So I’m actually developing another original story besides Bliss which I’m calling “Duck Duck Goose”. It revolves around fairy tales, but more specifically around the nature of “Grimm Fairy Tales”, partnered with their original absurd or violent natures.

Here’s our protagonist:

Einin, a pregnant woman presumably somewhere in her mid-twenties, is on the constant run from a giant creature known as the “Mother Goose”, who bares a grueling and unsatisfiable appetite. With it’s most favored source of sustenance being naive individuals currently conceiving, Einin’s current status of pregnancy has made her target to this monster. It chases her down relentlessly, and all that Einin can do is find ways to divert it in any way possible in the hopes that she can give her growing body a well-needed rest.

With a scent so strong, the Goose is always bound to find her. The only source of constant socialization is her bright yellow umbrella, to whom she refers to as “Ducky” as if it’s its own entity. All of the escaping she does usually wears her down, and has driven her to the point of talking to the umbrella— and claiming that it talks back. Everyone in their right mind knows it’s nothing more than an object. But with Einin’s emphasis on wanting to protect the seemingly important umbrella, it makes one consider her motives as to why she’s dead set on always having it where she can see it. Perhaps it’s a comfort item? But it can’t be that easy, right?

In her consistent attempts to stray as to hopefully one day lose the Mother Goose’s reign, being that staying in a single place for long usually means the Goose will continue to come back, she occasionally meets with other peculiar individuals: A girl cloaked in a red hood who mounts the back of a giant wolf, two bounty hunter siblings apparently made of candy, a mysterious man of many fables and stories passed around about his grand accomplishments, and so on. She’s not sure of dubbing any of these encounters as “friends”, though. Not that she doesn’t want to, but circumstances have made staying in one place and creating meaningful bonds a task too dangerous for her own good. Usually, she has to run from them, too.

Oh, and if you’re wondering, this is the Mother Goose!

yan gyaru who finally found you, and was huffing and puffing from all that running before grinning at you. "Lets go, babe?" He said, grabbing your backpack from your shoulders and carrying it himself.

It’s Friday night, and you’ve somehow got dragged into having a sleepover with the guy who’s been obsessively crushing on you for ages—your bubbly gyaru friend, who just can’t get enough of you.

The whole walk to your house, he was gushing and nonstop talking about how fun it was gonna be. “Babe! This is gonna be so fun, I can’t wait!” he chirps, holding onto your arm tightly as if he has doubts that you were gonna run away.

yan gyaru who from the second he steps in your home, he’s a non-stop chatterbox. He’s talking about everything—school, the latest drama, his favorite new clothes, and of course, you. His eyes are constantly on you, lighting up every time you laugh or even just nod along, internally cheering that he made you laugh.

“Oh my god, Y/N, have you seen the latest episode of that show we talked about? We have to watch it together tonight! It’s gonna blow your mind!” He said as he played with your hair.

You can tell he’s beyond excited just to be around you, and his energy is contagious. He’s always smiling, laughing, and playfully bumping your shoulder whenever he makes a joke.

yan gyaru whose endlessly complimenting you. He just can’t stop complimenting you. Whether you’re dressed up or in casual sleepover clothes, he’s still in awe of you. “You look cute even in pajamas, Y/N. Like, how is that fair?” He pouted, scrunching his eyebrows together as he rubbed your arm up and down

He loves finding excuses to be near you—adjusting your hair, teasing you about how comfy you look, or even just admiring your smile. “You’re seriously too cute, I’m not even joking. I could stare at you forever, hehe~.”

yan gyaru who inists on staying up late even if your half asleep by 10 pm. He’s full of bubbly energy, even when you’re eyes are starting to close. “We can’t go to bed yet! We have to at least talk about… everything!”

He starts asking more personal questions as the night goes on, his obsession peeking through. “What’s your favorite part of the day? Did you think about me at all today?” His voice is playful, but you can tell he genuinely cares about your answers by the way he intently listens

When you start to get drowsy and start giving mumbled answers, he gives a soft laugh. “You’re so pretty when you’re sleepy. Here, let’s get comfy,” he says, tugging the blanket closer around you both.

been learning how to render liquid cartoonilly-realistically, and it’s been fun! figuring out layering and stuff. learning on my own :]! i’m not weird about liquid i just love rendering it <3,, speaking of rendering; i’ve definitely gotten better at rendering him, but am tryna squeeze in a simpler sketchy style to draw faster. the layers are fun but they take a while <\3

ok this might be a little weird but to keep the blood out of his throat his voice is a little breathy sometimes (hence the excessive ‘h’s. its fun to write them lmao). breathy autotune 😭

alsO the stitches on his hoodie elbows are from his ability to detach his forearms, and they stay connected to him with the same rope his neck is made of. his anatomy is questionable but long neck = less gut (its stored inside him). lots of huggable ability ❤️. HES SUCH A DAD. it’s like beer gut but not,,AND because those arms are connected to his gut, if you like…lean into him too hard or whatever his hands twitch. playfully pumch him and his hands shudder. silly guy. i know its definitely an interesting way to interpret soul but i like him like this :]

Speed-paint!

