This still shows the utter faith he had in his servant, bc he asked it knowing full-well that Merlin had chosen to stay behind. Like he wasn't even surprised Merlin had shown up anyway. I literally woke up and thought about this and began to cry.

FINALLY...meet our last supervillain! plus a strange, extra syndicate member...technically...?

ace figuera, aka deadheat, used to be a hero who fought alongside miss morph and felix in their early years. rather than being born with his powers or gaining them by accident, he actively sought them out to become a superhero. granted the power to wield flame by a dangerous spirit, deadheat quickly gained a very controversial public image as a hero: was he too reckless and arrogant to deserve his title, without thinking of any consequence of his actions? can one simply bestow the title of hero onto themselves? his guns-blazing combat style certainly didn't help his case, but he didn't really care. he was part of a team! that is...until one fateful day six years ago, when he, miss morph, and felix finally took down the syndicate for good, and deadheat was one of the casualties, killed in the crossfire. but when the syndicate mysteriously popped back up three years later, he stepped out as none other than their new leader...he appears to think heroes are a threat now, and that the very concept of them must be eliminated at all costs. what is his vision? why have his loyalties changed? and does he miss his old life, his former friends...? regardless of the answer to that, he still seems hard at work reshaping the syndicate. and while he is deeply respected as a supervillain, something he never quite got as a hero, his decision to dust off and reactivate an old syndicate project is still of notable controversy.

formally known as experimental systems for threat eradication and recovery, or e.s.t.e.r. (or simply ester) for short, this strange little android girl is shrouded in considerable mystery, despite her energetic, nosy demeanor. created by the syndicate's founder back in the 1950s, she was supposedly meant to be the key to syndicate victory against the heroes...and yet, absolutely no one knows what her directives were, or what her abilities are. all her secrets died with her creator. and while deadheat is still determined to find an answer to all of this and finally find a way to carry out the syndicate's original goals, no matter how frustrated he gets along the way, he still can't help but feel concerned for ester. what is her deal...? handling a child alongside the overarching task of defeating our heroes certainly wasn't what he expected to be in the cards, but he also can't help but think the two are related, somehow...no matter how much the syndicate dismisses ester as a failed project.

and so concludes our introductions!!! how will solarflare and her allies face off against the syndicate? what bigger plans are in the works to take them down...? and will they succeed?! perhaps we'll find out in due time!

In honour of finishing my hellish academic semester, I present to thee:

A Brief Introduction to 'In Pursuit of Daybreak'

First things first: What is In Pursuit of Daybreak?

A post-apocalyptic fantasy reimagining of the story of Hyacinthus and Apollo! Set in a world thrown into chaos after the sudden disappearance of The Radiant God, it follows three sons of the Radiant as they try their best to bring light back to the world.

Sons of the Radiant? Meet the leading men!

Aristaeus: A pastoral god and eldest of the brothers. Due to having a strained relationship with his venerated father, he is not exactly eager to track him down and have him return to clean up his mess. After being tricked by Asclepius however, he has only one choice: protect his brothers at all costs.

Orpheus: The grieving bard and second son; with the wounds of losing Eurydice still fresh, all his songs have become bitter sorrow. Coaxed by Asclepius to help restore the beautiful world Eurydice loved, Orpheus embarks on this journey in the hopes of rediscovering himself after his greatest loss.

Asclepius: The world's best healer and the youngest son; he is intent on healing the world of its ailment for the sake of his wife and children. Though others might curse his father for abandoning the world to the beasts of Erebus, Asclepius knows better and he will cure this malady even if it costs him his life.

(Hyacinthus: The long-dead lover. Slain by The Radiant's hand, he is a vengeful wraith brought back by Asclepius' dark medical rites. He too wishes to find the Radiant - not for love's sake but for the sake of his burning wrath.)

In Pursuit of Daybreak is a fantasy/drama piece with strong romantic themes. It also has themes of family, sacrifice, self-discovery and death.

Production Status

I've been working on this project seriously for about two years! Despite not being historical fiction, I worked very hard on research and development of the concept and characters to retain an authentic feel of the mythology and traditions they come from. I'm still in the process of writing the novel but I also want to get in the habit of speaking openly and confidently about my work, so I definitely also want to talk more and more about my children and their adventures.

im so fucling curious what the backstory is behind deeby and lana omg. meant to send a more coherent ask but post work braincel decrease is hitting me hard. also the dutch petname thing scared tge fuck out of me the first time.

God, mood about the post-work braincells. Also, I mean this with so much love, but it means so much to me that I managed to scare the shit out of you with that lol. He gets. Just so much worse. Let's just say everyone in my discord servers I introduce him to universally hate him with a passion. Get ready.

ALSO technically parts of Declan and Lana's backstory are giant spoilers, including what will be one of the bigger plot twists, so I can't tell you just yet. HOWEVER, what I can do is reiterate and highlight things I've already said in-story, plus what's gonna be revealed soon when I actually upload her character profile lol. All that under the cut.

So the first time you really first start hearing about Lana is in Chapter 7, where we also meet Vaughn for the first time. In that, we learn that 1. Declan and Lana are ex boyfriend and girlfriend. As in they actually used to date. 2. Lana is Declan's boss now in some capacity (and was the one to order Stan's kidnapping), and 3, Declan fkn hates Lana. So much more than he hates Vaughn.

In Chapter 8, we learn that 4. Vaughn and Lana are currently dating. That's not really too relevant, but it's really funny to me because their relationship is... something. I'm sure you can imagine. It's very mutually manipulative and they both know it, its awesome.

Anyway, then in Ch. 9, through Stan and Deeby's yelling match, you learn that Declan and Lana's relationship is complicated and he refuses to talk about it, but 5. he's kinda obligated to do whatever Lana says or face unspecified consequences.

Skip to Chapters 11 and 12, the ones with Marcus at the convenience store getting harassed, where we first meet Lana in person. We learn a lot about her, mainly that she 6. acts pretty bubbly and ditzy but is actually pretty smart, 7. is completely fine with SA, 8. is manipulative as hell, 9. feels safe enough to fuck with Declan's plans because despite how much we know Deeby to exert his will over others, he wont do shit to stop her. and 10. The big one: she was the one to give Declan his burn scars (with acid btw. everyone in the story has a weapon of choice, bc superhero lol. Lana is injectable poisons, gasses, acids, etc.). This is mostly just something you could assume, but when she gave him that burn scar, that was the turning point when Lana started manipulating Deeby.

Chapter 15, it's mostly just more of the same, Lana telling Deeby to keep Stan for longer, and Deeby can't argue back, he hates Lana but he has to do what she says, whatever.

So, to put it all together for you: Lana has Deeby under her thumb for some reason. She acts fake, she's manipulative, she's relatively smart, and she dated Declan which means she would get to know some of the more intimate details about him that she could blackmail him with. Also something happened between them where she literally burned him with acid, and now she is his boss (she's the CEO of Supramed Corp. actually, which would be revealed whenever I get around to posting her character profile lol) and makes him do bounty hunting jobs as well as basically whatever she wants. That's what we know so far.

You'll learn more about Lana as a person as well as the nature of their relationship as time goes on, and a lot of Declan's behavior has been partially shaped because of her. There's a lot more to her that hasn't been uncovered yet, although the context clues are all there in the story. I just pointed out the specific ones that relate to Deccy.

Also, one last thing to leave you with. I focus a lot on eye color in this story, it's always very important, it tells you a lot. Lana has bright blue, sky blue type eyes. Can you maybe think of another time I've described a character with eyes like that?
