Hi! I’m Michelle (Mimimar), an illustrator born and raised in Venezuela, currently based in Italy. I enjoy making colorful illustrations that reflect the things I love: fairy tales, fantasy, tenderness and queer (especially sapphic) stories. Occasionally, I also make paper dolls, comics and animatics. I have a lot of interest in book illustration and I’m currently developing my own stories that I hope to share as an author-illustrator someday!

Did you originally have a background in art? If not, how did you start?

I always enjoyed drawing when I was a kid, but it only became a hobby that I did almost every day when I was around 11. At first I only used traditional mediums, but I decided to make a serious effort to learn how to draw digitally when I was 15, and once I got the hang of it I never stopped!

I didn’t go to art school so all of my learning was done through studying the tutorials and resources that other artists generously share on the internet and lots of practice / trial and error.

How do you want to evolve as a creator?

I want to do many things but what I want to do the most right now is work on books! I want to make art for other authors’ stories and also my own stories as an author-illustrator. I want to grow as a storyteller and create art and stories that will really resonate with people emotionally. I’m always striving to improve my skills as well.

I also really love dolls, so working on doll box art or as a doll designer is something I would love to do someday. I actually have been designing paper dolls on my Patreon for the past few months, it’s been a fun project that is still ongoing right now!

What is one habit you find yourself doing a lot as an artist?

Probably using a lot of purple! It’s my favorite color so I find myself using it a lot. If I can find a way to sneak a little bit of purple into an illustration or a character design then I will.

Congratulations on finishing your Ivy Comic! Did the outcome turn out like how you expected or were there some unexpected bumps along the way?

Thank you! It’s a project that I worked on very slowly in between other art because I wanted to really take my time with every spread and make each of them a fully detailed illustration. I thumbnailed the full comic before starting but I kept changing the sketch for the final spread until the very end! Overall I’m really proud of the end result. I sprinkled a lot of hidden details in every page that I hope some of the readers will notice. For example: the meanings of the flowers in each page represent what the characters are feeling in that moment, and the colors of their wardrobe become gradually lighter as the story progresses to represent their emotions, as well as the changing of seasons.

We’ve noticed that you have created some amazing cover art for TGCF. Is there another series you would like to do something similar with? 

That was another passion project that took some time to complete. Initially, I didn’t intend for them to be specifically covers, it was just a series of illustrations based on the 5 books/main arcs of TGCF. But since they were well-received and I had people telling me they wish they could use them as covers for their books, I decided to rework them into dust jackets for the english translation of TGCF!

I haven’t thought of any other specific series but I love doing cover art so maybe I’ll do something similar again in the future!

What’s your favorite part of your style? Why?

I’ve heard from other people that there’s a delicate quality to my art, this is something that I like a lot! I like pretty things, fairytales and vibrant colors. I think all of these things probably reflect in the art I make as well.

If there is one thing you want your audience to remember about your work, what would it be?

I hope that they remember how it made them feel. Feelings and colors are the two things I give priority to in my work. Most of the time I like depicting tenderness, softness and emotional intimacy. If that could reach the viewer and stay with them it would make me very happy. 

I make a lot of art with queer (mainly sapphic) themes because they’re the kind of stories I personally like and want to see more of, so whenever people tell me that my art has helped them in their journey to discover and accept themselves, or that they see themselves and their partner in my art, it is always extremely meaningful to me. When art that I made to give myself comfort can provide comfort for others, no matter how small, it reminds me once again that despite any hardships art is genuinely worth pursuing.

So many artists! To name a few:  I love @sakizo’s amazing eye for fashion and detail,  @paneeps’ gorgeous style and striking colors,  the sweetness of @bevsi’s art,  @vickisigh’s pretty colors and concepts,  @idledee’s warm and heartfelt art,  @littlestpersimmon’s dreamy wonderful art,  and @loish has been an inspiration for as long as I can remember.

Hey hey! You’ve probably been asked this a lot but what made you want to start creating I Don’t Want To Be A Magical Girl?

First of all this is so rad!!! I loooove how you drew her

And what made me want to make I Don't Want to be a Magical Girl... It was a lot of things! (im assuming you mean the pilot in general)

The idea started off as a stupid doodle/character design practice. It wasn't gonna be anything more than that. I just felt like drawing a cute character with a gun really hahaha.

It's not a particularly original premise and I didn't plan to do anything more with her (as I do with most of my ocs/designs). But I actually did really like this one and couldn't help but think of little ideas and scenarios with her. Things started ramping up in my brain more when I realized I could attach a personal story and personal experiences to it to make it feel less cliche. That's when I started designing the other characters and coming up with bios and stuff

And then that was gonna be it again. I'd maybe do a comic here and there but there was a combination of things that happened that led to me jumping in and making a pilot.

