What if Sakumo had lived and how much did Kakashi's life change after Minato became Hokage?
[Part 5]
"Did you want to see me, Hokage-sama?" - Kakashi silently entered the office and quietly closed the door behind him.
Minato looked away from the documents and looked at the teenager.
"Yes, thank you for coming so quickly", - Minato put the folders aside and motioned for Kakashi to come closer. - "I need to discuss something with you."
Kakashi nodded and involuntarily straightened his back.
"I want to give Obito the rank of jonin", - said Minato.
"He will be overjoyed", - Hatake grinned, imagining his friend’s face.
"Obito has been working hard lately. I think he fully deserves it", -Minato bound his fingers and put his chin on them. - "There is something else."
Kakashi silently waited for the continuation. He noticed traces of fatigue on the Fourth Hokage's face. The work was not kind to him at all.
"I want Obito to lead a new team of three", - Minato broke the silence. - "And I also want you to join the ANBU and become the captain of my personal guard."
Fourteen year old teenager froze in one place, stunned.
"New team?" - the teenager frowned in confusion.
"The three of you have done well on missions under your leadership, Kakashi. But if Obito plans to become Hokage in the future, he needs to gain experience in leadership."
"Do you want me to join ANBU?"
Minato sighed heavily and closed his eyes for a few seconds.
"I understand that I've been putting too much on you all this time. I left you as captain in my place. You couldn't help but feel the weight of responsibility. But now I ask you for more. Many in the village believe that I am unworthy of the title of Hokage. With you as my right hand, I would feel much more stable. I need you in ANBU, Kakashi."
Kakashi covered the distance and stopped in front of the guy. Minato looked up at him with tired eyes. Kakashi tried to give his face a determined and at the same time calming expression.
"I will always be on your side, sensei", - the teenager got down on one knee. - "And I am honored to be your right hand."
"Thank you, Kakashi", - Minato exhaled with noticeable relief and smiled. - "Now, won’t you run after Obito?"
After Kakashi found Obito and brought him to the Hokage's office, dusk began to fall on the village. The teenager headed towards the house. All the way he thought about Minato's words.
"I’m home", - he said automatically, closing the front door behind him.
The delicious smell of food reminded him that in today's chaos he had missed lunch. Sakumo's cooking skills improved a lot after he took several lessons from Duy. But despite his hunger, Kakashi barely touched his dinner.
"You’re too thoughtful today", - the teenager heard his father’s voice. - "Something happened?"
"Minato sensei is disbanding our team", - no matter how hard Kakashi tried, he could not hide the bitterness in his voice. - "He wants Obito to become captain of another team, and for me to join ANBU."
"ANBU?" - Sakumo put down his chopsticks and bound his fingers. - "Minato wants you by his side."
Kakashi nodded.
"What's bothering you?"
"I…" - the teenager sighed heavily. - "I don’t want our team to disband."
Kakashi looked away. Sakumo pursed his lips.
"We worked well together", - the teenager continued. - "And I’m used to always being with them. I'm used to the fact that I'm nearby and can always protect them. And now I will work alone, while they will be in a team with people they don’t know. I… worry about them."
"It’s completely normal to worry about your friends, Kakashi," - Sakumo said slowly. - "You worry about them and want to protect them. But, unfortunately, you won't be able to always be there for them."
"I know", - Kakashi answered barely audibly. - "I’m just afraid that something might happen to them when I’m not around."
"I'm sure Obito and Rin can take care of themselves. They may be just as confused as you right now. You need to talk to them and give them confidence. You're a great friend, Kakashi."
Kakashi winced and looked up at his father.
"Do you have friends, father?"
"Don’t worry about me, Pup", - Sakumo smiled at his son. - "I have one and it’s quite enough. Finish your dinner before it gets cold."
Kakashi nodded and picked up his chopsticks.
"Thank you, father."
The next morning, Kakashi stood in Minato's office in full ANBU uniform.
"Kakashi, please take off your mask", - Minato asked. - "I have great news. You are the first person to know about this."
Kakashi nodded seriously.
"Kushina is pregnant," - Minato said quickly and smiled widely.
"Congratulations!" - Kakashi felt himself smiling back.
"Thank you", - the guy sincerely thanked. - "I have a first mission for you. I want you to guard Kushina throughout her pregnancy."
Kakashi froze in shock. Of all the people in the village, Minato decided to give this mission to him - to protect the life and health of Kushina and the unborn child. Emotions quickly changed on Kakashi's face. He still hasn’t answered anything, trying to put the information in his head.
"Kakashi", - Minato’s soft voice brought him out of his thoughts. - "There is no person in this village whom I trust more than you."
The teenager held his breath and bowed deeply.
"I won't let you down, nii-san!"
"I believe you," - Minato smiled at the usual address; it seems that Kakashi didn’t even notice how he called him big brother. - "Do you know when your uncle is coming back?"
"No", - the teenager shook his head. - "I can send Pakkun to him."
"I will be very grateful to you. I want to tell Jiraiya sensei this news as soon as possible. I don't have much to do today and I'm already heading home, so you can start your mission tomorrow. In the meantime, rest."
Kakashi nodded goodbye and left the Hokage's office. He headed to the nearest training ground and called Pakkun. Having conveyed the message to Ninken, Kakashi looked after him thoughtfully.
"Rival!" - he heard a loud voice behind him.
A few seconds later, Guy materialized opposite him.
"You look somehow different", - Guy carefully examined the teenager from head to toe.
"Minato sensei appointed me to ANBU", - Kakashi nervously moved his shoulder, he was still not used to his new form.
"Cool!" - Guy threw one fist up. - "You never cease to amaze me, Rival!"
Kakashi felt his cheeks turn slightly pink at the seemingly simple compliment.
"Will you sit down?" - Kakashi patted the ground next to him, Guy immediately sat down. - "I have great news."
"Anything even cooler than your promotion?" - the teenager was sincerely surprised.
Kakashi nodded.
"Kushina-san is pregnant."
Guy opened his eyes in surprise.
"Congratulations, Kakashi!" - he exclaimed loudly and hugged a teenager in his arms.
"Are you congratulating me? Why?" - Kakashi said barely audibly, trying to get out of the suffocating embrace.
"What do you mean why?" - Guy pushed the gasping teenager away from him and looked carefully into his eyes. - "Your little sister will be born soon! Or little brother!"
"Little brother?" - Kakashi asked in bewilderment in a hoarse voice.
"Or little sister", - Guy added in a serious tone, and then smiled brightly. - "You will become an older brother!"
Kakashi blinked in shock.
"I…"
"I can already imagine you with a little baby in your arms", - Guy sighed dreamily, still not letting go of the teenager’s shoulders.
Kakashi remained silent, ignoring Guy's passionate monologue. Too many events happened in these two days.
***
Kakashi walked quickly towards the Hatake family residence. Minato returned home a little earlier and let him go, knowing that today all the teenagers were going to celebrate Obito's birthday.
"Kakashi!" - a loud voice came from behind the teenager.
Kakashi skidded to a halt and looked around.
"Do you have a minute?"
"You know that we are a little late for your birthday, right?" - Hatake asked, raising one eyebrow up questioningly.
Obito ruffled his hair in embarrassment and laughed awkwardly.
"Something happened?" - Kakashi immediately tensed.
"No!" - Obito shook his head negatively and put his hands in front of him. - "I just... wanted to talk to you."
"Okay", - Kakashi narrowed his eyes skeptically. - "About what?"
"Well, you know", - Obito’s eyes nervously darted around. - "You are now in ANBU, I was given a different team, and Rin decided to stay to work at the hospital. I... now I will spend less and less time in the village. Although I would like to stay here longer..."
Kakashi sighed tiredly.
"Get to the point."
Obito flinched when he heard Kakashi's sharp, commanding voice.
"I know that Rin is in love with you", - he said suddenly. - "And I know that you like her too. Now you will spend more and more time together while I am somewhere far away on missions..."
As Obito continued to speak, Kakashi noticed a flash of green color out of the corner of his eye. Hatake swore quietly and frowned.
"Obito, stop, shut up", - he interrupted his friend’s monologue. - "I don't like Rin. And she's not in love with me."
Obito froze, stunned.
"Just ask her out, idiot!" - Kakashi finally said before disappearing into thin air, leaving his discouraged friend alone.
Kakashi landed silently on a tree branch. As he had expected, Guy was training at his favorite training ground. He practiced his blows with a completely unreadable expression on his face. Sighing heavily, Kakashi jumped to the ground.
"Yo."
Guy flinched and put too much force into the blow, breaking the wooden post. Kakashi swallowed. Guy stood still for a moment, then turned to him, a broad smile shining on his face.
"Rival! Have you come to challenge me?" - the teenager exclaimed too loudly. - "What is it this time? Rock climbing? Arm wrestling? Or maybe…"
"You heard everything", - Kakashi interrupted him.
Guy's smile faltered.
"Yes", - the teenager lowered his eyes to the ground and shrugged his shoulders embarrassedly. - "Sorry, I didn’t mean to eavesdrop, I was just passing by."
Kakashi took a step forward when Guy immediately took a step back.
"In any case, even though I had no right to overhear a conversation about your personal life, this is still great news!"
Kakashi frowned. He tried to catch Guy's eye, but he stubbornly did not look at him.
"You... both of you deserve to be happy. I..." - Guy paused, and then added in a muffled voice. - "Happy for you."
"It’s not like that," - Kakashi said quickly. - "I don't like Rin."
He immediately felt a prick of shame. This is the second time this evening he has uttered these words. He really liked Rin, but never in a romantic way. He always treated her like a sister.
"And Rin was never really in love with me", - he continued. - "In fact, she has been liking Obito for some time, and this idiot can not understand it. They are even worse than Asuma and Kurenai. Those two don’t announce their relationship, but at least they confess to each other, and these two will be beating around the bush until the end of time."
Guy remained silent, which made Kakashi very nervous.
"So, you don't like Rin?"
"No", - Kakashi shook his head to be convincing. - "Actually, I..."
"There you are!" - they heard an exclamation and turned towards the voice. - "Everyone was already tired of waiting for you and sent me on a search."
Genma leaned his shoulder against the tree and cast a lazy glance at them.
"How long will you stand here? We’re late for the party."
Guy shrugged and stretched his lips into a smile.
"It's not good to keep friends waiting."
Kakashi was still trying to catch his eye, but the teenager had already walked towards Genma. Hatake sighed heavily and followed him. Guy noticeably took the lead, while Kakashi and Genma walked leisurely behind.
"Interrupted some important conversation?" - asked Genma, the senbon clutched in his teeth flashed brightly in the moonlight.
Kakashi chuckled.
"Don't pretend like you didn't hear anything."
Genma smirked at the edge of his lips. They continued walking in silence until they reached the cafe. The loud voices of their friends could be heard from the establishment.
"If you break his heart, I’ll break your face", - Genma drawled slowly, making Kakashi freeze at the entrance.
"You know that this will never happen", - Kakashi gave him a serious look.
Genma shrugged. There was a barely hidden worry in his dark eyes.
"I know, but I still have to warn you. I am his best friend. And I will protect him from everyone. Even from you."
Kakashi nodded silently and entered the cafe, still feeling Shiranui's gaze on his back.

