“What was the last show I watched? Oh! Spencer and I just started watching The Bear!”

“Who are you talking to?” Spencer walked into the living room, coming up from behind the couch to see you on a livestream.

“Just doing a live… wanna join?”

He gave you a nod before sitting down, eyes scanning the comments. You continued to answer the ones you could catch a glimpse of, but as soon as Spencer came into frame, the comments were going at an insane speed.

“That is completely not true.”

His sudden comment made your head turn towards him with furrowed eyebrows, “what, babe?”

“Someone commented that the only reason you're ‘popping off’ right now is because of me… they said this is why men are superior, which is such a stuck mindset.”

“Spence, it’s okay–”

“But it's not.” His eyes fired up and he turned towards you, grabbing your hand and rubbing his thumb in soothing circles. “You were doing extremely well before we even met. When we started dating you had a significant amount of loyal followers. Their opinion on men being superior is also a disgusting comment. Women have to work twice as hard as a man to get to where they are due to patriarchal norms, so if anything, their resilience is respectable and makes them superior.”

You stared at him for a minute, not really knowing what to say.

“Are you okay?”

His concern brought you back down to Earth, and you leaned forward to press your lips together, not caring about the livestream. When you separated, you ran your fingers through his hair, giving him a smile. “I love you. Thank you for that; I’ve never had someone stick up for me like that before.”

“I didn't want you to be hurt…”

Pouting at his words, your hands fell to grasp his and give them a squeeze. “I don't think I could ever get hurt when you're around.” And you were telling the truth. As long as Spencer was in your life, you would be happy and feel nothing but protected.

Jimin and I said our goodbyes and I promised the blue haired boy I would call him in the morning to set up another meet up. He called it a group date, something neither Jimin nor I disagreed with, but it did make me feel queasy. Depending on how our conversation goes, we may never spend time together outside of training. I felt like I was going to vomit.

“Let me drive?” Jimin murmured as we parted ways with the couple. 

I nodded, digging in my purse to find them. “Mind reader, I swear. Get out of my head, kid.”

He snickered, “Who says you weren’t in mine, granny”

The queasiness dissipated and I felt like I could breathe a little bit easier now. Being alone with Jimin had never felt this nerve wracking before, not even the first time we met, and it was hard to explain all of the thoughts and feelings going through my head. We were finally having the talk, but I had never imagined it going this way. Handing him the keys, I elbowed him in the ribs.

“Whoops,” I mocked. “You know me and my bad eyesight, kiddo.”

“Watch it,” He hissed, rubbing the spot. “Don’t want you breaking anything. You know you have frail bones.”

I laughed, “Don’t make me give you a knuckle sandwich, punk.”

Sliding into the passenger seat felt less daunting after the light hearted exchange. Still, my blood was pumping as Jimin clicked his seatbelt in place. I had no idea when the conversation would shift into murkier waters, but I needed to start thinking about what to say to him. 

Denying my feelings would only make things worse, and I did not think the younger man would believe me. In fact, he would be offended that I thought he was dumb enough to get bamboozled in the first place. Lying did not seem like the right call anyway. My feelings were not something to feel ashamed about, but they were very frightening. 

“When is later?”

I gasped, startled out of my thoughts. We had been driving for over ten minutes already. Time seemed to slip by when I was lost in my own head. Jimin apologized for scaring me but repeated the question once I reassured him that I was fine.

“Now,” I mumbled. “I guess later is now.”

Hey there! I just found these preview pages from volume 38, though I'm not sure what they say and if they're legit. Wondering if you've seen them as well?

These first pages usually show the characters that are going to be in the volume. What stood out to me is that Gon is there as well! Now, from a quick translation from the internet, it basically says that he's unable to see aura and he's on a homecoming (?) trip. Then on the bottom there is a synopsis on what has happened so far in the manga. Does this mean we'll see Gon in the upcoming chapters? I'm trying to not get my hopes up but...

