Saw "Stiles" trending on twitter, got a bit nosey and upon further inspection, the movie looks really rubbish. However, as a lifelong Stalia shipper even after all these years, I do take a small petty amount of satisfaction that Stydia broke up for almost as dumb a reason as Stalia.
#Anti Teen Wolf Movie#Stalia#Anti Stydia#I say almost.#At least with Stiles and Lydia#it's clear that they broke up.#I'm never forgiving or forgetting that most of the fandom#(anti's and shippers alike)#didn't understand Stiles and Malia's break up.#Because it was so crappily done.#And so awfully reasoned.

I don't like the fact that the fandom makes Branch forgive Floyd just for being the "favorite brother"
I'm a big fan of angst BroZone, they deserve a big kick in the ass.
But I notice that something I find very repetitive that Branch doesn't forgive his older brothers except for Floyd. And it seems to me that it shouldn't be like that, Floyd also has fault for abandoning Branch and I think he's the one who has it the MOST.
Yea, Floyd was the one who said goodbye and all that and blablabla.
BUT, let's not forget that he made a promise to come back for him after he finished his solo career. AND IN THE END HE NEVER CAME BACK. For 20 YEARS he never came back for his brother, and in the movie he didn't even mention visiting the Tree again. (I'm forced to give JD a point) Floyd managed to make Branch believe and they built their hideout.
And I have questions.
-Why hasn't he returned during these decades? -What was he doing during these 20 years? -Did he also go to see the tree but when he found the decomposing tree he thought that everyone died just like JD thought? -Didn't he have any news about Branch after the events of Trolls 2? -What if Floyd really lied to Branch to not make him feel bad?
The last question is a theory I thought about. Floyd may have said all that to Branch because he knew that he couldn't tell a baby that he would go off to make a life for himself without his family.
Also, if the events of Trolls 3 hadn't happened, I bet on my life that Floyd would still be around without bothering to go after Branch, while Branch would continue to feel that lack of family love and abandonment problems.
In conclusion, make BroZone angst but Floyd also gets his ass kicked.
#dreamworks trolls#This time there's no art#sorry guys#But I needed to say that#I really really like Branch&Floyd angst#It's better than Branch&JD angst#trolls floyd#trolls branch#trolls band together

Gods this fandom sometimes, I swear. I'm sorry I read two deeply bad takes back to back, and I have to rant. I'm sure others have said it better than I, but really. Come on. I actually have to wonder if people who talk about the extras actually read them because...
Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji didn't leave the cultivation world in canon. They elope, and then they come back. The fact they're not involved in the bigger politics is... pretty much to be expected, but they very much do participate in the day to day lives of the Lan sect. They go where the chaos is to night hunt, they teach, Lan Wangji comforts his brother in his seclusion, and Wei Wuxian meets some new Lan disciples.
As for the cottage fantasy... Again, I honestly have to wonder if the people talking about it actually read the extra it's in? Because it's just that. A fantasy. A dream. It's basically a representation of Wei Wuxian's wants for a domestic life, something he definitely has now! He's always been characterised as someone who wants to help others and who loves cultivation. Why would you think the dream is to be taken literally?
And the idea that Wei Wuxian has 'several important relationships just floating there', that he's not dealing with... Where? Which ones? He teaches the juniors and grows closer to Jin Ling. He doesn't exactly interact with Lan Xichen, but he asks after him. He meets Mianmian again and wishes her well. He asks after Wen Ning after Lan Sizhui comes back then has some father-son bonding moments with him!
Nie Huaisang and Wei Wucian aren't close. They were friendly once, but they didn't ever meet after the lectures. I don't see how that qualifies as an "important" relationship, especially with Nie Huaisang never openly admitting to his part in Wei Wuxian's resurrection. But even then, Wei wuxian says he'll be keeping a close eye on him, so one can imagine they meet again at some point.
As for Jiang Cheng... what more do you want Wei Wuxian to do exactly? Even if you want a reconciliation, why can't Jiang Cjeng be he one to actually grow up and do the work for once? He's the one who never apologized. He's the one who is still openly hostile in the extras. If Wei Wuxian wants to move on and not interact with him, he's well within his right to do that, given how Jiang Cheng treated him. Hell, he's more generous than most since he encourages Jin Ling to talk to Jiang Cheng. If I'd been treated by someone like Jiang Cheng treated Wei Wuxian and saw him hit our nephew several times, I certainly wouldn't encourage them to meet. (But that's Wei Wuxian for you, the moral ideal and better than all of us.)
Anyway, I really don't understand why people insist on making Wangxian have a sadder ending than the one they actually did. It's a HEA for them, sorry guys. And yeah, maybe Wei wuxian has some trauma to work on... but the whole point of the character is that he doesn't let his trauma define him. That he wants to forgives, forgets and moves on.
(Also, just because he doesn't have a breakdown or the cultivation equivalent of therapy in the extra doesn't mean he's not working on them? He finally is at peace, with a solid support network. Maybe he does talk about his past hurts with Lan Wangji - Lan Wangji certai ly knows when to comfort him when he needs it. But the narrative point of the extras is to show they're moving on from the past! And you know what, sometimes the beat thing to do to heal is to do just that. They're living their best lives, deal with it.)
And finally... shit did you really read the whole book and come to the conclusion Wei Wuxian should have 'learned to accept help'? Who the fuck offered help? Who did he refuse?
(Don't say Lan Wangji. 1) I love him, but "Come back to Gusu" is very much not an obvious offer to help, and when Wei Wuxian understandably misunderstands him, he never manages to correct it.
And 2) once Wei Wuxian tells him explicitly he's not leaving the Wen remnants behind, Lan Wangji understands and backs off. He approves! I'm sure he'd do more if he could, but just like Jiang Yanli, he can't!)
Jiang Cheng literally said, 'No one will help you, no one is on your side' (and then made sure that was true by saying Wei Wuxian was the enemy of the cultivation world). Jin Zixuan chose to ask the one who was ambushed to disarm rather than the 300 cultivators attacking him and lunged at him when Wei Wuxian refused to comply (because he'd be killed if he did!!). How is that help?
Who else tried to help? Whose help did Wei Wuxian reject?
Wei Wuxian was presented with a series of bad choices and took the best he could, the ones aligned with his principles, accepting he'd have to face consequences at some point but also knowing it was still worth it. He's not the one who failed or made a fatal mistake or betrayed his word.
Rant over. Sorry about that.
#MDZS#Wangxian#Wei Wuxian#I am so sorry but those two posts pissed me off#I dont want to fall into the easy argument lf 'you lack reading comprehension' but...#seriously all of that is EXPLICITLY SAID in the text#this is not interpretation!

