone for them to love and raise, not someone who they're forcing the cycle of trauma on that they have Bell. And they adore her. While growing up, one by one, the former bishops, all her aunts, uncles, and shamura decided it was time to peacefully end their long lives. So she sees death as a good thing, the satisfying end to a long life story. So when Ewen and Narinder are ready to die together, even though they say she doesn't have to, she takes on the crown and ends if for them with a last "i love you" between them. She runs the cult now which is more themed around their shared neck wound "rings" and their relationship than just the lamb. She's called "the black sheep" by her followers (or queen if they're kinky, princess when shes younger). she wields the crown as a pair of horns and a sythe, sine the cult of the black rings also referenced Ewen's large black horns and she keeps up the theme.

Baal and Aym are her "brothers" (more of her body guards and technically her cousins but she refuses to call them anything else) and her body guards, staying after their master's death. They've known her since she was a baby and still treat her as one sometimes. She's VERY protective over them, but also will bully them sometimes, like kicking their asses when training and saying they're just going easy on her like when she was a kid, knowing full well she's overpowered by the crown.

Because shes such an oddity, the mystic seller assigned one of their followers to keep an eye on her and, much like her "ba ba" she found the overpowered demigod shes now obsessed with. With some help from Ewen before they passed, they were able to translate their glyphs. Now that helper follows her around disguised as a poor imitation of a regular mortal to better understand her and the mortal realm. Or at least thats what she convinced them to do since she wants them around <3 probably not to their masters liking lol. I haven't decided on a name yet. Bell eventually give them the purple crown (they/it)

Before they left, Narinder was trying to reawaken the crowns, whether for the memory of his siblings, or that the cult was growing too large to be centered on the red crown. They're not very powerful right now and Bell is the leader of the others, more like a babysitter.

The blue crown is with Kalliope (kalli for short) (she/her), a distant relative of Kallamar's who had to fight, both physically and socially, with all her other of age relatives to get the chance, since Kallamar's polycule made a LOT of kids and grand kids. She's kind of bitchy about it and whines about everyone not respecting her or how hard she worked. shes a flamboyant cuttlefish and trans femme. also the crown is worn like an earring. Bell has little tolerance for her and they have a lot of bitchy girl fights.

The green crown is with isop (a kinda combo of isopod and aesop) (he/him) who is a rubber ducky isopod. he's Leshy's great great grandkid, and really only god the crown because no one else on the peaceful forest farm leshy put together in his later years really wanted it and figured it meant free babysitting. he's pretty young and small with a fascination for chaos and violence that only little kids without developed social perception can have, though he more watches at this point. The others tend to carry him or he rolls around in a little ball. The crown is worn like glasses.

The orange crown is with Mycelia (lia for short) (they/them plural) who is a homunculus mushroomo made through experimentation by Heket and Sozo before they died. they're the only one who is actually older than Bell. They're undying because they're a hive mind of all the mushroomo, who have been progressively growing. They can see everything the others see, can spout new bodies when needed and even feed on their own dead bodies. Bell sometimes just kills them when they're frustrated with them or other things. They'd be a threat but they're very monotone and emotionless about pretty much everything and don't care. They've worked with the red crown just because death is a natural boon to fungus and keeps them alive. The orange crown is worn as a necklace.

Question about deathbed: i havent seen much about it yet but what ive seen doesnt make it sound very...fun to be alive in that world and that its like influenced by practices of the christian church during the middle ages and stuff like that, so im wondering how that would affect being able to even really play a woman being badass in that game?

Is it basically hardmode difficulty if you wanna play a woman?

I have two answers to this.

First is that in Death Bed, a woman can be badass. I’ll demonstrate by making Herr Rike, an old literary and AD&D character of mine, in Death Bed. @thepleasuregoblin @ashweather and @umbraldame can attest that she is just about the most believably badass person there is. (Despite the title of “Herr,” she is a woman and always has been. Well she’s female, technically she isn’t human and in her setting “woman” is a human-specific term while other sapient species have their own terms for genders but you get the point.)