I need way more aus where Dan stays alive and Tsunade stays in Konoha and they raise Shizune together after her parents die.
Tsunade staying in Konoha always haunts me because there are so SO many situations that could have been different.
Wouldn't Tsunade insist on taking care of Kushina giving birth? What would have happened then? At the very least, she'd win some time for Minato.
Would she step in to defend Sakumo? I'm not so sure about this one, but if not Tsunade, maybe it'd be Dan. He was extra gentle and cared so much about the wellbeing of Konoha and he wanted to be Hokage, so why not?
I want to see more of kid Kakashi interacting with the sannins. More of the Senju-Uzumaki alliance. What if Tsunade had become the 4th Hokage and not Minato? If Dan was the director of Konoha's Hospital? How would she deal with Danzo and the Council? What about the Uchiha massacre?
Sooooooo many changes. I wouldn't change her alcoholism tho. She's such a great character, so flawed and vulnerable and full of rage and fire and just so human. Tsunade is for me the best written woman in Naruto.
I want to read more fanfics where she lives with Dan! Please! No the Tsukuyomi type of universe! Something painfully real and cruel but still hers!

Guardian (Part 4)
Jiraiya x Sarutobi!Reader
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 Part 9 Part 10 Part 11 Part 12
Synopsis: Your brother gave you an assignment, "Go ask Sakumo Hatake if he needs help with his newborn." It was a simple task, but it snowballed into so much more.
Naruto Masterlist: Here
A knock sounded out through the man's apartment. He looked up from his scroll, ears straining to check if it was his imagination. His eyebrows furrowed as the knock sounded out again. No one ever came to visit him; this must be urgent. The knocks slowly turned desperate, and he moved swiftly towards the front door. Not bothering to look, he flung the door open as the visitor's fist came down. It almost slammed into his chest, but he quickly caught her wrist. He chuckled down at her wide eyes before letting her go finally.
"What can I do for you, Y/n?"
Your e/c eyes were wide as he dropped your hand, his cold skin causing goosebumps to erupt along your arms. "Long time no see… How have you been?" Your breathing was shallow as you took him in. He was dressed down for the evening, only making you painfully aware that you had come so late in the afternoon. "I've been better. You?" Your attention sharpened at his answer before nodding at them as if silently telling him you were in the same boat. Silence fell between you, making you grow nervous under his sharp gaze. This was a bad idea. "Is there something you need?"
A nervous giggle fell from your lips before you could stop it. His eyebrow shot up at that, and he bit down a smirk threatening to appear on his normally stoic face. His golden eyes practically begged you to answer him, as if he was dying to know why you decided to show up on his doorstep after years of no contact. Your eyes dropped to your feet as embarrassment crawled up your neck.
He couldn't help but cock his head down at your shy demeanor. How long has it been since the two of you last kissed? He couldn't remember, but being this close to you made it painfully evident that it was too long. That he had gone for far too long without you beside him. His hand caressed your cheek, and your head snapped back up to meet his gaze.
"Do you think you can train me?"
With how fast you caved under his gaze, it was as if he had put a spell on you. You then realized, as he inched closer to you, that you were no longer 18, and this was no longer acceptable. Letting out a sheepish laugh, you backed out of his embrace. "I'm asking only as a friend. I apologize if you thought this was anything more than that, Orochimaru."
The pale man shot a tight-lipped smile down at you but backed up anyway, hoping to play off his failed attempt at seduction as if he was just testing you. "Just wanted to make sure. Training, you say? How long have you been out of the Ninja world anyway?" The question was double-sided as it would have answered his other question - when was the last time you two kissed?
"Oh… Let's see. I stopped a couple of years before Sakumo… eight, maybe?"
Eight years. How did he manage to survive that long without you anyway? Orochimaru nodded as he leaned against the doorway, "And you want me to train you? Aren't you with Jiraiya-"
"We are living together, yes, but that's it. He's also way too busy to be training me again…."
You trailed off, but he remained silent, watching you as if trying to predict your next move. You sighed in exasperation, quickly remembering why you distanced yourself from him in the first place. "Listen, if you don't want to, that's fine. I can just ask an academy teacher-"
"Nonsense. I'll do it. Meet me at the training grounds after you drop off Kakashi for school tomorrow. We will start with the basics; I want to see how much you still remember."
His heart lurched as you broke into a beaming smile, "Oh, thank you, thank you, Orochimaru!!!" You exclaimed before flinging yourself onto him. He grunted as you hugged him tightly, but before he could return it, you had already separated. He tried to hide the blush forming on his cheeks, but thankfully, you were heading back toward your apartment without giving him any more attention.
"I'll see you tomorrow!"
Orochimaru let out a breath of relief as you disappeared from his line of sight. Training you was going to be complicated. But keeping his cool was going to be much harder.