Self insert Fandom
I've come to realise that most of the toxicity within the acotar fandom is often rooted in a ridiculous amount of self insert. They see a character as them, therefore their actions are absolved. They see another character in their abuser, or worse, 'as' their abusers and so they can never be impartial towards them, thinking the worst because in real life they've dealt with a lot.
I get it. Art can sometimes mimic reality, but they are indeed forgetting that this is a whole fantasy fiction book about human women turned fae getting dicked down with a hint of war and political intrigue. These characters are not, in fact, you or your abusers. Making the series so personal to themselves can then lead to a lack of introspection of the work as a whole made to be enjoyed and critiqued to the readers' preference, whether shallow or in depth.
But because this fandom in particular seem to make these books so personal than reading it as a piece of fiction, they're inflicting real world scenarios onto fictional characters and if their characters face any backlash or reasonable questioning, they take it as a personal attack which for some reason leads to insults and wild assumptions of very REAL people.
"No, no one is saying you should forgive your abuser mum, boyfriend, sister, because this literally isn't about you. I dont know you or your situation. Im talking about *insert character*."
"No, I don't think reactive abuse is OK, though I also don't believe lying about SA is OK either, let alone condoning SA."
"What do you mean it's abusive to lock someone up and then make an excuse to say it's not abuse to lock someone else up?"
The mental gymnastics is truly outstanding. If they're so called morally grey, let them be just that.
Speaking for myself, it's easy to find some commonality in a characters personality. It's written by a whole human who has a personality too, after all. But I do not attach myself to these characters as if they are my family members or those dear to me. They are, in fact, not real, and I will talk about them in the context of a fantasy text, generally.
Now the moment you take their actions out of a fantasy text, every character, and I mean, every character, needs to be dealt with the same scrutiny. Your faves will be called out and dragged. You cannot call real people names, but then think highly of yourself when your faves have done worse. What does that then make you? A racist? A misogynist? An AS denier? An abuse apologist? Someone who endorses apartheid? Someone who's OK with controlling the female body? A war criminal?
You see how absurd that all is?
Honestly, it's not that deep. But again, it's not bad to see yourself in character. Just realise that when people have some reservations about them, they are not calling YOU out. They are strictly talking about that character and that character alone. But maybe if you find so much offence, perhaps you should think about why that is. Look deep and figure out why it troubles you so much. Perhaps they're holding up a mirror, and you simply can not bear to look into it, seeming that that character represents you so much.
I think this is the only fandom I've been involved in where simply daring to disagree with the main MC and side characters can lead to online prosecution and just so much hostility. I've seen some truly nasty comments, and it's boggling. I can imagine how off-putting it may seem to newer readers.
I long for the days when people can talk about the characters and narrative alone without feeling the need to make disclosures about what they support in real life because it's truly unnecessary. I thought reading fiction was meant to be a form of escapism, not defending my moral standpoint.
If I said I enjoyed Katherine Pierce, Klaus Mikaelson and Kai Parker from TVD, what then? They're despicable, but fucking enjoyable. Don't get me started on Game of Thrones characters.
Alright, I'm done now 😅

Self-rec time! What are your favorite five fics that you've written and why? After replying to this ask, feel free pass on to five other writers to spread the love. 💗
Oh god, this is like picking a favourite child 😅😅 but I'll rank them from most to least
1. Consuming Shadows
This was my first big story back, after I stopped writing for about six years. I was just testing the waters, having fun, and I wanted to play around with a ship I had only really just started consuming content for. It very quickly reignited my passion for writing, and it's blown up in such a way that I had never anticipated. I love the plot, I love the characters, I love Hadrian's progression from snarky but emotionally distant figure to a genuinely warm and loving friend, I love how well I managed to keep the threads of storylines and foreshadowing together, and I love the slow development of Hadrian and Tom's relationship in a way that's believable and does them both justice. The fact that so many people have resonated with it over the years has really left a mark on me, and I'll never forget all the things this story gave me.
2. you belong to me (i belong to you)
This one really was just my 'haha this is for the lolz' story. It was never meant to be popular or as big as it is. I was just fumbling around, wanting to write a cool time travel story, and then I came up with the Twist and it was no longer a joke 😂 I love the dynamics in it, I love Harry's general vibe, I love Orion and his chaos gremlin schtick. I'm still amazed that I came up with the plot twist (like, seriously, I don't think I can ever replicate that). And the fact that this story grew so popular and that so many people have enjoyed what started as my funny lil project overwhelms me in the best way.
3. The Lone Wolf Dies (But The Pack Survives)
In a lot of ways, this was a love letter to Regulus. I'd never really given him much thought as a character, but I fell in love with my interpretation of him. He's incredibly complex, and the future potential of the story really makes me excited.
4. ruination
Again, it's more the potential of this story that makes me love it. I wasn't super comfortable writing for asoiaf, and the fandom makes me...uneasy in a lot of ways. But I greatly enjoy all the ways this story could go. Lucerys intrigues me, and my interpretation of his character is especially fun to think about. I want to explore the slow but fundamental shift in a character, something that leads to them becoming almost unrecognisable. I love fantasy, and getting to play around in such an immersive world makes me giddy.
5. i don't owe you my forgiveness
It's only one chapter at the moment, but I really really really love the concept of soulmate rejection and the bitterness that is sown by Tom's hasty actions. The inherent power imbalance - originally in Tom's favour and then very dangerously in Harry's - is one dynamic I can't wait to sink my teeth into.