I’m not gonna go through this very granularly because in Death Bed most stats are rolled, start out very low, and then are upgraded one at a time by level-ups. But over the course of building her stats up to where they should be to represent her I would focus on Agility, Scripture, Dexterity, Vigor, Strength, Endurance, Arcane, and Attunement from highest to lowest in that order.

For Traits, I would get her

(this is a men-only Trait, and also one I will probably nerf before final release, but a female character can still take it, at a price.)

(she isn't actually humble, but the effect of this Trait fits her personality.)

I might also consider giving her Gentleman (Men only.) but at the moment in the game’s unfinished state that Trait has an unclear interaction with Lady.

Yes, she does have both men-only and women-only Traits, that’s allowed, it just reduces her Social Status. I rolled it and at the end of all those Traits she still has a Social Status of 27, which is fairly high.

Social Status is a stat representing how respectable the character is by the standards of 1400s society. It determines who gets to talk down to and degrade who. What the higher Social Status character says goes, and if this pecking order is challenged, that tends to distress people.

Characters who have Traits which fall outside their perceived gender suffer a debuff to Social Status, because that’s just how it was back then. Hell, that’s how it is today.

So she could kill monsters and shit with a sword just fine, the worst she would get is maybe the occasional weird look, especially since, in the Middle Ages, it was irregular but not strictly forbidden for women to practice martial arts. The super strict sex-segregation of martial arts was way more of a Renaissance and onward thing.

Now for the second answer.

A lot of what our cultural idea of what is “cool” and “badass” is extremely masculine-favoring. And while yes, swords and armor and violence are cool and badass, (I’m not immune to thinking that the things knights do is cooler than the things their wives do.) a lot of “feminist” or “egalitarian” or otherwise “pro-women” media that is historically set ends up having the message “This woman is badass and cool because she’s.. like a man, unlike those other lameass women who are like women.”

It ends up being the medieval version of that action movie trope that goes like

Male Lead: (pleasantly surprised) “You know how to fight and be badass?”

Female Lead: *racks shotgun* “I grew up with 7 brothers and so I had to learn how to play rough and played army instead of Barbie dolls and I didn’t have a mother and my ex-special-forces dad taught me how to fight starting at a young age. All that masculinity helped me grow up to be cool and tough woman instead of a boring helpless stupid woman.”

instead of, like, celebrating the other 99% of women in that time period who just did woman stuff.

Death Bed allows you to make a character that is a woman but effectively fills the social roles of a man such as killing stuff with a sword*(which is something just about every other TTRPG on the planet also allows), and it allows you to make a character that is a woman and fills all the more normal social roles of a woman while still being a very valuable asset to the party both in and out of combat (and Death Bed has a lot of “out of combat” stuff going on. It’s a classic dungeon crawler, which involves a good amount of combat, but is not purely combat and a party needs plenty of characters who are focused on other things if they want to survive.)

*and again, this wasn’t even something women were strictly barred from doing at the time.

Fencing Master: (Men only. +1 Social Status.) This struggler has +1 Scripture, +1 Strength, +1 Dexterity, and +1 Agility. Additionally, upon gaining this Trait, give him any three Weapon Special Attribute Masteries, selected at random from those he does not already have. Additionally, reduce his Hollowness by 1 each time he gains a new Special Weapon Attribute Mastery. However, this struggler must make a Despair roll any time his martial technique is called into question or disrespected, unless he proves himself. If he attempts to prove himself and fails, he must take an added instance of disadvantage to this Despair roll. He must also make a Despair roll each time his weapon is reduced in Maintenance Rating as a result of a failed attack roll. 

Additionally, this struggler gains 2x the EXP from engagements in which he fights alone without allies. 

Frightening Demeanor: (+1 Social Status.) So long as this struggler is not a non-combatant, apply a -1 to this struggler’s Attention each time their Attention is increased. However, apply an added instance of disadvantage to their reaction rolls. 

