#I'm talking about Cid obviously

Okay I know I keep saying I'm gonna do a big post about Vincent in Rebirth and I've kinda been waiting until both my besties have gotten to him so that I can explode at both of them about him first, but there is one point that I've talked about a bit on the twits and I'm gonna babble about over here in greater detail.
There won't be a lot (if any?) direct spoilers here, but I'll be using screenshots that are absolutely spoilers to drive the point home, so keep that in mind.
Babbling under the cut.
One thing that really strikes me about Vincent's design in Rebirth is how he looks so...young. There's no other way to describe it, he looks young. In Advent Children and Dirge of Cerberus he had this sort of agelessness to him, particularly when compared to the rest of the cast; it was hard to get a read on how old he was aside from "younger than Hojo" because of this. He could have been anywhere from 25 to 35 at a glance, and up into a healthy 40+ during some scenes.
In Rebirth, that agelessness has been completely thrown out, and the only thing lending even an iota of uncertainty to his age is how covered up he is. The moment you see anything more than his eyes, it's excessively clear that this is a man in his mid-twenties, no older.
It's particularly obvious when he's confused or in pain, moments when he's not tooling his expression into something more neutral, when wouldn't be consciously presenting himself a specific way.
At a glance, Vincent is definitely older than Cloud, sure, but he's undeniably younger than Barret and Cid, he's younger than the majority of the extended cast—Reeve, Tseng, Rufus, the "emissary from Wutai," et cetera. He might even be younger than Sephiroth.
This makes the incongruity between his apparent age and his behavior hit particularly hard, in a way that it was never really able to in the Compilation thus far.
The way Vincent talks is off, noticeably off, and not just in a way to indicate education or accent—the way he structures his sentences follows grammatical standards from decades ago. Him commenting "if we're to stay the night" at Gold Saucer is one that really sticks out to me, because when other characters use similar sentence structure in the series (Genesis is the most egregious example of this) it's explicitly an indication that they're speaking in an old-fashioned way, they're being intentionally over-the-top. Vincent, though? He isn't doing that. The comment is so simple and offhand, there's no question that this is just how Vincent talks.
But he's a man in his twenties.
Vincent knows Dio as an antique collector, even though it's been over twenty years since he was in that business—Cid is the one that calls him out on this, because Cid clearly "knows" that he's older than Vincent, and Vincent brushes him off with a simple statement: "I've been around a while."
But he's...a man in his twenties?
When Cid warns him that the Tiny Bronco's radio is old enough to be considered an antique, Vincent is pleased—and in spite of having failed to properly operate the brick-phone-outdated security system in the mansion earlier, he has no problems operating the aforementioned antique radio.
But he's a man in his twenties! He's obviously a man in his twenties!
The juxtaposition between his appearance and his behavior is so stark as to be distressing; even if you don't know what happened to him, you can tell that there's something terribly wrong here.
Because Vincent Valentine is a man in his twenties, and he will be until the end of the world.

ok i'm rapidly losing hope that Tech is still alive, and this sucks because it was basically the top thing i desperately wanted from this season. i wanted to see him survive. so here's my exhaustive and embarrassingly long list of reasons why he SHOULD still be alive, and if he isn't, why it was a missed opportunity. obviously no hate to the writers or anything, i love them dearly for creating this show!!!
(if you're a "Tech should stay dead for the stakes/so someone in SW stays dead for once/i hate delusional Tech stans" person, kindly keep scrolling, this ain't for you)
SEASON 2:
right from the start, Romar connects with Tech and calls himself "a survivor." HELLO???
in this same arc, Tech breaks his leg in a fall which he survives. he continues to walk on it, fighting off troopers to save Echo & Omega, showcasing his persistence and grit.
one of Phee's first lines is "better late than dead," and we know she shares a connection with Tech. she flirts with him later in this scene. it would be a shame not to reuse this line, i'm just saying....
Cid still owes Tech for racing for her in Faster. we see Cid looking miserable as she betrays the batch in Plan 99, so her playing a part in his rescue/comeback would be a nice way to show her growth. (i'm afraid there isn't enough time for this, though- as much as i thought a Cid redemption was on the horizon!)
Phee and Tech's departure is awkward, and although we have some context from season 3 (they talked more than we realized), the scene would do best if reconciled in person imo. it felt like it was setting up for something, and feels weird to leave hanging.
"don't go running off with any pirates or smugglers" could not have just been a throw away line. it set up for him to do exactly that. how fitting would it be if pirates or smugglers actually did manage to pick him up before the empire made it to the railcar crash site?
Hemlock's retrieval of the goggles shows that he sent a team to look through the wreckage. he thought there was a chance Tech survived, and may have him.
i won't go into the logistics, but big falls ARE survivable. in star wars especially. we have no idea what was below the layer of clouds/mist Tech fell through.
SEASON 3:
this is mostly CX-2 centric. their armor is very similar: the jaw/mouth shape, the hexagons over the ears, the rectangles on the chest, and the pouches/pockets.
"domicile." that is all.
CX-2 uses technology more than the other operatives we've seen, and he gets past the encryption on Phee's ship with ease.
"who are you?" was enunciated in the exact same way Tech says it to Trace and Rafa, which i definitely think was intentional.
CX-2 stops to use his rifle scope in the exact same spot where Tech and Phee stood to let down the ladders in the sea surge on Pabu.
he survives a waterfall plunge on Teth, which appears to have fooled Rex's group into thinking he'd died. the writers could have killed him off there and sent a new operative, but they chose to stick with CX-2 pursuing them to Pabu.
it's worth noting that while this CX is designated as "2," Tech's CT number is CT-9902. he is associated with the number even on a visual level: he's a dual-wielder, he wears goggles, he salutes with two fingers.
FROM A STORY PERSPECTIVE:
firstly, i am sorry and i LOVE the writers, but if you want people to accept a character's death, you've got to show his family and friends' grief. we saw no reaction from Crosshair or Phee, no tears from Hunter or Echo. it feels like fans were sadder about Tech's death than the characters in the story.
Tech seems to have been mentioned more in the second half of season 3 than the first half, which works if they want to bring him back in the finale.
the finale is called "The Cavalry Has Arrived." i really don't think you can have the cavalry (aka the bad batch) arrive without every member present. i also don't think it would feel right to play their theme without Tech there. idk, that feels incomplete!
we saw no body, and Hunter received Tech's goggles not from a trusted ally or friend, but from Hemlock. this calls into question the legitimacy of his claim that the goggles were "all he could salvage."
Tech alive and being held on Tantiss would provide a nice parallel to Echo in the first mission where we meet the batch, in TCW. and [ep 14 SPOILERS] we see that Echo is currently looking more like his TCW self, with his earpiece removed.
feels kinda sour that a character who a lot of people related to as neurodivergent representation would die just a few episodes after having a deep conversation with his sister about it.
likewise (and as a white woman i can't speak for WOC), from what i have seen, Black women are rarely the main love interest of a series! Phee is the ONLY love interest in this whole show, and it would suck to just cut off that romance before it could really become something. a lot of people wanted to see TechPhee become canon.
CX-2 is the one who destroys the marauder. it works well storywise for its pilot to have been the one to do that- the person who worked so hard modifying it, flying it, and teaching his sister to fly it. i'll be lowkey pissed if it turns out some random dude blew it up.
it's also CX-2 who invades and sets fire to Pabu. this is emotionally gripping on its own, but if he is Tech, it's even more so.
we have no idea what the operatives go through. Crosshair isn't telling, but it clearly put him in a really bad place. if Tech underwent this conditioning in his post-fall injured state, there's a chance he could come back from it. Emerie is probably the key to this, if they take the CX-2 route.
this show is all about a family trying to stay together as the Empire desperately tries to rip them apart. seeing the whole family together again - even if not everyone survives - in the finale is the satisfaction that the show ideally would go for. the last time they were all together was the season 1 finale. that was about 2 years ago in the show's timeline.
leaving Crosshair and Tech's final interactions be where they parted on the Kamino platform also feels off. Tech was the one who really vocalized the need to rescue Crosshair in season 2's finale. Crosshair, in the meantime, has changed significantly as a person. Tech's comment about Crosshair being "severe and unyielding," and unable to change this facet of his nature, is incorrect. leaving Tech dead would mean that he never gets to see this change in Crosshair, which makes me feel like a deflated balloon.
FROM MY SELFISH PERSPECTIVE!!!
give me Tech with cool scars and slightly disheveled longer hair. this is such a good opportunity for the creators to give him a sweet new look!
we never got to see Tech without his goggles on, despite Phee constantly referring to his eyes. he definitely doesn't have them right now (they're in the Archium), so we could get Mister Big Brown Eyes if he's alive. it's another missed opportunity if not, imo!
the goggles being placed in the Archium was a beautiful scene that makes me tear up whenever i think about it. it's symbolic, it's bittersweet, and it's exactly where the goggles belong. but was it closure for me? not really.
Tech is a character who became a LOT of people's favorite in season 2, including my own. why kill off a fan-favorite with an entire season to go?
yes, i desperately want a Rex and Echo series. yes, i want the batch to cameo in it, and yes... that includes Tech. making up for lost season 3 Tech content 😎
the finale will feature the zillo beast, and Tech loves the zillo beast. FREE HER! REUNITE THEM! he would love to witness her rampage.
FROM A "SURPRISE!!!!!" PERSPECTIVE
it seems like most people think Tech is either CX-2 or dead. it would be a great finale twist if we DID get CX-2's identity, it's NOT Tech, the audience loses hope, and then he shows up. i think this is actually plausible given the other assassin schematics Hemlock was looking at in Point of No Return. Tech might be in Hemlock's grasp, but not an active operative. having an enhanced clone to toy with is something Hemlock would want to keep under wraps. we see him step out of the assassin chamber at the start of that episode - if Tech is anywhere on Tantiss, i think it's here.
i think the writers have expected us to have all lost hope by now, so his finale reappearance would ideally come as a shock. the finale is almost guaranteed to be a very long episode, so we really might have quite a bit of time to explore his return, if it happens.
secret 16th episode: i know, i'm putting my clown makeup on as i type this. but the previous 2 seasons each had 16 episodes, with a two-parter finale. season 3 is just 15, with a single episode finale. TBB formally ends may 1st, so what if we get a may 4th surprise episode detailing how Tech survived? (that or an epilogue leading into a new series, which i think is more likely actually!)
#i definitely forgot some points but i just need to post this and be done with it#feel free to add your own observations 👀#tbb tech#the bad batch#tech lives#techphee#tbb spoilers#the bad batch spoilers

