Okay so a few things about the ending to the DLC. Spoilers below obviously

-Really REALLY disappointed they didn’t go with the whole toxic possession arc thing with Kieran and the new mythical (Pecharunt?) TO BE FAIR that was more of a fan theory than anything but it was one that made a lot of sense and had a lot of evidence to back it up. I guess I got too attached to the idea and was inevitably let down when the game didn’t go in that direction. Still it would have made more sense to give that extra edge as to why Kieran’s treating everyone so awfully,, and having him finally break free of that control during the final fight VS Terapagos would have been SO sick. Either that or before we even get to Terapagos Carmine calls Kieran out and that’s when he finally fucking explodes and rages and vents about his inferiority complex—and THAT is what summons Pecharunt, those negative feelings that it probably feeds off of or smth idk. Then we’d get a split second of Kieran finally being back in control and begging for help. And then Carmine realizing her brother has been under the influence of this Pokemon the entire time and. Okay I’m getting off track into AU territory now lmao sorry moving on

-Switching back to the Terapagos fight, I really enjoyed it! It wasn’t too long of a fight to be drawn out, but it was just long enough that it didn’t feel anticlimactic (also the MUSIC? STELLAR. Pun intended). ALSO ARGHFHH the five stages of grief Kieran goes through in that fight to finally accepting that he’s been going about this the wrong way and has been an awful friend and the way the LIGHT COMES BACK INTO HIS EYES I ALMOST CRIED. This is 10000x more emotional and powerful if you choose to bring Ogerpon with you and fight with her bc that really just. Hammers in the fact that despite all the bad blood and bitterness, Kieran still chooses to fight alongside you and the Pokemon he coveted so much…AND he even processes things enough to fully let go of all his hatred and anger and allows you to catch Terapagos because he KNOWS you’ll take good care of it and after all this time he still trusts you even though he’d probably hate to admit it. #GOOD WRITING

-Something really scary I realized. Kieran brought a Master Ball with him to catch Terapagos. 1. Where did homie even get that. 2. The fact that he was READY and didn’t even give Terapagos a chance to react, that he was essentially catching it against its will (which probably led to its power going out of control), that he was enforcing his own twisted desires and beliefs onto it and not considering its feelings (sound familiar? Looks at Ogerpon). BOY. 3. We’ve only ever seen ONE other person use Master Balls in SV. The AI Professor. I don’t know if this is significant in any way but if the Pecharunt theory WAS true that would make them so so similar and that’s eerie to me. Two characters controlled by something greater than them that they can’t fight…can you imagine how INSANE the dynamics would be listen to me

-Another thing I was kinda disappointed about was Briar? I guess I was just picking up on the vibes that she was actually a villain and would try to steal Terapagos from the player, but I probably gave Nintendo too much credit on that one lol. I do like that she’s not inherently evil, she’s just too absorbed and obsessed with her research to really pay attention to what’s going on around her. BUT. They should have pushed that WAY further. Either commit and do the full villain arc where she snatches Terapagos from Kieran right after he catches it to use it for her own purposes, or pressure him into Terastallizing it so much that it makes him uncomfortable. I want to see Lusamine levels of unhinged obsession. What she had was just a little bit too excited about Area Zero, not a full blown unhealthy and dangerous thing that puts everyone around her in danger.

-Following up on that. Drayton. I kept expecting him to also go villain arc IDK LOL I guess I want everyone to be gay do crime in this DLC 😂 But I seriously kept thinking he was just using the player to knock Kieran off his throne so he could take it right back from us. But no he actually genuinely cared about Kieran and kept pressuring us to beat the Elite Four so WE could knock some sense into him since Drayton wasn’t strong enough to do it himself. Which is a very sweet sentiment, I think :’) But am I the only one who was like bro calm down right after the fight where he was getting up in Kieran’s face and calling him ex-champion…..either he’s way too honest and doesn’t realize he was being cruel OR he was doing it on purpose to be a silly goober (but everyone else was like DUDE. LOW blow.)

-I still have questions. HELLO. HELLO. The notes in Area Zero mentioned the professor meeting a child with a white(?) book? Is that the Scarlet/Violet book? We still don’t know how the whole time travel paradox happened and why Heath talked about meeting Paradox Pokemon DECADES before the professor even brought them to Area Zero through the time machine? What is with the weird ass crystal tree sitting in the middle of a lake in the depths? Is there any significance to the Crystal Pool in Kitakami being connected to terastallizing and Area Zero? I’M JUST. AGHHH. I’m fairly certain we’re getting more content, maybe an epilogue to the DLCs but I’m going CRAZY I NEED TO KNOW NOWWW

-Also isn’t Area Zero like. Top secret hush hush. Why did Geeta let Briar publish a whole ass book about the HIDDEN SECRET of Area Zero that was miles under a closed off SECRET lab. I thought they were denying Briar access to Area Zero for YEARS, probably because they didn’t want her blabbing to the public. Idk. Maybe my memory is fuzzy on that one. Just feels very contradictory fhhdd

-The small little subtleties of Kieran regaining his regular personality as we went down….I ADORED that. His little smiles and him unable to contain his childish excitement and Carmine smiling at him with a knowing look bc after all this time her brother is FINALLY acting more like himself. And Kieran trying to brush it off like “wh-whatever” like he’s some sort of edgy teenager pretending he doesn’t care. GAHHHH it was so cute I wanted to cry 😭

ALL IN ALL it didn’t QUITE meet my expectations but it was still really good, especially considering this was all DLC content. Nothing will ever EVER top the main story of SV but the entirety of TTM and TID came pretty darn close. Kieran my sweet baby boy my blorbo I’m so glad you got your redemption arc and that you finally came to terms with your perception of strength and how it affects others. Baller DLC Nintendo do it again 👏

Writing Commissions

These are pretty much only gonna be for drabbles and oneshots and the prices are as follows: 

$10 per 500-1000 word drabble

+$5 per every 500 words over that base 1000 (max I’ll do is 5000 words)

Name: Mario Land

Debut: Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins

So I was lying awake in bed, thinking. What is up with Mario Land? Everyone knows that the setting of the first Super Mario Land game is Sarasaland. Nintendo loves to vaguely allude to it in character descriptions for Princess Daisy! But where does Super Mario Land 2 take place? Well, it’s in Mario Land, of course! Now, Super Mario Land does not take place in Mario Land. It takes place in a Land, in which Mario is a participant, but he doesn’t own the Land, just as he doesn’t own the World or the Galaxy. But he does own Mario Land!

Nothing is really clear about how Mario came to own Mario Land. Nintendo Power once described it as his ‘kingdom’, while the Wiki describes it as Mario’s ‘private island’. Lots of people immediately remark on how odd it is that Mario owns a castle in this game, and they’re right! It is odd! We don’t think of Mario as an avaricious man. He is a humble, working class individual. He lives in a cottage with his brother despite being a world-renowned hero. Except here, where he owns an entire landmass, with a castle! My personal canon, in my head, was that Peach or someone else gifted him with a large chunk of land and a castle as a reward for his heroic deeds. It seems the most likely, given what we know about Mario! But why couldn’t he settle for a vacation home, or anything of the sort? Why are we placing the responsibility of land ownership on such a modest soul? 

I think what is the strangest thing about Mario Land, to me, is that despite being Mario’s Land, it is so devoid of allies. Mario Land is vast and untamed, a collection of wacky themed zones filled with creatures entirely hostile to Mario! There are no maids or servants from Mario’s Castle, who fled Wario’s invasion. There are no Toads or Toad houses to aid Mario in his quest. Mario is entirely alone in a Land that bears his name, but his name only. Once his only symbol of power, his castle, is gone, Mario is back where he began, all alone in this foreign land. All the material goods in the world could not fill the void of - wait I’m sorry I completely forgot a key detail of Mario Land 2’s plot is that Wario put all of Mario Land’s inhabitants under a spell! False alarm everyone!

Everyone in Mario Land is actually Super Nice actually and was just brainwashed by Wario, who has the power of dark magic. The Big Bird from Tree Zone and the Octopus from Turtle Zone, and also Spikey, they all love Mario and see him as their king. I was gonna say the Witch too, but it seems the witch was Wario’s friend. Or are they Wario’s minions? If so, where are the inhabitants of Mario Land? Are they in hiding? We never see them! Who does Mario rule over? Is Spikey a wild animal? A brainwashed citizen of Mario’s country? Or an ally of the wicked and greedy Wario?

And of course, we have to discuss the matter of the Mario Zone. Mario was not content with having a Land, he needed to have a Zone in that Land, which is also Mario! It is actually one big Mario, a mechanical automaton built in his likeness. Mario has always expressed an interest in making toys of himself, as we see in the Mario Vs. Donkey Kong series, so it stands to reason that his major construction project would be just that, but bigger! 

Or maybe the Mario Zone always existed, before Mario came to Mario Land. Maybe it’s named Mario Land because one of its most famous natural formations is a giant wind-up toy that looks like Mario! And Mario’s Castle is named that by coincidence. I don’t know! I don’t have answers to any questions, ever! I literally don’t know anything! I’m going to bed!

Just kidding! I’m not going to bed. This post is a bit, um... rambly. But I thought it would be a shame to conclude it without appreciating how whimsical Mario Land is as a whole! There is a giant pumpkin with haunted woods inside it! There is a hippo that takes you to space! There is a turtle that swallows you and takes you underwater to a whale! There is a house that is just kind of a normal house but forces you to be really small to enter it! But I probably don’t need to tell you all that! It’s kind of what makes SML2 so wonderful!

This is gonna be a weird ask, but you NEED to watch Princess Mononoke from Studio Ghibli. The characters from my profile picture are from the movie, and it’s SOOOO GOOD.

I would genuinely get into a fight about it being the best film Studio Ghibli has made.

The reason I want you to watch it is because it is eerily similar to BOTW and TOTK, and I’m like 90% convinced that Nintendo took inspiration from the movie lol.

i heard princess mononoke is sad which i why i keep putting it off, but i’ll take this as a sign to watch it this weekend. i already know i’m gonna like it which is why i bought a princess monoke shirt years ago despite not having watched it yet (i’m a fake fan, i know)

one thing i’ve loved about zelda games is that on the surface it looks like a western knight game but it’s actually a heavily asian-inspired game complete with forest yokai, dragon gods, and literal ninjas. i just love the aesthetic of zelda games. so cool.

also i’m sorry to say but porco rosso is the best ghibli movie, don’t come for me, i love the little red pig more than anything else

Do you mind if I ask your top 10 favorite characters (can be male or female) from all of the media that you loved (can be anime/manga, books, games, movies or tv series)? And why do you love them? Sorry if you've answered this question before.....Thanks...

Oh for sure. I’ll tell you my list of favourite characters from the media that I consume:

1.) Matakara Asamine (BUCCHIGIRI?!)- It is no secret that ever since this anime aired, he has become one of my top fav anime character. Character-wise, I love how he is the sunshine puppy childhood friend character but with some depth like dealing with inner demons regarding his lonely past and insecurities and it kind of goes to show that Mata is not your typical cheerful sunny character as he underwent a corruption arc back in Episode 9.

2.) Diamant (Fire Emblem Engage)- I’m pretty sure if you guys have scoured through my art blogs on my second art account and Twitter, you would realize I tend to draw fanart of him all the time. But as for why I like him. I like how he genuinely tried to reach out people outside of his kingdom that doesn’t need to involve war and bloodshed. He only gets angry/resort to violence if his loved ones or people closest to him are targeted (like the Morion incident) and that he also has major insecurities involving his duties as the Crown Prince. Oh and he also has a funny side to him like laughing at the most corniest joke that his retainer Amber has done. Oh and his relationship with Alcryst and Citrinne are the best too.

3.) Princess Peach (Super Mario Bros)- Gonna throw in some women in my list because it ain’t fair if I talk about hot dudes all the time but really I’ve been playing Peach’s second solo game since yesterday and I’m instantly in love with it. Now as for her character, she is a darling. She can be baking a cake one day, doing her royal duties another day or just go out and have fun with Mario and friends. But really, Peach is Nintendo’s most iconic female character of all time due to how she showcases that being girly and being badass aren’t mutually exclusive and that they can go hand to hand (Amy Rose is of similar vein too as well) and that whilst a pacifist, she won’t hesitate to get her hands dirty.

4.) Tooru Kirishima (The Yakuza’s Guide to Babysitting)- If anyone from 2022 has remembered how much I talk about this man, then yeah. Anyways, I just love how despite being an extremely violent yakuza enforcer, he’s actually a kind, quiet and socially awkward man but can be a bit of a tease towards his closest friends and family (have you seen the man interacting with the mum’s in Yaeka’s school?). His relationship with Yaeka started out awkward at first but over time, you see them geniunely bonding with one another. But that being said, it’s not best if you get to his super scary side if you piss him off more than once. Also, I have a weakness for scary men (sometimes women) with a heart of gold to them. He’s my silly little meow meow

5.) Takina Inoue (Lycoris Recoil)- I got into the anime pretty late last year despite being released alongside The Yakuza’s Guide to Babysitting in the Summer 2022 anime lineup but yeah I love Takina. She originally started out as a cold and ruthless girl who follows orders to a tee without being aware of the dangers she posed but after meeting Chisato, her worldview changed for the better in that she became a much kinder person than the cold hearted assassin she was before. She can be slightly awkward with her interactions, a bit straight faced with embarrassing things but that doesn’t hide the fact that she can and WILL kill for her loved ones if they’re in any danger (she’s basically a female Kirishima lol). Oh and I love her voice actresses performance so that’s why she is my fav. (Tho if you ask me who I like more, it’s Xanthe)

6.) Penny (Pokèmon Scarlet and Violet)- Penny is one of the Pokèrivals I just vibe and relate with because like her, I’m a huge nerd when it comes to anime that I like and we are also introverts too. She is blunt and rude yes but she’s a child who is capable of growing, as shown in the DLC epilogue where she began to take notice of how Arlan pointed out that her dad cares for her and that unlike him, she at least have families who love and care for her. (Oh and she has a party full of Eeveelutions, what’s not to love?) Oh and I recommend checking out her storyline because it’s amazing.