So, you may already know this, but I want to make it clear first that Volume 38 will only contain chapters that have already been released (391-400)--so Gon definitely won't be appearing in the chapters collected in Volume 38. These are the chapters we got back in the end of 2022, before Togashi went on the hiatus that will be ending in October. Typically the previous 10 chapters are only collected into a volume and released around the same time more chapters are about to come out, so that's why this volume is only being released now.

Also, Gon has been listed in the character summary page throughout the Succession War arc as far as I recall, so, it's nice that he's still included but it unfortunately isn't a change from previous volumes, where he also never appeared.

While Gon being on the cover was a welcome surprise that I'm very happy about, I don't think either it or the character introduction page are strong signs of his impending return. However, Togashi clearly doesn't want us to forget about him, and is reminding us that he's still one of the main characters of the series, so I think it's a great sign for the series going back to him over the longer term!!

HxH is very unpredictable, so Gon could technically return at any time, whenever Togashi deems the story has come to that point. However, with how many characters and plot points are being juggled in Succession War, I personally am not anticipating his return particularly soon. We could get a cameo or small scene or something, but I don't think there's a lot of space to go back into his character arc quite yet. I think we may still need to wait a while before he's part of the story again, but I do think it's coming at some point--perhaps at the end of this arc, or when the story does a major shift.

Gon does have ties to the Dark Continent, with Ging and his presumed ancester Don Freecss being both being connected to it, and Killua does as well, via Nanika, so I think when the Dark Continent itself becomes more prominent in the series, it's possible we'll see them return to the story. But as usual, it's hard to predict what Togashi has up his sleeve. I am confident we'll see them again, though, and all the focus Togashi has put on especially Gon this year (with all his tweets of art of him, this cover, etc.), I'm sure Gon will be back when the time is right!

Jonah- That's right, it was yuck. Although, not terrible with enough seasoning. The portions were just really small. I did catch Sasha with more than a few half-eaten uncooked rats, but that was also something we didn't share with Mommy. She didn't understand when I had my fangy fangs that sometimes those things tasted better raw. I don't get fangy fangs anymore, so you don't have to worry about that.

Jonah- I know, its a loss. I was VERY good with bed sports when I had my fangy fangs. <sighs> The things we miss in retrospect. I don't miss the shedding, but I'm pretty sure I could have lured her back if I did still have them. She couldn't resist it.

Not reading Homestuck anymore. This is now a blog where I talk about all my favorite video game characters, like Solid Snake from Metal Gear, or Chell from Portal, or Jean Forrester from KIng's Field, or-

ok in that case I can still talk about Homestuck.

I'm extremely curious on if John feels physically different inside Sburb. Some elements of his surroundings are sustained by the game - such as the wifi - and we don't know if, for example, John still needs to eat and sleep. He still has physical limitations (he can't wield the sledgehammer) but that's just his strength stat now. And what about sound cues, which are really common in video games but don't seem to exist for John, given how there's no enemy alert sound before the shale imp sneaks up on him? (I love how the screen pixelates at this moment - especially with the imp being so colorful vs everything else's black and white, it's a very cool effect).

Does Showtime begin playing out loud for him when the shale imp engages him in combat? Is he like 'whoa, that's my song, Sburb is playing my song?' Sburban Jungle, which played during the game's installation, is the closest thing we know of to a generic Sburb theme tune - but Sburb is intelligent in some way and responsive to its player, so is it possible that the game has picked up the music from John's piano and is incorporating it into the game?

The shale imp holding the bunny hostage is a direct recreation of the Con Air scene linked from p.20, except John is not a badass Nic Cage, he's a kid with no fighting experience. Aside from the reference, I wonder if there's a reason the imp is so interested in the bunny, and if it has some value to the game enemies. They're probably not big movieheads, but there could be something hidden inside it? Or it could be the most obvious item that John's emotionally attached to, and the game is trying to manipulate him.

I am thinking again about who made Sburb and what their goals and intentions were with this game. Is this just a negligent 'look what technology makes possible' deal or are they trying to kidnap people into their game world for some end? If so, is that just opportunistic, taking whoever happens to figure out the game best,or did they invite specific people to beta test because the designers want something with them specifically? Now that John is fully immersed in the game world I need to sit down and look for more clues about Sburb itself.

