Good news! You aren't required to make your hobbies and passions "marketable." In fact, your crafts, hobbies, and passions don't even need to be public if you so choose. You don't have to spend all of your energy becoming perfect if you aren't enjoying the process. You are not a product, you are a person, a creative, and your work also does not need to be a product.
#positivity#yet another post that's like... thinnly-veiled as being for myself#i find myself freezing with anxiety when i think about the things i used to do (writing especially) because...#...i had felt this force to make it ~content~ and ~marketable to an audience~ and it was so fucking daunting...#...it felt like being a gladiator in a coliseum#even now i fight the urge to equate being marketable to being acceptable and worthy of admiration and praise#i wish i hadn't burnt myself out of writing by doing this because i'm simultaneously grieving my writing and hating it#and it sucks the life out of what makes you feel like a person and it takes the art out of art#so be free! pist your art or don't! you are beholden to nobody!!!#(obviously this is not the case for professional artists who rely on their art to keep them alive)#(and i criticize heavily the idea that audiences are entitled to an artists labour)#(i understand that this isn't universal and if it doesn't apply to you then you don't have to take me seriously)#(if you are a professional artist or what have you i hope you are able to feed and house yourself off of that career!)#(i hope you are able to live a happy life and be able to keep loving what you're doing)

I know you did chapter one of paradise and it is amazing, absolutely adorable
But i was curious
Is there going to be more?
No pressure or rush but I was wondering because the Ao3 description leaves room for more, but chapter count is 1/1
HELLO i'm still alive i promise omg
and no worries!!! Purgatory Paradise is actually a series rather than a single fic, since i have have a collection of one-shots rattling in my brain that will most likely be written in random order. But right now it only has two-- "Paradise" and "Ice Cream Pizza Rolls Cookie Dough Potato Chips Candy Bars… and Mandarin Oranges"
i really hope to bust out a few more in the future! though right now i'm taking it a bit easy after finishing TNV-- but don't worry, I still have a lot of fluff i want to write for Leo 🩵
#i'm also on a work trip and visiting family so writing opportunities have been scarce lol#also raided a flea market with my sister this weekend before i have to leave for the next part of my work trip LOL#i'm hoping to get my next brain worm out soon#i've also been mulling around some other new fic ideas hehehe >:3c#but yeah just gunna be a little slower now until my next idea has me in an iron grip#TNV asks#but thanks for checking in!!! miss talking to u guys#TNV Final Chapters Spoilers#Purgatory Paradise#TNV Ending Spoilers

caps from comic Im doing
#not art yet. sorta#yeah that's one piece#outing myself this year as a sanji enjoyer#idk what compelled me to come back here (that's a lie I know 100% and it's haterism) but I did finally sit down and put down#this idea I've sat on for a Long time. bc I think I just. finally feel ready for it#or rather. both it and myself have been worn down and moulded enough by just. time passing. to be able to sit with each other in peace#but yeah I'm now neck deep in this (almost halfway thru inking!!) and Im learning a Lot#whatever u say abt one piece oda is a Phenomenal comic artist. one piece art-wise is dense on a level that makes me feel insane#like you barely see more than one type of screentone used and it's mostly to separate planes. its Just Ink. its fucked up#and drawing this comic is forcing me to show up on my a-game on a craft level as well. I love so much a Large part of it so far#comic is good guys. did u guys know that has anyone said this before#but yeah this one will! probably get posted to my main blog when the posting version is done. which is why I said in the prev ask#that the spheres might intersect soon lol#Im aware this is a stupid way to go about it if u look at it from a marketing/advertising angle. but thats not what Im here for#Im showing u cool bugs I made basically. and when the exhibit happens its gonna have mostly nothing to do with this#but yeah. if u see a comic with these caps in it in the future u will Know#otherwise we keep up kayfabe yeah? for fun. for comfort