First of all, I had a two month hiatus coming up so I had so much time. I also decided to step down from my directors position to be a board artist again in the coming season. So I really wanted to get some storyboarding practice in and what better way to do that than with this character I ended up really liking? I also don't have a portfolio and I'd been wanting to make something that's very me rather than my work from an existing show.

I'd offhandedly mentioned to my editor at disney that I wanted to do a board for these characters and she told me she'd help me make an animatic if it ever came to that. I couldn't pass up that opportunity! Now, since it was gonna be an animatic and I didn't want it to just be my scratch, I reached out to a bunch of VA friends to see if they'd be interested and they were!

Then other than having that support, just seeing my friends work on their own personal projects has been really inspiring and made me want to also do my own thing! Me and my friend group had just made a whole video game for our friend as a bday present which was so creatively fulfilling and made me realize like "oh my god we're artists we can literally just make stuff".

In the past I'd been so afraid to share my original work and for similar fears I've never wanted to showrun despite having the opportunity to pitch. While it's flattering to be wanted there was this pressure that felt like "oh you HAVE to make something, you're wasting your talent otherwise." (lol this is ironically the thesis of idwtbamg). And as a qpoc, i'd felt this extra layer of pressure to have to make something perfect on all fronts because if i fail in any capacity, i'm failing my community. it'd just be another another reason for people to say "ah queer media and work centering poc just can't succeed." then on the other end, i can only do and write what i know and feared that other people in my community wouldn't resonate with it or would feel like it's inaccurate to their own experiences.

but that's an exhausting way to feel and i've finally decided for myself that i'm just gonna tell stories that are authentic to me and it will reach whoever it needs to reach~ this realization was kind of the final step i needed to push myself to go all in. and now we're here!

This song makes me feel so much, I love it a lot! It’s soothing, and makes me feel nostalgic for some reason. It gave me enough inspiration to pick up my pen again and draw something after a MONTH of not posting any animatics… Haha school amiright! Well, anyways, actual yapping time:

This song with them can be interpreted in many different ways, I do love me some vague open to interpretation pieces of art, so a lot can be said. With Jamil and Kalim too it’s the case that they’re so… similar. They’re incredibly different and yet so similar; two sides of the same coin, you might say. Almost anything can be applied to the both for them, and I find that so fascinating. The lines “I’m not waiting for you anymore, but know I loved you, for the last time” can be about both Jamil and Kalim. Jamil (before his character developemnt) for not wanting to wait anymore for Kalim to catch up, not wanting to hold back anymore, not wanting to devote his life to him, but lamenting the fact that once he did care so deeply about him, but no more. He won’t save him anymore, he’ll let Kalim drown, because it’s his own fault he never learned to swim, right? (Metaphorically, I know Kalim can swim!) Or alternatively, Kalim, who has to accept that if he truly wants equality between him and Jamil, he knows Jamil will want some distance between them (at least at first). And after the betrayal in book 4, he has to admit to himself that he did love Jamil, and that now their relationship is much, much more complicated. Or maybe it had always been this complicated but he just realized it now? And yet, when he says that he will love Jamil no more, is he honest to himself? Is he genuine?

Though this is once again a bit of a somber animatic, I want to also share my more optimistic takes on the Scarabia Duo! With book 4 part 9 releasing soon, I can’t wait for more people to read about their character development!! Both have such amazing content, and it really helped them grow as people and better understand eachother. Their relationship is taking slow steps towards becoming healthy again, to them finding out what they mean to eachother and what it means to be equal, to be friends, to love eachother. Their development is so amazing, it consumes my every waking thought!

Ok! The animatic is mostly comedic and very much started out as a shitpost (hence the fact that nobodys clothes are era apropriate etc) , but i did make it with history in mind so heres some history!

the Bulduru conference of 1920 was a conference that lasted from the 6th of august to the 6th of september 1920 in Bulduri (a part of the city of Jūrmala), Latvia. (Latvia was the host which is the reason i'm having Latvia be the main one who talks to ppl through the animatic)

It was a conference between Latvia, Lithuania, Finland, Estonia, Poland and Ukraine (Ukrainian Peoples's Republic) (sort of. Ukraine was either a member or an observer depending on the source.)

The UK and France were observers and Belarus (Belarusian Democratic Republic) was an unofficial observer (again. some sources say they were just an observer and some say they were unofficial).

Belarus and Ukraine at that moment held none of their land.

(Ukraine had lost the Polish-Ukranian war and was losing the Ukranian-Soviet war due to a lot of reasons that I'm not the best person to explian)

(one of them was France favouring Poland - a reason that i am mentioning bcs one of the things that i held in my mind during this whole animatic was the complex relations between the Baltic+Co countries and France and UK. both sides understood very much that they were just using eachother to get what they want. to France and UK these seperatist countries were needed as a shield against the Soviets (but they would have really prefered the Russian Empire to still exist and win the Russian civil war instead) and the Baltic+Co needed the wests guns and resources to win against the Soviets and/or Germans when they were involved.)