7.) Kiyoshi Teppei (Kuroko’s Basketball)- Like with Kirishima, I was also constantly crazy about this lil guy back in 2021-2022. Now I know he was introduced pretty late in Season 1 out of nowhere with no buildup, but he quickly became one of my favs because of how he is a teddy bear personified, can be a little dumb and unaware of the things he do but all he wanted to do is just have fun. Oh and he can display a selfish side if his friends are in any danger (Kirisaki game arc). His chemistry with literally anyone in the Seirin team is just too good but I like the ones with Hyuuga cuz you can te the VA’s are clearly having fun with voicing them.

8.) Souma Shiki (Play it Cool Guys)- Out of all the five main guys, I identify with Souma the most and the reason why is that like him, I’m trying to find things that I enjoy the most but sometimes feel insecure about it as well. The way he just laughs is just too plain adorable and his chemistry with the main cast, especially the ones with Shun is mostly enjoyable. Definetely one of my favs.

9.) Mitsumi Iwakura (Skip and Loafer)- Something that me like Mistumi is that out of all the female main characters that I have seen so far is just how confident, ambitious and reassured she is. Sure, Mitsu makes some mistakes here and there but it’s justified in that she’s moving to an environment that she’s completely unfamiliar with but still she tries her best with the things said environment provides her. Oh and any scene with her is just so enjoyable because of how endearingly innocent and awkward she is and that she is also trying her best in what she’s doing.

10.) Jing Yuan (Honkai Star Rail)- Listen I know that prior to being “fixed” in later updates, many ppl aren’t too keen in using him due to how his gameplay style wasn’t really the best and how other Lightining damage dealers like Kafka and Serval beats him. But I hardly saw anyone talked about his character so here I am. I think what made me fascinated about Jing Yuan’s character is that even if he appears to be slovenly and sleepy looking all the time, he is pretty shrewd and calculating when the situation calls for it. He is also a pretty nice guy and that despite having deep issues with his former comrades in the Cloud Quintet, he tries his best to stay strong as possible to the point of being self-sacrificial. That and he is one of my “Not Gay BUT-” type of characters.

It's all good! I never expected to get a quick answer, as I sent so many questions and kind of knew you'd probably have to think about some of them. I was going to comment directly on the post, but character limit caught me, ugh.

I don't know why but I can imagine most angels kind of being a bit bitchy, so I totally understand Neil! I'd probably do the same lol I hope Andrew at some point just starts buying clothes for Neil, like Andrew one day just shows up with one bag in hand and just gives it to him, no justification whatsoever. But… if it's the clothes Neil died in, do they have blood? Or did they get magically cleaned? How physical is he when he's walking around invisible? Does he have to constantly dodge people when walking around? (That sounds so fucking annoying, I constantly have to do that myself) If somebody spilled sauce in whatever place he's supposed to be currently occupying, would he end up full of sauce? Do his clothes ever get dirty? I'm just envisioning him walking to a laundromat to put them to wash, and just hanging out invisible and shirtless while he's waiting for it to be done.

I'm dying to know what Incident you're talking about! I'm like "feeed me moreeee".

Aaahh, was the part "Unless there are any other semi-invisible people in it." in the last wip post a reference to Kevin's guardian angel?? Is it someone we know? Also also, is there somebody extra in the team (since they couldn't recruit Neil)?

I'm glad to help! I'm glad I can contribute a bit to the story, it makes me happy. I definitely get the blurry weeks too, even months tbh. I haven't been much better, but I'm alright. The best I can possibly be atm. Unfortunately I'm not familiar with Webkinz, I didn't play that many games as a child. I had a Nintendo DS, tho. I miss my Super Mario Bros :') Anyway, just try to take one day at a time, you know? <3

You’re absolutely right about the other angels. Like, “Uh… this kid looks insane and also he’s talking to his charge? That’s… not allowed. We are not messing with him. No thank you.” 

Also omg that would be really cute. Andrew just throwing a plastic bag in Neil's lap and sitting down beside him. Neil just: What’s this? | Andrew: I'm tired of looking at that hoodie so I got you one that's not ripped all to hell.

Neil’s clothes aren’t bloody, thankfully. (Oh my god. Can you imagine the night Andrew met Neil if he’d been covered with dried blood? That would’ve gone so differently. And badly. :’)) But no. His clothes had been miracled clean. Like, when he ‘woke up’ to the bright light, he was clean.

Neil doesn’t generally get out of the way. If a human walks through him, that’s their business. (They will experience a sudden chill, but Neil doesn’t know that he has that effect. And he doesn’t care. Lol.) 

Ooh. That’s interesting. So let’s see… If, for example, Neil were sitting in the dining hall with Andrew and the monsters— invisibly of course— and someone spilled something on him… I think I’ve gotta say it would just… get all over him.

And Neil would accidentally pop into Andrew-mode because the shock of suddenly being doused with soda or soup or whatever would have him ‘letting go of the button’. Andrew would likely get choked, Neil might have to do this invisible heimlich maneuver… It would be… Not good. Hilarious, but not good. 

So that’s why Neil typically chills on the roof whenever Andrew isn’t Traveling. Less of a chance to majorly fuck up if he’s not around all the humans. :)

Yes, Neil’s clothes sometimes feel dirty to him. He’s since learned to magic them clean. :) A lot of trial and error on his part. Luckily he doesn’t have to strip naked and wash his clothes in the dorm’s laundry room. Lmao. Naked angel vibing in the corner. Gkldjglk

Also! Not really. Andrew was mainly just being a smart ass! :) He likes to do that. (We do know Kevy's angel.)

As for the team. No. Janie is still there, but otherwise they haven’t got any other new players. See, Kevin had picked out this striker for them to go see. Out in some tiny town in Arizona. But before they could fly out to see him play, his coach called Wymack to say he’d up and transferred suddenly with only a month left before graduation. Didn’t say where he was moving to or why he was leaving. Kevin was devastated that they’d lost this kid because he could tell he had potential. :((

First Off: THE BIGGEST HEADACHE OF MY CAREER HAS ENDED FOR THIS YEAR! I'm officially on a break and I'm going to enjoy myself! I can't even begin to tell you how much this past work year has been so draining.

Second: There are a few prompts for this chapter that were given to me by some wonderful fans…and I don't remember who they are. So! If you recognize a prompt from below and you know you sent that into me, message me on here or on my Tumblr! I'll update as I get names.

Third: Beyond this chapter, there are two more long one shots before the end of the 2nd Season. After that, I'm giving myself some time to work on Season 3 and (hopefully) be better prepared to post more regularly for that new season. But we'll see how it goes.

Fourth: This chapter was supposed to be up yesterday. But work got in the way. Sorry.

1. E. Gadd

Mario faltered when, upon opening the front door, found a large, heavy looking box before him. Just barely able to make out Wario’s feet sticking out from the other side. 

“Um, good morning?” Mario called out.

“Are you going to move or do I need to just hand this over.”

“Oh, ah, right, sorry.”

The hero shuffled to the side, allowing Wario to rather uncomfortably waddle his way in. Both wincing at how heavy said item sounded as it was dropped onto the floor. 

“What in Grambi’s name did you buy?” Wario panted out as he wiped his brow. 

“Nothing! Where did you even find it?”

“On your front step.”

“Well…does it have a name on it?”

There were a few moments spent on searching the box over. Wario letting out a cry of triumph. “Got it! It’s for…Luigi. With your name kind of scribbled on here kind of last minute feel. You know? Like, you were an extreme afterthought.”

“Sure. Does it say who it’s from?”

“Nope, nothing that I’m seeing.” 

Mario frowned in confusion. “We weren’t expecting anything…” 

They both looked up upon hearing footsteps on the stairs. Finding Luigi walking down with his own look of confusion on his face, eyes focused on the box. 

“What did we get?”

 “Don’t know. But it’s technically for you.” Wario answered.

“Me?”

“Well, Mario’s name is on here too. But I think it’s mainly for you.”

Making his way further down, Luigi looked the box over before opening it slowly. Just in case there was something dangerous waiting inside. But removing the lid revealed it to be nothing more than a large and very strange looking screen. One that had numerous wires and tubes of multiple strange looking liquids contained inside. All connected together in a rather convoluted set up that made all present absolutely confused. 

“Why does it smell like oil and…coffee beans?” Wario cautiously commented as he sniffed the air.

“Can we get it out of there?” Luigi asked. 

“Yeah, hold on. Let me take care of this.”

Mario and Luigi moved back slightly as Wario reached into the box. Both watched on as the contraption was shifted over to the kitchen table. A quiet sigh of relief sounded as the table took the weight of it all easily. 

As Wario caught his breath once more, Mario plucked off a folded piece of paper that had been taped to the bottom of the screen. Opening it to read, “Dear brothers (specifically Luigi).”

Wario let out a weak chuckle at that.

Ignoring the sound, Mario continued on, “Considering what you’ve experienced, I figured it would be best to stay connected. And, as letters would take far too long to spread information, I’ve taken it upon myself to build this wonderful contraption! When you’re able to, hit the large red button on the side.”

All three nervously eyed said button.

“I-Is it signed?” Luigi asked.

“No, and that’s all we have for instructions.”

“Don’t suppose your Bean boyfriend made this?” Wario suggested.

“No,” Luigi shook his head, “we exchange letters only.”

All so wound up, the three jumped when Polterpup happily phased through the ceiling. Practically dancing around the contraption in joy. Looking back towards Luigi expectedly after a few moments.

“W-Well, Polterpup s-seems to think it’s o-okay.”

“They’re also a ghost,” Wario frowned, “I don’t think explosions will harm them like it’ll harm us if this thing explodes.”

“Still…” Cautiously, Luigi reached past the spectral pup to push said button.

The contraption let out the most horrendous noise. All living beings scrambling away, even back into the living room, hands over their ears while Polterpup remained sitting on the chair. As the noise grew and the ground even began to shake, Wario collected the twins close to shield them with his body as best he could. 

It was unclear how long they waited. But as the horrible sound reached its peak, there was a small ‘ding!’ and it fell quiet once more.

They didn’t move.

Polterpup began to bark happily.

It was still tensely quiet. 

“Wait, wait, wait- ah! Stupid tubes… Polterpup! Wonderful to see you again!”

“Wait a minute.” Wario grumbled. 

“Is that…” Mario raised a brow.

Luigi wiggled out of Wario’s hold to run back into the kitchen. On the screen was Professor Elvin Gadd. Strange glasses turned away from the eager Polterpup to Luigi, who was standing in the doorway with a smile on his face.

“Professor!” Luigi beamed as he claimed the seat in front of the screen once Polterpup moved.

“Luigi, my boy! Wonderful to see you again. How are you?”

“I’m…I’m good. Did you make this?”

“Yes! One of my better inventions. A one way visual communicator so that we can check in better. I call it the ‘Social Networking Ecto-System.”

“Could you put your name on your invention next time.” Wario said as he and Mario walked in.

“I did! My logo is on the front. Right on top of the screen.”

All eyes went up to where E. Gadd was pointing. Sure enough, embossed on the screen frame, was a very abstract image of the professor. Only recognizable by the wide swirling glasses and the swirl of hair. 

“I said ‘name’, not logo. How were we supposed to know that was you? It barely looks like you!” Wario argued back.

“But I did put my brand on it.”

As Wario groaned, Mario pulled another chair over to sit in front of the screen as well. “Uh, hey professor. We weren’t expecting to hear from you so soon. Especially like this. Is everything okay?”

“Fine! Everything is fine. I just realized that I had no easy way to contact you all. And with that whole Boo situation, a quick way to connect would be best for all parties.”

“So you made some sort of combination of garbage?” Wario asked. Shooting Mario a challenging glare when the hero turned to stare him down. 

“Well, one works with what one has. Innovation is the mother of necessity and what not.”

“Maybe we should tell everyone about cell phones.” Luigi whispered to Mario, who nodded.

“Either way, I would suggest setting this up somewhere that won’t disrupt your normal state of being.”

“I’m…sure we’ll figure something out.” Luigi replied while peering around the area he could see from his seat.

“Hey, professor, could we ask you something?” Mario quickly voiced. 

“Of course!”

“You’re…human, correct?”

Gadd still before letting out a hearty laugh. “Yes, yes I am! Apology for the delay there, I really had to think about it for a moment. You spend enough years here you tend to forget what you are.”

“And spend that entire time alone.” Wario stated in a low tone.

“So, you came from Earth as well.” said Mario after casually hitting the larger brother in the stomach.

“Indeed I did.”

“Do you remember how you got here?”

“Oh, it probably wasn’t much different from your experience. I was a younger ghost hunter. Trying my hand at unique, untouched potential. A few years into my work I found a building in a rather interesting place.”

“Interesting how?” Luigi asked. 

“Well, first off, it was deep underground. I found an altar of some kind with that familiar green pipe in the center of it all. I’d never seen a set up as such before. With how thick the surrounding walls were, it was pretty clear the area was supposed to be sealed away forever.”

The twins shared a look, but didn’t interrupt. 

“My equipment pulled me towards said pipe. There was a huge surge of energy coming from it. In hindsight, I should have been a bit more careful.” 

“You fell in.” Mario started weakly.

“Fell, pushed, pulled, overall it doesn’t matter. All I truly remember was standing in the ruins for one moment and the next second I was this world. And I’ve been here ever since.”

“Has anyone else known that you’re here?” Wario asked. 