What did Kakashi think of Ibiki while he was a mortal in GOS? Did he ever visit his temples? Did he find him cute?
Personally, I imagine that part of the school's curriculum in the village, was to help its students find their own patron god. Maybe there were a bunch of field trips when they were young, dedicated to visiting every gods' temples of worship, and find at least one that was suited for each student. So he must have went to Ibiki's temple at least once.
I can't see Kakashi personally praying to/ worshipping any god (considering who/ what he is). Though I'm sure he respected most of them (Kakazu not included. He gave his worshippers some serious side eye I'm sure.). But deep down, a subconscious part of him knew what he was, and knew it was a bad idea to pray to any other god, even if he wasn't sure why.
Still, I could see him being a big fan of Iruka's and Ibiki's temples. Iruka because he loved the trans rep and was one of the main examples his parents used when they helped him explore his own gender.
But Ibiki... I wonder if he stared up at the stone interpretaions of his lover, and if this was the only god he seriously considered sending a prayer to, and becoming a worshipper. A part of him yearning to try and contact the god, finding him VERY attractive and also jiving with Ibiki's philosophy... and maybe a part of him just wanted to talk to him (again) but just... freezing up in fear before he could ever voice anythin... as if knowing it was a bad idea...
Because if Ibiki ever heard his prayer, he might recognised him. If he found Kakashi as a human, I wonder if he wouldn't hesitate to strike him down. Not out of maliciousness, he loves Kakashi, I'm sure he loved learning he was so adored and had such a happy life... but the fate of the world is at stake and his sense of justice wouldn't allow him to put Kakashi's happiness over the world.
(Though with Sakumo always staying so close to Kakashi and fighting for his right to live, I wonder if ANY god could have gotten close enough to hurt him. Even Obito had to trick his father to get close enough to act.)
Still...the idea of Kakashi having a crush on Ibiki's statue is very cute to me. Gai teasing his friend/ boyfriend about it, before Kakashi turns it around and teases Gai about his own crush on the God of Storms and how he said he wanted to marry the god the first time they entered his temple as kids.
Ok the image of Gai entering a temple dedicated to the god of storms and proudly declaring to everyone that he’s going to marry him is adorable
And it’s not like he’s wrong XD he will in fact end up marrying the god of storms
As for which god i think Kakashi would look up to/follow, i genuinly think it would be Sakumo who maybe doesn’t have a big temple to visit but they get to learn about him and his dedication to his children
Sakumo reminds Kakashi of his parents. The love they read about him having for his children, and how fiercly protective of them he is, would resonate with Kakashi.
There’s a part of society that sort of expects him to worship the god of storms since his parents believe he was a gift to them from that very god, but Kakashi always just kinda stares up at that temple (there’s no actual statues for Kakashi because the village is respectful of him and doesn’t depict him because he doesn’t like it) and feels like something is missing
Like the temple is empty. Missing the same magic and strength that exudes off of all of the other temples.
As for Ibiki, i can see Kakashi having a crush on the god but it’s mostly based off of his stories. Beauty/attractiveness means little to him, but the stories are beautiful. He also reads so many stories about the gods (he’s not sure why but he loves them) that he’s often correcting his teacher about small points on them because he finds it disrespectful to get that information wrong.
Like the teacher states once that Ibiki’s flower, the purple lotus, was created by Ibiki and Kakashi immediately raises his hand and explains the story if the creation of the purple lotus. Specifically that it was a gift from the god of storms to his lover.
Kakashi also knows all of the stories about Sakumo, Ibiki, and the great hero Gai, better than everyone else
They’re his favorite stories

Reasons why Obito "snapped" and didn't return to Konoha but rather worked towards achieving the Infinite Tsukuyomi And why he's a much deeper character than just "he did it for a girl lol";
1. Team Minato were just kids fighting in a war.
Kakashi, Obito and Rin were 12-year olds fighting against adult Jonin level shinobi during the Third War. They were only kids and even the enemies mocked them for being nothing more than cannon fodder.
2. Rin was kidnapped for intel
You may say anything goes in a war but Rin was a medical ninja of Team Minato. Their enemies didn't hesitate before using a Genjutsu on her and possibly planning torture to get anything out of her. She was just a kid.
3. Kakashi's fear of being ostracized like his father
Once Obito heard the story of Sakumo, he finally understood what Kakashi went through and where his fear of abandoning the mission to save a comrade came from. Lives meant nothing for the village high-ups, what mattered was that the mission was completed. To the point Konoha drove one of their strongest shinobi to suicide, calling it a mistake. Obito saw Kakashi wasn't a jerk, after his father's suicide Kakashi purposefully distanced himself and fought his own feelings.
4. There were high expectations of Obito from his clanmates.
The Uchiha were known for their Sharingan and Obito was constantly pressured to not only awaken his Sharingan quickly. He also had to perfect Katon Jutsu of a higher tier to earn the approval of the clan's head.
5. Minato came to their rescue too late.
Although Kakashi was appointed as the team captain during the Kannabi Bridge mission, they all still relied on Minato to come to help them. Kakashi, Rin and Obito were up against too many enemies to deal with. Minato was someone Obito looked up to, so when he didn't come to them on time, Obito was hurt, disappointed or even felt betrayed. He wanted to believe that Minato, as someone who wanted to become the Hokage, would look after his students, comrades and value their life.
6. They never went to retrieve Obito's body.
Obito spent a good half a year in the cave recovering and during this time not once did he get any info that someone from Konoha was searching for him. Sure, Zetsu might keep it a secret, but not getting any news like that hurt.
7. Madara told Obito he was naive.
This one is self-explanatory. But if Obito had any doubts by the time he met Madara, they were certainly fueled further. Obito wanted to stay optimistic but every day he was losing the reasons to hope. Agreeing with Madara later made sense.
8. Rin was kidnapped by Kiri.
Once again, the least dangerous of the Team Minato, the person who trained to heal her teammates, was taken to be used as a ticking bomb. The Sanbi was put inside of her just to sacrifice her later. No one had any regard for human life.
9. Kakashi was the one to go rescue Rin.
I'm not calling him incapable by any means. But once again, we have Kakashi, who isn't even 15 yet, leading a team and eventually going in solo to rescue his teammate. They weren't up against normal Jonin-ranked shinobi but Kiri ANBU.
10. Kiri ANBU fought two kids just trying to get home.
ANBU are professionals, trained to be killing machines. Rin and Kakashi were alone, just trying to get back to Konoha. They didn't infiltrate Kiri to steal anything. They didn't kill anyone on their way out.
It was the culmination of all of those events, that seeing Rin die was the last thing that completely crushed Obito's hope. The entire time he saw all these faults and tried to keep being positive but he had to realise it wouldn't change naturally. He had to change it by force.
It's partially the fault of the anime for focusing on Rin too much. If you compare how many times Obito thinks back to Rin in the manga, it's significantly less.
And to top it all off, let me remind you something Obito said himself but everyone just loves to overlook to keep their stupid narrative of "You let Rin die" being Obito's sole reason to do the things he did.
I'm sick and tired of people claiming Obito started a war and ruined lives because the girl he loved died. If you still think I'm wrong, then just go. Don't even bother responding. I love Obito BECAUSE he's such a deep character. He's the best villain in Naruto for me. Period.
#Obito uchiha#obito#naruto#there u fucking go#i had to post it here too#boo hoo dont come at me if u hate obito#yes it's The Thread Where Karolina Loses Her Shit Because Of Obito Haters