(Belarus, from what I can tell, lost all of its land to its Soviet alternative Socialist Soviet Republic of Byelorussia very fast after German troops left its teritory. People who know Belarussian history better than me please correct me if im wrong.)

(also - just in general - if im wrong abt any of this history feel free to correct me. i did do reasearch but all of it was in latvian and english so i can very much be wrong abt things that consern the other nations)

The Bulduru conferences whole deal was creating a Baltic Union between Poland, Finland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.

(the Next part is a bit Edited from the og post bcs i kind of downplayed Polands actions at that time originally)

A goal that was ultimatly hopeless because almost imidietly after the conference (about a month later or so) Poland invaded and anexed Vilnius.

The others tried really hard to be neutral on that - wanting both the Poles and the Lithuanians as allies. (Latvia once asked Estonia to make a Baltic Entente with them and Lithuania (and Finland if they wanted) - to which Estonia declined because they didn't want to get on Polands bad side (also Lithuania was also against the idea bcs their whole plan was trying to befriend the Soviet and German states in the interwar period while Latvia and Estonia saw them as a danger). Later in 1934 a Baltic Entente would still be made - but as history would later tell - it didn't really acomplish much, due to lots and lots of reasons that i wont bore you with atm)

None of the agreements that were signed during the Bulduru conference were ever ratified.

I have very complicated feelings for the Vengeance Saga (after the first listen)

Disclaimer: I will only criticize Epic the Vengeance Saga as a work on its own, not for its inaccuracy or deviation from mythology and The Odyssey. There are more knowledgable people who can point out and analyze the changes in Epic the Musical, but that is not what I'll be tackling here.

To put it bluntly, I'm not being angsty about it as I should. The whole saga just... didn't feel right with me.

Now, first off all, I'm a big fan of Epic and had been following it since the Cyclops saga (first version). I've been in love with many songs and hyperfixed it for months on end. But when the Vengeance saga came along, I didn't feel that same bubbling love rise in me.

Even as a fan, this isn't my first time having peeves with Epic. I didn't jam with the re-release sagas for a while, I'm underwhelmed with the Circe VS Odysseus fight and other issues, very unpopular opinion but "Monster" wasn't too impactful to me, and also the God Games (especially Zeus' attack).

The Vengeance Saga though? Well, they say we gotta do the Bun-Meat-Bun (or whatever the hell its name really is) technique when giving criticism, so I'll start with the good parts.

I love that Odysseus looked so done with Calypso in "Not Sorry For Loving You". They're basically this meme:

Then Odysseus starts singing the reprise for "Full Speed Ahead" but there's no one to back him up. That one hits me hard. To whoever on Tumblr said that after the Thunder Saga we will never hear the crew's back-up again and Odysseus' singing will be answered with silence, Apollo really blessed you with the red ball.

Hermes and the Winions' part was really cool too! I really like them being mischievous helper! The warning about the wind bag and the changing scene of Odysseus fighting off sea monsters while Hermes just vibing with the beats is 👌👌👌

But after that the hype started to sizzle out for me. You might want to skip this part if you're not comfortable with harsh criticism because I WON'T hold back.

It's really backward but I like the Odysseus VS Charybdis draft more than the final production. Charybdis' roars and music are somehow less intimidating, which is a shame because I thought this would be one of the biggest struggles Odysseus will face. Even with awesome illustrative animatics, the scene wasn't as thrilling as I've expected.

The other songs got massive improvement from its draft version (on top of my mind I can think of "Thunder Bringer", "There Are Other Ways", "Little Wolf"), but I don't get why "Charybdis" didn't get up-graded as much like them. It's like a cake that was throughly baked but half decorated and it just didn't taste as good as I've hoped.

Then we have the Odysseus VS Poseidon part in "Get In The Water" and "Six Hundred Strikes". The first thought I had for GITW is this song sounds like all the draft snippets were mashed together without a smooth transition/connection between them. Jorge and Steven's performance is great, but there's not enough tension for me to dread for Odysseus. When Poseidon first met Odysseus in "Ruthlessness", the whole opening was terrifyingly good! And we didn't even have any illustration animatic back then! (that's not to say the GITW animatics were bad, they just can't salvage much when the song itself was already weak)

I wasn't impressed with Poseidon's Shatter The Ocean move either. It's supposed to be the Strongest AttackTM but it's less scary than when he and the Laestrygonians destroyed Odysseus' eleven ships with probably 1% of their power. It didn't even help when Poseidon looked like he's having a seizure with lights pouring out of his eyes and mouth during the transformation.