Of course I cried (a TBB S1 Retrospective and cry fest)
I finished S1 and it honestly is still stands really strong. While I love the other seasons more (for quite obvious reasons), S1 still has really standout moments and episodes such as the finale. Crosshair might be in is bad boy era, but he's still incredibly compelling.
What hurts to me most about S1 is this image above. This is the last time CF99 is all together. Ever. Obviously, we didn't know that and neither did our boys and Omega. Even if the Batch knew in-universe there was a chance that they would never see each other again, I think deep down they hoped they would reunite. I know Omega had hope that Crosshair would somehow find his way home.
What makes S1 (and the whole show in retrospect) even more tragic is that we will never see the BB whole ever again. It makes Tech's death hurt that much more because he and Crosshair never made proper amends. The last thing he hears Crosshair talk about is how everyone else is foolish for not joining the Empire and making his choice to stay. One of the last memories Crosshair really has of his brother is him pointing his blaster at him. After that, it's a one way ticket to suffering for Crosshair.
I know it's just a show, but images like the one above make me wish we had more time with the Batch before they were so cruelly torn apart from each other and it only enhances the tragedy they go through. The series finale, no matter how sunshiney it looks, is still bittersweet. The Batch finally get their freedom but at a great cost. Tech doesn't make it. Crosshair is still deeply hurting. It's a harsh reality that breaks my heart. In Rebels, we had 3 seasons of the Ghost crew together before we lost both Kanan and (temporarily) Ezra. The BB don't even get a single season all together. I would've loved to see them all with each other at least one more time without all the conflict.
But looking at S1 as a whole in general, I still really enjoy it. I love episodes like "Common Ground" or "War-Mantle" because we see how monstrous the Empire really is right out of the gate. Rampart, as goofy as that scream made him look, is a very crafty and entertaining villain who you just want to punch in the face. Crosshair himself is a fantastic villain who's both ruthless and tragic. While he doesn't hold back, the clear attachment he still has to his brothers in the back half of the season make the finale that much more emotional.
And while you can argue there is a lot of "filler," a rewatch proves that each episode happens for a reason. Why did the Batch have to capture a baby Rancor? So they could get info on Fennec. How come they stuck around to help Cid? Because she gave them money and work. I'm not saying that it's the most entertaining content we've seen, but there is a clear purpose for why those episodes happen.
I would've loved to see more Crosshair (for obvious reasons), but I do think the first season does balance out the story arcs well and when we do see him, he is always great. Thanks to the great music and acting from DBB, I do think the first season makes it clear that while Crosshair isn't leaving the Empire, he's not the same man he was pre-Bracca. The chip's influence isn't there (or at the very least severely diminished based on how you interpret Cross' reveal) and he does want them back but only on his terms.
As for the others, I definitely understand Hunter a bit more. He wants to help Crosshair, but he really doesn't know how nor does he want to endanger the others. I wish the group had a least one conversation about it though. For a group that feels like they should be very tight knit, it still feels like they brush Cross' departure off quite quickly. It's kinda like the Tech scenario in S3 where you know they're thinking about it, but nobody says anything. And that's frustrating because you know the Batch have a lot on their mind, especially Crosshair. And ironically, the quietist of the Batch is the most vocal about his feelings. Crosshair is so expressive and it's one of my favorite things about it.
Omega is such a cute munchkin. I adore her with every fiber of my being. She takes everything with stride and I love how S1 establishes many skills (like the hustling) that will later come into play in S2 or S3. And the show isn't afraid to show her learning process. Omega makes many mistakes, but she learns quickly and tries again. She loves her brothers so much.
Overall, S1 is still very strong and much more tragic in retrospect. I guess in someways, it reminds us how unfair life can be sometimes and that's why we gotta cherish each moment. Tech might no longer be with us, but he lives on through each of his brothers and Omega. Cross might never see him again, but as he tries to be better, Tech is no doubt smiling down from Clone Heaven.
Anyways, onto S2 (and more sadness). TBB lowkey is the most tragic of the SW animated shows not counting the Siege of Mandalore arc in CW. Every season, something awful happens to tear our little clone family apart. That's why the ending on Pabu, no matter the quality of writing, meant so much to me.

Prompt List Celebration 3000 Followers
Echo X F!Reader
word count: 820
SFW
prompt:
“Wait, you think I’m cute?”
warnings: none, pure fluff. Female reader, reader becomes flustered around Echo, Echo being a flirt.
Authors note: thank you dear! Kicking and squealing writing this one. Enjoy.
"Do you have a type?"
The unexpected and whimsical query made you stifle a chuckle, almost spitting my drink across the bar.
Sitting with Bolo and Ketch, two regulars of Cid's bar, although it often felt as though yourself and the Batchers were becoming regulars as well. "What do you mean?" You asked, taken aback by the sudden question, clearing your voice from the surprise.
Bolo, with a mischievous grin, nudged Ketch and asked, "You're single, right? So, what's your type?"
"Definitely not you," You quipped with a playful smile, earning a round of laughter from the two.
Despite their jesting, they persisted with the same question. "To be honest, I don't think I have a type," You admitted, though it wasn't entirely truthful. There was one characteristic you looked for in a partner, but it just so happened to belong to a certain Clone.
"Hasn't any of those guys you hang out with asked you out?" Bolo, the lthorian, asked with a hint of intrigue, causing a warm blush to rise to your cheeks. The compliment was flattering, but the thought of being asked out by your friends was both awkward and endearing. But with Echo and his kind heart and constant support, immediately came to the forefront of your mind.
He was always there for you, a shoulder to cry on (although the was a little timid about it at first) and your go-to in times of need. He was simply… lovely.
As you glanced around the dimly lit bar, you’re reminded that your friends were off on a mission and it was just the three of you. Perhaps it was a moment of bravery, or perhaps foolishness, but you decided to share a secret with the two fools. "If I tell you something, you have to swear not to tell the others."
The pair of them gazed at each other in surprise, clearly taken aback that you were willing to confide in them. They nodded eagerly, leaning in closer with interest.
"I, uh," your voice carried a stammer, feeling bashful as you prepared to divulge your feelings for Echo to these two. "I do have a crush on one of the guys."
"Yeah?! Who?" they asked in unison, their grips on the table tight with excitement.
Taking a deep breath, chewing on your lower lip, Echo's name escaped past your lips.
"Him? Killjoy?" They both looked at each other, confused. "Why?"
You couldn't help but giggle, swirling the last remnants of your drink around in my glass bashfully. "I just feel happy when I'm with him. He's kind… dreamy." You trailed off, seemingly lost in thought and forgetting I was with company.
"Dreamy?" Bolo scrunched up his brows in mock disgust, though you could sense his excitement at this new revelation.
Your cheeks flushed red as you realized you had spoken your thoughts out loud. "He's cute. Okay? Are you happy now?"
“Wait, you think I’m cute?”
The sound of Echo's voice startled you, causing your heart to skip a beat and your eyes to widen in surprise. You’re frozen to your seat as you stare straight ahead at Bolo and Ketch who are now instantly standing up and running off.
Slowly, you turned around on your chair to find him standing behind you.
“Hi.”
“Hello.” He says with a soft chuckle escaping his lips and placing his helmet down on the table beside him before approaching you.
"Hi," you repeated again, obviously feeling a little flustered by the sudden appearance of the man who had been the subject of your secret confessions.
"Anything you want to talk about, pretty girl?" Echo prompted, standing in front of you as his fingers gently push a strand of hair behind your ear, sending shivers down your spine.
"I-I-I uh-," you stammered, feeling completely tongue-tied and flustered as he gazed down st you with warm, sparkling eyes
"Well for the record," Echo interrupted your stuttering, tilting his head as he looked at you with a charming smile. "I think you're cute too. And dreamy." He repeats what you had said previously which only adds to your embarrassment.
But… he said you were cute? And dreamy, too? Does this mean…?
His words sent a rush of heat through your body, leaving you feeling completely enamored and unable to say anything in response. To which, Echo takes pity on you and almost cockily, a sudden boost of confidence shooting through him, leans forward and places a kiss to your cheek which was very, very close to your lips. “Speak after? I need to have a chat with Cid.”
He takes a step back, scoots up his helmet and sends you a wink. Where did that confidence come from?
You watch him leave through to the back room and as soon as he’s out of eyeline, you sucked in a deep breath, finally catching your breath back and let out a squeak of excitement.
Did that just happen?