Also John's data structures book looks like complete trash, but I bet Dave would think it's genius. It finally, perfectly explains why Dave's room is furnished with cinderblocks - he's used them to weaponize his sylladex. New headcanon that Dave bought John this book for his birthday last year.

“Ugh. Uuugghh…”

“Baby?”

He sinks in his seat, running his face with both hands “I swear,I know I fly jets but my god,” he adjusts himself, his legs were too long and he was too broad for this seat, “It’s like they get smaller every year.”

‘Roos, you are a big guy.” she smiles sweetly, seeing her husband try to get comfortable before the airplane takes off, “You’ll fill…a bit more.”

Rooster chuckled weakly, his discomfort evident as he shifted in his seat once again. "Yeah, but it feels like I'm being squished," he replied, his voice strained, "I miss the spaciousness… of places.”

Beatrice reached out to gently rub Rooster's shoulder, "I'm sorry, honey," she murmured sympathetically, "Flying commercial is never as comfortable as flying a jet, I imagine."

Rooster nodded in agreement, his expression resigned as he settled back into his seat. "Yeah, you're right," he admitted with a sigh, "But I'll endure it for your."

 "You're a trooper, Roos," she said softly, "And I promise, once we land, you'll have all the space you need to stretch out and relax." she looks down at her phone, “Talked to Mav too, he said the kids and the dogs did great. Of course, there isn’t much they do,you know.”

“Hm,true.” he finally settles, “...I miss them a lot, you think they got bigger since we left?”

“...honey,we’ve been away for three days.”

"I know, I know," he admitted with a smile, "But they grow so fast. Sometimes it feels like I blink and they've grown another inch."

Beatrice smiled back at Rooster, "I'm sure they've missed us just as much as we've missed them," she replied reassuringly, "And I bet they'll be thrilled to see us when we get back."

"Yeah, you're probably right," Rooster agreed with a nod, a sense of longing evident in his voice, "I can't wait to hold them in my arms again."

Beatrice reached out to take Rooster's hand in hers, giving it a gentle squeeze. "It won't be long now," she said softly, "Just a few more hours and we'll be back home with our family."

After a few minutes, the captain's voice came over the intercom, announcing that they would be taking off shortly. Rooster tightened his grip on Beatrice's hand, feeling a surge of excitement mixed with a tinge of nervousness.

"Here we go," he murmured softly, his eyes fixed on the window as the plane taxied down the runway.

Beatrice squeezed Rooster's hand reassuringly, offering him a warm smile. "This was fun,right? This trip to Virginia.”

Rooster returned Beatrice's smile,"Yeah, it was," he agreed softly, "Virginia holds a lot of memories for me, both good and bad. But being there with you... it made it all worth it."

Beatrice nodded in understanding, her heart swelling with affection for her husband. "I'm glad we went," she said sincerely, "It was important for both of us…you feeling better? Especially because of the reunion and such?”

"Yeah, I do feel better," he replied honestly, "And being able to visit my parents' graves...it was hard, but it brought me some peace. And having you by my side made it easier."

Beatrice smiled softly. "I'm glad I could be there for you," she said softly, "You mean everything to me, Roos. I just want to see you happy."

Rooster leaned over to press a gentle kiss to Beatrice's cheek, his lips lingering against her skin. "I am happy, Bea," he murmured against her cheek, "Because I have you. You make me happy,gorgeous.”

Beatrice's eyes shimmered with tears at Rooster's words, feeling overwhelmed with emotion. She wrapped her arms around him, pulling him close as they shared a moment of quiet intimacy.

"I love you, Roos," she whispered, her voice filled with love, "I don’t want to cry on the plane.”

“Sorry,gorgeous.” he chuckles, gently wiping her tear with the back of his finger, “Didn’t mean to. And don't apologize, Bea," he murmured softly, "Your tears are precious to me. They remind me of how much you care."