Odysseus being literally on the brink of death with the souls of his loved ones pulling him into the abyss is a gem in the rough, but because we've seen Odysseus almost drowning before in the end of the Thunder Saga, it's not as shocking as it should be. Furthermore, Poseidon could have instant-killed Odysseus right then and there but didn't really annoyed me. But I guess he just wanted Odysseus to slowly suffer while dying.

Right when I thought the progress will get better, it... gets down. I can go with Odysseus using wind to escape the water, but him wearing it like a jetpack is so comical it ruined the drastic of the situation. And I'm officially let down when Odysseus FUCKING ATTACKED Poseidon in "Six Hundred Strike".

What? Just... why with that choice?

Look, I'm not gonna fault Epic for making creative liberties from the source material (as said in the disclaimer), but I will criticize if that change contradict itself in the transformative work. And this is one of them.

Poseidon and the gods have been proven time and time again in the musical just how powerful they are. Their ominous and grandiose entrances, them striking fear and inferiority in our hearts just by singing. Even Circe, a low-level goddess, poses a constant threat to the crew and Odysseus had to get help from Hermes just to get a chance to corner her (and Hermes even joked that he can still die!)

Poseidon easily destroyed almost all of Odysseus' fleet. Odysseus was very avoidant of him, opting to go to the literal Underworld to find instruction on how to dodge him and sailing through Scylla's lair + willing to sacrifice six men for safe passage. And when Poseidon said he can drown all of Ithaca, it's not just bluffing, he would and could have done that. Yeah, the King of the Sea is THAT BIG of a threat.

So no, Odysseus isn't cool to attack Poseidon, he's being stupid. I'm not even cheering for him the whole time he fight, just groaning at how ridiculous the whole thing is. If Epic is more believable and sticks to WHAT IT HAD ESTABLISHED BEFORE, having a sudden burst of anger and choosing ruthlessness won't save Odysseus from one swipe of Poseidon's trident. Odysseus stood no chance against one of the most powerful deity, even if he's the protagonist and love his family.

Not only that, Poseidon didn't even defend himself and was wounded by a mere human! And he just sat there and took all the blows and insults from Odysseus??? And he actually begged Odysseus to stop and agree to quell the storm to let him get home??? I'm not buy that bullshit. I'm more upset that a literal Olympian god was nerfed down than Odysseus having a Gary Stu moment. Give me a break, that try-hard moment to be cool and edgy just show how badly written the scene is.

What's the fucking point of hyping up how dangerous the gods are if a human can take one down? Tell me this isn't some Wattpad-y Greek myth retelling fanfic where the teenage Y/N sass her way to defeat an entire pantheon. Epic really traded its opportunity to be better for some cheap and out-of-the-blue dramas in this saga, dare I say it's even worse than Zeus' OOC attack on Athena. I'm very disappointed with that decision.

On an end note, the saga did have one saving point with the "After everything you've done, how will you sleep at night?" - "Next to my wife" lines. Odysseus knew he could be the most horrendous man ever and Penelope would still choose his side, that just show how powerful their love and faith in each other are.

But not enough to excuse all the terrible cinematic choices.

Takeaways from the Volume 9 Epilogue:

One thing I really like about Oscar’s ‘If there was anything I wish I could borrow from you…’ monologue is that it laid out/confirmed something I’ve always felt was a major aspect of Oscar’s dynamic with Ruby that I nonetheless feel a lot of the fandom has missed: That Oscar very much sees Ruby as a mentor and an example to follow, and how their dynamic is specifically a foil to what we saw between Ruby and Ozpin. That Ruby acts as a mentor and example to Oscar in the same way Ozpin was to Ruby, and that Ruby is a far BETTER mentor and example to Oscar than Ozpin ever was to her. Which, as an aside, is a dynamic I can’t help but feel a lot of people have been misinterpreting as ‘ship-teasing’ and is one of the main reasons I’ve simply never been able to see Oscar as any kind of viable love-interest to Ruby. Frankly the dynamic of ‘Ruby is the mentor and example to Oscar that Ozpin couldn’t be for her’ is simply so much more INTERESTING than any kind of romance could ever hope to be.

Even in animatic form, Winter basically going overdrive on the maiden powers was a sight to behold. And her own monologue had all the self-deprecation we were expecting. Our girl is clearly holding on by a thread and it’s going to be REAL interesting seeing how she reacts and adjusts to her sister not actually being dead. As in, I can imagine a situation where Winter tries to throw herself into a heroic sacrifice with the belief that Weiss would make a better Maiden than her.

Also, Winter’s monologue giving major focus to how Penny is super-super-dead-dead-and-definitely-not-coming-back-for-really-realsies, as she is talking to the sister who she ALSO believes is DEFINITELY also dead? Specifically with the words that Penny is gone, when Penny’s last words to her were that she’d be ‘part of you’?

