#I've heard some things about season 2 after I stopped watching and season 3

Continuing on my mcd thoughts from last night, I actually cannot believe that Garroth betrayed Aphmau and Phenoex Drop, not because he was under some sort of spell but out of his own free will because he felt entitled to Aphmau's love and attention! I think that the craziest thing is that when middle school me watched the last episodes of season one I actually felt bad for HIM! And now that I'm older I have a completely different opinion on him and his character. He used to be my favorite character from any of Jess' series, so watching the season finale for the first time in 9 years and realizing that the selfless character who I adored acted like a man baby because the woman he'd never had a relationship with or even confessed his love to was dating someone.... it hurts, but I still stand by my theory that this and the way Laurence did a 180 in season 2 and also felt entitled to Aphmau's love being was Jess intentionally sabotaging them so garmau and laumau fans would stop harassing her. Because it doesn't make sense, neither one of then would act this childish and it pissses me off.

Also, I still wonder what it was that made Jess timeskip 15 YEARS!! I tried watching season two twice but stopped each time because admittedly middle school me was a toxic garmau shipper and it pissed me off that 1.) laumau was getting more moments and 2.) that it was obvious that Aph would end up with Aaron. But now that I don't gaf about any of these ships, I think I can actually finish season 2 this time. But watching these episodes is so difficult because it's soooo fucking sad are you kidding me?! I actually teared up when she said goodbye to Levin and Malichi because I knew they wouldn't see her for 15 years and that she had missed their childhood. And Zoey...I've heard that people in that fandom headcanon her as a lesbian who was in love with Aphmau because why else would she take care of her kids even before Aphmau and the others left, for free and getting nothing in return?? I of course love the idea of Zoey being a lesbian, but her spending 15 years of her life trying to bring her back from Irene's dimension and giving up her immortality in the process......it just makes me sad. This whole season makes me sad. I don't know how I can do the impossible feat of watching till the end when I cry every other episode.

Arcane Act 3 Theories (and my take on Caitlyn so far)

Just finished watching the Act 2 and, good Lord, this was... something. I've been talking with my friend a lot about it and possible future of the show, so I thought to share it here for people to discuss it with me.

OBVIOUSLY, SPOILER WARNINGS! If you didn't watch the act 2 yet, do NOT read.

A few things I want to focus on here:

Vander

Cait & Vi & Jinx trio

Viktor

Let's start with Vander. Man, this whole thing broke me. I wasn't expecting a good outcome considering we know now that he is Warwick, and the current state of Warwick is no longer human. I assume he is not completely dead, I'm sure Singed had some fucked up idea on how to transfer the mind of Vander to another beast. I do imagine, however, that either Viktor's death, or the blast done by Isha, might have removed anything human that was left of him. Singed has spoken about Vander's strong resilience and will to live, so some part of him was still alive - after that explosion, my theory is, the Vander we know is gone now. I suppose next act we will see Warwick in it's pure beast form.

Next point: have you guys noticed anything about the scene between Silco, Vander and Vi/Jinx's mom?

Silco is an obvious representation of Jinx, it was obvious from the first season, even his hairstyle is somewhat similar to hers.

Vander is Vi, in its purest form, he even ironically gave her name.

Their mother, Felicia, is... oddly so similar to Caitlyn.

We know that Silco and Vander haven't been getting along too much, even before the betrayal we know of in season 1. Felicia even happens to scold them a bit before the scene starts. However, they all seem united together, in peace and harmony, especially with the news that Felicia was pregnant. You can see that Silco came closer when he heard the news, and the whole 'Blisters and Bedrock'... I might start using that one. My theory is, what if Caitlyn somehow plays a part in bringing Jinx and Vi closer? While I know that in League of Legends, Vi and Jinx are not allies at all, however, it's not the first story line that was different in Arcane to the lore of League. They were already getting along in order to help Vander, and you can see how much Vi started to soften up when she saw the interactions between Isha and Jinx. Now that Isha is dead, and I think we don't need to argue that she is most definitely dead, Jinx will need Vi. Question is, of course, whether Caitlyn will be able to get over her grief and hatred towards Jinx due to her mother's death, but she did manage to control herself when she met her (yes, she was angry at first, cut her some slack though, you don't just get over stuff like that).

Something tells me, due to the trailer of Act 3, that Jinx might help protect both Zaun and Piltover from Ambessa and Viktor. What if Caitlyn plays the same role as Felicia played for Silco and Vander before she died? Who knows, if she was still alive, maybe Silco and Vander wouldn't get into the mess they got.

(I also want to take a moment and defend Caitlyn here: while you guys were angry at her, please take a moment and transfer that anger on Ambessa instead. Caitlyn was in a grief, blaming herself for everything that went down with Jinx, because she could have stopped her and she didn't, leading to many deaths, including her mom's. She also was thrown into being a head of her family, having to accept the legacy. AND she didn't have a moment to sit down and work with her grief, due to the whole Enforcer role she is playing. While what she said to Vi, about her being 'just as bad' as Jinx, wasn't good, but it was also justified from her eyes. In her eyes, Vi wasn't defending Isha from being shot, she was defending Jinx, and i'm pretty sure we all saw, including Caitlyn, that Vi hesitated killing Jinx even before Isha jumped in to save her. Ambessa used Caitlyn in an unstable position, but AS SOON as Caitlyn saw Vi, and Caitlyn told her about Vander, she SNAPPED BACK. Caitlyn was never evil. She was broken. And her romance with Maddie - please remember there is an obvious time skip between act 1 and act 2, and act 3 also seems to be happening after some time passed. She was allowed for a new relationship, considering that her relationship with Vi lasted... 1 episode anyway.)

Now for my biggest theory with everything that happened to Viktor. I think we can all agree that Viktor is not dead. And while everyone is hating Jayce now, let me just say this: did you see in what state he was? All of the PTSD flashbacks and hallucinations? He has seen something TERRIBLE. While you like Viktor, so do I, please understand that Jayce wasn't acting like this for nothing. My theory is, since Jayce is either from the future, or some alternative reality he travelled to, and, before he killed Viktor, we heard a flashback of him talking to someone and 'I promise I won't fail this time', I assume that this is all Ekko's doing. Since Ekko and Heimer are not in the picture yet, something tells me that Ekko finally became stronger and learned to craft his trinkets for time travel better than before. I think he sent Jayce back to stop Viktor, either from the future or from that alternative reality. Additionally, I think this is all a big mistake on Ekko's part, too. Viktor talked to Singed about fate, and if we know of fate, Jayce and Ekko did not stop the events they were trying to stop. By killing Viktor, and him coming back to life somehow, this sort of betrayal probably removed his last hope in humanity, which will lead to the 'glorious evolution' and Viktor becoming a full cult leader with machine-like ideology. While Viktor seems to be good, he did still start a cult, and shreded people he healed from actual humanity. They were acting in the way Viktor wanted them to act, he could connect his mind to theirs like puppets. His intentions were pure, but the outcome was already bad. We can only imagine how bad it got in the future or that reality. And with Jayce hurting Viktor's 'human body', Viktor will completely loose his mind and turn to metal as he did in the League of Legends lore. I assume he will be the reason Piltover is getting attacked as well. And, since we all saw Oriana's picture, but not her in her current state, something tells me that Viktor will help Singed create Oriana the way we know her - a full robot with some resemblance to her real self.

