Note
Not a fic request; I just recently discovered and binge-read your Somebody to Call My Own Au and I was struck with an idea I'd love to share.
I love your post about stcmo!Ford meeting the Canon Grunkles, but I got to thinking, "Why would he need to go to dimension 46'\?" And the most obvious answer is, Grunkle Stan almost died.
So picture it, the sea Grunks have been living their shared dream for close to a year and have been steadily making their way back to Gravity Falls for their niblings second summer there, when 46'\ Ford detects an anomaly that's not too far off course. He convinces Stanley to go investigate it as one last hurrah before they turn in for the summer.
However, in an attempt to document it, they ended up angering the creature and now have to fight it or risk their boat capsizing. Stanley ultimately ends up falling overboard, and while Ford is concerned, he is rational enough to know that Stan's wearing a life jacket, has fallen off the boat before (and knew how to pull himself back up by now) and always turned out fine, save for falling ill for a bit.
But while Ford's busy making sure the boat doesn't turn over, he realizes Stan is taking a lot longer than he should to climb back up.
Then, out of the corner of his eye, he catches a flash of blue light and a dark figure landing on his deck. It takes him all of two seconds to realize who it is, and in that time, the guy has already dove into the water. Motherfucking Stanford Pines from dimension 419"3.
So now Ford is pissy because this edgelord version of himself, who beat him up once over having a shit take years ago, just showed up for no reason and will probably make his day even worse.
And then he comes to the chilling realization that 419"3 Ford only shows up when a Stanley is at risk of dying.
In the meantime, 419"3 Ford kills the monster and ends up having to unhinge it's jaw in order to drag Stanley out of its mouth. He's unconscious, but alive.
The boat settles and Ford 419"3 drags Stan onto the deck to perform cpr, make sure he does get hypothermia, y'know, standard procedure. Ford 46'\ is instantly glued to his brother's side and is insistent that once he is breathing clearly and conscious, Ford 419"3 has to go.
Frankly, he's knee-deep in denial that Stan was even going to die. His Stan isn't like the other Stan's that need help. He's tougher. He beat Bill Cipher for crying out loud! He doesn't need help, especially from 419"3 Ford!
He's always fine.
Of course, 419"3 Ford disproves that claim, saying that's a very naive way of thinking. That 46'\ Ford had believed Stan was "fine" for ten years, when he very clearly wasn't. In fact, there was a 100% chance that Stan would die in that fish's mouth because Ford had prioritized the boat over rescuing Stan.
419"3 Ford says he's going to stick around to ensure that Stan is healthy and he might even stay until they reach land because he doesn't trust 46'\ Ford to not get distracted by some other big fish.
46'\ Ford is appalled by the idea that he'd put his brother’s health even further at stake and is pretty insistent that they get Stan to a hospital asap, which they both can agree on for once. (I like to imagine Stan's in the background very much not wanting to go to a hospital because he's still legally dead and would honestly like to keep it that way, but he's being ignored in favor of his health.)
Still Ford 46'\ wants 419"3 gone. He knows his methods, he knows his MO, and he does not trust him with his brother. He does not need to be tested. He's learned the lesson already. The thought of losing Stan again kills him inside.
And yet the thought lingers. Stan would've died, barely a month before their first shared birthday in forty years. He'd have to return to Gravity Falls alone. He'd have to break the news to Dipper and Mabel.
Their hero was gone and it would've been his fault.
But he wasn't. And Ford wouldn't admit it out loud, it was all thanks to Ford from 419"3. That asshole saved his brother.
But we all know how much Ford struggles with saying "Thank you".
Anyways, that was just something my angsty ass came up with because your Au is so compelling and inspiring. I'd actually write a fic of it, if I wasn't already committed to a long fic rn. Hope your days going well☺️💗💗💗
Omg... why do y'all keep giving me the brainworms??? You know I'm gonna have to write something for this now, right?

CG! Stanley Pines Headcanons!
Inspired by @lttl3babybug ‘s Cg! Stanford hcs :)
Tumblr media
💰 Always happy to pull you onto his lap, often when he’s watching TV. He’ll involve you in what he was watching and explain things as they happen, making funny jokes and observations to make you laugh.
💰 Pets names such as “sweetie”, “pumpkin” and “kiddo”
💰 Involves you in his schemes, like letting you glue random appendages and horns to old taxidermy’s for new mystery shack attractions.
💰 Deathly protective, If somebody does anything to you or hurts your feelings he will hunt them down.
💰 Not really the best role model, if he catches you being naughty he’ll probably join you or at least help you cover it up before Ford finds out. (He is a CG that will lay down the rules)
💰 agrees to playing and games but ends up regretting it as it usually ends with him covered in makeup, glitter and a sore back. (From having to sit down on the ground to join a tea party)
💰 The only time he has would get serious and firm is if you were putting yourself in unsafe situations or being too reckless. It’s not much anger, it’s just the possibility of you being in danger scares him too much.
💰 Story time is much more fun with Grunkle Stan, often when he’s presented with a picture book he will attempt to read it. But he finds them a bit boring and sickeningly sweet, so he’ll add his own twists to the plot and characters to make you laugh.
💰 Always sneaking you little treats and candy, and conveniently leaving your sugar rush fuelled chaos to somebody else. (Usually poor Ford)
💰 If you hand him a piece of artwork, a response usually something like. “Wow! This is terrible. I can sell this.”
💰 He can’t do it for too long with his back, but he loves hitching you up onto his hip around the house and carrying you up to bed.
💰 Creates the BEST blanket forts, setting them up around his armchair so you can watch movies and cuddle up with snacks.
💰 If you fall over or hurt yourself he’ll be right over with a hug and bandaids. Letting you pick which ones you want and congratulating you on how brave you are, his tough kid.

The Ol switcharoo (pt4)
Stan x reader/ ford x reader
Tumblr media
Summary: You journey into stanfords mind for the sake of the shack when you learn more than you probably should have
Warning: none Look, I'm trying to lay down more romance. The stakes are gonna get raised soon. We can't keep tiptoeing guys
Also sorry if it feels a little choppy and all over the place
Enjoy!
~~~~~~~~~☆~~~~~~~
Stanford had been distant a lot more than you would like to have admitted over the past few weeks. Sure, you'd get the kids together, and all of you would hang out and have your own little adventures, but more often than not, you couldn't find him before you followed your new adopted great niece and nephew out the door for the next great adventure or activity for the summer.
You loved going out with them, taking them to lunch, or to shop Dipper even more recently, inviting you to monster hunt again. But when you weren't invited and the kids went on their own journey, you found the house was only quiet.
In the what seemed to be rare and far in-between days stan was with the three of you, you felt a great wave of peace wash over you. The four of you laughing in the car after narrowly escaping one of stans crazy ideas, sitting with him on the back porch, watching the kids run around.
You felt a buzz inside you when you sat next to him, watching him laugh at dippers water balloon hitting the ground without a pop. You loved your routine with him before the kids arrived. It seemed like that was becoming all you knew.
But the shack felt different with laughter filling it up. And if you realized it or not, those two kids were bringing you closer to Stanford when he hung around. You took a deep breath and scooted in closer to Stanford, his arm instinctively wrapped around the back of the couch, letting you fill as much space next to him as you wished.
"I can't believe this is my life now. I don't know what i did to deserve this." He said, looking down at you as you now watched the twins in the yard. "Everything happens for a reason, remember?"
"I guess so." His hand fell softly onto your shoulder, snuggling you closer. "Look out!" You and Stanford both jumped up as one of the water balloons landed where you were once sitting.
"Can't a guy get any peace around here!?" You laugh at him as he runs out into the yard demanding a balloon.
The feelings washed away, knowing he'd be hiding by tonight.
He was right, though. You couldn't believe this was your life as of right now.
"Y/n?"
You hummed in response as you cleaned dippers cut. "Would you say your feelings for Grunkle stan are...of the romantic kind?" Mable asked from right beside her brother her own adventure wounds needing to be rented too.
"Mable!" Dipper yelped, knocking her over with a nudge. You laughed out loud at her question. "Sorry..sorry." You cleared your throat. "Excuse me. Mable, what would make you ask something like that?"
"Oh c'moonnn as a love expert-"
"Your twelve-"
"I can see how you and grunkle stan look at eachother, you've been friends for years, and you've really never felt anything more than friendship for him?"
You bit the inside of your cheek as you thought about her question. "I guess maybe a few years ago... but things were different back then, and I never knew how he felt about me. Besides, so much time has passed that I'm sure that old fart feels anything other than tired anymore." Mable jumped to her feet and smashed your cheeks together.
"Y/n it is my mission as a matchmaker and love expert of gravity falls. I make it my mission to get you and my grunkle together!"
"Mable, why do you even care? Grunkle stan has shown no interest in anything other than money since we've been here."
"Dippers got a point." You say pulling tables small hands from your face. "Besides, I'm not taking love advice from the girl who dated little Gideon not too long ago."
Mable's face grew red, and she pulled the neck of her sweater up. "Ugh, don't remind me." You chuckled again, refocusing the attention to the wounds on each kid as Dipper went back to explaining what had happened in the first place.
You'd gone the next few weeks thinking about mables question. Did you still have feelings for stanford?
It wasn't something you thought much about. You two just existed with eachother nothing ever really came out of it since you were young. Besides, you'd never make a move unless you knew his exact feeling for you. He'd been so secretive recently that the only way For that to happen, you'd have to get inside his mind to find anything like that out.
Of course that was almost impossible.
"Y/N THERES A LITTLE YELLOW GUY TRUING TO TAKE OVER STANS MIND WE NEED YOUR HELP DIPPERS GOING TO TAKE US IN THERE COME ON COME ON!"
Of course maybe you spoke to soon.
"Mable slow down! What's going on!?" You asked as she dragged you by the sleeve into the family room where Stanford sat sleeping.
"So like we saw little Gideon in the woods and poof a little yellow man appeared and he made a deal with him to go inside stans mind to get the code to the safe that Mr pines keeps the deed in." Soos explained in one long breath you could see his face Turing a strange shade of red and violet.
"Wha-"
"No time we need to go now before it's to late!" Mable cried before you could even think to ask for clarification or any follow up questions.
You followed along with what Dipper told you to do, and you watched as he read from an oddly familiar book.
You make a note to ask him about it later.
Your thoughts were cut off as dippers chanting got louder, and before you knew it, the world had melted away from you, and you were suddenly sitting in a patch of grey grass.
"Wow! This is stans mind?" Mable said, hopping up and looking at the grey landscape before you.
You pushed yourself and looked around jaw on the floor. "I've done some pretty crazy things in my day, but this is beyond me..."
"Thanks for coming along y/n!" Mable said.
"Of course! You know you can count on me for anything, kids."