Yeah, there is no way in hell we’ve seen the last of Penny XD

The CROWN. Like it was only a few shots, but as someone who read the CFVY Books (which you totally should if you haven’t, they’re great), holy shit I was NOT expecting them to pop up here.

I mean, in hindsight it makes perfect sense that they’d be involved in Volume 10. They’re basically Vacuo’s equivalent to Vale’s criminal element and the White Fang splinter faction as Salem’s co-opted insurgency group, with Jax and Gillian joining Roman, Adam and Jacques as the latest of Salem’s unwitting patsies. It’s definitely going to be real interesting seeing the crew deal with them. Like it’s really fun to imagine Team RWBY in particular being kind of exasperated at seeing Jax’s probably doing a whole ‘With Salem’s help I shall be King!’ shtick after everything they’ve seen with Roman, Adam and Jacques.

Oh and if you don’t know, Jax has a mind-control semblance, so him trying to use that on Yang could actually lead to a sneaky callback to the Justice League crossover, ie; Yang doing a ‘Yeah, I’m not doing THAT shit again.’ XD

Qrow’s whole vibe through this is fascinating. Like his section may have been the one we already saw, but after seeing the abject depression and growing despair of all the other characters, Qrow actually being OPTIMISTIC hit so much harder.

Raven showing up at the end is… interesting.

I’ll admit that ever since we saw that specific clip a few months back, I’ve been rather conflicts about Raven showing up to deliver RWBY+J to Vacuo, particularly after Ruby’s tree vision. Like for one it felt a bit random and unnecessary. The tree already deposited the Ever After team outside of Vacuo so they didn’t exactly need help getting there. Not to mention that it kind of clotheslines the story-thread set up by Ruby’s vision; that she now has a reason to track Raven down to get the ANSWERS to what happened to Summer. Finally, it’s just kind of… random? Like where did Raven even come from to get the team?

But now having seen the clip with its intended context, I’m definitely more on board with it. Particularly hearing from Kerry and Eddy that the original ending for the penultimate episode had RWBY+J going through the portal to arrive at their memorial stone, and met by a ‘Mysterious Figure’, ie; Raven. Here it feels like were getting more set up to get answers later as to what Raven was doing at the memorial.

And really, now that I’ve thought about it more, this method kind of puts the thread of Ruby going to Raven for answers even MORE into focus. Like the story reintroduces Raven in the present right after Ruby got a vision basically saying ‘hey, Raven is important’. And now going into Volume 10, we’re pretty much perfectly positioned for Ruby to pull Raven aside for those all-important ‘Why were you fucking my mom? What happened to my mom?’ questions.

Finally… yeah that ending hit me a LOT harder than I was expecting. Like that ending was HOPE in its purest form and it was honestly beautiful to see. Particularly right now with the future of the show seeming so uncertain. I’ve personally been optimistic about RWBY’s future (in a manner not unlike Qrow’s vibes I suppose lol), but damn the hopefulness of that ending hit especially hard, and was something I’ll admit I needed. And I imagine the rest of us could use as well.

We'll be getting Volume 10. And 11, and 12, and however many more it takes to finish this story. At this point, I have no doubt of that.

Stupid fucking kids, chucking rocks at cats like it was some great achievement of their strength. Like picking on an animal so much smaller than them made them any bigger.

Thomas hated kids.

It'd be one thing if it was just the rocks- he could shift to human shape and give them a good scare- but did they have to throw him in the fountain too?

That seemed like overkill.

Well- literally, actually.

Ugh.

He sees one of the snot-nosed brats winding up again, right as he gets his paws on the stupid ledge of the stupid fountain, and closes his eyes. Braces himself.

For the inevitable splash back into cold water and the inevitable burn in his nose.

The inevitable pain.

Stupid. Fucking. Kids.

When he gets back in human form, he's going to terrorize the shit out of these-

...it never comes.

What?

Thomas hears the rock hit something wooden, like a plank almost? But that's bizarre because Port Townsend is mostly stone.

The kids were pelting him just fine two seconds ago, their aim can't have gotten that bad. Seriously- Thomas wasn't even three yards away from them!

Could it?

His eyes are still closed, so what does he know, actually? He's just a drenched cat.

The rocks whistle through the air again, with the added occasional ker-thunk on wood. But not of them hit him again. Distantly, because it's suddenly so hard hold on to anything, Thomas thinks he hears the stupid brats screeching and scrambling away.

His paws slip off wet stone.

This time though, he doesn't think he can wrestle himself back to the surface.

Really.. what a waste.

Just two months after being literally beaten to death, and now.. ugh.

