Since book 7 part 5 (the part where we meet Meleanor/Maleanor 👀) is coming to EN this month, i would love to see your take on lilia’s proposal to meleanor! i mean they were like little kids right? it couldn’t have been that serious…i think the only reason she even brought it up again is because she could tell lilia still genuinely loved her…(even if he didn’t realize it himself?) but, oh well! One of the most fundamentally interesting things to me about YJ and writing fic, specifically, is how the blame changes hands depending on the story. On whose perspective you're writing from. On whose story it is at a given moment. The very thing I dislike about viewers missing the point becomes so fascinating to me from within the narrative. Who are these characters when seen through the eyes of their peers?

Who does Jackie become? If you're Shauna, she's the love of your life, and your greatest rival, and the other half of your soul, and the person you blame for your dead dreams. If you're Van, she's the respected captain who earns none of your respect in the woods, the one who left you to die without blinking, the easiest target for teenage malice. If you're Natalie, she's competition for affection, the blabbermouth who can't leave well enough alone, the hands putting themselves to no good use. If you're Jackie? You're just a girl. You're so tired. You're so scared. You're losing face a little more every day, and you're made of despair, and you can't even trust your best friend. It's not your fault. It's not your fault. It's not your fault.

Who does Lottie become? If you're Natalie, she's your direct foil, the splinter under the edge of your thumbnail, the smart mouth to match your own, the confusing amalgamation of normal friend and mad ritual. If you're Misty, she's the first shred of obvious power in months, a leader who might need to be nudged back into line, a fascinating exercise in hitching your wagon to the right star early on. If you're Taissa, she's flat-nuts and endlessly frustrating, she's got your girlfriend's full attention, she's incredibly dangerous. If you're Lottie? You're just a girl. You're so tired. You're so scared. You've built a pedestal you can't keep your balance on, and you're not sure if you're right or going crazy, and you didn't want this. It's not your fault. It's not your fault. It's not your fault.

From outside the narrative, there is no bad guy. There is no blame. It is no one's fault. It is Man v. Nature, they are doing the best they can with an impossible situation. They're all trying to contribute what they can to the story, for better or worse.

From inside the narrative, you are a teenager trapped in a society constructed entirely of bare-bones-survival with the wildest assortment of girls. From inside the narrative, to stay human, you have to love and fight, respect and judge. Every story changes the game. Every story shifts the blame. A hero in one has the bloodiest hands in the next. And that, to me, is such a thrilling sandbox to play in.

Meet Aspa: Ody's and Poseidon's child

They're a small, nonbinary devil XD I know what you're probably thinking, but no; Ody wasn't the one who got pregnant this time. It was actually Poseidon. And nope, he didn't get knocked up the traditional way. Aspa was the product of blood mixing (during six hundred strike, some of Ody's blood seeped into Poseidon's open wounds, mixed with his ichor and ended up getting him pregnant). They're super attached to Odysseus and a literal angel around him. Poseidon, however, gets the feral side. He's honestly just their stress ball that they bite and chew on. And Marvel snorting and saying that that reminds him of Phantom. And of course, the YJ crew, ask who that is.

Thinking today about the fact Silco was having people following Vander's kids around. Just. Knowing their whereabouts and all.

It's not as if he wasn't ready to use kids or kill kids if necessary, obviously, and technically in canon he was more than happy to finish them off -- or at least ready to dangle them over Vander's head to get Vander to agree to his plans --, but the idea that he checks on those kids specifically because they're Vander's.

Obviously S2 gave us another layer with Felicia, and all, but I'm just. Invested in Silco being invested in four small urchins doing mischief in the Undercity only because their his enemy's children. Not even his enemy, is he? His. Political rival, let's call it that. His...almost murderer. His. old friend. His old brother in arm. His old lover.

The man who seemed to have been born to be a father, one day, being a father of four, on his own.

(Silco, of course, was never interested in fatherhood or domesticity, was more than willing to put comfort aside until they've reached their goal, anyway, although he supposed, in hypotheticals, in their future, once they'd have Zaun, well, if Vander still wanted some midgets, Silco might have--)

Anyway, point is: Silco with complex feelings he refuses to acknowledge about Vander's kids (they're pawns, and only pawns) specifically because they're Vander's (one could point out Ekko is of interest, that Benzo is as much a pillar to the little community Vander has built, and Sevika does point out flatly that some people do pay attention their right-arm to which Silco snarks "feeling neglected, are you? Someone you might need to punch?" and Sevika just raises her eyebrows at him pointedly)

SECOND point is, of course, Silco ending up, because of circunstances, meeting every kid one by one (and yes, nobody's surprised Powder's his favourite, but all the same, and very important: meeting all of them) (and leaving a lasting impression on all of them) (To be honest I feel like Mylo might be weirded out and impressed in turn, and then put out when it turns out that, like Vi, Silco favors Powder) (Claggor is the least impressed, I think, and the most wary) (Vi WANTS to be wary, but also she's conflicted cause Powder loves the guy, and the guy also speaks to her soul when he talks about Zaun and getting respected)

Meanwhile Vander is like: is he threatening my kids or does he want to raise them with me. Benzo. Benzo what does it mean.

Benzo is like: I miss Felicia every single day. Give me alcohol and deal with the evil guy you're somehow still in love with on your own.

Irondad fic ideas #151

There is a LOT of Iron Man merch out there. One day, Stark Industries comes out with a line of Iron Man themed night lights that look like arc reactors. The marketing? "For kids who are scared of the dark: Iron Man will protect you."

In completely unrelated news, a whole bunch of child abusers across the country have recently been arrested as a result of  anonymous tips to local authorities.

Bonus:

It's an open secret at some point. Teens who are being abused start buying the night lights. Hell, adults start buying them. Charities pop up to cover the cost for anyone who needs it. Kids who are newly safe often send their night lights on to others ("I'm not scared of the dark anymore," they say).

Even with all of this, nobody snitches to the media or government. They all know grown-ups tend to complicate and ruin precious things.

It helps that the night lights clearly can distinguish between different types of situations. Kids whose parents need mental health or addiction support suddenly find they're being contacted by free services that actually help. If ICE is a concern, the people knocking on the door are not cops but immigrant rights activists. Kids who are hungry get food. Families who need housing support coincidentally find it.

"Iron Man will protect you," indeed.