Create a dialogue of the anime waifus talking about who they rather date.
Ok,this will feature:
Gathered in a cozy room, the air buzzes with laughter and playful banter as the characters engage in a lighthearted debate about their ideal dates:
Robin: "I'm not really one for romance, but if I had to choose, it would be Zoro. He's strong, dependable, and, well, getting lost all the time means I'd always have an interesting day trying to find him!"
Yor: (nervously twirling her hair)* "Oh, I'm already married to Loid, so I'm not looking... but if I weren't, I suppose I'd still choose him. He's... um, a good husband?"
Makima: "Younger boys do seem to find me... intriguing. Denji, for instance, he's quite... devoted. And who can resist that naive charm and unwavering loyalty?"
Hinata: (blushing furiously) "N-Naruto-kun is my choice! He's so brave, kind, and his dream is so inspiring! I've always loved him, even when we were kids."
Mikasa: "Eren. He's more than just strong. He fights with everything he has for freedom, and I've always been by his side. That's where I belong."
Shinobu: (smile not quite reaching her eyes) "Giyuu, of course. His stoic nature is... endearing. And he's a pillar, strong and reliable. What's not to like?"
Noelle: (puffing up with pride) "I would never admit it out loud, but... Asta. Yes, he's loud and can be utterly stupid, but he's also strong-willed and doesn't care about one's status. For a royal like me, that's... refreshing."
Yoruichi: "Strength is key. I'd need someone who can keep up with me, someone who's not afraid to spar. It's the best kind of date, don't you think?"
Alpha: "Cid, without a doubt. His strength, his intellect, his mysterious aura... There's no one else who could match me so perfectly."
Mei Mei: "A rich guy, obviously. Wealth indicates power and resourcefulness. Why settle for less when you can have the best?"
Zero Two: (clasping her hands together dreamily) "Hiro! We're destined for each other, connected by fate and love. He understands me like no one else ever could."
Erza: "I live for the thrill of battle, it's true. But Jellal... he's different. He understands the weight of the past and the hope for the future. Plus, he can handle a sword almost as well as I can."

Guess I Waited Too Long
So this is my first Bad Batch fic, criticism is welcome as long as its kind and constructive. All my work will be for 18+ but when has that stopped anyone?
Y'all are gonna hate me cause its reader x tech but make it angsty . Phee and Tech are blossoming into somewhat of a relationship and reader is hurt and does the only thing she knows how: she walks away. Reader is fem presenting and has female anatomy but its not explicit. Just my vision. Can be read as GN.
No warnings I can think of other than maybe talk of sex?
Word count is around 2k
Anyway, have fun!!!
You had worked at Cid’s long before the Batch came along. You didn’t mind the work. It was steady and something you could handle. It was a plus to see 4 handsome men every other day. However it did sadden you greatly to know Echo had left to join his brother in his quest to help other clones. You made sure to give Omega extra love and attention as you could see she was struggling with the departure of her brother. You saw her as a little sister and often times would tease her as you would but she always knew you never meant it and loved her dearly.
What you didn’t like however, was Phee’s constant flirting. Whenever that pirate came in you were always irritated until she left. Something Hunter had picked up on. Tech thought it was just a matter of annoyance as Phee could embellish her stories instead of telling the truth, but Hunter picked up on the real reason: You liked Tech, and you got jealous anytime someone else flirted with him. Even Wrecker could see you went out of your way to spend time with the intelligent clone, so it was no secret to anyone except Tech that you were in love. You had yet to make a move as you didn’t think Tech would want you in that way. But it would stand to show that you should’ve way sooner.
You were standing the behind the bar as the batch walked in from their last adventure, much to your displeasure, with Phee. Your annoyance soon turned into your heart dropping when you saw Tech and Phee standing closer and him flirting back. Hunter noticed your heart had sped up and looked at you with concern only to see your eyes landing on Tech and your smile fall. Hunter knew you had a thing for his brother and was a bit sad you never made a move. Maker knows Tech would never catch onto the fact he himself had feelings so it had fallen to you.
"You okay?
You looked over to see a handsome man in a bandana starely at you expectantly. "Hmm hm," you nodded. "I'm fine. Just surprised to see Phee and Tech so close." You continued washing the last couple of glasses you had been working on to avoid letting your emotions overcome you.
Hunter raised an eyebrow, obviously unconvinced. You knew that look and turned to Cid who came out of her office. "Hey Cid? Do you mind if Hunter walks me home? And if I clock out a bit early?"
The Trandoshan waved her claw dismissively. "Yeah yeah, it's not busy. Go on home. Keep her safe Bandana!"
You bid Wrecker and Omega goodnight and sent Phee and Tech a smile before leaving with Hunter. The pirate returned it but Tech frowned. You had always asked him to walk you home. What changed? Had he been rude? Since Echo's departure he had been a bit callous but he didn't think he had treated you that way. What had he done to upset you?
"Don't you worry about her Brown Eyes," Phee nudged. "She's in safe hands. Plus she can hold her own no problem."
Tech looked over at Phee, seeing the truth in her eyes. She was right of course, Hunter would keep you safe. And he had seen you defend yourself against numerous drunkards. Still, he had felt a little hurt you hadn't asked him. Still deep in thought, he allowed Phee to drag him over to the bar for drinks where they continued their debrief of the mission.
____________________________________________________________
Hunter came inside your apartment, knowing you needed someone with you. You pulled a bottle of Corellian whiskey from your cupboard and took a swig.
"What the fuck have I done Hunter?" you whispered. "I just let the man I love slip away because I was too much of a coward to let him know I had feelings."
Taking the bottle away, Hunter enveloped you in a hug, knowing his short would soon be stained with tears. He knew Tech had some sort of feeling for you but now that he and Phee were getting close he didn't think anything would happen with you now.
"You did what you thought was the best course of action. You didn't think Tech would return your feelings so you didn't risk the friendship. That's is a solid decision. A stupid one, but a solid one." Hunter pulled away so he could raised your head to face him. "So what's the plan now mesh'la? Tell him or no?"
You looked at Hunter's chest and grimaced. "No." You pulled away to sit on your couch. "He's happy Hunter. As happy as one can be with your lifestyle of running around and hiding from the Empire. He found that with Phee. I'm not gonna take that away from him."
No you weren't. You were going to walk away. Let the man you love be happy, even if it wasn't with you.
Hunter could tell you had cooked something up in your mind but didn't push. He made sure you were okay before heading back to Cid's; mainly to make sure Omega was still there and settling down.
You on the other hand: You had messaged Cid, asking her to cut your hours. When she asked why, you replied 'I'll explain tomorrow before my shift"