Y'all, buying a house is stressful.
#it has been a weird and wild four days#in this market you don't get to think about your decisions#gotta do all the thinking ahead of time#saw a house at 11 am today and put in an offer at 7pm#no idea if the seller will take it since I'm competing with at least two other people#but if he does take it it will be an absolutely screaming deal for me#I find out tomorrow if the offer is accepted#and I'm not sleeping and there's a heatwave and I keep on missing meals so my blood sugar is all wacked#I want to own a place again and this process is how I get there but fuuuuck

every time i see someone using that mustache-less emmrich mod i swear i lose ten years off my life.
but that's not what i'm shitposting about, instead: how do we feel about corpse stones and corpse paths.
#ooc .#tbd .#// it goes a good bit further back than victorian death practices but#// the idea of them jives for me for some reason#// (no not the cremation stones i mean the other corpse stones)#// honestly there's a really not great amount of information on nevarra really beyond they're weird#// and i've already talked about like#// how there's a lot of specifically english inspiration there#// (the canal market etc etc)#// so what if-#// i do what i want there#// shakes bioware#// i need more information i'll be damned#// if i won't build an entire culture the way i did with the dwemer do not test me#// i'm already pulling out my books from my classes on medieval england i will do this#// so help me god#// (threat)

The concept of queerbaiting annoys me. I was told that it refers to a work of fiction pretending to cater to a queer audience but then pulling back from it to avoid alienating homophobes, which is an incredibly specific thing. But a lot of people seem to think that it instead means "any time there's any gay subtex, metaphor, or ambiguity" or "whenever something from 1995-2012 was being a normal amount of homophobic for the era."
#I've secondhand seen the way Sherlock...was.#And yeah that's very pointedly cruel to the audience.#But not everything is that aware of its following to point by point mock them for half an hour.#And I think people forget that for a period there was a unique combination of awareness of gay people and homophobia bad#and a severe need to avoid being perceived as gay (and sometimes homophobic) at the same time#while it was ALSO very acceptable to treat the existence of gay people and homophobia or discomfort with both as a joke#so that whole wink wink nudge nudge dance was a huge thing in some of the 90s and earlier 2000s#and sometimes by doing that people accidentally made it seem even more fucking gay.#Or on purpose. People also forget that yeah gay people could exist as a joke but they couldn't be casual protags or w/e.#It wasn't really done like that.#I think what it's really proof of is that the 90s/early 2000s is long enough ago that people have become illiterate to the cultural cues.#When comedians complain 'you cant make jokes anymore' sometimes this is the exact thing they're referring to.#Gay people being on TV or in books isn't some funny joke you make anymore. Just being gay or seen as gay isn't the punchline it used to be.#People are shitty about it still but it's in a different way now. Being gay isn't as much the big embarrassment it used to be.#Gay tv shows and books are a whole market now. And stuff like Sherlock or supernatural were made right in the middle of that shift.#It's the only way you could position a strategy like this. I don't know if that cultural moment really exists anymore.#Audience backlash is also more massive and in real time.#Now instead of mockery at the idea of idk Dr house md being gay conservatives would see it as a 'culture war' thing.#And non conservatives are more vocal and more liable to criticize. TV shows are seen as keepers of culture in ways they weren't before.#I don't know how to describe it exactly. I'm not an expert and I know I'm missing some pieces or things I wanted to point out.#But yeah I just think people kind of. Forgot how people treated gayness as some kind of cootie disease you had to say#You didn't have really hard all the time. People are still sort of like that but idk the language changed.#A lot of talk about homophobia and queerness is very pseudo-academic now. The distancing happens with different signifiers.#But. Yeah.#☠️#I also think queerbaiting requires a specific kind of intent as a marketing strategy.#Instead of the more likely 'well we have an unintended gay following now so I guess we can throw in some fanservice#the network would literally never allow us to do anything with it even if we wanted to though.'