Humble: (+0 Social Status.) This struggler’s good nature is a bulwark to disrespect. They gain an added instance of Advantage to any despair rolls related to disrespect. They gain an additional added instance of advantage to any despair roll related to disrespect from characters of lower Social Status. 

Lady: (Women only. +3 Social Status.) This struggler has an added +3 to Scripture,[1] and an instance of advantage on reaction rolls. However, she must take an added instance of disadvantage to any Despair roll resulting from being disrespected by a man or woman of lower social standing, and must make a Despair roll up to once per Scene in which she is not wearing fine women’s clothing.[2][3]

[1. Sidebar] Literacy was considered the domain of noblewomen, clergy, and scribes.

[2. Sidebar] This Trait does not require the struggler to be a non-combatant. Though it was unorthodox for them to participate directly in battle, women of noble standing were not barred from martial training. In fact, a nobleman’s wife was expected to command his levies in battle should their home be attacked while he is away.

[3. Sidebar] Wearing fine women’s clothing does not preclude the wearing of most armor, so long as the visibly feminine elements are preserved.

Additionally, up to once per Scene, this struggler gains 100 EXP if she goes the entire Scene without getting her shoes or dress muddy, wet, or otherwise dirty. [gains EXP from reading literature or eating fine food and drinking fine wine? Figure this out.]

Paranoid: (-1 Social Status.) This struggler has an added instance of advantage to Agility rolls to avoid triggered traps, and, once per Hourglass, the player of this struggler can ask that the Narrator reveal to their struggler any and all traps in a room or general surrounding area and the Narrator will do so. However, they must make a Despair roll if they ever accidentally trigger a trap, or if anyone ever startles them such as by walking up behind them or waking them from their sleep.

Also, when the Narrator makes a wandering monster roll, the player of this struggler may ask that the result be revealed to them, but if they do so, this struggler makes a Despair roll.

Up to once per Scene, this struggler gains 10 EXP for being right about the dangers that lurk nearby.

Sharp Tongue: (+0 Social Status.) This struggler’s quick tongue and quicker wit allow them to wind around any social slight with the agility of a skilled fencer. At this struggler’s choice, they can cause the object of their ridicule either an added instance of advantage or an added instance of disadvantage to any Despair rolls related to disrespect from this struggler. Either advantage or disadvantage is doubled if their words are actually said in dialogue or at least summarized and the Narrator deems their remark sufficiently clever.

Tactician: (+1 Social Status.) Once per engagement, this struggler can bark out a specific order to an ally with a Social Status up to 3 degrees higher than their own, or any degree lower.[1] If the ally they are ordering complies, that ally gains an instance of Advantage to the next 3 rolls that carrying out that order may entail. However, if the ally refuses or fails to carry out this order, then this struggler must make a Despair roll. If the ally dies as a result of attempting to carry out this order, then this struggler must make a Despair roll with an instance of Disadvantage.

[1. Sidebar] This can be done even if this struggler is a non-combatant.

Additionally, this struggler gains 5 EXP for each successful roll on the aforementioned next 3 rolls made by their ally complying with their orders.

So I went to Desucon Frostbite!!

So long story short I’d heard good things about artist alleys in Finland and had been trying and failing to get into one for some time. But then by some miracle Desucon finally let me in! so me and my dear friend @kotikaleo went there. It was both of ours first con in Finland and my first time selling outside the Baltics.

This was our table. And ohh did people not lie about the Finnish artist alleys - it was insanely busy I’ve never seen masses like this in front of my table before. I think since the first people came up until the very end of the selling period there was MAXIMUM 5 minutes when there was nobody in front of the table and it took like an hour before we could even get a proper picture

needless to say it was my best sales yet at any event, which is especially insane considering we only had one day for selling. I definitely hope to come back here in the future

But I especially wanna draw attention to the slugcat print and Hunter charm - by @ javicterry on instagram. From what they said they were seen as The Rain World artist at finnish cons and I LOOVEd the initial interaction when they came to our table like “I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE !!!”. We also got to hang out a bit on the second day of the event and after the con and it was really nice. It was my first time seeing someone I didn’t already know selling rw art at a con and I’d been looking forward to that happening. I really hope we can interact more in the future