"No way! Nuh uh! I am not cutting your hours. You're my best girl here toots! I'm not losing revenue because you don't wanna work here."
"Cid, you send the boys away every other day! I'll work whenever they're not here. To up the ante, I'll show more cleavage when I'm here. Pigtails, heels, short skirts. Whatever you want, just please. I can't be around them right now."
Cid smiled, obviously liking the offer. "No bra unless it's for the outfit, short skirts and crops. I'll call you whenever they leave for extended periods of time. You'll be raking in the dough."
Omega overheard you and Cid and immediately went to find Hunter, who just happened to be with Tech, talking about ship upgrades.
"I think something's wrong with her," she concluded after repeating what she had heard. "She'd never do that."
This was rather distressing for Tech to hear. While you had never lowered yourself to debauchery, it was easy to see why Cid would agree. Tech couldn't help but notice your curves, your eyes, breasts, hair... everything about you was captivating. You had self respect though, you once told Tech you would never lower yourself to show yourself off just to make some extra money.
Hunter, as disappointed as he was, wasn't really surprised. This was a step in trying to forget about Tech and he knew that. He knew you needed distraction and male attention was a fair idea. He noticed how attractive you were. It was a good way to make extra.
Phee approached you, sitting at the bar, pouring herself a beer. You raised a brow. "Can I help you Phee?"
Throwing her hands in surrender, she went into defense. "Now hold on there sweet thing. I come in peace." Leaning forward, she spoke like she was offering the secret to the universe. "I actually wanted to ask you something."
You scowled. "Spit it out Phee. I do have a job to do."
Smirking, Phee elaborated. "It's about our goggled friend over there with the kid," gesturing to Tech and Omega. "I understand you have a thing for him."
"At one time... yes," you said cautiously. "What's it to you Phee?"
Softly she smiled, letting her sarcastic demeanor fall. "I like him girly. I was hoping I'd have your blessing to... continue seeing him."
You looked over at Tech, knowing he'd be happy with Phee. He never belonged to you. Just because you liked him didn't mean he was yours. He never was...
"He's a free man Phee. He can make his own choices. He doesn't need me interfering."
__________________________________________________________
What Hunter wasn't prepared for was you telling them that you had found a second job and weren't going to be around very much. After you made that announcement he pulled you aside.
"What the actual kriff do you think you're doing? First the new outfits but now a second job?"
Your face darkened and Hunter saw every emotion under the sun from anger to resignation to sadness.
"You know karking well Hunter that it hurts to be around him. Around them! I'll work here when you're off world and then at the store when you are. The less I see Phee and Tech bring all couple-y cute the happier I'll be."
Hunter could sense Tech was around the corner but didn't stop you. He could feel Tech getting closer but didn't stop you, hoping for kriff's sake, Tech would hear your words
"It's been four months Hunter. I love him. I want what's best for him. If he's happy with Phee and she's who he wants to be with, fine. As long as he's happy. But I cannot risk letting my jealousy and anger get the best of me. So I'm walking away. Completely."
And with that, you left. You never knew if Tech had heard you or not and you didn't care. Not anymore.
You threw yourself into work, making bank and drowning in credits. The Batch visited you at your new job, grateful to see you fully dressed. You limited your interaction with Tech which caused him distress. While yes, he was happy with Phee and enjoyed her company, he missed you.
Tech tried many times to see you by yourself but you always had an excuse to leave him alone. Whether it was a customer, client, or you simply had 'other things to do'.
Phee had noticed Tech was upset at you not being around. She wasn't helping the situation much by going off on adventures. She had asked Tech if he wanted to pursue you instead of her. He assured her, he was happy. Just sad to have lost a friend. He had no plans on ending the relationship that had blossomed. Just upset you had so carelessly walked away without thinking about how it would hurt him.
______________________________________________________________
Omega and Wrecker had entered the store, a poor Tooka cat curled in Omega's arms. It wasn't the first time they'd entered with an injured animal. You had a feeling it wouldn't be the last.
"Leave him with me darlings. I'll take care of him." You dropped the Tooka off at the vet, hoping someone would claim the little cat. You closed the store and locked up, sweeping what dirt came in from the day.
You heard the door swoosh open, annoying you.
"We're closed! Come back tomorrow" you yelled out.
Looking up from your task, you saw the last person you ever wanted to interact with.
Tech. Of course he could bypass the security and enter the store.
You sighed and turned back to sweeping. "I'm busy Tech. What do you want?" You hoped it was a question about your products cause you had a shift at Cid's pretty soon. You had already removed your underclothes and changed into a shorter skirt and crop. You needed out of this store. Away from him.
"Have I done something to upset you?"
What??
"Tech, you ship out in 2 hours. Do you really want to spend that time with me and not your girlfriend??
"Answer the question. Have I offended you in some way?"
You put the broom away and continued closing procedures as you felt Tech's eyes on you. "No. You haven't. You good now?" Never looking at him.
It wasn't often you saw Tech angry. More protective but he did scare a bit by forcibly pulling you away from your till. He pushed you into your cashier chair and stood in front of you.
"Phee is away on a treasure hunt. I don't ship out for another three hours. And that is not the answer I was wanting."
"Tech, for kriff's sake, I have to close the store! Now let me- "
"You are going to stay there until you explain why you left us. Left me."
Your eyes darkened to the point they looked black. Tech suddenly felt nervous, like he'd gone to far. But he needed an answer. Why would you suddenly walk away?
You pushed him away, storming over to the till and finished closing procedures. He followed you out the door and waited until you had set the alarm and locked up.
You paused before looking at the clone. You contemplated telling the truth but it was too late. He wouldn't accept it anyway.
"Tech, I have not left. I am just busy. Money is tight and I -"
"That's a karking lie! I know you've been making good money. You are avoiding me. You pay close attention to Hunter and Wrecker. You dote on Omega and I get a cold shoulder."
Gods, you hated how intelligent and calm he sounded, even when angry. It was titillating and and sexy. You loved him but hated how sexiness came so easy to him.
With a resigned sigh, you walked past him, shaking his hand off. "Go home Tech. You don't need me. You never have. You have your squad and Phee. Forget about me"
Tech stood there, angry and hurt. He let you walk away. He wanted you in his life. He missed the friendship, the camaraderie. He missed you visiting him while he worked on the ship. He missed your laugh and smile. He missed you.
With a comm from Hunter, he left to join the squad on another mission, missing the good luck hug and peck on the cheek you'd often give him.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Haha so that was that. Let me know if y'all want a part 2. Particularly you Tech simps like me!
Mesh'la: beautiful in Mando'a
Enjoy!!

About Crosshair's absence
I read someone claiming TBB writers made a bad job at showing the impact of Crosshair's absence in the squad despite the fact that he was supposedly a vital member of the team.(see post here !)
I desagree with that statement. See my ramble under the cut.
First, is Crosshair so vital for the team in a non-war situation?
He's a sniper-an exceptionally skilled one-so he was super valuable on the battle field to provide cover for his brothers. I mean if 3 (then 4 with Echo) guys barged into a battalion of droid without this kind of support, they'd probably last 10 minutes before being shot in the back.
So he was essential to the team for this kind of missions. I'm not saying that's all he can do, but this was clearly something he was the only one able to provide.
But is that skill so vital when you go on the type of missions Cid send our boys to? I don't think so. It'll help, sure, but they can manage without it.
So skill-wise, and in terms of completing the missions, Crosshair's absence is manageable for the squad, in my opinion. Which isn't to say some of their fuck-ups couldn't have been avoided if Crosshair was there...
Then there's the supposedly lack of depiction of mourning and this is where the neurodivergence headcanon kicks in.
Well first, we are talking about soldiers that have been trained their whole life to deal with death. They are trained to keep going whatever happens. They are trained to not allow their feelings to stop them from completing a mission.
Do they miss him? He'll yes! Do they show it? Nope. Is it healthy? Of course not, but do they even know how to deal with this?
I mean, in a way death would be easier to cope with. Their brother chose to go his separate way and TRIED TO KILL THEM.
Can you imagine the mixed feelings? They were taught to diffuse bombs, not that kind of stuff!
I think Wrecker is so confused about it his brain puts it all in a box to protect him. He misses his brother, he'll cry is out against Lula some nights, but he's not thinking about why Crosshair is acting like that or if he'll ever come back. His brain is like "we'll deal with that later". Later happens on Pabu. One day as he's helping a fisherman, Wrecker finds out the man lost his brother at sea. They spend hours talking about it, and it helps.
With Tech, I think it's always been out of sight out of mind. He can't help it, it's how his brain works. So most of the times, he doesn't realizes Crosshair isn't here. Until something random sparks a memory of his brother and it hits him hard. He'll stay up late, crippled with the sudden urge to talk to his brother but not being able to. He knows there's no reasoning with Cross, so he doesn't waste energy looking for a way to bring him back. All he can do is hope that his brother will change his mind and realizes he chose the wrong side. When it happens, when Tech receives that message sent from Tantiss, he doesn't hesitate one second. There's no hard feelings, no resentment. Time has come to bring Crosshair back and he'll do anything to do so. Any-fucking-thing! I think he knew all along the odds were against them. I think he knew for sure they were screwed when they encountered Saw Guerrera. (I'm gonna go cry a minute...)
Echo is maybe the one who's having the hardest time forgiving Crosshair. You don't turn against your brothers. It's his number one rule. Plus, he's got so many losses to cope with already, he can't add another one. It's easier for him to blame Cross for his bad decisions. It's a sort of denial, obviously. One of many reasons that pushes him away from the batch and back with Rex. Thanks to that, he encounters more clones who had their inhibitor chips activated and begins to understand that it really wasn't Cross' fault, at least not entirely. It doesn't take much convincing to get him on board to rescue Crosshair. He's not gonna leave a brother behind.
And lastly, Hunter... Hunter who's so angry and hurt and GUILTY that he pours his heart and soul into Omega. She becomes an hyperfixation. Because let's be honest, his decision to keep her with the squad was a little bit selfish. Of course she wanted to stay, but she's a kid who's offered adventure after spending her whole life in a lab! The sensible thing to do was to leave her with Tuc and Sue until the squad settled in a more adequate situation to raise a child. Keeping her with him and taking her to mission was Hunter's unconscious way to fill the void left by Crosshair. He wants her to take Cross' place so bad that he even forgets she's not here when he grounds her for that mission to retrieve a Separatist governor. He makes some bad decisions too because he can't think straight when she's involved. It takes Pabu and seeing her with Lyana for him to remember she really is just a kid and he's not giving her what she needs. Then the unthinkable happens. But that's for another post.
Aaaaand again this is way too fucking long. I'm sorry. Thank you if you read it this far. I'd live to hear your thoughts on this.

