a/n: It's the one-year anniversary of the day rode the train to the mountains and wrote this up in one sitting. This is the first oneshot I ever wrote, and my first attempts at writing Ominis POV🫶 I hope you enjoy, and if you’re rereading THANK YOU♥️

Ominis Gaunt is a lost case - lost to the whims of one very determined Gryffindor sitting at his side.
They sit in the back of the History of Magic classroom, the only two students not lulled to somnolence by their professor. He: trying his hardest to focus on Professor Binns' droning (easier said than done). She: trying her hardest to distract Ominis while not being entirely sure of being successful or not (easier attempted than understood).
Professor Binns is completely insufferable, of course. Ominis wonders if the ghost is as blind as he is: Binns willfully ignores the fact that all of his students use his class as an excuse to get a nap in (maybe he simply doesn't see them sleeping - only one of many reasons why Ominis has decided he could never be a professor), rambling on and on in the most boring way possible. As if he were trying to be as dull as possible (maybe he does it to avoid interacting with the students which...can't be to blame). In a different life, Ominis could see himself quite liking the subject, but as things stand he despises it.
Especially now.
Ominis fervently wishes that he could fall asleep.
Then, he might avoid hearing her thoughts - they're consuming him and he can't ignore them as much as he would like to.
Normally, he loves this class - not the subject, obviously - but the class itself, for the sheer fact that it is the only time where he gets some peace and quiet. Everyone's minds nice and quiet and shut off for the time being while they sleep. Although he has gotten used to ignoring the thoughts of everyone around him, their various voices mixing and mingling with each other into a dull thrum in the back of his mind, it is nice to have some quiet once in a while.
But right now with everyone asleep except for the Gryffindor at his side, her thoughts are so loud it's like she's screaming at him.
So here he is, wishing he could fall asleep, leave the class, maybe turn off the infernal legilimency that has haunted him his whole life.

He is stuck listening to her.
It doesn't help that she seems to have caught on to him - something he had managed to avoid until now. Nobody else, not even Sebastian or Anne, has ever suspected a thing. But, in all fairness, those two are extremely loud and say every single thought that passes through their minds out loud even when they should remain quiet, and nobody else has had the opportunity to spend enough time with Ominis to begin to suspect anything.
Until her.
He had to go and let that blasted girl worm her way into his life, not leaving him alone ever, always looking for excuses to talk and ask his opinion, and being so intelligent that he wanted to invite her to study with him and talk with him and...
Since it happened a few nights ago, he hasn't stopped cursing himself for that stupid offhand comment he made. They had been studying in silence in the library together, by the history books where nobody else ever ventures (thank you, Professor Binns), and he could have sworn that she asked him if he was finally going to walk her back to her common room (he blames a lack of sleep and wishful thinking for this mishap). His traitorous face had flushed and he had jumped at the chance to escort her - maybe she would let him carry her bag, or... - only to feel his whole body go cold and his stomach drop when her response wasn't what he'd expected.
A pause: then: a confused voice: 'Ominis, I didn't say anything.'
His Gryffindor wasn't stupid like Gryffindors were normally wont to be. He knew her, and he knew that after his monumental mistake, the gears in her brain were turning and he was terrified that somehow she had figured it out.
(His Gryffindor?)
She had been unusually quiet around him since then, although he bitterly noticed that she was still acting normally with everyone else. Still finding every opportunity to punch Sebastian in the shoulder and laugh with Anne, still whispering with Natsai about Merlin knows what, still...
But she had been avoiding Ominis. He couldn't stand it.
Well, avoiding him right until this stupid class, when she had to go and sit right next to him (ignoring the fact that she always sits next to him in History of Magic, that everyone already has and adheres to their unofficial seats), and he can't ignore her.
She's pretending to take studious notes, but he knows better. The scratching of her quill blending with the droning of Professor Binns' voice but not drowning out her thoughts. They float above the other noises, her voice sweet and piercing. Ominis wonders vaguely what she's actually writing, because he's positive it isn't notes.
Professor Binns looks so sexy right now with his medieval hat, talking about...whatever it is he's passionate about. I wonder if he would let me talk to him after class without floating through me like he normally does...
Ominis is determined not to react. She's obviously trying to bait him. But...what if she is attracted to Professor Binns? Is he an attractive man? At the thought, the fist that's resting on top of his desk clenches, but he works to make sure his face remains impassive. Apart from a twitch of his lips, he thinks he's been quite successful.
She: huffing and shifting in her chair, her robes rustling as she crosses her legs. He: keeping his head facing forward, steadfastly ignoring her.