Thank you so much for your answer! I'd love to hear your thoughts on their relationship before the series begins. We know that the scene they shared in agot was not reflective of their actual dynamic even if most people loooove to forget that part. How did they interact? Did they ever? How was their relationship especially when Jon was a toddler or around 7-8? Thank you for your time!
oh fun question! well let's start from the beginning, we know that Catelyn was upset to find Jon in Winterfell before her
When the wars were over at last, and Catelyn rode to Winterfell, Jon and his wet nurse had already taken up residence. That cut deep. A Game of Throne- Catelyn II
but keep in mind Catelyn didn't know Ned yet. they'd obviously met and married but she doesn't really know anything about his temperament yet and even with that she's just arrived in a new place that will be her home forever, there's no way out, so the idea of her immediately showing her displeasure with Jon or Ned feels unlikely to me because in Family, Duty, Honor fashion she would first and foremost try to make her new family work to fulfill her father's alliance and be forced to put her wounded honor to the side. we know she did eventually work up the courage to ask Ned about Ashara Dayne
The Lady Ashara Dayne, tall and fair, with haunting violet eyes. It had taken her a fortnight to marshal her courage, but finally, in bed one night, Catelyn had asked her husband the truth of it, asked him to his face. That was the only time in all their years that Ned had ever frightened her. "Never ask me about Jon," he said, cold as ice. A Game of Thrones- Catelyn II
Ned scared her so bad she never asked again and neither did the servants. Now the fandom has a pretty simplistic, whitewashed view of Ned that isn't supported in canon but I would still call this out of character for him and Catelyn does too but remember, she barely knew him at this point, so it makes sense why she completely dropped the topic of not just Ashara but probably Jon as whole for a few years. but of course we know it does come up again.
Now I personally think the real trouble would start to come in as Jon was weened and was still in Winterfell. If he no longer needed a wet-nurse there's no reason not to foster him off in classic bastard fashion and Catelyn clearly thinks so too
Whoever Jon's mother had been, Ned must have loved her fiercely, for nothing Catelyn said would persuade him to send the boy away. It was the one thing she could never forgive him. A Game of Thrones- Catelyn II
Catelyn, of her own admission, was often trying to get Ned to kick Jon out of Winterfell. now this is where I need to remind people that I LOVE Catelyn Tully Stark. I'm on her team, I'm on her side, I'd buy her Mother's Day gifts if I could. most people in this fandom are actually pretty chill about the Catelyn Jon dynamic but there are two sides that think catelyn was an evil abusive wicked witch of the west specifically out to get an infant because she just feels like being evil and another side that thinks she never did anything to him and he's a spoiled brat who should be grateful she didn't make him sleep outside and eat only dog food. both are extremely annoying.
the truth is Catelyn was cruel to Jon and yes by George RR Martin's own words she never laid hands on him and she wasn't directly berating him throughout the years because like I said Catelyn isn't evil and she doesn't enjoy cruelty but when a child says he feels guilty eating in front of you there's a problem.
Jon wondered how Lady Catelyn's sister would feel about feeding Ned Stark's bastard. As a boy, he often felt as if the lady grudged him every bite. A Dance With Dragons- Jon IV
now it's possible Jon is projecting his own insecurities on to Catelyn here except:
Catelyn had nothing against this girl, but suddenly she could not help but think of Ned's bastard on the Wall, and the thought made her angry and guilty, both at once. She struggled to find words for a reply. A Game of Thrones- Catelyn VI
Catelyn does feel guilty for the way she's treated Jon. yes making Jon feel uncomfortable in Winterfell served a purpose, making sure he knows its not his. he has no right to it. Robb does. Robb will inherit. If not Robb then Bran, if not Bran then Rickon and so on and so forth. but none the less it was fucking mean. but here's the thing, Catelyn can't change society, she's navigating the rules she's given and Ned isn't, I imagine that would send her up a wall sometimes. because as she said Ned can have all the bastards he wants and she wouldn't care but Jon has no business being there and no business being treated like a true born next to her actual true born sons
"This is Valyrian steel, my lord," he said wonderingly. His father had let him handle Ice often enough; he knew the look, the feel. A Game of Thrones- Jon VIII
why the hell is Jon being allowed to handle the Stark ancestral sword? this is so widely out of the norm for Westeros it almost feels illegal. I can completely understand why Catelyn started trying to drill into Robb's head that Jon was different from him
That morning he called it first. "I'm Lord of Winterfell!" he cried, as he had a hundred times before. Only this time, this time, Robb had answered, "You can't be Lord of Winterfell, you're bastard-born. My lady mother says you can't ever be the Lord of Winterfell." A Storm of Swords- Jon XII
and it's also known throughout the Winterfell that there are hostilities between Jon and Catelyn. when Robb see's Jon is upset he immediately wonders if his mother is the reason
His voice was flat and tired. The visit had taken all the strength from him. Robb knew something was wrong. "My mother …" "She was … very kind," Jon told him. A Game of Thrones- Jon II
Jon also famously has the line where he admits Catelyn has never so much as called him by his name before so on Catelyn's side the relationship is somewhere on a spectrum from non existent to hostile. on Jon's side? well we know that Jon very consciously craved a mother
He knew nothing of his mother; Eddard Stark would not talk of her. Yet he dreamed of her at times, so often that he could almost see her face. A Game of Thrones- Jon III
often felt like he had to prove himself to his father
Bastard children were born from lust and lies, men said; their nature was wanton and treacherous. Once Jon had meant to prove them wrong, to show his lord father that he could be as good and true a son as Robb. I made a botch of that. A Storm of Swords- Jon X
and I want to be clear, I know it wasn't Catelyn's job to make Jon feel welcome in his home, Ned really dropped the ball. It's Ned's fault that Jon just assumed he'd be destitute with no prospects by the time he turned 16 and it shows in the way Jon craves father figures in his life after he leaves Winterfell. Jeor Mormont, Benjen Stark, Mance Rayder, Maester Aemon, Stannis Baratheon I mean the list goes on. The thing is though there are no older women in Jon's life. Not at the Wall and not really in Winterfell either. He and Robb don't seem to take lessons from Septa Mordane and while Old Nan certainly taught him some important stories she doesn't seem to have set a maternal presence in his life.
I'm not saying Catelyn was or should have been Jon's mother because she wasn't and it surely wasn't her job but I do think she subconsciously fills that second parental placeholder in his head next to Ned because he clearly craves one but has no other woman to fill it.
Lord of Winterfell. I could be the Lord of Winterfell. My father's heir. It was not Lord Eddard's face he saw floating before him, though; it was Lady Catelyn's. A Storm of Swords- Jon XII
while this isn't Jon's deciding factor the idea of upsetting her or once again being rejected by her really bothers him, so much so that he can't even go on training with his friends, he has to leave and take a walk all alone. She's also one of the deciding factors when he's deciding whether to take his lifelong vows for the Night's Watch.
By the time the moon was full again, he would be back in Winterfell with his brothers. Your half brothers, a voice inside reminded him. And Lady Stark, who will not welcome you. A Game of Thrones- Jon V
but let's be clear Jon isn't just sitting around waiting for her to hug him. he doesn't like her either.
"Lady Stark is not my mother," Jon reminded him sharply. Tyrion Lannister had been a friend to him. If Lord Eddard was killed, she would be as much to blame as the queen. A Game of Thrones- Jon VII
he blames her for Ned's death just as much as he blames Cersei which is unfair and a bit delusional but childhood resentment will do that to a 15 year old.
So what was Jon and Catelyn's relationship like? Bad. Catelyn and Jon never had a chance. they were failed by the system. women and bastards seem to have a lot in common in Westeros in the sense that their agency is greatly limited. their safety rests on the graces of whatever man has placed their claim on them and this woman and this bastard were vying for the graces of the same man and felt one couldn't have it if the other did too. which is a shame in and of itself because I think they're both better at this game than Ned was.
***Less about their pre-series relationship but Jon and Catelyn have so much in common thematically and politically speaking. I did a parallel of them if you'd like to check it out