Vibrating excitedly because it's time for Battle Scars and I am READY.
Obsessed with this opening honestly. Everything is happening at once. Everyone is yelling. Echo is just trying to get the hyperdrive back online. Omega has named the lizard. (Interesting that it IS Ruby and she picked the name... but when we see it with Roland, the name is in fact Ruby. So either she DIVINED THE NAME or Roland hadn't named her yet and somehow the Ruby name got passed to him and he's like. Yeah this is a Ruby. Great instincts kid I will surely never meet!)
Also crawling onto Wrecker's face, he is ALREADY HAVING A BAD TIME. IT'S GONNA GET WORSE.
Successful Cid job tally: 1 failed, 2 successes
Hunter's very doubtful UH-HUH... THE KID. is so cute.... I miss him, season 2 Hunter is SO FUCKING DEPRESSED. LIKE LITERALLY ABOUT TO LAY DOWN AND SLEEP FOR 200 YEARS DEPRESSED.
Cornered introduced them to Money and Bribes, Battle Scars introduces them to CREDIT CARD DEBT.
TWENTY CARTONS OF MANTELL MIX. JUST BEEN PUTTING IT ON CID'S TAB THE WHOLE TIME.
Bolo and Ketch trying to fight Rex is SO fucking funny. Boys you won't win that one. Go sit down.
I'M SORRY I AM NEVER OVER TECH PIPING UP WITH "THAT'S NOT HER UGLY SIDE?" DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF CID. ABSOLUTE LACK OF SHITS TO GIVE. LOOK AT HIS FIELD OF FUCKS AND NOTE THAT IT IS BARREN.
We do love Rex's poncho disguise. Nothing says stealth like having your EXTREMELY DISTINCTIVE ARMS ON DISPLAY.
"Being dead in the Empire's eyes has its advantages" sounds like another line that could come back with Tech.
CUTE SMILES <3
Rex immediately kneeling down to talk to Omega is adorable but when she gets way into his personal space he looks SO NERVOUS AND ANXIOUS. AND THEN SHE TELLS HIM HE HAS WRINKLES.
Tech very casually like OUR INHIBITOR CHIPS DON'T WORK EXCEPT IN CROSSHAIR like yes Wrecker is having migraines, etc, but it's probably fine. Genius that cannot conceive of his family continuing to dwindle so he just assumes Wrecker will be okay probably. He has to be right?
Still seeing Rex go for his blaster for them hurts me.
HUNTER STANDING IN FRONT OF TECH THOUGH WHEN THINGS GET TENSE. HE PROTECT.
I don't want to bury anymore of our brothers.
Listen I do still think it's funny that Rex unlike Cut has Zero Reaction to Crosshair being missing and apparently has not asked, but I do think that it would be interesting to get him talking about the chips with Crosshair. Rex has no reason to lie to make him feel better. You can't resist the chips and Crosshair isn't special in that regard.
Wrecker thinks he's nervous about the surgery now but soon he gets to see that the surgery suite is also a complete wreck!
Obsessed with this shot WHY does Tech looks like he belongs in blurry bigfoot footage?
Rex not mentioning Ahsoka makes so much sense actually he has no idea what might make their chips suddenly activate so best not to mention the help he got from a former Jedi
So Wrecker starts out getting attacked by a lizard, has a horrifying migraine, has to go across a terrifying pit on a cord which immediately breaks, smacks him into a wall, and dangles him upside down by one leg to fish for some sort of horrid creature. AND IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE FOR HIM FROM HERE.
Tech complaining about the cleanliness again like he didn't live in some sort of biohazard train wreck in a bed that looks like this
God the way Omega is already worried about being left all alone in Battle Scars. Baby, I want you to have your whole family back so bad more than I've wanted anything ever. Also Hunter's response here is "You're stuck with us for the long run" and I just feel like it would be exceptionally mean spirited to have that and then have Omega alone at the end like a lot of theories predict.
God the moment that Wrecker grabs Tech is still the most fucking chilling thing. And obviously the chip was already activating but I wonder if it's what Hunter was talking about, saying 'at least we helped the Padawan escape' that finally pushed it over the edge.
THE MUSIC CUTTING OUT WHEN WE ZOOM IN ON WRECKER'S PUPIL EXPANDING.
Someone pointed out ONE TIME that when Wrecker is pinning him to the wall Hunter tries to tap out by tapping his wrists twice and I can never again NOT notice that. Trying to get through to Wrecker but Wrecker's not in right now. It's just the fucking chip.
HE WAS JUST GOING TO MURDER THE FUCKING CHILD.
Chipped Wrecker is terrifying and honestly vital to see before we get to Reunion. The viewer NEEDS to understand just how unbeatable the chips are in order to understand Crosshair's character arc, we need to see it in someone that we know is completely trustworthy and good in order to see how much it Does Not Matter how good you are.
The thing with this show is that I've always felt like it REALLY understands where it's going with its narrative. Whatever else people might think about it, it does understand how to lay the groundwork to support the themes and family dynamics and it does feel completely sketched out.
Omega honey shaking him will not make Wrecker wake up faster please give him some breathing room.
EVERYONE FALLING ASLEEP AROUND WRECKER. MY HEART.
The way Tech pops straight up from being completely conked out in a chair KILLS ME.
They went so far as to shave like a quarter of Tech's head for the surgery but they didn't touch Hunter's at all. He allowed exactly one (1) square inch to be shaved off and he immediately hid it under his fucking bandana.
The animation is so detailed though, they left hair stubble behind even.
Here Wrecker eat Omega's pocket mix that she has been carrying for who knows how long.
Hunter saying he's still figuring out what's best for his squad. End of season two he still doesn't have it yet.
Rex mysteriously fucking vanishing into the fog is so funny, that is exactly how to exit the screen. Just fade into the fog like a mysterious unicorn.
And of course the Doom Ending to lead into Reunion.