“Oh, plenty of people! While I may enjoy my solitude and working with ghosts, I do need to interact with others. This is just the only time people of significance were aware of me. Met a few big personalities in my time. Oh the adventures I’ve had.”

It fell quiet as E. Gadd happily reminisced on his past outings. The other three thinking over what they’d just been told. 

“Well, anyway, I’ve eaten up enough of your time!” E. Gadd said with a smile, “Make sure you put this up somewhere you can easily get to it but it’s out of the way. Hopefully I can meet that other brother, seem to be missing him constantly. Call me if you need anything!”

“Of course.”

“Thank you, Professor.”

“Don’t do anything crazy out there.”

The screen went blank and the three remained still for a few moments.

Wario eventually clapped his hands, “Welp, you two have fun figuring out where to put that monstrosity.”

“You aren’t going to help?”

“Sorry, Mini-Me. This is a you two issue.”

“Wario-”

“Have fun!”

“Wait, why did you even come over! Why are you here!?”

2. Sick Day

“Just let me die.” Waluigi grumbled out, staring up at the ceiling without actually looking at it. His face was flushed, hair matted to his head from sweat. He barely flinched as a hand half-heartedly landed on his shoulder. 

“Shut up,” Wario said, voice cracking, “It’s not that bad.”

The eldest brother sounded horrible, broken and sore. The normal deep bags under his eyes now a darker color. Said eyes unfocused as he stared at basically nothing. 

Waluigi gave a weak growl, “Get your hand offa me…”

“No…”

“You’re making me hot…”

“Deal with it.”

“You absolute-” Waluigi flinched when Wario’s hand now landed on his face.

“Don’t curse.”

“You-”

“Don’t do it.”

Letting out a small sigh, Peach placed the tray down to step between the brothers. “Enough you two. At least you have energy to fight each other.”

All she received in return were muted and stuffed moans. Both retreat back to their bed, hiding under the thick blanket covering them. With them now just glaring at different parts of the medical wing. Again, not fully taking in what they were looking at. 

At least they were going to be quiet for a while.

Picking the tray back up, Peach made her way to the last occupied bed. Mario was snoring softly, cheeks a deep red, his limbs sprawled out and hanging off the bed. The blanket was bunched up at the foot.

Pulling up a chair, Peach placed the tray on the bedside table. She focused on the small pile of half-frozen cloths stacked there. Picking one up and placing it on Mario’s heated skin. Almost instantly, the ice melted away and chilled water poured out. Mario let out a small whine as his eyes slowly opened.

“I didn’t mean to wake you.” Peach whispered gently as she placed another cloth on his chest. 

“It’s fine…” Mario muttered weakly, eyes trying to focus on the princess. 

“Have you been sleeping okay?”

“...Yeah?”

Peach laughed softly, “You sure about that?”

“I mean… I think I’ve been sleeping…”

“I’ll see if we have anything that could help you.”

Weakly shaking his head, Mario replied back with, “It all just burns up…”

“Oh dear, well, we’ll still try and figure something out. How about we schedule another ice bath for you?” Peach smiled softly, gently replacing the towels with one of the frozen ones. 

“...How’s Luigi?”

“He’s fine. A little worried about all of you. But he’s fine.”

“...You’d tell me if he wasn’t, right?”

“Of course I would. I’d never lie about something like that. But I need you to relax, okay? You’re all in safe hands.” 

That seemed to ease whatever worry that was gripping Mario. His shoulders relaxed as he sank back into the bed. Aware that was all she would be gettin out of the ill hero, Peach replaced the towels one final time in silence. This time, the ice didn’t melt away instantly. A sign Peach took that the fever had been calmed for the time being.

After passing a few requests to the medical Toads, Peach departed from the room. She was not surprised to find Luigi sitting on the bench outside. 

The princess was struck with an uncomfortable feeling of deja vu at the scene. 

“Hello, Luigi.” Peach said softly as to not startle the other. 

The younger twin looked up upon hearing his name. Place the green cap back onto his head as he stands. “H-How are they?”

“Just fine. Wario and Waluigi even had a strange little fight.”

“That’s good…”

Moving slowly to allow the other a chance to pull away, Peach hooked her arm around one of Luigi’s. Offering a warm smile to the other. “I’m feeling a little peckish. Would you care to join me for lunch? We’ll check on everyone afterwards. What do you say?”

“Oh, s-sure, that sounds wonderful,” Luigi smiled back, “Thank you.”

“Of course, you know I enjoy your company.”

Still arm in arm, they made their way towards the dining hall. Peach happily listens to Luigi’s latest additions to the brother’s house.

3. Puppy Eyes

Waluigi frowned as he allowed Luigi’s words to settle into his brain. Even then, he couldn’t really seem to gasp what had been asked of him.

Maneuvering out of his rather strange position around his latest contraption, Waluigi casted a pointed look at Luigi. Who was looking back hopeful.

“I’m sorry… You want me to what?” 

“Teach me what you know about machines…and what not. I know a little. I mean, enough to impress E. Gadd. And I’ve tried to lean on my own. But I learn better, especially something like this, when I can work with my hands.” As if to emphasize his point, Luigi flapped said appendages. 

“Okay…and?”

“Well, you’re the only one I know who works with machines all day.”

“Not all day.”

“Either way, I figured I could ask you to teach me all you know?”

Waluigi let out a heavy sigh, crossing his arms. “Look, I’m not just dinking around in here. It’s not repairing someones’ toaster kind of thing. These are heavy pieces of machinery and my creations that I’m working with. Even Wario doesn’t get the pleasure of working on these beauties…usually.”

“The point is, I can’t work on my own stuff while teaching and worrying about keeping you safe. Learn how I did. Take small things apart, put them back together, and pray that they work again.”

The smug smirk he’d planned on sending Luigi’s way instantly fell through. Because Waluigi was not prepared to be met with wide eyes staring back at him. A weird feeling falling over the taller of the two as the air changed to one of…pity?

“What…are you doing?”

The pressure seemed to grow heavier as Luigi stepped forward. Was Waluigi feeling…bad for saying ‘no’? 

“Stop it. I told you I wouldn’t and that’s not going to change.”

Panic grew as the younger tilted his head ever so slightly because it felt as if Waluigi was losing. Losing what? What was he losing? Why did he feel bad? What was happening!?

“I don’t know what this is, but I don’t like it! Would you just stop! What are you doing!?”

Grambi above, were Luigi’s eyes sparkling!?

“Fuck, fine, alright! Just- stop it! I’ll show you! Just stop! Stop with whatever this is!”

Immediately, the moment those words were said, Luigi’s face dropped. Returning to the regular smile that Waluigi was used to. Which just threw the other into a giant loop of confusion.

“Thank you,” Luigi beamed, “Shall we get started?”

“Not until you explain to me what the hell that was all about!”

“What do you mean?”

“That…That weird look you were giving me!”

“Are you feeling okay Waluigi?”

“I- What- You- Just-” Waluigi let out a sharp huff to center himself before continuing again. “What was with the face.”

“What face?”

“You-” Another huff, “Big eyes, head tilted, the heavy air of pleading want that crawled into my soul and made me feel horrible…”

Luigi gave nothing away. Merely looking concerned as he slowly reached out to pick up a wrench. “So…are we going to-”

Waluigi yanked the wrench out of the younger’s hand and pointed it at him. “Fine, keep your secrets. I’ll worm it out of you soon enough.”

“I just wanted to know what you know.”

“...Stand over there and don’t touch anything.”

As the hours passed, Luigi eventually made it over to stand next to Waluigi. To being able to ask questions. To being able to work with the tools and equipment under Waluigi's supervision. 

He will never admit it…but Waluigi did enjoy his time. It was fun to share what he knew with someone else.

The hero’s front door opened with Luigi peering out. Beaming when he realizes it was Wario standing on the other side. 

“Hey Wario! What can I help you with?”

“I’m actually here to see Mario.”

“He’s at the castle right now. But you can wait here until he gets back if you want.”

“You sure?”

“Absolutely! You actually have good timing. I was about to play some games.”

“Games…by yourself?” Wario looked at Luigi with a look of confusion as he walked in.

“Yeah! Come on, I’ll show you.”

Entering the living room, Wario found a strange contraption hooked up to the television. The screen showing some rather pixelated racing cars moving across it. 

“What is this?” Wario asked as Luigi plopped down onto the ground in front of the couch. 

“Video games.”

“What kind of games? Not board games?”

“Nope, video games! They're really fun. You can either play by yourself or…with a friend?” Luigi held up a second controller out towards the other with a small smile.

Wario frowned softly, looking a little wary. “Where did you even find this?”

“E. Gadd found it on one of his exploits. The shop owner said they’d found it in a trash heap and the professor was able to fix it. It’s from Earth, if that makes you feel better.”

“Your Earth?”

“I…would think so. E. Gadd is looking into it, saying if it’s more than the Green Pipe can transfer things over here. Anyway, he shipped it over as soon as he could. So…do you wanna play?”

“Mmm…I don’t know.”

“Please? I’m really bored playing by myself.”

“Well… You’ve been playing longer than I have and-”

Wario tensed when looking back to Luigi. To find wide eyes staring back at him. An uncomfortable feeling settling into his stomach. As if he’d done something so wrong. Even though he hadn’t even straight said no!

“I mean, I’m sure Mario would…be…”

Luigi slouched down, somehow making himself seem so small. That wrong feeling grew stronger as Wario was practically stared down with shining eyes. 

“Okay, maybe one game?” The older brother quickly said. Unable to hold back the sigh of relief when Luigi’s face, rather quickly, dropped to his normal smile.

“You’ll have fun, promise!” said Luigi, holding the controller back up. 

“Is…your face… What was that?”

“What was what?”

“You! Your eyes got really big and shiny and I felt terrible and…am I going insane?”

“Maybe it was your guilt of not spending time with me.”

Wario gave Luigi a look of shock as the younger just smirked back. It was the only note that showed Luigi knew what he’d done. Before Wairo could question further, Luigi shook the controller with a raised brow. To which Wario huffed and grabbed it. Plopping down next to Luigi and focusing on the screen. 

“Only one game.”

“If you say so.”

They played until Mario arrived back home a few hours later. Who found Wario huddled on the ground in defeat with Luigi beaming as the screen showed his player holding the #1 trophy. 

“...Luigi never loses games.” Mario stated calmly as he headed for the kitchen.

“Well I know that now!” Wario sharply shot back.

“No.”

“But Mario-”

“Absolutely not.”

“It’s not that expensive.”

“That’s not the point.”

“It’s a treat.”

“And you’ve already had enough sugar for the day! I’m not getting you more.”

“This is better than any tennis match.” Wario whispered to Waluigi as they watched with fascination as the twin’s argued. 

Waluigi chuckled before replying with, “It’s nice to see them squabble like brothers, to be honest.”

Their attention was promptly pulled back to the twins as Luigi let out a dramatic groan. Interest going further when said twin pulled out the unfortunately familiar face. Wide eyes and tilted head that had broken them down so easily before. The pair watched inraptured as they waited for Mario’s response. Surely he wouldn’t last that long. Mario practically gave everything to his little brother already, so this would end so much faster. 

To their surprise, Mario landed a direct poke to Luigi’s forehead. The younger almost falling out of his chair in response. Quickly balancing himself before he actually did, going back to glare at Mario once more. Who had just gone back to his drink.

Luigi let out a huff of annoyance before he walked away into the crowd.

“So dramatic.” Mario mumbled with a small smile. His calm demeanor was broken when Wario and Waluigi leaned over the table. Both looking a little frantic as they stared the older twin down. “What-”

“How did you do that?” Wario hissed out.

“Do what!? Jeez, back up a little bit, will you?”

“How did you resist that stupid face?” Waluigi asked this time.

“Stupid face- You mean the ‘Puppy Dog Eyes’? What are you two- Oooh…” Mario’s confusion turned to a wide, knowing smirk. Easily leaning back into his chair while the other two tensely watched him. “You two were hit by it?”

“Don’t act superior” Wario frowned, “What did you do to avoid being unaffected by it?” 

Mario slowly sipped his drink, prolonging the quiet suffering before he answered with, “Luigi’s my brother. I’ve lived with him for 26 years. You don’t think I haven’t built up an immunity to it? It doesn’t bother me anymore.”

Waluigi leaned forward, uncaring as he pushed Wario’s cap over his eyes. “How do we do that? How do we get to the point of being able to ignore it?”

The smirk grew on Mario’s face.

“You don’t. Enjoy your suffering.”

4. Love Letters

The front door was forcefully kicked open. Followed by Wario calling out an eager, “Food time!”

“I swear if you break our door again!” Mario called out from the kitchen. Unable to pull away from the sink as he was pouring the pasta water out.

“I’ll just get you a new one. You worry too much.” Was the more than casual reply as Wario claimed a seat by the kitchen table. Only to let out a pained gruff of noise when Waluigi smacked the back of his head.

“Stop being an idiot,” Waluigi sniped out before asking Mario, “Where’s the sprout?”

“Upstairs, can you get him?” Mario requested as he poured the now water free pasta with homemade red sauce. 

“Yeah,” Wario unhelpfully added, “go make yourself useful.”

He let out a yelp as his chair was rather easily pushed over. Wario crashed to the ground as Waluigi made his way over to the stairs. Ignoring the out cries from both brothers remaining in the kitchen as he walked up. Heading for the room at the end of the hallway. The door was already open, Waluigi fully planning on casually strolling his way in with a loud call of Luigi’s name.

Only to pause when he entered the door frame. 

Luigi was sitting at his desk, which was half hidden by tools and pieces of numerous projects. But he wasn’t paying attention to those. Instead, blue eyes were slowly scrolling over the words on the paper he was holding. A small smile on his face with a dust of blush on his cheeks. Clearly caught in his own little world.

