I know you’ve pointed out the fact that Lightning and Serah open up their arms in the ending of LR, basically motioning for Snow and Hope to go into their arms (separately). But I also just noticed that Snow opens up his arms when he gets closer to Serah. At least, it LOOKS like it to me.

It is incredibly hard to see without seeing the video, but if you watch the ending scene, you can see his arms widening and it looks like he’s going to hold Serah😭😭.

I may be wrong since it’s hard to see, but I like to imagine that’s what he’s doing🥹

Has anyone ever heard of “Battle for Dream Island” (1990) before? Really obscure NES game, doesn’t even have a Wikipedia page (or hell, even a mention in one).

From what little I can find about it on the internet, Battle for Dream Island was an NES game released on January 1st, 1990, apparently made entirely by a pair of independent American developers. Never made all that many sales, but eventually it garnered a rather niche following on an obscure gaming forum, though it had long since dissipated. Unfortunately, seemingly nothing from the forum threads was archived, so all I have to go on are a few vague threads titles from a navigation page.

I, rather cliched like, bought this BfDI cartridge from a sleazy old guy at a flea market (along with Puzznic and Wario’s Woods for a bargain deal). I dumped the ROM and booted it up on an emulator to take some screencaps.

Upon pressing start, you are prompted to “Choose Contestant,” and have a choice between any of 20 playable characters (who are all everyday objects, for some reason). Each contestant has their own stats, and while you can feel the difference while playing, the overall impact of character choice is pretty negligible. (Also some of these guys don’t even have arms?? Weird design choice but okay.)

While touting itself as a game show, BfDI is essentially a glorified minigame collection. The gameplay loop is as follows: You and the 19 other contestants play a minigame (referred to as “challenges”) to earn points based on how well you do (though I’m fairly certain the computer contestants just get a random amount of points for each challenge). Most of the challenges are various platforming segments, though some others fall more into puzzle game territory.

Two of the challenges. The green “Win Tokens” can be collected for bonus points. LEFT: A horizontal platformer level. The grey wall in the middle of the screencap moves up and down. RIGHT: A challenge about climbing ladders while avoiding “acid spitballs.” The game pauses to scroll vertically a la Super Mario Bros. 2.

After each challenge, this speaker thing shows up (pretty sure he’s supposed to be like a game show host?) and tallies up everyone’s score. The contestant with the least score gets “eliminated” and removed from the game.

The results screen. Leafy did rather poor on the last challenge, so she’s out of the game.

The game continues like this until you lose (have the least amount of points) and get booted to the game over screen, or until you are the last one left, in which case you win Dream Island! (Though of course in reality you just get booted back to the title screen. No Dream Island for you.)

It’s a fairly easy game for NES standards (I won on my first try). Took me about 80 minutes on my first playthrough, though subsequent ones could take less than an hour as I knew what I was doing. The brevity and the fact it saves your high score gives BfDI a nice sense of replayability (though this is probably best done sporadically, as the challenges tend to get a bit samey after a couple of back-to-back playthroughs).

So yeah, just wanted to share this in case anybody else has heard of it. I’ll probably rip the sprites and upload them sometime later cause it doesn’t look like anybody’s done that yet.

I’ve finally started a playthrough where I’m properly romancing Gale and the amount of times the party teases him about being in love with my Dark Urge has me cracking up. Bro straight up asks Karlach, “What if a guy (not me) was in love with his friend…what do you think he should do???? 👁️👄👁️” and then asks Wyll if he’s heard any hot goss about any romances in the party while Astarion is like, “So how’s that pathetic pining thing going?? 😌” Like it has been approximately two weeks and fucking EVERYBODY knows that Gale Dekarios is SO down bad for the demented little blood freak of the party. 😭

🔥 Axel - Kingdom Hearts 🔥

Okay I don’t play Kingdom Hearts. But my friends do, and they got so annoyed at me fawning over Axel in their playthrough that they told me to let it all out by drawing him😅

I ~hated~ the outfit designs. Especially the flannel. Whoever put the characters in flannel needs to be booted. So, for Axel, I put him in a sort of ACOTAR-ified armour. Bro would have Lucien and Eris do a double take. I realize now I gravitate towards fiery red heads…

At the moment I am playing around with this drawing while 5 people around me are all quoting “did I?” by the mountain goat from Hoodwinked in an endless cycle. I’m gonna be fighting for my life so I don’t dream about this later.

What fantasy book character should I draw next? I’m thinking Mor or Elain. I’m too hesitant to touch Rhysand or Feyre. Maybe I should try Erik from The Ever King???

So I’m playing sdve and I LOVE Shane. I LOVE HIM. I’m just his bestie this playthrough but I do love him always. So I just went through his six heart event again and I just realized…

Shane tells the farmer to take him to the hospital. He doesn’t tell them to go get someone to help or to get Harvey. He tells the farmer to take him there. And that shows how much he’s grown since you moved there, bc Shane was always standoffish and rude but he’s like bro I appreciate you so much thank you…ummm but also carry me bc I trust you to take me to the hospital and I trust you to help me. Very sweet.

BUT

All I can imagine now is my seemingly dainty farmer girl hoisting Shane up into her arms bridal style, this beer gut having, mad pizza eating, high school athlete burnout, just carrying him across the entirety of cindersnap forest and into the hospital like bruh

My bitch built okay. Because while Shane isn’t fat per se, he’s definitely got some weight thanks to all that beer and pizza. It happens. He’s a heavier guy and I won’t accept anything else. So just seeing my bitty farmer in my head carrying him bridal style to the hospital has me dead ☠️

Socra’s Random Ass P5R Thoughts:

-I got emotionally attached to Ryuji and then Ann and then Yusuke and I refused to swap any of them out of my party throughout the entire game and it annoyed my brother (who was presiding over my playthrough) to no end

-(this also made the Okumura boss fight really annoying for me)

-Ryuji and Ann are my kids. My sillies. My beloveds.

-my brother and I referred to Kamoshida’s boss fight as “castrating Kamoshida” so in the period where I was waiting to do the fight (in the real world, not in the game) he’d just randomly ask me “when are you gonna castrate Kamoshida”

-I went from a Makoto hater to a… somewhat Makoto enjoyer? From what I’ve heard I think I’ll like her more in Strikers

-I know Kasumi/Sumire is kinda set up as the main love interest girl or whatever in Royal but I never once wanted to date her (no hate on those who do though), my initial impression of her was that she was like one of those underclassmen who you take under your wing when you’re in school and joke about being your kid and stuff

-also let me romance the bros:((((

-I didn’t date anyone but if I had to I’d probably date Hifumi

-and if Joker wasn’t a fucking kid I’d date Takemi (I am not immune to hot punk doctor)

-I am not really a Mishima enjoyer but I think I have far less negative feelings about him than most of the P5 fandom. It doesn’t sit right with me that the game obviously wants the player to laugh at him even after showing that he went through bullying and abuse- characters like Yusuke have funny moments/lines while also having their trauma be validated, but Mishima isn’t allowed to have that and it feels kind of shitty

-so uhhhh for some reason my game skipped the entire middle phase of the Akechi fight?????

What got you into the Mario fandom? And also!! Your bio says your a fan of TMNT, but which version do you like the most? The 2003 and 2012 version are pretty nostalgic to me, but I loved the 2012 one the most, their designs are personally my most favorite! ROTTMNT I know is a really good one; I started binging it last summer but never got around to finishing it :(

Now praise! I know I’ve said this in your ask for me, but I just REALLY love your art. Your redraws are on another level, you effortlessly nail the M&L style— seriously, why is it so hard for me?? I’m too perfectionist when it comes to them. �� I knew once I saw your drawings of Zahra’s amazing Anything for Him story that I’d be hooked. And your attention to detail is just 🤌🏾🤌🏾🤌🏾 like that water from your beach redraw I’m still not over.

Okay, storytime it is! (This is most definitely going to be my longest answer to date; hope you don't mind).

Let me give you some background first. Unlike most people I didn't get into gaming as a little kid. My household was basically video game-free - my father wasn't into gaming, neither was my older sister and my mother was even somewhat against video games. Under these circumstances the first video game I ever played was the Sims, as my sister had a short-lived phase when she liked it. I found it incredibly boring. Sometimes I'd watch my cousins or friends play other games when I visited, but they'd never let me play xD Still, that made me realize that I enjoyed (=wanted to try) racing and action/adventure games.

At one point, when I was a little older, my still humble gaming experience led me to finally playing my first Mario game: Mario Kart. I look back at that experience fondly as I also won against my friend at the time on my first try. He wasn't particularly great at gaming either but hey, a win is a win.

Anyway, I got curious about these characters and started searching for more info, and for more games to try out. I finally got to the Super Mario Bros. series, discovering my love of 2D platformers along the way. There's a retro gaming museum in my area where you can play on old computers and systems so you bet I spent some time there playing the oldest of Mario games, which was a big step in me getting into this genre as a whole and this series in particular.

I also tend to gravitate towards brothers in media and well, Mario and Luigi are obviously brothers so I guess I got curious about their relationship and how it plays into the lore of the games. Which brought me to the Mario & Luigi RPGs, which I loved. I guess you could say I got Hooked On The Brothers™ But honestly, the carefree and fun atmosphere as well as the sort of wacky fairy tale setting were very appealing to me too.

I started slowly but surely collecting whatever Nintendo game consoles and games I could find and afford, and watching playthroughs of those I couldn't. I even played a couple fan games, such as (Mario) The Music Box - despite it being so very different from the source material LOL

And of course, the 2023 movie got me to appreciate the franchise even more and be more active in the fandom, reading more fanfics etc. Which eventually brought me here. I started reading Luigi's Escape Plan by jelly-fish-wishes and some other comics on Tumblr and the site tried to force me to register so often that I eventually gave in, annoyed. I definitely don't regret that decision though!

And look at me now, creating my own content - well, only fanart really - for this lovely fandom. And interacting more and more with other fans.

Now for the Turtles. I've been a fan since I was like 11 and first started watching the 2003 series (only the first 3 seasons were available in my country at the time, but a few years later I found the rest on YouTube). I've watched all versions other than the 1987 series and Michael Bay movies, and read some of the comics (I really love the original Mirage comics!), yet that first series still remains my favorite. My favorite animated show of all time even. You could chalk it up to nostalgia, but it's definitely more than that as nostalgia is rarely a big factor for me when it comes to genuinely enjoying things. I just really like this version of all of the major characters the most, as well as the humor, the dialogue and the action scenes (those fight choreographies were amazing tbh), and the plot overall. As well as the art style in the first 5 seasons. Sure, the show wasn't perfect due to the frequent animation mistakes and the painfully bad Japanese (the fake kanji were bad enough but the horrible pronunciation, man... the pronunciation...), but everything else more than makes up for it.

In case you're curious, overall I did enjoy the 2012 series too. Really, I enjoyed most of the Turtle media. Tbh I have a bit of a weird love-hate relationship with RotTMNT though.

And last but not least, thank you so much for your kind words! It's so interesting that some people here praise my style while it was something my old professor criticized as too generic in my digital art and animation when I was applying to college. And people like you saying I pay a lot of attention to detail when my art teachers and professors criticized me for going too abstract in my paintings and not precise enough in my drawings. It's been healing some of these old art related insecurities stashed away somewhere in my brain, ngl.

I totally get your struggle with perfectionism. It's my old frenemy that to this day rears its ugly head more often than I care to admit, especially when it comes to art. It's important to relax and do your thing anyway. I'm sure you'll make some sick animations and I'll be here cheering you on along the way. You got this, girl!

Okie doke so this isn’t as much as a “first impression” as it is my emotions under the circumstance in which I was introduced to him, but I wanna tell the unasked for story anyway lol. So, basically, imagine this: it’s winter or 2020. Little Pichu is stuck inside alongside the rest of the world. There wasn’t much to do, not much to look forward to. But ofc, I always had video games to entertain me. Specifically, Smash Ultimate—a game I played obsessively during lockdown, day after day. Anywho, like I said, it’s winter of 2020. December. And what was coming up in just a few days…? The Game Awards.

Normally, I really wouldn’t care all too much. I never really gave a poo before lol. But this year??? This year, it was different. It was almost guaranteed that a new smash fighter was gonna revealed. And as someone who’s heart and soul was tethered to the game at the time, this was everything to me xD

So! There I am, sitting on the couch in front of the TV. It’s the 10th of December. The Game Awards would be on any moment. Already I’m sitting there and letting my brain trip over all the potential fighters that can be revealed. The anticipation is REAL, man. SO REAL.

The Game Awards start.

The first thing to appear on the screen is a Smash Bros trailer.

Little Pichu is PSYCHED. Heart tenses. Breath hitches. All the characters are there on the cliff. No indication as to who it can be. All options are valid. Every single hope has a chance. They’re about to fight Galeem. The thing prepares to unleash an attack. The music escalates and the god gets sliced in half and—

And…

Whomst.

The F*ck.

Is that.

So, yeah, um, I was very uncultured and had no idea who one of the most iconic villains to exist was x,D It’s actually REALLY embarrassing lol. Anyways, as Sephiroth descended from the sky and that random choir began chanting in the background, all I could feel was RAGE. I’m tell you. It was cold, bitter FURY. How could they add another swordfighter??? We have ENOUGH. Who is this woman??? What??? WHY??? WHY HER?????? WHY NOT SOMEONE I KNOW AND WANTED—!

You know how I said the anger lasted for 2 minutes.

It was prolly more like 55 seconds.

As almost as quickly as I wanted to chuck my remote at the screen, I had turned into, like, a mesmerized sheep. The trailer was (as my vocab would say at the time) freaking EPIC, man! The dude was UNSTOPPABLE. He plowed through anything and everything and holy SHIT DID HE JUST KILL MARIO?—

Yeaaaaah so that’s how it started tor me xD It wasn’t long until I was binge watching memes of Sephiroth’s entrance to smash, scarfing down comics of him and Pichu, and coming to the realization that I actually wanted to know a lot more about this character. I still remember the moment I opened up Google and typed in “Who is Sephiroth?” That’s how engraved this man is into my essence xD Pichu get help. I was brought to a wiki page, and there was literally no turning back lol. I learned that he used to be a hero—a good guy—which absolutely plunged me into wanting to hunt down the Nibelheim Incident and see his downfall. I became so invested in what I didn’t see from his good side that I hunted down an 8 hour playthrough of Crisis Core, as that’s what I discovered was the prequel to it all. Next came devouring fanfic and headcanoning- and, well, here we are today xDD Needless to say I love this stupid psycho to death, and i don’t think that’s changing anytime soon!

So I started playing PostKnights 2… Tell me why Almond is the most annoying person in existence, bro!

So first of all, this dude is never wearing armor or carrying a weapon on him. He’s always wearing the Postknight uniforms and sprinting into battle unarmed. I ain’t ever see him packing a sword or anything.

So he keeps challenging me, a woman in full metal armor with a heavy weapon, to a race. And when I pulled up in the last race, the first enemy in my path was a fully grown Treant. And I know darn well they don’t fall in 1-2 hits, they take like 5-6.

And there’s always a bunch of enemies in my path on these races, which means either A: the enemies refilled when it takes at least an hour to reset a patrol, or B: this loser ran past all the enemies knowing I was going to get held up!

And I’m inclined to believe B, ‘cause every time this man encounters an actual threat, he’s trembling like a coward.

Maybe you could actually hold your own against danger if you had a weapon and real armor! What is the Postknight banker hat and jacket gonna do against a big battle axe, huh? Yeah that’s right, nothing. And if you really are just running past every enemy, you ain’t getting default armor and leveling it up!

This man talked such big game about how he was gonna be the hero and how he was gonna graduate from training first, but he just used his speed to get through everything. No fights, no leveling up. Just speed boost and try to act tough.

And you wanna know what’s crazy?!

I just want to take a second to compare this loser Almond to Scout Tf2, just a quick second.

Bro is just out here fighting people 3 times his size, first of all. With a baseball bat half the time. If you can carry yourself in battle or at least try, people will respect that a heck of a lot more than just running past all the enemies and calling yourself better.

Scout and Almond both have inferiority complexes, but Scout at his worst is still better. He made fun of Spy instead of doing last wishes in Expiration Date, but then came by to apologize and ask for help. But that was a prank, not literally calling Spy useless or weak.

Almond is way too comfortable saying that, just from the word go. And he admits he’s a hypocrite, but to the player, not the girl he just insulted. And when you run up on them talking in Violetfair, she’s crying. What did you say?!

This dude talks smack, but you can tell he’s not like the worst person ever. He managed to go to Spy to say sorry and ask for help, which is not easy for him to do. “Look Spy. This Never leaves this room. …You are better than me, alright. I need your help.”

And then there’s Almond saying “FinE, RaZ. YoU’Re NoT USeleSs.” Like that snarky attitude is gonna fix what you said. Bro deserves to get fired for real.