Kakashi's reaction when his kids asks him how their grandfather Sakumo died? Like they hear so many stories from him from their dad and how he was a great person and they visit his grave alot (I think if kakashi got married and settles down with y/n sakumos grave would be in their backyard somwhere.) and maybe one day he's shaving or something, and his daughter comes up to him and asks, "Daddy, how did grandfather die?"
OH MY GOSHHHH I think about these kind of scenarios all the time like Kakashi randomly shaving and his kids popping up out of nowhere to ask him shit and ahhh this is sad aw.
Anyway, I'm kind of iffy about moving graves lol but yeah I totally see something like that happening, more likely that Kakashi and his wife setting up a shrine or memorial place for Sakumo in their house as is common in a lot of East Asian cultures. I actually like the idea of his s/o being the one that takes a lot of pride in Sakumo and the one that makes sure the kids pay their respects to their grandfather etc and Kakashi's the one they go to with all the questions? It's just that Kakashi is a lowkey and modest man and I can't see him being like 'oh yeah my dad was so awesome etc' but he would be so touched to see his wife encouraging their children to remember his father and to make sure they're thinking of him fondly.
But as for his kids asking him about Sakumo's death... Ughhh my heart. It's not that the question hurts him or is difficult emotionally... He's not ashamed of his dad, after all, it's just... it's hard to explain suicide to children, and whilst I don't see him necessarily wanting to lie to them, he definitely doesn't want them to think about something so heavy and place that burden on them, if that makes sense? But at the same time, he wants them to know, you know? Not all the gnarly details, but Sakumo's death carried a lot of weight and also made Kakashi a part of who he is and also, he's proud of his dad and wants his kids to be too.
In terms of what he'd say, I think it'd be similar to that filler episode of Kakashi taking team 7 to Sakumo's grave and explaining who he was? (Do you remember that? Did I make that up? I think it happened during one of the infinite tsukuyomi fillers, maybe Tsunade's?). He'd frame it like a story. Like ughhh my brain isn't working right now but it'd be very simple: 'Once, your grandfather had a mission. He had to make a very difficult choice. He saved the lives of his comrades over his mission. Some people back home couldn't understand him, and made life very difficult for him, and then, your grandpa suffered a lot, and in the end, he passed away.'
He might tell them it was a suicide, but I don't think he necessarily needs to - but he'd end with telling them how proud he is of Sakumo, and how they should be too. And that somewhere, somehow, he still loves them, and is watching over them.

My personal breakdown/opinions bc I love talking about them:
Naruto: some daddy issues, sure, but he doesn't make it his personality (his trauma is more orphan based)
Sasuke: definitely daddy issues, he wanted to be a good son so bad. Sasuke would be a prime candidate.....if not for the fact that they are MASSIVELY overshadowed by his huuuuuuuuuuge brother issues
Gaara: yep. Daddy issues right there. Source of all his trauma/problems/pain. I'm honestly surprised he never tried to kill him. Or maybe he did, and I forgot. (But also kinda mom issues...?)
Neji: sad daddy issues, resulting in a years long hatred for the main family and a bunch of rigid worldviews.
Shikamaru: alright, someone's gotta be breaking down for ME why he's even on this list. Doesn't belong here, at all. (...after real long thinking, maybe some daddy issues, but not towards his own dad. He and Asuma had this kinda thing going on. Still.)
Kakashi: sad daddy issues, again, mixed with other things. For some years kid Kakashi held a grudge, disappointment, feeling of betrayal and being abandoned judging from how he turned his back on Sakumo's decision to favour comrades over mission. Not even mentioning the years after Kakashi turned his thinking around again and probably felt guilt for that. There's a lot to unpack here.
Hinata: oh yeah, that's some daddy issues right there. Tried so long, so hard to live up to his expectations, was practically disowned and abandoned by her dad in her youth.
Asuma: we didn't see much, but fuck yeah! This man has MAJOR daddy issues, I bet on it. He left his home to get away.

now if only kakashi would stop being a wuss and step within 10 feet of the young blonde
"you're being stupid." why does this conversation seem so familiar? it's like she's had it with someone else before. "you're never gonna get the chance to know the boy like minato and kushina wanted you to if you don't man up." she's definitely had a conversation like this in the past. "am i gonna have to force you into meeting him?" "no!"
sakiko is beyond furious when she learns that naruto - minato and kushina's son - is being kept at the orphanage, which she learns from mikoto who is distraught that she isn't being allowed to take in her best friend's child
sakiko couldn't care less about the village — they drove her best friend to suicide and demeaned her pseudo-son — so she has no problems marching up to the hokage and demanding an answer
"my hands are tied." "bullshit," she spits, barely keeping herself from shaking with rage. "you're the fucking hokage. the goddamn leader of this village, your word is final. and you say your hands are tied? the only reason your hands are tied is because you're letting them be tied. grow a fucking spine sarutobi hiruzen. an innocent child's life is at stake here."
naruto still ends up in the orphanage much to her irritation
don't even get her started on people not being allowed to adopt him
so, with all of her intellect and wisdom, sakiko begins plotting
in the meantime, she'll calm down by babysitting for everyone else
she becomes everyone's grandmother
"shino, sweetheart, i know you and your clan like bugs but putting them in our mouths is a no-no."
"fugaku, why is your son so moody? he's not even two."
"yoshino, i'm sorry to say this, but your son is going to be just as lazy as your husband. you'll need gentle coercion to get him to move. skikaku is a grown man that should know better so yelling at him is fine."
"tsume, until your son's teething phase is over, he's officially my least favorite of the bunch. he won't stop biting me with his sharp little teeth! i don't know why i'm surprised. hana wasn't much better either."
"hinata and neji are a delight and you've made a grave mistake making me their babysitter because i'm just going to spoil them."
"your son is very adorable but please don't leave without giving me a nutritional plan for him. i know your diets are different and i want to make sure he stays healthy under my care."
"inoichi, there is no doubt to your daughter's cuteness, but should she be so well-versed in emotional manipulation at such a young age? i swear she can cry on demand!"
she still watches after kakashi - bullying him into having lunch and/or dinner with her often with the help of his friends
"dinner or lunch at least twice a week when you have no missions or i'm asking gai to be your reminder and drag you here."
"come on, don't just stand in the kitchen like a ghost. i'll make some tea and grab the blankets." "..thank you." "you're always welcomed here." sakumo did the same thing after difficult missions as well, she muses as she watches kakashi head for the living room. stubborn hatake's, she shakes her head.
i just remembered that itachi and shisui still exist
she can be their grandmother too
"don't tell your mother i gave you dango before dinner, okay? she'll be very cross with me."
"you're always welcomed to come over for lunch or dinner! you don't need to ask, shisui, i'd be happy to have you over. now help me load the groceries will you?"
time skip like five years and sakiko finally meets naruto
she starts subtly, using her friendships with other civilians to learn about him even if its all complaints and badmouthing
then she purposely-accidentally runs into naruto
she fusses over him since he fell and hands him some candy-fruit-food-something-idk as an apology
obviously naruto gets curious about the nice woman, though slightly wary too
things progress from there - very slowly but still
naruto would keep an eye out for her whenever he’s running around, stopping to watch her for a moment
sakiko would plan more ways to “bump” him
naruto would approach her on his own like several months later when he sees her sitting at the park
they eat lunch together several times at the park
sakiko asks for his help with carrying her groceries when she feels there’s enough trust between them
she offhandedly says he’s welcome to come by
it takes some time before he does
he meets others during visits and in the park when sakiko takes care of them
everyone is friends - sasuke and naruto still have their little fights but that’s just because they’re best friends
time skip again and we hit the uchiha massacre (because I like the angst it gives)
sakiko is quick to make sure she’s the one that’s put in charge of taking care of sasuke - indirectly telling the hokage where he can stuff any complaints because she won’t budge on this one
even if she isn't given custody, she invites sasuke to stay with her and always visits him to make sure he's eating healthy
sakiko loves the children entrusted in her care and she always endeavors to treat them as if they were her own and with respect, but she can't help but wonder, "why are they always traumatized or troubled in some way? what happened to getting to experience a happy childhood?"
this is story that takes place in the timeframe of konoha's rookie nine's birth to their academy graduation
its supposed to be a family oriented story
with some angst (obviously because everyone has issues)
mostly centered around naruto and sasuke, with kakashi popping up and the other rookies making appearances often
"this is kakashi," she waves a hand in his direction and he freezes as the bluest pair of eyes zeroes in on him. he just wants a nap in a familiar place after a long mission, is that too much to ask for? "he's my son, the very first kid put in my care. though, i suppose you can make a case saying his father was the first kid put in my care." he can't help the quiet snort that escapes him, always amused when she complains about his father as if the man was a toddler she had to look after once upon a time. "hi," the little blonde mumbles almost shyly, a small grin on his whiskered face. he doesn't need to look to know sakiko is both smiling smugly and glaring at him to not mess up. "hello, it's nice to meet you," he relaxes and smiles, holding back a sigh. "wonderful, you now know each other! dinner will be ready in half an hour!" and just like that he's abandoned to deal with his dead sensei's son. wonderful.
"can you make ramen?" she blinks. "..i can certainly try. want to help?"
"i understand that you like tomatoes, but you should really try some other things." "hn." "well too bad because i'm the one in charge of your bentos, breakfast, lunch, and dinner." "..hn." "that's what i thought."
this could encompass the everything up towards the fourth war but then the story would be too long and take away from the main reason/plot