"OK, we need to keep an eye out for the triangle guy." Dipper stated as you headed twoard the shack.
"Yea, look put for the triangle guy!" You jumped at the voice that appeared out if no were surprised to see it belonged to exactly what the kids and soos had said.
"It's him it's the guy!" Soos said in alarm pointing at the glowing shape.
"You leave our grunkles mind alone, you isosollies monster!" Mable shouted as she charged at him. "Mable!" You and Dipper shouted each holding out an arm to grab her.
You watched in horror as the triangle swallowed her up and waited a minute before spitting her back out into your arms.
"Stan's family, it's good to finally meet you! Some more than others!" He said, floating particularly close to you as he said so. You scowled at him and shielded Mable from him. "Names bill cipher."
"Get out of stans mind! You have no business here!" Dipper shouted.
"Trust me, kid! You're the only one who should be getting out of here your way over your heads." His one winked as he shot a finger gun twoard Dipper shooting ahole through him. "I'm gonna find that code and and you're not going to stop me!"
He flew away, leaving a triangle shape hole in the shack.
"We gotta get that code before that freak does." You said pausing to giggle as Mable reached her arm through the hole in dippers chest.
"Mable!" You coughed and put on a serious face. "Alright, kids...and soos.. let's go."
You lead the way into the shack of stans mind your eyes darting from door to door each labeled a different thing.
Fears, hopes, etc.
"Look! Stans memories!" Soos pointed out. You all ran into the hall watching memories play out all around you. "Quick, let's split up and cover more ground."
You turned to open a door but the mables' hand caught yours. "Look what I found!" She squealed with giddy. "You found the code? Already?" She shook her head and dragged you out down the memory hall and too a door with a heart carved into the wood. Signage warning against opening the door nearly covering every inch.
"What is this?" You asked the girl beside you. "Look for yourself." She lifted up a "get lost" sign to reveal the doors true label.
"Y/ns memories."
"Oh Mable I dunno...we should really be looking for the code."
"Oh, c'mon, you said it yourself that you never really knew what he felt for you it wouldn't hurt to look!"
"Yes, Mable, it would! the shack is at steak-"
Before you could continue, Mable had opened the door and pushed you in. "Face your fears y/n! Face your emotions!" She slammed the door shut on you. "Don't worry y/n we'll find the code before bill does, I'll come back for you when we do!"
you huffed and stood up dusting yourself off, this was ridicules you knew how Stanford felt about you you've known each other for what felt like your whole life. Besides you told Mable already if anything was to happen it would have by now. your hand grasped the door handle as you prepared to chase the twins and Soos down.
"Congratulations!" you heard a voice say from behind you. you turned to see one of the many doors cracked open. despite your better judgment to go after the kids you went straight for the door pulling it open. to see your wedding day.
well, your fake Vegas wedding. stan stood at the counter with the cashier in a dinky thrift shop on the outskirts of Vegas itself, waiting for you. "oh right..." you mumble to yourself watching your shared memory through Stans eyes.
"I'm sure you're very excited about the wedding." Stanford shrugged. "Trust me, I've been married a few times...this ain't nothing new for me." you frowned a little, you weren't sure why, you knew that's how he'd felt and it wasn't a real wedding. "Stanford! Look at this!!!" you yelled excitedly to him pushing open a dressing room curtain behind him.
you excitedly spun around in the wedding outfit you had picked out, you were so much younger, it suspired you too see yourself.
you watched Stanford's face flush upon seeing you his eyes fixated on you jaw almost on the floor. you didn't remember him looking at you like that. "wow you look...you look amazing!" he said rubbing the back of his neck trying to find the right words. you squealed in a pitch similar to the one Mable had done earlier before shutting the curtain again. "you were saying this wasn't something new?" the cashier asked raising a suspicious eyebrow.
"listen between you and me this whole Vegas wedding isn't anything new for me...they're corny, cheap and lousy all things y/n doesn't deserve any of that stuff, and I don't know why I'm telling you of all people, but I've known y/n for a while now the way she makes me feel isn't like how anyone has made me feel before I could never tell any of this too her, I've ruined to many relationships I could risk losing her in my life so try to act nonchalant about these types of thing, don't want to give myself away you know." the cashier stared at him unsure of how to react to all the information dumped onto him.
"here's 20 bucks to forget everything I said." he said sliding money across the counter.
you shut the door with a smile before looking down the long hallway. you crept over to another one. opening the door only to see a normal night you asleep on his shoulder as he continued to talk about the movie that was playing without realizing. it took him a whole monologue before realizing you had passed out. he leaned over careful not to wake you but enough to see you where sleeping.
he took a deep breath before talking some more. "Here goes nothing, y/n you've been with me through thick and thin when no one had my back you where there...I guess what I'm trying to say is y/n I...I think I have feeing's for you...you've made me an honest man in some ways...and.." you jumped upon hearing screaming.
"Oh no Kids!" you took off running swinging the door open and running down the hallway running past memories trying to find the kids. "Dipper!? Mable? Soos!?"
"Dipper!-"
"This here's a-"
"Stan Vac-"
"Stanley do something-" you could no longer hear the kids let alone see them in all the noise of Stanford's memories. you began running out of the memories hall in hopes you'd find them somewhere else. "Dipper!? Mab-" the wind was knocked out of you as you and dipper crashed right into each other. "Y/n! there you are!"
"Dipper you're ok! where is your sister and Soos!?"
"Bills got them! Don't worry I have a plan!" you followed dipper through Stanford's mind following his exact plan, you never even thought about what you could do in ones mind, flying and giant water guns didn't never even cross your mind.
"Hey one eye!" you and dipper grabbed bills attention as you floated up to his level neon colored squirt guns in hand. "WHAT!?"
"Dipper! Y/N! how are you doing that?"
"This is a mindscape you can do anything you imagine in here!" you explained."who told you that? dont liten to them!"
"ready dipper!?"
"ready y/n! aim and..."
"Fire!" you both shot your water guns at bills eye causing him to cry out in pain, you watched Mable conjure herself kitten fists and launched them at bill.
"Now think of a portal out of stans mind!" the four of you shut your eyes and all thought as hard as you could as a portal opened up under bill. "No No No wait! wait! wait! ENOUGH!"
you all flew back as the space around you was now a white void. "you know you're all a lot smarter than you look! I'll let you go for now, you might prove to be useful especially you y/n."
you scrunched your nose at him. "but remember there will come a day when everything you care about will change! until then I'll be watching you!"
there was a bright flash and he was gone. "well that wasn't ominous.." you said "we did it though! He left!" dipper cheered.
before you knew it Stan woke up and you were all wakening up in the Livingroom. and for a moment everything was normal again. "Ugh I had the weirdest dream." stan said rubbing his head. "You're ok!" you exclaimed running over to hug him and planting a quick kiss on his lips. his face heated up as you did so and before you knew it the kids had joined the hug.
a few hours later you'd gotten the kids to go to bed and found Stanford sitting on the back porch. "care for a drink?" you asked offering him a pitty cola he accepted with a smile. and you sat down next to him.
"where have you been?' you asked. a lot had happened today a lot that made you think things over and you decided to start there.
"what do you mean?" he asked with a chuckle. "I've been right here like i always have."
you shook your head. "Most days we can't find you, its been me and the kids or just me in the house, a lot has changed since those two came around most of its been for the better but i didn't think it would drive you away."
he frowned. "do you trust me?"
"Of course." you answered without hesitation.
"I've been working on something i cant tell you what but it's important. and I'll tell you what if it bothers you so much, I'll be around more." you smiled.
"good, I miss you." you said bumping into him.
you both chuckled and then there was a beat of silence you looked up at the sky and took a breath. "Stanford."
"Yea?"
"I think...we'll in light of some recent events...Stanford you mean the world to me."
"uh-oh is something wrong? why are you getting all sappy?"
you took another breath and exhaled all the words you were trying to say.
"Stanford pines I think I'm in love with you and I think you feel the same way about me!" you covered your mouth after you spilled it all. and he stared at you in shock. "Y/n...I uh..."
"I know this is random...buy. You know better late than never, right?"
stan stared at you in awe where your eyes sparkling in the starlight. was this really happening to him right now?
"Stanford?" you placed a hand over his when went silent. normally he would jump at an opportunity like this. sweep you off your feet. But as he stared at your hopeful eyes all he could do was wonder how much of what you felt was really for him, Stanley Pines and how much of it was for who you had believed him to be.
"Oh come on Grunkle stan! Take her on a date already!" Mables voice shouted from above you.
"Mable? what are you doing up!?" you shouted standing to your feet to look up at the twins practically hanging out their window. "yea c'mon Grunkle stan!" dipper agreed with his sister.
"Date! Date! date!" the two kids cheered into the night air.
"alright! alright!" stan said trying to shush them.
"y/n...would you do me the honors of going to dinner with me?" you laughed and his heart swelled at your answer. "Of course Stanford pines."
I'd love to hear Stanley's thoughts/POV on the yandere Billford drabble (ESPECIALLY if it's in the same continuity as the yan!Stanley drabble)
he's obviously more morally conflicted but 👀👀👀👀
I originally hadn't intended on it being set in the same continuity, but oh my God. Can you IMAGINE. It's everything Stan's wanted but in the worst way possible. The kids are so afraid and it's terrible, it makes his heart break for them... But it also pushes them straight into his arms.
He doesn't exactly like what Bill and Ford have got going on. He feels lucky to not have to see what the outside world has become.
I can even see Stan agreeing to be the 'good cop' to Bill and Ford's 'bad cop'. Bill and Stanford are open about their intentions and wanting to make them into a little family - not by force, no! That'd be too easy for Bill, and both Stan and Ford would want the twins to not only accept their reality but also grow to love and be happy with it. Bill and Ford slowly push the twins' boundaries and reinforce the idea of being a family and this being a permanent reality, and when it gets too much for them, their Grunkle Stan is there to reassure them and promise that he's on their side.
It hurts Stan's heart to see them so upset, for them to rush into his arms for protection and safety... But it's also really nice. So, so nice to be needed and loved. To be a source of safety for them. To know that, to Dipper and Mabel, he is the one person left they can rely on and depend on.
He's probably done more for them by now than their parents ever have. Heh, good riddance. They probably don't even deserve their kids. They're in better hands with Stan now - at least, that's what he keeps telling himself.
This is how it needs to be. And one day, they'll stop fighting and see this is for the best. But until then, he gets to be the one person Mabel and Dipper can count on. He gets to be their hero. And Stanley is more than willing to wait an eternity for his kids to come around.
Hello, Hello!
This is the first fanfic I have ever ever written!! Isn't that cool?
Just so you know, this is a fanfic about tickling, so if you dislike that then please don't interact!
Lers: Grunkle Stan, Mabel
Lee: Dipper
"Give it back!!"