Episode 9 Thoughts
TBB Season 2 Spoilers
Here we go! Another great episode with some good stuff to talk about so let's get into it!
Soundtrack is incredible as always. Loving the slightly western tones. It's kinda giving TLOU meets RDR2.
PRETTY PLANET!!!
The planet designs this season have been awesome. ✨️
They're on a mining mission???
Well, work is work I guess. 🤣
I love that they're addressing the fact that Echo being gone means they need to reevaluate how they split up the team on missions.
They've worked with a squad of 4 before, but when one of them is a child that makes things a little trickier.
Omega misses Echo. ☹️
Same, girl. Same.
"Omega's a child. She shouldn't be living a dangerous life". *proceeds to make Omega extract highly explosive substances*.
THE ONE TIME THE DOOR TO A SHIP IS ACTUALLY CLOSED AND IT STILL GETS NICKED?!
Might explain why SW characters always leave the door open.
BECAUSE IT DOESN'T SEEM TO MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE!
So much bickering between Wrecker and Tech this episode. 😬
The kids are struggling. They're children of divorce. 😔
I'm kidding, but they're obviously all about stressed out atm. They all need a spa day.
Also, is this the longest we've seen them spat with each other? We always had the odd frustrated comment but they're being particularly snarky this episode.
Echo, pls come back. It's all going wrong and it's only been 5 minutes since you left. 😭
Well that explains the weird Lion King cryptic tweet.
Poor Wrecker. 😭 He just got stampeded over.
Great, now we're all stuck in a dark cave. Wonderful!
Omega constantly trying to comm Echo. 🥲
He's doing important stuff, sweetheart, but I'm sure you can talk to him again.
Hopefully. 🥲
"What is your issue?"
Tech, honey. Nooo. 😭
I'm not gonna call him an arsehole for that because he didn't know he was doing anything wrong but oh dear.
WRECKER'S DISAPPOINTED HEADSHAKE! 😭
I thought Omega was just gonna walk all the way down the mine for a second.
Brothers call each other out on their (even if unintentional) shitty behaviour and we love to see it.
Tech looks so cute with his eyes peaking through his helmet. 🩷
Omega, honey. You can't reach the thing. Stop reaching for the thing!
THIS IS WHY YOU STOP REACHING FOR THE THING!!!
Tech jumping in straight after her even though he can't see what's down there. 🥺
Actually, I don't know why I remembered this bit just now but I gotta mention it. Echo is Havoc 4 and Omega is Havoc 5. Did they cut Crosshair out of the number system??? 😭
And if he rejoined, would that make him Havoc 6 or would he get his old number back???
Anyway, back to the almost drowning.
Hunter knows somethings up. 😬
I actually really love the use of Hunter's senses this episode.
I thought they were gonna find an alternate route, not have Wrecker and Hunter also go down the waterfall. 😭
WITH EXPLOSIVES MIND YOU!
Awww. Tech talking about his emotions!
I love that he's explaining to her that he processes emotions differently. It's not that he doesn't care, it's just that he works through them in a different way.
Crosshair mention as well! 😭
That fact that Tech says he has to respect both of their decisions!
Tech may not agree with Crosshair's choice to stay with the Empire, but he understands that it's his brother's decision. It reminds me of "Understanding you does mean that I agree with you".
Tech cares about both of his brothers and yes, he misses them, but he manages his feelings in his own way. 🥲
I'm worried about the Tech hate that's probably gonna come outta this episode though. Some people already don't enjoy his bluntness and I worry they're gonna come after him for being a "dick".
He just processes emotions differently!!! He's not a bad person!!!
Aw, no Tech and Omega hug. ☹️
Way to ruin the moment, Wrecker. 🤣
Green cloudy sky is giving Mando S3 promo. 💚
Ooooo, more drama with Cid.
Hopefully they'll finally pull themselves together and acknowledge the fact that she's basically just screwing them over.
Sexy Hunter's-hair-in-the-wind shot.
AHHHHH WE GOTTA WAIT NOW 😭
First time we've had a two parter this season where we've actually had to wait for part 2.
Overall, I really liked this episode! I know there's going to be people jumping on it saying "it's just filler" and "it isn't progressing the plot". Emotional development is development! Let them all talk about their feelings!!!
They're clearly all struggling a bit with Echo leaving. Everyone is tense and bickering with each other, and while I know the guys are talking about how they need to accept it and move on, they're clearly all thrown off by the whole situation. I'm also happy that they're addressing the fact that Echo not being there requires them to rethink how they split up the squad. Three adults and a kid is a hard group to divide up.
Omega constantly trying to call Echo for help breaks my heart. She misses him, we miss him, his brothers miss him. There's gonna be a lot of missing him until he comes back. ☹️ I do wonder how often they actually keep in touch with him, though. Is Omega chatting to him when she can normally, or is it just because they're stuck and need his help this time?
I'm also really glad to see more Tech development! Yeah, he screwed up with Omega earlier on in the episode, but he worked through it. He's not really used to this type of thing but he's trying. And he acknowledges that they're a family. 😭
Also, I didn't mention this in the bullet points because I only just remembered this but Omega using Tech's words at the end! About how they can find a solution like they always do!!! I love seeing the little bits of influence that all of the guys have on her.
But, yeah! Long thoughts post today. Didn't expect to say quite this much but I'm missing Echo and I'm a stickler for emotional moments so I really enjoyed this episode.
Now we just have to wait a week! 😭

So, no one asked me anything and I don't think anyone even cares, but... ...I'll summarize what I like to do in the FF VII fandom. I love everything about Vincent Valentine. He is my absolute favorite character, as well as my favorite victim to include in any context and in any pairing. I personally have a fondness for Yuffentine, even though it's an unpopular opinion. I like writing about them because I find them funny together, I've never gone beyond the comedy genre and I've never made them go to bed together. Although under certain conditions I would like to try. My head canon is that Vincent is a gentleman and would never take advantage of a little girl! But he would be able to calmly wait years for the right moment. Yuffie a little less; and I like to imagine her trying to jump on poor Vincent in every way imaginable. Without success, obviously. xD This is if we're talking about post-DoC, because before that our beloved gunslinger is decidedly emotionally unavailable. I also really like Vincent x Tifa as a pairing, even if I haven't written about it personally yet. I think that placed side by side they would be the sexiest and most passionate couple around. But I also really like them as simple friends. In my opinion they have a lot in common, especially regarding devotion and way of loving. Lucrecia should be the obvious choice, but I've written very little about her and Vincent at the moment. A few hints, more than anything. I think this is because I already know how it will end, since I like to stay in canon as much as possible, and this makes me suffer. But who knows, I can never know how, where and how much my inspiration will strike me. Maybe some story set in an alternate universe, or some "what if?"... I haven't tried yet! However, if we talk about the male counterpart, I would say that my favorite couple is Vincent/Cid. First of all, I really like pairing our beloved gunslinger with characters who are decidedly more exuberant and lively than him. I think they manage to bring out the best in him, as well as his more comedic side. And, as already mentioned, I love the comedy genre. And Cid lends himself very well to the task! At the moment I haven't written much about them yet, a little something I'll share soon, but I intend to fix that as soon as possible and write more. I feel inspired! I don't know why though, I can't see Cloud as a potential partner for Vincent. The feeling they convey to me together is too father/son-like or in any case Vincent always seems too much of a reference figure for him. But of course we are talking about my sensitivity. Since I like to experiment I could always give it a try to see if I can overturn this feeling of mine. I have the same problem with Sephiroth and Vincent, although I've found myself writing about them lately and I'm trying to make it as ambiguous as possible. Let's see what comes of it! xD Of course there are plenty of other pairings, but I'd say I've babbled enough about my tastes for now. Anyone who has read this far should know that he is a hero. <3
EDIT: I forgot to say that I like the bottom Cid! xP

Woodentop - 16th August 1983.
(Taffy: "Welcome to Sun Hill Looney Bin.")
Woodentop/The Bill started off as the 4th episode in the Storyboard series. It was turned into a series that began airing just over a year later on the 16th October 1984.
The first words were spoken by Jim Carver after his (second) alarm sounded to wake him for his first day as a probationer at Sun Hill. "OK Carver, let's do it." He presents as keen and enthusiastic although obviously naive. He's promising however and came top of the class on his "Human Awareness Training" course at Hendon.
Sgt Jack Wilding (Peter Dean), Inspector Sam Deeping (Jon Croft), PC's Green, Rawlings, Wallace, Reid and Morton and 2 unamed uniform officers played by Chris Jenkinson and Richard Huw do not go onto make it into the series, however Jim, Dave Litten, June Ackland, Taffy and Roy Galloway do. Taffy has a surname change later however to Edwards as he is Dai 'Taffy' Morgan here.
"Galloping" Galloway is played by Robert Pugh, he's later recast as John Salthouse, the [original!] short ginger Jack Russell we all know and love. "Doesn't that man ever go home?" "We're in it, Jack. This is it."
PC Hollis is mentioned and his call sign is given as 375. The S for 'Sierra-Oscar' is missing from their epaulettes and only an O is present. Taffy is 101, June is 643, Jim is 600 and Dave is 201. June is the only female officer seen. Dave shows an interest in her but she isn't interested and literally rolls her eyes at his attempt to eye her up in the briefing. It appears they have had an on again/off again thing that; when off; makes the others rather uncomfortable.
Jim declares allegiance to uniform from the off, "I'm a firm believer in traditional policing methods." He explains that he wants to be on the pre-side of policing rather than the post-side (aka: when the problem has already happened). Deeping warns him he felt the same when he first joined and says he might change his mind a few months in.
Taffy asks about Dave's 'exam results' and then says he has 6 more weeks to go to his own; laughing that Wilding is making Litten sweat. June later explains that Dave has just finished a 2-week attachment to CID and "now CID are his Gods, especially DI Galloway." Dave has been waiting 2 months to see if he's passed an exam to allow him to join CID properly.
June is tasked with puppy walking "Jim-Jim". She reflects on how stupid it is to still have the W in front of her job title (WPC/WDC/WDS etc), pointing out that it doesn't matter if they're male or female - they're still police constables.
Jim is confused when she asks a paperboy his name. June explains that a paperboy would know who is away as he wouldn't have to deliver to them for a specified amount of time. She suggests CID might have overlooked it when investigating a spate of robberies. Jim is amazed and she assures him he'll soon learn and pick up little tricks like that. Soon after they are asked to check in on an elderly lady who hasn't been seen in weeks. Sadly the lady has passed in the bath and the obvious has started to happen to her body. Both are horrified though Jim tries to protect June from seeing it. "Poor old Jim Jim, first time out. First day even!"
During a pep talk, Jack Wilding reminds June to never get emotionally involved with anyone in the job - if only she'd listened…! (cough Dave, Gordon, Jim, Tony, Gabriel and Roger). "You're too classy for the likes of Dave Litten! If I were 10 years younger!"
Dave takes Jim 'walkies' for the afternoon, Dave loves showing off to the newbie and claims he'll soon be out of uniform and with CID.
In the briefing, Jim and the others were told to get to know the youths who are upsetting locals by hanging around in groups. He was encouraged to keep a professional distance as an officer, to earn respect and to remain firm but fair. During their walkabout, Jim dishes out a slap round the back of the head to a youth who tries to escape him and Dave. Dave immediately pulls him aside and tells him that he shouldn't have done that and they're pulled in to see Wilding. Wilding warns Jim that he could be suspended on his first day if the boy's family takes it further and sends him and Dave home early.
Wilding has to ask Galloway to help him as the lad Jim assaulted is Galloway's big robbery suspect's son. After butting heads, Roy reluctantly agrees and takes Jack to see his suspect, making it clear that Jack owes him one and that he's only doing it for Dave who he sees real CID potential in.
Jack buys the drinks and explains to Mr Taylor about his new PC collaring his son and friend for 'scrumping. Taylor jumps to the conclusion that Jim would have wanted to get his first arrest under his belt and claims he should have just given him a thick ear and sent him home like the good old days. Jack explains that that is exactly what Jim did, making Taylor laugh. "There's hope for your lot yet."
Jim lives to see another day and we end back in bed with Jim (ooh er!) setting his alarm for the morning.

