Imagine, if you will, a mystery format show where objects are causing a bad day, and a secret organization has to neutralize them and scoop them up to save the world’s day.

- Canon queer characters

- found family that grows

- starts with a dynamic duo + the grouchy uncle type who sends them on missions

- playing with tropes. The grouchy uncle feeds them cookies. The fmc is precise (to the point of pedantism) and the mmc gets “vibes” about a situation (and is sometimes sloppy). (They hate each other SO MUCH at first)

- really good backstories & backstory uncovering

- science fantasy with a really cool system that also stans NIKOLA TESLA and craps on the automobile industry

- episode arcs are cozy mystery format (with the best a/b and later a/b/c structure I’ve ever seen)

- season arcs are five act tragedies which also function as season cliffhangers.

- not TOO sad bc the most empowering question imo is “the worst thing possible happened. NOW what?”

- jokes about gov bureaucracy

- their cover is as the IRS

- it’s family friendly so they pull their punches. But NOT with what happens, just how it makes you feel. Safe show.

- the cops/feds in the show are corrupt or awful at least half the time

- the whole take on villains explores mental health, hope, and human connection

- which the main characters also explore. The show highlights the difference between CHOOSING to do the work and risk vulnerability vs. choosing to hurt people bc you’re hurt or no longer care.

It’s late 2000s tv so there’s some stuff (lots of military characters, the odd transphobic comment, Pete’s got a little toxic masculinity going on I think it was on purpose but still). But it also attempts to tackle so many things and it’s just a lovely, lovely show imo.

When Harry told Sirius about Karkaroff showing Snape something on his arm, it confused Sirius.

Death Eaters operated with masks and in secrecy of each other (that’s likely why Snape didn’t know Peter was the spy).

I think the x files is going to be my favorite fandom story to tell for the rest of my life because within the span of THREE (3) months, I have created 68 gifsets, joined a discord group, made msr playlists, helped organize an x files secret santa, and written my first EVER fanfic… all because I got an anonymous ask on tumblr saying I should watch the x files, to which my documented response was “um, I don’t know about that.”

I’ve gotta admit as much as I know Darabella is a flawed ship (and some of the ppl who are anti for it have legit criticisms I love y’all for pointing it out cause it frustrates the hell out of me too trust) they’ll always just kind of be it for me.

Because as much as it was an “I can fix him” trope, as much as Rosabella could be selfish and Daring’s flaws got cranked up to 1000, she was also the first person to look at him after his destiny, the thing he dedicated his life to, failed, when people were questioning him as a prince and putting pressure on his and Apple’s relationship and tell him that, like, maybe it would be alright? Maybe this wasn’t his destiny, and maybe that was okay.

And the part that really gets me? She’s the first person after this happens to tell him that it doesn’t matter what’s on the outside, which as much as you can like other Daring ships or him whatever he desperately needed to hear. Not even cause he was selfish, that’s not what I’m saying, but bc he placed his whole identity on this image that people concocted for him based on him appearing the perfect prince. He was handsome, he was talented, and he was handsome! So who cares about him as a person?

Idk man. You spend four seasons (I watch the specials on Netflix so that’s why four idk if it’s three to some ppl or whatever tho) watching him be praised for his looks, watching girls fawn over him, and of course he enjoys it so nobody really questions how much he enjoys it. And then you get this girl, this girl who owes him nothing, this girl who (contrary to popular belief apparently) has a life of her own and people she cares about outside of him, and she’s nice to him. And she’s the first person after everything happens to just be nice to him, for the sake of being nice. Something about that will always hit different for me

first off all, war games by @lovelyelbowleech is so fucking good and long and even though I’m not caught up on the second installment I just know it’s so fucking good and you’re going to love it I promise trust me it’s amazing. War games is angsty and smart and fun you’ll be so happy! (& hurt)

also my new obsession the Mercy of Magpies by @ranilla-bean is soooo good I wanna scream about it all day and night. The world building is so extensive and delicious and then there’s a ton of amazing art that goes with it I swear it’s so good! I would recommend this one to anyone even if they aren’t in the fandom.

ok another long fic I enjoy WHICH IS ONE OF MY LONG TERM FAVES (I’ll catch up I swear I love love love you TAOB my wonderful first long zukka fic…) is the Art of Burning by @hella1975 I lost sleep reading this! The author also has fics for MHA!! Just check out her ao3 she’s an incredible author will rock your world I promise!!

DOG TEETH is the only not atla fic I’ve never read that I will recommend because again, @hella1975 poured a part of her soul in it so it’s good… and really really PAINFUL.

ONE OF THE FICS THAT INSPIRED LIAB is the one & ONLYYYYY: Ozymandias, King of Kings by Think_of_wonderful_thought (if you know their tumblr let me know!!) SO SO SO GOOD!!! Prison zuko! Isolated being disturbed & sokka being persistent and just such a good story!! One of my first true fanfic loves.

another gem I adore is actually one inspired by liab it’s La’s Wrath by anon and even though I can’t tag them if they read this just know this dark and tantalizing fic really takes an interesting perspective at what would have happened if the boys died and angsty but fun spirit shenanigans began. I love it so much it’s honestly my comfort fic haha

anything by @a-witch-in-endor in just mind blowing but: this is a gift (it comes with a price) rocked my brain chemistry in a way that was wonderful and intelligent and AHHH SO GOOD!!

Boomerangs and Rainbows is another AMAZING fic by someone who’s tumblr I don’t know but will totally add if I find out their tumblr! It’s a great fic I haven’t read in a while but I remember LOVING IT!

those are the longer fics that are more of that darker kind of angsty themes but I will do a few honorable mentions haha!

The Things I Would Do (To Steal Time With You) is the definition of a good long fic!! This one is by @erisenyo & it’s honestly such a relaxing time. Now don’t get me wrong! there’s a lot of tension both political and emotional communication happening but no one’s getting tortured so it’s a good breath of fresh air! The chapters are filled with so much wonderful world building I’m such a sucker for a good fleshed out world! This should keep you busy for a while!!!!! I’m so thankful that you’ve given me a chance to shout out to some of my fave fics and authors I wish I could scream about more of them!!! you’re such an amazing reader, I’m so thankful to have someone like you who takes the time to share your thoughts on not just ao3 but tumblr as well. I love seeing posts of the BMC kids—specifically Michael—using social media like insta/snapchat/tiktok/etc. bc it’s like “oh dumb teens doing dumb teen stuff that’s cute” but I have to be real w/ myself n admit that I genuinely believe Michael has never so much as touched any of those apps. I honestly think even tumblr is too mainstream for him. U could make a pretty solid case that he has the energy of a discord user and MAYBE reddit but, to me, Michael Mell spends most of his online existence on MMORPGs or old fucking chat forums and message boards, AOL-style. I imagine most of the ppl on these forums r adults n Michael is often the youngest one there by a looooooong shot. Jeremy and Michael’s moms stage an intervention in freshman year saying “It’s Weird That You Talk To Exclusively Older Ppl Online” n Mike’s like “nah they’re chill there’s this guy named Randy he has a son about our age he introduced us n now we play Warcraft together it’s a good time”. Michael’s moms forbid him from meeting any of the forum ppl in-person without supervision n he’s like “yeah that’s prolly 4 the best we’ve tried to meet as a group a few times b4 but they’re all Medical Equipment Techs (all of them) so they’re all busy w/ work :(“
