It's also an oversight of the implications of "be gay do crime." I don't know enough about the history of the phrase to know if it deliberately echoes the history of criminalization of "homosexual acts" in countries like Britain and the US, but it certainly has that suggestion. For context, the term "straight" originated as gay slang in Britain because it was illegal to "perform homosexual acts" in Britain at the time the slang originated. "Straight" originally meant "law-abiding," so anyone who was gay was by definition "not straight." Which makes the whole homophobes calling for "straight pride parades" all the more hilarious, but that's a topic for a different post.
"Be gay do crime" was literally the experience of any queer person in Britain before the decriminalization of homosexuality, because if you were gay and recognized and accepted that part of yourself, you were at minimum at risk of violating the law.
In a way, transmasc people are therefore experiencing the trauma of past generations of queer people in the US and Britain who were policed for their behavior and experiences as queer individuals. It's the logical fallout of criminalizing identities. It isn't that you are deliberately seeking to break the law for nefarious reasons, it's that by nature of *who you are*, your very existence is itself a crime.
And if that doesn't meet the criteria for cruel and unusual punishment, I don't know what does.
I think it’s normal to be afraid of jail especially for trans men who are disabled or not white or are mentally ill. to casually joke about “what happened to be gay do crimes” to a population whose mortality is threatened by the prospect of jail is deeply cruel and deranged behavior.

i wish more people would understand that trying to label a nonbinary person as transmasc or transfem is still forcing them into a binary

seeing other trans people be happy and enjoy being trans is not a threat to you. to doubt their transness because they're (perceived as to be) not as miserable as you is, however, a threat to them. - transmonstera
[IMAGE ID: "to measure the validity of other transsexuals by their misery is to hold the cissexual narrative higher than your own right to joy" in bold white text. the background is a number of yellow measuring tapes and rulers. the base of the measuring tapes has a sad face sticker on the side. the background is solid black. Anyway, my opinion on the current trans infighting is that any portrayal of intracommunity discourse as transfem vs. transmasc inherently obfuscates the shared fight against transmisogynists and transandrophobes. It simplifies a complex and varied community to two opposing sides instead of as a fight against transphobia in all its forms. Every trans person is systematically oppressed due to being trans, sometimes in noticably similar ways and sometimes in different ways depending on various factors; Any trans person can be victimized by any other person, trans or cis, and the overarching transphobia and bigotry can be used to excuse it. One's own oppression cannot and should not be as a weapon to silence another's, no matter how well-intentioned it may seem.
PLEASE listen to other trans people in good faith and understand that we're all in the same boat, regardless of our specific trans identities.

The other day I was on a walk in the evening with two of my friends (both girls) and we were talking about how safe or unsafe we feel in different places at night and one of them said she always carries a pocket knife with her and the other one said
"See now I feel pretty safe, you have a knife, I'm tall and" she turns to me "your gender presentation is weird enough to confuse a potential attacker."
I've never felt more gender validation in my entire life.

"Lesbian means exclusive attraction to women!"
"No, it means non-men exclusively attracted to non-men!"
"It actually means queer attraction to women!"
"Lesbian means women and nonbinary people being exclusively attracted to other women and nonbinary people!"
Lesbian is a multifaceted label that can describe many different experiences. There is no one perfect definition of lesbian that will encompass the entire diverse experiences that lesbians can have.
I'm personally a genderqueer woman who's exclusively attracted to other women, but the lesbian next to me might be a transmasc lesbian who loves all genders except for men. And the lesbian next to them might be a bigender lesbian who's both a girl and a boy, who's exclusively attracted to women. Our experiences can all be described by the term lesbian if that's how we wish to describe it, but we might define it differently based on our own experiences. And guess what?
None of our definitions are wrong, but none of our definitions will encompass every other lesbian's experiences. A word can have multiple definitions without any of the definitions being wrong. And those definitions can be very vague or very specific. Labels are made to fit us- we aren't made to fit labels.
People who may have a different experience with the lesbian label are not your enemies. People in lesbian spaces who aren't exactly like you are not your enemies. The problem comes when you try to force one singular definition on every single lesbian. THAT is harmful. Sending death threats to other lesbians because they don't have the same experience as you is harmful. Not another lesbian having a different experience from you.

on the subject of transphobia
can we stop fucking assuming that every nonbinary person is transmasc or transfemme?
this is the biggest peeve I have with this whole transmisogyny vs transandrophobia debate -- y'all are so busy arguing about transmasc vs transfemme and the nonbinary or intersex people who don't identify with either of those terms are completely left in the dirt
let's not create yet another binary, yeah?

drew this in-between anxiously checking the polls to see if i will have rights by this time next year.
i know there will be so many more people more disenfranchised by the laws imposed on our lives and on our bodies if trump is voted into office, but i'm still scared. i will be 18 next year and i may not get to transition into the man i have waited for over a decade to be, and i am scared.
but it doesn't mean i wont fight. it doesn't mean i won't continue to be loudly queer and it doesn't mean that i won't find a way to be me and fight for my rights. if trump makes it illegal to get trans healthcare safely, i will do it myself, and i will fight for others to do it themselves, too.

I've determined that my relationship to groups of straight men is I'm like a cute little monkey that can do tricks for them (ex. at a party at uni one time one of the guys brought like a 5kg(?) dumbbell from his room and had me try n lift it with my tiny E-based spaghetti arms, and when I labourously managed to they all cheered), or like- when I wanna say smth, they'll shush their other lads like "yo, shut up, the monkey's gonna talk! I wanna hear what it has to say!", like they don't sexualise me (cause issa monkey) but they're still endeared to me (cause is tiny and cute)
like you know those capuchin monkeys that people put in little outfits, that's what lads see when they look at me
it's giving freak show (affectionate) a little bit, but I think straight men not being interested in me while still being nice to me is possibly the best nonbinary deal I coulda gotten out of this

...how do we feel about transmasc miquella.
how do we feel about transmasc miquella trying so desperately to carve out his own fate and assert his own individuality in amongst so many people telling him what he has to do; what's expected of him.
how do we feel about transmasc miquella where trina was described as 'his fate' in the trailer; where he was fated to be seen by many as a woman despite the fact he's a man.
how do we feel about transmasc miquella burying trina partially because he wanted to bury the emotions she governed, but partially because he wanted to bury the very notion of himself being misgendered; wanted to bury the feminine half so he wouldn't be seen as something, someone, that he simply isn't.

Keep being the awesome people you are, and don't let other people get in the way of letting you be yourself. Even if you're in a situation where being completely out isn't an option, or nobody else is able to know for safety reasons, know that I am here and I respect and value your internal feelings and identity. If you ever need someone to talk to, someone to be a listening ear, just know that I'm always a DM away. If you want to try out a new set of pronouns for yourself, I will happily help you explore that form of self-expression. I love you all. Stay safe, stay happy, and stay yourself 💛