She changes tactics.
Maybe she's just as insufferable as the other Gryffindors, after all.
I wonder what Ominis would say if he knew I woke up moaning today after a dream about him -
He shifts slightly in his seat, hoping that she's so busy taking notes (who's he kidding) that she won't notice his discomfort as his trousers tighten -
...the girls in my dorm have been bothering me nonstop about who I've been mooning over but I don't want them to...
His hand is in such a tight fist it's a wonder he's not breaking any fingers as he tries to remain as still as possible, but his traitorous arousal is making her thoughts harder and harder to ignore. Had he ever been able to ignore her?
...his tongue was deep inside my cunt as I screamed his name...
He feels his face heat up at the thought - where had she learned such vulgar language? - and his whole body stiffens. He's sure that she can feel the tension and warmth radiating off of him in waves but that...she...his insane little lion keeps shouting at him in the silence of the classroom. She's now stopped all pretense of taking notes and is sitting stock still.
...his cock deep inside of me as...wait...what else did I hear Garreth say to Leander that night?...um... She shifts uncomfortably, her knee grazing Ominis's as she moves to squeeze her legs together. It's all he can do to not groan and remain impassive. Oh god...I...what's that feeling? This was just supposed to get back at him for probably - maybe - reading my thoughts and I'm officially insane because how would he even be able to do that?...his ears turning red from embarrassment are so adorable and I can't stand this anymore and...
Ominis tries his hardest not to move his head in her direction. His jaw flexes. Maybe he can drown her out if he starts reciting potions ingredients, or if he focuses on what Professor Binns is saying, but even he knows its futile. He's hanging on to her every word - thought? - and his head slowly turns in her direction as she keeps going.
...does he know how much I think about him? Oh god, what if he dreams of me the same way I...
He slams the open book in front of him shut, the loud noise causing Sebastian to jerk awake and babble incoherently for a moment before slumping back over his desk, drooling and snoring lightly. Nobody else in the class seems to notice except her of course. Blissfully, she has stopped talking - thinking - and he can finally -
It's no use. He needs to get out of there. She has invaded his mind and...What if she starts up again with her filthy thoughts that are bleeding into his own and -
Did he hear me? I didn't actually think...oh god, can he hear me now? What have I done?
Ominis very slowly brings his hand over to where he knows hers is. The quill falls out of her hand and he hears a sharp intake of breath at their contact. His fingers trace her knuckles and then he slowly trails them up her arm. His fingertips are so sensitive that he could swear that he feels every thread that he passes, her skin warm and alive underneath the fabric. Then to her neck, her throat bobs and he feels her erratic heartbeat. Finally, he reaches her face. She remains very, very still as his fingers brush over her features for the first time.
He has never touched someone like this before.
Her skin is like velvet, soft everywhere he touches. Now that he knows what it feels like he's not sure he can go back to before. His fingers trace the curve of her eyebrows - he finds that her nose is straight before it flares up a tiny bit at the tip - his fingers ghost over her impossibly soft lips. He drags his thumb across her bottom lip as her tongue darts out to wet them. It's impossibly intimate and the world has melted away and it's just the two of them in that moment.
He leans forward.
"Ominis, I..." she whispers, stricken.
His hand moves to tuck some of her loose hair away from her face - does she always wear it like this? - and his lips brush against her ear. He inhales deeply, her sweet smell invading his senses. She shivers under his touch and he breathes, "I heard everything."

Steddie Week 2024
July 6th Prompt: Dizzy

Steve stands up, and that’s where it all goes wrong.
His intent was to grab more drinks from the fridge, but when he stood, he blinked a few times. “Whoa,” he murmurs.
“Steve?” Robin asks. She sounds like she’s at the end of a long tunnel.
“Steve?” Eddie asks. He sounds closer, but not as close as he should.
“‘M fine,” he says, “jus’ dizzy.”
Then he’s waking up in the hospital. “What,” he asks, then doesn’t complete the thought because Robin and Eddie are both standing over him, one on each side, holding each of his hands, and he’d feel so much love if he could feel anything besides general panic because- “I can’t hear you,” he says, breathing picking up. “I can’t- please, I- I need-”
Eddie shuts up, staring at him with wide eyes, and after a second of hesitation, places Steve’s hand, palm down, on his chest. He takes deep, purposeful breaths, and Steve can feel his hand moving, feel the breaths, feel his heartbeat-
He takes a breath. Another. Another. By that time, Nancy had gotten a doctor.