Stepping back around the door and leaning against the hallway wall, Waluigi gently knocked on the door frame. There was a familiar squeak of surprise followed by something being slammed and another heavy object landing on the floor.

“You okay up there?” Mario called out.

“Luigi’s just freaking out, we’re okay.” Waluigi shouted back and covered up Luigi’s quiet ‘Yeah!’ reply. The tallest brother casually strolled back in to find Luigi leaning over a small wooden box. The flushed now a deeper red from embarrassment. Part of his project laying on the floor now. 

“I’m here to bring you down for dinner.”

“Um, thanks.” Luigi whispered back. Slowly moving to sit up with the box now pressed to his chest. 

“Am I allowed to be an inquiring br- …and ask what that is?”

“You’ll laugh.”

“Doubtful.”

Letting out a slightly annoyed huff, Luigi placed the box back down onto the table. Opening it to reveal it was filled with letters. All curled at the top and bottom. The ‘outside’ edges holding the torn seal of the Royal BeanBean Kingdom. Waluigi ignored the main writing and he instead flickered down to the bottom to find a very cursive signature of ‘Peasley’.

“That…is a lot of letters. You two have only been together for about, what, a month?”

“Close, we’re a few days away.”

Waluigi stalked further into the room to sit at the edge of the bed. “Still, this is so…charming.”

“You can say cute.”

“Thank Grambi, because this absolutely is cute. Adorable even,” Waluigi smiled hearing the other laugh, “So…weird question. You don’t have to answer but…you and Mario kind of suggested that you haven’t been successful in relationship endeavors in the past.”

Luigi didn’t reply right away. Instead reaching into the box to grab the top most letter. Running his thumbs over the crisp parchment. 

“I mean, that’s not an incorrect statement,” he stared slowly, “Even with how…different this place is, it’s far more accepting. I can show interest in anything and no one cares. That’s not how it’s like on Earth. There are a lot of questions and comments that are given, even more so when it’s not asked for. Since I wasn’t one who was the ‘normal’ or ‘typical’ male, there were labels on me. A lot of labels.” 

“I’ll be honest, and I’m not sure if you’re aware, but I’m a bit naive. Worse so when I was younger. I was the dating joke for a lot of people. I mean, I was a joke in general. But it became a ‘game’ to who could drag me along the longest. It’s…hard to trust people. Mario had to rescue me off the side of the road too many times. Now, I have a connection with a charming guy? A guy who’s a prince? Peasley is sweet and king and he’s so genuine. Everything he does so far is so…perfect. And it’s hard to believe he really likes me sometimes.”

“I’m just waiting for the rug to be pulled out from underneath my feet again. Then, I feel bad for assuming that Peasley would do anything like this.”

Waluigi sighed softly, reaching out to gently grip Luigi’s shoulder. “How do you feel about him?”

Luigi answered almost immediately, “I like him, I really do…”

“Then you do what you feel comfortable with. And, for what it’s worth, I’m pretty sure Peasley likes you. I’m not going to say it’s all going to be roses. You know better than anyone here how hurtful it can be when you’re lied to. But you shouldn’t focus on the possible future. Just focus on the now and enjoy it.”

“Yeah, okay… Thanks Waluigi.” Luigi smiled back.

“Whatever. Just know that if Peasley does have the actual audacity to hurt you, you have a whole ass kingdom behind you. With someone who’s knowledgeable with hiding things.” Waluigi’s face was impassive as Luigi stared him down.

“...You scare me sometimes.”

“That sounds like a you issue. Come on, let’s go eat.”

Ik its a popular LU headcannon for wars, and it feels very implied in some of your fics (one of the FH9 spin offs, I think) but I also don’t wanna read too deep into this or say something’s there when it isn’t. If this is a major plot point or smth you can’t answer bcuz if spoilers just don’t reply and I’ll figure it out :p

It’s not a stupid question at all, and the short answer is yes.

The severity of the situation and also like, the circumstances are very different depending on which series it is. For example in FH9 Wars and Cia were actually together as a couple for a bit where in some of the other things I’ve written they do not even know each other and have met like twice. For the most part I try to keep it as more of an implied thing because, with the exception of FH9, the interactions between them are never super relevant to the plot, but it is there, and that’s how I meant it to be read.

I know it’s a bit of a sensitive topic for a lot of people, so even though it’s only been implied and not outright stated, I try to post trigger warnings at the start of the chapters/fics that imply it, and also (unless it’s super plot relevant) I try to write it in a way where if you don’t want to read into that, you can kinda skip over it or imagine they’re talking about something else. I know a good portion of this fandom is on the younger side and because most of my fics are rated T, I feel like if I wrote anything more than just heavily implying what happened I should move the rating up, if that makes sense…?

One thing really important to me is representation in writing, being able to read a book or watch a show and see someone who’s gone through something similar to you and be able to feel seen through that character. Male SA survivors are something I rarely see in media, and without talking too much about my private life, I personally would’ve loved to have seen more characters healing from traumas growing up, I think it would’ve really helped me when I was younger. I tend to write a lot about my own experiences and traumas, it’s really helpful actually- And this is just another thing I’ve kinda thrown unto Wars, although this one has a lot more canon ‘backing’ than a lot of my other headcanons and I know this is a headcanon a lot of other people have as well

The whole canon situation between those two was honestly a bit insane for a nintendo game, like just the wiki thing about her that shows up on google is kinda crazy. Like I’m not sure what the hell nintendo meant their whole dynamic to be but playing the game it made me uncomfortable as hell

So yeah, I have this headcanon too, I’m not sure if I’ll ever write a detailed fic about it, that would be a lot for me mentally I think. The most I’ll ever get into it is probably having him say the words ‘I was assaulted’, but nothing more than that.

Tales From The Backlog: Super Mario Bros Wonder

ALRIGHT. I LIED. The fomo got me after I saw the singing piranha plants OKAY?

And to be honest, I picked it up on (employee) discount after a bit thinking I wouldn’t get to it as soon as I did. But I’ve been knock out drag out sick since Sunday before Thanksgiving and platformers are traditionally my feel good sick games. I was sick two weeks in a ROW WITH TWO DIFFERENT ILLNESSES. (Neither of which were COVID shockingly.)

BACK TO BACK.

I couldn’t even taste vinegar that well. VINEGAR. I debated on just writing fanfiction and skipping this week too but weirdly I found inspiration in Wonder and Rayman Legends. Both types of platformers I am not historically drawn to.

BUT TODAY IS ABOUT MARIO.

I mean this in no uncertain terms, Mario Wonder is THE BEST 2D Mario experience to date. Hands down. No questions asked. I will die on that hill. I feel like Nintendo has really made it a priority to try and knock their mainline Switch titles out of the ballpark and they keep landing the hits.

Now I think Nintendo always has decent quality titles. At their core they’re almost always built well, functional, and decently fun. But the opinion that their 2D “New” Super Mario franchise was getting old, repeated, and stale is not a new one. I think Mario Wonder really encompasses how I feel about the Switch in general. As always Nintendo has stuff they can improve on, but it is clear they really are pushing to make the games truly special this generation.

WiiU (which the short lifespan is partially to blame for this) is so… empty of personality in comparison to the Switch library even at launch. Like the indie and niche selections? Don’t even get me STARTED.

The WiiU sank so the Switch could fly.

But this isn’t a review of the Switch. It’s a review of Mario Wonder. If you can’t tell I really love it. And this is a legit opinion. I’m not in the paid corporate pockets of IGN or Nintendo. No. The game really is just that solid.

Firstly Mario Wonder has so much personality. I dare say it has old Paper Mario levels of personality. It has a small selection of power ups, but it makes up for this in satisfying level design and… general amusement.

Those singing piranha plants are a really great example. As that is what made me crawl over and go “fine”. I don’t buy 2D Mario’s on launch. I just don’t like them enough. But I think it’s such a good example as to what the game is like as a whole. Mario Wonder is constantly finding new ways to be entertaining and enjoys doing so.

It even starts off with a “bit”. You choose your character and for the intro you walk to the kingdom through a stage as your selected character. The other unselected characters? They’re all here too walking to the kingdom! We were all walking together! Everyone was accounted for! It was so cute and a great introduction to the experience.

On top of standard levels there are all sorts of hidden areas, secret exits, alternate routes, challenges, and collectibles that pay off.

And listen. I know the series is called the MARIO series, but seeing multiple female characters to play as that weren’t locked behind easy mode or late game is amazing. I still distinctly remember being a child myself and us girls fighting over who got to be the ONE GIRL in any of the older Marios.

And then we’d fight about who got Yoshi. Because if we couldn’t be pretty we wanted to be cute.

Anyway most of the time I played Luigi. Now that I’m older and have refined taste Luigi is my favorite.

…But I still pick Peach or Rosalina preferentially! Sorry buddy I like being the pink one and I’m healing my childhood hurt! I DESERVED A TURN TO BE THE PRINCESS BETHANY!

Whatever. I was annoying anyway. They had to eliminate pink carpet squares from a preschool because I was so territorial about having them to myself. So don’t feel bad for me.

Anyway.

Mario Wonder is also a departure from the “New” Super Marios Bros style. Which is… thank god. I’m not going to sit here and tell you that style looks bad. It doesn’t.

But it does look like nothing, especially in comparison to the more stylish pieces they’ve been putting out as of late. Mario Wonder exudes style from start to finish. We are finally in an era where it’s okay for cartoons to look like cartoons again. Sorry if you like the older style, but its blankness was always a turn off for me. That doesn’t make the games inherently bad though. They’re… solid Marios. Just not solid… interesting Marios.

Stylistically I do like it when companies like SEGA dip their toes into “realism” like with Sonic. (Sonic gets to have both. They’re clearly not as consistent as Mario but they have both styles to satisfy all tastes. Though Sonic could use some stronger stylization too. We’re getting there.).

But Mario… is so unique in concept and aesthetic that when they stray from the more intense stylization, I think it’s a disservice. Sonic is unique too! But Mario almost reminds me of Alice in Wonderland. That is another franchise that demands strong aesthetics for its weird choices and suffers without them. Mario is weird in every sense and I think it IS very much like Alice in Wonderland in terms of style and story. I see very strong parallels. Mario is a weird fantasy story. Wonder especially seems to really take note of this stylistically.

And I’m not suggesting “New” Super Mario Bros is realistic per se… but I wouldn’t call it stylized in the same way Wonder or even Odyssey is. It’s cookie cutter and easy to produce. Which I do get, I don’t necessarily dink companies for that. But it’s still obvious that effort on this level produced results.

The color choices of Mario Wonder are also… wow. This game is just an amazing glow up. Can you tell I think the game is pretty? The backgrounds, the colors, the models. I love how we’re exploring a different kingdom which allows for even more environmental diversity.

Then there’s the levels themselves.

Again. I like 2D Marios, but normally I solidly enjoy his 3D endeavors more. (This is not unique to Mario. I feel this way about Sonic as well. So I’m not blaming Mario for player preference).

Mario Wonder is a big exception. Mario Wonder hits all the sweet spots in my brain and takes a lot of the stuff I liked about 3D World and enhanced it. The collectibles to unlock standees is cute. I like that the seeds lock progression because most areas don’t require a lot. (Well. I’m 100%ing each level so I’ve not actually run into an area that told me I didn’t have enough)

Most of the levels have two faces to them which has so many benefits! For example when I mess up the flag pole, if I simply skip the wonder flower for certain levels it physically shortens the level so I can try again. This can also provide alternate exits which net you additional seeds.

The effects the wonder flower have on each level can also be wildly unpredictable. I don’t always know what challenge or activity I am walking in to and I think this was an awesome tactic to keep players on their toes.

For those who like challenge there are more challenging levels available. I don’t often ‘struggle’ in Mario games as an adult but there were a few stages that required real skill to get through and 100%.

Right off the bat there are lots of little explorable avenues clearly off the intended path on the map. I like the player autonomy in that and I like finding weird little nooks. You also get rewarded for this by getting extra seeds, special areas, and badges.

Oh yeah. Badges. This was a weird idea to see pop up outside of Paper Mario, but honestly about time? This was another choice I liked a LOT. Special abilities used to be adhered to certain characters (Hence Peach being treated as easy mode). Now you can apply a badge with special abilities onto any character! And there are lots of badges and abilities. Levels will even have side areas and challenges that require the use of certain badges. Of course some levels are clearly geared to support certain badges as well. And you can change them out darn near at any time. Badges are great. I love swapping them out and problem solving. While most are just functional; some badges are just small rewards throughout a level. I like those too.

The only thing I really can’t commentate on is multi-player. It supports local multiplayer which I’m sure is solid.

I know some people are split on how they feel about the talking flower. I like it. That’s it. Also the caterpillar prince sitting on your shoulder as you run around is dumb cute. He wears the little badge you’re using and you can see it in the levels.

The weird online multiplayer shadow thing I haven’t tried (which is what those standees are even for). I may try that this week and amend the post to include my thoughts on that.

I think the inclusion of an almost brand new set of power-ups was a strong choice. It’s a new kingdom with new activities. It’s okay to be different! (As long as it’s good). The costumes for the power-ups are killer on all of the characters. I like pink Bubble Mario. He makes me happy! I’m rocking that as my Nintendo Avatar right now! 🤣

Overall Wonder is so solid! We can’t keep it in stock at the small game store I work at! When I go to look physically at other big stores I’m not seeing them in stock there often either. Along with Mario RPG, we can’t keep that in stock either.

It’s crazy how on point the new Mario voice actor is. Makes me wonder if they searched for new voice actors during auditions for the movie as a cover. (Initially, not after they announced Chris Pratt as Mario) They managed to keep it under wraps somehow. Cause how else would you hide Mario voice auditions? That’s speculation though. I do need to rewatch the movie to see if they out any Wonder easter eggs in. Probably not.