I did some googling and it turns out someone can get pregnant from two different guys at the same time. They're always twins, from what I've read, and it's called heteropaternal superfecundation. I'm sharing this because I had the thought of Kakashi Accidentally getting pregnant from Gai & Baki. Not sure if it would actually happen tho.
The chances are pretty slimb but at the same time i would enjoy the absolute horror baki faces when he finds oit cuz not only did Kalashi continue the 'annoying silver haired ass hole' blood line, but he personally had a hand in it and there isn't a single Suna Shinobi alive who is EVER going to let him live that down XD
Meanwhile Gai's excited as f*** to be a dad XD
Of course they learn this three months after the kids are born because as soon as Sakumo found out his stupid son was pregnent all travel was banned for the time being

A Hero’s Name
Alright, so, I needed a boost of positivity the other day, so I went scrolling through the tags on my Named After a Hero series’ reblogs. A certain set of tags hit me with the urge to just start writing. The following is curtesy of @scavengerkakashi ‘s tags about trans!Sakura, the whole thing is under the read more.
So here’s a different take on how Haruno Sakumo came to be.
Haruno Sakura was born a girl. Her parents raised her as one. Everyone called her as such.
But Haruno Sakura just didn't feel like a girl. He felt like a boy. People dismissed it as simply ‘she's a tomboy, she'll grow out of it for sure’, but that wasn't true. Sakura was ten years old when he first spoke of the subject to his parents. “Mom, Dad,” He began, after finishing his dinner one night. It had taken him months of fretting to get to this point and he was more than nervous. “I… um… I don't think I'm a girl.” His parents looked at each other in confusion. “What do you mean, honey?” His dad asked, placing a comforting hand on Sakura’s shoulder. Sakura’s hands wrung together. “I… I'm not a girl.” He looked at the table. “I'm not like Ino, or Ami, or any other girl at the Academy. I don't like flowers or dolls or talkin’ about boys. I don't wanna marry a boy!” “Well, what do you like?” His mom asked, sitting down beside him. Sakura looked at her. “I like playing with the boys and learning about shinobi.” He took in a deep breath. “I'm a boy. I… I just, there was this book in the library a-and it… it helped me figure all this out. It said that sometimes a boy is born in a girl's body or a girl is born in a boy's body and it's okay! The more I read about it, the more I felt like it was written about me!” He looked up at his rather confused parents. “I'm a boy born in a girl's body! A-And I wanna be myself. I'm a boy!” His dad nodded. “Well, I don't quite get it, but I love you. And if you want to be a boy, then I'll support you.” His mom nodded as well. “I agree with your father. We'll talk to your teacher at the Academy and do everything necessary for you.” His mom bent down and kissed his forehead. “We love you, son.” Sakura felt tears well up in his eyes. His parents may not understand just what he was dealing with inside, but they loved him and supported him. It made him happier than he could ever believe.
Mebuki and Kizashi Haruno didn't quite understand what their son meant, but that didn't mean they would stop loving him. They brought their son to the library and had read the book he had mentioned last night. It was filled with technical terminology and had very few pictures. But now they knew a little more about what their son was going through. Their son was transgender. The book had a section about families abandoning or outright abusing their transgendered children, and Mebuki and Kizashi were horrified. They couldn't comprehend why a parent would reject their child for just being a little different. What was wrong with the fact that sometimes people don't align with their birth-assigned gender? The two adults shared a look and an understanding passed over them. They'd support their son through everything. They'll ask him if he wanted to change his name and they'd do their best to change it for him. They'll head down to the hospital and ask about hormones, and when their son would be able to take them. And when he was ready, they'll see to it that he gets everything he possibly needs to go through with the change. No matter what, they'll support their son.
Sakura stared blankly down at the book in his hands. His parents had asked if he wanted to change his name to something more masculine before they headed home. And to be honest, he never even thought about it. What would it be like, to have everyone calling him by a name he could really call his own? A smile broke out on his face. Yeah, he thought, I want to. His eyes focused back onto the book. It was a dusty old thing that looked like it hadn't been read since it was placed on the shelf. The title was faded but he could just barely make out the words Third Great Ninja War. He coughed as he opened the book, dust flying out and enveloping him. The text on the pages was small and what few pictures were grainy and unfocused. Sakura hummed to himself and flipped through it idly as he thought about names. He rather liked the name Sousuke, but that was too much like Sasuke. He liked the name Akarui as well. But it was so different from Sakura. How long would it take him to respond to being called by a new name? He was so used to being called Sakura. Suddenly, a name seemed to leap from the page he flipped to. Hatake Sakumo. Konoha’s White Fang. Sakura flicked to the first page of the section and began to read about the White Fang.
Hatake Sakumo is credited with being the one to near single handedly start the Third Great Ninja War. On a mission to retrieve a scroll from an undercover Iwa caravan, Sakumo made a decision that resulted in the failure of his mission. The Iwa shinobi guarding the caravan attacked and injured two of his teammates. Instead of continuing the mission to retrieve the scroll and eliminate the enemy, Sakumo decided to save his two teammates’ lives, thus letting the caravan escape into Iwa territory. Upon his return to the village, war was declared. Everyone shunned him, including the teammates whose lives he saved as well as his own child. After months of harassment and slander, Hatake Sakumo committed seppuku, ending his life. The first person to stumble upon his corpse was his five year old son. His son then alerted-
Sakura stopped reading there, gently closing the book and replacing it onto the shelf. He looked down at the floor, eyes unfocused. Hatake Sakumo, to him, had been a hero. In all the books he read, heroes were the people who risked everything to save lives. And Hatake Sakumo risked his own village to save his teammates. Sakura raised a hand and wiped away a tear that was threatening to fall. Hatake Sakumo was someone Sakura aspired to be. One day, he'd be as big a hero as the White Fang. He'll take the name Sakumo upon himself. He'll take it and make sure that one day, people will look upon it without scorn. They'll see the name Sakumo and they'll think of heroes.
The newly renamed Sakumo rushed home. He burst through the door and shouted, “Mom! Dad! I've found a name for myself!” He ran into the sitting room, where his parents were drinking tea. His mom smiled. “That's great honey! What did you decide on?” Sakumo took in a breath and confidently stated, “Sakumo. Haruno Sakumo.” His dad gasped softly and shot his mom a look before raising to his feet. He placed a hand on Sakumo's shoulder. “Son… you do know… Err... “ His dad floundered, looking at his mom. “Where did you find that name?” His mom asked as his father sat him on the couch. Sakumo relaxed into the soft cushions and smiled. “I was reading about the Third Ninja War and there was a small bit on Hatake Sakumo, the White Fang. I...” Sakumo leaned forward. “I believe he's a true hero y’know. He risked everything to save his team! And everyone… everyone hated him for it. It's not fair! He was a hero! I wanna be just like him when I'm older!” His dad sat down beside him. “Sakura… Sakumo.” His dad bit his lip. “Sakumo, that name you chose, it will remind everyone about the war. You don't know what it was like out there. The Third War lasted twice as long as both the First and Second combined. It was a horrible time to grow up.” Sakumo nodded solemnly. His dad continued, “Your mother and I both know the horrors of war. We fought countless battles alongside our peers. We watched as our friends died.” Sakumo looked at the ground. “Hatake Sakumo's mission was heralded as the catalyst for the war. War was declared mere minutes after he returned. That name reminds me, reminds your mother, reminds everyone of lost family and friends and of war.” “I know…” Sakumo mumbled. His dad squeezed his shoulder comfortingly. “But…” Sakumo raised his head and looked at his dad. “If that's the name you want, I'm fine with it. One day that name won't remind me of war. One day it will just be my son's name. I don't know when that will be, but I know that I love you too much to care.” Sakumo’s eyes began to water as his mom sat next to him and gave him a hug. “Sakumo,” His mom started, wiping his growing tears. “we love you son. We want what's best for you. The village might not like you for your name, but you know what? I would trade the entire village if it meant you were happy. If being named Sakumo makes you happy, then we'll make it happen. If someone makes fun of you for it, we'll be there. We love you son. Whether you’re Sakura or Sakumo, we love you.” Sakumo felt a sob leave him as he hugged his mom tight. “Thank you thank you thank you!”