Some Cat King Thomas turned out to be.

His small body hits the bottom of the fountain, cold cold cold, and he waits for the burning in his chest to stop- for his form to finally give up so he can move on to his next life already.

He's so tired.

But that never comes either.

No, two gloved hands tuck themselves under his limp head and flank and tug him above the surface with a sort of frantic energy and care he's not sure he deserves. For a brief moment, Thomas hopes it's Edwin.

But- no. He doesn't deserve that either, and Edwin's hands are thin and bony and steady, even under his gloves. These hands are slender, yes, but they're sturdy. Shaky.

"Oi, cat. Hey-" and that is not Edwin's voice.

...no.

No.

It can't be- it better fucking not be-

Thomas finds himself tucked properly in the crook of a jacketed arm, being lightly rocked into consciousness. Well- no, he never lost consciousness.

But this ghost [who better not be who he thinks it is] doesn't know that.

He's set gently [so so gently] back onto the ledge of the fountain, steadied by that gloved hand on his rib. But only for a second before he's swaddled in something warm.

Warm might not be the right word actually, considering a ghost's lack of body heat. It is soft though.

And humiliating.

Although so is nearly drowning because of a bunch of ninth graders so who cares at this point.

"Guess bullies never change, eh? If it's not their mates it's the bloody street cats." the ghost is muttering, almost completely to himself really, as he rocks Thomas carefully.

Carefully.

Wow.

What a day.

He thinks he's almost got enough energy rubbed back into him to crack his eyes open- show this overprotective dog who he's been helping- and make a break for it.

Because surely things will get very ugly for Thomas again once Charles figures him out.

He's not stupid.

"Come on, cat, do something already. I can't tell if I'm actually helping you right now, now can I? Don't even have to open your eyes if you don't want to. Just give me some kind of sign you haven't bitten it yet."

And that makes sense.

Except it doesn't really, because as far as he could tell, this one didn't like cats at all. Even less so after his own stunt with his 'best mate.'

So why..

Why did he sound so scared?

"I don't think I could take it if we died the same way. Even if you are a cat."

Oh.

Oh.

Oh no.

No no no no no, that is too many feelings.

Thomas opens his eyes immediately- though instantly makes a displeased hiss too. Because fuck, that sun was too bright. Ugh.

Still- he lashes out with his claws before Charles can hit first, twisting and scrambling his way out of the thick [soft, soft, soft] coat. Of course, of course, he doesn't get far. The ghost yelps as his claws tear through his arm, but he doesn't let go.

No, the fucker just holds him under the armpits at his arm's length.

Wonderful.

Goodbye. fourth life. You had a good run.

Not.

"There you are!"

What.

Thomas' tail flicks, barely. [everything is sore]

And it is Charles that- that- no. He's not going to say it. No.

NO.

Pulled him from the fountain. And that's all the Cat King is going to admit to. That and scaring off those snot-nosed brats. But nothing more.

..saved him.

No.

His bare arm is weeping a sort of blue mist, smog, thing between the cuff of his glove and bend of his elbow where his claws landed. Three long jagged things that Edwin is going to skin him for-

Most curiously though, and goddamnit he CANNOT lose another life, Charles doesn't even seem to mind. No, he's practically beaming at Thomas' show of amazing self-defense.

There is no possible way he knows he's talking to the Cat King.

None at all.

"Gave me a proper scare for a second there, mate," the ghost says to him, stupid stupidly stupid oblivious, "You alright?"

And obviously he's expecting a verbal response, even as he sets Thomas on his lap and picks up his coat to towel him off. It's still gentle, even as he bats at the kid's hands.

Claws out, mind you.

"Ow- I'm trying to help you here, wanker. I don't think you want strut around sopping wet, do you?"

He'd prefer it to this!

"Am I being too rough? I know a few of those rocks got you before I could scare the blokes off."

He's not going to answer.

No way.

Because he's not being rough in any sense of the word, not even where he's cupping his cat form's soft neck, and Thomas doesn't know how to handle it.

So he's not going to say anything until this dog realizes who he is.

"I'm sorry," if possible, his touches get even gentler.

Thomas stops clawing at him, then, with an irritated murr deep in his chest- lets him help- as something unpleasant sticks out to him.

The Cat King's kingdom is not meant to house unpleasantness.

"If it's not their mates it's the bloody street cats." "I don't think I could take it if we died the same way."

It's not the same situation at all, he can't help but think, now that he's got a pretty picture- a first hand experience nearly- of how this dog became a ghost in the first place.

"...their mates..."

Thomas digs his claws into Charles' leg.

"OW- I thought we were getting along!"

He's had enough of this fake care, greedy for affection as he is.

"There's a difference between 'getting along' and one-sided conversation."

