Connected two dots that absolutely are not there and now I inflict it on all of you:
I was thinking about the White Gloves and how they have cooks in their basement kitchen blasting Brahmin with flamers to roast them
Then I thought about how the White Gloves were, historically, cannibals
Which made me realize, there’s only one other NPC in the game who both uses a flamer to cook shit and is also an aggressive cannibal:
Tumblr media
Cook-Cook.
So now I’ve all but convinced myself that Cook-Cook very well could’ve been a member of the Proto-White Gloves before House took the strip back over and banned them from cannibalism, which caused him to fuck off to the west and join up with the Fiends so he could keep indulging in human meat
(My other piece of evidence is admittedly flimsier, but it’s the fact that he’s the only Fiend in the game who, instead of wearing the fiend helmet, wears a mask that covers his whole face (much like the modern White Gloves and possibly Proto-White Gloves))

Writing Foreshadowing in Fiction part 2
Dialogue that Means More Later
A clever line of dialogue can seem completely innocent at first but gains significance as the story progresses. This is a great way to slip in foreshadowing without slowing down the plot. However, avoid making the line too cryptic or obviously prophetic.
Example: In "Breaking Bad", there’s a moment when Hank (a DEA agent) jokes about Walt (the protagonist) secretly being a drug kingpin. It’s played off as a joke at the time, but later, when Hank finds out Walt *is* the drug kingpin, the line takes on a whole new meaning. The beauty of this kind of foreshadowing is that it seems like casual banter—until it’s not.In your story, a character could casually say, “I’ve always been terrible at keeping secrets,” early on. Later, this foreshadows a moment when they accidentally reveal something crucial or betray someone without meaning to.
Misdirection and Red Herrings
Sometimes, foreshadowing works best when paired with misdirection. You plant hints that could point to several outcomes, but the reader only realizes which one was true in hindsight. This keeps them guessing and makes the actual reveal more satisfying. You could use misdirection by making readers think one character is going to betray the protagonist (through small suspicious actions) but later reveal that it’s actually another character who has been betraying them all along, and the first character was innocent.
Dreams and Visions
If you’re writing a genre that allows for it—like fantasy, sci-fi, or even psychological thrillers—foreshadowing can come through dreams, visions, or hallucinations. These can be vague and symbolic or eerily accurate, but they should always leave readers wondering whether they’re really seeing the future or just imagining things.
Example: In "The Hunger Games", Katniss has a recurring image of Rue dying that foreshadows Rue’s eventual fate. It’s presented as a fear at first, but it becomes a heartbreaking reality. The dream sets up the reader’s emotional reaction to Rue’s death before it happens.
I'm about to finish right now, don't lose focus. These are some final things you want to be careful of...
Repeat Without Overdoing It: A symbol or piece of dialogue can appear more than once, but avoid hammering it into your reader’s head.
Use Different Methods: Mix it up—foreshadow through symbols, dialogue, character actions, and even setting. This way, your story feels layered and engaging.
Balance: Too much foreshadowing can spoil the twist. Too little can leave readers confused. Find the sweet spot where readers feel satisfied when they finally connect the dots.

Something about even when Tommy is taking care of Buck there being this distance between them, Tommy is on the couch and turning off the lights while Buck is still trying to talk, Tommy is in the foreground of Buck having another “who are you without your family” moment in a graveyard, Tommy in the hospital, wearing a visitor badge, close but never touching, there but never there.
Something about Tommy being all over this episode and still barely there at all. He is in Buck- Evan’s- life but he’s not in it, he’s on the outside, always behind this invisible fence
Something about “Buck. The people who know me, call me Buck”
Something about Buck telling Tommy- his BOYFRIEND- Tommy all about this curse and this story, but it’s Eddie who has to explain the holes in the story Buck doesn’t know he’s leaving
Something about Tommy being in the room with him when he wakes up with boils but Eddie is the one who checks him out and makes sure he’s okay
Something about Buck being the one we’re shown to get Hens text about Denny, signally everyone else in that room, that family, who got that text except for Tommy, Tommy having to ask what had happened, having to be explained that everything was going to be okay
He is there but he is not, he’s in the room but he’s not apart of it
Something about only dreaming about finding a love like that, something about “you don’t find it son, you make it”
Something about Buck constantly trying to make it work with people, trying to force it to work with people because that what he thinks he meant, because love is work right? It’s something you make work
Something about him always misunderstanding the assignment
Something about the last time Buck was in a graveyard he was shoulder to shoulder with Eddie, talking about how a girl he just met sees him, all the while leaning on Eddie in the aftermath of his death he has accepted but never understood
Something about him telling Tommy that the night they met being the most fun he’s had since dying, something about how he connects Tommy and Natalia to an event neither where there for, as two people who can never understand the horror of those 3 minutes and 17 seconds
Something about Buck throwing himself into danger and adrenaline time after time and chasing relationships that feel like that because that’s love right? Something that feels like being struck by lightening and surviving and non of the side effects
Something about Buck not being able to sleep after his death until he sits on Eddie’s couch, Eddie is the person he comes too for when he’s restless, for the calm after the storm
Something about “it’s about how she makes me feel” “like you’re flying high” “like I’m standing on solid ground”
Something about Tommy being jealous of the 118 and the family they’ve built because he’s not apart of it, and a part of him knows he never will be
Because the roles have all been filled and the family has already been made and he is trying to build something with Buck- Evan- thats already been built

“I really like that one (romantic) movie from 2011 that James McAvoy was in where he mostly just pines for his red-themed counterpart throughout the movie while said love interest is destined to be on the other side of the growing conflict going on that is bigger than the two of them” my guy WHICH ONE?!

I think I’ve seen a post about it before, but I’ve connected more dots and I feel like it should be talked about more because..
Tumblr media
that guy from La Dee Dah Dah Day is totally Max right?
a couple things make me believe this!
- character is a jock played by Jeff, and Jeff was heavily considered for the role of Max before he got involved in other projects
- we see Peter (hot cocoa boy) is also infected during this number which could be a coincidence and they just needed an extra, buuuut….in the “Nerdy Prudes Must Livestream” livestream, Nick mentions how NPMD was the first completed work in the Hatchetfield trilogy
-we do see the same letterman jacket being used later during the working boys segment
Tumblr media
however we know this is (very likely) a different character because of how Jeff’s hair is up and how the letterman is now buttoned
-bonus points for the “J” on the letterman possibly standing for “Jägerman”
-the demeanor of the character (even though his is infected) gives a very Max like energy and yes this could be Jeff just being an asshole jock, but NPMD was the first finished Hatchetfield show which means they would have known what Max’s checker was going to be like
I think this is fun to talk about because like….how the hell did max get infected??
I know this is a question that can pertain to many of the first few infected characters we see, but I feel like most of them can be covered by “oh yeah they went to the starlight that night”, but there’s no way max would have. we know he got infected before the rest of hatchetfield high because of the later scene of Alice being trapped in the high school, so that didn’t infect him. that means he was killed and then infected or some how infected unknowingly like the patrons in beanies. the ladder is more likely obviously, but imagine if it was the former and instead of Max coming back as a ghost after he died in the Waylon place, he came back as a part of the Hive.
boy do I love thinking about the implications!!