If you’re looking for a strong AAA title this is it. I think I’m out of nice things to say and I have to prep for my birthday tomorrow! (I’ll be 30.)

My issues with Princess Peach's personality in the Super Mario Bros. Movie.

Not everyone will like this rant, I’m aware of it. I promise that I’ll accept any criticism of my writing, as long as it’s reasonable and in good faith and that I’ll respect your opinion, regardless if we agree or not. Before commenting, please, read it throughout it all or if you’re lazy, go directly to the TL;DR section.

Last month, like most of us, I saw the long awaited Mario Movie: it was generally a really enjoyable experience which made me smile during pretty much its entire length, from its reference and its lighthearted humor. If I have the chance, I wouldn’t mind rewatching it.

It had some flaws, many of which are generally recognized and I agree with: I wished that the movie would be a bit longer and I felt it was too childish for my tastes, as in general Mario games are enjoyable to all ages. Today, however, I want to focus on the aspect of the movie I generally found to be the weakest: Princess Peach’s personality.

There has been a lot of discourse in merit, some of which I contributed to with a previous rant I published in my other blog before the movie released, which luckily partially aged bad. I’m sorry if I sound angry or overly harsh: Princess Peach is a character I deeply connect with since I was a child and I’m not lying that her portrayal in the movie worried me ever since the first trailer she appeared, so it’s also kind of personal.

If you like Princess Peach in this movie, you're fine! But I also ask you to respect my positions as well.

Please don’t label me immediately as a misogynist who hates to see women have larger roles in movies (I mean, I’m a woman myself) or as a snobbish cinema critic who expected to see Citizen Kane from the Mario Movie. I’m just a huge Nintendo fan who loves the franchise but also likes good writing.

Before starting to write, this rant WON'T be:

A political commentary, so don't expect me to talk about culture war or whatever debate is occupying USA’s society at the moment (I'm not even American). So I won’t complain about how the Leftists or the Republicans ruined a children’s movie. I’ll also refuse to use terms like “problematic”, “girlboss”, “woke” or any words which are fashionable right now.

A judgment about Anya Taylor-Joy's performance, as I didn't watch the movie in English.

What I attempt to do, instead, is to judge Princess Peach’s character based on the writing and how well it adapts with her games’ counterpart.

The criteria in which I’ll base myself

For my judgment of the Princess’ portrayal in this movie, I also need to make an important distinction, to clarify my point: the one between Role and Personality.

In brief, the Role is the placement that one character has in the story, its social placement, how it affects the plot (e.g. Protagonist, Antihero, Damsel in Distress, Princess). In general, while analyzing a piece of media it’s useful to recognize a role in a metatextual way, an abstract way to see the character’s dynamic.

Personality  is the combination of the psychological qualities that form an individual's distinctive character. On a broader side, this includes how the character’s interests or how they view the other characters along with them and the actions that would be made, based on their tendencies, hopes or fears. (e.g. optimistic, greedy, stylish, likes baseball or dislikes soda)

Sometimes both parameters influence each other but there are many others they do not, depending on the author’s writing styles, the plot or the development of those specific stories.

From these two theoretical traits, I’d like to add a third one, partially disconnected from these two: adaptation.An adaptation is a re-development of a piece of media, whether a book, a movie or a videogame into another. They usually base on the original plot but many others would rather use some elements to make another story, like it happened with the Mario Movie. Usually a good adaptation, regardless if it uses the original plot or not, either keeps the original’s feeling and morals or it coherently expands it. Here’s why this cinematic adaptation of the Mario games, as flawed as it is, is already regarded more fondly than the 1993’s movie.

With my criterias now made clear, let's start this rant.

The positives

Of course, I like the role the writers got her in the movie: while I don’t mind her classic damsel in distress role, seeing Peach in a position in which she could constantly help Mario put a huge smile on my face. She constantly encourages him and her people as well, like an actual ruler would do and she would even sacrifice herself to save even one of her subjects. Her combative side was somewhat accurate to the Princess Peach from the games and her dynamic with Mario was rather interesting. Her not being kidnapped and being more experienced than the plumber also makes quite sense, since the movie is an origin story to the parable of Mario. I even say that switching Luigi and her role was actually a clever choice, since it gives a much stronger motivation for Mario to explore the Mushroom Kingdom and a reason for them to bond.. Many argue that this version of Peach was too perfect: I can see their point but at the same time I think that while the writers overblown her combat capability, Peach still needed some help to succeed, whether from Mario or the Kongs. She had some flaws, even though they only affected her relationship with the plumber that could easily be explored in the sequels. Not everything it’s perfect with this writing choice, mostly regarding the management of her role with her personality, but I’ll explain myself better in the next section.

Her backstory and fascination with humans could have potential as well, if we take the context of the movie as a separate universe from the games: it gave this Peach a sort of flavor that differentiates her from other similar characters in recent animated movies. Throughout the projection, there were a few moments in which her caring side from the games somewhat emerged, such in the scene in which she advises Mario to be more cautious against Donkey Kong or when she saved Toad multiple times, most notably by surrendering from Bowser. Unlike what the trailer made many of us believe, Princess Peach could have been managed way worse, but still this doesn't imply that I liked her personality, with which I still have a load of issues with.

My criticisms Even though she could have been even dirtier, I still don’t like Peach’s personality in the movie, sorry. Let’s not confuse (negative) potential with the actual result: an idea, as good or bad as it sounds, it’s often not good enough to make a final product worthy of praise or loath. It also needs a deliberate narrative choice to make it shine. For these reasons tropes and cliches are constantly invoked even by non experts. As I mentioned in the section above, my issue with this version of Peach wasn’t the role she was attempting to do: it was nice to see Princess Peach in action and having a mentor role to Mario but I still feel her arc was managed poorly, which also affected the pacing of a good chunk of the movie. Even the positives I mentioned earlier seem to be afterthoughts put by Illumination, probably under Nintendo’s pressure. Whoever was in charge of the writing seems to have missed the point of what made Princess Peach unique in the first place, some common characteristics present both in the games and in the comics: her sweetness, well integrated with a bubbly side. In the games she seems defenseless, however here also resides her strength: she’s not always ready to combat but she always is to forgiveness and kindness, even to villains. Emotional strength is not always explored in recent narrative but in reality it’s just as important as combat capabilities. Even the times in which she decides to join the adventure she always sees the big picture, contributing to her party with her grace and femininity. Even though she was often kidnapped she wasn’t a complete pushover: even in difficult times, the Princess always tried to do everything she could to escape or to help Mario to find her. Among the main Mario characters, Peach is among the most developed ones, with Luigi, Rosalina and Bowser, especially in the RPGs, because she never fulfills a stereotype, whether being the damsel in distress or the competent warrior. Despite being pure by concept, she’s still a flawed character who pays her kindness and patience with naivety and dizziness. We’ve even seen her prideful and stubborn side from time to time!

In the movie, I barely saw any of these traits, especially in the first half: in general her dialogue, especially with Mario, is left vague, not in a way that felt mysterious but rather lazy. In general, Princess Peach may have had more agency, but at what cost? Compared to the other characters, who kept their loose but iconic characteristics, she didn’t feel like her game self but rather a toned down version of a generic action heroine like many others seen recently. With this I don’t want to imply that there mustn’t be a place for stoic and capable characters, I even love many of them, I just prefer to see new ones rather than an adaptation of a character who already had a developed and different personality. Luckily, she wasn’t as bad as other offenders: she seemed to support and cherish Mario and Toad throughout the movie but at the same time her tough mentoring style felt really forced and out-of-character. She felt really aggressive and condescending, both in her animation or small remarks, as by calling Mario “Mustache” or "unimportant" (this last one was a joke but it was in a rather poor taste) or even by even much bigger scenes, like in the infamous training level scene. She was almost never the center of a joke, even if the movie was filled with gags and it seemed that her role was just to remark how much she was capable of fighting. In general, Peach's character doesn't seem to evolve through the movie (if we leave the really quick moment in which she didn't trust Mario) nor is connected with a solid theme like Mario, Luigi (brotherly love and overcoming one's own fear), Bowser (the effect of an obsessive love) or Donkey Kong (feeling worthy of a parent's approval): even if the movie was not deep, the writers did attempt to attach some moral for the kids, even as trivial as it is, which is unfortunately missing from Peach's arc.

The more I think about her movie writing and more questions I ask myself. Aside from the vague defeating Bowser, does she have an objective which motivates her to do everything she does? Does she really appreciate the Toads’ company or just thinks that she’s superior to them, as it’s evident to her reasoning to bring the one who presented himself to Mario on an adventure? Does she have some other personality traits than being headstrong, smug, supportive and self sacrificing? 

Why does she often recur to action even if there may be a more diplomatic alternative to resolve a problem? For example, let’s talk about Peach’s first encounter with Mario: the situation may not have been the best but I was surprised that she, alone, could lay the plumber on the ground. If I were to write this part instead, I would have debuted the Princess by either being extremely confused and telling the guards to do anything or, alternatively, to tell the guards that she would take care of Mario, ever since he already tried to apologize to her and, later, to calm him down. Turning back to the movie, it’s fair to assume that the castle is pretty big but then, why hire some Toads, if she’s so strong as well as the first to admit that they’re weak creatures and therefore not the greatest option to even protect an eventual treasure she may hide? I may get a lot of hate for this but I also need to criticize the Ice flower scene that many seemed to love: at this point Peach was aware that Bowser liked her, she could have been way more cunning by at least attempting to convince him to not do any harm to his prisoners while Toad himself could have been using the ice flower in case Bowser misbehaved, therefore letting Peach to escape safely to search Mario, to reciprocate the sacrifice that the Princess did for him and let Toad to guide a riot with Bowser’s prisoners against him. In this quick idea, I also gave more purpose to Toad, which is only used in the movie as a way to introduce Mario to the Mushroom Kingdom and to make it even more evident that Peach was awesome, whether telling him or with the facts. I also gave the princess a moment of evident emotional vulnerability.

While I found her fascination with humans rather interesting in the very context of the movie, it still feels an arbitrary choice considering the extended Mario lore: in canon, it's implied that Rosalina is born in the Mushroom Kingdom and had a family there. If we also involve the spinoffs, how Princess Peach didn't know about Sarasaland, which is ruled by Daisy or even Diamond City, where many humans live? Peach’s backstory in general makes sense if you don't think too much about it: when you do, many canon discontinuities emerge, too many to be ignored. And even without caring about the games lore, this plot line goes nowhere: when she’s transported to Brooklyn, she seemingly doesn’t react to how her surroundings changed so drastically, not a single cue, dialogue or even a small animation to express at least awe or confusion. The only thing she does is to support Mario and Luigi and, lastly, to feed Bowser that mushroom which will be the final straw to his demise. 

In short, despite her popularity I don’t like Princess Peach’s personality in the Super Mario Movie at all, since it’s a rather cheap adaptation of the characterization that Nintendo and its affiliates were giving to her during the nearly forty years of her existence to give a characterization that is too similar to other characters in recent cinematic times. Even considering this Peach as her own character, her writing still comes out flat and inconcludent to the movie’s plot line.

Movie Peach and Comic Peach: a comparison

Speaking about this portrayal of Peach, a lot of people and even Nintendo itself like to mention the Nintendo Power comics that were released in the 90s. I can definitely see where this connection may come from: she is indeed more proactive than in the games. However, she retained a dreamy and dainty side which is evident when she interacts with Mario. She directs her sarcasm and even violence towards Bowser and the Koopalings themselves. As a characteristic that also was brought up in the games, Peach was snarky, with those who annoyed her in the first place. It’s especially evident in the first three Paper Mario that she uses it when she’s fed up with everyone’s misbehaving.

In everything she did, Peach had a strong and personal purpose which it’s absent in the movie: to save Mario and herself and she was not above failing in her plans, as it's evident in the Bowser Marriage scene. Hence this is why I think that, even by Nintendo itself, the comic was just used as an excuse to justify the lazy writing for the Princess, since it was the closest example to what the authors wanted to do with her.

Conclusions

TL;DR: Princess Peach’s role in the movie could have had a lot of potential and I’m glad to see her helping Mario in a more involved way but I’m disappointed in how the writers butchered her personality from the games just into a mellower version of a common Hollywood trope, especially since the essence of most other characters seemed to have been respected to the most part.

I’m even more disappointed that even Nintendo, after those first concept arts in which Peach retained her personality, could approve of a similar change, even because the others retained their characteristics. I think they tried to overcompensate the widespread (and, to be honest, unjustified) hatred for the Princess with a personality that has little to do with her character, and judging from the general consensus, they succeeded to make her liked. I may have an severe opinion regarding this topic but it’s fine to appreciate this version of Princess Peach, even prefer her to the games' one: everyone likes different kinds of characters and there’s nothing bad about it. 

I ask you to respect my opinion as I accept yours. Mario movie debates have been really exhausting, and I genuinely hope that this rant could lead a constructive dialogue from both sides, which wouldn’t use ad hominem/political party insults or to assume my political affiliation basing on this rant, let’s keep politics out of this rant.

21. If you're a fic writer and have written for this character, what's your favorite thing to do when you're writing for this character? What's something you don't like?

I love writing his dialogue actually! I have a rule of thumb when writing dialogue where, if I can’t imagine it in the character’s voice, it’s not going in my fic. Mario is extra fun to work with in that respect, because, while I don’t write his accent out phonetically, I always try to arrange his words and phrasing in ways where you could still read it in his accent. I struggle more with his general quirks and mannerisms; I’m still figuring out how to write him physically occupying a space.

21. If you're a fic writer and have written for this character, what's your favorite thing to do when you're writing for this character? What's something you don't like?