The Blackjack Essay I thought up at like 3am because Blackjack is a great character if you really think about it hard enough
I had some Blackjack Thoughts yesterday night (cuz I woke up in the middle of the night and I always soothe myself back to sleep by brainrotting over characters or made up scenarios). Cuz yknow, okay:
So Blackjack is the soul, and he's a soul that was blackened by regret yeah? And not just that, but he takes the form of a his childhood dog rather than of himself (which is interesting, more on that later). I think we can agree that, while we never get to know in meaningful detail what the living Jack Kennedy was TRULY like, soulless Corpse!Jack is probably closer to his original living self in personality than the Blackjack we saw at the end of DSAF 3 True Ending, or rather, in most of what we see of Blackjack's coded/capitalized lines (more on that later too). Corpse!Jack is more chill (in a feral way of course) in that he moves on from things like grudges or regrets, which in the good routes manifests in him being able to keep going despite how emotionally hard it should be to e.g. leave his family once and for all, or to forgive his sister's murderer in favor of seeing the good in him. It's not a perfectly moral aspect, as there are things he probably should be hung up on (cough cough Dave), and Blackjack sure is. (We love some moral greyness in this household.) And then of course, in the evil route, it manifests in Corpse!Jack having a very easy time befriending and emulating his siblings' murderers and even killing his siblings himself. Obviously Blackjack could never conceive of acting in any of these ways, and he definitely lets evil Jack know.
So. I am of the headcanon that, all the trauma of Jack's death and the events leading up to it, all of his regrets from it, Blackjack took it all with him, leaving Corpse!Jack with little to none of it left. For better or for worse, Corpse!Jack does not carry the same emotional baggage from his personal tragedy that Blackjack is completely lost in. And then my point about Blackjack taking on the form of a dog instead of himself... and him not really acting like his old self compared to at least TrueRoute!Jack. At least most of the time, as we'll see soon. Because in the True Routes, Dee and eventually Peter are able to recognize True!Jack as their old brother pretty easily even despite the circumstances, but Blackjack? He's unrecognizable to all of them except eventually Corpse!Jack himself. According to her, Blackjack warned Dee about Evil!Jack's true nature in DSAF 2 (when you're doing a route with her as Legacy!Jack), and she didn't realize who he was, she only saw a Shadow Doggo; and of course at the end of DSAF 3, even after revealing who Blackjack is, Peter and Dee sure don't treat Blackjack like their dear old brother the way they regard Corpse!Jack. He's just a stranger to them now, and of course he is, because he's little like how he used to be in life, how Corpse!Jack still is in life. And after a faux eternity of being a Shadow Doggo operating behind the scenes with every opportunity to reveal himself, I'm of the opinion that he wants it to be this way, that he be forgotten in his failures while someone else takes his old role for him and does it well.
And it's because he is so steeped in his hatred born from his regret, that it completely warped his way of thinking to focus on revenge against Henry, or also his hyperfocus on Evil!Jack's wrongdoings. But while that's what most people see him for in his entirety (in both canon and fandom), as it's the front he nearly always puts on, people often forget one really important scene from him that may be the only glimpse of his more authentic self, one that isn't steeped in regret or any emotions stemming from it based on it. Do you remember the little speech Blackjack gives to Corpse!Jack after the True ending in DSAF 2 after the Happiest Day? He talks about him being "proud of us" (hinting at his and Corpse!Jack's link), but then ponders the possibility of redemption and decides, if it is possible, then he is glad that Corpse!Jack has been redeemed. So still excluding himself from that redemption despite just prior finding solace in what Corpse!Jack has done on both their behalf. It's like he sees Corpse!Jack more as himself than, yknow, himself (and you can imagine that this same truth probably also leads to why he despises Evil!Jack so much). And all of this must be very good for his self-esteem /s
Very notably, this one scene is the only dialogue of his that is not Caps locked or coded, and a recurring theme among souls is that caps locked dialogue is always steeped in more powerful (often but not exclusively negative) emotions, while regular lowercase text seems to show much more human authenticity. We see it in Jacob before vs. after he calms down and comes to terms with his death, we see it in Dee always being lowercase, as she seems to always be her honest self, we even see it in Fredbear, as he is always grandly talking in all caps as the powerful entity he is except in his promise with Jack's corpse where he is entirely lowercase and talks much more sincerely like a real person to him out of honest humility. So anyway, this one scene with Blackjack in my opinion is the only scene we really get to see Jack's real personality shine through in him, a personality we see much more readily in Corpse!Jack.
And now to finally return to my point about Blackjack taking on the form of a dog instead of as himself. So lets combine all these previous points: 1) He is blackened by Regret; 2) He is in a nearly constant state of negative/powerful emotions stemming from his regret as indicated by all his his caps/code text; 3) he is still capable, if rarely, of showing his more human personality; 4) Dee and Peter seem to much more readily recognize Corpse!Jack as their brother than Blackjack; 5) Blackjack is proud of True!Jack's good actions in DSAF 2 and implies that only he (but not himself) is deserving of redemption; (and heck, let's also throw in) 6) the fact that he chooses not to hide in an unrecognizable form and seems to estrange himself from his siblings to let Corpse!Jack fulfill his role as Jack for them in his place
What I'm getting at (finally) is that I think Trauma Fucked Him Up™; I think it completely fucked up his self-esteem replacing it with deep-rooted self-hatred and shame. It might be that he simply cannot bear to resemble himself, not after all he's done (leaving his sister's party to bury their dog and drink away his sorrows, which left her to die, lowkey (highkey?) betraying both of his siblings' trust, and then failing in his attempt to right his mistakes by dying instead and making things worse, at least from Blackjack's POV who didn't have any sort of promise to turn his death into a chance at redemption).
Except, he can hopefully make his death into some sort of chance for redemption thanks to his powers born from sheer regret-fuelled hatred by trapping and seemingly torturing Henry. At least, this is how he chooses to cope with all of his feelings in a way that feels productive. But of course, they don't solve the root of his regret, or the root of his low self-worth, as he is really just indulging in and marinating in his negative emotions for a theoretical eternity. And during all this, he is also watching over Corpse!Jack in all of his parallel timelines, seeing both the best and worst versions of himself (literally). He sees his neutral/evil route selves indulging in the worst vices imaginable without care, and he must see himself in them anyway, because Corpse!Jack did inherit his vices after all, naturally including his drinking problem for a start, except now he's actually acting on them much more freely without a soul to restrain him either. He is forced to see the worst of himself played out in reality, and he's the one who feels shame for them. (Now Corpse!Jack also experiences things like self-hate and regret for his actions, but again, he seems to move on from these feelings fairly easily, coping with them instead with a "no fucks left to give" attitude, the kind of attitude someone who knows he doesn't have a future would have. A soul does not have that luxury.)
Meanwhile, though, Blackjack is also forced to see the best of himself in True!Jack; the Jack that actually worked his ass off to right his, or rather their mistakes. And also the Jack to actually be present in their siblings' lives as their brother Jack, the one that actually acts like their brother Jack, like his old self, while Blackjack seems to have either forgotten how or lost interest in doing so. It's easy to forget because DSAF is fiction, but experiencing something like what Jack has experienced is gonna leave severe trauma, and severe trauma is gonna change you pretty fundamentally whether you like it or not. Except being soulless, based on his actions and reactions, Corpse!Jack seems to have escaped much of this trauma while Blackjack is practically characterized by it. I wouldn't say Corpse!Jack is entirely unaffected by any trauma by any means (even Evil!Jack loses his shit when seeing Dee's scarf), but again, he sure seems to move on from it by shoving his negative feelings aside for later or even outright ignoring them, while Blackjack copes by feeling them and acting on them all the time. They both cope with the same issues in completely opposite unhealthy extremes.
So while Corpse!Jack is seemingly not affected enough by what happened, Blackjack is unrecognizable to himself, to anyone who could recognize him (including even Corpse!Jack himself, as Corpse!Jack doesn't realize who Blackjack is till the very end), so Blackjack takes more comfort taking on a form that isn't himself. (Instead, he takes on the form of the only family he got to send off with closure, the only family member whose death doesn't inspire some sort of Regret, hm?) He even doesn't take on his own name, preferring Blackjack over just Jack. Despite holding some contempt toward him, he still allows Corpse!Jack to keep their original name.
And he clearly does have mixed feelings toward Corpse!Jack, even toward True!Jack, as he is "proud" of him at the end of True DSAF 2, but then also spiteful toward him in True DSAF 3, and honestly that's pretty understandable, as True!Jack has done the work and reaped the rewards for redeeming himself and getting to be family with Dee and Peter again, essentially living as Jack for him, but Blackjack, despite his uninvolvement in reality or the Flipside where his family are, he is the one who faces the trauma and emotional burden of what happened to him, and it's not like Blackjack hasn't done anything either (even if what he did was misguided and ultimately harmful). It would be hard not to hold some contempt for a version of you that can move on so easily from your worst regrets and who can get to live your life where you left off for you in your name. And he's happy, and he deserves to be happy, and you aren't, and you don't deserve to be. You don't even deserve to be yourself, you've decided without realizing, because he's doing it much better than you ever could anymore anyway. He's the one who can actually save them all, he's the one who's worthy of redemption, but you? You're the only one who can make Henry face what he deserves, and by god you're gonna do it even if it costs your entire self, it's not like it's worth much anymore.
All of this is to say, yeah, Blackjack's character is perhaps a little disappointing in DSAF 3 due to lack of time to explore it after the reveal, but combined with his character in DSAF 2, he is a much more interesting and 3-dimensional character to explore than people realize. And also I think I might have ADHD. Might.
#another overly long character thoughts essay cuz it's been too long#justice for Blackjack he did everything wrong#my Jack brainrot very much extends to Blackjack because I'm a sucker for identity angst#also just like the other souls in the game Blackjack would also be stuck at age 22#and honestly yeah his actions and reactions are in line with the maturity of a 22 year old still fresh from trauma#dsaf#dayshift at freddy's#dayshift at freddys#dsaf blackjack#blackjack dsaf#jack kennedy#dsaf jack#jack dsaf#dsaf 3 spoilers

Your blog is making me want to replay Patho 2 again... I did play once on the intended difficulty, and then I replayed it afterwards on the easiest settings, doing everything and saving everyone and I'm ngl, that was some of the most fun I've ever had even though it wasn't quite in the spirit of the game haha
The so-called spirit of the game is this senior citizen wirh an overgrown 2000s anime boy haircut who shakes his cane at you sassily when you choose to only swallow a handful of razors as opposed to the razor muckbang the game offers.
I finished the game on the hardest difficulty
This was my first time playing the game ever. I straight up went to the intended difficulty, saved everyone, did everything, and never starved for a single day. I had 20+ Shmowders by the end. I was fully stocked on meat, I was fully stocked on homemade antibiotics and maxed the hospital shift each day.
All of that with only 3 Deaths
WHERE IS MY FUCKING CELEBRATION HUH? WHERE IS MY MEDAL? NO ONE THEW ME A PARTY, NO ONE INVITED BELLA HADID >:( MARK WASN'T IMPRESSED.
Fuck you Mark! ONE OF THOSE DEATHS WAS BULLSHIT YOU DUMB SLUT. YOU SPAWNED A GUY ON TOP OF ME WHILE I WAS PICKING UP HERBS, HOW THE FUCK DID HE ONE SHOT ME WITH FULL HEALTH HUH? YOU WHORE.
What I'm saying is. Look, we both finished the game on complete opposite extremes, yet we're both here. In a pathologic x reader blog on tumblr. We both had fun and shared a good understanding of the plot and characters. That's what matters. Everything else is just people patting themselves on the shoulder. You're the only one who will be impressed with the fact you beat the game flawlessly, and you're the only one who will be bothered by the fact you picked an easier difficulty
Because it's really not that different. To me, I have the kind of autism that makes games like pathologic smoother than water for me, I thrived on the ruthlessness of dark soul and did a no death run in darkest dungeon. But also. I absolutely suck at casual games, I can't play Stardew Valley unless I'm fully cheating, I can't for the life of me beat a single platforming game because I have a slow reaction speed.
Play Pathologic however you want! Ice-pick Joe isn't gonna pop from under your bed at 3am to beat you up with hammers. This is coming from the most tryhard difficulty elitism person there is in games.
Buttttt. I do recommend giving Pathologic classic HD a try. I promise anyone who beat Pathologic 2 on ANY difficultly will cuck tf out of the first game. There is no thirst! The vendors have unlimited money, and you can sell all of your trash to them! THE ECONOMY IS THRIVING I BOUGHT FOOD ON THE DAYS THE PRICES WERE SKYROCKETING BC I COULD AFFORD IT. I would've never financially recovered from buying food in P2 on any day that's not the first one. In P1, I rarely slept because I was deepthroating lemons and snorting coffee beans day and night since I could easily afford the health/hunger penalty.
Meanwhile, in P2, I'd save coffee beans to sell to get enough money to save up for army clothes.
The combat is so forgiving, the houses with good loot aren't the infected ones like in P2 but the burned ones! The AI in that game is so stupid you can trick plague clouds into disappearing if you stand still! You can glitch and jump over fences to take shortcuts through the town! YOU CAN SCAM THAT CUNT ANDREY STAMATIN FOR ENDLESS SHOTGUNS.
Lastly don't forget that 90% of the Pathologic fandom haven't even played any of the games at all. 70% probably never watched a single playthrough either and just video essays instead.
In the steam version of Pathologic 2, Only 10% of players who bought the game have ever reached the end.
10% !!! That's us there! Me and You! It doesn't matter how what matters is that we both did it while 90% of people gave up.
And the situation in the classic game is even more dire tbh-
Only 6% ever opened the game and made it through the first day. Only 3% ever made it to the last day.
So, really good on you for finishing the game! Good on me for finishing the game! WE DID IT! YAY! Someone really should give Bella Hadid a call.
Also, please do yourself a favour and ignore whatever the video essayist says about the difficulty of the games. They're good storytellers for building an interesting narrative to watch, but they're not good at videogames assessment. Each of their reasons is very personalised by their own experience and doesn't necessarily mean other people will struggle with the same issues. Don't listen to anyone who tells you picking an easy difficulty ruins the game either, Pathologic doesn't relay on its brutal gameplay to shine, it can more stand on its own as a narrative story walking game. If anything, it would probably shine better on easier difficulties when you have time to dig for context clues and plot without starvation breathing down your neck. I missed some flavour text quests because I was too stressed about balancing different objectives to do them or pay attention when something important was said.

I think we sometimes forget that that's Hollywood and our normal lives. People can say no, but that could be career-ending. I'm not saying that was the situation there, but maybe it's not that easy to say no, over there. ///
This still would be a choice.
Walk away from Hollywood for a while or …….do what we’re all witnessing now. Obviously not easy, but still a choice. 🤷🏻♀️
Morals and integrity vs money and whatever else.
Many people have left Hollywood and came back and if we’re believing Chris, he has money to fall back on for some time. He has connections, etc. He’s not some new actor trying to get established, like c’mon no more excuses. The same guy who knew Jenny was married yet still pursued her. 🙄
I don’t think Chris is the spawn of Satan, but dude has done a few things that have made me question his moral judgement. He’s still associated with that stylist and each time people have an excuse.
We might not know details, but we know enough to all agree this wasn’t a smart move, yet a multi millionaire and his professional team couldn’t see that this would be disastrous?! Does that even make sense.
I think there’s more here and it could have always been pr or real with pr or Chris better start explaining shit if he wants his fandom and popularity back.
The notion he was coerced into participating in a Hollywood PR stunt against his will is indeed more forgiving than, he purposely chose this girl.
I doubt walking away from Hollywood for like a year could've helped, and he obviously won't leave everything behind after being in the industry for 20+ years and after he's built up a career. Leaving for a year or two isn't easy as an established actor as well. It's not like any of them are irreparable. Most people don't want to get out of the cycle, especially if he, for example, had issues getting roles he'd wanted.
I don't agree with this; I never did and never will. I do think they thought they would do something about this PR mess, and then they realized it was a huge mistake. If they would've chosen a better person, maybe I wouldn't even have a problem with the fact he agreed to do a PR relationship.
I'm not saying he is broke or that he couldn't survive a year without any projects, but he still has bills to pay; he still had several houses at that point, which he needed to maintain.
I still don't get, though, why he keeps working with Ilaria. It's definitely morally questionable, and there is no excuse for that. There are so many other stylists out there; it's not like Ilaria does such a wonderful job.
I think the biggest problem was that they didn't properly check her; it's like she was this last-minute choice or someone was too lazy to do their jobs. If they'd chosen a different person, this whole thing could've been a much bigger success, with him getting whatever they wanted and him not losing this many followers. I still stand by the fact that if they knew what kind of people they are, they would've chosen someone else, because not a single person, in the right state of mind, could've thought this would be accaptable.
I'm actually interested if they will try to leak something or anything like that. I think they should try it.

Dearest Dumbasses if the Inferior kind, I urge you to invest in a journal or one way island vacation, the children beg for your sanity and your horse, a break from holding you up so high for so long.
It is with a happy, and joyous heart to see your tower of babbling nonsense come to it's inevitable conclusion as your rancid behavior involving children and child characters is being looking at and acknowledged as the unacceptable filth it is
I am so so delighted that I. your outrage you shake your canes at as it helps us do a proper headcount of how many of you support unacceptable and moral less behavior such as; incest, pro shipping, etc. it is such a shame you wish to make excuses instead of working to be better but we the SBWACS (stop being weird around children society) urge you for the betterment of humanity to stop posting(after the full headcount, we don't want to miss a single one of you)
seeing as you all have decided to embark on the 🎶toxic gossip train 🎶 we the SBWACS hope you crash into a wall. As entertaining at the ukelele would have been, the poor instrument had been disgraced enough. Judging from your support of adult x child characters the only cord you would play would be A Minor and that gets old but what never does is the younger half of your favorite ships
As a headcount let's see the stars of the show including (TW-5) Most Obvious Digital Footprint,
(Quill) Most Likely To Forgive Toxcitiy
Way to forgive and forget the wrong things
(Camelspit) Most Likely To Spit At Others And Cry When Called Out
Special thanks to the tornado warning that really wrapped this all in a weird, strange bow: Commonghost; stop it, get some help
disclaimer that I'm not trying to white knight anybody, I'm not some kind of kotlc drama messiah, I'm just a regular person with morals who doesn't appreciate people trying to turn a fun fandom space into a cesspool of people dictating what people can or can't be uncomfortable about
Whether or not you agree with calling out, pushing people around while supporting those who insist upon having their voices be the only ones listened to and allowing a fandom space for a children's series to welcome in unwelcomed topics for their own pleasure and enjoyment is wrong
Now to move away from the drama llamas;