That was the first thing Grunkle Stan heard that morning. Judging by the screechy girlish nature of the voice...it was probably Dipper. it was just a little too girly to be Mabel. It was too early for this. Only thirty minutes past noon, we're they trying to take away his beauty sleep or something? It was probably some pointless argument that could be settled with less than a paragraph anyway...may as well check on them. He knew how big stupid fights could get between siblings.
"Oh c'mon..."
He groaned, sitting up and cracking his back before dragging himself downstairs. There he saw the sight of the problem: the journal. Mabel was holding it above her head, running around while trying her darn hardest to convince him into taking a break.
"Oh come on Dipper! Just for one day! Take a break, you'll be fine!"
"I can't take a break! We don't know everything that's out there! Give it back!"
Right before he tried to snatch it, she pulled away, running up to Grunkle Stan. Her and Dipper ran circles around him, who was barely processing what was happening in his sleepy un-caffeinated state, groaned and grabbed Dipper by the back of his jacket.
"Look kiddo, shooting star here is right. You keep your nose stuffed in that book 24/7, you'll give yourself bad eye sight like me."
Dipper fought against his grip, trying to tug himself away while shooting Mabel a half hearted glare.
"But I still have things to be doing! Grunkle Stan you don't get it! I need the journal back!"
Stan groaned and thought for a moment or two. How was he supposed to work this out between the two? Especially when he wasn't entirely awake, nonetheless. He knew a few tactics that tired Dipper out, but judging by the chaos he was woken up to, no, he had to go big or go home.
"Mabel, hide the journal somewhere and meet me in the living room with your brother."
"What?! But Grunkle Stan!-"
"No buts! You wake me up over something stupid? You'll learn not to."
Without letting Dipper really process those words, Mabel already running off to hide the book, Stan brought Dipper to the living room by the arm. He sat down and gripped both his shoulders, making eye contact and speaking in a serious yet concerned and somewhat soft tone.
"Look kid, you're too young to be worried about this whole...cryptid thing. I understand you have a nack for it, but take a break why don't ya?"
Dipper avoided eye contact for a few moments before nodding, giving a soft sigh and looking up at him again. He felt bad for causing his Grunkle stress, but he just had to find out what was going on with Gravity Falls.
"I'm almost a teenager though, and I know I can handle it! Please, I have so many things that I'm close to solving, I can't just...take a break now!"
"He can't even take a shower!"
Mabel chimed in, skipping from the doorway over to the two and looking at Grunkle Stan. He decided that enough was enough, it was time to make him relax, even if it was by forcing him into exhaustion.
He suddenly took two of Dippers wrists in one hand, taking off his hat since he'd probably squirm so much it fell off anyway. He then gave him a serious look, though it quickly turned into more of a mischievous smirk than anything as he raised his other hand, wiggling his fingers at him.
"You've been so busy with that book that I've practically forgotten what your laugh sounds like...Mabel sweetie? Get his ribs."
"WHAT-?!"
he went bright red in the face and nervously squeaked, leaning away from the hand that Stan was slowly moving towards his belly. He bit his lip, but it failed to cover the nervous yet giddy smile slowly forming.
"Oooh, gladly!"
His sister joining in too? That just wasn't fair! He'd probably be dead by the end of this. He leaned forward and away from her hands, only to yelp as he bumped his stomach against Stan's hand. He gave a soft burst of giggles and jerked back, only to find his ribs being spidered across by Mabel's fingers.
"MAahahahabehel!!"
He protested, trying to move away from her only to find his Grunkle's hand was still there waiting for him to do just that. He felt like a fly in a spiders web, and the idea of getting that journal back today wasn't looking good either...
Eventually both hands had closed in on him. One was scribbling all over his belly and occasionally jumping to his side to catch him off guard, while two more hands were running up and down his ribs and digging into the spaces in between. He let out multiple loud and embarrassingly girly shrieks, laughing his head off and trying to tug both arms down to no avail.
"WAHAahahahait- Gruhuhunkle Stahahan!! Thihis isn't fahahair!"
"Yeah well life ain't fair kiddo. You're taking a nap."
"I'm nohot evehen tihihirehed!!"
"You will be after this!"
Mabel suddenly shot back, moving her hands to his back and wiggling her fingers against his spine. One went up and down it rapidly while the other focused on where it met the neck, making him scrunch his shoulders up and snort a few times from laughing so hard.
"NONONOHONOnOHOHhohohooo!!- not theheRE!! Snrk- MAHABAHAL!!"
He squealed out, kicking his legs since his arms were still trapped, a wide smile stuck across his lips as he squeezed his eyes shut. He could feel his face burning bright red from the embarrassment of the situation, but it actually did feel kind of nice to relax like this for once...
He quickly regretted ever starting to enjoy it as he felt his shirt get lifted up, followed by Grunkle Stan picking him up and snickering down at him. He took a deep inhale before pressing his lips to his stomach, blowing a long raspberry against the skin. He flinched slightly at the shriek that Dipper produced, but managed to tune it out after a few seconds.
"GHAAAAHhhahaha!!- hic- NAHAHAH!! GRUAHAHANKAHAL-!!"
He shrieked out, pushing at his shoulders and head now that his arms were free while trying to squirm out of his lap. The bit of facial hair mixed with the raspberrys were driving him up the wall within seconds, and it didn't help that Mabel decided to start scratching at the hollows behind his knees.
He let out loud, high pitched cackles, repeatedly snorting and hiccuping whenever he attempted to take a break. Tiny tears pricked at the corners of his eyes, his face scrunched up with how hard he was laughing. He started to get really wheezy, his brain shutting off for the most part due to being tickled senseless.
He kept laughing for maybe another minute or so, and despite really wanting to work on that journal yet again, he had his limits. He patted the back of Stans head, barely managing to speak through his own laughter.
"I'LL REHEST!! Ihihi'll rehehehehest pleEAHAHAA-!!!"
Him, who was already out of breath himself from blowing so many raspberries back to back, pulled his head away and let Dipper relax. Mabel gave a victorious grin and ruffled her twins hair, leaning on the seat while looking down at him.
"I knew you would! Come on, let's go to bed. I'll help you make your bed, it's a mess."
He only mumbled in response, still decently giggly from the tickle attack he was just forced through. After regaining his bearings, he managed to stand up, hugging himself and smiling at the two.
"Yeah yeah, okay..."
He considered saying something, but decided against it. They didn't need to know he actually had enjoyed that...as if they couldn't tell already though. He gently hugged Stan for a moment, yawning as he spoke due to being worn out.
"Good night, Grunkle Stan!"
"Night kiddo."
He fondly smiled back at him, ruffling his hair before breaking off the hug. He watched Mabel and Dipper leave to go upstairs, sighing before shutting his eyes. He'd probably just crash on the couch since he was still tired, but at least Dipper was gonna rest too. That put him at ease.
Mabel finished fixing his bed up for him, gently pulling a blanket back so he could lie down under it. He curled up under the blanket and gave a soft, content sigh, hugging a plushie Mabel let him borrow for the night. He shut his eyes, mumbling a soft "thank you" to Mabel, then slowly starting to doze off.
He smiled as he felt her ruffle his hair, the feeling helping his brain shut off into a peaceful sleep. He had the rest of summer to work, which still wasn't exactly a whole lot of time, but...maybe just...one day would be fine to rest. Not like he could or wanted to get out of bed now anyway.
He'd get back at Grunkle Stan and Mabel for this though.
Gravity Falls fanfic I’m too lazy to write
Bill Cipher has been in the Theraprism a LONG time. It’s a good thing the Theraprism is in the neutral zone, outside of time because – if clocks worked there – he would have been there for 42 lifetimes of the universe.
It’s been slow work but Bill has made some progress. He’s at a point where he’s confronted the horrible things he’s done. He’s no longer living in denial and hiding behind a cheery façade. Unfortunately, he’s now deep in self-loathing and he’s been there for a long time, unable to move forward and grow.
Then the unthinkable happens. Something happens to the Theraprism and Bill takes his chance. He ends up back in our universe.
Half dead, glitchy and weak, Bill starts traveling backwards through his own timeline. Everywhere and when he finds himself, he desperately trying to change how things turned out and thwart his past self’s plans.
Bill arrives the day before ‘Dipper and Mabel vs. the Future’ and enters Mabel’s dream.
“Mable! Tomorrow you’re going to have a really bad day. I know you don’t want summer to end but when the Time Traveller turns up and offers you more time, don’t give him anything!
It’s a trap. I’ll be… he’ll be…
Look I’m from the future and past me possessed him. Just ask him to take off his goggles so you can see his eyes.”
He jumps further back. Dipper has been trying to guess the password to the laptop for two days and he’s getting nowhere. Bill’s past self is going offer to give Dipper a ‘clue’ in a few days time but current Bill gets there first.
“Dipper! Don’t scream! Everything’s fine! … or it will be. Just shut up and listen! This is important!
The password is ‘Stanford’ and the laptop was made by McGucket. The Journals were written by your Grunkle Ford. He fell through a portal 30 years ago and your Grunkle Stan’s been secretly trying trying to get him back ever since. He’s going to succeed.
Don’t ever make a deal with me. I can’t be trusted and the price is always too high.”
Bill jumps back again and again and again. The thing is, he’s been chased. Time Baby wants the Time Anomaly Removal Crew to catch him because his actions are causing new timelines to splinter off from what Time Baby sees as the ‘canon’ one. Bill’s old guards/therapists want to catch him and drag him back to the Theraprism for more treatment.
However, the worst danger Bill is in, is from his past self. He’s traveling back down his own timeline after all and his past self is always nearby.
Past Bill hates what he sees as a pathetic, broken version of himself. If he ever catches himself, first he’ll find out what happened to make a future version of himself turn out this way so he can avoid making the same mistakes. Then, he’ll kill this miserable excuse of a Bill Cipher. There’s only room for one of them and past Bill is going to make sure he comes out on top.
Current Bill never actually planned any of this out. He’s doing the best he can. If he has any sort of aim, it’s to make it back to before he killed his home universe. Hurt and weaken as he is, Bill still thinks if he makes it back that far, he can probably kill his younger self. Either way, he doesn’t plan to ask the Axolotl for another chance this time around.
🏖️ A beach episode 🌊
Older!Dipper pines x reader, Douce amere chapter 23 ~4.0k words Masterlist Prev
Tumblr media
The state of your head meant you couldn’t swim much. Getting water on it, especially dirty water, like that of the Gravity Falls lake was a bad idea. Having the cut contaminated or infected was a big no-no. Even with it healing well, there was still a somewhat open wound under your bandaid, and the cover was far from water proof. That being said, you also weren’t a bitch.
You just couldn’t let the water touch your head. Seemed easy enough.