OK, there's a lot to unpack...
My scalding hot takes (SPOILERY):
-The first scene seems to take place in a whole different timeline, and if that's the case, I feel seen.
-Everybody knows who Sephiroth is, Squeenix, you can show him for more than a split second.
-That voice though. Hnnnnggg! Damn fine work there, Tyler.
-Early speculation: speaking of THAT VOICE, I speculate that it's Ore!Sephiroth speaking when he describes Jenova's capabilities and Jenova!Sephiroth speaking when he says "you know I killed her, so who is she?" Jenova!Sephiroth and Ore!Sephiroth being two different people/alien predators seems to be taking shape.
-This is reinforced by the bit of lore (at least according to The Kids Are All Right) about Jenova that states one of her strategies is to convince people that those closest to them are trying to harm or kill them and causing them to turn on each other and take each other out so her job will be easier. "So who is she? Is it really Jenova? Is it something Hojo cooked up in his lab to infiltrate your group and kill you? Really, Cloud, who is this woman that I'm pretty sure Sephi-- er, I mean I killed way back when?"
Update: OK, so this got Jossed when Audrey on Twitter mentioned that in Japanese, he uses Ore when he says "you know I killed her." But that just raises more questions that I talk about in another post.
-I mean really. The voiceover is straight up saying that she can appear as the people we hate, fear or love during the nanosecond of closeup Sephiroth footage we get in the trailer, and Sephiroth is the one saying it. You've seen trailers for media before. It's practically SOP to present dialogue out of order to misdirect the audience or make the clip sexier, so I doubt if the lines about Jenova's abilities were immediately followed by an attempt to cast doubt on Tifa's identity or motives. They're practically leading us by the tits to this conclusion.
-No Vincent? Seriously? No Cid? Seriously? But we get Yuffie immediately? If Genesis shows up anywhere I swear I'll punch a baby.
-So the Scooby Gang thinks Sephiroth survived the Nibelheim incident. Or are they assuming? Is this another bit of misdirection to set up a reveal to replace the one that got blown away (see the next point)? Only The Dev Team knows...
-And I guess the The Shocking Reveal this time around isn't going to be that Cloud wasn't the SOLDIER 1st Class that accompanied Sephiroth to Nibelheim because Tifa done blabbed and, you know, Crisis Core.
-And holy shit, did I see Sephiroth grabbing Masamune's blade with his hand when Tifa attacked him? That's metal as fuck.
-ETA: I didn't notice this until someone pointed it out. This guy?
Is Cloud (which you guys probably already knew, but it takes me a few tries). Fucking REUNION CLOUD. Obviously in a different timeline, but still. This is heartbreaking. Somebody get the TVA in here to prune this branch! Unless this is another classic trailer misdirect and it turns out to be a scene from a bad dream he's having or something ridiculous like that.
-And if this is REUNION CLOUD, does that mean there's a...REUNION ZACK??? Oh, Sylvie, what have you done?!?
#FFVII Rebirth#new trailer dropped u guise#Sephiroth#seriously no disrespect intended toward George Newbern#but Tyler Hoechlin could make reading a process spec sound sexy if he did it in character as Sephiroth#obligatory MCU reference

My Overall Thoughts on Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
Okay. This is gonna be a longy, so obviously: The READ MORE is to separate the wall of paragraphs coming, and most importantly... SPOILER TERRITORY!
If you want a spoiler-free tl;dr, I liked it a lot. It has its problems, but it ultimately served the purpose of what I wanted it to be: An extension of my love to the original game with the realization and acceptance that the original can't be replaced.
Alright, SPOILERS! AFTER THIS THERE BE SPOILERS!

--
Okay. Welcome to spoiler town.
-
Character-wise: I don't think there was a single miss in the roster. Every single character was banger. I loved them all. Barret, Tifa, Aerith, and Nanaki are already my Top 4, and continue to be so. I think this pushed Yuffie to 5 with Cloud being 6.
I get the frustration about Vincent and Cid not being playable, but considering Vincent only really does interesting things in late-game and we're not going to Rocket Town, it worked for me. Plus, Vincent and Cid did PLENTY.
I've always liked Rufus and the Turks. This definitely amplified that. Probably my biggest excitement of part 3 will be Heimdegger, Scarlet, Corneo, Palmer, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, HOJO all get to bite the bullet. I hate them all so much.
And Sephiroth... God, fuck you, man.
-
Music: Big surprise. Music is outstanding. I'm going to need to make like... a YouTube playlist of all the songs that I liked, cause this game has a fucking OCEAN of music that I can't keep track of. Best of note were definitely the variety of Tifa themes, the different takes on JENOVA, that Stamp theme, and probably a stand out: That take on Sephiroth's latin chant that made it sound like a fucking Bloodborne theme. That was awesome.
-
Gameplay: Oh my fucking god, this game has so much. Like, almost too much. It's overwhelming how much this game has, and I'd complain if it weren't for the fact that it's manageable if you do it in a healthy manner. Which hardly anyone is going to do.
While there were too many mini-games, I liked about 90%. I'm in love with Queen's Blood. Chocobo Racing was great. Fuck that cactaur mini-game.
Combat still feels banger. Every character plays awesome, except Cait. Like, I've never been anti-playing Cait in OG FF7, but man, he is hard to work with in this one. My best was always Tifa and Barret.
-
Story: I 100% see where everyone is mad about (and I'm talking more the middle of the story, not the ending... We'll get to the ending later), but nothing really bothered me. I saw outcries of Barret's conclusion making things worse for him, which honestly... Yeah. That fucking sucks for him, which is why it makes him so badass to continue to stand up.
I know people are mad about the whole 'Glenn' thing. I... have no idea why. He's such a nothing burger. He just seems like Sephiroth's only way of talking to Rufus, which... good. That's interesting. I'm sure we're supposed to get a 'Glenn is Cloud's father' bit, but... I don't care. That seems like whatever.
Having experienced the story now, not stopping at Wutai or Rocket Town actually makes sense with how the story is going. We'll definitely see.
-
That Ending: I'll be honest... The way Aerith's death was handled frustrated me. Cause at first, it was hitting me HARD. I was in TEARS as the scene played out, and then Jenova came out. And I was crying as I was beating her ass.
And then Sephiroth came out. And then not-Safer Sephiroth came out. And then Sephiroth came out again and STOP MILKING SEPHIROTH! OH MY GOD! I GET IT! SORS IMMANIS! ET INANIS! By the time the two hour event of Sephiroth wave dashing on me went by, I was completely over the death. And then they don't even do the water burial? Just to add to the fact that Cloud can't fully comprehend that she's dead?
And as frustrated as I am with all that... I'm fine. Like, honestly: I'll live. Was it how I wanted the scene to go? No. But you know what: I can experience FF7's amazing scenes whenever I want. I got the fucking game on Switch. I got on PS Library. I can wait til it's $5 on sale for my Steamdeck. I can beat that shit in a week or less.
FF7 will always be there for me, and it is always a part of me. And I've accepted that this series isn't 'a remake of Final Fantasy 7'. It was a re-exploration of it that knows that I know what I know. So... I can live with that.
The world and timeline thing still confuses me a bit, but at the end of the day, it just feels like build up for when Aerith uses the lifestream to save everyone. Cause you know she'll be there with Zack.
-
Other Stuff: -I don't know if I'll Platinum this. My thoughts right now are to close the game and play some XIV. I might pick it up and continue, piece by piece. Don't know yet.
-I can't wait to see how Cid and Vincent are going to play in the next game. I was theorizing that Vincent was going to get a DLC chapter. I don't think that's happening now.
Um... Matthew Mercer's voice is so fucking hot. Huh? What? You didn't hear that. Mako poisoning.
-Golden Saucer was both hype and a disappointment. Cause I feel like losing the roller coaster was a loss. BUT THAT HAUNTED HOTEL! ME AMOR! I loved that place! Oh my fucking god! I want to LIVE THERE! And the front desk attendee? Boyfriend-tier. Marriage material. We'll be married in October 2025. See you then.
-Otherwise... If you have a question or something, feel free to DM me on Twitter or here. Whatever.