Speaking of cool finnish rain world artists-

I already showed this before but of course I have to mention it again for this summary post. But I got to meet @excessive-moisture as well!! Since I first did the Moon in a suit cosplay we’d been floating around the idea of meeting at a con at some point since neighboring countries and all so I’m so so happy we actually got to make it happen. I was a bit nervous that the interactions would not go smoothly and it’d just turn into slightly awkward onesided fan behavior on my end but noooo it actually went really really well and it was a nice egoboost to see someone I semi-look-up-to see me as a cool person as well. Holding out hope we can make something happen again in the future

As mentioned I was cosplaying Moon again. I actuallyyyy didn’t get more than a couple pictures and none of them even from myself. The first day I was busy sitting at my artist table and the second day I was busy sitting at various other artist and not artist tables and fighting stomach problems

As for general cons I currently have no confirmed ones for the future but I applied to and hope to be at J-Tsoon 6 in Tallinn 🇪🇪 and Comic Con Baltics in Vilnius 🇱🇹 in spring!

Hello! First of all i just wanted to say im a huge huge fan of FD and all of your art, you are immensely talented and are feeding the WordGirl fandom so good, we all thank you

I just wanted to ask for some clarification on the comic’s timeline. I know maybe establishing this is not a huge priority, I just wondered if you could clear some of my doubts

We know the comics goes, in chronological order, from 9.5, 8.5, then 1-9 (at least currently). In ch. 1, it states there is a 5 year time skip, presumably from the final episode of the original airing, in which Becky is 11. Chapter 1 is the “present” of the story, and while we could assume Becky is 16, later on in a post you reveal she is actually 17, and Tobey is 18. The difference is only one year and it doesnt really matter much, i just wanted to point this out because I wanted to ask from when does this 5 year time skip take place?

Another moment I wanted to point out is the timeline of Tobey’s situation. We see that inside the alleged 5 year time skip, at least 2 years(?) before Ch 1, Ch 9.5 takes place. We still don’t have the second part but from what I understand, something happened which changed Tobey’s behavior dramatically, back into his old villain habits, and thats Ch 8.5. The thing is, Tobey then spent a year in jail and went back to school after Becky’s letter. That’s the closest point in the past that we have to the present. How long were Tobey and the whole gang friends as seen in Ch 9.5? How long has it been between Ch 8.5 and Ch 1 (starting after he went back to school)? Is the timeskip of 5 years potentially relative to some other event we are yet to see after the original airing but before Ch 9.5?

Also, how old are Becky and Tobey in Ch 8.5 and 9.5, respectively? Tobey states in Ch 5 that Becky and he were never really friends, and later states in Ch 8.5 that she probably hates him. I understand that Tobey’s head is kind of screwed up big time and he’s probably got a distorted view of what’s really going on, but did they maybe have a falling out or something of the sorts before Ch. 8.5 and the present? If the answer is yes, I understand you’d probably not reveal anything because afterall you’re still writing the comic so It would just be revealed later when you wanted to reveal it. Still, I can’t help but ask.

Also this doesn’t have anything to do with the comics but I gotta ask. Your line work is phenomenal, how did you learn to draw like that? Are you self taught or had classes/went to art school? I know this is a really bothersome question for lots of artists, but I’m just so fascinated by your art, I was wondering if you could talk a little about your art style, it really is captivating how well you draw these characters, how emotional all of the panels feel

This is long one.

I will try to cover everything. My headcanon is that Becky was 12 years old at the end of the main series.. In theory she should be 17 in a 5 year time-skip.

However.. When I wrote chapter one I was going to have them all be 17 years old like Invincible in Season one. I changed this because I want all of them to be out of high school now that they are fighting crime. It would make no sense for them to still be in school. Invincible had all the young characters balance senior year and crimefighting but I just wanted to scrap all that.

