YOSHIDA Sokhna (吉田 ソクナ)
Here's my design of Taisei Yoshida's mother :) She is an accountant at Yoshida Motors, married to Shigeo. Her daughter is college aged, named Tomoko.
In my headcanon, she is from Senegal 🇸🇳 , and met her husband during a Paris-Dakar event during the 1980s.
She learnt japanese on a whim, in addition to her native wolof, french and arabic, and moved to Kunugigaoka after her marriage.

Summary:
This film depicts the sequel to the original play "Journey to the West" by the popular Kansai comedy troupe Yoshimoto Shinkigeki. In search of a scripture that says everyone can be happy, Tripitaka Monk, Son Goku, Sha Gojyo, and Zhu Bajie continue their journey to faraway India, but are sent to the future by the magic of the demon Big Cobra, who is after Tripitaka Monk's blood. When they reach Taiwan in 2015 and are at a loss, Tripitaka and his friends meet a beautiful woman named Ling Ling and, with her help, resume their journey to India, which is supposedly in Taiwan...
Succhie, who has been the leader of Yoshimoto Shinkigeki since 2014, plays Tripitaka Monk, while former leader and veteran Ikeno Medaka plays Big Cobra. The beautiful woman Ling Ling is played by Ikebata Reina, a model and actress who is also active in Taiwan.

I've figured out who will be grouped with whom in the round 1 polls.
Before the actual polls, I will post brief character profiles—you know, basic information like their age, personality, blood type, and so on. I also plan to include some quotes that people put in their submissions, but most people didn't include anything.
Which is fine, but I'd like to be able to include something for most or all characters. I can (and plan to) look elsewhere on Tumblr, but if you have something you want to say about your faves, you can either send it as an Ask or submit it here. (Send it as an Ask if you want me to maybe post it as a propaganda post, submit it through the form if you just want to privately ramble.)
A full list of children participating in the Anime Child Adoption Bracket is here; a list of the ones who will show up in the first set of polls (and hence profiles) will be under the cut.

YOSHIDA Shigeo (吉田 重夫)
Here's the follow-up to yesterday's post: Shigeo, Sokhna's husband, and mechanic as Yoshida Motors. We do see him in canon, during the timeskip recap, so I had a base.
Notably, his son (and his daughter whose design I'll share soon) inherited the triangular chin, nose, and the arched eyebrows. However, having a cap, I couldn't make sense of his hair.
So it kind of looks 90s, despite technically being set in 2014, but it's okay.
Sometimes, people figure out style that fit them and stick with it, even if it's not 'trendy' anymore. I kind of imagine Shigeo to be that guy that looked 'old' at 25-30, but stayed that way, so ended up looking younger than his peers when age caught up.
Again, a very nice, encouraging, hardworking dad. Can you tell I'm trying to counteract the “awful parents” ratio of Class E? Because I am.
The guy who is probably Mr. Yoshida, in canon (in the 7 years timeskip with adult Yoshida, so in 2022-ish) :

"Tom Coffman has produced a definitive account of Americans of Japanese ancestry in Hawai‘i during World War II. His book shows how local Japanese figures such as Shigeo Yoshida joined forces with a diverse group of allies, both inside and outside official circles, to mobilize Japanese communities in support of the war and the public in support of Japanese communities. They averted the tragedy of mass confinement, such as that on the US mainland, and their success made Hawai‘i a model for inclusion of ethnic Japanese in mainstream society. Packed with fascinating details, Tom Coffman’s work enlarges our understanding of this key era in American history."

Japan is America at Fergus McCaffrey gallery in Chelsea "explores the complex artistic networks that informed avant-garde art in Japan and America between 1952 and 1985. Starting with the well-documented emergence of “American-Style Painting” that ran parallel to the Americanization of Japan in the 1950s, Japan Is America endeavors to illustrate the path and conditions from Japanese surrender in 1945 to that country's putative cultural take-over of the United States some forty years later".
Artists in the show include: Yuji Agematsu, Ruth Asawa, James Lee Byars, John Cage, Joe Goode, Sam Francis, Marcia Hafif, Noriyuki Haraguchi, Tatsuo Ikeda, Shigeo Ishii, Ishiuchi Miyako, Jasper Johns, Alison Knowles, Nobuaki Kojima, Tomio Miki, Sadamasa Motonaga, Hiroshi Nakamura, Natsuyuki Nakanishi, Senga Nengudi, Yoko Ono, Ken Price, Robert Rauschenberg, Ed Ruscha, Richard Serra, Ushio Shinohara, Fujiko Shiraga, Kazuo Shiraga, Jiro Takamatsu, Anne Truitt, and Toshio Yoshida.
This exhibition closes 1/18/20.