Sorry to sound repetitive here but I love writing dialogue for him SO much! He’s so hammy and over-the-top, yet thoughtful and competent. And I love writing little mannerisms for him (I’ve given him a few quirks, namely mirroring people’s actions without realizing it and grabbing onto the handle of his sword as an almost comfort reflex). Admittedly I can’t think of anything I don’t like… he’s probably my favorite character to write for overall right now.

@keylovesstuff I wish I had answers for you, but I honestly don’t. 😭 I was 13 the last time I wrote or read Pucca fanfiction, and that was also 13 years ago. I don’t remember much of anything that went through my head at that time… and I cringe at my old writing too much to go back and re-read it. 😅 I’m so sorry!!

Honestly? I love the implication that she’s perfectly capable of holding her own, she just usually doesn’t bother because she knows she has a stocky little plumber who will answer her every beck and call. Unconventional answer, maybe, but it makes her that much more fun in my eyes. 😂

25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now?

My introduction to Peach outside of vague mainstream acknowledgement was when I played Super Princess Peach in the third grade, and I loved her from the get-go! She was just so cute to me. And I feel pretty much the same way now; she’s such a fun character, more than people give her credit for.

Do you have any hcs for Kaiser and/or Ness backstory?? I'm worried we won't have that much time left with them so I've been pondering, and Ness def gives me only child, middle class (maybe upper middle class), and lonely childhood vibes 😔 I feel like part of his obsession with Kaiser and a big part of his personality is accepting any and all crumbs of affection and recognition, which leads to an easy dependence on a sole model. I like to imagine though, while he didn't get to spend the most time with his parents especially as he started school, that he used to go mushroom and truffle hunting with his mom. I also see Ness as someone who likes or used to train as an ice skater!! I think it suits him and would be helped/lead to his flexible ankles. Also, has some kind of music background whether it's playing violin for a bit or being a choir boy.

He and Kaiser def have major theater kid energy, but I also see Ness as a lit nerd!! Used to be a bit of a snob about it too the little shit but he likes classics, mystery, and fantasy. Def see him as a LOTR fan while Kaiser doesn't know LOTR or Star Wars lmao.

And I think it'd be cute, if their friendship started more normally (though...who knows smh), that Kaiser and Ness used to talk about plays and musicals together. I think Ness would be a tragedy and romance fan (Cyrano de Bergarac, Medela, Titus Andronicus) while Kaiser loves EVERYTHINGGGG but is ofc a huge proponent of the classics, and is very pretentious about his personal meta and deep takes on them.

Also, between the two, only Ness knows some video games. Not a lot, but I think he would have played nintendo games like Kirby, Legend if Zelda (fave), and Mario and would know MegaMan, DOOM, some Resident Evil and such. I see him being given game consoles as a kid to make up for his parents not being there for him, which worked but the intent pushed Ness away from really enjoying video games to the fullest. But I think he'd have a soft spot for a lot of OSTs from different series, and with time, I think he could be a horror game fan but only now and then.

Meanwhile, Kaiser is like...bankrupt when it comes to video game knowledge and references. Anything he knows is from brief osmosis from being an attention seeker as a kid trying to make friends by lying out of his ass. If he ever were to play video games as a young adult, I think he might be interested in MMORPGs but his attention is short with them and he gets pissy if he's not instantly amazing at it. Which I see happening a lot bc I think video games would be a weakness for Kaiser lmao.

hi nonnie!! no worries at all my apologies for replying so late. i have like, a few headcanons for our unhinged bastard münchen duo but some of them i plan on exploring in fics later on so i’ll be keeping those selfishly to myself for now sorry <3 but i feel like kaiser and ness won’t disappear on us any time soon!! we’ve already been with them for quite a while, and after the ubers game we’re still getting the pxg france match, so there’s plenty opportunity for us to learn about their backstories. imo they’re such interesting characters that it would be a waste - and if i can be so bold, bad story writing - not to explore their dynamics further in the manga. so i’m sure we’ll know more about them in due time!! but yeah it’s kinda criminal that their blue lock wiki pages have barely any trivia on them :((

sadly i’m not very well-versed in either theatre or video games but it seems like you def know your stuff!! and that’s really the beauty of hcs - that if it feels right for you why not own it? i can tell you’ve put a lot of thought and effort into mapping out their childhood and interests :)

so let me leave you with this lil brain nugget i’ve been pondering about: i really do wonder if it was ness who made kaiser into the self-obsessed bastard he is today. i feel like kaiser wasn’t born with a superiority complex. he was always good at football, but never thought too deeply about it until he met ness. ness was the original egoist. i mean, from his current skill set, he still surpasses isagi in many aspects. so it was ness who was really good at football, who didn’t have an equal until he saw kaiser play and it shattered his entire worldview, because just like isagi, he realised kaiser embodies that “perfect form of soccer.” and he made it look easy, effortless. so ness became obsessed and decided to devote himself to kaiser, who measured up to be the best in his eyes, and thus, slowly, kaiser started believing himself to be the emperor that ness made him out to be. wouldn’t you develop a god complex if someone was constantly at your beck and call and praised you for it? defended you against everyone who tried to stand in your way but ultimately failed? i’m pretty sure that’s not how their story will go but it is an intriguing food for thought no? (okay now that i'm reading this back it's low key giving a reonagi foil lol but i still stand by it)

i also wonder if kaiser’s rose tattoo has anything to do with his desire to leave bastard münchen but being unable to do so as of right now, hence the thorns symbolising that he is “shackled”. which means he’s looking for something or someone to set him free by “unlocking” the keyhole on his left hand. my guess is that isagi is definitely involved in that process somehow but we shall see!

Chapter 10:Here we are! The Mushroom Kingdom

(The mushroom kingdom: toad town)

After about 20 minutes of walking down and through the mushroom forest Luffy and Toad we’re finally reaching the mushroom kingdom’s entrance.

While the toad was still up ahead leading the way to their destination, Luffy was busy hanging back a little checking out the beautiful fungi scenery around him.

He was amazed at how different this world was from his own while still almost looking like it at the same time.

It truly was an incredible fantasy world that no one he knew could rationalize or doubt if they saw this.

He wandered what else was living out in this world that he hadn’t seen yet.

He then also saw a clear white bird flying overtop of him towards the top of a mushroom tree.

After taking a closer look, he saw that the bird was only trying to carry some pieces of wood up to. It’s almost finished nesting on top of the mushroom tree.

It was amazing that even some of the wildlife from this world acted the same way as they would from his world.

A second or two passed by of him looking up at the mushroom top before he turned his attention forward to follow toed but suddenly he tripped, and fell over something tall and round that was right in front of him.

He laid his face first on the pavement Like a flat pancake on the stove.

When he picked himself up, his face looked as flat as a board, so he once again held his hand over his nose and mouth and reinflated himself.

He turned around to see if he tripped over when he saw that it was Toad who had fallen over.

Luffy must’ve been walking too fast for Toad and accidentally tripped over him without paying attention.

He immediately ran over to help his smaller companion up off the ground,”oh heh sorry buddy didn’t see you there you OK Toad”.

Toad looked up at him in confusion as a response to his concern,”D-do I know you”?, Toad asked curiously.

That definitely confused Luffy.

What was this guy talking about?

They literally just met not even an hour ago.

Yet he was acting as if he didn’t know him nor met him before .

Luffy shot him a confused look,”Toad it’s me Luffy remember, you said you show me your home”.

Toad’s confused look stayed on his face,”I’m sorry Mr….”, takes a look at Luffy,”Whatever you are but you must have me confused with another Toad”.

If Luffy wasn’t confused before, he was definitely confused now.

What was he talking about, another Toad?

What is the one right not the same one here just met?

Did they all look the same?

Luffy tilted his head in confusion,”Another Toad-“.

“Hey Luffy, come on we’re almost there”, a familiar voice shouted from behind him.

Luffy turned around to see who it was and to his surprise, it was Toad.

He was standing right behind him holding his bag tightly in his hand.

Luffy was definitely confused.

She turned from one of them to the other, trying to process what he was seeing.

After a moment or two, he then realized why he was getting this one confused with the toad he had just met.

Though they may have had the same color on the head, the new one didn't have a blue vest with yellow lining but a red vest with yellow lining.

And he didn’t have a backpack on his back either, which Luffy just now noticed.

Toad suddenly looked at the other Toad and smiled,”Oh hey Tobias, how ya doing”?

Tobias shrugged,” Eh ya know it comes and goes”, and said before turning curiously to Luffy,”What’s this thing, something you found on another one of your wanders to sell at your shop”?

Toad shook his head,”Nope not something but someone and he’s not another item though I did find some on the way, but let’s just say he’s something really important”.

The red mushroom shrugged his shoulders,” Well you have grin with that”, he said before walking away.

Luffy looked down at Toad in curiosity,”Wow he looked just like you”.

“Of course he does, he’s a mushroom person just like the rest of us”,Toad said before turning back to walk the direction he was going before.

Luffy did the same but faster until what Toad had just said hit him.

Was he saying that there were more mushroom people that look exactly like him?

“Us”?Luffy asked right before his question would be answered in a crazy way.

There it was the entrance to the place Toad had been talking about.

THE MUSHROOM KINGDOM: TOAD TOWN!!!!!!

The two of them walked over a bridge and into the town.

And let’s just say when Luffy walk past that entrance, he was amazed by what he saw.

It was incredible!!!!

The first things he noticed were the giant mushroom buildings surrounding him wherever he looked that surrounded the entire city.

There was a rainbow surrounding the entire city giving it a very colorful look.

As they walked over the bridge, he spotted multiple fish leaping over top of it with strange, sucker fish-like faces, except looking like literal sucking faces.

And speaking of colorful things everyone of the mushroom buildings had a different color code to it

There were little blocks floating over top of each building.

And not just a few blocks either.

As in literal, floating islands, miniature ones, at least.

Luffy walked forward and spotted multiple trees that looked as if they had a certain Speer-like top to them.

Toad stopped and turned to Luffy before holding his hands high in the air,” Alright buddy, welcome to part of the mushroom kingdom, toad town, where all of us mushroom people work and help support the kingdom, while having some time to live on lives”, he declared.

Luffy looked on in aw,”THIS PLACE IS AWESOME”, he shouted in excitement.

Toad closed his eyes and nodded his head in agreement,”That it is Luffy, that it is”.

He then opened his eyes and looked right at Luffy,”And just so you wondering, this place has everything a town could ever need, a grocery market, a couple wrecking sights, a couple of shops, a few store to shop at, a crazy cap store or two, and before you ask no it is not just a hat store it’s a close shopping center”, Toad said as he pointed to all the different places before gasping loudly,”and the restaurant, oh my gosh you have to go to toadstool cafe, there fire flower cupcakes are to die for”.

After hearing that, Luffy’s stomach began to grumble, all this talk about food was starting to get him hungry.

He rubbed his stomach,”Speakin of food I’m starvin, ya guys got any meat here”, he asked hopefully.

Toad quickly shook his head in response,” no siree Bob”.

That response pretty much broke Luffy’s world after hearing that.

And this wasn’t exactly good news to him.

When Luffy is either tired or exhausted, he is able to consume meat in order to promote faster regeneration to recover from exhaustion, and thanks to his rubber metabolism, he is able to recover from even the largest of meals, being full of energy and ready to fight in no time.

Well, almost all the time.

He didn’t know why but ever since his last fight with Kaido he hasn’t really felt up to full capacity since then.

He was still strong, sure, but he’s sold as if he was limited, and was more worn out than usual.

But either way, he didn’t have any meat to eat, and that was not a good thing for him.

His jaw dropped to the floor in shock,”WHAT, HOW CAN YOU GUYS LIVE A LIFE WITHOUT MEAT, THAT SOUNDS AWFUL”, he shouted.

Toad simply shrugged his shoulders,”Well we don’t really need to, none of us here eat meat and even if we did there’s nothing here to hunt or at least nothing that we’d be able to catch”.

Luffy turned and pointed to the river underneath the bridge they had just crossed,” What about the fish there they’re pretty good to eat, don’t you guys go fishing?" Luffy asked curiously.

“We can’t eat those fish because we have a peace treaty with them, and we have them there to help clean out all the filth and waste from some of the pipes that lead into the water so basically they help keep the water clean, with some time to fish them for fun, but that’s about it, we never eat them, especially considering the fact that they mostly eat waste and suck things, so yeah, ew”, Toad explained.

Luffy then pointed to the sky,”What about the birds everywhere”?

Toad shook his head,” Oh no especially not them, they play as our alarm systems in case there’s danger around, you see when the see a threat coming towards them they have this really loud screeching sound that loud enough to alert the entire kingdom, so eating them’s kinda outta the question”.

He then walked towards one of the fruit carts and grabbed an apple and started juggling it,”So we eat the next best thing, fruit and we got lots of it, so much so that we use it for almost anything we eat”, he explained before tossing Luffy the apple and walking forward.

Luffy caught it and quickly took a huge bite out of it and began to follow him before he soon realized what he was surrounded by, actually who he was surrounded by.

Remember when Toad said that there were multiple mushroom people that looked like him, well he definitely wasn’t lying about that.

Luffy looked around and was completely shocked at the sight of all the mushroom people that looked as if they were all identical siblings.

Every one of them looked exactly alike from height, to facial expressions, to the little diaper shaped pants on their legs and the same shoes.

It’s as if he was in a mirror maze that reflected all these identical little guys.

But though they all allowed the same, there thankfully was a way to tell them all apart.

And it was the mushroom parts themselves.

Each of them had a different color mushroom cap and vest that each of them wore.

Red, blue, yellow, green, and purple.

Each mushroom person had one of these colors on their Mushroom cap and vest.

He knew that they were going to be other people that were mushrooms like to, but he didn’t think they’d be identical.