Chapter 8.5 happens after the events of Chapter 9.5. Here is a timeline:

(Prequel) Chapter 9.5: Becky and friends are sophomores in high school. With the release of the full chapter you already know how Tobey and Beckys friendship started and ended (15-16 years old).

(Prequel) Chapter 8.5: (End of the chapter) One year after sophomore year since Tobey spent one in jail.. Skipping Junior year. They are now seniors. Tobey has returned from jail and under house arrest still dealing with the consequences of his crimes (16-17 years old).

Chapter 1: Close to the end of senior year of high school. Becky is attacked by Rex in a misunderstanding. Tobey visits Beckys memorial when she is thought to be dead. They have not spoken since the night in the park when they were sophomores (18 years old).

Tobey is insecure and doesnt believe anyone would actually be friends with him. With the discovery of Beckys notebook attempting to “fix” Victoria, Eileen, and Tobey he doesnt believe she ever cared about him (Cough the letter at the end of 9.5 says otherwise). Despite this Tobey still believes their friendship was a sham. He was also never close with Scoops and Violet as they never tried to connect with him out of fear. They are right to be though. He is/can be psychopathic.

I am self-taught and my work really isnt all that. But I appreciate it and am happy to hear. I am inspired by animanga. Sorry if the timeline was confusing as well. I never expected to write much of this comic. There are some plot holes and retcons most people have not even mentioned yet.

“so annoying,” wanderer hisses under his breath, cursing again. his breath is on your skin, almost as scorching as the scowl he’s wearing. “infuriating. is your hobby getting on people’s nerves?”

“is your hobby degrading your patients?” you retort, then yelp when he tightens the bandage a little too hard. “ow— fuck you!”

he smirks smugly at your defeated glare, but it fades quickly and back to a frown when blood seeps from the cloth. 

you murmur and fidget, “sorry for inconveniencing you.”

his gaze snaps up, sharp. that was probably the wrong thing to say.

“thanks for helping me…?” you try instead. he rolls his eyes.

wanderer stares at your plastered arm for a moment too long, eyes tracing the curve of your elbow, where blood is seeping and staining the once beige bandage dirty red. he then sneers, a snarl of teeth; you can almost see in his eyes where he’s replaying the exact moment you were picked up and thrown to the ground.

you almost want to say that shouki no kami did the same thing to you (read: the balladeer himself), but you have a feeling that those canines aren’t for show, and he’ll end up biting your arm off or something.

you’re startled out of your skin when he suddenly grabs your chin with his hand, rough and demanding you to get a clear view of his displeased expression. ...and yet the grip he has on your injured arm is gentle. a mess of contradictions, a push and a pull, a scowl and a brush of skin—hate, and love.

“when will it get in your fucking head—” he enunciates each word by pulling you closer and closer to him, until your faces are a heavy breath away, “—that you have travel companions for a reason? am i just for show? a doll for you to show off?”

instinctively, you back away, a little bit of fear racing in your heart at the familiar hostile face he’s making. “it’s not that! it’s— i wasn’t— thinking.”

“right. because nothing ever goes in that pretty little head of yours,” wanderer muses, readily agreeing.

“hey,” you fume, face burning.

“you disagree? prove me wrong, then.” he still doesn’t let go of your face. and although puppets do not need to breathe, there’s warm air shared between the two of you where his lips are in close distance with yours. “prove to me that you aren’t forgetting i can fight just as well as you. that i am completely capable of protecting myself and you.”

“that’s not…” you want to say that your little incident didn’t involve any of that, but his gaze is fierce. you realize that it may not be your intention, but it might be what came off to him. “...okay.”

after a beat, you add; an afterthought, “you don’t have to protect me. you saw that i was able to beat their asses easi—” at his unimpressed stare, you correct yourself, “—with a bit of slipping here and there. still, i won.”

“not without an almost severed arm.”

without thinking too much about it, you say, “let’s protect each other, then.”

surprise flits across wanderer’s expression before it settles into something like muted satisfaction. “don’t make it a promise, so you can’t break it.” it’s the closest you can get a ‘yes’ out of him.