Later, he’ll learn this is something they’d been watching for, but couldn’t be sure of until he woke up. Later, he’ll learn that Eddie lays awake at night, sometimes, hearing the sound Robin makes.
All he knows right now is how to keep breathing, how to keep holding Robin’s hand, how to believe he’ll be okay, because he has to.
He has to.
He stays with Eddie upon his release, because they’re together most days anyways, and it’s a certain kind of torture on Steve’s heart because Eddie’s started carrying around a notebook and a pen just to write to Steve whatever he was gonna say, and Steve doesn’t think he could love another person more than he did, but here’s the proof, apparently.
They’re sharing a bed, because Wayne had previously called their couch “older than Jesus,” and Steve lasted for all of an hour on it before slipping into Eddie’s room.
The good thing about sharing a room is it helps curb the nightmares for a time.
Eventually, though, they come back with a vengeance.
Steve’s laying in bed, like he does every night, when he rolls over to face Eddie. “Eddie?” He asks. Eddie’s always last to sleep, so Steve’s not hesitant about asking, except Eddie doesn’t answer.
“Eddie?” He asks again, jostling Eddie’s shoulder a bit.
Suddenly he shoots up in the air, and Steve bites back a yell.
Suddenly there’s a voice that sounds like it’s coming from everywhere and nowhere, reverberating off the corners of the room, echoing louder and louder. You took everything from me. Eddie’s arms snap, and Steve yells, scrambles up, music, except what’s his favorite song—that puppet one, metal, come on brain, think—but there’s nothing here but country, bluegrass, stuff Wayne likes, and Steve turns to watch the blood drain from Eddie’s face as another gristly crunch echoes, louder than anything so far. So I’ll take everything from you!
Something reaches out for him, grabs his shoulder, and he yells, twists around, pushes away, hard enough he falls on the ground. He opens his eyes to see Eddie on his bed, Steve sitting just off it, eyes wide and hand reaching to help, stalled halfway. Illuminated by the lamp, too, which wasn’t on half a second ago.
Steve blinks at him, looks at the room. No floating Eddie in the middle of it.
“Dream?” He asks. Eddie nods. He stifles the sob and practically launches himself onto the bed, into Eddie’s arms, lets himself shake apart because he can.
Eventually he feels reverberating in Eddie’s chest that he knows means words, means speaking, so he looks up at Eddie, who’s looking at the door.
He turns to look, too, and sees Wayne. “S-sorry,” he tries, still sniffling.
Wayne shakes his head at him, walks into the room, sits on the edge of the bed. Offers his arms out in a hug.
Steve thought he was done crying. Trust Wayne to prove him wrong, because he’s tearing up all over again as he leans into Wayne.
His new position means he can see Eddie, who points at him, makes a talking motion with his hand, then points at himself and Wayne. Steve frowns. “You… want me to tell you?”
Eddie points at Steve again, insistently, and Steve understands: your choice.
“I can,” he agrees. “We were in bed and I was tryin’a talk to you, but you didn’t answer, and I kept trying to get your attention, but suddenly you- you were up in the air, and your arms and legs broke, and a voice—it was Vecna, I didn’t recognize it in the dream—said I’d taken everything from him so he was gonna take everything from me. And I was trying to find music, but I couldn’t remember the name of your favorite song, and the only stuff in here was Wayne’s stuff, country and bluegrass and stuff like that, and…” he sighs out a broken sob. “I couldn’t save you.”
Eddie reaches for his hand, but suddenly that’s not enough, he needs to be able to feel his heartbeat, have his breathing move Steve’s hand, so he tips over into Eddie again, gets his hand on his chest and his face in the side of his neck.
Eddie says something, but before Steve can move Wayne’s got a comforting hand on his back. He removes it after a minute, and Steve can feel the shift in the bed of him getting up, but before he can mourn the loss, Eddie’s got his arms wrapped around Steve as he carefully lowers them back down. He rubs a hand up and down Steve’s spine, slips the other into Steve’s hair.
Steve falls asleep like that.
He wakes up in almost the same position. He tries to apologize, but Eddie waves him off, hands him some clothes and points to the bathroom before pointing to himself and miming cooking.
Steve’s heart clenches at the thought. “Okay,” he whispers.
Robin comes over later, and they sit on the front steps as he recounts what had happened. “He’s just so sweet,” he sighs. “And I’m an idiot who’s letting my heart get involved.”
Robin wraps an arm around his shoulders and kisses his temple. It doesn’t help as much as he’d hoped it would, but he appreciates the gesture anyways.