Beatrice smiled through her tears, feeling grateful for Rooster's understanding and support. She leaned into his touch, savoring the warmth of his hand against her skin. "Thank you, Roos," she whispered, her voice filled with emotion.

They sat together in silence for a while longer, their hands intertwined as they watched the world pass by outside the window. The hum of the plane's engines filled the cabin, lulling them into a sense of peace and contentment.

After a while, Beatrice leaned back in her seat, feeling a sense of exhaustion wash over her. She closed her eyes, allowing herself to relax into the familiar rhythm of the plane's movements.

Rooster watched Beatrice with a fond smile, feeling grateful for the opportunity to share this moment with her. He reached out to gently brush a strand of hair away from her face, his touch light and tender.

"You should get some rest, gorgeous," he murmured softly, "We still have a few hours until we land."

Beatrice nodded sleepily, ‘Are you going to sleep too?”

Rooster shook his head with a small smile, "I'll keep watch over you, make sure you're comfortable," he replied softly, "Then maybe I'll take a nap too."

Beatrice smiled gratefully at Rooster, feeling a wave of warmth wash over her at his words. She leaned into his touch, her exhaustion starting to catch up with her as she closed her eyes.

"Thank you, Roos," she murmured softly, her voice barely above a whisper, "You're the best."

Rooster's heart swelled with love for the woman beside him, feeling grateful for the opportunity to take care of her. He pressed a tender kiss to Beatrice's forehead before settling back into his seat, keeping a watchful eye on her as she drifted off to sleep.

As the plane cruised through the night sky, Rooster sat quietly beside Beatrice, lost in his thoughts.Despite the cramped quarters and the discomfort of flying commercial, Rooster couldn't imagine being anywhere else but here, by Beatrice's side

The hours passed by, Rooster found himself reflecting on their trip to Virginia. It had been an emotional journey, one filled with both sorrow and joy. But through it all, he had felt a sense of healing, a sense of closure that he hadn't felt in years.

Visiting his parents' graves had been difficult, but it had also been cathartic. And the reunion…was bearable.

Rooster smiled to himself as he thought about the future, about the possibility of having a place in Virginia with Beatrice. It was a comforting thought, knowing that they could create new memories together in a place that held so much meaning for him.

But for now, Rooster was content to simply be here, in this moment, with Beatrice by his side. He reached out to gently brush a stray hair away from her face, his touch light and tender as he watched her sleep.

"You're my everything, Bea," he whispered softly, his voice filled with love, "And I'll always be here for you, no matter what."

She smiles in her sleep.

Eventually he fell asleep too.

The hum of the plane's engines filled area, creating a soothing background noise as Rooster and Beatrice slept peacefully.

Hours passed by, Rooster stirred from his slumber, feeling a sense of warmth and contentment wash over him as he blinked away the remnants of sleep. He glanced over at Beatrice, still sound asleep beside him, her breathing steady and even.

A smile tugged at the corners of Rooster's lips as he watched his wife,he reached out to gently stroke her cheek, his touch light and tender as he admired her peaceful expression.

"You're so beautiful," he murmured softly, his voice filled with awe, "Even in your sleep."

Beatrice stirred at the sound of Rooster's voice, her eyelids fluttering open as she slowly came back to consciousness. She blinked up at him, her gaze soft and filled with affection as she returned his smile.

"Hey there," she greeted sleepily, her voice still thick with sleep, "Did I fall asleep?"

Rooster chuckled softly, brushing a strand of hair away from Beatrice's face. "Yeah, you did," he replied warmly, "But don't worry, I kept watch over you. You looked so peaceful, I didn't want to disturb you."

"Thank you, Roos," she whispered softly, her voice filled with love, "You're always looking out for me."

"I'll always look out for you, Bea," he murmured against her lips, his voice filled with sincerity, "You mean everything to me."

“Are we in San Diego yet?”

Rooster checked his watch before glancing out the window, noticing the city lights twinkling below them. "We're getting close," he replied with a smile, "Just a little longer and we'll be home."