It has various inhabitants residing in the town that look alike and not alike at the same time.

It was an incredible sight to behold.

But what wasn’t so incredible were the shocked and somewhat confused looks on each of the mushroom people gave him when he passed by.

Some of them stepped back out of fear.

Others stepped closer in curiosity.

Some were even just straight up staring at Luffy.

Though he didn’t really care much about it though, he was more focused on following wherever Toad was leading him to.

And hopefully it was to find help from that princess toad I was talking about earlier whoever she is.

If she was their princess, she must have looked more like a giant mushroom person like in a bee or ant hive.

Well whatever she looked like didn’t matter, as long as she was willing to help Luffy on his journey to save his friends then he could care less about her looks.

(A few minutes later)

The mushroom kingdom was an amazing sight, as they walked through the mushroom kingdom they saw a bunch of mushroom people collecting coins at what looked like a strange ATM system.

Toad was doing his best to get him and Luffy past this crowd but it sure as hell wasn’t easy,”Scuse me, everybody, coming through. We gotta big adventure happening right now. Clear a path for us. If I could just... Excuse me...", unfortunately for them the crowd wasn’t exactly making that a simple task.

The mushroom people were bewildered by Luffy as they looked at him with curiosity, the Luffy wasn’t really that surprised with the mushroom people, but instead was more cheerful and was even more than happy to smile and wave at them.

As he’s making his way through the crowd, Toad accidentally bumps into another mushroom person which causes him to bump into another, dropping a bunch of coins they rolled over to Luffy.

He quickly picks one of them up and examines it carefully.

He then sees a mushroom person nervously walking up to him, carefully trying to get his coin back

Luffy smiles wildly as he hands him back the coin and pats him on his mushroom cap,"Here ya go", he said cheerfully.

The little mushroom slowly smiled a little and nodded his head,”T- thank you”,he said quietly and nervously.

He appreciated Luffy’s kindness.

Luffy responded by smiling and tipping his hat to the little guy,”No problem”.

He then turned and quickly started grabbing the coins and falling on the ground and handed them to the other mushroom people that were around before turning to follow towed and waving goodbye.

They all just stood there stunned at what they just saw.

Who and what was that thing, was the only thought on their minds.

As they were making their way through the crowd, Toad was starting to get fed up with the lack of progress they were making and decided to do something about it.

He jumped up midway in the air,"Excuse me, everybody! Comin' through! This guy's friends are going to die! immediately! Out of the way, please!"he shouted, Startling some of the mushroom people around them and causing them to move out of the way.

Luffy was shocked at what just came out of Toad’s mouth.

The last thing he wanted was to think that way in such a dire situation like this, especially about his friends.

He quickly walked up the toad,” What the hell man, that’s not what I want to hear right now.

Toad held up his arms in defense,"Just trying to clear a path. That's all I'm doing. They’re gonna be fine Luffy I promise you”, he said, reassuring Luffy that everything would be OK.

Just then Toad saw a familiar face and waved to them,”Chanterelle!".

The purple mushroom person looked over to Toad and smiled,"Morning!"

"Nice to see ya, bud!"Toad waved goodbye to his friend.

They were walking through town when Toad suddenly stopped in front of an almost tiny building that looked as if it was an antique store.

He then turned to Luffy,” all right we’re still heading to the princesses castle as planned, but I still need to drop some things off and talk to a friend of mine before we do, is that cool?”?.

Luffy nodded his head, signaling that Toad to go into the antique store, with Luffy right behind him so he had to crouch down a little to fit in.

The Antiques store looked as if it consisted of antiques which included SuperBells, Hammers, Music Blocks and Lakitu's Clouds.

Inside the store, there were three mushroom people, one green one looking through the back, a yellow one looking through the front aisle, and finally a red one sitting behind the cash register.

The yellow mushroom grabbed something from the isles, and walked up to the,"Does this thing work at all?"

The red mushroom looked down at what the customer was talking about and instantly recognized it before looking up, confidently,"Yes, it works great. Eh, you just have to blow into it a couple of times, and it should be fine".

The customer looked at him with a little bit of confusion,”So is there a certain part that I blow into it or is there an open a Slot”.

The room, a red toad put his hand up and looked underneath the counter and pulled out a manuscript,” here you go they should tell you everything you need to know”.

The customer nodded and placed a few coins on the counter,” Thanks, Bernie”, he said, before running off.

Toad smiled at the side of this before walking up to the red mushroom,” Hey Bernie, I’m back with some new items”.

Bernie looked up at Yoad with a smile on his face,”Well we’ll it’s about time you brought something new Toad, these customers are bleeding me dry over here”.

Toad chuckled before placing his bag on the floor and started pulling out some of the artifacts that he found earlier that day.

It took a few moments until the red mushroom noticed Luffy (who was grabbing and checking out random items from the shelves) standing right behind Toad.

Bernie leaned forward to whisper to Toad,” hey buddy, you didn’t tell me you had a new, strange lookin friend here with you”.

It took a second or two before Toad realized what he was talking about,” oh yeah, I almost Bernie. This is monkey D Luffy,”, he then turned to Luffy,” monkey D Luffy, this is Bernie, one of my oldest friends and co-owner of this antique store”.

Movie put down the item and turned to face Bernie before waving at him,”Hi I’m Luffy”.

Bernie responded by slowly waving back at him before turning to Toad,” so I take it that this strange thing is not one of your new finds”, he asked curiously.

Toad shook his head,”Nope I ran into him in the forest and he’s in trouble and I’m taking him to see the princess”.

Bernie Rosa browe at the explanation,” the princess what’s the song about and is it that serious”?

Luffy spun around, shot his arms up into the air,” YEAH, BECAUSE THIS “BULAR” GUYS GOT MY FRIENDS SO I'M GONNA KICK HIS ASS!!!!!”,Toad tried to put his hand up to stop Luffy but it was too late, he already shouted that sentence loudly, very loudly.

Bernie froze at what he had just heard.

A few other mushroom people walking by had stopped and turned, gaping at him in awe.

“What did he say”

“Did he just shout out his name”

“Wait what is he”

They began to whisper and gossip to one another and it was starting to cause a small commotion.

Toad slapped his hand on his face in frustration.

Had he really just said that out loud, In front of everyone here.

The last thing Terrell wanted to do was cause too much of a commotion.

All he wanted to do was to get Luffy to the princesses tower.

And it wouldn’t be a good thing. If everybody in the village knew about the current situation going on, they’d all go into a panic.

Bernie (who had been frozen in fear after what came out of the young man’s mouth) stepped out of his trance, and instantly ran over to the front of the store and grabbed the cover door,”(Chuckles)sorry everyone, just an idiotic friend telling jokes just called for a little bit. Come back later”, he said before slamming it shut, and putting the closed sign on the outside door.

Toad quickly turned to Luffy in a panic,”Luffy when I said, keep a low profile, I didn’t mean go off and get everyone’s attention, especially not with his name”.

Before Luffy could respond, Bernie grabbed Toad by the arm and quickly pulled him to the back of the store,” HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MIND”?!!!!

Toad put his hands up in defense,” look I know it may sound bad-“.

“MAY, NO MAY ISN'T EVEN THE HALF OF IT, TOAD HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MIND, GETTIN YOURSELF INVOLVED IN THIS SITUATION, ESPECIALLY IF IT INVOLVED THAT MONSTER”, Bernie shouted angrily.

Good tried to explain,“Look I know-“.

“AND TO MAKE THINGS WORSE, YOU BRING IT DOWN YO OUR BUSINESS THAT WE WORKED SO HARD TO START ALONG WITH THIS MANIAC”, but Bernie wasn’t really making that easy.

“Luffy’s not a maniac”, Toad defended.

Bernie responded by pointing to Luffy, who was examining one of the items in the store when it accidentally slipped out of his hand and crashed onto the floor, shattering into pieces.

He panicked and quickly swept up broken pieces and slid them underneath one of the isles before turning away from the scene and quickly whistling loudly.

Unbeknownst to him however, Toad and Bernie already saw what he had done and both looked at him with unsurprised faces.

Toad slapped his hand on his face seeing that Luffy wasn’t really helping his case.

Bernie turned to him and whispered,”He needs to leave and you should get rid of him before he goes off and causes any more trouble”, Bernie sternly suggested.

“Come on, he's not causing any trouble. I mean for all we know he can actually just be a good person with a lot of good intentions”, Toad said in a reassuring tone.

Bernie responded by pointing to Luffy again,”Yeah and he could always be a spy for “You know who” and you might as well be handing him all the information about our kingdom, especially if you’re taking him to meet the princess”.

Toad looked straight at him before turning to look at Luffy,”You don’t know that”.

“Do you”, Bernie shot back,”Come on think Toad he just so happens to just arrive in the mushroom forest without any explanation to how he got there, unless he conveniently came up with some sobby backstory that got your attention”.

Toad was about to say something back when he stopped and thought about that.

Was there more to Luffy’s story that either he didn’t know or wasn’t told.

Was Luffy lying to him about how or why he was here just to come and get to the princess.

He looked over to Luffy (who was looking behind the register and before pulling out an apple and taking a bite out of it) when he turned to look at Toad and waved at him.

No that’s not it.

There’s no way Luffy would do something like that.

Though toad didn’t really know him all that well, he could kind of tell just by the vibes that Luffy was giving off that he meant them no harm.

Also if that was really his intention then why would he even need Toad to get here when he could’ve simply killed him and snuck into the mushroom kingdom on his own cause let’s be honest, the Mushroom Kingdom wasn’t actually the most hidden place.

He wouldn’t have needed to go through all this trouble just to get information or capture they’re princess when he could’ve simply done that himself without Toad.

Bernie slapped his hand on his face,” this ain’t no game toad and you’re not an adventurer, us toads aren’t really meant to go on adventures, we're meant to stay here and serve the princess, and that does not include bringing random strangers who you met in the same day back to a Home when there’s a current war going on right now what’s an insane warlord who wants to take over the world”.

Toad turned back to face Bernie,” look believe me I understand why you feel this way, and it probably might make sense in some way, but you have trust me on this”.

Bernie looked down to the floor after he said this, unsure of whether or not he should agree with this.

When he looked back up he saw Toad giving him a wide eyed puppy dog look,”Please”, he said with a real high pitch tone.

Bernie grunted and groaned for a couple of seconds before throwing his hands up in the air, showing that he’d finally given up,”Ugh fine, I’ll turn a blind eye this time, but the only thing you’re gonna do is take him to see the princess, and nothing else, he doesn’t come back to our store, whatever situation he’s got himself into with that monster, he won’t bring back here and he’ll get it sorted out with the princess and the princess alone, are we clear”.

Toad instantly hopped up in the air before giving Bernie a quick hug,” thanks buddy I knew you’d understand?

Once he let go, Bernie dusted himself off,” yeah, yeah whatever, but you got an hour to get him over to the princesses castle and get back here for your shift, if anything stirs up that’s too much to handle I can’t help you”.

Toad, nodded at that,” yes, of course you won’t regret this Bernie”, he said reassuringly.

“ I hope not Toad, I hope not”, he said before turning to the front and going to lift up the cover, but right before he did, he turned to Luffy,” And you, do yourself a favor, and don’t cost too much trouble while you’re here. Hopefully the princess can help you with whatever situation you’re in but after that we want you gone”.

Luffy responded by nodding his head and smiling wildly,”Sure thing. Thanks again, Bernie.”

Bernie chuckled and turned to the clothes store,” don’t take me just yet”, he says before lifting up the cover and reopening the store.

There was a group of customers outside, waiting patiently, which was perfect for Bernie to get business back up again,” ALL RIGHT EVERYONE SORRY FOR THE DELAY LET’S GET BACK TO YOU GIVING ME MONEY”, he announced with a smile on his face.

He turned his head to Luffy and toad, who were still in the isles of the store, and quickly motioned them to get a move on.

They nodded and quickly ran out of the store entrance to continue on their way.

After a couple of moments, they start to slow down and Toad turns to Luffy ,” hey sorry about Bernie he can be a bit paranoid about certain things, but he means well”.

Luffy simply smiled and said”Don’t sweat it, he kind of reminds me of how my crew is sometimes so I’m used to the web, and hey, at least he doesn’t start beating you up”.

Toad chuckled at that,” yeah, that definitely does sound a lot better”.

Toad then clapped his hands,” all right Luffy, you ready to meet this princess and get the help you need”, he asked the pirate captain.

Luffy’s say switch from a goofy smile to a determined grin,” Hell yeah let’s do this”!

Toad smiled before turning around and pointing to the top of the only tall hill in this kingdom,” the princess lives right on that hill and thankfully I got a shortcut to get there, so come”, he said, before running forward towards the castle

Luffy nodded before running after him, trying to get there as quickly as possible.

After a few minutes of running through crowds, and across toad town they reach a certain construction site.

In this site Luffy saw some of the mushroom people wearing would look like constructive gear as they were working on some of the platforms in the town.

Lucy was about to walk in another direction, seeing as though it was nothing but a flat one in front of them, when Toad suddenly yelled out,"And up we go".

"Wait, upstairs?" Luffy asked in confusion to what he was talking about.

After taking a closer look, he saw that Toad wasn’t on a concrete floor but on a platform.

It was an elevator!

An elevator that gates just closed and was about to go up.

Toad quickly motions for Luffy to get on before it’s too late.

Luffy acts quickly and jumps onto the elevators and as it takes off,.

After a few moments of the short right, they were finally at the highest point.

And when they got off, they ran towards another platform but Luffy didn't see anywhere for the elevator to go.

Then, all of a sudden, it starts to move forward as in floating over to the other side surprising Luffy.

He didn’t take very long for the platform to stop Midway right next to another platform.