Later she leaves, and Eddie pulls out his dedicated Steve Notebook.
I’ve got a friend in Indy who knows sign language. I could give her a call, if you want? He writes, and again Steve’s all but overcome with love for this man.
Instead of anything he wants to do, he just nods. Eddie grins and hops up to use the phone.
He’s back in a couple of minutes, collapses onto the couch with the notebook before furiously scribbling and handing it to Steve.
I spoke to my friend. She says sorry and it sucks, first of all. Steve snorts and nods. She’s willing to talk to you, get you started, maybe even get you some books. Does tomorrow work?
Steve gapes up at Eddie. “Tomorrow?”
Eddie nods and grins, then points at Steve in a gesture Steve knows has come to mean you decide.
“That would be great,” he says. “Seriously, I- thank you, Eddie.”
Eddie waves him off, but Steve can see the happy little blush on his cheeks.
They head out the next day. It’s probably twenty minutes into the drive, and even with Eddie sitting next to him in the driver’s seat, it feels lonely. He never realized how much he’d miss the sound of tires on asphalt. He wasn’t ever truly into music, like Eddie is, but he misses the radio. He misses the wind rushing past, the silence that’s possible to share when both people can hear-
He doesn’t realize he’s crying until Eddie’s pulled over, a hand on his cheek and a concerned expression on his face. “Sorry,” he tries. Eddie shakes his head, presses his palm more firmly to Steve’s cheek. “Fuck,” he mutters. “‘S stupid. Just… felt alone. I dunno. There’s, like, a million little things you hear every day that you don’t think about, like the way your hands tap the steering wheel when you turn, or the way your clothes shift and rub against each other, and it’s all silent now, and there’s not even music, and-” he takes a deep, shaky breath. Lets it out as evenly as he can. “I just… felt really alone all of a sudden.”
Eddie brushes his thumb along Steve’s cheekbone as he thinks. Suddenly, he grins and moves his hand, shoving a tape into the deck and cranking the sound. He demonstratively puts his hand on the door. Steve laughs and does the same, gasping when he feels the vibrations of the song move through him. He can’t tell notes, but it’s something, and then Eddie carefully reaches for his hand, keeps his grip relaxed until Steve smiles at him and tightens his own fingers around Eddie’s. “Thank you,” he whispers.
Eddie smiles, nods, and gets back on the road.
They arrive at his friend’s apartment in no time, and Steve would be jealous at the length of the hug if Eddie didn’t immediately step back to grab Steve’s hand again. Based on his hand motions, he’s introducing Steve.
She asks Eddie something, and he turns bright red, pulling a strand of hair across his face as he glances at Steve before looking back at her and answering.
She invites them in, scribbles on a little chalkboard, and hands it to Steve with a smile. Hi, Steve! My name is Nicole. It’s nice to meet you.
He grins up at her. “It’s nice to meet you, too.”
She takes the chalkboard back, scribbles something else. Eddie tells me you recently lost your hearing. Do you mind me asking about that?
“Not at all,” Steve says, then frowns, somehow just now realizing he doesn’t know the full extent of what happened. “Honestly, all I know is I stood up and got really dizzy, and then I was waking up in the hospital.” He shrugs. “I’ve had a couple of pretty bad concussions, and I guess whatever made me pass out also just… took my hearing.” He shrugs.
Eddie shakes his head, grabs for the chalkboard. Almost. He bites his lip. You passed out, and I wasn’t fast enough. You hit your head on the floor. He looks away, takes a deep breath. I’m sorry.
“That is not your fault, Eds,” Steve tells him firmly. Eddie won’t look him in the eyes, so Steve grabs his chin. “Hey, look at me. Not your fault. I don’t blame you. Okay?”
Eddie shrugs, pointing to himself with a self-deprecating smile, and Steve knows what he’s trying to say. I do.
“Well I don’t,” Steve says. “But if- if you need to hear it. I forgive you, okay?”
Eddie nods, eyes big and wet, and Steve pulls him into a hug.
Eddie suddenly laughs, pulling away to wipe his eyes before saying something to Nicole.
Right. They’re not alone. “Sorry,” he tells her, but she waves him off, handing over the chalkboard again. I think we’ll start on the alphabet today. That way you can at least finger spell what you need, even if it’s slow.
“Sounds good,” he says, and she nods, talking the chalkboard to write the alphabet.