Beatrice's face lit up with excitement at the prospect of returning home. "I can't wait," she exclaimed eagerly, "I miss our bed, and the kids and the dogs, and just...being home."

As the plane touched down at San Diego International Airport, Rooster and Beatrice woke up fully and gathered their belongings and made their way off the plane. They navigated through the terminal together, their hands intertwined as they made their way towards the exit.

Once outside, they hailed a taxi and climbed inside, relieved to be back on familiar ground. As they drove through the city streets towards their home, Rooster couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude wash over him.

"We're home, Bea," he murmured softly, his voice filled with warmth, "Back where we belong."

Beatrice smiled back at Rooster, her heart overflowing with happiness at the thought of being home. "I missed this place," she admitted softly, "But most of all, I missed being here with you."

Rooster reached out to take Beatrice's hand in his, squeezing it gently as he met her gaze with unwavering affection. "I missed it too, Bea," he replied sincerely “...we should go on a date this week.”

“Oh?”

“Yeah, take the kids too, it’ll be fun.’

She smiles tiredly at him ‘...yeah…it will.’

A Possible Future Based On Hisoka's Fortune - HxH Predictions

Hunter x Hunter Chapter 105 (Raw)

"A red-eyed customer will visit your store. Half of them is angel, and the other is the god of death. Presumably they are hoping that you will sell the moon's secrets to them. They ought to be especially pleased about that of the frost moon.

On a hot day, with the mediation of the said customer, the two of you, the man of a reversed cross and you, are probably to be left alone together. The false fourth moon will be torn away from the calendar. With this, those that remain will become 6."

I'm gonna put it here to remind us all of Hisoka's real fortune.

We all know how Shalnark ended up dead according to the fortune he received back in Yorknew arc. Now everyone is paying attention at Shizuku's fortune and making predictions. One of the most popular of these theories is how Shizuku will die around merchandise covered in black, which are brought by the Kakin mafia or one of the princes, if I remember correctly.

So now, I shall make my own predictions on what will happen in the future HxH chapters. But this time it will be based on Hisoka's real fortune.

WARNING: IF YOU HAVEN'T READ HUNTER x HUNTER CHAPTERS 349 TO 400, ESPECIALLY 391 TO 400, DO NOT INTERACT OR READ FURTHER. Keep in mind that this is unedited, and you are bound to read some cringey parts at some point.

First Stanza:

As Hisoka accepted Hinrigh's offer of going to VVIP room at tier 1, he's currently on his way there. The only one there who is described as a "red-eyed customer will visit your store. Half of them is angel, and the other is the god of death" is Kurapika, who is, at present, the bodyguard of 14th Prince Woble and Queen Oito.

At some point, they will meet again. They have to. There is no way that Hisoka will not go to the next banquet nor snoop around and find out what's up in the said tier. He will be there and his encounter with Kurapika for the first time since Yorknew arc is inevitable.

"Presumably they are hoping that you will sell the moon's secrets to them."

With Hisoka's presence in tier 1, Kurapika won't be able to help but wonder what happened to the Phantom Troupe, especially Chrollo, after Kurapika and the main gang left Chrollo, Hisoka and Pakunoda on top of the cliff/mountain (pls my brain isn't cooperating right now, somebody remind me), in the middle of nowhere.

Kurapika will definitely ask Hisoka about the Phantom Troupe. Presently, he wants to know about them and, obviously, he will get curious whether they are in the Black Whale or not. Remember, the Phantom Troupe is also his target, but obviously more secondary as 4th Prince Tserriednich is his first and foremost target as of this arc.

Kurapika will definitely find out that they are onboard the ship, and in all probability, Hisoka will let him know about it. After all, wouldn't Hisoka want to form an alliance again with Kurapika?

"They ought to be especially pleased about that of the frost moon."

I believe Hisoka will reveal something about the frost moon with Kurapika.

As you know, the frost moon refers to #11 of the Phantom Troupe. Back in Yorknew arc, they were referring to Uvogin. But he died. He even got a tombstone-less tomb and a requiem on the night of the underground auction. So, how is frost moon still relevant to this arc?