Here's a thing though:

I think Jayce saw the future, but not how it happened. I think him, and possibly Ekko, decided that, by killing Viktor, they can stop this future from happening, but I actually think they made it worse. I think the whole reason Viktor went insane is because of this event. It's a Greek Tragedy. While they thought killing Viktor will stop him, they actually created a monster instead.

I'll be sad to see Viktor be evil, but, in a way, it all makes sense. In a very tragic way, but it does.

What if the Hextech is actually something from the Void? It's purple.

Alternative theory would be that, while Jayce and Heimer and Ekko were trapped in the core, and while Viktor was actively messing around with it, Jayce witnessed what it does to people that Viktor has been 'fixing'. He does hallucinate some kind of zombies when he looks at the people that Viktor interracted with. Though, then I would not know how Jayce was the only person who got out. Maybe that rune in Jayce's wrist will explain all of it.

This was all of my theories for now.

Chapter 236

Gojo actively chose to fight on December 24th (a day considered romantic for Japan) which is now the day both Geto and him have died on. Even Kenjaku acknowledges the days significance with

"Ha ha! How romantic. Isn't it gross to make plans with each other on Christmas eve?"

I don���t want spoilers really but the only thing I’m very very curious about is who of the two might come to a realization at the end. Is there any way you could disclose it? Thank you! I was hesitant to post about my thoughts on the leaks initially but I'm so glad it has given people at least a little bit of comfort.

I'll try to answer your question without giving away any major spoilers, but at the end, if you'd like more details, please feel free to let me know ♡

I personally believe that it was Daryl who started to realise his feelings by the end of the season, although I have heard some very compelling arguments from some of my friends on here who believe that it was Carol.

But without going into too much detail here are a few of the reasons why I personally think it's Daryl.

To go back for a moment, I personally think that Carol realised her feelings for Daryl a long time ago. If I had to, I'd say it became apparent to me when I saw the episode No Sanctuary (S5EP01)for the first time many years ago. Some might say that it was even earlier than that. But the look on her face when she saw Daryl again in the episode after so long told me everything I needed to know. Additionally, I think the main show was a lot more transparent with us about how Carol felt, through her visions and dreams, compared to Daryl, who was more closed off at the time.

Daryl's reaction to Ash, especially when he's watching Carol and Ash as they reunited. And the questions that he asks Carol about Ash.

The way he couldn't take his eyes off Carol, even when they weren't next to each other. This was especially obvious to me in episode 6 where it looked to me like he was longingly watching her from afar.

There's a moment in episode 6 where Carol and Daryl are in a bit of a predicament, and they lock eyes and just silently look at each other for a moment, followed by Daryl breaking that silence by telling her "I know" 💔

This one isn't a huge spoiler because it's part of the plot as we know it, but there's a line where Daryl is talking to Carol and he says " And I never, ever, stopped trying to get home to you." Daryl doesn't say he never stopped trying to get home... her intentionally adds the "you", because he wanted to make it clear that he wanted to get back to HER and not just home in general.

There are a couple of other very important points that contain huge spoilers (from episode 2 & 3) which I couldn't avoid sharing if I wanted to explain them properly, so I've left them out for the moment. However, I will talk about them in detail when I share my thoughts on the individual episodes as they come out.

What's confusing to me after watching the leaks (aside from just having no English subtitles for the French scenes, which was desperately confusing, please watch this when it airs - but it was 6 Carol episodes for my birthday so I watched it anyway) is that Zabel said no Caryl, and this season really felt like Caryl build-up.

I've been a "Carol and Daryl are best friends and soulmates first, and if they go romantic, good, if they don't, fine" stancer since Season 2. So going in, knowing about that interview, I watched for Carol first, expecting nothing further from her and Daryl than what we've had. "Do It For Her" style.

On that note, I was quite satisfied. A good six Carol plot episodes back to back would have been a rare treat in the main series.

Some things she did that made me sigh: lying to Ash, though it appeared impulsive and she almost seemed to try to talk him out of helping her after.

Some things she did that me proud: actually really trying with the ecologist woman who spared her, shouting after those two soldiers chasing civilians so she could gun them down and prevent the civilians they were chasing from getting hurt, showing compassion for Isabelle and stopping her search for her best friend to help her, stopping outside the window when that old lady was getting threatened and going in guns blazing to try to help her even though it would have been safer for her to stealthily exit with Daryl, snorting derisively at gunpoint when Genet tells her she could never understand her loss, telling Ash the truth, staying behind to cover him and avoid separating from Daryl.

Then there was the final scene with her holding the knife to a vision of herself. We know what happened to her in the comics. We know how hard it is for her to keep living after what she's been through. She held the knife to her own throat...and didn't. "Sophia" visited her, and Carol tremulously asks if she can go with her, and Sophia leaves, turns back, but Carol doesn't follow. Twice in as many minutes, Carol chooses to live.

I've heard Melissa McBride had a great deal of say in Carol's arc this season, and I think it shows. That's why I suggest: do it for her. I don't want her copping the blame for the various cringe moments in this season that didn't involve her.

That being said, and what confuses me after that interview, there really does feel like there was a lot of Caryl buildup. She was clearly pained when she was informed, multiple times, that Isabelle and Daryl were a (15 seconds of cringe) thing. Daryl asked her if she had the "hots for" Ash in an apparently-dismissive-but-actually-kind-of-miffed tone. This does not strike me as bestie behavior.

In what fairness I can mete out to Daryl (sigh), he very seriously, very pointedly told Carol he loved her last time they saw each other, and she immediately turned it into a "omg bestie I love you too!!" energy thing because she isn't ready to confront those feelings for him. She says this season while they're at the plane: "If I lose you I couldn't go on" (or something to that effect) and I think she views expressing her feelings to him as a serious risk and potential outlet for losing him.

Anyway, Daryl may have taken that energy switch after he told her he loved her as a very gentle rejection. This is just to try to understand the headspace they're both in.

The brave old lady tells Carol to her face that Daryl loves her (under the impression she's Isabelle, but Carol has quite the face journey) and that true love is rare. The old man remarks they bicker like a married couple. It was at this point I actually became confused, because didn't they say this wasn't going to happen? And I, troubled, thought, "If they're going to do this they need to lay the groundwork now and do it in Season 3," instead of rushing it like Daryl and Isabelle, because if Daryl and Carol are going to go canon, I don't want it to be a long look and 15 seconds smooching.

Carol asks Daryl at one point (regarding losing a child) "What, are you afraid of ending up like me?" in a biting tone (anticipating Daryl's rejection of her, as she often does...and never gets) and he says, very calmly, "No, I'm not afraid of that." He is afraid of losing a child, but not of ending up like her, because he respects and admires her a great deal.

Daryl hears Carol talk about how difficult things are at the Commonwealth without him, and says, "Things will be different. We'll be together this time." Carol chooses to stay behind with him at the plane.

As they go into the tunnel, a man chooses to stay behind with the woman he's in love with instead of separating like they had planned. At the risk of sounding deranged, their gloved and intertwined hands do actually resemble Carol and Daryl's, and it seemed like an intentional parallel.

After Carol chooses to live (twice) and makes her way back to Daryl, he has a hallucination of Isabelle telling him to "bet on hope", before vanishing into a cloud of fireflies a la lover giving lovee the blessing to continue in life without her. He, too, chooses to live, and he had Carol reunite. They put on the only two gas masks in the cavern and say, "Let's go home." As they do, a song lyric that has played in the episode before goes over the scene: "Sometime you don't always get what you want", but this time it continues: "...but what you need."