on nesta and the inner circle
i'm not anti inner circle but i AM anti hypocrites.
to begin with;
everyone but feyre in that group is over 500 years old and they are going to war over a 25 year old. a traumatized, scared, lost 25 year old whose only crime was being mean.
this is not defending nesta's actions in the cabin, but i think many forget that she was also a child. as the youngest in my family, if at any point my parents passed during my childhood, it is sure as fuck not my brother's responsibility to parent me.
elain was just as guilty as nesta was elain and unlike nesta, did not follow feyre into the woods.
the IC, and a lot of, imo toxic acotar fans, forgive and ove her. not because she did no wrong, but because she is soft, submissive, and easy to control.
feyre's triology is first person and incredibly biased.
please reread acotar and how she described rhysand.
reread the START of acomaf and how she described rhys to tamlin and lucien. it is stated MULTIPLE times indirectly that she is a young, biased, narrator.
nesta being expected to get over her trauma, trauma that horrified rhys once he saw it, in less than a year is crazy. especially when you remember that everyone else is over 500 fucking years old.
a lot of anti nesta people argue that due to nesta being the eldest, she should've taken initaive, but they will defend 500 year old fae for literal war crimes.
the argument isn't that nesta was perfect, she wasn't. the argument that taking away a traumatized woman's autonomy, when that was the source of her trauma, humiliating her, and villainizing her for reactionary comments, while ignoring all she's sacrificed is wrong.
i've seen a lot of people say pro nesta fans must be abusers.
i'm pro nesta and i survived being strangled and stalked by a physically and emotionally abusive man. i know what abuse is and while nesta was toxic, she was never abusive. the most anyone could ever try to claim was she was reactionary abusive as the majority of her harsh comments were in response. especially in the context of the world this is made in.
i have a lot more to go off on, but honestly i'm in a sci fi feminst class rn and should be focusing on my lecture since i'm usually one of the main debaters.
rhys and nesta are mirrors of each other, but one is a man with bat wings people can fetishize, and the other is a woman who isn't afraid to make her voice known.
i love rhys and i love nesta, but i hate how this fandom allows internalized misogyny to poison them.
#pro nesta#acotar#nesta archeron#sarah j maas#acomaf#rhysand#inner circle#pls get some media literacy#or therapy#both is good#the imaginary men with wings are NOT going to pick you#acotar fandom

Please Don't Hate Me
Fandom: Hogwarts Legacy (Video Game) Relationships: Sylvan & Sylvia (MC & MC) Summary : Sylvan finally snapped and Sylvia suffered. Notes : I'm procrastinating on a potential multi-chaptered AU, so I started brainrotting this💀 Warnings : No beta cuz I die like Ranrok's Loyalists. And I'm supposed to be asleep by now, so expect all the errors before I get around to edit this.
Sometimes, it’s difficult to remember that they both were meant to be the alternates of the same person.
They became a set—inseparable and incomplete without the other.
It’s too easy to forget and be consumed by the delusion. Sylvia has been living as Sylvan’s twin for a decade. It was a decade of them being together. It was a decade of being practically joined to the hips.
Sylvia knew nothing of love before Sylvan.
Sylvia has never felt warmth before Sylvan.
Before Sylvan, Sylvia hadn’t known that living was okay—that being alive is not a sin.
It's too easy to indulge in the delusion of a family that Sylvia easily forgot her roots and origins—forgetting the parents she surely had killed in the incident that sent her into his life—as she took the joy of what was once fully his.
His toys. His snacks. His cat. His parents.
His childhood as the only child in a loving family.
He shared his life with her, and she deluded herself into believing she deserved everything he offered.
It took ten years, but Sylvan finally snapped. He finally has had enough of her taking his rights
“Haven’t you taken enough from me?”
Sylvia hiccupped, backing away to maintain their distance, nearly toppling over in her scramble away from the only person across the multiverse whose love she wasn't willing to lose.
They were two versions of the same person, born into different worlds of opposing circumstances, united by the fickle whims of fate and destiny. Sylvan was what Sylvia could have been had her parents loved each other. Sylvan was what Sylvia could have been had her lack of magic in a purebred bloodline was embraced with love rather than disdain.
Sylvan was what Sylvia could have been had her existence was celebrated rather than disregarded.
They were different versions of the same person, born into two different worlds of contrasting storylines.
Sylvan is her, and Sylvia is him.
Losing his love would be soul-crushing.
How could anyone love her if her own alternate self hated her?
"Syl—" she tried, peeking at him through wet lashes, begging now.
For what? She did not know. All that she knew, she had to beg—be it for forgiveness or simply for a shred of mercy, Sylvia did not know.
She couldn't lose him.
Not when he's the only one she had left.
But his—her—eyes were cold, glinting with regret and hatred. His easy-going grin was gone, now replaced with a disdainful scowl.
Sylvia saw the ghost of her mother in his eyes. She saw the shadow of her father in that scowl.
Sylvia saw the people who hated her the most in the very person who she most treasured and she immediately froze.
"I'm sorry," she whispered, her wand hitting the marble floor with a dull thud.
There were buzzes of noise around her—muddled, muffled voices—but she couldn't tear her eyes away from Sylvan's face.
She couldn't tear her gaze away from his cold face.
"Forgive me," she tried again, scrambling to get onto her knees, desperate for a shred of mercy even if she had to grovel by his feet for it.
"Sylvie."
Her nickname pierced through the despair shrouding her like a sword. It came from behind her, spearing through the muffled buzzes of noise that surrounded her. It was familiar—warm and loving—and so very Sylvan.
But Sylvan hadn't moved at all. He loomed over her, cold gaze unyielding as he stared down to hold her teary gaze in an accusatory glare, the curl of his lips grew more hateful and livid.
"Sylvie, come on."
His voice sounded nearer now. It was as if he was right there behind her—as if he would close the distance and pull her into his comforting hug any moment from now.
Yet, Sylvan remained unmoving in front of her.
It was enough of a lifeline though.
Sylvia scrambled for her discarded wand, meeting his gaze with the bravado she didn't have mere seconds prior.
"Riddikulus!"
With that desperate shout, Sylvan exploded into a poof of white smoke, from which a plushie resembling him fell, bouncing unceremoniously on the floor.
Sylvia shakily exhaled the breath she didn't realise she was holding. Her body trembled, heavy wet lashes blinked furiously as her gaze remained fixed on the plushie. She barely had the time to wipe the remnants of her tears away before she was picked up off the floor and spun around, tucked in Sylvan's familiar embrace.
"Good job!"
His laughter was comforting—warm and brimming with love as it has always been—and Sylvia broke apart right there in his arms, burying her face at the crook of his neck, uncaring of the fact that noticeable wet spots had formed on the fabric of his shirt.
"Don't hate me," she pleaded, voice trembling and barely above a whisper, still reeling from the boggart—still so very terrified. "Please."
"Never, " he assured, and Sylvia practically melted at the brush of his lips over her temple. "I'll never hate you."
"Thank you," she murmured as the tiniest of smiles spread across her face, one that she hid behind her hair when she brushed a kiss on his forehead shortly before she was released to stand on her own
"Of course," he beamed at her, stepping forward for his turn with the boggart, tilting his head back to grin at her, mouthing, "You're mine to love forever, Sylvie."
THE END
P/S: I actually want to write both of their boggarts but the trauma I gave Sylvia decided to rear its ugly head and I got distracted.
Anyhoo who wants to see Sylvan's boggart? 👀👀