someday if i can figure out how the hell people get these things made i would like to do some little destiny & malice acrylic charms. i think those are so fun. and while i mostly want them for Myself i figure that if i DID figure out the process, i should maybe open up the option to anyone else that might want them, soooo...
informal poll: if i figure out how all that works, would any of y'all be into that, and approximately how many of you?
#day 26#year 5#my ocs#destiny chainsaw#malice winterfang#i know i've said i don't really like the idea of commissions and this isnt like a PROMISE or anything#i still have a lot of research to do before i commit to a shop of any kind#BUT. i think like a redbubble or something in that vein might be a manageable project#i mention stickers specifically because that seems like a very manageable thing to produce and ship even if i didnt go through like#a service to do so#particularly because i dont think id get a TON of orders for my niche OCs lol#but if i got some practice with something small like this it MIIIIGHT help me build up to making things for a larger market like...#say... well you know what i'm about over here lmao#we've basically all but gotten the official blessings of the powers that be to make homestuck merch without fear of reprisal at this point#ANYWAY that would be a ways off and be a much MUCH bigger project both artistically and in terms of like#me learning how Online Commerce works from the seller end.#BUT I HAVE BEEN CONSIDERING IT. and it seems to me that it would at least be relatively simple to sell like. prints of old art maybe#i dunno! like i said i'll see how the poll shakes out while i do a bit more research

playing neopets again. finally used my last pet slot to make a faerie ixi, which was one of my dream pets as a kid 💜 she ended up with a big flower theme
look at my deer
#neopets#faerie#anthro#deer#fanart#nostalgia#art#artists on tumblr#doodles#i struggle with anthro be nice 2 me </3#that is mostly just wearables i already had or things that were affordable#most of the really good wearables you have to pay money for and i do not vibe with that. i do not like the way they handle neocash lmao#but i occasionally get free nc from events or games so i have a few items. the hat is NC i believe#i don't have a lot of Ideas about my pets but i like having a handful of little traits for them#still trying to figure her out#anyway i'm in the market for a Neopets Pin Collector Bag and i'm offering up to 2m pure for one if anyone wants to sell me theirs#normally i avoid expensive wearables but pin collecting and ita bags are LITERALLY My Thing(tm). i Need it

one of the things that i've accomplished due to the low barrier to entry in writing fanfiction is writing novel-length stories as a matter of course. like, i used to think of writing a book as this massive, monumental task - and in some ways, it is! but in other ways, it's still just a story. and it feels much more approachable to me now that i've done it multiple times, posting chapter by chapter because that's something you can do really easily with fanfiction. i didn't go into it believing i could do it - i found out that i could by just giving it a try and seeing what resulted.
there's also a certain wild creativity you can find on ao3, the result of people just doing whatever they feel like doing - sometimes it results in incoherence, sometimes in incomprehensibility, sometimes it falls flat, but there's so much variety in storytelling forms, if you look for it. people will deep-dive into anything. 'marketability' is laughably far from being a concern. what is a story, anyway? people will strip the idea down to its bare bones and rebuild it in infinite ways if they have the space. that space doesn't exist in barnes & noble.
i'm a firm believer that you should read the types of stories you want to write, and that you should also read broadly, because that's how you avoid getting stuck recycling the same handful of ideas over and over. i think the same thing applies to writing. write what you want to write - but also, experiment. try other things, even if they seem silly or impractical or irrelevant, even if you don't think they will work. even if you don't think you can make them work.
if you don't feel like you have creative freedom, then you'll fall back on the tried-and-true. you'll recycle. it won't feel like your voice, because it's been filtered through layers upon layers of 'acceptable' and 'marketable' and 'reasonable' and 'broadly appealing.' the only way to understand your own creative limits is by testing them, constantly. you can't truly believe that you can write whatever you want until you prove it to yourself.
and even if your voice turns out to be acceptable and marketable and reasonable and broadly appealing after all - if you try all sorts of things and find out that's where your creativity flows best - you still know it's yours. you still know you're writing the truest possible expression of your own creative abilities. you owe it to yourself to find out what it feels like to write unfettered.
write something weird.
#this began as me realizing i'm well on my way to having 5 novel-length stories completed#and morphed into something quite different#i don't think a story is ever really complete until it's reached its audience#sometimes that audience is me - sometimes i really am just writing for myself#but usually i'm writing in order to share things#i want to see how other people react to them#i want to know if i'm communicating the vision in my head#and sharing creative work is SO EASY in fannish spaces#is it difficult to get visibility? yes#do lots of people tend to lurk which means i have no idea what they think? also yes#but some people reach out!!#and i didn't even have to complete my whole marketable story and write a query letter for it!!#stories are communication and communication is always reaching out for a response#i can't write in a vacuum