Well, sucks for you, but the one who replaced Uvogin is none other than this man:

Hunter x Hunter Chapter 377 (Official English Translation)

Illumi Zoldyck.

With the way he is acting at the moment and how he divulged his assassination deal with Hisoka is making him super suspicious. There has been so many theories about him being Hisoka and so on because of how sus he is at the moment.

Though the theory about him being Hisoka has been debunked as of the current available chapters, you cannot deny that this is not merely just a "kill me and my engagement ring to or prenup with you is that you get paid". There's something more going on here.

I predict that he and Hisoka are on cahoots with each other. Surely, Hisoka had a deal with him, but I think it's more of helping him destroy the Spiders from the inside and so Illumi can save Kalluto from Hisoka's murder plan.

If it is true that Hisoka and Illumi are working together because Hisoka asked him to just like in Yorknew and Illumi can save his younger sibling, then Kurapika will be pleased. Because that's less spiders he has to worry with, considering that he also has to get closer to Prince Tserriednich to take back the remaining scarlet eyes, while also helping Queen Oito and Prince Woble survive the succession war.

Second Stanza:

I am mostly onboard with the prediction that Kurapika and Hisoka will come up with some sort of agreement regarding the Troupe. Kurapika already has too many things in his plate regarding the succession war with the remaining princes and how he will get close in contact with Prince Tserriednich. It won't come into surprise if Kurapika asks Hisoka for a helping hand or accept Hisoka's offer of his own kind of alliance, which I think he would do just like in Yorknew. But I think this time Hisoka will warn him not to remove Chrollo's nen. xD

Hisoka will perhaps help him take out some of the members. I feel that he will go for Shizuku and/or Bonolenov first. They are currently with Chrollo, so perhaps with Kurapika's help or someone's help, Chrollo can get separated from them, and then he can kill Shizuku and Bonolenov right then and there.

But we can also take into account that the closes Spiders to Hisoka right now are Nobunaga, Phinks, Feitan, and most likely Franklin and Machi. He can go for one of them first, as well. But I really feel like Shizuku and Bonolenov will die and I'll explain why in a short bit.

And of course, the one I'm most excited about is the showdown between Hisoka and Machi. I'm so ready to witness the best tragic romance of all times

Later on, Kurapika will maybe help him get another chance to be alone with Chrollo in return of him getting rid of some of the Troupe members. The ship is on the way to the false Dark Continent right now, so maybe he can set up a place there where Hisoka and Chrollo can face off. And it will be hot on that place on that day.

But it can also be that because of Kurapika, Hisoka and Chrollo will be alone together in the Black Whale ship, whether intentional or not. But how can it be a hot day in a ship, especially later when they can no longer go out of the premises due to the unpredictable travel conditions?

When the whole ship is in chaos and on fire. Now that will be wild, but not impossible.

"The false fourth moon will be torn away from the calendar."

In Yorknew arc, the false fourth moon was Hisoka, the former #4 of the Spiders. His allegiance to the spider was never true and he was willing for the existence of the Spider to perish.

But the one to replace him was Kalluto Zoldyck, the youngest member of the famous Zoldyck family.

As of now, it looks like he is getting along with them, and based on chapter 377 and 380, he has found some sort of comfort with them.

I mean look at Kalluto sitting near Machi, whom I previously analyzed based off of her speech language as someone considerate to kids.

And how she is reacting when Illumi revealed to Mizai about everyone in the Phantom Troupe onboard the ship.

Even so, how can Kalluto be a false fourth moon?

Because he is a Zoldyck.

At some point in the current arc, he will have to choose between the Zoldyck family and the Spiders, considering the fact that Illumi is most likely in cahoots with Hisoka, who is trying to kill the Spiders and have a rematch with Chrollo, perhaps.

And he will definitely choose the family. Because before he is a Phantom Troupe member, he is a Zoldyck. Knowing the dynamics of the family and all of that, I think he will have no choice but to choose his own biological family over the one he found some comfort with. Thus, he has always been a false fourth moon, just like Hisoka.