All told, I don't know where they're taking this next. This frankly does not feel like platonic build up, and I went in knowing of the interview and fully expecting strictly platonic interactions. I am at this point almost willing to believe the statement that Caryl wasn't happening was a very ill-advised troll attempt. Melissa McBride, at least, clearly has her hands in Carol's plotline, and her above anyone else I trust with Carol. That's why, at this point in time, I am cautiously optimistic about season 3, and cautiously appreciative of the focus on Carol and Daryl's relationship this season.

My suggestion would be to, again, do it for her, and watch the series as it airs.

I have a different impression of what happened in S11's "I love you" and how it impacted Caryl's relationship in the spinoff, but that's beside the point. The point is, I agree that there are hints of something romantic between Caryl. My issue is this though. Fans of Carol and Daryl expect a show marketed as a Carol and Daryl show to explore their relationship, so why is that exploration reduced to subtext and parallels while other relationships that we aren't invested in are getting explicit beats? Why are their conversations being interrupted and their chemistry forcibly toned down? Why does Caryl's relationship feel like it's on the periphery and not at the center? You said you're willing to believe that Zabel was trolling, that he may actually be building up to something, but to me, it's very clearly a case of creative differences. At least someone wants Caryl while others don't and we know which way Zabel leans because he explicitly told us so. I think what we see in TBOC is an aggressive attempt to hide what somebody else wants and/or what is mandated. It's almost like watching a procedural drama where things are teased, but the characters and the relationship remain stagnant, always reset to where they started by the end. It's shitty because for over a decade, Carol and Daryl have been anything but stagnant.

I can definitely see where Melissa's influence begins and it's the most exciting element of the show imo because she clearly understands her character's trajectory and how to let her grow, but I can see where her influence ends too. Like everything else, Sophia's arc didn't go anywhere (side note: I hate that they tried to recast Sophia and she looked nothing like the og). Her need for Daryl wasn't reciprocated and her sense of "home" deflated like an old balloon when she had to find out he was preoccupied with his new family. As I said before, I felt like she was carrying more pain with her by the end than she was before she left and the way it was handled felt deeply misogynistic, like she was being punished. It gave me flashbacks to S11 when she was sidelined (literally sent back to the kitchen) and Daryl was being a jerk to her without any clear indication as to why.

I respect your opinion and I will second your advice for anyone who chooses to watch to do so for Melissa because she really is phenomenal all the way through. At the same time, the show and its marketing have raised enough red flags for me to feel uncomfortable encouraging anyone to give AMC their money when they've been mislead to think they were getting a Caryl show (Idk who the fuck the show is targeting, but it certainly isn't Carylers) and then a month out, are basically told by the showrunner to fuck off. Even if you aren't expecting Caryl and just want a strong Carol arc, that's not what this show is either. She gets the sidekick treatment as soon as her arc intersects with Daryl's, her name isn't allowed in the title, and Melissa doesn't get equal billing like the other female leads in the franchise. Ultimately, watching or not watching is a double-edged sword and I think everybody just has to decide for themselves what's best for them. What I think is more important is that regardless of your choice, just make sure AMC knows why you made it. Speak up where they can hear you.

Just curious. What episode did you quit watching ML and what episode do you recommend to stop watching and just live in fandom land?

The last episode I watched in its entirety was the season 3 finale. (The last thing I watched was the New York Special...not a fan). I was planning to watch season 4 after it was fully out to liveblog it with my brother but, the more it went on, the less I wanted to.

I've written an entire essay on how this show just kept piling things on that made me less enthuastic to watch it. Basically, what happened was that, when I took a step back, I started to notice patterns I didn't like. Primarily, a big pattern was that season 4 was going to be everything I didn't like about the New York Special stretched into a season long arc: basically making excuses every time Marinette is being self-centered or unreasonable and the complete disregard of Adrien as a character and fictional person.

I think 'Kuro Neko' was a turning point for me. This episode's messaging was extremely worrying to me, and it made me realize that I didn't want to watch it and make a commentary about it. I'd seen similar worrying things in the New York Special, and some Marinette stans dogpiled me when I voiced them. I think the only season 4 episode I wanted to watch after I heard about it was 'Psycomedian'.

Kuro Neko is also when I thought: "The writers have so little respect for Adrien as a character that they really might make him into a remote control robot with a killswitch". It made me realize that the writers are tone deaf enough to make Sentipeople a thing, regardless of the inherent abuse apologia in the concept and I'd promised myself I wouldn't watch the show if SentiAdrien ended up being a thing because of said abuse apologia.

I say watch up until the end of season 3 at the most. That's where we got the bigger hiatus and a lot of longer fanworks were written around this time. Genuinely, though? Season 2 was Miraculous at its best, and the fanworks that use season 2 as the basis (aka, anything with the 5 member Miraculous team) are some of the best in the fandom. So the safest bet is to watch up until the end of season 2 and then check episode synopses for anything in season 3 that might catch your eye. It's still pretty episodic so you really can just pick and choose what to watch, outside the finale being a two-parter. This will give you a good grasp on the key characters to read fanfics and enjoy fanart.

I don’t absolutely despise klaroline, although I definitely do not like them either, but one of the most stupid things in the entirety of the originals is Klaus flirting with Caroline while Hayley and hope is abducted. Would you consider this to be a writing mistake or just Klaus being Klaus? I’ve always wondered if he focused more on finding them if he’d of been able to save Hayley in time.

I've made an entire tik tok about this because I despised this episode since the first time I saw it. I laid out all of the dumb decisions Klaus made in the episode in the tik tok as well as a lengthy caption. You can see that here.

Klaus in Season 5 is terribly written. He may not be my favorite character and I don't like klaroline but everything about him and them in Season 5 was wrong.

Starting with Rebekah calling Caroline to go find Klaus. That made no sense. Why wouldn't Freya or Marcel go find him. They are his family. Marcel has known him for 200 years. It's not like Rebekah thought he wouldn't harm her, he had nearly killed Caroline multiple times. Marcel was upgraded, he would have been the best choice to go and talk some sense into Klaus. Or Freya who could have gone and yelled at him for abandoning Hope.

Just the fact that Klaus was ignoring Hope for five years made no sense to me. I get he was terrified that she would hate him after what she saw, but the end of Season 3 and through Season 4, we began to see a version of Klaus that was actually putting Hope's needs first. This abandonment was a complete regression back to his Season 2 narcissism. Also, Hope not continuing to astral project to find him made no sense. She is a powerful witch, if Caroline could track him down, so could Hope.

Now onto the day of the event.

My biggest gripe is that they are literally driving everywhere. Klaus is the fastest being, why is he taking an SUV that can go max 180 mph? Why did they stop at a rest stop to get coffee? Exhaustion doesn't affect them that way. They are literally flirting and joking around as Hope and Hayley are missing. Sure at this point they may not have realized how serious it was, but Klaus would never have allowed himself to be distracted like that. It was bad writing purely for ratings.

Klaus would rip apart the world to save both Hayley and Hope. Showing him doing anything less is a disservice to his character.