I think the reason people, myself included at first I'll admit, are/got so hype for missing sis' design is because it's a 'canon' (I can't remember how canon the comics are) appearance of a character reveal that was planned to happen in Rise but we never got. Now that my hype has gone down I'm disappointed too :(. I'm semi-willing to forgive the snatched waist she has because Leo has it too. I do think the face marking are cool though
Yeah I do appreciate the facial markings, they're a different enough shape from Leo's (and the fanon ones the others often get) that they stand out nicely. The idea of a flame-like pattern that doesn't seem to be fully symetrical is very cool. But honestly? It's one of the few things I like about her face reveal/comic design, the rest I'm neutral on or mildly annoyed by.
this next part got ranty, so I'm just gonna put it under a read more. Absolutely nobody has to read this lol. TLDR I get heated about the design for Big Mama's Assistant in the comic.
I do want to clarify upfront, most of my issues are with the design of Big Mama's Assistant (Venus/Frida) as shown in the comic specifically. Given that it does not (and isn't meant to) fit into the show's artstyle, it's possible that her show design would have looked different. But the fact remains that this might be the closest we ever get to having an actual canon design of her.
And... it's not all that great a design in my opinion.
(That said, I do still like the markings that she's given in that design. Those are cool. Thumbs up.)
My main issue is with how there's so many little details intended to scream "I am a Girl Character that's G-I-R-L and don't you forget it". Like, I genuinely hope that's not the design she was supposed to have in the show, because it feels like it's being almost shoved in your face that This Is A Girl.
The traits I've noticed so far:
She has lips. Or possibly lipstick, but in either case the appearance of lips. None of the other (male) turtles have lips, but all the important female characters in Rise do.
She has heavy eyeliner/mascara, as in the upper line of her eye is noticeably thicker. Yes the boys look like they have winged eyeliner at some points, but hers is much heavier.
This is more subtle, but she seems to have larger pupils than the other (male) characters in the comic, giving her something of a doe-eyed look.
Her plastron shape has been rounded out/simplified, giving her the appearance of boobs and an hourglass figure. (Interesting note here: in the show, the male turtles have comparable or perhaps larger sized bumps in their plastrons. Yes there's a slight difference in shape, but it defintely doesn't look like she has boobs in the show.)
They made her have an obviously lighter skin tone than the other turtles. Yes it may well be a result of dramatic lighting, but enough people have taken it as her canon skin tone that it still counts.
Long story short, all these items are things often used in visual media (especially in cartoons) to code male and female animal characters as, well, male and female. And it's important to note, most of the time this coding is *completely divorced* from the sexual dimorphism actually seen in those species. We can speculate all we want on if she's wearing makeup or not, but the fact remains that turtles don't have lips or cinched waists. She doesn't *need* all that to emphasize that she's a girl. Even just two or three of these traits would be fine!
(And while I also have issues with the whole "you have a brother and sister" thing when it was previously discussed as being two sisters, maybe it would have been fun to see a design that gave us a little more room to debate if this was a brother or a sister. Yeah we'd heard from the creators that Big Mama's assistant was a girl, but that's also where we heard that the turtles had two sisters.)
It also kind of bothers me a bit to see the fandom response, in that there's a lot of people who are taking the design as is I guess? And sure, there's plenty of people who *aren't* drawing her as is and remove some of the intense girl coding, but there's also people who do draw her as close to the comic design as possible. And while there's nothing automatically wrong with that, I do hope those people are at the very least aware of the tropes that her design falls into.
Now to perhaps the more controversial part of this post outside of just the visual tropes she falls into. For me personally, there's nothing (outside her markings) that makes the face reveal all that interesting design-wise? And there's basically nothing that indicates anything about her personality.
She wears makeup. So what? Not only is that the societal standard for women and girls in real life, it's basically the standard for how female characters in Rise are designed. It's also a hugely common design element of female animal characters. It tells us nothing about her, except, again, she's a girl.
Her outfit is the same as canon, so there's no new information there.
Her expression is carefully neutral, and doesn't really tell us anything. Heck, everyone else in the scene is having more of a reaction than she is. The other turtles have shocked expressions and Big Mama is angry. Venus... has her eyes open I guess? There's a lack of expression on her part in an otherwise very expressive comic.
And (again in my opinion) her design honestly isn't particularly unique. She has a face shape relatively similar to Mikey's (the main different being his chin is rounded and hers is pointed) and she has facial markings like Leo. And while it's not a bad thing that her design resembles the other turtles given that she's supposed to be related to them, many of the design traits that make her stand out are the Girl Design Traits.
It's also worth pointing out that there's a very specific way Rise draws important female characters, with them all having similar body types and facial details, and this design plays right into that. It's a further example of a Rise girl/woman who's thin with a small waist and lips and a small nose and no obvious musculature. There's been other posts that break this down more than I'm going to here, but the design for Big Mama's Assistant just... continues all that.
And I don't have a problem with characters looking feminine, but when they're all feminine in similar ways, it gets a little... boring? Even a little body type diversity would have been nice (like giving Casey muscles instead of the same slender arms as everyone else, for example.) The assistant doesn't have to follow the same pattern (she's an entirely different species, for one), but she does.
And in some ways it's like, yeah, we got to have confirmation that she's a character. She exists. Hooray. She said nothing and she did nothing besides take off her mask. We all knew there was gonna be a face under there anyway! And seeing her finally appear in canon, only to be drawn using so many visual cues to show her as The Girl Turtle is... a little underwhelming, I think.
But the fact that I've already got a design for Venus/Frida is probably also a factor here. I'm more attached to my design and I like it better lol. Rant over.
#asks#bambi's rambling#rottmnt#rottmnt venus#rottmnt frida#big mama's assistant#rottmnt spoilers#rise comic spoilers#tmnt 40th anniversary#tmnt 40th anniversary spoilers#long story short the design here doesn't exist in isolation#either from existing visual tropes or from how rise designs plot relevant/ important female characters