Umino Iruka looked at the family before him. The Harunos. Their child was in his class, one of his top students. Haruno Sakura. “Umino-sensei,” Kizashi started. “we're here to discuss our child with you.” Iruka looked at Sakura and smiled. “Sakura-chan-” Iruka immediately noticed the pink haired child flinch at that. “-is an excellent student.” Kizashi coughed. “Yes, well, we're here to ask you something.” Iruka nodded. “Well, Sakura isn't Sakura.” Iruka blinked, confused. “I'm… sorry?” Mebuki sighed and shot her husband an exasperated glare. “What my husband is trying to say is, Sakura has changed his name.” Iruka cocked his head to the side. “His?” He watched the child in question redden and attempt to sink into the chair. Mebuki nodded. “Yes, have you heard of the term transgender?” Iruka’s mouth fell open in an ‘o’ shape. “Oh! Why yes, I completely understand.” Iruka smiled as the family collectively sighed in relief. Kizashi grinned. “Great! Well, as my wife said, Sakura has changed his name. We were wondering if you could change his name on the school roster?” Iruka nodded. “Yes, I can do that right now.” He got out a thin sheet of paper and smiled down at the child. “What's your name?” “S-Sakumo.” He whispered, blush deepening. Iruka’s jaw dropped again. “O-Oh, um, y-you do know…?” Sakumo nodded seriously. “Yeah! The White Fang was a hero! I won’t ever think otherwise, shannaro!” Iruka stared at the boy for a few seconds before smiling. “Alright. Haruno Sakumo.” He wrote the name with a flourish. “There, all finished. Is that all…?” The Harunos nodded and Iruka waved as they left.
He stood once they were completely gone and lifted the roster sheet. Sakumo's name proudly stood out from where it was written. Iruka gently ran a finger over the name and felt a soft smile cross his face. He was glad Sakumo had such supportive parents. He was glad that Sakumo realized who he was so soon and that his family supported him. Iruka himself knew how frustrating everything could be when you grow up with the wrong body. He knew intimately how horrible puberty was when you're trans. He'd suffered through periods and bloating and sore breasts until he was seventeen. Iruka had been seventeen when he accepted that, inside, he simply wasn't a girl. He'd thought for years that something was wrong with him. At seventeen he accepted himself for who he was. He wasn't a teenaged girl on the cusp of womanhood. He was a teenaged boy on the cusp of manhood. It had taken him a year to save up the money for hormone therapy. And at age twenty he completely changed his sex. He underwent surgery and came out feeling right. He felt natural. Most of his friends and colleagues accept him for who he is. Sometimes there were people who refused to call him by his preferred name of Iruka and others who simply referred to him as it. Iruka hated it and hated the fact that it took him so long to discover who he was. Perhaps if his parents had been around for longer they would have supported him like Sakumo's did. He was glad Sakumo had parents who supported him so much.
Iruka understood just what Sakumo was going through. He knew the pain of misgendering and being called by the wrong name. And he would do everything to make sure that every instance of the name Haruno Sakura became Haruno Sakumo. He would do his best to make sure the boy wasn't bullied and that everyone called him by his right pronouns. Iruka would do for the boy what his parents couldn't. He would make sure that Sakumo wasn't mistreated for his life-changing choices while in the Academy.

Do you think Mortal Dai and Sakumo may have had some interesting conversations before Dai passed in GOS?
Like I can almost imagine in the first life time, while Sakumo is around, overseeing the tribe's"advancement" and turning into a proper village, and watching Kakashi play with Gai, Dai looks over too and can see the concern etched into the god's face and is like "I'm sorry in advance for the pain we cause."
And Sakuno is like "What? You didn't well- couldn't hurt us. Why would you say that?"
And Dai just looks at him with such sincerity and says "Because we're mortal. They haven't realized it yet but.. I know you have already lost someone. And I'm sorry we'll leave you and your son in turn."
Just such an interesting and respectful, yet kind dynamic the two could have shared as two concerned fathers, who knew and could forsee certain events while their kids played on oblivious to how short their time together was. But Dai thinking the relationships are worth forstering, and Sakumo dealing with the grief of losing the love of his life and having to carry that pain...but in that grief he had also gained two sons, he didn't want Kakashi to deal that same pain he had to go through but knows that in the end, its inevitable.
Then over a 1000 years later, he sees the ecentric King Dai, and his youthful philosophy! And one of the few rulers who took him on as his patron god! I could see Dai being a very involved king, who despite being a royal, prefered to talk with the common people and attend events/ meetings and talk with the village/kingdom directly, instead of rule above them. I could even see when times got tough, him opening the doors of his palace and inviting the masses in and finding as much space for everyone as he could, rather than keep them out and preserve resources for himself. Even if it put him in danger (which I'm sure it must have occasionally.)
I wonder if they ever talked again while Dai was king. I wonder if Dai prayed to him and asked for guidance when he heard about Gai and his "make believe" friend Kakashi. He's like "I know my son is not delusional. I'm not sure who is talking to my son but I only hope their presence is benevolent. Maybe you can pop in and check on it if you're not too busy? I'm sure this "Kakashi" is related to your girl (he didn't know Kakashi was trans yet) in some way."
Though I thinknl it would be really cool, if they gained a REAL friendship after Dai died. And if Sakumo might be the one who visits him the most as a star. Maybe he gets some fatherly advice to help bond with his sons, or they just talk and gossip about the dynamic between their boys and the reincarnation relationship. They probably consider themselves in laws LONG before the marriage in the mortal life time, and Dai may be the ONLY person Sakumo tells when he finds his son is mortal and where he is.
Sakumo going to dai and telling him all about how he found his son, and crying because he really thought he’d lost Kakashi but his son is just out there living his best life with the mortal he has fallen in love with time and time again 😭😭😭
Dai is such a good dad too so he’s happy to offer advice.
Oh, and i can totally see Sakumo appearing to king dai after he hears that prayer and assuring him that ‘Kakashi’ is perfectly safe and will never do anything to harm Gai. Promising that the friend that the prince will not stop talking about is good and kind.
Dai getting to meet the god of the lost in a second lifetime and immediately connecting with him all over again. Perhaps the reason he instals him as one of the main gods of the village is because in his childhood he always felt lost and lost a lot to war or famine and his response to all of those loses is kindness. Protecting his people in any way that he can.
Sakumo appearing as a mortal during a terrible storm caused by Kakashi having a bad argument with Obito and going to sulk in that old mountaintop cave where he spent so much time with Gai in his past life. Helping to hand out bedding and making sure that if someone is sick or in need of attention they get help right away.