I got a new book about Capone and I’ve been reading it nonstop so I haven’t had time to draw, so here’s the speed-paints for the three Refs I have up so far!

I started with Napoleon, using @/rivaldii’s drawing of Lannes as a reference. It was my third attempt at drawing Napoleon and I’m very pleased with how he came out. I also used First-hand descriptions of Napoleon.

I used Richard William’s Animator’s Survival Kit’s walk cycle Key’s and Inbetweens as a ref for Étienne and Gustave (once again, they belong to @/lidensword and @/all-yn-oween).

The little doodle in the corner isn’t really a reference to anything, I wanted to show how Napoleon could feel really big emotions and incorporate some of his guys.

I added a telescope because Kah steals Napoleon’s in a deleted scene and (I think) the movie too.

Yandere!Silly Pete’s headcanons

Welp, I guess we’re doing this. This has been something that I’ve both been wanting to and have been dreading to do, and my urges won so yeah…

Quick disclaimer: this is not going to be your typical yandere stereotype. It’s instead going to follow my personal take on a yandere. Don't get any ideas, okay? I don't endorse or condone this type of behavior; it's all part of the typical yandere traits.

Oldest of the three

As well as being the only one with some proper relationship knowledge. Only because he was in a not so good one about a year back.

He has scars on his arms and one on his cheek. Some of them are from previous altercations while others are… self inflicted.

His biggest rival is Freddy, mostly because he thinks he's trying to make passes towards you.

He’s kinda degrading, but most of the time he doesn’t mean it. Hell, if he made you cry, he’d feel guilty about it for a good while.

He’s the type of guy to use words rather than actions.

His possessive behavior would start out small (ex: being worried about you constantly) and it would begin to ramp up to the point where he refuses to let you out of his sights.

Whenever he’s irritated, he’ll literally just scream into your chest. And then afterwards he’ll just go about his day like it was nothing.

He at one point nearly let his more violent urges take a hold of him, and during an altercation with Freddy, he threw a kitchen knife at him. He’s been doing whatever he can so it doesn’t happen again..

He also can sometimes have mood swings.

Middle sibling

Has some relationship experience, but not a ton.

Her previous crush was a absolute piece of sh-t, but since she was so infatuated with him, she couldn’t see that.

At first, her behavior seems sweet and caring. But after some time, you start to notice that it’s more akin to worship than devotion.

She bakes to try and keep herself from from obsessing over you.

She loves hugs. Though she mostly likes how easily they can trap you in her hold.

She has a ton of regressed emotions, and these have surfaced several times, specifically her anger.

Anyways, going back to her behavior, she’s also a bit of a people pleaser when it comes to her crushes to the point where she almost sets aside her own morals, which is bad.

I cannot count how many times she has thought of kissing you all over your face. Just constantly praising you nonstop.

He’s kinda new to the whole love thing, so he only knows like the basics.

When he first started crushing on people, it was more like obsession.

He starts off as a bit of a nervous wreck, but as time goes on, more of his traits will start to surface, both good and bad ones.

He’s known to act on impulse when he’s upset, which is a bad thing because most of the time, it leads to unpleasant situations..

He likes to draw. He says it keeps the bad thoughts away, though it doesn’t always work…

Will follow like a lovesick puppy.

Interview with Eric Lide and Angélica María

Solstoria by Angélica María (aka: @charmwitch) and Ozzie the Vampire by Eric Lide (aka: @ericlide) are celebrating their 10th year anniversaries! We're diving into these absolute webcomic legends to learn more about their creative process in a joint interview with María and Lide.

Ozzie the Vampire is a webcomic about a vampire gal named Ozzie and her best friend Kimmy who find themselves protecting the town of Gloomburg, New Jersey, which seems to always find itself under the constant assault of demonic forces from the underworld. Sometimes they even learn something!

Solstoria is follows a girl named Samantha and her brother, Lawrence, who carries the weight of protecting his family on his shoulders. When he goes missing, Samantha embarks on an adventure to become a knight.

For a look behind the scenes at these two webcomic series, read on!

It's spooky season, and both of your comics have themes of the supernatural. What kinds of creepy or magical energy do you bring into your comic?