Good writing, writing that is true to Klaus' character would have shown him turning into a wolf to track Hope down. Ansel tells Klaus in Season 2 that he was drawn to Klaus as a child and even to Hope because wolves are drawn to their family. It would have been so satisfying to finally watch Klaus at one with his wolf side in order to find Hope.

It also was so out of character to see Klaus walking slowly to the house. Hayley was actively having her wolf side suppressed and fighting Greta. Klaus would have heard this from miles away and sped as fast as possible to the house. Instead we see him walking at a slow human speed. Caroline is also easily snuck up on by Elijah and Klaus doesn't immediately snap his neck? True-to-character Klaus would have ripped out Elijah's heart to save Hope and Hayley. After all, Elijah would have been fine.

Very little of Season 5 was not just poor writing. There were scenes and plot points that directly contradict established canon. The reason the writing was so bad is because the writers were killing Hayley, Elijah, and Klaus off no matter what. Hayley's death was 1000% preventable. Hayley was a hybrid and a member of the strongest family but was somehow killed by a 100 year old vamp? Say what you will about Klaus, but Klaus definitely would have saved her no matter what. She never should have died but Julie wanted Legacies to have an orphaned Hope and didn't care to make the writing good.

Hai, I wanted to air out some HH feelings and thought this was the best place to do so. I never watched the original pilot. After the first trailer dropped I figured that the show wasn't gonna be for me, it just wasn't my comedy style. But I did watch Addict when it dropped.

I thought it was really cool that a fan song got an officially animated mv! And I thought that it did a really good job at being subtle with Angel's SA...until the end. They added a whole new verse to the song to, from how I saw it, put in a flash back to an SA scene. I don't know why people don't bring that up more with Addict. A whole new verse to do that scene. Especially since it's supposed to be the hopeful/uplifting send-off after the credits.

But then when Michael was let go I went to the replies on his tweet. I stopped looking through them after I saw 3 different people post a gif of the SA shot in Addict under their well wishes. Just...why would you put something like that under your "We'll miss you! We loved your performance! Good luck" message to a VA? Why include the worst act against that character to your VA send-off?

That was when I really knew that Angel wasn't going to be handled well. Not just because of the needless scene inclusion at the end of Addict, but because of how the fans were treating it.

I wish I could say that I didn't see Poison coming. I wish I could say that I thought they would wait longer than episode 4 to show it. But honestly, I expected that shit to drop in episode 2. I expected there to be reoccurring scenes for the whole first season.

When Addict just *had* to shove that scene in at the end and the video got so popular I knew they would go bigger with more budget. I wanted to think I was just doomstorming (brainstorming while filled with dread), but the fact that they had done such a great job with the subtlety and threw it all away at the end for shock value sat wrong with me. I honestly don't know why nobody brings up that ending scene of Addict.

And I wanted to have hope! Addict had shown Angel dolling himself up to wreck havoc with Cherri and I thought that would be something! That he would have wrecking shit be a kind of escapism or therapy and he'd be trigger happy or explosive happy, or that Cherri would just...be there for him at all! But she's gone from what I've heard, and now we have Poison.

It makes me feel like a loser, baby.

Speaking as someone who loved Addict, hell, who remembers Addict as their gateway drug into Hazbin? These are all extremely valid points! Also, that thing with Michael is vile, this fandom's got zero sense of how to behave then or now and he really did dodge a bullet.

Me, I never minded the ending to Addict so much because, while we do see that shot of Valentino raping Angel, it amounts to a split second. More importantly, the video ends with Angel daring to believe that things might be better at the hotel, and then Nuggets kisses him and he smiles and it's a happy, hopeful note.

One thing we can agree on, I think, is that Poison makes Addict look like high cinema. It's all of the worst things about Addict and absolutely none of the good.

netflix atla review

i decided that i wanted to see it through anyway so i finished the netflix atla. here are the things that made me want to hurl rocks at my tv (i might not remember a lot of things because i stopped watching after ep 4 and only continued this week so this might get rambly as i try to recall things)

let me start on the cast. no offense to these kids but my god. one of the things i hate the most is when you can tell an actor is acting. the whole time you could see that they walk up to their mark, stop there and recite the lines like they're in a high school play. and i get that they're young and probably don't have too much experience but i just keep thinking about the original voice cast who were children as well at the time of recording and they're some of the most talented actors i've ever heard. but then again i know they had to not only find people who resemble the characters but can do martial arts and act. so whatever, i hope they'll grow more during this. the only actor i liked was dallas liu who is the oldest of the main cast (i believe he was around 20 when they filmed this) which is probably why he doesn't have a chronic case of child acting.

i'm guessing they're already abandoning the ancient library storyline because they already intoduced wan shi tong and zhao was shown that he found out about tui and la from the fire sages in roku's temple. which is going to be interesting because that's where sokka finds out about the solar eclipse but i guess they'll come up with some other solution like toph can sense the moon moving through her feet or some shit

tui and la becoming mortals for only one night?

zuko having extensive research on the avatars should mean he knows that roku is his great grandfather but we're either leaving that one out or he's just not good at research

they took out sokka's sexism, thus eliminating any chance of character development, in favor of putting in actual sexism perpetrated by the show itself. suki is made into this small town girl, rapunzel type of character who needs sokka, the man, to bring the world to her and expand her mind. and then instead of sokka being grateful to suki for teaching him, she's the one that's thankful for ... going there? and bringing the world to her? because strong women mean they can punch right?

constant references to book 2 in the first season

they made so that aang didn't actually run away from his responsibility as the avatar - which is a pretty important part of his arc as that guilt follows him through the entire series - but that he only took a little trip to clear his head. which makes everyone accusing him of disappearing seem dumb and unfair

which leads me to bumi. why the fuck would bumi be so pissed at him? the whole episode he's antagonizing him and yelling at him to go do his job as the avatar meanwhile he's holding him hostage and making him do his challenges. like let him go so he can do his job maybe?? stupid

the entire ep 3-4. they really just shoved like 5 episodes together into one which i get because they don't have time to do everything but they did it so badly and the messages from each episode disappeared in favor of the CGI fight scenes.

like what do you mean sokka barely even got to interact with jet? that's the episode where sokka is proven to have good instincts and leadership because he saw jet for what he was.

why are teo and his dad here? what about aang's massive grief over the industrialization of his wiped out culture?

why would jet try to kill bumi? they completely obliterated the moral dilemma of jet wiping out a fire nation village because he sees that as justified even though he's killing civilians who happen to be fire nation.

for some reason they had sokka and katara go through the secret tunnel which is kind of fucking weird. i don't mind if they cut the kaang romance line but it is going to be interesting once it comes to the earthly attachments and some plotlines that revolve around aang having a major crush on katara. also what do you mean the badger moles sense "emotions"? toph is about to sense people's emotions in her feet and learn bending that way

they mary sue'd katara. she's bad at waterbending until she isn't and suddenly she's a master just from self taught basic waterbending she learned from the scroll gran gran gave her?? which is another thing they robbed us of because katara going to great lengths to steal the scroll shows how determined she is and desperate to learn waterbending but here she just gets handed the scroll. she's timid and lukewarm the entire season, the only time i can recall her even raising her voice is when she's arguing with sokka over jet. she gets mad at pakku for not letting her fight which is stupid because girl who is gonna stop you? go and fight?? you should be getting mad at pakku for not even trying to teach you waterbending. then she brings the entire untrained female population to the fight because girl power™. despite all of this, she's proclaimed a master without any actual training and beats zuko's ass purely because she's So Good. like at this point she shouldn't be able to hold her own against zuko without the full moon's help because as soon as the sun comes up zuko easily overpowers her ("you rise with the moon i rise with the sun"). which didn't happen here because she's a self proclaimed master now apparently

aang didn't bend a single waterdrop the entire season. it's book 1: water. it's called water. where's the bending aang? too busy doing another stupid walk and talk

stripped of iroh telling zuko he thinks of him as his son

stripped of one of the rawest lines i've ever heard on television: "my father says she was born lucky, he says i was lucky to be born"

which leads me into azula's character. they brought her in earlier just so her role in the whole season can be her groveling at ozai's feet, seeking his approval, trying to outdo zuko. which is insane cause she already outdoes zuko by a mile. she's a prodigy. they make it look like ozai favors zuko over azula which is so fucking insaaaane it made me so mad. she already knows she's better than zuko, she doesn't need her father's approval. also why isn't her fire blue.

iroh being the one who kills zhao. this one pissed me off so badly because in the original, as the ocean spirit takes hold of him zuko reaches out to zhao to try to save him.... that man tried to have him KILLED. and zuko still tried to save him. but zhao's arrogance didn't let him take his hand and that was his demise. that single act tells us so much about zuko and they just??? took that out??? so iroh can just murder him?? instead of it being the ocean spirit's revenge for killing its partner? instead of giving us that glimpse into who zuko is as a person? i'm going insane

don't even mention the fact that zuko fought back against ozai during the agni kai. he was literally banished because he refused to fight him. he got the scar because he refused to fight him. that's who zuko is!!!! and then they show us that he, a 13 year old boy who is still fairly inexperienced at bending, could have defeated ozai but he chose not to?? i'm sorry???

during the meeting where he spoke out against their plan, they made it look like he only spoke up because the general taunted him and not because he thought what they wanted to do was morally wrong.

now tell me which line hits harder: "compassion is a sign of weakness" or "you will learn respect and suffering will be your teacher". yeah...

yue bringing sokka to the spirit oasis to heal momo?? it was so fucking stupid and unserious that they were cradling a cgi lemur that i was in tears of pain. i almost gave up there

sokka constantly talking about wanting to be a better warrior and bossing katara around but doing absolutely fuck all to prove himself was insane. sokka was just standing around the whole season making bad jokes (cause wow they made sokka unfunny somehow) and flirting with women.

there was no goofiness or lightheartedness to aang. he took everything so fucking seriously it actually hurt to watch because they blew things out of proportion that didn't need to be. why was he so afraid of his normal bending power? not even his avatar state power but just his airbending. constantly angsting over his responsibility and how he's failing as the avatar. jesus fucking christ.

since zuko never stole katara's necklace, june had to use some fuckin random fabric she found on one of the trees that could've belonged to anybody??

zuko was able to capture aang after june found him instead of getting his ass whooped and paralysed so when zhao basically forces him to hand aang over to him, it's easier to guess who the blue spirit is as zuko makes a whole scene about it earlier

truly the one thing i really liked was the addition that the 41st division was the crew he protected at the war meeting

circling back to the first episode where we start out in the past and we get to see the whole genocide of the air nomads instead of finding out along with aang. we also get to see how he ends up in the iceberg so we don't get his story paralleled with zuko's backstory like in the storm. i mean whatever but the aang and zuko parallels were always dear to me.

hated zhao's actor. instead of him being intimidating and scary, he was acting like a frat boy and talked like tom cruise's character in magnolia. just simply annoying

jet telling katara to just stop being sad about her mom and she stops being sad and suddenly she can bend again. and later when he tells her she can bend because he helped her, she straight up denies it because it was "all her" like i gotta disagree there cause no, it was definitely him who helped you.

icing on the cake was when zuko walks into a bar and the patrons there reference like 4 storylines that they skipped over

so anyway... that's all i could think of at the top of my head and i hope they fuck up less in the upcoming seasons god willing

You woke up and immediately got to training with your class. You are in the hero course and have a control based quirk so you have to do focus traing. That is how you ended you using you quirk to juggle three 10 pound rocks while jogging.

You hatred it but "it would help" at least that is what momo said. You finished your 4th lap as you saw class 1-b. Mr.vlad was talking lile this was a game show. You saw your friends from middle school setsuna and you waved causing you to drop 2 rock almost hitting aizawa.

You got scolded by aizawa then you started to run again. You ran and to make you lap go faster you watched you classmates while trying to keep your quirk running to keep the rocks up. You ran and saw iida pass you as he was also running laps.

You saw sero and kaminari on the mountain and uraraka pucking in by some trees. Yiu then felt a blast of heat and then cold. You looked over to see yiu boyfriend in a barrel of water freezing it and bolting it. He looked so tired.

You kept running for almost 6 more hour with only three 20 minutes breaks. In that short time you just drank water and went to the bathroom. Finally you got the ok to stop and go wash up for dinner. You fast todoroki and just waved as you walked to the girls drom.

Later on all of class a and b got to the cooking stations. You walked over to momo,mina, and todoroki who were talking about their training,but then you heard ragdoll yell that it was time to cook and not to make it sloppy.

You got sent to a fire station with mina, uraraka, and sero. "Hey todoroki can we get some fire over here" mina yelled as he walked over and lit the fires and muttering a small "here let me" as sero. Fiddled with the flint he had

"Thanks sho" you said as he got called over to start another fire "no problem [nickname]" he said kissing you cheek. You heard and yell and saw Bakugou had exposed his station. That was Bakugou alright.

You worked on the meat rhe other hero course kids did there jobs. In the end you had barely enabled curry but it was still good after 7 hours of training all day. Sero then accidentally insulted momo by comparing her quirk to poo. Todoroki had to stop yiu from punching him in the face.

The next day was the same as the last but you got to spend time with todoroki in the morning. You talked as you cooked breakfast because you both got breakfast dute that day to you got an hour of uninterrupted time together cooking. That was until the bakusquad showed up and it was loud.

You started the same exact thing to did yesterday except to had 2 more rocks. So lap after lap to ran with the rocks now totaling 5. On one of your breaks you and todoroki were sitting together in silence till yiu heard pixie bob. Yella that you got to play a game today after training. Yay you thought more training. Todoroki look over and said "if we're not on the same team I will try my hardest to beat you." You just smiled and said "same to you sho"

Later you and shoto were moving fire wood for dinner shoto stopped to talk to deku. Yiu just kept walking to get the wood to mina. After that you started getting ready for the game and yiu got paired with deku. You started talk about things like home town and his mega crush on uraraka. Thay made him turn red.

Yiu walked over to todoroki who was with bakugou of all people. "You ok sho" you asked him "just odd gut feeling thats all." Said calmly "you think you going to lose" teased he just shock his head as him and bakugou got called to go next.

You heard a yell and a fire smell. You looked back to see pixie bob get thrown back and hit a staff held by a person with short red hair. You run in the forest to find and warn them of rhe attack. You find tyu and uraraka first and they are not sure of what is happening.

You then say you got scared and ran ahead of deku and yiu wanted to join them. They had no idea of the attack so it was best to keep everyone calm. You then start walking.