I hope I'm not pestering you at this point, but when exactly do you think he changed his idea of what being the number 1 meant to the extent that he no longer cared about the actually title? Because I got the impression that he'd accepted his weakness when compared to Midoriya under the condition that he would surpass him in the future, based on what he said during the War when trying to keep up with Deku. I kind of thought his visceral reaction to failing to truly damage Shigaraki, and him embracing the damage his awakening was doing to himself to kind of imitate Deku and the power he achieved with his self-sacrificial mindset, kinda supported that. How off am I?
Sorry if I'm making you repeat things you've said.
Oh, you're not off at all. Forgive me, I did not originally understand your meaning in the first question:
Do you think there's going to be a moment where Bakugou comes to terms with the fact that he might never be the number 1 the way he wanted? I can see the story is going on a "save to win" route, but I've been curious about how him realizing his most powerful attacked only grazed Shigaraki will play out.
I thought by not being "the number 1 the way he wanted," you meant his original idea of it from the beginning of the series--the "win no matter what" mentality without a thought for saving anybody. I see now you meant something different.
It sounds like you were asking if Katsuki will ever face the possibility that he may never surpass Izuku or be able to reach Izuku's level when it comes to firepower, that Katsuki may be in Endeavor's situation (not with Endeavor's mindset though) where he constantly sees how wide the gap between them is and must reconcile with that, that Katsuki may have to settle on a "number one" where he surpasses Izuku not with his own strength but only with help from others (i.e. teamwork).
To which I must say, uh, western fans, we gotta talk.
Anon, you may not be guilty of harboring the idea I'm about to challenge, but I see this one particular sentiment all over the place in the English-speaking fandom, and I really need to make something clear to everyone:
Horikoshi has never stated there is an upper limit on any character's power growth potential--NOT EVEN IZUKU'S.
Don't get confused by the "100% One For All" thing. That's a measure of how much of One For All Izuku is USING. It's meant to compare with how much power All Might could use at 100%--but Izuku's real 100% will be different. One For All didn't just get more powerful by being passed on. Each user before Izuku, including notably Shinomori, cultivated and improved the power. Izuku will do so too. His current 100% is not his end-all-be-all 100% over the course of his life. Izuku can train and work hard and grow and make One For All stronger, too.
And Izuku isn't the only one who can do this. Anyone, Katuski included, can improve their quirk. They don't have some set 100% limit they can't increase with enough effort.
To which you might say: okay, but realistically, there is SOME upper limit to that, right?
But actually...no. This is manga/anime, not real life. And shounen manga is particularly notorious for its focus on effort and improvement through hard work. This is a time-honored tradition of the genre dating all the way back to Son Goku of Dragonball (and probably even further back too). The upper limits of Goku's power growth become so absolutely ludicrous as his series carries on and needs him to grow stronger--SO HE JUST GETS STRONGER. That's like the EPITOME of what he is: someone who wants to get stronger so he works to get stronger and, lo and behold, he gets stronger!
And lest we forget, Horikoshi has named Goku as one of his ideals of a "hero," as one of the characters from whom All Might (and by extension Katsuki) takes inspiration.
You know how each generation of quirks has greater potential than the last? This is a direct parallel of One For All's evolution. It showcases that ALL quirks have the ability to evolve into something powerful just like One For All did; it's just a matter of what the quirk user does with it. And each generation can cultivate their quirk and pass it along to get even stronger too. If you want to be a real stickler about how maybe only CERTAIN generations of quirks could surpass One For All, sure, fine, whatever (actually not fine but I'll deal with this later*). We don't know which generation of quirk users Katsuki falls into, and there's a real chance he doesn't know either. But he was born in the same generation as Izuku, so there's no reason his quirk can't be of a ninth generation too. So, he has every reason to believe he could become just as strong as Izuku. He always believed he could surpass All Might, after all.
*Okay let's deal with this little nugget now. Does the ordinal generation of Katsuki's quirk really matter? Not really. Izuku's power was cultivated by many as a theme, but he acknowledges his is a strength made from others'. That doesn't make One For All inherently the best quirk ever, just that it was able to become so strong BECAUSE of others. If the others had done nothing with it, it wouldn't have become so powerful. MHA acknowledges there are other important and good ways of improving one's power: through hard work and effort. It's not that one form of cultivation is absolutely better than the other, just that they both have their uses--and that BOTH TOGETHER would be the best route to improve one's power. This ties into how Japan traditionally views talent and intelligence as products of hard work and improvement in contrast to how the west traditionally views these things as inherent and set at birth. If you're unaware, the Japanese word for "quirk," kosei, translates to "individuality/personality." Individuality/personality is also one of those traits a person has that can be seen as inherent or cultivated--but really it's a product of BOTH. The question of nature versus nurture, as always, is answered with "well actually, both nature and nurture play a part."
(If you want to go off on a tangent with this, go read whatever is the latest version of @siflshonen's Katsuki Bakugou powerpoint presentation on their blog at the time you are reading this.)
Now, I told you all that to tell you this:
Katsuki should never have to face the idea that he will never be able to be number 1 because it's simply not true.
Katsuki has every potential to surpass Izuku. If Izuku were to be satisfied with his quirk's growth and call it quits, Katsuki's quirk's growth would eventually outshine his GUARANTEED. It's because Katsuki is that kind of character, and this is demonstrated in spades throughout the entire manga. Gosh, remember when Izuku said he was only using 8% of OFA in Deku vs Kacchan, Part 2? Remember how the fandom assumed he would dwarf everyone else in comparison as he progressed further down the line?
And remember how Katsuki "grit his teeth to keep from falling behind"?
Everyone's always going on about how Izuku's power will someday eclipse everyone else's, but he's had that monstrous OFA power with him all along since he got it. He just has to improve his BODY to match OFA's power. Has no one really put any thought to how absolutely BATSHIT it is that Katsuki kept up with him? After Katsuki's growth had stalled for so long?
Remember, Izuku's raw power surpassed Katsuki's in DvK2. So by the time of the Paranormal Liberation War, Katsuki developed his quirk to match OFA at 30% in the same amount of time it took Izuku just to develop his body to handle that much OFA. If we're gonna get into the western versions of power-scaling where we care about natural limits...
THE HEIGHTS OF KATSUKI'S "NATURAL" LIMITS ARE EMPIRICALLY ASTRONOMICALLY INSANE.
So, I come back to something you said:
I kind of thought his visceral reaction to failing to truly damage Shigaraki, and him embracing the damage his awakening was doing to himself to kind of imitate Deku and the power he achieved with his self-sacrificial mindset, kinda supported that.
...and to something I said:
But if you mean he'll reconcile with how his firepower compares to TomurAFO's, I'd say, uh, keep an eye out, because already he's had a quirk upgrade since he tried his Howitzer Cluster on TomurAFO. It's very likely that is no longer the upper limit of his capabilities. And that's just assuming he hasn't achieved any other power ups yet/won't get another one soon.
Katsuki's Howitzer Impact Cluster vs TomurAFO was a single snapshot in time. Katsuki has already had a quirk upgrade since then, and as you so aptly pointed out, he's had a sort of philosophical/meta upgrade too as he emulated Izuku. I doubt these will be the last improvements he experiences in his life. He was always held back from surpassing Izuku by the story because he was missing such a huge part of being a hero: saving people. But that's been resolved now. He and Izuku will be rivals who challenge each other to be better for the rest of their lives, and I doubt either one of them will ever truly pull away from the other in terms of raw potential (at least not for long). Katsuki may have instances of self-doubt, of course. He even may at some point acknowledge Izuku as his superior. But I don't think that's a reason for him to ever lose hope or give up. I think there's plenty of reason for anyone to believe it's possible for him to surpass Izuku someday. After all, All Might was considered the best hero of his age not because of his strength but because of his spirit.
And Katsuki's sure got a shitton of spirit.

I was formulating an essay-style response to that steaming pile of garbage in my head while I watched it but then I realized I'd rather enjoy my holiday and stop thinking about that bastard forever
If this is really his last word on the matter, we're probably never going to get the whole truth, but this whole debacle has confirmed just how miserable his fandom was for me - if not forced by outsiders to apologize for shit that does not matter and that you had no part in, then you're surrounded by people spreading some of the most vile victim-blaming rhetoric you've ever seen for a guy who does not and cannot care about them individually no matter how much he presents himself otherwise.
I won't forget seeing "she was 17.95 so it doesn't matter" from someone I thought was a friend. I won't forget the cutesy little nicknames you came up with to avoid the congitive stress of your precious guy being an accused groomer. I won't forget the harassment you little shits openly confessed to with no remorse. I won't forget how you laughed at victims for being emotional about a potential betrayal, or dictated what a real victim should look like. I won't forget and I'm certainly not ready to forgive. I'm not forgiving the people who mocked and belittled you for harmless fun once, either; they're as much responsible for the sour state of things as the man they hated before they were given a viable excuse. Whatever the reason, this place became a black hole and I don't want to even be close to it.
It's not worth it. I'm done. I'm not talking about that motherfucker ever again, and please, hold me to that this time.

Hiii Tumblr! So I'm a new user and in the COD fandom and I had some cool ideas for Simon Riley x reader but I don't know any authors who wouldn't mind writing them (and I'm kinda shy about asking any cuz I feel like my ideas would get most likely ignored but here we go) and anyway, here they are:
1. I've never seen it anywhere but what about England's Prince Simon Riley x Algerian princess! Reader, around the Ottoman Algeria era, where the King (Simon's dad) wanted to conquer Algeria but everytime he tried to he lost the battles against them (kinda happened irl in that era before the destruction of the Algerian naval in Navarin Battle) sooo..... The King asked his Ministers opinion on the matter and they offered to make truce with the Algerian Dey so they thought about an arrange marriage between his son (Simon) and the Dey's daughter ( the reader) and he thought it though and proposed it to the Dey and he accepted..... (Whoever wants to write this idea please continue the story with your own creative beautiful creativity!)
2. What about a Albino Reader x bully Simon Riley (highschool au)?
3. Gangsta!Simon Riley x Innocent Baker! Reader (forgive me, I just like reading those)
But anyway, I hope I don't sound cringe but feel free to leave a comment about my ideas (just be respectful please) whether you're going to use them or not, I would like to have some feedback about those ideas I get on my daily maladaptive daydreaming sessions I get
(PS: don't forget to stay healthy and love yourself! ❤️)