Toad immediately jumped on and Luffy followed, but a little too late, because the new platform had begun to move forward, and Luffy hadn’t stepped onto it causing him to fall and almost hit the pavement all the way back down to the ground.

But luckily, for him, he was quick, and his hand cut the side of the platform, and he basically bungee jump himself from the bottom back up to the top as soon as the platform reaches the other end and toe, topped off, goofy, jumped up in the air, and landed safely on his seat before running after Toad.

Toad had run over to another platform, which worked as a different elevator that moved slowly.

Luffy didn’t get there in time because the platform Toad was on had already started to go up.

So he just decided to take the next one with this other random green mushroom person.

Once Toad had gotten off the platform, he turned to see Luffy, on the next one waving at one of his fellow toads.

Toad put two of his fingers in his mouth to whistle and get his attention.

Which worked because he jumped right off and ran after him.

“Come on Luffy just across these bricks”, Toad said, before running across the floating brick bridge to get to the other.

Luffy quickly followed before looking down and was shocked to see the floating bricks he was walking on,”Whoa check out the view from up here”.

After a little bit more running the duo finally made it to one of the main entrances to the castle grounds.

Which, luckily for them, just so happened to be a couple of clear pipes.

"Just get in this pipe and we're on our way just be sure to follow me so that you don’t get lost cause believe me it’s easy to get lost!"Toad shouted as he ran over to one of them.

Luffy had caught on in amazement to how many pipes there were,"oh"

"It's the only way to fly, man. Wow!" He shouts as he jumps in the one he ran up to.

He was cheering loudly in enjyas he was being taken through the pipes

Luffy grinned widely before taking a couple of steps back and running right into it, sucking him in.

"AHAHAHAHAHAHAH!" he laughed as he traveled through the pipes.

And as he was traveling through them, he was bouncing off every curve he had gone through laughing hysterically because he was having the time of his life.

"Woo!", Toad said in enjoyment as he too was being taken through the pipes.

After a little while of going through the pipes, Toad finally jumped out of it through a red end of the pipe, and then he instantly jumped up over the green entrance pipe, and into the blue one which led to the castle.

Luffy unfortunately didn’t see which one Toad had gone through when he came up so be quick with instead he jumped into the first one he saw, the green one.

But since that wasn’t the right one, he ended up going out of a blue entrance, which was right across from where he had jumped in.

He looked over to the pipe confusion, before turning, and seeing another entrance pipe, which was Red and he immediately jumped into it.

Which, yet again, caused him to come out of the wrong green entrance and fall flat on his ass.

He hopped up and ran into another green one to his left, which only ended up leaving him to the other right end of the pipe he just went through.

Oh, he once again ran into a red pipe entrance that simply led to him once again, falling flat on his his.

He got up and looked around seeing as he was in the same area he just a went through multiple times.

“ Uh-oh!", he said in realization.

He was lost, which was the opposite of what he was supposed to be.

He looked around and saw all the countless pipes that surrounded him, which led to different parts of the kingdom.

This could take a while…..

And it did take a while…..

Toad was waiting at the top entrance annoyed at how long it was taking Luffy to get up here.

He was hoping that Luffy was fast enough to follow him, and that he didn’t get lost.

Because that could definitely mess up their plan which they didn’t have time to happen.

He was about to go in and check and see if Luffy was all right when just then, after having to go through so many pipes.

Luffy jumped right out of the pipe and cheered for joy,”WOO HOO I FINALLY MADE I-“, he shouted before, unfortunately, falling flat on his face.

Flattening it once again.

Told backed up a little, surprised to see that Luffy was finally here on a zone in one,” about time what took you so long? I was going to have a search party sent after you”, he said, before turning in walking off.

“Sorry Toad, I got lost on the way up”, Luffy sat apologetically with his face still on the ground.

He pushed himself up, put his hand on his nose and mouth and re-inflated his face once again

"Well, it’s cool now cause Here we are! Palace gates. Big bang boom!", he shouted before running up to the palace,”Come on! Wow!"

"Whoa," Luffy said as he followed the toad as they were surprised by the castle.

It was gorgeous.

It was a tall tower supported by four towers along the outside walls. It was surrounded by a moat on top of the tallest hill in the kingdom. It had sort of a Melee and has a bit more of a brownish brick color to it rather than the whiter color but it did still mix well. Its highest tower was emerging from a wider circular tower underneath the castle and the main feature of the castle is a rectangular or square shape. And the roof is nearly a deep shade of red as Luffy’s shirt. But most importantly, the castle was located on top of a mountain overlooking the entire Mushroom Kingdom.

Now this was truly a beautiful sight to behold.

"Pretty impressive, am I right?",Toad said as he ran across the bridge towards the castle.

It was almost like another strange kingdom from his world that he’d never seen before.

But now that he thought of it, there was one thing that he had yet to see, Humans.

In the last hour, he had been there, yet to see any other life, other than toad, who he just met and the other mushroom people and different creatures here.

Though they hadn’t reached their destination quite yet, It was still strange to Luffy that there weren't any humans around.

But then, out of the corner of his eyes, he saw a stained glass image of a blonde haired human girl with a pink dress near the top and front of the castle.

This caught Luffy's curiosity, not only was there another human here, but maybe that was made recently and maybe he could find her somewhere if she could possibly help him out if this whole princess thing didn’t work out.

Luffy and Toad were just in front of the castle about to open in the entrance when suddenly…..

"Hold it right there, you two!"They were stopped by two guards.

The duo stopped in their place.

One of the guards steps forward,”The princess will not be seeing visitors at this moment and is busy with other affairs, so state your business, and be on your way.

Toad leaned over and whispered to Luffy,” OK let me do the talking, and maybe we might be able to get past the skies”.

Luffy nodded in response to this.

Toad then stepped forward in a more friendly gesture,"Oh hey! Billy, Jake how ya guys been lovin the new outfits by the way make you guys look nice and intimidating-“.

Bang, one of the guards slams the bottom of his staff long to the concrete, for startling Toad a little,” As my comrade had just stated we are in the middle of a crisis right now, so either state your business, or you and your…..”, takes a quick look at Luffy before looking back at Toad,”Thing will be on your merry way”!

Toad chuckled nervously before continuing,” Ah yes that business, well you see, we need to see…the princess. Because It's an emergency and-".

Luffy jumped in front of him,”Yah an emergency, and I need to see her right away”.

Toad froze before calling out,”LUFFY”!!!, loudly, trying to keep him from getting the guards worked up.

The two guards took a step back at the strange, talking creatures outbursts before turning to each other, and smiling.

"What a princess?", the first guard asked..

The second guard stepped forward,"I have never heard of any princess".

"Oh wait, I did. However, our princess is in another castle”, Said guard number one

Guard number two snickered"Oh yes, that's right".

"You should try another castle, maybe. She's not in this one."call number one said, shrugging his shoulders,” and if my memory serves me she’s right in that direction”, he said, pointing in a random direction towards a field of hills.

Luffy nodded his head,”Oh ok thanks”.

He was about to run off in that direction when Toad placed his hand in front of "Okay yeah, they're messing with you buddy”.

Luffy after being told that stopped and looked at the two guards angrily.

The two of them then started snickering loudly seeing how gullible Luffy was.

After a couple more seconds of them, snickering, purposely clears his throat loudly to get their attention.

They soon stopped snickering, and got back to a serious posture.

“ OK all jokes aside, we cannot allow either one of you to see the princess now at this moment due to urgent matters, so your request has been denied”, guard number one said.

Toad quickly stepped forward, trying to plead his case,” oh come on Billy this is serious we have to see her”.

Billy the mushroom guard simply shrugged his shoulders,” as am I, the princess of dealing with the situation, and she doesn’t have time to deal with visitors especially ones that look so…… strange”, he was referring to Luffy.

“Sorry but until the princess's affairs have all been put in order, we are forbidden from laying anyone into the castle that includes foreigners and strange creatures, so you’ll have to come by later”, Guy number two explained.

That didn’t sound anywhere near good.

Luffy couldn’t wait that long, especially with his friends' lives on my mind.

He would’ve just punched through the door, but Toad, his friend, had been nothing but kind to him. The last thing he wanted was to hurt any of Toad’s friends, especially ones that didn’t cause a threat to him.

But if he waited too long and didn’t see her before it was too late who knows what will happen.

He didn’t really have much of a choice.

He didn’t have to hurt them anyway, all he needed to do was just get past them, which probably would be more than easy.

Luffy balled his fist and stitch for preparing his next move, when suddenly Toad put his hand five movie, stopping him and his tracks.

toad, then shot him, an “I got this” look before putting his arm down and stepping forward.

“Do you know my friend over here really wants to help his other friend out and right now he needs help and you’re not gonna give it to him, and you know what...I don't like it", Toad then pulled out a frying pan and shouted as he lunged forward shocking both mushroom soldiers for what was about to happen.

But it wasn’t what you would expect.

Instead of attacking them, he built, and started t a fire pit, pulled out some cooking supplies, some little chopped up vegetables like squash, potatoes, and little tomatoes. Grab some cooking utensils from his bag, And started to stir frying some vegetables with his pan that he had pulled out.

He wasn’t trying to attack them, he was trying to make them food?

"What do you guys um.....? What do you want to eat? Anything, anything your heart desires", Toad ass, as he was preparing the food.

Luffy looked at him with confusion but shrugged his shoulders and went to grab some food off the pan.

Told saw this and slapped his hand before looking at him,”Go”, he whispered somewhat loudly to the pirate.

Then, Lucy finally got what Toad was doing, he wasn’t just making food. He was trying to distract them and give Lucy the opportunity to sneak inside.

"Wow! And let's stir it up because I am ready to scramble it up", he said try to distract them.

Luffy nodded at him before rushing in quietly without attracting attention, but suddenly he saw two more guards sitting on the side, having a conversation.

Luffy was still able to pass them when they let him through as they saluted him, thinking it was their superior (even giving him the chance to wave at them friendly).

But then five seconds later they realized that he wasn’t their superior, and he wasn’t supposed to be in there, so they quickly grabbed their spears and ran after him,"Hey! Intruder!"

Luffy saw this and started to run down the hall but unfortunately for him he ran into more guards.

The extra guard saw him and ran after him as well,"Stop him!"

"Stop him! After him! Whoops! Stop him!" They continue to shout.

Lucy was laughing at himself silly as they chased him down the halls.

But he didn’t care because he was on his way to meet the princess and get the help he needed.

hi, yesterday i stumbled across the knights self-destruction and got so hooked i stayed up until it was three in the morning and my head hurt and i physically couldnt keep reading, and now ive caught all the way up. i am so obsessed with everything, im always a slut for angst and thats what i initially clicked for but my GOSH i am so digging the relationships between zelda and link and sidon and yona and yona and link especially. i am so so so overjoyed to see link and zeldas relationship portrayed in such a queerplatonic-feeling way, being in a qpr myself. this fic may have had a hand in making me realize me being some flavor of poly so thanks for that. i adore the zora worldbuilding youve done with the distinction between heart and treasure and how both of these are so deeply committed and emotional ways of feeling towards one another. and GOSH the angsty scenes were delicious. yona is a riot, and i am so in love with her portrayal. much like link i fucking need zelda to see this.

and just when i thought more bliss wasnt possible i find your blog and see your wonderful art of this story.

I too am a slut for angst. I love to be hurt, but also need me that comfort. Which is why you all can take the solace in the fact that no story of mine will have an unhappy ending. SAD ENDINGS ARE FINE, I JUST CAN’T DO IT. I am not strong enough. I inflict much hurt but in the end it will be taken care of.

I’m glad the QPR vibes came across how I wanted them too!! I’ve always viewed/treated qpr’s with the same importance as romantic relationships bc they are!! So each pairing is as committed to one another as they would be to a romantic partner. It’s just how they express that love and some of the vibes are different. Another thing I’m so happy about is that you totally get where my brain was coming from with the ‘some flavor of poly’ bc in a way that’s exactly what’s happening. Like I said, qpr’s are just as valid and important as a romantic relationship, so there are some poly negotiations that goes down with all that. Making sure everyone is on the same page, comfortable, and agreeing.

It’s a bit hilarious how obsessed I’ve become with Yona. Nintendo barely gave us anything for this woman so I decided to run wild. Now I am completely insane with the amount of love I have for her, and it literally all stems from the fact I’ve turned her into my own character with all the random hc i threw on her at this point lmao. And I too need Zelda and Yona to meet.

OH BOY HMMM

i’m starting with shou bc he’s the easiest one. we already know he likes horror games so i think he’s a BIG fnaf fan. also minecraft. there IS a minecraft server that the extended spirits and such family is on (it consists of shou, mob, ritsu, teru, tome, serizawa, the awakening lab kids, and the telepathy club. i wanted to say reigen too but i think reigen stopped playing on it because ritsu kept griefing him LOL) anyway shou and ritsu go fucking bonkers making weird redstone contraptions.

shou ritsu teru and tome also play super smash bros a lot. mob doesn’t like playing this one but he likes watching. also all 4 of those kids get EXTREMELY competitive about it and they DO swear at each other so so much.

mob and ritsu share an animal crossing island. mob loves this game and finds it relaxing. ritsu wants to explode every time teru comes over and plays on their switch because he always helps mob find the ugliest (best) custom designs and clothing and then ritsu has to deal with seeing the aftermath of it next time he logs on.

tome is very much into indie games. i think her and shou exchange horror game recs a lot. except shou actually does get very scared by them while tome just thinks they’re funny

serizawa can’t play call of duty or league of legends with the kids because he gets too heated and he doesn’t want them to hear him raging LOL he will play overwatch and fortnite with them though.

reigen likes jrpgs and certain mmos i think. i don’t think he games as much as everyone else does but he will indulge a good few hours every once in a while. teru is also in this boat i feel. i think teru would be a nintendo kid too though