Slowly but surely, she teaches Steve and Eddie the alphabet. They get a little tripped up on some of the letters, most noticeably p and q, until Nicole takes pity on them and makes a p. She uses her other hand to draw a line down both her extended fingers, then tracing her own legs. She taps her thumb, peeking out between the two, and with a mischievous grin, points between Steve and Eddie’s legs.
They share a look and burst out laughing, but they don’t forget those letters again.
By the end of the day, they’ve gotten through the alphabet with enough regularity that Nicole feels they can practice on each other.
Steve pauses before they leave. T-h-a-n-k, then a pause, then y-o-u.
Nicole smiles, presses her fingertips to her lips, then brings her hand down to chest height, palm up. She does the motion again, and Steve copies her, grinning when she nods excitedly.
“Thank you,” he signs and says, grinning even wider when she pulls him into a quick hug before waving at him and Eddie.
They wave back and pile into the van, Steve’s hand in Eddie’s before Steve can practically blink. He smiles, unbearably fond, and squeezes to get his attention before signing, “Thank you.”
Eddie just smiles back, throws the van into reverse, and starts home. 
They practice more while they make dinner, throwing words like spatula and stir and chop around, and Steve didn’t realize learning could be this fun.
He’s watching Eddie stir the broth, hips moving in a little dance to a song only Eddie knows, and his heart is so full, he has to say something before his heart bursts. “I’m gonna say something that’s gonna sound incredibly sappy,” he says. “But just… please just listen until the end? And try not to tease me too much.”
Eddie just smiles, grabs his hand and squeezes, and Steve takes a breath before starting.
“I’m glad it’s you. I’m glad you were there that day, I’m glad you were there when I woke up at the hospital, I’m glad you were there when I realized going home meant being completely alone. I’m glad you made a complete fool of yourself in the hospital lobby, doing charades to let me know I could stay here.” He takes a breath. “I’m glad you have Nicole, because it lets me talk with you easier. I’m glad you never once let me feel like I’m alone, or like I’m going through this alone. I’m glad you’re learning with me. I’m glad you’re making this fun. I didn’t know learning could be fun, but it is with you, and I-” he takes a breath, swallows the three words that want to come out. “I’m glad it’s you,” Steve whispers, “here, at the end of all things.”
He doesn’t realize he’s crying until Eddie’s hands are cradling his cheeks, wiping away tears. Eddie’s just as teary-eyed, though, and he pulls away, looking for the notebook. Please don’t punch me.
Steve looks up, brows furrowed, to watch Eddie spell something. I l-o-v-
That’s as far as he gets before Steve gasps, understanding, or hoping he understands, and pulls Eddie into a kiss.
He pulls back almost immediately to check that’s correct, that that is what Eddie was trying to say, when Eddie pulls him back in, dinner be damned, crowding him in against the counter and doing his best to lick into Steve’s mouth.
Steve lets him, pulling away for a sharp inhale before diving right back in, fingers tight in Eddie’s hair and the back of his shirt, and there’s a sudden vibration that he just knows means Eddie moans, and suddenly he’s dizzy again, but this time he welcomes it, because this time he’s not passing out; this time, he’s dizzy because he’s drunk on love.

I’ve already seen a few people comparing the shirt Oliver is wearing with the shooting pinstripe shirt. I don’t disagree with you!
I’ve also seen the shirt being compared with the buck-tommy coffee date shirt - again I don’t think the comparison is wrong!
I do however think that maybe the bigger picture of the actual meanings of the various shirts is being missed!! So I’m here to help explain everything to you - I’m gonna take you on a walk through all of Bucks white/cream pinstripe shirts to help explain everything to you!!
Let’s start with the the colours and the colour meanings in context with Buck!
So we have white and we have cream. White on Buck when its in shirt form is generally an indicator of upcoming danger (in much the same way guest cast in check pattern (as well as the mains sometimes) means they’re the one in danger!) there are countless examples of this over the 7 and 1/2 seasons so far! White as a colour generally means purity and innocence as well as balance. But, it can also mean hope and clarity and self reflection. These are the meanings I associate most with the use of white on Buck - because although the white shirts signify danger, it is danger that brings a sense of hope and clarity to Buck, and generally leads him to a period of self reflection. We perhaps see this the most clearly with the tsunami arc - the white shirt foretells the danger Buck is about to be in (with Chris) but in the aftermath of the tsunami we get Ucks voice over and then are shown a reflective and pensive Buck just before Eddie shows up with Chris (helping to settle buck and reaffirm his reflections)
Then we have the cream - cream is a colour between white and yellow - there is a lot of implication to this - we can take the meanings of white from above, and also apply some of the meanings of yellow - so optimism, communication, clarity, curiosity, and confidence. Clarity being present in both colour meanings means this is the most important aspect of cream as a colour.