You start to fell guilty and just say it "there is an attack" tyu look at you and said "I thought so" uraraka looked shocked "why didn't you tell us"

"I did not want to scare you" yiu said and uraraka just nodded knowing she would do the same. You look around you and see and girl in a school uniform. It is different than your but it is a school uniform. She has a knife and is wearing battle gear.

In that moment you heard a familiar voice in your head "every one in class-a and class-b in the name of rhe prohero eraserhead you granted permission to engage in combat i repeat use you training yiu may fight these villains." It was ms. mandaly.

You faced the girl. She lunged at uraraka and hit her arm. She started bleeding. Uraraka grabbed her arm and both yiu and tyu asked if she was ok. She said she was fine so you turned to the girl again. She had 2 blonde buns and the knife she has was covered in uraraka blood. "Shallow not much blood" rhe girl said looking at the knife.

"Who goes slashing people out of know where." Tyu asked the girl

"Who are you" you asked preparing to attack her

"I'm toga, jeez you 3 are super cute uraraka, tyu and [lastname]." The girls now known as toga said

"How does she know our names" uraraka said to toga

"Maybe the sport fest" you wishpered.

Tyu said "we know nothing of her so we're at a disadvantage stayon gard" yiu nodded in agreement to tyu's statement

"There's not enough blood, normally i would suck it straight from the cut but no time. Alright girl this machine will start sucking it out as soon as I stick it in you. All get what I need and move on, so who's first" toga said calmly. She then lunged again at uraraka and tyu rapped her tongue around uraraka waist move in her out of the way.

"You got to get back to camp we have permission to use quirks to protect ourselves not to counter attack I'm sure that is what mr.aizawa meant." Tyu said throwing uraraka up in the air

"[Yourname], tyu come on" uraraka yelled out to you.

"We're coming uraraka" you yelled as toga lunged again hitting tyu tongue and below your ear with double sided knife.

"[Yourname], tyu, [yournameI, tyu I like it" toga said "what cute names I think I'll call both of you that too"

Tyu yelled back "no only my friends get to call me that." She lowered in to a fighting stance. But toga hit her hair with a nettle from her support gear pinning her to a tree. She then started to dance and say that she was tyu friend.

"We're coming tyu" you and uraraka yelled as you ran to her. "Oh your bleeding tyu you couldn't be anymore adorable i love boiled, we're going to be such good friends" toga laughed

"Get away from her" uraraka said as she when to hit toga and toga hit her hair. Uraraka then started using Marshall arts she learned with gunhead.

"Uraraka that was amazing" you and tyu said at urarakas bravery

"Tyu can you use her tongue to restrain her hands or is your tongue hurt and [yourname] can you use you quirk to lift her." You nodded and tyu also nodded.

You heard toga say calmly "uraraka your delightful to you have rhe same smell as me you got a crush on someone am I right. So do I and let me guess you want to be exactly like that special person huh. I can tell to love sick girls." Uraraka looked horrified as toga continued "first you Model you self after them by dressing lile them thing is that is not enough yiu have to got further then you realize yiu want to become them. Ones yiu get to that point there is no going back that is how love is right, who has your eye I love people who have been slashed up and smell of fresh blood. That why I always end up cutting them. Hey uraraka this is fun right just 2 girl talking about our crushes."

Then uraraka got stabbed with a part of toga gear and it started to pump her blood "uraraka" you and tyu yelled. Yiu started to run run to her but uraraka said "stay back i don't want yiu to get hurt too."

Toga just started to say over and over "suck suck suck suck" you heard shoij and saw him and deku and yiu and tyu yelled "help us help her" Toga then jumped up out of uraraka grip and moved to the tree line "stop" you yelled running after her but tyu grabbed your arm to stop you.

Toga them said "there are too many people and I don't feel like getting killed tonight todeels" but then she stopped as she saw deku covered in blood on shoij's back "yiu and uraraka tried again to go after her but you got stopped by tyu again "we don't know her quirk"

Todoroki,bakugou,and tokoyami joined deku and shoij "are you all ok who was that girl just now" Todoroki said with a worried tone "We're fine sho and that girl was a villain she was crazy"

Deku said slowly "uraraka [lastname] your bleeding" todoroki eyes widened a bit as he walked closer to you and saw the cut under your ear. "You're sure your ok [yourname]" todoroki said quietly. You knew he was worried he never called you by your name ever only if he was mad or worried he always called you a nickname.

"Sho I'm fine just shaking up that's all" he nodded and you put yiu arm around him. He couldn't hug yiu due to the fact he was carrying a boy from 1-B.

"Deku what happened to you, you look horrible" uraraka asked the green hair boy on his classmates back "join our group we are protecting kaccan and making our way to camp" tyu replied calmly "if you're protecting bakugou shouldn't he be with you guys" "what are you talking about he is right behi-" deku was cut of to see bakugou was not there.

Deku looked shocked as he looked around to see no sign of bakugou. A male voice coming from a tree said "nice trick a I took the lad you talking about with my magic. Talent like his would be squander if he was cast as a hero. We'll give him a grander stage were he can truly shine."

"Give him back" deku yelled at the man in a long yellow coat. your hand stated to glow with yiu magic as you prepared to attack him

"Give him back what a odd thing to say bakugou don't belong to anyone he is his own person don't be arrogant"

"We'll stop you" deku yelled as todoroki froze the ground "why the aggressiveness we much show him whatelsethereis other than hero life" said he man a he jumped to avoid the attack

"It is not just bakugou he took tokoyami to." Shoji yelled "if you are monologing just because you think you've got use beat your mistaken" todoroki yelled

The man said simplely "sorry habit of mine I used to be and entertainer you know. Tokoyami was a bit if improv on my part. When I saw tokoyami take moonlight down so fast I thought I must take him too"

"You basterd" deku yelled as you flew up and thought a blast at him and todoroki gave the boy for class 1-B to uraraka. The ice blast todoroki shot was one of the tallest you have seen every in the time you have known yiu boyfriend

"Apologize by slight of hand is my specialty" he yelled as he jumped and escaped. He started to talk in his com. You landed from the air and stumbled back a bit. Yiu felt todoroki catch you "you ok" he asked

"Yup just thrown off that's all" you said standing up and fixing you shirt. And get ready to go after the man and your classmates.

"We'll stop them" said todoroki and deku as you all stated to run after them. You and you class were struggling to keep so yiu took flight to follow him. You got close multiple time but he always out ran You.

Then you saw todoroki deku and Shoji fly though the air to catch up with you in the air and they hit the man to the ground. You tried to soften there fall with you quirk but it didn't work as well as you thought. The 4 of them landed on he ground of a small clearing that had other villains around it like the girl that you fought earlier. "who are they" you heard one of the villains that you do not recognize said.

A blast of flame went out and it hit you flannel lighting it on fire. You heard todoroki ask if everyone was ok you yelled that you were fine as you took of your buring flanel. a villain jump and tried to attack todoroki but he was blocked by an ice wall. toga charged where you were with the hurt deku. you blocked her attack as she tried to pin deku to the ground and get his blood you tried to get her away from deku by she almost cut you and shoij knocked her off of him.

she threatened to cut you and shoij even thought yall were "not her type" you saw shoji pull 2 marbles out of his pocket and he said "these are tokoyami and bakugou"

"color me impressed" the villain said as todoroki made an ice wall to block the villain he was fighting. you and the other students there ran to get out of the clearing but a nomu and a smock villain showed up and blocked you. the smoke villain said "it has been five minutes so let's go dabi" toga said "sorry deku but see you later ok"

all the villains slowly entered the warp gate made by the smock based villain. "they don't have the kid" he villain said as you looked up and he continued "i wanted to let them gloat for a bit because they thought it was so smart to check my pockets, but let me explain a basic thing. if i'm showing something shiney it is because they is something else i don't want you to see" he then moved his mask to show on his tongue was bakugou and tokoyami. the marbles that shoij had took to their normal form as todoroki's ice. deku then charged at the man with bakugou and tokoyami as you tried to stop him but he just moved to fast for you so you joined in the sprint to get them both back.

