my #girltrauma means i think all people who look like men are nasty and evil, especially those queer men theyre probably rapist pedophiles invading womens sorry lgbt+ spaces. i guess youre ok if you used to be a girl but i think you need to dress more feminine, honey, like sorry im just uncomfortable around men and i think you i would be so much happier and prettier if you just dressed like a girl.
#transandrophobia#“just detransition and be miserable so you can talk to other queer folks bc i dont want to deal with my own issues?”#no fucking wonder transmascs have the highest suicide rate with allies like this#(also to be clear this is satire and not my opinions)

Once you stop thinking about queer people's labels as strict indications of what's in their pants and who they do/don't bed and instead view queer people's labels as how they interact with the world, you'll find that you'll get along with queer people better and treat them better, I think.
#queer#lgbt#lgbtq#like of course some people use labels in the way i described first and i don't think that's inherently bad...#...but like. as a trans person i hate when people try to like... use my labels (or their labels they force on me) to say what's in my pants#i think there's a fone line between somebody using a label in the first way i described and somebody forcing their understanding of other...#...people onto them. like.#i think it can be a small shift in thought but it's helpful#it reminds me of the shirt that went around of the boston dyke march (<3) shirt design...#...which basically listed who was welcomed at the march and it was a super long list#if anybody is wondering what i'm talking about wrt the last two tags i have the image on hand

When I was 19 in the mid-90s the internet was not a readily available thing to explore your curiosities about sex, so I used to phone up a sex line and make an account, leave a message in a boy voice, and see what kinds of propositions older men would leave in my mailbox. Your aunties did their gender identity research in their own ways
#i was like 'idk i'm fascinated by gay sex and pretending i'm a boy i wonder what THAT'S about lol'#queer culture#gender identity#genderqueer#asexuality#aegosexual#says miss maggie

reblogging again about Big Eden made me think about some of the native american/canadian queer cinema (Indigiqueer Cinema) I've enjoyed.
Found a handy dandy Letterboxd List called Queer Native Pride and Beyond that has a whole bunch of movies I haven't seen yet, and below some of the ones I've gotten to experience (three out of four are linked):
Big Eden: a story about a gay man who returns home, because his grandfather gets sick. A sweet, beautiful man (played by Eric Schweig) starts to secretly make him food to help out. it's an amazing slice-of-life/subtly utopian bit of film-making, in that nobody in the town is homophobic, but being gay/shame is still a big part of the exploration within it.
Wildhood: a movie I got to watch at a film festival (always good to go to your local queer film festivals, many surprises to be had) and it blew me away. a roadtrip movie about two brothers who escape their abusive father to reconnect with the elder's mother and Mi'kmaq heritage. letting go of the instilled shame of being indigenous goes hand in hand with letting go of the instilled shame of being queer
Fancy Dance: this movie isn't about being queer, it's about the ongoing murder of indigenous woman and girls, and it's also a beautiful road trip film between an aunt and her niece, the former of whom is sure her sister is dead but unwilling to face it and to destroy her niece's innocence. Lily Gladstone plays the lead, who's also a lesbian, which is just a choice that works really well for the movie even if it's not the focal point (available on Apple+ TV and however you access movies, but would recommend throwing this one some views if you have access to official streaming)
Honey Moccasin: a 1998 movie i watched at another film festival (this time online), it's anarchic, it's a comedy, it's a thriller, it's got musical beats, it weaves in the intricacies of exploring Native identity and Queer identity, it's a surreal story about a few things, one of which include focus on a "closeted drag queen." it's a movie that beats against conventional film-making to create something not beholden to tropes and clichés forced upon narratives about being Native
#indigiqueer#queer cinema#indigiqueer cinema#big eden is interesting in the sense of wondering where it sits in esteem with native american communities#as it's not made/directed with a focus in mind to represent native american lives so much as the casting of eric schweig was#from the sounds of it very deliberate and He brought a weight to his role that was respected and wanted#but would it be considered indigiqueer by everyone (*everyone* is a weighted term tho also)#i do think it's different to say the miseducation of cameron post which is an ensemble piece that centres a white girl#in which one of the other characters is lakota#anyway i should look up how people talk about big eden#big eden#wildhood#fancy dance#honey moccasin

QUEER LABELS VALIDITY & REQUIREMENTS MASTERPOST
have you ever wondered "is it okay for me to call myself this label?" "can i identify as [this] if im also [that]?" "is this identity valid?" or various similar sentiments?
well look no further! this post is compiling a list of specifications for different identities along with why you can or cant use certain labels along with other ones, so youll be able to make an informed decision on choosing your labels! (and not call yourself something thats very problematic and harmful to other queers)
As if!
you can do whatever you want forever <3
you know yourself best, only you can decide what labels fit your own experiences and identity :)
other people can offer their perspectives from their own experiences if you want to hear them to try to figure out what you relate to, but no identity has a universal experience! no one can tell you that you cant identify as something!
no one, i repeat NO ONE, ordains the details of queer labels and who can or cant identify as what, or if a label can be used at all or not! not even if they are of the identity theyre trying to enforce rules on!
just because some rando may walk up to the gate of a public park and begin trying to control who can or cant enter doesnt mean its their property!
go, be free and queer, even with the most complex and weird and confusing labels! nothing can tie you down! (unless youre into that)

