i ended up having fun designing different wedding outfits for hans instead of just one. whoops

as usual i took inspiration from references such as these illustrations and Auguste Racinet's The Costume History

Nothing is more intimidating to me right now than a curved line. All the sewing tutorials I'm finding online are "how to sew a curved line on your machine 🥰🥰" okay GREAT but before I even get to that stage, how do I trace the curved line on my fabric without it being wonky and asymmetrical??

Here is the doll I made of him out of scrap clothes, wires, air dry clay, and acrylic paint. The air dry clay was so difficult to work with, I nearly gave up, but honestly with the paint he tuned out better than I could've expected. He's not getting a uniform because I don't have the effort, and also he doesn't deserve it, so he can get an itchy wool coat instead.

soooo i embroidered a belgica shirt

inspired by this poster! you might not believe me but there aren't just belgica embroidery patterns lying around the internet lol, so i had to make my own!! its the first embroidery pattern i designed myself lol (and it probably shows)

this is the pattern! i traced it onto some stabilizer with a water soluble marker and then got to work. i think in my next attempts i'm going to include some of the lettering from the og poster (probably voyage de la belgica, or just belgica, on the front. and i'm honestly debating embroidering de gerlache on the back like a jersey lmao). i also think i'll outline the satin stitches of the boat next time, just for a bit more clarity of shape/cleanliness of lines

was inspired by a multiple people but especially @sqrkyclean to make a fursona who is ready for the beach!! they're a shark dog hybrid and they do deliveries of all sorts, from food to mail to groceries to medicine! they have a passion for fashion, secretly they want to learn to play volleyball or tennis but they're too shy to join a team, and they can also make a pretty good cocktail! their flower motif is supposed to be reminiscent of the humble rhododendron :) edit: unsure if it'll stick but i'm tentatively naming them Rhodie!

Seedling update!

The bok choy has fully formed true leaves and got its first drink of dilute fertilizer yesterday. I'll be sowing some seed in the cold frame bare spots today. I expect that will germinate and grow more slowly. The Swiss chard has caused me to raise that end of the shop light to keep from burning them. No progress on the Chinese cabbage, but I checked the seed packet and realized it was 10 years old (oops) and cabbage seeds don't tend to last that long. I added an excessive pinch of extra seed to each cell to see if any will germinate at all. If not, I do have another variety to use that's only 2 years old and will start it Fridayish.

Chinese broccoli proceeding nicely. Still no germination from the celeriac. Need to check the stats on that one to see if adding more seed is indicated.

Bulbing fennel is up! Only one cell is a dud so I added two more seeds. Tried growing this one in the earthboxes last year and while it grew nicely, it didn't bulb up. Instead I let it flower to support beneficials and used it to seed save. I still used seed from the original packet for this year, but I'll try planting it in the ground (raised bed) to see if the container was the problem. It will be in the same general area as the bronze fennel, so no seed saving this year.

And finally, I got two hands of older ginger in this week's haul of food waste for the chickens. It's a bit early, but I'm soaking them (to remove the anti-sprouting compounds) and will pot them up to grow. It generally takes 3-6 weeks for the sprouts to appear so I'll keep the pot in my very warm, bright bathroom until at least May. I've got some additional hands saved from last year's harvest to plant as well (without the anti-sprouting stuff) but they'll be going directly in two huge outdoor pots once it's warm enough.

This week's seeds to start will be basil and peppers. Have to go assess my overwintered pepper plants to see what's going to survive. I didn't keep any Shishito or pimento plants, so those for sure. I have genovese and sweet thai basils. Wish i had lemon basil too (it's SO good tossed with roasted veggies), but I'm out. Might also start a few cells of garden sage and thyme. I tried overwintering my thyme as I had a full small earthbox of it, but it died immediately upon moving it indoors *sad face*

i unraveled half a dishcloth about 3 times because i was having a toxic man-refusing-to-ask-for-directions moment and kept telling myself "nah you've knit stacks of these and it's literally the easiest pattern" and ignoring the fact that i've been crocheting for 3-4 years and could really spare 5 seconds to google a pattern as a refresher