"forgive me" the masked man said as he moved in the gate to escape. then Aoyama hit the man's mask and broke it. the man spit out of marbles and shoji was able to grab one that had tokoyami in it. dabi got to the one with bakugou in it after he blocked you, and todoroki for it. you and shoto slid on the ground as you missed bakugou. you were able to catch shoto so he did not get hurt anymore than he already had been.

all you hear before passing out was "checkmate" from villain and deku yelling "BAKUGOU NO!!" and then it all went black. The next thing you knew was waking up in a hospital with jiro and hagakure. the rescue of bakugou was done and all might retired after a extrem fight. you saw todoroki in the chair next to you bed he had bangges and small cuts on his face but he was ok and alive

I loved this but it took like 2 hours 👏 have a good day and night 🌙

To Be Here

October. My beloved October. The kotatsu blanket is back on, the indoor plants don't need as much watering, the fallen leaves in the backyard need sweeping and the Summer clothes have been put away. Funny how many friends I've recently chatted with about the bliss that comes with October. It's a burst of orange ochre and apple red in my head. When the season turned, the sun who has since made herself scarce is a warm embrace whenever she pokes her head out. The wind and clouds are constant companions. The evening is perfect for mysterious reads under candlelight. What a splendid month.

As I am typing this, however, October is nearly done. Something this good always leaves too soon, doesn't it? I love the first taste of cold after the pesky Summer heat and September’s false promises of colder days. October is where it really gets going. But it's always nearly done before I feel like I can properly savor it. How melancholy!! But isn’t that how it always goes? Love is more deeply felt after only the crater it left is the one thing you’ve got to remember it by? Love defined by the lack, the absence, the loss? There will never be enough Octobers for me. I’m a creature of want in this way, yearning is an instinct for me. I watch the days go by and the thought that there won’t be another October until next year is like quicksand for my mind.

That said I’ve spent the month working diligently and on the whole being rather productive in both work and personal matters. There’s this project I’ve started and making good progress on! Once completed I promised myself a trip where I can apply what I’ve learned and I’m so excited to reach that goal. I’ve also read a lot this month. I really surprised myself. I’ve read six books and the month isn’t over yet! I read two Agatha Christie books, all three of the Toshikazu Kawaguchi series (the fourth one is coming out next month!! And I’ll have to read the fifth one in Japanese because I don’t want to wait for the translation to come out!!!) I also read Matt Haig’s The Midnight Library as recommended by a friend and I'm so glad she brought it up! I've had a copy of it for ages but just never managed to pick it up due to associated memories (it was given to me by someone during a bad period in my life!!) I swear that book might've just saved my life. I also finished two manga volumes in Japanese this month. It's a series called Yotsuba&! which is just the most wholesome series. Maybe I'll talk about it someday on here. But that series is such a light in my life. I picked it up on one particularly tough day last week and it instantly revived hope in my heart that there's still good out there no matter what.

Other things I've been up to: I've been running a lot these days and I'm actually surprising myself with how much I enjoy it. Earlier today (I'm typing this before bed) I went on a run while it was drizzling. I felt like a kid playing in the rain. I couldn't stop smiling!

Also, the podcast show I mentioned some entries ago!! Case 63!! It has a season 2!! Actually, I found out it's originally by a Chilean writer, so the version I listened to is an English adaptation. Anyway, I'm so happy there's more of it. Season 3 is the final season in Spanish so I expect the English adaptation of that will also be made (since they went so far as to continue with season 2). Fingers crossed! I'm so intrigued as to how it will end!!

As for TV, I started and finished watching HBO's Barry in like a week. I was absorbed!! All four seasons! Mind you, each episode is only 30 mins so it wasn't really that long. It's such a funny and dark show I love it so much. I've heard good things about it through the years but I never found the time to get into it. Plus I have this terrible illness of "I-Can't-Get-Into-Things-When-It's-Super-Mainstream-I-Need-To-Wait-Until-The-Hype-Dies-Down-itis" lol. No, seriously I just didn't feel like getting into a new show until this month apparently. But I'm so glad I watched it. The show is a goldmine, the best Hollywood/LA culture satire I've seen in ages. The way it highlights the gender gap in the workplace, how a writer must compromise on truth in order to sell something, even the way a woman needs to be a "perfect victim" in order for her story to be worth anything! It's so witty!! And the central question of can people truly change--I'll be thinking about this show for a long time. It's so good. Watch it if you can.

Early this month I also managed to sneak a quick trip to Croatia and Slovenia which was so relaxing and peaceful. Trips can be quite stressful for me especially when it's a big city full of tourists due to my OCD (I'm looking at you Paris, and literally all of Italy smh... jk jk) But this trip was restorative and gave me a genuine sense of discovery and wonder, which is what I aim to travel for.

I've been listening to the new Mitski album and rethinking my home library's organisation system! I haven't decided yet but I mainly want my Classical Mythology books, both fiction and non-fiction in one area. Also wishing I bought two Caryatid statues in Athens last year instead of one! Would've been nice for her to have a buddy!!

Now, the title of this entry comes from a realisation I had this month--a very important one. As someone whose nature is to think and think and think, it's difficult to be in the present. I'm always in agony over the past, and anxious about the future. I can be quite dismissive of what's in front of me as a result. This is a chronic issue of mine. But while reading The Midnight Library, tucked in my reading chair, savoring the scent of a pumpkin pie candle, all the pieces of advice I've read both online and in person suddenly clicked.

When writing a first draft of a novel, it simply needs to exist.

When making art, it simply needs to be there.

When yearning to do something, I must attempt it

When wanting to exist, I simply am.

I just need to be here in the most literal sense. To be. Not in the past tense, not in the future tense. There's no need for qualifiers. There is no standard to fulfill. I know this is neither new nor revolutionary, but in the embrace of an October evening, digesting this advice and accepting it made me feel so brave.

It hit me like a sucker punch. I thought, I need to untangle my sense of self and my worth from anything external. I cannot keep on doing this to myself. Because the truth is if I don’t stop this constant self-flagellation, I have simply replaced my mother in adulthood. I will have been no different from her and her constant need to criticise me. This is something I've been actively trying to improve recently and I can feel myself getting better. I feel, somewhat ironically, that by being present, I'm regaining a sense of hope that I haven't felt since childhood. Like somehow my past is healed and my future is assured.

So despite how much I've gone on about loving October at the beginning of this entry, as much as I know I will miss it, I have to be where I am. That means accepting that all things end--good or bad. That means being in November when it comes. That means understanding that what I've lost, while dearly missed, is out of my grasp now. That means what will happen to me is tomorrow's business.