There is also the aspect of the pinstripes - there can be two main meanings attached to them - the concept of being trapped or imprisoned is the first one as they can resemble the bars of a jail cell and that connects into the use of pinstripes by mobsters and gangsters in the early to mid 20th century - thus deepening the connection to imprisonment. The alternative meaning stems back to their origin. Pinstripes in clothing were first seen in the early 19th century when they were used in the banking sector, when the different banking houses in London used different coloured pinstripes to identify their employees. It is from this historic use that the pinstripes comes to mean order, clarity and sophistication. And yes - once again we have clarity popping up!!!
So if we look at the times Buck has worn white or cream pinstripe shirts
4x13 shooting scene long sleeve white pinstripe shirt - this is the first time we see the white shirt become a pinstripe shirt and that is symbolic.

6x01 - we do have the blue and white pinstripe zip front shirt, but it is blue with white pinstripes rather than the other way around (it is relevant in this meta I promise - I will be coming back to it!)

All of these shirts are worn at really key moments for Bucks journey and connected to a very specific theme - self discovery and clarity. Not necessarily complete clarity, but the idea that things are becoming clearer for him - he is gaining more and more clarity with each white or cream pinstriped shirt - clarity of different aspects of who he is as a person. It is about the context of the scene and the episode more widely (and sometimes a couple of episodes like in the shooting arc).
The shooting shirt is about the clarity of stepping into a parental role with Chris - it is very much connected into the will reveal and the self reflection Buck does throughout this and the hope that the will reveal brings him - all things he discovers throughout the two episodes of hte shooting arc. Taylor moving into the loft and his conversation with Maddie is not about Taylor moving into the loft, it is more about the conversation with Maddie and Buck reflecting on the mistakes he has made in asking Taylor to move into the loft - the clarity around being a clinger!
The cream shirt from 6x01 is all about Buck reflecting and gaining clarity throughout hte episode about needing to be happy in his own skin - be happy with who he is - getting to know himself better, and that fits in perfectly with the cream shirt from the coffee date in 7x05 - Tommy is basically an irrelevance in this scene - he is being the plot device he was always intended to be. The episode is title ‘you don’t know me’ and the entire scene is about Buck recognising that he doesn’t know Tommy - but more importantly that he doesn’t know himself - this new part of himself that he has discovered - that he is bisexual. The scene is about buck gaining the clarity that he needs to learn more about this aspect of who he is - Tommy just represents a safe space for him to do that. The pinstripes shirt from the coma dream plays basically the same role - within a coma verse - the scene we see Buck in the pinstripes shirt is about him getting some clarity on the reality of this world he has found himself in - beginning to put the pieces together that all is not quite right in the world and that he needs to look for the answers.
The other aspect of the white and cream shirts is when we see the use of white or cream. White shirts being connected to Buck in danger in some way is the overarching theme of the white - but generally speaking the white appears as a visual representation of Bucks danger coming from external forces. The shooting,the tsunami, the coma dream shirt, and pretty much all the other times we see him in white, are all about external forces - they did not come directly from Buck himself. Whereas the cream shirts are very much connected to the inner workings of Buck - the armchair moving scene, the coffee date - both representative of Buck’s internal turmoil and inner forces being at work.
So as you can see all of these scenes are about clarity and self reflection - they are about Bucks journey to know himself and learn to love himself. This means that the new shirt we have will most definitely play into this theme. We don’t have any context for what episode or location its going to appear in because we only have a very out of context bts video to go off, but the fact it is oversized to an even greater degree than anything we’ve seen Buck in thus far, and the fact that it is cut pretty short at the waist is actually pretty revealing. I’ve spoken about the fact that Bucks clothes got increasingly smaller and ill fitting throughout season 5 and 6 and that it was symbolic of Buck not fitting in his skin any longer. This was then proven correct when we had Buck dressed in (standard) jeans for the first time and in properly fitting clothing for the first time in 7x04 when Tommy kissed him and basically revealed a part of Buck that he hadn’t been aware of - the fact the clothes now fit him pretty much perfectly in that scene revealed that he had found his fit - he was no longer under the impression he was straight - a label that didn’t fit him - and he now knew he was bi - a label that does fit him.