"With this, those that remain will become 6."

Whether this happens before, during, or after the Hisoka and Chrollo being alone together on a hot day, it doesn't matter. I predict that there will be six members of the Phantom Troupe left, including Chrollo.

And you know what's funny, I think the ones who will have to die are Shizuku and Bonolenov, as I stated previously.

Because:

The ones who will be left will be the original Phantom Troupe members.

Originally, there are nine members. But three of them are already dead: Pakunoda, Uvogin and Shalnark.

When Shizuku and Bonolenov dies, the ones who will be left will be Nobunaga, Phinks, Feitan, Franklin, Machi, and Chrollo.

The original six.

I really think that if this will be the case, then we have a big potential or two when it comes to exploring the dynamics and relationships between the founding members. We have already witnessed the tension and conflict between the founding members when Chrollo was kidnapped by Kurapika back in Yorknew.

So this time it'll be interesting if we see it once again. And it'll be better if six of them are alive, but Chrollo is alone with Hisoka and they are far away from the other five. It'll be another dilemma for them once again. Do you save Chrollo or do you live on and keep the Spider alive?

And it'll be more interesting if the other people's predictions that the Hei-Ly family had something to do with Sarasa's death and the six founding members finds out about this and ends up being face to face with the benefactor.

These two events can tie into the Spiders' backstory a lot with the former possibly igniting or making them recollect the strong bonds that existed back on that day in the forest and the latter resolving the grudge and guilt they have been carrying since childhood.

Also, having the six founding members dying at the same time or together can be melancholic and sorrowful. A tragic and sad ending, but which provided them resolution and catharsis.

And that's about it. I hope you enjoyed reading my predictions. This post has been in my drafts since the day before my birthday last year and I just completed it in one sitting. Finally, I posted something decent after a long time.

Hello!

I was doing a deep dive into the history of vampire literature and my mind was blown when I heard about “The Black Vampyre: A Legend of St. Domingo” published pre-bram stoker Dracula, in America 1819. Maybe it’s bad to say but if never heard of it before. It was really revolutionary, and the first of its kind of many things. A comedic study that explored themes of slavery, interracial marriage, and had a mixed race protagonist, a (possibly ambiguous?) vampire child character AND was literally one of the first anti-slavery stories.

I’d be so curious if Anne Rice ever read it and if Rolin or any of the show writers came across it during research. I’ve not read it yet but wanted to ask you if you’d come across it before?

For now:

I went through the Vampire Companion, and while I do not know if Anne read that book (maybe someone else knows?) there are some... let's say interesting tidbits that could connect:

Saint-Domingue The French name for Haiti, a former French colony. Lestat claims to be married to an heiress from this island when he first becomes a vampire; the claim is part of his disguise while dealing with Pierre Roget, his lawyer. Two centuries later, Lestat is in this country when he sorts through his doubts about Akasha's plan. They argue and Lestat perceives Akasha's weakness: she needs an allv to confirm her vision. (VL 118, QD 391-398)

and

Haiti The Caribbean island where Lestat and Akasha go following the slaughter they perpetrated on Lynkonos. Overcome with shame at his participation, Lestat resists Akasha here, even though the island of Haiti has been the scene of male violence for over four hundred years. Lestat ironically refers to Haiti as the "Garden of God," for revolution, aggression, slavery, and bloodbaths have turned this virtual paradise into a land of mud and poverty. It is in Haiti that Lestat begs Akasha to bring him to the other surviving vampires who are currently in California. (QD 391 , 395)

Now... I'm not sure if that is indicative of her having have had the knowledge of the book (as I do not know the content of it yet), but it kinda seems that she could have, and I would think the show maybe does, too. (Obviously the QotD arc might give a bit more away here, so the future will tell I guess.) And of course the child vampire might parallel other things as well, though if Anne might have read it before or after or maybe because of that...? Sheer speculation^^

But the themes of the book you described definitely make one listen up, right?!!!