The South Carolina Historical Society puts on an annual winter lecture series, and the theme this year is "Untold Stories of the American Revolution." The first lecture of the series will be "Vicious and Immoral: Homosexuality, the American Revolution, and the Trials of Robert Newburgh" presented by John G. McCurdy on February 11, 2025. This lecture speaks right to my special interests, and I'm sure many of you would be interested in attending the lecture too. You can register for this lecture and other lectures in the series here (both in-person and livestream options available). Other lectures in the series include "The Tory's Wife: A Woman and Her Family in Revolutionary Carolina," "A Promised Land: Jewish Patriots, the American Revolution, and the Birth of Religious Freedom," and "Revolutionary Blacks: Discovering the Frank Brothers, Freeborn Men of Color, Soldiers of Independence." It's certainly a great lineup of topics and speakers this year!
Surprisingly, I had never heard of John McCurdy or his works prior to this lecture announcement. It appears that his lecture will be based on his recent book of the same name. I've just started reading the book myself and have been enjoying it so far. It is interesting and refreshing to see a discussion of queer history so specifically framed in the context of the American Revolution. John McCurdy previously talked about this book at the Museum of the American Revolution, and you can watch that presentation here. He has a few other publications, including a book titled Citizen Bachelors: Manhood and the Creation of the United States. I've picked this one up as well but haven't had the chance to read it yet. I'm certainly excited to have found some new books that discuss sexuality and gender in late 18th century America.
#Dr. McCurdy I would take every class on queer history + the American Revolution that you teach#He is also an openly gay man for those wondering#queer history#John McCurdy

:) i certainly have no issue dressing in drag :)
^guy who has no issue dressing in drag btw
glenn said that dennis' drag name is victoria von hemen btw
(Source)
#glenn howerton#guy who should get to dress in drag#im just. ill never be over the fact that glenn wrote Two episodes in season 3 that involve dennis doing drag#i know he doesn't really want to write for the show but there's something so special abt how early sunny was an actor's sandbox#esp hearing glenn talk abt how den is like. an outlet for him and a way to play around with shit he would never do for one reason or anothe#my point being that i think its been a while since he was able to utilize dennis again in that way#but 16 was a definite change. especially with dtamhd it feels like dennis is becoming more glenn again. like he was in the early days#theres a pretty good stretch of the show once it got into the double digits that feels like den was. co-opted.#but like i wonder how it feels to explore sexuality and gender via your character#it must be similar to doing that through fandom and OCs but there's a whole other layer to it here#esp when its not Just being presented as comedic as it was in past seasons. like dennis is Actually queer and this is a normal plot point#its not the punchline like den's femininity often is its literally just part of what makes him able to help mac and dee#id argue we've gotten this in the form of. dennis doing dee's makeup and shit. but#anyway. glenn. now that you have two of your former writing assistants in that writers room i hope you get to do drag again 💀#its been 16 years. show us the new and improved victoria.#i honestly can't imagine pitching something like that to a room of people Without some sort of comedic twist but#man.#ada speaks#iasip#it's always sunny in philadelphia#rcg#i won't ever forget the way he lit up talking abt queer dennis jhksvfjhksvdfgjhkds#love u king...... i hope you get something in s17 that you Certainly Don't Mind

hi sorry in advance if this is weird but i couldn't for the life of me figure out who machete was reminding me of and just now i figured it out - surku the dog from the moomins. can't remember enough to tell how accurate that is personality wise but something about the image of a distressed pointy-nosed dog shivering in a coat... plus ne on molemmat ahdistuneita queer ikoneita
I love Surku! Surku must be protected at all costs.
If you ask me, he's even more distressed in the comics.
I keep him on my fridge door as well.
But now that we're on the topic of Moomin characters, I must add that I see Machete in various Fillyjonks a lot. The short story Fillyjonk who believed in disasters is one of my favorite pieces of literature ever, when I first read it it shook me to my core, I still revisit it on yearly basis. For someone who seemed so wild and free spirited by nature, Tove Jansson did remarkable job at catching and depicting the essence of anxiety, uncertainty, vague sadness and irrational fears. At least in my opinion.
#loving the last moment Finnish jumpscare by the way#answered#anonymous#in the comics Surku only likes cats and is ashamed of it#I don't mean to theorize but surely there's no deeper meaning to that or anything#coming from a queer author#all iterations of moomin are wonderful I'm recommending them to literally everyone#but read fillyjonk who believed in disasters if you can#it has moments that are very Machete-esque#everyone loves Little My and Moomin and Snufkin and I get that but man Fillyjonks just hit different#also Sniff my beloved you deserved better