Since that bi awakening scene, we have been shown Bucks clothing moving in the other direction - becoming increasingly ill fitting by becoming increasingly bigger. I’ve spoken about how this was representative of the fact that whilst he now knew he was bi, he was still misunderstanding the assignment, that he wasn’t recognising that it was Eddie that he was in love with. Because the thing is - throughout season 7 and 8a, after his bi awakening, we’ve seen a variety of fits in Bucks clothing moving- from the ill fitting to the better fitting and the interesting thing is the context of when we’ve seen the ill fitting, too big clothing compared with the scenes when we’ve seen the better but still slightly too big clothing. As a general rule - scenes with buck in street clothes where the focus is on his and Eddie’s relationship - we have seen the clothes fitting him much better. Whereas the scenes where his relationship with Tommy was the focus, the clothes have been too big and baggy and ill fitting.
It a subtle way of conveying to the audience the reality of things - the costumes play their part in cluing the audience into the fact that Tommy is not a good fit for Buck, but that Eddie is. Becasue this is actually something that can be traced back to Bucks too small clothing era as well - often times his clothes fit better when he was in scenes with Eddie (and Chris) and less well fitting in scenes with Taylor, or later with Natalia, or indeed scenes with characters such as Connor and Kameron. There was the general overarching fit of being too small, but that was less pronounced in scenes with Eddie.
So the fact this new shirt is soooo very oversized - to an extent we’ve yet to see and to the point of swamping him (impressive considering the man is a unit!) - the grey goodbye to Eddie shirt might also joint the ranks of this, but I’m holding fire on that one for the moment as I want to see better quality stills or video! This shirt in particular is very telling becasue we have the dual aspects of the shirt being both too small and too big - too small because the cut is short, and too big because it is so oversized - its really playing into his spiralling out after Eddies departure in a big way. My personal feeling is that in line with white shirt theory, we are going to be watching Buck go through the ringer - but likely in an internalised way, because this new shirt is definitely in the cream side of the spectrum - much lighter than the other two cream shirts, so I’m expecting to see some external happenings as well, but I think it is much more inner turmoil we’ll be seeing. I also think the idea of being imprisoned is also relevant - the idea that Buck is trapped in his own head as he starts to realise the nature of his feelings and the fact he has lost Eddie (or thinks he has) just as he’s realising he loves him. Of course this is speculation on my part, but speculation grounded in my studies and understanding of the costuming on 911 - especially when it comes to Buck and Eddie!
These shirts also sit in tandem with his white high tops - the ones that represent his wider journey to find himself and his family - to find his happiness. We’ve seen a bit of a step back on the shite high top front in seasons 7 and 8a so far, but we have had other white trainers used and I think we’re just transitioning shoe to fit in better with the new clothing styles and that it is white shoes more generally rather than those specific high tops that represent that ongoing journey.
The other thing that sits in parallel with the white and cream pinstripe shirts is the shirts with pinstripes in the opposite colour way - dark shirt with light pinstripes.

All of these shirts represent moments of Buck doing the opposite of the white and cream shirts - these are all scenes where Buck is effectively harming his journey forward - they are scenes where his clarity becomes clouded, where he is unable to be self reflective - when he has false hope, or when his mind is obfuscated - so the happenings in those scenes leads him away from his path. The way the dark pinstripe shirts nearly always follow a light coloured pinstripe shirt is very telling - the idea of the dark shirt clouding his previous clarity that the white or cream shirt had brought him - almost as if he was making progress and processing things - moving forward - only the darkness rolls in and we see Buck basically locking away his progress - locking away any clarity he was gaining.
The dark shirts are all about leading him away from his true path. The white shooting shirt in 4x13 is followed by the black shirt in 4x14 when Taylor chases Buck - obfuscating him from his path towards Eddie. The 5x13 white shirt - when he chats with Maddie and starts to understand what he’s done by asking Taylor to move in, is preceded (in this single case) by the awkward ILY scene in 5x09 - he’s already got clouded judgement (because of Eddie) and even though he’s gained clarity he can’t walk it back - but we do see him confessing later in 5x13, perhaps suggesting that his clarity is that he needs to be honest with himself and with those around him.