Would you ever release signed copies of Don't Shoot the Messenger?
the short answer is: yes, i'd love to do signed copies of 'Don't Shoot the Messenger'!
the long answer is: logistics are hard lol. in order for me to hav copies to sign, i'd hav to order author copies from amazon (paying for them in advance personally), sign them, and then mail them to ppl myself. this is definitely doable, but the mechanism for selling since it wouldn't b through amazon itself and actually collecting payment/mailing info would hav to be worked out.
a vague plan that i hav in mind now would be either to just do a limited run where people can essentially pre-order paperbacks via not amazon for lik a month that they were available and then i'd know how much to get and sign etc. i dont hav a patreon so i think i would try to do it through kofi where if u pay a set amount and say its for a signed copy i would then be able to send a signed book to u, after i messaged back for your address to mail it. this would obviously only work small scale but would likely more than suffice for now.
or if i decide to add a hardcover version, i could offer signed hardcovers as a promotion for a similar limited time and via a similar process as above. i'll probably do a poll at some point to see if anyone would even want a hardcover. same for dale
when will i hav the time to look deeper into all this and put it in action? no idea. life's been extremely busy, but its definitely been on my radar and i will try to make it happen in the next coming years.
i suppose if i ever did some sort of in-person book/author event after Dale is out, i might be able to offer signed books in person, but that'd likely b hard to reach for most ppl lol
until then, only one person has a signed copy - one of my beta readers who i thanked in my acknowledgements for being so wonderfully supportive!
#asks#story asks#publishing asks#don't shoot the messenger#self publishing#my novella#my book#DSM#signing books is such a fun and surreal idea#that same friend is always encouraging me to do stuff lik this#i need to convince her to be my marketing person lol#she keeps threatening to get me on booktok#i currently hav no plans to open a patreon#the kofi is good enough for me#logistics can b fun to figure out#but between work work and some issues i'm running into with getting dale edited#i wont be able to figure it out for at least a little while#thanks for letting me talk about this!

I calculated my days of absence from the UK and if I were to submit my citizenship application next may I would exceed the limit due to having fucked off to Italy for 5 months during the covid lockdowns in 2020. which means I could apply in january 2026, provided I only spend 12 weeks out of the UK between now and then. which sounds like a lot but it isn't to me because I work from home and spending a few weeks with my family every now and then has been the only thing keeping me sane
#1st world problems#I've looked for a job with a local office to get out of the house more but the job market is shit!!#my nearest office isn't near enough. if they paid me more I would go sometimes#but my team isn't even based in that office apart from one person who rarely goes#I'm only paid to go to offices in which Im not based and it needs to be an official meeting or something#anyway. it costs over £1600 to apply for citizenship now did you know that#they keep raising the fee#that's without the obligatory paid language test and stupid life in the UK test#easily 2k just to apply#will be even more when I can finally do it#not even sure if I should#tbh it's mainly in case I decide to leave and then regret it#but I could still leave for up to 5 yrs and still come back as things are now#I kinda like the idea of having citizenship though#we'll see#*#personal