Your flip flop broke on the way to the shore, so Dipper gave you a piggy back ride, and you kicked your other sandal at Mabel, who walked ahead of you. She didn’t dodge, and it hit her in the back. The Grunkles were grabbing things from the trunk: floaties, a chair for Stan, some weird invention of Fords that would do… something to the water.
Dipper let you down on the dock, where you wouldn’t get sand stuck on your feet.
The dock was worn down from years of splashing and walking, and you’d been told it was the place where Mabel got her first kiss. And with a merman Dipper was not fond of. That was a fun bit of mythology.
The lake wasn’t exactly crowded, but it was on the busy side. You couldn’t be too surprised considering the good weather. On the beach, the cops, Blubs and Durland were laying in towels and giggling to themselves over magazines you couldn’t make out from the dock. A couple of Wendy’s brothers were on the water fishing. Mcguckets son was lecturing some teenager sternly.
Stan had used the car to inflate a couple floats. He was walking towards the three of you, tube in hand, a  nice one too. It had a headrest, and netting in the bottom to sit on.
“Oh my god, look at that!” Mabel said, pointing into the water.
You looked. The lake water was a little dirty, tinted greenish from some underwater plants growing off the dock legs.
“Um, what?” Dipper asked, leaning over the edge of the dock. You fought the urge to push him in, he hadn’t wronged you in a while, probably didn’t deserve it.
”Yeah, I don’t see anything, what are we looking at?” You asked, studying the lake. You didn’t even see any fish.
Mabel looked up at the both of you, jaw hung open. She pointed accusingly at the small waves. “You guys seriously didn’t see that?” She asked, brow raised. “It was like- I fucking huge fish or something!”
You pursed your lips, glancing back at the water. It seemed all clear. “Uhhh,” you looked at Dipper, who had a matching look of apprehension, with a little curiosity. “Yeah, I didn’t see anything,” you admitted.
Dipper put his hand up like he was in a classroom, “I also didn’t see-“
“Hey kids, catch,” Stan called, hurling the tube like a frisbee.
You turned around to look at the shore where he came from. “Huh-“ the tube hit you square in the face. The impact of the rubber got your straight in the forehead. For a soft material, it sure did hit hard when you had stitches in your face. “Fuck!”
You heard Stan suck a breath in through his teeth, “Sorry, my bad,” he said.
Dippers jaw was hanging open as he looked at Stan, and Stan shot a thumbs up with a guilty smile and shuffled away.
Mabel swooped I’m in front of you to look at your head. “Bandaids still on,” she said, examining the edges. She picked up the tube Stan threw, and handed it to you. “So your still alive, that’s good!”
You grimaced. At least you could tell your head was getting better, because it didn’t stay bad for long. You blinked a few times, and the pain was nearly gone. “Yippee,” you said dryly.
                                         …
Dipper and Mabel could swim, and you could… hangout. When they went in the water, you lounged in the tube.
Mabel actually had one too. She swam to shore to grab a float shaped like a pizza slice. She flopped up on it, and laid on her back, saying she was trying to get tan.  Her head was buried face down in the crust.
You might’ve rested your sunglasses on your forehead if not for the bandage. Instead, they were over your eyes as you lounged on the tube, and you hoped to god that your sunscreen would be enough to avoid a sunglasses tan line.
It was surprising how good a job you were doing keeping the water off your face. The headrest of your float was completely dry.
The twins traded the pizza slice around. Dipper ended up sitting on it, holding onto the side of your tube so he didn’t drift away. The tube was much higher in the water then Dippers float, so for today you were taller than him. Felt good.
Mabel insisted on diving for pearls. You and Dipper ended up slowly drifting away from her spot by the docks, carried by the weak waves. You caught a glimpse her feet above the surface before she vanished under the water for another dive.
You leaned over to Dipper, “I feel like we should be betting on if she finds anything, you know?”
He leaned on the tube, and you smiled seeing up close how you were a good head and a half taller than him like this. “She totally won’t, right?” He said, half as a question.
You shrugged, “I don’t know.” She came up for air again, and took her goggles off to get some water out of them. When she saw the two of you facing her, she waved enthusiastically before putting them on again and diving. “I would say no, but it’s Gravity Falls, you can never know for sure,” you grinned.
Dipper snickered. “Okay, if she finds a pearl, it’ll be super weird,” he said, talking with his hands as he tried to draw an elaborate picture in the air.
“Or better yet,” you added, “not even a pearl. She finds some weird cursed gem or artifact.”
He tapped at the rubber of the float. “Okay, I like your thinking,” he said, “but she’s so shallow, like what, did some dude just drop some weird magic thing off the dock?”
You waved your hand in dismissal as you snickered. “Well maybe, like a wizard or something was walking one night and just keeps shit in his pockets,” you said, trying to think. Thinking was hard through. “Or it’s just washing up from the tide.”
Dipper snorted, “washing up from where? This is not a big lake.”
You winced, swishing your cheeks around your mouth. “Uhhh,” you started.
Before you could come up with something, Dipper gasped. “Wait no- no you’re right,” he said quickly, looking over at the island in the other side of the lake. “I, uh- remembered. There is very much weird shit in here.”
You pursed your lips, “Okay, well now I’m worried.” The best you could think of was how Mabel’s merman boyfriend somehow ended up in the ocean from here, so it clearly connected somewhere. That or you could make up some underwater ancient city.
Dipper glanced around, then pointed at the island on the far side. “I’m like, eighty percent sure that island is alive, and it’s a giant floating head,” he whispered. “But we’re fine, we’re… so far over here.”
”Um,” you said, trying to think about that. You had nothing though. Your head was completely empty. You’d totally been on that island before.
In very convenient timing, you caught a dark glimmer under the water under you. Like… a big fish. But it didn’t look right in the way it moved. “Dipper,” you said sternly, pointing to the water.
He hummed, looking first at you, then following your finger. Luckily, it was still in a sight. A big, maybe human sized, dark shadow swimming… towards the dock. You could tell Dipper saw it, because his face first lit up with excitement, then fell. Mabel had just come up for air.
You and Dipper looked at each other, then back at Mabel. The dark shadow had disappeared in her direction. “Dude,” you said.
”Yep,” he affirmed quickly.
You turned, and started to paddle your tube back over to the dock. Dipper looked like he was about to do the same. You poked at his arm, “you can just swim over, man,” you said.
He glanced at Mabel, then at the pizza slice. “Yeah, okay,” he said, rolling back into the water.
As he started to swim away, Mabel raised her hand above the water, and you couldn’t hear what she was saying. It looked like she was holding something to show. Maybe a pearl.
In a blink though, she was almost under. Your eyes widened as her head, all but the top of her hair sunk. Then she was back with a gasp, thrashing.
You sat right up, pointing, “Holy fuck!” You couldn’t tell if Dipper saw, but he definitely heard. He looked back at you for a moment. “Go get her!” you yelled, frantically trying to paddle over. How important was your head? Should you just jump in?
You worried faded quickly though, as Dipper picked up the pace swimming to the dock. He’d get there far faster than you could anyway, now. So you paddled as best you could.
Mabel disappeared under, and Dipper was close enough to dive after her. And for a good moment, it was oddly quiet. Most of what you heard was your own paddling. You swallowed hard. Ford was far off on the shore doing something with the water. Stan was asleep on his chair. The rest of the people on the lake didn’t seem to see anything. It was just you, the twins, and some random sea monster. Or… lake monster.
By the time you got close, they were still under. You tapped against the tube. You pulled your feet out of the water, like touching it would get you pulled down too. Should you just go? You stood up, and peered over into the waves.
Just then, you heard the surface break behind you, and gasps for air. You whipped around, nearly falling off as you did. Your knees hit the netting in the tube as you crashed down. “Guys?” You asked, paddling over to them.
Dipper was holding Mabel, who looked more shaken up, and swimming towards you. You offered a hand, and he made Mabel take it first. Only sliding around a little bit, you managed to help haul her into the tube beside you.
Next was Dipper. Three people in one tube was not great, but it beat touching the water. You caught a glimpse of the shadow fish under you just as Dipper was climbing on. You held the pizza slice float like a weapon to bat it away if it tried anything. It didn’t.
Dipper and Mabel were panting, and Dippers eyes were locked on the water.
“Guys, what happened?” You asked, starting to paddle to the dock. If you could climb up onto it, you wouldn’t have to be on the water so long. Dipper must have had the same idea, because he started helping.
But he also kept looking back at the water. The fish was gone, though. He hummed lowly, “there was-“
”-That bitch had arms!” Mabel shouted, staring at her hands. They were shaking a little. “And they were fucking gross!”
You grimaced. Fish with arms. Alright. You got to the dock, and Mabel was talking about the fish with arms, and black hollow eyes, according to her. The dock wasn’t too high off the water. With a boost at the feet, you and Dip got Mabel up first, then you, then you both helped to pull him up. You had his hands, so he brought the floats up one with his leg, and one with his teeth.
You all sat on the dock a moment, catching your breath. You looked around. Nobody seemed to notice the commotion, somehow.
“Guys!” Mabel shouted, pointing at the water.
You rushed over to the edge to see. The big fish was moving towards the shore, and closer to the surface. You could see the… arms.. flowing at its sides more clearly now that Mabel pointed them out.
You scanned the beach. Nobody was too near the water except… Ford, kneeling by the waterline with a little machine. You sucked a breath in through your teeth, “God, Fuck.”
The fish moved pretty fast. The three of you stood up, and started to run.
Running felt weird on the head. You slowed to a jog while the others sped to Ford.
The fish got there first, though. Dipper and Mabel were calling his name, but Ford didn’t seem to be listening. He was staring at the water. The dark shadow was swirling where he knelt, and Ford seemed hypnotized.
“Cathrine, you came!” He said giddily. His eyes were wide and enchanted as the fish emerges from the water.
The twins slowed down, stopping to stare. You caught up to have with them. The fish, apparently named Cathrine, was disgusting. It… or maybe she- had arms that moved and sagged and hung like kelp, and were the same colour, too. She didn’t have fingers, instead just… leaves. Her hair was a wet lump of darker plant, cooled down her back. Her skin was also a murky green, and feathered with plants and dusted with sand.
Mabel was gaping, and pointed at the slimy kelp hands, “oh my god, that touched me,” she said meekly.
“Great uncle Ford!” Dipper yelled, cupping his hands around his mouth. “Get away from that, it’s dangerous!”
His warning were in vein, though. Ford finally looked over at the three of you on the docks, and just waved happily, “Hi Kids!” then went back to staring into Cathrines eyes. Or… actually you weren’t sure if it had eyes, you didn’t see its face.
Dipper started speed walking to him again, and you and Mabel followed behind. He stopped suddenly, “wait, Cathrine?” He said, one hand moving to his chin.
You and Mabel shared a glance, silently agreeing not to interrupt his thought process.
”Cathrine- ugh, where do I recognize that…” he grumbled, string between the wood planks of the dock into the water. He snapped his fingers, “oh my god, I’ve got it,” he said, looking at Ford again. “Great uncle Ford wrote in the journal, he used to date a siren names Cathrine, do you guys think…” he trailed off, and you all looked at the big fish again.
Yeah, she could look like a Cathrine.
“Okay, so let’s kick her away from him, right?” You asked, eying Cathrine.
They nodded.
When Ford saw you all approaching again, he grinned even wider at you. He pointed the three of you out to Cathrine, who turned her head to look, and for the first time you saw she did have eyes. She had hollow, pure black eyes, and completely sunken in skin, worn down like when water blazes a trail into stone. Her cheeks could have been a river, and her wrinkles like streams.
“Kids, come meet Cathy!” Ford called happily. How Stan was still asleep on the chair with a magazine over his face, you’d never understand.
Dipper practically wheezed, “fucking Cathy?” He looked frantically between you and Mabel, then back to Ford. He shouted across the water again, “That thing tried to drown Mabel!”
Ford waved his hand, “she wouldn’t do that,” he said quietly, possibly forgetting that you were all across the dock from him.
That might’ve been the last straw. The three of you started running to the shore again to catch Ford before something unfortunate happened. You had to slow down for your head, but even in a jog the old planks of the dock hammered under your feet.
“You’ll love her,” Ford declared happily, taking her slimy kelp hands in his own to hold lovingly. “I think we’re going to finally tie the knot!”
Mabel had to stop running to cough and sputter as she started to laugh. “Go on without me,” she wheezed, planting her hands on her knees to support herself.
You heard Dipper mumble under his breath at her, but he kept forward towards Ford. When your feet hit the sand and dirt off the ground, Dipper was already close. Mabel coughed behind you as she caught up.
Ford was entranced in Cathrines eyes, and she was subtly pulling him closer by the hands. Well, not that subtle, actually, if you could notice from across the beach. Subtle enough that Ford didn’t seem to pay any mind. “I can’t believe it,” he said dreamily. “After all these years, I found you again.”
 ”No fucking shot,” you said, turning to Mabel as the two of you rested. Damn your head. Dipper was the only one doing anything productive.
Catherine pulled harder, and Ford started idly leaning more toward the water, until he was wading in on his knees to follow her direction. It was only when she smiled wide that you saw her mouth. Her lips blended well into her skin, almost unnoticeable until she opened her jaw, and you could see the rows upon rows of sharpened teeth.
“Great uncle Ford, no!” Dipper said, as if he was scolding a dog.
You and Mabel shared a glance, and decided rest time was over. You both tried to catch up with them.
Just as Cathy tried to yank Ford into the water, Dipper practically tackled him, wrapping his arms around his torso and pulling him back. “Great uncle Ford, snap out of it!” He yelled, turning his head so he didn’t scream in Fords ear.
“D-dipper, what are you doing?” Ford asked, with all the hurt in his tone of a kicked puppy. He fought back against Dipper, and was far stronger.
Luckily, just as he broke free, and Dippers grasp broke, you and Mabel got there. She took his arms, pulling them out of Cathy’s grip, while you shoved Ford onto his side in the sand and held him down. Ford tried to thrash and resist, but Mabel kept a firmer grip than Dipper did.
“Ford, you fuck,” you said, looking as Cathrines deranged smile curled into a teeth scowl. “Do we have to kill you? What’s going on?”
“She’s the love of my life!”
Dipper groaned, glaring down Cathrine.
Ford struggled against you and Mabel, hard. Mabel grumbled holding back his arms as his thrashing grew more desperate the closer Cathrine inched to the sand. Ford tried to wiggle towards her, so you sat on him to hold him down.
You looked to Dipper, expecting help. Or for him to swat the creature away. Instead, he was staring down Cathy, with what at first looked like a glare, but you went on to realize was… a trance. “God fucking-“ you started. You tried to reach him without moving too far from your post, but it didn’t work. At least Dip wasn’t moving.
Cathy had turned her attention to your boyfriend, and Ford was not happy. “Cathy?” He practically begged.
You were also not happy. “Dip,” you said, snapping your finger at him to get his attention. It didn’t work. In fact, he hadn’t blinked the whole time you’d been looking at him. You glanced back at Mabel, still holding thrashing arms. Ugh. “Dipper, snap the fuck out of it,” you complained.
The siren creeped closer to him, and he made no effort to move away. Worse, he knelt down to her level. Mabel seemed to notice too, “uh, bro?” She asked.
“Ok, Mabes, let’s both agree not to look too hard at Cathy, alright?” You said, trying to keep the fish out of your peripheral. “Cuz he can’t look away right now.”
Mabel nodded, averting her eyes. At the very least, Ford was calming down. Well, no. Calm was not the right word. Ford was depressed and disparaged like you’d never seen before, practically melting into the sand rather than thrashing for escape.
You tentatively got up from Ford. The moment your weight was off him, he sprang up and tried to lunge for Cathrine. “Oh, fuck off,” you grumbled, tackling him again and holding him down. A low groan escaped his lips.
Things were getting worse for Dipper though. Slowly, as if crossing a threshold, he outstretched his hand for Cathrine, despite Fords despondent wails. Her disgusting slimy leaves were dangling above him as she lowered them onto his palm. You made mental note not to touch his hands until he washed them.
You looked at Mabel. There seemed to be a stalemate going on. “Ok, what if one of us takes arms and body,” you suggested, looking at Fords sad face resting in the sand.
“Oh!” She perked up. “I can try,” she offered.
“Uh, on three?” You asked. You shared a nod and started to count.
On three, you leapt up towards Dipper, shoved him out of the way. You pressed your eyes into a squint as you faced Cathy, trying to avoid her face. Holy fuck her gross hand was near your legs.
You squirmed at the thought of that touching you, and your legs moved on their own. In a swift motion that you didn’t even fully register, Cathrine was kicked in the head. Easy, since she was low to the ground on the water.
The moment your foot collided with her face, you regretted it. Still barefoot, you could feel her grainy, slimy skin on yours, and feel the way her jaw moved with your hit, and the way it freaked with the motion. You squeaked as you recoiled away, almost wanting to cleave your foot from your body.
Cathrine hissed, with a remarkably similar reaction to you. She slithered away back under the water like a snake, and swam away. That was all it took?
You looked back to take stock. Mabel had knocked the wind out of Ford landing on his back, taking his arms down with her in a makeshift arm bar. Why in gods name she wasn’t doing that the whole time, you didn’t know. With Cathy gone though, he seemed to be doing better, and was actually spitting out the sand that had gotten in his mouth instead of gnawing on it defeatedly.
You glanced at Dipper, who blinked a few times. His eyes were watery, probably recovering from the dry spell staring context he seemed to have with Cathrine. “Hey, so-“ he started, looking at you, the Ford and Mabel, then the empty spot in the water where the siren was. “Um, what happened just now?”
You snickered, “Found out you’re into old fish hags.”
Ford mumbled out a dazed, “Don’t call her that, she’s a beautiful woman.” None of that was factually correct. She looked more like a fish.
Dippers face reddened. “I-“ he stopped himself, jaw hanging slightly open. He closed it, pursing his lips, “Yeah, I got nothing, actually.”
You rolled your eyes, and offered him a hand up. “Yeah, I didn’t think so, you freak,” you laughed smugly, “should I be jealous?”
He took the hand, brushing the sand off his legs. “Uh, maybe not you,” he said, glancing back at the ground. “But Great uncle Ford should be.”
He groaned again from the ground, and Mabel got off of him. “Do you guys, uh, wanna leave?”
You stared at the water a moment, scanning for anymore dark shadows underneath. Your eyes caught on the boat Wendy’s siblings were on. “Yeah, alright,” you affirmed. “Is somebody gonna wake Stan?”
“Not it,” Mabel said. You quickly echoed her, leaving Dipper the odd one out.
“Why are you guys the worst?” He said, walking off toward Stans chair. Ford mumbled an agreement from the ground, and you were fine to call the beach episode done. The water was not looking amazing after seeing its creatures. And you had to go home and wash your foot as soon as possible, since cutting it off wasn’t an option.
   "This evening has drained the life out of me," I muttered with a sigh.
        Entertaining all these people, and keeping the kids out of trouble was a full-time job in and of itself. This made me notice the main host himself had disappeared leaving me with all this extra work. How could he have vanished in the middle of the party without warning me?
        I stepped inside to look for him. He probably wanted a moment of peace and quiet. Like I also didn't need a break. But I took a breath knowing he's been pretty stressed recently. With the agents sniffing around and everything. I stopped in my tracks when I noticed everything got quieter, a little too quiet for my liking. I stepped back outside to see that everyone was gone even the kids.  That's when someone ran into me full force.
        It was Dipper, who stumbled back beside Mable.
        "What's going on!?" I asked as Mable and Dipper ran past me.
        They didn't have to say anything before being answered.
The zombie that had been chasing after them quickly rounded the corner. I ran after the kids and made sure they safely made it inside. I swiftly grabbed the axe left by the firewood pile and fought them off the porch till I could make it inside. I slammed the door shut and locked it hoping that would help.
        "What do we do? Where's Grunkle Stan?" Mable yells but he's nowhere to be found.
        "We need to board up all the windows!" Dipper yells.
        "We don't have time for that kiddo," I respond trying to stay as calm as possible
     It didn't and the windows were being busted open. They would quickly make their way inside. I pushed them behind me to protect them. I lifted the axe and fought off the ones that came too close.
        "Go upstairs," I ordered but the kids were too scared to move.
        I was facing the kids when a zombie quickly grabbed my arm but I was faster and pushed it away. I hit it with the axe as hard as I could killing it. That's when Stan appeared panting, his clothes torn, and his hat gone as his hair flew in every direction from the rush. He gestured to the kids and looked me in the eyes.
        "You three, attic? Now?" He yells getting all our attention.
        "Grunkle...Grunkle Stan?!" Dipper gasps.
        "I said now!" Stan yells again.
        I pushed the kids to make them rush as I stayed alongside Stan and helped him fight off the horde that followed us. He didn't question me and we fought back to back.
        "Hurry up and go, I'll be right behind you." He tells me.
        I don't want to leave him but I wasn't going to question him now.
        "Eat it, no eyes!" I hear Stan yell
         I hear A zombie growling as I make it up the stairs. I pull the kids into a hug and comfort them.
        "Anyone else wanna piece?!" Stan yells from downstairs.
        I hear things crash on the floor. My worry for Stan increases as I wait for him to safely make it back us. I couldn't forgive myself for leaving him if he didn't return.
        The kids rushed away from me to hold the door closed. But Stan rushes in and locks the door behind himself. He looked serious, his bat was gone and replaced with his brass knuckles. He showed the slightest sigh of relief when he knew we're okay.
        "Grunkle Stan, that was amazing! Are you alright? Heh heh, well, at least you can't deny magic exists anymore, right?," Dipper nervously mutters.
        The room went silent for a second before anything was said.
        "Kid, I always knew," Stan says with a sigh.
        Dipper looked astonished by his response.
        "I'm not an idiot, Dipper! Of course, this town is weird! And the one thing I know about that weirdness is that it's dangerous!" Stan says further explaining himself. " I've been lying about it to try to keep you away from it. To try to protect you from it!"
        I guess now was a better time than ever to tell the truth. I knew it was hard for Stan, and there was plenty more to say. But he was protecting the kids, one of the things I loved about him. He cared so much about his family even if he had trouble showing it.
        A zombie's hand breaks through the door. We backed away to the other end of the room and stand ready to fight. Then a zombie breaks through the window. Stan punches it and watches it fall to the ground, where a crowd of zombies is staring up at the Shack. More start crawling up the outside walls. I grab onto Stan's hand for comfort and he gently rubs his thumb across my hand.
        "It looks like I didn't lie well enough." He mutters under his breath almost too quiet for me to hear.
        "What do we do, what do we do?" Mable panics and grabs onto my sleeve.
        Dipper looked at the Journal giving no answers till he found the missing word shown by the black light.
        "Invisible ink?" Stan says to himself.
(Time skip)
        After everything was over I could finally breathe properly. I stayed outside to clean up a bit. Stan and the kids stayed inside to clean up all the damage. The outside fresh air always helped me when I wasn't feeling well. But what happened tonight wasn't gonna go away for a long time. I would probably just push it back and try to forget it.
        Once everything looked a bit better I decided to stay outside and sit on the porch. It was peaceful now, the stars were out and I loved the view.
        I hear the door creak open and Stan steps out. "What are you still doing out here?" He asks before walking over to sit beside me.
        "Nothing much, enjoying the night air I guess," I responded.
        "Fair enough."
        "What are the kids up to?" I ask.
        "They went to bed after helping clean up," he answers.
        "I hope they're okay," I say wrapping my arms around myself to ease the worry. "They've been through a lot today."
        "It'll be okay, their tough kids." He says wrapping his arm around my shoulder.
        "I guess," I say as a small smile spreads on my face.
        "Are you okay? you were pretty beat up earlier." I say looking Stan over for any sign of pain or injury.
        "I'm fine so no need to worry, Are you okay?" He asks.
        "Yeah, I'm fine," I say before laying my head on his shoulder.
        "Just know that as long as I'm still here I'll always keep you and the kids safe. Even if it kills me." Stan whispers sending a shiver down my spine.
        "That's good to know."
a/n: I wrote this a couple weeks ago and have not continued it since, so I decided to just post what I wrote
Danny was tired. It was exam season, the ghosts hadn't eased up on their attacks despite the stress he had with school, Jazz was off for college (meaning his parents expected him to pick up the slack and add her chores to his chore list...) he was more than tired. He was EXHAUSTED. You couldn't really blame him for what happened. ...at least that's what he's been telling himself.
Why is be being so dramatic, you ask? Well... he may have... sorta accidentally spaced out while flying and found himself waking up out in the middle of a forest full of pine trees. And this forest looked NOTHING like the forest in Amity park.
Now this wouldn't usually be a problem, right? Amity has such a big ectoplasmic presence, he could sense it from anywhere in the world! Except... as previously mentioned, he was physically and mentally exhausted, had barely eaten 3 sandwiches in the past week, hadn't gotten more than an hour of sleep a night (some nights getting no sleep at all) for over a month now... and to make things even better, he couldn't even ask for directions to a nearby city!
Ever since the whole Pariah Dark incident Amity (as in the city spirit of amity park) had decided that staying in one place was "too dangerous", so she'd started moving amity around the US with no apparent rhyme or reason.
Maybe it was because amity was a rather young city spirit, but this didn't achieve anything other than getting the GIW out of amity (they weren't able to reliably track the city location quickly enough to get there before it moved again, and amity has developed a tendency to leave them behind while moving herself, at this rate they would lose their funding before they managed to develop a way to locate amity quickly enough)
All that to say he's currently lost in an unfamiliar forest in the middle of nowhere, barely conscious, just praying to all the ancients (that he hadn't fought) that he could get some food and sleep before anything hostile could find him in this weakened state.
So far he had only heard a few distant animal noises, and there was no way he was attempting to eat something from a forest (he might have grown up eating ecto-infused food, but that didn't mean he had no standards for the food he put in his body! He wasn't going to attempt to eat something from an unfamiliar forest!
Danny hadn't gotten any closer to civilization from what he could tell, and he was running out of energy way too fast. So in a move of rare intelligence, he decided to find a tree with a strong looking branch, fly up to it, and drape himself on the branch for some hopefully undisturbed sleep. He didn't want any big forest animals finding him while he was asleep after all.
- - - - - - - - dipper pov - - - - - - - -
"hey mabel, isn't it weirdly quiet here today?"
Dipper and Mabel had gone into the forest with hopes of easing their boredom (and more importantly, get away from grunkle Stan and Ford's bickering), but so far they hadn't seen even a single red pointy hat peeking out in between the pine branches.
"maybe there's some new creature in the forest today..." he voiced out loud, a small part of him still wanting to prove himself to ford by finding something he had missed in his exploration of gravity falls.
"if it's scaring away all the other creatures, wouldn't it be better to call ford for help?" Mabel replied, worrying they might not be able to deal with it by themselves.
"nah, we can totally deal with this! we survived bill's weirdmageddon, we can definitely survive some weird new creature! have some faith in our strength, Mabel!"
"yeah, you're probably right, there's no use worrying"
10pm on a week night
Stanley Pines settled into his favorite chair. The kids were in bed, he had a bowl of popcorn, and two hours of “ The Duchess Approves” starting now on his local public television station. It was a perfect summer evening and he intended to enjoy it. He wasn’t sure how many he had left.
He'd never been looking forward to the end of summer. Having the kids under foot had been fun, even with the supernatural nonsense they regularly drug in. It hadn't been anything he couldn't handle so far, and he optimistically expected that to remain true. Now though, with Ford back, and wanting his house and his life back, things were about to get complicated. Stanley knew better than anyone how stubborn his twin could be. There was no point in arguing or begging. All he could do was hope Ford changed his mind before the end of August.
The opening music of his show drove those thoughts from his mind. Whatever happened at the end of summer was future Stan's problem, not his.
His evening was soon interrupted by the sound of children descending the stairs from the attic at high speed. They charged into the room breathlessly talking over each other.
“Grunkle Stan, there’s a wolf outside!”
“Good, that's where they belong!” He said, raising an eyebrow. He was pretty sure the kids had seen a wolf before, there were plenty of them in the area even after the game warden had convinced him to stop trying to keep them as pets.
He glanced down beside his chair to make sure the pig was in. Waddles was a regular companion when he watched TV. The pig liked dropped popcorn and Stan liked not having to sweep the floor. He didn't know where the goat usually spent the night, but that animal hadn't gotten as old as it was by being stupid, so wherever it went when the sun went down must be pretty safe.
“But Grunkle Stan, it has something caught around its neck, I think it needs help.” Mable, friend to all animals begged.
“I think it's a werewolf.” Dipper suggested.
Stan didn't think that was terribly likely. There were a few werewolves in town but they generally kept to themselves and certainly didn’t go prowling around on other people's property at 10pm on a weeknight. It was probably a loose dog, and the sooner they caught it and called its owner to come pick it up, the sooner he could get back to his show.
“It's probably just a lost dog, but let's go see.” He said, dragging himself up out of his chair. “You stay.” He told the pig.
The pig gave him a look that clearly said, “of course I'm staying here, I'm not stupid.”
The kids already had their flashlights, but Stan grabbed his on the way out of the room. The light was usually enough to deter the creatures of the night, and if it wasn't, the 18 inches of mostly metal flashlight made a decent club. Not that he expected to need it, but it was nice to have just in case.
As they headed down the hall the twins were having parallel conversations about the animal they had seen. Mable was concerned about whatever it had around its neck. According to her it had been trying to get it off. Dipper was still convinced it was a werewolf though he didn't seem to have any evidence for his claim. Stan hadn't yet heard anything that challenged his theory that it was a stray dog. Werewolves were too territorial to hang out in someone else's yard.
The door and windows of the gift shop were wide open. The shack didn't have air conditioning, so opening everything up at night to let the night air in was the only thing that kept it cool enough to sleep.
“Oh no, the werewolf could come in!” Dipper cried, noticing the door.
“It's not a werewolf,” Mable contradicted.
“It wouldn't come in if it was.” Stan explained “Werewolves respect other people's property.” It was nice to not have to hide the weird stuff from the kids anymore.
Mable gasped, “You know werewolves? Do you know any handsome ones my age?”
“No, I don't.” The game warden was neither.
Dipper had headed out the door and was shining his flashlight on the ground at the edge of the porch. “Hey Grunkle Stan, are these werewolf tracks?” he called, “Because they sure don't look like dog tracks.”
Stan walked to the edge of the porch with his own flashlight to have a look. They didn't look like any dog tracks he'd ever seen before, but they didn't look like werewolf tracks either. The central paw pad was wider than it should have been, and instead of four toe prints there were five. It didn't look like a human footprint. It looked like a canine print with an extra digit.
Tumblr media
“Oh,” Stanley said, as the pieces fell into place, “Yeah, that's a werewolf.”
As the children made noises of surprise behind him, he turned his flashlight to the bushes at the edge of the woods. “Where are you Ford? We know it's you.” He tried to keep the annoyance out of his voice. It would have been nice to  know that his brother was a werewolf before the full moon.
The bushes rustled and a large gray creature stepped out, squinting in the beam of the flashlight. If the wider than average front paws hadn't been a giveaway then the torn remains of a red turtleneck would have been. The rest of the shirt had been shredded to nothing, but the collar stubbornly remained in place.
Stanley knew his brother well enough that he could tell, even as a wolf, that Ford was embarrassed. Well if he'd been trying to keep this a secret, that might be why.
Stanly ignored the babbled questions from behind him. The kids could quiz Ford in the morning once he had changed back. He asked, “Are you going to bite anyone?”
Ford put his ears back and shook his head no, looking slightly offended.
“Why don't you come back inside then?” Stanley asked with a sigh, “it's your house.”
His brother stared at him for a long moment, then walked past them and in the door.
Waddles looked up at the arrival of the newcomer and sniffed in his general direction.  Identifying him as, “The Grunkle Less Likely to Drop Food,” he turned his attention back to the TV.
“Alright kids, yes, my brother is a werewolf, you can ask him about it in the morning, now go back to bed.” Stanley instructed, and the kids headed back up stairs.
Then he turned to look at his brother who was standing there, awkwardly, unsure of what to do with himself.
“Do you want me to let you back into your lab?”
The wolf shook its head no.
“Do you want to watch TV with me?”
After a moment's consideration, the werewolf shrugged, and followed him into the room.
The next morning Stanley sipped his coffee and watched with amusement as the kids barrage his brother with questions.
“Why didn't you tell us you were a werewolf?” Mable asked what Stanley was thinking and in a much nicer tone of voice.
“Well, I forgot.” Ford admitted, embarrassed.
“WHAAAT? How do you forget you’re a werewolf?” Mable cried.
“It’s been a long time since I was somewhere that had a moon, and I’d only been a werewolf for a few months before…” Ford trailed off looking at his brother.
“WHAAAT? There’s places that don’t have a moon?” Dipper exclaimed, perhaps unintentionally avoiding a moment of awkwardness.
“Well, yes, lots of places don’t have a moon.” Ford began, but Mable was not going to allow the subject to be changed so easily.
“Who bit you?”
“I had a bit of a misunderstanding with the game warden, and she ended up biting me.”
Stanley knew there had to be more to that story and looked forward to asking his brother about it for a brief moment before remembering that he was still mad at him.
“Do you know any other werewolves? Do you know any young handsome ones?” Mable asked. Apparently trying to get a black out on her supper natural summer romance bingo.
“Um, no, I don’t” Ford raised an eyebrow at her.
“Does it hurt to transform?” Dipper asked.
“Not really, a mild headache maybe, and, kind of like the feeling when you pop your knuckles, but all over.”
Stanly got up to make another round of coffee as the questions continued. He could see Ford getting more relaxed, and opening up to explain things. When they were young he’d always loved having an audience to explain things too. Maybe he still did? Maybe he’d let Stan stay. Werewolves were territorial of course, but they were also loyal. Maybe that was something to work with.
---------------------------
I saw @siro-cyll 's pictures of Ford as a werewolf and was inspired to write this.
WIP Wednesday - Chapter 6 of The Redemption and Subsequent Death of Bill Cipher
“Am I— Did I interrupt something?” Stan asks a little awkwardly.
“Nah,” Bill, who recovers much faster from gaping at Stan like a fish, leans back into the bench before punching Pine Tree’s shoulder. “Kid was just heading out to go break windows or something.”
“Better hope it’s not these windows or [you’re] cleaning it up,” Stan tells Bill before reaching out, shoving the bill of Pine Tree’s hat down over his eyes. Pine Tree grumbles and fixes it before turning a far brighter smile on Stan.
“Your sister’s looking for you. Something about trying to make a suit out of glitter.”
“Oh. Great.” Pine Tree rubs his face and gets to his feet. “Thanks, Grunkle Stan.”
He goes to the door and pauses to look at Bill for a second.
“Just… you know, I think you’re right. I think things will be okay again soon.”
Bill’s brow furrows as Pine Tree heads back inside before he starts chuckling as he shakes his head.
“Weird kid.”
“They’re receptive,” Stan says as he takes up Pine Tree’s seat and Bill tries not to groan. “Not that you’ve made it exactly hard to miss that things are weird between you and my brother. I think the temperature in the room drops by ten degrees every time one of you walks into it. And I thought things were bad with my ex-wife! Ha!”
Bill winces at that, pulling a face as he leans forward to bury his face in his hands.
“Yeah, well, we weren’t even dating—“
“No, you two were just sucking face anytime you were left unsupervised.”
“Please, Pine Tree already got onto me for this. I fucked up and—“
“Summoned a demon, yeah, I heard.”
Bill’s blood runs cold and he looks between his fingers at Stan. …he’s not swinging, he’s not snarling, and Bill can say he’s almost positive that this isn’t Stan then.
“…and you’re cool with that?”
“What? Oh, no, absolutely not. I almost strangled you in your sleep when my brother told me.”
Billy, admittedly, feels a little better with that admission.
“He also said that you came to him to get rid of said demon.”
“Yeah, well… I don’t know. Taking over the universe is so last year.”
Stan snorts at that.
“You’re, like, really cool with that?” Bill tries again. “Don’t want to, I don’t know, punch me in the eye?”
Now Stan shrugs.
“I wouldn’t go that far, but I think watching you walk around on eggshells, convinced one of us is going to take a swing at you or tell the Axolotl—“
“Axo— Oh, wait, no, you said it right.”
“I listen. I’m just saying, you know, you with your tail between your legs ain’t a bad look. Certainly makes me feel better.”
“…but, like, the whole breaking your brother’s heart? Trying to take over the universe? You’re sure you’ve got no murder held in your very large, very family-oriented heart?”
“Don’t go tempting me, Cipher, but… Ford’s an adult, you’re… maybe an adult, I don’t know, how do demons age?”
“Depends,” Bill admits, pulling a face. “Interdimensional demons live to about a hundred millennia or so, sometimes longer if they take care of themselves.”
“You said you were a dream demon though,” Stan remembers.
“Yeah, well, that’s a little more… complicated.”
Stan cracks open his pitt cola and gestures to Bill. He debates for a second before taking in a deep breath and sighing.
“I was born an interdimensional demon, a very precocious, adorable thing. Even though they’re relatively harmless, mostly brokers for deals made between species, they’ve got their own power. It doesn’t help that I was born… different.”
Bill’s voice gets soft, thoughtful.
“They tried to understand me, probably. They couldn’t though. A world full of two-dimensional idiots, they never understood what I saw, understood how I felt. So it was, you know, a little…”
“Othering?” Stan offers and Bill nods.
“Othering. Everyone adored me. ‘Special Billy’, ‘unique Billy’, ‘Billy who sees things no one else can see’.” […crazy Billy.]
Bill grips the bench a little too tight, knuckles turning white as he looks down at the ground.
“I won’t bore you with the sob story of a universe lost to a monster,” and maybe because it’s bad enough to admit it to Ford, admitting it to Stan who he still doesn’t trust not to come swinging at him is another thing, “but I ended up alone. I was drifting through time and space for, easily, a couple millennia. I spent a lot of time floating amongst the stars I’d stared at so long. I saw galaxies born, galaxies die; I saw nebulae explode and reform; stars would go through entire lifecycles in front of my eyes. It was me and the cosmos, so I guess I didn’t feel alone.
Ah yes.
Once again, Gravity Falls is consuming my brain. Which means it’s the perfect time to continue the story I haven’t touched in a year (lol)! Like, I’m a sucker for those fics where Dipper and Mabel (or just one of the twins) goes back in time, helping to prevent Ford accidentally falling into the portal. Heck, there’s even fics where the kiddie versions of Stan and Ford end up in the past. But then an idea began to take shape.
What if someone else somehow found themselves in the past?
Obviously it would have to be someone with a connection to our lovely (not yet) Grunkles. Their parents? That would end up being really messy and complicated. Shermie? Close but not quite. Who else then?
How about one of Dipper and Mabel’s parents?
And the idea of one of their parents ending up in the past brought up some interesting curiosities. What was it like for them growing up? What would happen if they found out about what Ford was doing? Or that the Uncle they thought was Stanford was actually Stanley? You know…the guy who they thought was dead. If they end up at a point w before the Portal Incident, they’ll figure out that Stan faked his death. They’d probably be very upset about it.
I decided to write the story with their mother falling into the past around the time of Stanley faking his death. I wanted her to be at an age where she’s not married or hasn’t had the twins yet so I had to do some calculations. I don’t know when that might’ve happened in canon but this will be what I’m working with:
Stanley is kicked out around the age of 17 and the baby his mother was holding probably around a year old.
Ten years pass. Stanley and Ford are 27, she is 10.
30 years pass. Stanley and Ford are 57, she is 40. The twins are 12.
40 - 12 = 28.
So between the age of when she’s 10 and 28 is when Stanley faked his death. I didn’t want to make her age too young or too old, somewhere in the middle. And if Stanley was kicked out at around 17…well it’s just more fun (and symbolic) if she was around the same age so I went with 15. Is it plausible that Stan waited 5 years to fake his death? Probably not but for the sake of argument, let’s say he wanted to make sure he wouldn’t lose the shack anytime soon. Business starts to boom, his image becomes more public, possibly to people who might be on less friendly terms with him. Fakes his death. And during all of this, he gets into contact with Shermie, maintaining their relationship with not only them but with his other family members as well. Including his niece who will later send her own kids off to him because she trusts him to look after them.
See? So much potential for angst- I mean, fixing the Pine twins relationship.
OKAY I FINALLY WATCHED GRAVITY FALLS. TEN YEARS LATE I KNOW. i was expecting to have to power through a bunch of boring kid stuff to get to the actual interesting drama and i was so so wrong i locked tf in and finished it in two days. it's so good what the actual fuck. heres my thoughts on the main characters
mabel: when i was the actual target audience for this show i saw a bit of mabel while flipping through disney XD and i immediately concluded that she was annoying af and i would never watch this show because of her. i would like to repent for this evil evil take by flinging myself belly down onto shattered glass. MABEL MY BABY GIRL...if they ever put her in another Situation or Scenario ill kill someone fr. she's a little too selfish and a little too pushy sure but so genuinely KIND and SWEET and so willing to make a fool of herself to pull her dumb brother out of his head. that unicorn doesn't know jack i hope she gets everything she wants forever
dipper: if i had watched gf as a kid i would have been in very real danger of naming myself after this guy (which doesn't even work bc im not nearly as cool as him!! the woodland creatures would have eaten my ass). it would've been so easy to give him a generic gaining confidence arc but he is never a coward when it really matters and i think that's great. he may not be able to talk to a girl but he can and will beat a gnome to death with a shovel for touching his sister!!! also yeah he is extremely transgender.
stan: OUUUUUGH. STARTS SOBBING. stanley pines the man that you are. i assumed at first that his plot would be about Learning To Love but no he is 100% on board with being the world's best grunkle from minute one. he definitely fucks up sometimes (putting waddles outside comes to mind as does. The Other Thing) but he always tries his very best to fix it. every action he takes just oozes with care for his family. every time i thought he had a motivation that wasn't his family they pulled the rug out from under me and revealed that it was, in fact, just his family again. he would give everything for them. AND HE LITERALLY DOES??? im gonna vomit. he hand stitched fishing hats 😭😭😭
wendy: definitely my least favorite of the main cast im sorry wendyheads...i just feel like there isn't a lot to get into here. every time they imply there's something more going on with her or her family they just snap her right back into The Coolest Girl In The World which might be fun but it's not that interesting.
soos: SOOS MY FRIEND SOOS!!!! i wobbled on him during the middle of the show bc i felt like they were making him Genuinely Dumb instead of just a good babysitter but they pulled his characterization back around by the end i think. he is like me in that he would also die for the mystery twins without hesitation or regret 💖. a lesser show would've been really mean about soos but gf is BASED and SOOSPILLED so he gets what he deserves. he does not have to lose weight or drop his "childish" interests or stop living with his grandma to WIN AT LIFE. awesome girlfriend! dream job! big house! stan using that boat to hunt down his bio dad and kill him, probably!
ford: ill be honest and admit i hated this guy at first but eventually i learned to live laugh love about his massive incredibly fragile ego ruining everything all the time and now i am a big ford enjoyer. what a FREAK oh my god. he believed his journals to be capable of destroying the world and still refused to destroy them because they're His Life's Work????? he had the painfully obvious option to tell bill he didn't know the equation and stall for time and chose instead to say that OBVIOUSLY he knows it he's the SMARTEST MAN ALIVE he's just not TELLING YOU 😤 and then immediately got tortured????? he spent most of his screentime projecting his relationship issues onto an Actual Child?????????? he needs to go to therapy and learn he's not the main character of the universe but he will not be doing that so i can only hope the boat fixes him. if i was stanley i'd've fed him to the shapeshifter.
bill: SIGH. YES OKAY HE'S MY FAVORITE. I KNOW I'M FUCKING PREDICTABLE DON'T @ ME. i spent 90% of his screentime cracking up and the other 10% making Homosexual Detection Eyebrows at my brother! the ideal ratio!!!!! i can't wait to get my hands on the book so i can poor little meowmeow him more efficiently. i knew i was saving that barnes & noble gift card for something important.
