#uuugughghghghhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!#the thing about reigen.#is that he is SIMULTANEOUSLY like 'yeah i taught them everything they know what would they even be without me'#AND 'but they're so good and i ruin everything i touch; everything they learned is despite my influence not because of it'#the crippling self-loathing and the massive ego are on a fundamental level The Same Thing#(teru has this also)#and it drives me INSANE#like. he is desperate for his influence to be credited#but also refuses to see that traits about Mob (and Serizawa) that he admires are a direct result of his influence#i am going to go chew on the walls.

sometimes i really do wonder if reigen is aware of just how big an impact he’s had on mob (and serizawa as well). like i know he must know he’s helped them in some way, and most of the time i think he understands the full extent of it but then he goes and says stuff like this as if he isn’t the WHOLE REASON THOSE TWO ARE LIKE THAT like babe…. who do you think taught them to think of their powers as just another trait like being charismatic or a fast runner. YOU DID THAT

#at no point!!#Reigen doesn't repress things in the same way Mob does but he is sooooooo good at Not Thinking About Them#the difference between trying to shut something away in a suitcase under your bed#and just stepping over it for weeks#while adamently not looking down#Reigen is a Normal Man with a Normal Life and by god he will find a way to rationalize all this nonsense into it#without giving up on the idea of being Normal#the man who looked at an immense psychic storm tearing his city apart#and went 'oh you know how puberty can be!!'#is absolutely not processing ANY of this#he will remain Just Some Guy no matter how much high-stakes psychic nonsense and how many evil organizations life throws at him#and i think that's beautiful

the entire encompassed plot of mob psycho had to be so insane for reigen in particular. before an elementary schooler with complex PTSD wandered into his forgettable, barely afloat scam office, he was just some guy. Literally a random lonely dude with no friends and no real direction. and then three years later he’s pulling the trigger on a pistol, trying to murder a homicidal terrorist with god-like powers who’s leveled the whole city in order to save his pupil’s life. this entire story had to be such a ride for him. at what point does he sit down and be like “how the actual fuck did this happen. how did i get here. that was a premeditated murder attempt.”