I GENUINELY wish I understood the appeal of Taylor Swift I really really do. many of my friends do. but it's just. I don't think a single one of her songs has ever landed above 'ok' or 'nostalgically cheesy' for me and every time I think that I feel so incredibly like I'm trying to be snobby but I'm not? it's not about not liking pop or not liking the cool thing I love pop I love cheese I just also like music that has some...I guess energy and danceability or specific and meaningful rage and I have found nothing to hook into in anything she's made. Antihero nearly works for me. Blank Space works conceptually but not in practise. but other than that the last thing she made that did anything for me even as a throwaway pop song was. god it actually might be We Are Never Ever Ever Getting Back Together or 22 which at least are catchy but I can't say ever made it to my playlists.
I want to get it, I genuinely do. I have listened to most of her releases at least once because I keep thinking if I try hard enough something will open up for me but nah however hard I try it's just extremely mid. like yes that certainly is music. I can immediately recognise it as Taylor Swift, it's not like it's utterly generic, but it absolutely just registers to me as background music. I want so much to understand what it is about her that makes her the biggest person in music for like 15 years now.
(I could say the same about Beyoncé who if anything lands worse for me. Break My Soul owns, but other than that I have landed everything I've heard of hers since like 2008 firmly in the Do Not Relisten pile it just lands like a ton of loose sand for me. and this is not mentioning the actual crime against music that was Jolene bc I don't think that worked for most people tbf. and again it's not that I don't like pop or r&b or rap cause that's like. between those genres about a third of the music I listen to. but her work is just so unengaging to me personally and I don't know why and I wish I got it)
#red said#~oh you just don't like things that are popular~ i LIKE liking things that are popular!#i like lizzo! i love lil nas x! i think billie eilish is amazing! i think I'm too old for olivia rodrigo but i get the appeal!#i think with taylor and possibly also beyonce though there's like a level of calculated pose that makes their music feel like work#like it doesn't. to me. feel like it connects because it feels like a product put together as a marketing persona#and not in a fun way like Katy Perry used to but like. Taylor Swift's music is extremely thought through. even the missteps.#and musically it feels really uninteresting and emotionally it feels like the IDEA of emotional relatability not any kind of insight#it's very middle of the road to me. even when it's taking risks it's not taking risks.#and tbf if i was gonna guess at why she's as popular as she is I'd say it's that. it's sustainable and marketable and well planned.#like Montero was a fucking phenomenal album because it was incredibly honest and creative. but tbh has Lil Nas X had the same impact since?#no not really bc he put EVERYTHING into that album and now tbh he's putting out new music that's fine but not earthshattering#whereas Taylor definitely knows how to market herself and how to change her brand incrementally without having to get more vulnerable#but like. her whole thing is kind of as a confessional singer songwriter vibe. which needs vulnerability and messiness#and to me it always sounds very very managed and very defensive and that is. flat.

I'm not gonna lie, hearing that the Nintendo Switch Online Playtest is identified as a "strand game" has made me more excited than any video game news since Alan Wake 2.
#fannish#I'm not quite sold on the whole concept being just more terra nullis stuff#but like okay. Almost all the most interesting ideas in Death Stranding are currently exclusively used by KojiPro#and the idea that Nintendo has been granted permission to use them#explicitly identified by them using the “strand game” moniker#(b/c *absolutely* no way they could be using that term if there wasn't some kind of a license in place)#is at least a lateral step#Granted my excitement is tempered by the ongoing Palworld lawsuit and the way that intersects with the DS patents#But Nintendo taking a crack at making something all-ages friendly with those mechanics can only have positive effects#also Nintendo is still like the one big big publisher that goes out of its way to cultivate new IPs#Like. I think Nintendo is probably looking for their next Splatoon#For a different genre and market

YOSHIDA Sokhna (吉田 ソクナ)
Here's my design of Taisei Yoshida's mother :) She is an accountant at Yoshida Motors, married to Shigeo. Her daughter is college aged, named Tomoko.
In my headcanon, she is from Senegal 🇸🇳 , and met her husband during a Paris-Dakar event during the 1980s.
She learnt japanese on a whim, in addition to her native wolof, french and arabic, and moved to Kunugigaoka after her marriage.
#assassination classroom#ansatsu kyoushitsu#taisei yoshida#yoshida taisei#sokhna yoshida#shigeo yoshida#tomoko yoshida#assassination classroom families#i will do more so i need to figure out a global tag i guess#i really like how i did her hair! i'm not set on one specific style for her but it was fun.#also she is as interested in motorcycles and all as her husband and son. she WILL be mad about the accountability side of the market#don't hesitate to ask questions! i'm curious if anyone has any more ideas or something...#the yoshida family is literally so great IMO like they're one of the only non toxic kind families in class e. they're balanced and mature#they're the refuge for hazama etc <3 sokhna loans her french lit for her to read