A fic I started writing a *while* ago and finally finished! I was going to try to draw something to go with it, but it's already been sitting for weeks or even months so...I'm just gonna share it now xD
Mabel is creating another sweater masterpiece, but then someone unexpected asks for her assistance.
Mabel was in the zone. Her fingers moved quickly, the clacking of her knitting needles filled the air. This was going to be a GREAT sweater. One of her best! Well, all of them were the best, but still!
She was vaguely aware of Dipper telling her he was going out with Soos and Stan to do…something, she didn’t quite catch what it was. But that was fine, this sweater would take up at least another hour, probably more. And if they weren’t back by then, well, she could start on another one. Or have a dance part with Waddles. Or about a million other things.
The TV was on as Mabel worked. She was half watching, half working, just how she liked it. Which is probably why didn’t notice Dipper leaving. Or just about anything else going on in the shack. That is, until someone coughed. Well, she might not have noticed that either, but it was kind of loud. Almost like they had already coughed once.
Looking up, a grin broke out on Mabel’s face as she saw Ford standing in the doorway.
“Grunkle Ford!” Mabel held up her sweater. “What do you think?”
Ford glanced at the sweater, taking it in for a moment, then a hesitant smile grew on his face. “It’s uh, it’s very colorful.”
“Right?” She held up the yarn she was using. “I have been wanting to use these colors for ages and I finally got around to it, and it looks awesome!”
Ford nodded, but didn’t say anything else, almost as if he was at a loss for words.
Then Mabel had a spark of genius. “Oh my gosh! I can make you a sweater! I’ve tried making some for Dipper but he never wears them. I think ‘cause of his sweating problem. And I’ve offered to make one for Stan too. He says he doesn’t need one, but I’ll wear him down soon, I know it. But! You already wear sweaters!”
For a moment, Ford just stared at her, then he shook his head. “Oh, ah. No, that’s fine. I don’t need a new sweater.”
Mabel’s shoulders drooped and the sweater she had been holding up fell in her lap. All the of ideas she had been coming up with in the last few seconds came screeching to a halt.
“Oh, but uh, I do actually have a favor to ask. And it does involve sweaters.” Ford pulled his hands out from behind his back and showed her the black turtleneck he had been wearing when he’d first come out of the portal, along with the red one she’d seen him wear for the past few days. It was only now that she realized he was wearing a white button up instead of his normal sweater, though his coat was pulled tightly around his neck. “These have a few holes in them. I…can patch them myself, but-”
“I can help!” Mabel sat up straight, her smile returning to her face. “I can do it right now if you want!”
Ford held up a hand. “Oh, no, that’s fine. Just when you have time. I’ll leave them here.” He placed the sweaters on the edge of the couch.
Mabel couldn’t stop herself from picking up one of them. “I can do it now, really, you could even stay and-”
“No, no. Really. It’s fine. There are some things I need to attend to.” Ford gave her an awkward smile which she tried to return despite her disappointment. She really wanted to get to know Ford better.
“I’ll leave you to your current project.” Ford raised a hand in farewell, then turned and left without another word.
Mabel frowned at the empty hallway where her grunkle had been. Then she glanced at the sweater in her lap. “Sorry rainbow sweater, but I have another project I gotta work on first.” Placing aside her colorful top, Mabel picked up the black turtleneck and frowned. It was so dark, and as she examined it, she saw a bunch of holes in it. The red one was better, but still way too holey.
Carefully placing all of the sweaters on the couch, she raced upstairs. Ford might’ve said he only needed a patch job, and he’s said there was no rush. but Mabel knew she couldn’t pass up this opportunity. This was her chance to make something for her new grunkle – even if it was just adding something to his current clothes – and she was not going to wait to get started.
------
Ford frowned as he stared at the rift, moving within its containment unit. He was still at a loss as to how to get rid of it, if he even could. It was just another reminder of his mistakes, and now, thanks to Stan, he was back to square one with stopping Bill too.
The sound of the elevator opening sent a wave of panic through Ford and he quickly closed the door to the cabinet he had been keeping the rift in. He’d told Dipper, yes, but he didn’t want to risk anyone else knowing about it.
“Grunkle Ford!”
Spinning around, Ford was met with the sight of Mabel grinning, her hands behind her back. He was more than a little surprised to see her, it had only been an hour or so since he’d gone upstairs to give her his sweaters.
“So, I know you said there wasn’t a rush, but I really wanted to work on your sweaters right away…” Mabel pulled her hands from behind her back to show him the sweaters. “But I really wanted to do them now!”
For a moment, Ford stared at her. She had worked fast! He wasn’t very knowledgeable about knitting, but he had always assumed it took a while to make something. Then again, he’d only asked for a patch job, so maybe that didn’t take as long.
Reaching forward, he picked up the top sweater – his red one – which, upon further inspection, he could see was now free of holes. “Thank you, Mabel, I appreciate-” He trailed off as he caught sight of his black turtleneck. Because it was no longer fully black. There were grey and white polka dots scattered over the whole thing and on the front was a stitched six fingered hand.
“You like it?” Mabel grinned, holding up the sweater. “There were a lot more holes, and I didn’t have much black left. And I thought ‘hey, everyone loves polka dots!’ and since you have a fix fingered hand on your journal, I figured that would be a fun touch too!”
For a moment, Ford just stood there processing the information. He’d only asked for a patch job, he really didn’t need anything extra, and he would’ve gladly waited for her to get more yarn that would match. But then he met her gaze and saw the pure excitement and enthusiasm shining in her eyes. He couldn’t help but remember her creativity when playing DD & More D, and the fact that she had channeled that into one of his sweaters and was so excited about it…He found a small smile growing on his face as well.
“Thank you, Mabel. I love it.”
“Really?!?” Mabel beamed, holding it out to him.
He accepted it and placed it above the red sweater that he had draped on his arm.
“Are you gonna try it on?”
Ford couldn’t help but laugh a little. “Alright, I’ll try it on.” He handed her the red sweater before carefully pulling the black one over his head. He glanced down at it and smiled. It wasn’t his style at all - even after thirty years in other dimensions, he still found himself trying not to draw attention to his extra fingers - but for some reason, he didn’t mind seeing it displayed on a sweater.
“It looks perfect! Now we really are sweater twins!”
“I suppose we are.” Ford smiled fondly at her enthusiasm. It really was contagious.
“Oh! I forgot! I need to let Waddles out for a bit, he’s been cooped up for hours and I can’t let him out without supervision!” Mabel quickly handed the red sweater to Ford and raced towards the elevator, but not before giving Ford one last grin. “I’m glad you love your sweaters Grunkle Ford!”
Ford watched as the elevator doors closed. Then he glanced down at the sweater before looking up at the dismantled portal and the cabinet with the rift in it. His work tended to be quite messy. With a frown, he carefully removed the black sweater and replaced it with the red. It was a special gift and he didn’t want to accidentally ruin it. No, he decided that it would be saved for very special occasions. After all, this was the first gift he’d received in a long time, especially from family. And for that, it deserved to be treated as the treasure that it was.
some late-night thoughts about my suicide ford au down here if anyone's down to listen. warning for the obvious mention of suicide.
sometimes I think about how genuinely upset I made Mabel at the news while Dipper's reaction was more low-key and I decide that there was a reason underneath the obvious ones. of course Mabel's upset, she just learned one of her grunkles committed suicide (or at least was planning to). then my mind wanders and here you go.
Mabel was exponentially more outwardly upset at the news because she barely even had a chance to interact with Ford before they left. Leaving Gravity Falls, she had the expectation that she'd be able to bond more with him in the next summer. and now she barely even knew him before he decided to leave them all behind forever. it was a very bitter feeling to have all the chances to bond with him before he died but just... not, and all because she didn't care for nerd stuff.
also, Mabel seriously struggled with guilt after Weirdmageddon on its own. But Ford's suicide made that every bit of worse since she felt that her giving up the Rift to Bill ended up domino affecting everything until it ended at the absolute tragedy that was Ford's suicide. A part of her felt irrationally responsible for Ford's choice to end his life, as if her being upset at Dipper staying and feeling hurt or left out was the only reason Ford's guilt pushed him over the edge and that she should've hidden it better to spare his feelings. That handing over the Rift directly killed her Grunkle. It would take therapy and a visit from a Ford in her dreams to get her out of this mindset.
Ford shot himself in the head for a heartbreaking reason. He devalued his intelligence and mind, believing his intellect was what lost him his family and friends and that he wasn't actually that smart anyway. So he destroyed his mind so permanently and completely with his energy gun to symbolically mirror Stan's sacrifice but guaranteed permanent this time.
watching atots and seeing them as kids would make a world where Ford kills himself in the end feel so much more tragic and bittersweet.
in the same vein as the previous point, time travel shenanigans happening with young kid Stan and Ford travelling forward to see them as sixty something year olds but only seeing Stan around. Eventually kid Stan and Ford would ask about Ford's disappearance and old Stan didn't want to tell them he killed himself since they didn't deserve to be in despair over their future. it slips out anyway.
anyway, that's probably enough and I'm too tired to think of any more things. bye or until I see how undecorated this place was with utter confusion <- sentence written under the influence of sleep deprivation so I'm keeping it for posterity since even now it seems like nonsense. (help me I'm barely awake and rambling about it)