Then we have the 6x01 cream shirt followed by the navy pinstripe shirt in 6x04 when Buck agrees to become a sperm donor - once more Buck veering off course. And remember the blue zip up shirt with the cream pinstripes from 6x01 - yeah coming back to those now, because those three shirts all play in tandem with one another. The blue shirt is in Bucks blue - the blue he wears when he is his truest self - the blue we see connected to Eddie most frequently. The scene has Eddie in yellow for the first time and Bucks pinstripes more or less match Eddies shirt - followed at the end of the episode by the cream one with the blue stripes - and very much part of a scene about Buck deciding to figure himself out before he looks for love. The more I watch that scene and look at the context with the other pinstripes shirts the more convinced I become that the lasagne scene was the set up for Buddie canon had we ended the show at the end of season 6. The whole thing was setting up buck to figure himself out - figure out he’s bi and in love with Eddie. I obviously cannot prove it, but the pieces are all there to play into that being Bucks intended arc - the sperm donor arc was likely meant to actually be a wider arc about Bucks desire for family and about learning he already made one - about learning and understanding families come in all shapes and sizes and that you can build one if you want to - that he already has.
Then we have the coma shirt followed by the ring cutter shirt. The pairing is maybe a little less obvious here, but there is something about the idea that Buck is gaining awareness of being trapped in his mind whilst oblivious to the reality of his sexuality. The coma dream shirt is about him beginning to figure out that the reality he is in is not his actual reality - its about making him begin to question what he actually knows and understands about himself and that spins out into the wider plot for the coma dream -about getting back to his family. It makes the lack of Eddie in his dream even more pronounced - that he’s figuring out that he has a family who loves him and is there for him, but that he still isn’t in a place to look at the romantic aspect of love. The ring cutter scene is really about Buck once again mistaking sexual attraction with romantic attraction - it is tied into Natalia and into Bucks death - there is a connection to this idea of looking in the wrong places (hence why he can’t find the ring cutter in the kitchen utensils pot - which is where it would be if sex and romance were actually aligned - because love is found in the kitchen!) Natalia is sexual attraction - not romantic.
The trio of the BT first date, coffee date and then the third date (that we are shown on screen) the pattern is a bit more like the Taylor ILY/ Maddie conversation shirts i that we have clouded/obfuscated Buck to start with - the kiss has confused him, and the date has also confused him - it is about him not actually looking at himself and recognising who he is - it is also a bit about the fact that he’s misunderstood his jealousy - that if Tommy hadn’t kissed him, he may well have eventually figured things out and realised that it was actually Eddies attention he was after and the full reality of that - which is what the Maddie conversation is all about. The cream shirt in this trio is then about Buck recognising the need to work on himself - the need to explore who he is more fully and also recognising that Tommy is essentially a safe space to do that - he literally says that he doesn’t know what it is yet but he wants to find out - it isn’t about Tommy, its much more about his self - that he doesn’t;t know how this new label he has fits him yet, fits into what he wants from life, but he wants to embrace it and find out. The subsequent move into brown on the third shown date, is all about that obfuscation coming back in - that Buck is very much in family mode - worried about Bobby - but Tommy distracts him with sexual innuendo and the implication is there in the subtext that this is a relationship based on sex rather than on love and knowledge. Which is what we then see play out through 8a.
All this to say that the new oversized whilst also too short shirt is in my opinion really going to help play into Bucks spiral out in the absence of Eddie and that it will be worn in a scene that is about Buck finding some clarity around Eddie and his potential return to fuck boy Buck and why he has gone down that route - be that his full OHHH moment or something else I can’t really guess at, but the fact it might be a scene with Hen is interesting to me as we’ve seen Buck go to Hen when faced with some difficult decisions - and I will confess the idea that he’s going to talk to her about missing Eddie and feeling lost and not knowing what he’s feeling - not understanding and that she might help him into his ohhhhh moment is a rather delicious one to me. I’m expecting this to be a scene in 811 or 812, I think it’s coming after Eddie has left for Texas at he end of 810 (because I believe the goodbye scene will be in the last 10-15 minutes of 810), and that it will be towards the end of his spiral when his abandonment issues are causing the most havoc with him - because we’ve gone to extreme on the oversizing - so it has to be at the point just before Buck is able to start finding himself, to stop over correcting and beginning to fit in his own skin - when we will see the costumes begin to fit him better again - up to the point where we hit perfect fit - which will be at the point Buck is either ready to fight for Eddie, or at the moment Buddie goes canon. I will write another post about the Eddie goodbye costumes - I have many thoughts - and about the fit and styling of Bucks uniform in the maroon teeter totter car, but it is late and I need to go to bed so you’ll have to wait until tomorrow or Friday for that one!

Things I make for myself when insomnia kicks in
Just a chart about what I wanna change up and keep consistent in my art - I mainly wanna draw Raph with a tail because he deserves one, it fits too well. Donnie gets a long tail too because I didn’t realize how dino-like he looks until I gave him one, and now it’s a must for me haha.