I've asked so many things today I hope I'm not bothering you, but one more! (Twas my bday yestersay. Treat myself!)
Do you think Kakashi had supportive, loving family when he was a mortal in GOS? I kept pictuing a couple simular to ones in the Hercules Disney movie. People who tried for a child for years, maybe decades, and were finally blessed with him as their baby.
You mentioned there were plenty of off things about him. Like needing the feel of water on his face or always staying away from the river. Do you think his parents helped support him through all of it. Like maybe when they watered the crops, they always made sure, even in a 30 year drought, to sprinkle some over Kakashi as they worked on the fields. Or he would have intense dreams of thunder, or maybe a terrifying battle where he got so hurt- and when distressed, they would always bundle him up as a child and read him a new book until he calmed down.
Just Kakashi with absolutely, loving, adoring, devoted parents that Sakumo may even come to meet once he finds his son, and seeing their love for him is another reason he is so adamant that Kakashi deserves to live this beautiful life!
Also was Kakashi born cis, or trans? Just love the idea of hin being born how he wanted, but equally love the idea of sassy toddler Kakashi being all "I WANNA BE A BOY!" And the family taking a trip to see the Iruka library/ shrine/ school and saying "see that Kakashi? That god wanted to be a boy too and absolutely was one! So of course you're a boy if that's what you want!"
Just...loving, beautiful, supportive mortal parents who wanted the best for their son, who decided to name him Kakashi because on the night he was conceived, they swear they saw one of the biggest bolts of lightning scorch the farm! It destroyed one of their wheat towers!!! Perhaps he was a gift to them ;w;
(Also known as where Kakashi hit the earth when he "died")
Oh yes! I love the idea of Kakashi having loving, sweet parents who wanted him so badly and feel blessed to have him.
A mother who playfully water’s his head one day when he’s a baby (just a light bit of water) and watches him light up with joy. He smiles so big she can’t help but do it again, and that’s how the tradition ‘water my plants and my son’ began.
A father who is pulled into Kakashi’s bedroom ever night before bed and handed ten diffrent books Kakashi wants to read before he will happily fall asleep.
Adult Kakashi taking care of all the work on the farm because his parents are aging and have done a lot of damage to their bodies over the years.
Parents who watch their son fall in love with that eccentric, happy go lucky boy and start planning the wedding because they know it’s coming.
Sakumo watching as his son cooks dinner for his parents and they exude such love and warmth for the son that he lost. Hearing their whispered thanks to the god for the son they were finally gifted with.
His mortal father teaching him how to climb because he see’s Kakashi wanting to climb as high as he can and he’d rather see him do it safely.
They stand at the front of the wedding when Kakashi and Gai finally marry and gift Kakashi the home they raised him in, although they still have to build their own home. Kakashi and Gai surprise them by building another home on the land, big enough for two and very comfortable, where they can live happily for the rest of their lives.
I’d say Kakashi is still born trans and gets to choose his gender and tell his parents who he is, and he really loves the fables of the god of storms and his transition from female to male.
Kakashi’s parents joking sometimes that Kakashi is the god of storms incarnate, but they never actually mean it. They just find it so fitting that their son would have a birthmark over his left eye, and although they’re sad to find out he’s blind in that eye they’re happy that he is healthy in every other way.
#GOS AU#God of Storms au#Hatake Kakashi#Kakagai#i love these asks#never find them annoying#just sometimes have to wait to answer them chz i’m doing things XD

Angsty GOS thoughts I had.
While Kakashi was mortal, was there no one else who could make it rain? Not even a little? Imagine the devestation the world might be in 32 years (adding conception. So 31 + 9 months),and not one drop of rain around the globe.
Yamato must be struggling to stay alive with no rain for his forests.
Rivers, lakes, ponds must be depleting/ almost dried up everywhere.
Whole continents are threatening to turn to deserts.
The air must be so incredibly dry all the time.
Are the clouds above super condensed and heavy, due to them never raining. Or are they nearly unexistent, drying in the atmosphere beneath the hot sun.
All the while I'm sure gods are trying to find any way they can to moisturize/ wash the earth. And its taking a lot of combined efforts to cover Kakashi's job... but all the while, Sakumo is fighting for his son's mortal happiness, he loves him more than the world. He's doing everything to ensure Kakashi gets to live as long as possible.
Which made me wonder...was it an really a random mugger that cut down Kakashi one day? Or did someone take matters into their own hands...
And then I wondered... what if it was Obito who decided to kill his own brother, in order to save the world.
Obito, a god of Death. He who could get around his father by making him think he would side with him. Obito who knew of Kakashi's bond with Gai and how meaningful this relationship must be to both of them...
But Obito who also knows how responsible Kakashi is. How dutiful. How he cares about others above himself. Who would never forgive himself if Yamato were to perish, who must be feeling all sorts of wrong in a world without his storms.
And so, with a cloak, a dagger and a human disguise, Obito takes matters into his own hands. Causes a scene in a way he KNOWS Kakashi would try and stop...and takes his brother's human life, in order to bring about the rain and save the world.
And he hates himself for doing it. And he's not sure if Kakashi will ever forgive him, he hates the devestation this causes his father, Kakashi's human, elderly parents, and Gai, who through so many life cycles and reincarnations, was someone he considered a friend. Maybe he even did it at a time Kakashi and Gai were discussing expanding their family. And he knew he HAD to stop that, just on the basis of stopping Kakashi from seeing his mortal children eventually grow old and die like his lover... his now husband.
Obito knew he had to do it for the greater good...but it kills him inside, to have done so. And he doesn't know if he'll ever be able to wash his brother's mortal blood off his hands.
He's not sure he wants to be forgiven.
Hey hey HEY THAT HURT!!!! My heart, it is wounded! *lays down to cry*
Ok, so to clarify
Yes by the time Kakashi is 31 in his mortal life, things are really bad. At first the world continued moving. Water evaporated and rained back down. The biggest thing is that Kakashi controlled when it rained, but without him clouds continue to gather until there’s just a huge dump of water, at which point they would have moved on Temari’s wind. Thus they gathered water in one area and dumped somewhere completely different.
This cycle doesn’t continue forever though and without Kakashi there to keep the rain replenished, the available water began to dwindle.
It’s not just Tenzo suffering at this point. Nakano’s river’s are almost empty and if they dry up completly she dies.
The world is suffering major droughts and people are beginning to fight over water. Greed is becoming rampant even before Kakuzu returns, but with Water as such a scarce resource it continues to be rampent.
So i think Obito would take that task on himself.
He would see Kakashi’s precious people, gods and mortals alike, suffering and know that Kakashi would not want this.
He would not want to live to be 100 with Gai at his side if it cost him Tenzo and Nakano.
He would not want people to suffer for what he would preceive as his own greed, which is exactly what he was fighting against when him and Kakuzu killed each other.
And that’s how Obito knows his brother will never blame him.
Kakashi never thinks of himself first. He never hordes greedy thoughts, and is actively the complete opposite of greed. He will give every piece of himself away to ensure other’s are alright and that is why him and Kakuzu clash so bad.
Kakashi represents duty and sacrifice
Kakuzu represents greed
They can never get along.
So as much as Obito knows this will hurt Kakashi, and as angry as he knows Sakumo will be about it, he does this not just for the world but also in a way for Kakashi.
So Kakashi won’t come back to a world without his precious pup in it, or his adorable Kohai.
So Kakashi won’t live the rest of eternity with the guilt that his personal desires were considered over the needs of others.
Obito will wear his brother’s blood on his hands for all of eternity so that Kakashi doesn’t have to wear the blood of countless others
#which is kinda canon compliant#obito is willing to be the villian to save others#including Kakashi#he will be hated he will wear other people’s blood#so that he can create a world whete the people he loved don’t have to suffer#GOS AU#God of Storms au