Thomas slinks off the dead boy's lap as his hands still and changes shape with a puff of purple fire. Hm.. weaker than usual, but... stronger than he expected.

Ugh.

For some reason, he's taken the stupid dog's coat with him- draped over his arm like it was something fancy.

Huh.. nice patches, actually. Painfully British though.

Whatever, when Charles inevitably attacks he can use it as a distraction. Throw it in his face and take off while he's floundering in the same material he had.. that he'd-

Ugh.

Thomas almost thinks he's said that last bit out loud, but- again- no. It's just the ghost boy being dramatic.

"You," it sounds accusatory, as he throws himself to his feet, "Why is it always you?"

Rude.

He's delightful, thank you.

Ah, if only a certain British tease thought so..

The fabric in his arm gets tugged at, and when Thomas looks down it's because Charles has got his hand wrapped up in it.

"...give it, yeah?" he says, voice dolefully confused, "Can't exactly get another one, now can I? It's custom."

..well there goes the distraction.

Thomas lets go of the coat with the same energy he would expend on a scratch post.

Now how is going to get away? Woe as he is to admit it, he's not at top strength right now. Not nearly, actually, after being so close to drowning.

And this kid bludgeoned the Night Nurse.

Hm.

"So what? You were just pretending then?"

The Cat King rubs his temples, thoroughly over this entire interaction.

"Yes," he drawls, making sure to put every ounce of possible condescension into the word, "Because pretending to drown is so much fun."

"I don't think I could take it if we died the same way."

...he really hopes this one understands sarcasm.

"Well don't get pissy, Whiskers," thank god, "Just didn't think 'the Cat King' would be getting himself knocked about like that."

"And I didn't think Edwin's guard dog would be going around saving cats. But here we are."

"Oi! Keep his name out of your mouth. You've already caused him enough trouble as is."

And yet, he doesn't deny the guard dog bit...

Thomas starts in the opposite direction.

"Wh- well, wait a second!"

He walks faster.

Frankly, the Cat King doesn't want to deal with this... weirdly friendly version of Charles. No wait, friendly's not the right word. Less violent? Angry? Eager to knock his face in?

Eh, he hadn't exactly brought up any of his friends though did he? Maybe that's why.

"If it's not their mates it's the bloody street cats."

Or maybe he just felt sorry.

A gloved hand catches his elbow.

Thomas whirls around, fingers igniting in a weak fury of purple fire upon a face with perpetually water smudged eyeliner. He doesn't even look scared.

"You care too much about what Edwin thinks to go through with it."

"Fuck off."

He hates this ghost. Maybe more than he hates kids actually.

"Look- just.. are you alright?"

Is he what?

"Don't give me that look," Charles bristles, letting go of the Cat King's arm to waffle dismissively at him, "I know you heard me earlier."

"I don't think I could take it if we died the same way." "...if we died the same way." "..the same way." "...same.."

The sentence echoes in his head like a taunt.

"I didn't drown, admittedly, but I reckon we got the soaking cold and rocks thing in common."

Thomas just blinks at him, inexplicably torn between incredulity and anger. What the fuck, what the actual fuck is wrong with this boy. The answer has to be interesting.

Might as well humor him.. make him go away faster.

As if greatly troubled by this admittedly easy decision, the Cat King heaves a deep sigh.

"I'm fine."

An idea curls in his mind, sharp-toothed and tricky.

"No chest pain?"

"No."

"You're not sleepy?"

"No."

Cute way to phrase it though.

"No shivers, mumbles?"

"Do I look or sound like any of the above?"

God he hopes not. That'd be embarrassing.

It takes Thomas a stupid amount of time to realize that Charles is probably listing off his own symptoms. The same ones his shiny ghost form can't totally hide.

Now or never.

The Cat King's hand darts out to brush over the dog's mouth diagonally, leaving him startled and with a pretty gold streak complimenting his tanned skin and shiny jewelry.

"Tell me why you reeeally want to know." Curiosity killed the cat, alright, he's accepted it. Fifth life here he comes.

Words tumble out of Charles' mouth faster than he can process them: "I don't want anyone to feel like that if I can help it."

He looks startled at himself as he says it, which- fair. Truth spells rarely don't surprise the castee. But then his expression turns exasperated.

"Wanker, I would've told you that anyway."

Thomas swipes his finger the opposite direction to remove the spell- far too disturbed to want to hear the truth anymore. This kid should really lie more, it might do him some good.

"Does your boyfriend know you're galivanting about Port Townsend without him?"

Because he would've known if Edwin were actually here... he's got several pairs of eyes keeping a lookout. Allegedly.

Though, the strangest blush colors the dead boy's face at his word choice. Interesting..

"He does," wait, "But I was supposed to be back by now.. I'm here for Monty, actually, have you seen him around?"