Eric Lide:

I think the demons in Ozzie the Vampire bring the creepy energy for sure. A lot of them have bizarre and impractical anatomy, and they’re pretty enthusiastic about eating people.  Magic is a constant presence in the story as well, mostly through the spells Kimmy and Grimsley use to help Ozzie fight the bad guys.

Angélica María:

To start off, let's talk about the environments! There are certain areas and themes in Solstoria based around my love of Halloween! I'm not from the continental United States, so I've always loved the idea of a spooky air, or of pumpkins and ghosts. The Wayward Lands and Farmlands, two prominent areas spoken about in the story, are themed after the fall season in the United States. Besides that, witches carry a great importance in the story. They are magically gifted individuals of any gender, who purify the air and specialize in magics that are of help to the greater good of society. A witch is someone who can tame ghosts, calm uneven levels of magic in the city, and provide useful trinkets and charms for the everyday chore. They're just neat! Pointy hats are all the rage, too.

Which character in your comic would survive a horror movie?

EL:

Well Ozzie is more or less immortal, so she could probably sleepwalk her way through any horror movie scenario…

AM:

Oddly enough, I feel like Samantha and Oksana (eventually) have the calmest head on their shoulders. Most of the adults would probably be fine, Huxley would serve as a great merchant in between sanctuaries, but as for the rest… Actually, who's to say Solstoria isn't secretly horror…

A decade is a long time to be telling a story! Congratulations! How has your comic changed over the course of its publication?

EL:

When I first started out, I was just kind of drawing whatever and not thinking too much about the future. At that time, I was just trying to cram in as many fight scenes or gags as possible. Over the years though, I’ve come to love these characters and I think about them nonstop, so I’ve been writing more scenarios that challenge them on a personal level. There’s even a bit of romance coming up, which would’ve been unthinkable to me ten years ago.

AM:

Thank you so much! I burnt out for a few years, so you can definitely see my art style and narrative changing. I hope it's not... toooooooooo drastic of a change, but I always told myself to experiment on my pages and change things as I saw fit. If you re-read Solstoria, you will simply see my art evolve with no care of consistency. I apologize if this is glaring, but honestly- it's fun! One of the biggest changes now that I'm working on the story again is that we've swapped protagonists! Currently, we're seeing the story through Lawrence's eyes. Samantha's elder brother is possessed by a crow god, but he still thinks of his family first. Hopefully, they can figure something out together though!

What motivates you to keep going?

EL:

I’ve always been drawing comics since I was very young, so it’s hard to say. I think once a story is in me, it has to come out in some form, even if it takes forever or no one is interested in reading it. That said, comments– audience response of any kind, really– is always a huge boost for me.

Solstoria has an electric 2010s anime flavor. What kind of series inspire you? Do you have any manga or comic recs?

AM:

Oh, I appreciate the comparison, but I wish to counter it- Solstoria is heavily inspired by Japanese RolePlaying Games! Specifically, games created by Capcom, GameArts, Square-Enix, and a few others on top of that! I do have a few anime I quite enjoy, like Princess Tutu formulated my brain intensely. I highly recommend watching this show if you want to experience a masterpiece! If you just want a good time, I also quite like Slayers! As for video games, I have so many to recommend! I love Fire Emblem, Breath of Fire, Star Ocean, LUNAR, Lufia... and so much more! All of these games are close to my heart, but stylistically, I think the Disgaea series has a lot of visual influence on Solstoria.

Ozzie the Vampire has a cool punk flair that reminds me of webcomics I liked from the 2000s. Where do you draw inspiration from? Do you have any zine or webcomic recommendations?

EL:

Music was a big influence on Ozzie! There’s a lot of references to my favorite punk and metal records throughout the series, some obvious, others not so much. I always wanted the comic to look something like a scrappy punk zine. I don’t get to read many webcomics these days, but Boxcar City Rush has been a recent favorite.

What can fans of your series look forward to in the coming year?

EL:

More updates, hopefully. This year was a bit sparse due to working on my debut graphic novel, The Champion of Draeland, but I’ve been wrapping that up and eager to dive back into Ozzie. I have many other graphic novels on the way though, so balancing both worlds is going to be an interesting challenge.

AM:

I'm very ahead of schedule, so I hope I can keep the momentum going. We're learning quite a bit about Samantha's brother, Lawrence, but we will also learn soon about another character who is pivotal to both siblings. He's a quiet, gentle person who tries to take on things on his own, and it doesn't go his way. Also murder. There may be murder.

What is the best way for fans of your series to support you?

EL:

Leaving comments, reblogging and sharing updates, all that stuff really helps for sure! Fan art always brightens my day. I have a Patreon as well where I post early updates and behind-the-scenes material for only $2 a month. And of course, supporting my graphic novels once they release!

AM:
