I know we're only 4 chapter's into 1986, but with every new chapter I just keep picturing Abby with her busted hip, Joe with his broken foot, DYING to know what is happening—with the mission, but more importantly with Rachel and Matt. Like, Joe and Abby have to know that these two are in love, everybody knows these two are in love (except for Rachel and Matt). So I'm wondering if you think Abby and Joe ever talked about the two of them? I know we got a glimpse of their friendship in 1984, so maybe they're not that close yet (especially with how the last 2 years have gone). I just feel like there's nobody who wants to see Matt and Rachel finally get together more than these two (except for maybe us who are reading Full Circle haha). Anyways, just curious to know your thoughts because I keep thinking about this and it makes me laugh. Also why do I picture Joe and Abby as shameless gossips, but like, only when they're together? I cannot tell you why lmao 😂

Great question!! The unfortunate thing about Full Circle is that is told exclusively from Matt’s POV, so we don’t get to see all the fun stuff happening behind the scenes. BUT I will say that Joe and Abby are definitely on speaking terms—we’ll learn more about it in a future installment. Probably 1990? I’m not sure. All I know for certain is that there’s a scene in 1984, when they’re in the dressing rooms, and it surprised me how patient the two of them were with one another.

So yeah! They’re totally on speaking terms—remember, as a rule, everyone likes Abby. Are they gabbing like old ladies in 1986, taking bets on how long it’ll take Rachel and Matt to wake up? Sure! If you want them to be, so be it! There’s gonna be a phone call in a couple of chapters that gives us a little hit to what’s happening back home, and I have a line that’s just going to kill us all. It plays nicely into this.

changes and trends in horror-genre films are linked to the anxieties of the culture in its time and place. Vampires are the manifestation of grappling with sexuality; aliens, of foreign influence. Horror from the Cold War is about apathy and annihilation; classic Japanese horror is characterised by ���nature’s revenge”; psychological horror plays with anxieties that absorbed its audience, like pregnancy/abortion, mental illness, femininity. Some horror presses on the bruise of being trapped in a situation with upsetting tasks to complete, especially ones that compromise you as a person - reflecting the horrors and anxieties of capitalism etc etc etc. Cosmic horror is slightly out of fashion because our culture is more comfortable with, even wistful for, “the unknown.” Monster horror now has to be aware of itself, as a contingent of people now live in the freedom and comfort of saying “I would willingly, gladly, even preferentially fuck that monster.” But I don’t know much about films or genres: that ground has been covered by cleverer people.

I don’t actually like horror or movies. What interests me at the moment is how horror of the 2020s has an element of perception and paying attention.

Multiple movies in one year discussed monsters that killed you if you perceived them. There are monsters you can’t look at; monsters that kill you instantly if you get their attention. Monsters where you have to be silent, look down, hold still: pray that they pass over you. M Zombies have changed from a hand-waved virus that covers extras in splashy gore, to insidious spores. A disaster film is called Don’t Look Up, a horror film is called Nope. Even trashy nun horror sets up strange premises of keeping your eyes fixed on something as the devil GETS you.

No idea if this is anything. (I haven’t seen any of these things because, unfortunately, I hate them.) Someone who understands better than me could say something clever here, and I hope they do.

But the thing I’m thinking about is what this will look like to the future, as the Victorian sex vampires and Cold War anxieties look to us. I think they’ll have a little sympathy, but they probably won’t. You poor little prey animals, the kids will say, you were awfully afraid of facing up to things, weren’t you?

I think we as a fandom need to have more talks about ✨dramatic✨ Jason running his own AO3 blog where he posts increasingly violent and heart wrenching stories about Robin. (The second Robin. Because he’s absolutely self inserting.)

And the Batfam find out about those fic that have a startlingly detailed layout of the batcave and accurate patrol routes that they choose to investigate (by reading the fics, duh) and growing increasingly upset about how the characters are portrayed.

Especially Robin.

I only found your comic in July and I didn’t become an active tumblr user/follower till September, but I’m so glad I got to watch this project come to a close. The ROTTMNT fandom wouldn’t be the same without you and your comic. You’ve inspired so many people, including me, and I just want to say thank you, Cass. In honor of C.A.S I wanted to color and animate the final panel of the comic. Im still learning color theory and digital art but you’ve inspired me to improve, and what better way to start than with the end? It was a beautiful ending, so perfectly paced and full of a peaceful hope twinged with a bittersweet sadness. Your comic might be done, but this turtle family will live on forever.