my thoughts on the bad batch after finishing it all (so far, seasons 1 and 2.) this isn't really exhaustive, just some overall thoughts on the series. overall, i liked it :)
the good:
- tarkin :) he's such a fitting character to pair with the batch and i kinda wish he was in more of it, but i'm obviously biased!
- animation. i love the blocky, shapely art style of the clone wars, and how it was replicated here. they have a much higher budget, expectations, and quality technology now, so it arguably looks even better/smoother.
- the political intrigue was on-par with many of the darker plotlines of the clone wars, which i typically really like. it's deep and philosophical without being too lofty or pretentious. i love the commentary on eugenics and genetic mutations in general and how they were incorporated in the plot, especially during season 1.
- the relationships amongst the bad batch (including omega) are all really good and fun. definitely pulls at the old heart strings to watch these soldiers tackle child-rearing.
- i liked basically every new character (with phee, hemlock, and omega being highlights) introduced in the series, despite my gripes with cid being an antisemitic caricature, which bothers me immensely as a jew myself.
(i will be getting into spoilers under the cut while talking about my problems with the series, so BE WARNED.)
the bad:
- i feel like season two did not feel as connective as season one, plotwise. it didn't feel like it was leading to some grand finale or greater thing, which is kinda the point with the batch wanting to settle on pabu, but it started to feel anticlimactic towards the mid-way point. it picked back up the pace during the last two episodes, at least.
- i absolutely detest that cid betrayed the batch. sure, it makes 'sense' enough given the way they set it up and sprinkled in hints of her being worse than she lets on, but it felt like such a cop-out, (and an antisemitic one at that, which i'll get to in the 'dirty' section,) especially after she literally said she's changed for the better as a person since when she was allies with grini 🙃. she will hopefully try to help the batch in season 3 but i hated that the writers did her wrong like that. i don't care that they made her seem guilty; it still wasn't enough for me. maybe don't make all your aliens racist, xenophobic, and antisemitic caricatures and i'll like the way you write them more.
the dirty:
- the whitewashing of the bad batch + omega. stop it. making the genetically 'superior' clones much paler than the rest is literally white supremacy.
- the whitewashing of caleb dume, aka kanan jarrus, which i don't hear as many people calling out, likely simply because they don't know that caleb and kanan are the same person. it would cost zero dollars and effort to unwhitewash these characters. do it, now.
- cid being an antisemitic caricature of a powerful, untrustworthy, criminal, money-hungry, penny-pinching lizard. what the fuck!
- this is definitely a lighter note, but is still very ageist and. hm.. kinda ableist in my opinion. the way they aged up tarkin to an extreme degree in this series to make it make 'more sense' for him to look 'so old' in anh.
peter cushing looked 'like that' because he was very sickly in real life at the time of anh, and tarkin, in theory, had nothing like that in his canon life, so why not try to justify it by saying that tarkin just aged really quickly between the end of clone wars and a new hope? but like. no. literally no. stop. there is enough canon evidence of tarkin having a chronic illness to justify him suddenly looking much older in anh. you didn't have to do him dirty like this.
i hate how they only die on the hill of making tarkin look and sound exactly like peter when it's unnecessary to do so (like in rogue one, and i liked cgi tarkin! it was just so unnecessary.) this is animation, so they could've easily made him look like peter when peter was 40-something instead of super aged up, but no. and i really liked how he looked in the clone wars! we could've had it all.

the bad batch season 2
really liked season one, trough probably too much because i headcanon Omega as trans.
Omega is badass now? cool.
Cid is damn manipulative... by having a valid point.
the call for adventure of the season: help people. they are good people, helping when the opportunity arises, seems like they'll be making the step to looking for places to help.
i just realized something i really like in this over clone wars: people can't die. don't get me wrong, it was neat, but it also meant you wouldn't get to know the cast. in this the cast is an actual cast.
oh, that's one fucking cliffhanger, strong opening.
stop being stupid, you can't run on a broken leg... i mean you can, but you shouldn't.
they were hunted by Wilco... the name sound familiar, but my memory for names is ass. also he's dead now, so not that it really matters. i literally caught it on his death grunt.
i do like the message, but i wonder where they'll be going with it.
Crosshair episode? also cody again, probably about to die too.
there's always something neat about a sniper just sniping overly well.
maybe not, maybe cody is able to leave and live. more likely not. the only reasonable way to achieve that is by linking up with Rex or task force 99. and i don't recall him being with Rex in rebels.
well damn, he went awol. hope we'll see him again.
i love a good race, especially layed out well, and it was. good episode
ok i'll admit it my gay hart is losing it over phee, worried she'll turn out to be the villain, or at least not trustworthy.
pre jedi stuff. how will not force users make it trough here. also they're going big with the music.
i was sure it would be a kibar cristal (lightsabre core). oh, it's big.
so i really did recognise him... HOW?!
the message of the show seems to me "people need their people". now this isn't a bad message, but is easily malformed.
ah, so wookies are argonians.
"don't stand where i'm flamethrowing"
i really like where she moved. how she seems to have grown... it's probably going to get her killed isn't it? ep 7 btw.
i love the leitmotifs.
damnit two parter? i need to prepare, not need to watch part two... oh well.
Echo's role is always the most questionable to me, but here they really found a role for him.
fuck he's such a politician. (yes that is obviously an insult)
feels fitting for Echo, the old squad reuniting... yet also we know this isn't where he ends up. after all i watched rebels.
hello purple hair, should i know you already?
and it's given proper weight, nice.
tech is autistic isn't he? because my god can he be almost stereotypically oblivious. damn growth for tech. also yea you'll always lose against water.
oh, this really just is the neurodivergent episode... and i think it's handled pretty well. episode 9. Techs and Omega's conversation around 22 minutes is very good.
nope purple hair is not someone we know, and definitely doesn't have cool feather hair.
ugly and disabled means evil... not a fan.
the workers suffer while and to increase the profit of the company? what a new story, good thing such things never happen in the real world /s. if only the solutions were ever more realistic. revealing the truth never changed anything. but obviously disney doesn't want to tell that.
a broken space dropping out of hyperdrive?
oh shit, they're continuing with what i thought was a dropped plotpoint. but why though? what do they plan to do with this plot now?
Rex? doesn't look like him, but certain talks like him. and i don't just mean same voice. i mean how and what he says. ep 12
oh, is this the deserting episode? they have been building it up.
in case it wasn't obvious enough the empire was evil and a bunch of dicks.
welcome to cold, the cruellest, slowest killer. the cruellest part may be the hope. there's nothing you'll survive better then cold, because while it kills you it also preserves you. you can hope to make it, until the moment you die. and the people who find your body will feel that same hope until your corpse is warmed up. it's a blessing too, for you'll survive it more often then drowning, but the hope is cruel.
damn that ending though.
are they planning to split to group up further? i mean probably the right decision, but not healthy for the series i think. they are making this play too idyllic, like 80% sure it'll either be destroyed or secretly evil. the only reason i'd say maybe not is because they seemed to have put too much afford into the assets to throw it all away. of all the enemies to throw at the it, this is one of the most mundane and with that cool. especially in it's accuracy.
also did they hint at this ship before? i didn't notice it but i'm notoriously bind to this type of ship. or did they introduce it in this episode.
that ship sure looks like the ghost.
"i suggest i you proceed before i come to my senses"
two things i still really like: Wrecker is allowed to be afraid of heights and it's not a flaw. a hinderance and a weakness, sure. but everyone has those. it's not something that's wrong with him that must be changed. Omega is trusted with important tasks and is competent. she's not just a tag along kid, she's an actual member of the team with useful skills like any of them.
there's going to be more then one team working here, that'll be a problem. called it, and called it... fuck. this season won't end in a successful rescue. they better be getting a season 3.
on no. i see the solution, Tech does too. please don't. yet you must. fuck. come on, it's too early in the episode for a mayor character death. right? unless the rest of the episode it to come to terms with the loss. i'm wrong... right? i mean... the start of the episode did set it up, but, like.. no?
this feels like an episode where they all die... but that can't be. they have an unresolved plot. whatsit fuck face needs omege, she needs to be captured and then rescued. that's how those plots go. everyone can't die, not yet at least, the plot demands it... right?
ok... they "salvaged" him. that has to mean he's alive... right? fuck i already know a friend of mine would call out my hopium.
another female clone? the fuck? also how can you be here? do what you do? that just doesn't make sense? trying to improve the system from the inside? that won't work with the empire, and if you were a mole you'd be a shit one. they're really hoping they'll get another season.
