I have brought my friends into fire, their bodies are filled with scars and blemishes of pain that I have caused. My body is clean. It is smooth and clear. It has felt such immense pain, but it shows no signs. I have friends who don't recognize themselves in mirrors and shy away from the light that used to make them shine. But I still see the same person staring back at me; I just can’t manage to look her in the eye. Water and blood have been spilled over all of us and we are slowly suffocating. I am filling this pool with my tears and scooping the liquid out with my hands. I have the experience of an ancient in the body of a teenager and somehow I am still not able to save anyone, let alone myself. These eyes have seen the worst of mankind and then have been expected to forgive and forget. I am treated like a glass statue one moment and the next like the shards that have fallen on the ground. My body is failing and I am exhausted, but to quit is to fail, and to fail is to die and I can’t be the reason for more scars on my family's lives.