This entry's song I've repeated to death (which is a very good thing) this month. It's by an artist I really enjoy. I cannot wait for new material from her and this new single is a sign of really good things to come!

ok i'm doing another platonic one: moon & ember! i have read the few existing moon & ember fics so many times i can no longer separate them from canon. their dynamic is everything 2 me. bodyguard & anger translator. damaged hottie with trust issues & naive little pretty boy who just wants to go home. moon sees ember as not just a romantic rival but also a threat to his place in the colony, and of course being moon, his reaction to that is not to challenge ember but just to assume that he's been replaced and that he has to start over again alone. ember is everything that moon is not, everything he's convinced he's supposed to be, but ACTUALLY they're both perfect the way they are and there's room enough in this court for the both of them. they are so powerful when they combine their complementary skillsets for the good of the colony. plus i love that every time he interacts with anyone moon is probably thinking, "ugh, i bet EMBER wouldn't be fucking this up"…but also he's defending ember when stone makes fun of him and offering to challenge the reigning queen on ember's behalf! he's protective of ember even as ember embodies everything that makes him insecure. meanwhile ember thinks moon is the coolest person to ever exist and also. extremely cringe. probably 25% of his pillow talk is him subtly trying to convince pearl that moon is just a little birthday boy who should be allowed to be a hugely oversensitive weirdo, as a treat.

people have been rbing some of my cherry magic posts recently so i've been thinking about kurodachi again. i miss them! they're so well matched, so complementary in the ways that they need to grow, and it's lovely to watch them help each other do that. the way that adachi is inspired to make an effort by kurosawa's continuous striving for things he thinks he'll never get, and the way that adachi's apathy for perfection frees kurosawa from his need to be worthy…like ok fine whatever i am listening!!!

Favorite Childhood Book: when i was a kid i had meticulously curated my top ten favorite books, but now i can only remember half of them: island of the blue dolphins, the witch of blackbird pond, ella enchanted, walk two moons, and mrs. frisby and the rats of nimh. can you tell i had one of those bookmarks that listed all the newberry award winners and was working my way through it? lol.

Currently Reading: i just finished my reread of maskerade, the discworld book about the opera, which i had put on hold after reading le fantôme de l'opéra. it wasn't one of my fave discworlds as a teen but i think i'm now in the right headspace for it. enjoyed it quite a bit!

i'm near the end of both the traitor baru cormorant by seth dickinson and par amour by valérie tong cuong. the latter is about a family in le havre during wwii and is very hard to put down. i have honestly no idea what will happen in the remaining two chapters except the nazis are going to lose the war. the traitor baru cormorant is well done, but i don't think i like it enough to read the sequel. (i still am pathologically unable to stop a book that i've started, but i've just discovered that i am capable of stopping after book 1 of a series. life hack!!)

Currently watching: natsume season 4 dub! i just watched the moon-splitting festival arc and the baby nanase episode yesterday. next up is the one about natsume's picture of his parents which. like. let's just say i am marshaling my emotional forces for that one.

also it is about to be march madness! selection sunday tomorrow babey!!!

Currently consuming: the great thing (sarcastic) about living alone is that you spend four hours making this quinoa black bean dish and then have to somehow eat all of it before it goes bad. luckily my neighbor and i have been doing this cute thing for the last ~6 months where we share whatever food we make with each other. this has been working out extremely well for me, because when he cooks i get to eat without having to do anything whatsoever, and when i cook i don't have to worry as much about quantity. i feel like i tricked him into it somehow even though he is getting exactly the same thing out of it as i am.

Currently craving: a baked good i made for the first time recently and then made again two times in rapid succession because i (and my neighbor lol) liked it so much: gingies! okay technically the recipe calls them gingerbread cookie bars, and i just looked up "gingies" (to make sure it's not an offensive term for redheads that i don't know about) and apparently it's frequently used for gingersnaps, but MY use of "gingies" is right and correct and all these other people are idiots. the reason is that they're basically brownies (texture/structure/technique-wise) but with the gingerbread flavor profile instead of chocolate. and "gingeries" sounds stupid, so gingies it is!

Can we talk about music in season 2? I think I may be getting too anxious because of it, but I need to drop the idea. And I don't mean the fact that we heard almost nothing of Queen, though it is a disturbing problem as well. What I mean is the background music at the end, at the lift scene.

Now, I'm not a musician and have no education as such, so I'm going to speak in simple words, and you have all the right to think I'm just imagining things. Probably I am. But I've seen and heard enough musical analysis and soundtracks to notice some patterns.

So, the ending. Around the kiss scene and down to the end credits, we hear sad string and piano music that keeps stretching our emotional breakdown more and more. And then, by the lift to Heaven, after the Metatron mentions the Second Coming, a sudden appearance of new instruments – a high-pitched flute and a harp. The strings are still there, but they are not the main theme any more, they're the background. When Aziraphale looks back at Crowley, the strings come back to the fore. Then he turns to the Metatron – we hear the harp again; Aziraphale smiles and steps into the lift.

The change of the musical instruments isn't the only thing that caught my attention. It's the meaning behind it and the choice that was made.

There is nothing unimportant in this season, and the music was always spot on. The recent scene with the kiss is literally a perfect example: the volume, the tone, the mood, the speed, the climax, the pauses – oh my god, these pauses that drew my soul out. Everything was where it should be and when it should be, to create the ambience, to emphasise the feeling, to direct the mood.

The violins and strings in general are notorious for the sad mood they can create. Obviously, it's not their only purpose, but if you hear a sorrowful or even mournful track, there is an enormously high possibility the string orchestra is present. And the whole break-up scene, Aziraphale's connection with Crowley at large in all the ways, it is all framed in these heartbreaking strings and is almost drowning in them.

What about the harp? It's not a common instrument, but can you recall moments in movies or games where you heard it? What was on your screen when you listened to it? What atmosphere did it create? I can give you some hints.

Fairytales. Magic. Enchantment. Miracles. And hints, too, by the way. That is the most common usage of the harp – and the high-pitched flute – I've come across.

I cannot claim that Aziraphale was under the influence of a miracle from that damned coffee; I can only guess. But what I do know is that nothing in Good Omens happens for no reason, and the music is a big part of the series.

I do have a few suggestions what the meaning behind the magic harp was, though.

It may mean that Aziraphale was indeed miraculously influenced.

It may mean that he got a hint or solved a puzzle he struggled with.

It may only mean the fact of the delusion – the fairytale the Metatron told him before, when making his offer.

And it may mean the fairytale itself. What is the main distinguishing feature of the fairytales? The happy ending. Season 3 is definitely not far off.

It may also mean something I can't put my finger on yet.

By the way, you can hear the harp in the background in the kiss scene as well – speaking of the happy ending afterward, I damn hope.

Besides, after Crowley leaves the bookshop, Aziraphale stops himself from showing his unwillingness to go with the Metatron. He makes a pause, watches out of the window; you hear a quiet harp; he smiles and walks outside.

I don't know if I'm just going all conspiratorial too hard. If I am, I hope someone more calm and experienced with music can take something from this idea and make it better. Because I'm pretty sure the music here is not just a soundtrack.

Someday I guess, someday at best

Some post I can’t remember got me thinking about cousins and them showing up for each other randomly and I have word vomit over a fic I haven't touched in years.

Phil Coulson and Tony Stark are cousins in the way that Peggy Carter and Howard Stark were friends. They show up for each other. But that's more Tony dropping in at random times and Phil knowing when he's needed. Here's the latter.