it was in the middle of my test that i laughed out loud when i suddenly imagined this conversation taking place-
Kakashi: I swear if you recommend me for Hokage again i'm going to tell Shikamaru all the embarassing shit Dad told me about when you were a kid
Shikaku: ..Sakumo-sensei wouldn't have-
Kakashi: Are you sure about that?
Shikaku:
Shikaku knows his sensei to be one of the most gentle, most non-confrontational man who ever once lived but goddamn it he also knows that Kakashi's looks aren't the only thing he inherited from his dad-
Sakumo didn’t actually mean to tell Kakashi embarassing stories. Honestly he didn’t think his son would remember them
That’s his mistake of course. kakashi remembers everything and had all of it tucked away just in case
The unfortunate part is that it’s already known that Kakashi would make the best next Hokage, so he’s getting the job regardless
Shikaku already set him up for disaster and the kids are going to hear all the embarrassing stories because of it XD

KNOCK KNOCK BESTIE I'M HERE TO DELIVER ANGST
So. I was thinking. Sakumo, right? Failed mission, died, yadda yadda. However. What if he didn't die, but let anyone think he did?
Imma explain myself, I promise
I thought of this AU while in the shower, clearly the best place to get awesome ideas. I'm a supporter of the theory that Danzō used ROOT to sabotage Sakumo's mission and then started spreading rumors to turn the village on him, because Sakumo had the possibility to become a major thorn in Danzō's plans so he wanted to get rid of him as soon as possible
(Just like I think he had a hand on spreading hate against the Uchiha, but I digress)
Anyway. So. One day, Kakashi is at the academy and Sakumo is alone at home. He's miserable. He's seen how people treat Kakashi just for being the son of a disgrace like Sakumo, so what if Sakumo just dies? Then, surely, people will go back to treating Kakashi normally. Right? He's debating it, when there's a knock on the door and lo and behold, Danzō is on the other side with a speech at the ready about the way the village is treating Sakumo, faking to be on his side, and bringing a solution
To restore his name, he must die as a hero. Not only that, but he must work hard to help the village from within its shadows, where the village itself cannot judge him anymore
Sakumo is not entirely convinced, but no matter how little he trusts Danzō he has no reason or real proof to not listen to him, and Danzō? Danzō tries to sway him with a little bit of Sharingan
We know from Obito that the Sharingan can mind control people to some extent, in fact he does it with Yagura, the Fourth Mizukage, and while it can be broken (like Ao does when he realizes Yagura is under Sharingan influence), it can only be done if the control is detected
So, with great care of what Danzō says and a tiny bit of Sharingan help (not too much, or Sakumo might notice it), he slowly sways Sakumo towards faking his 'hero death' and joining ROOT afterwards, while Danzō promises full protection towards Kakashi and that nothing bad will ever happen to that boy, Sakumo's most precious person, and that the village will stop treating him wrongly solely for his father's name
Sakumo accepts. Goes on a mission with two ROOT agents who come back alone and tell everyone about how Sakumo fought until the bitter end and died to protect his teammates and to ensure that they'd be able to finish the mission and go back to the village safely, and since dying heroically is a sure way to be forgiven by everyone immediately (not that Sakumo did anything wrong and needed to be 'forgiven', poor man, but in the eyes of the village... Yeah), he immediately becomes a hero and a legend
Meanwhile Sakumo comes back a couple days later in the middle of the night, disguised and hidden in the shadows to not be seen, and joins ROOT to protect the village from its shadows. And Danzō keeps his word, more or less. No one treats Kakashi badly anymore (even though Sakumo has no idea Danzō himself was behind the majority of the rumors when they started, so it was oh so easy to stop them as well) and he does make sure that he's protected... When Sakumo's around. Meaning, when he does stuff like sending Kinoe to try and take the Sharingan he also sends Sakumo away on a mission so he'll never know, things like that to keep up the façade
And instead of the son of the disgraced White Fang, Kakashi grows up as the son of the fallen hero White Fang, fully convinced that his dad died a heroic death. And who knows, Sakumo might be found out later on when Kakashi's an adult
Thoughts on the idea?
I have so many thoughts. This is so cool and interesting!
Sakumo chooses to give up his freedom and 'die' for his village just so Kakashi can have an opportunity to live outside of his shadow. To not be the son of a failure.
Not even thinking about how his 'death' might affect his son because he'll have a better life, right? He'll be alright and everything will go better for him.
Kakashi still going through those major losses but having that sense of team work right away because his father died a hero for saving his team. Always trying to do his best to be the hero his father was and wondering how he keeps going so wrong because his teammates keep dying on him.
And Danzo being Danzo would probably find a way to twist everything that happens to Kakashi into being Hiruzen's fault. Convincing Sakumo that everything that has gone wrong in his life has somehow been Hiruzen's fault. Maybe even using Shisui's eye (after obtaining it of course) to really put those thoughts into Sakumo's head and make him even more loyal
Danzo uses Kakashi to control Sakumo more and more, and hating that Kakashi seems to have gained this independence and fierce will that Sakumo doesn't have. A strong sense of conviction that Danzo can't seem to break no matter how hard he tries.
Sakumo watches from the shadows as his son grows up and struggles, but never gives up. Never allows that darkness to consume him no matter how much life pushes down on him, and wondering if he could have been that strong. If he should have held on and kept fighting.
there's so many emotiosn to explore. Sakumo would have so many regrets about it all, but he can't do anything. He's dead. Long gone.
No one in Konoha would belive him if he came back

i like the idea of each person having different chakra colors, i think? it was kinda in the manga where Minato's rasengan was supposedly yellow? but i'm not sure. Medical jutsu's emmit a green glow, Naruto's chakra is usually blue but if he's in nine-tails mode it's red. Sasuke's theme has always been purple, Hyuuga's i think are either lilac or light green colors, (and i believe if Rin lived on to be Sanbi jinchuriki it would also be violet or red-ish XD), AND OF COURSE- Sakumo and Kakashi's is white!!
I’ve never paid much attention to the colours that the characters have for chakra, though i think Naruto has always had a more orange/yellow look which blends well with Sasuke’s purple/vblue.
Kakashi and Sakumo being white though is so cool, white light specificlly, because it just stands out in the world. Chakra being all diffrent colours is normal, but chakra being devoid of colour? Pure white? That’s out if the ordinary and is bound to draw the eye.
It would have been cool to see the chakra colours surround the characters when the Hyuuga look at them. Like we see Neji seeing Kuremai’s chakra in naruto which is red when he see’s it, so imagine him abd hinata learning to tell people by the colour if their chakra?
‘Oh that’s a Nara’
‘How do you know hinata?’
‘Their chakra is black like shadows’
Or
‘Oh Kakashi sensei is coming’
‘Neji?’
‘His chakra is blinding white. You cannot miss it’