The Cat King is not feeling very satisfied, actually.

What.

They're dating now? Well.. good for them. About time or whatever non-jealous people say. Or think. Whatever. He's not jealous, at all, so it doesn't matter.

"Why are you looking for that clump of feathers?" perfect vocal inclination.

"Don't call him that," well that's surprising, "Edwin's got a spell set up- to turn him back uh.. human shaped. You know?"

That is... interesting, actually. But not surprising considering Edwin's skillset. What is interesting is:

"And you're okay with that?"

Charles was protective to a fault, after all.. and while endearing if you were on the receiving end, if... well. The Night Nurse can explain better than him.

"It was my idea."

What.

"Where did Edwin find you?"

"Dying in an attic, would you believe it?" the dog replies, his grin too sunny for his words.

Roguefort Time-loop AU? yeah

This one is kind of still cooking but I figured that sharing it would help me rearrange my thoughts a bit, maybe motivate me a bit.

Explanation under cut

It started because I was talking with a friend about Almondfort like any other day. Like, the one drawing I did some...weeks? ago with Roguefort going "I don't think we are meant to fall for each other, detective", that one, I wanted to do a angsty story for a change and I don't remember which one of us brought up Will Stetson's cover of Phony (I think it was my friend, if you haven't heart it go listen to it rn), that is the one from where the lyrics of the two last drawings come from. It evolved from there. Actually I have like, a full animatic in my head that I am so willing to make a storyboard for but POOUGHHHUJSKUAH I loose my motivation for this too easily haha

The basic points of this AU are simple: Roguefort is trying to get back their heirloom watch, fails, is sent back six months before the attempt to try again, and so it repeats until they manage to get the time-watch back. I actually have... aprox. one quarter of a oneshot related to this done? I hope I can finish it!

@pomiidorii and I stayed up to watch the live, and it was SO much fun. I laughed so hard at the joystick infant, on Polyphemus with Luke being the Cyclops, Luck runs out with the macarena and the face slap, No longer you when Mason just decided to randomly dance with Jorge, or when Talya and Jay swapped roles during their songs. When they brought the ghost of Polites it was a great idea too, and LOL when Jay pointed at Luke during God Games for Zeus cheating on his wife, and his face completely dropped LMAO

But about the Ithaca Saga, I managed to not cry during it but it was really hard, considering the topics of families reuniting (or positive family dynamics) is one of the very few things that make me emotional. (Don't be fooled, I've cried after the live when I listened to the two last songs again...)

What I didn't expect was the vocals of Ayron in Hold them down, that was AMAZING. I fully thought I'd be skipping that song because I personally cannot handle the topic of SA very well in media, but the song itself was so good that I completely detached the meaning and now cannot stop singing it. During the animatic however, it was really hard to watch the part where Antinous sang about Penelope, it was truly sickening.

Odysseus was SO GOOD my jaw completely DROPPED. I LOVE when characters go completely apeshit after being wronged and (rightfully) take revenge (coming from an Ares devotee, this isn't that surprising). The appearance of Telemachus as the new Warrior of the mind?! And the way Ody just straight up refused to listen to any of the suitors, with his little sassy "No 🫶", I was SOLD.

Do NOT let me start about Anna completely SERVING vocals in The Challenge and Would you fall in love with me again, OH. MY. GOD. Her voice is such a beautiful mix of powerful and delicate, I don't get how she's doing it! And the part when Pen and Ody embrace and Just a man starts playing?? ARGHH!! Such an amazing use of literacy, Jorge has outdone himself.

Another little thing, the switch from Ody growling at the suitors and the second his boy asks for him, his voice softens to answer. STOP THIS MADNESS JORGE!! And when Mico and Jay hugged?? Oh my heart...

The interlude of Steven saying he couldn't come to Ithaca because of the beating he got LMAO and the singing in the shower LOL Neal Illustrator already made a great animatic with that part!

I cannot believe that EPIC is done now, it feels so weird. I remember randomly finding Jorge with the blue eye filter on TikTok and thinking, who is this weirdo? And immediately skipping him LMAO I had no idea that weirdo would come back months later with a full musical that I'd love so much! All in all, it was a great experience, even though I joined only around a month before the Vengeance Saga.

It’s this time of the year again, folks. Time to wrap up the art Ive made in the last 12 months in another Year in Review! I’ve noticed that this is my fifth Year in Review in a row, so I’ll be making an extra post looking back on the progress in those last 5 years!

I've got a lot to say about this year, but purely art wise, I've gone all when it comes to comics, damn! I've kinda found a format that is messy, and therefore more time efficient, yet still looks good. I even made 2 animatics and lotsa shorts/reels! All that on top of opening coms twice, and, oh yeah, MAKING A WHOLE ASS 4MIN ANIMATION ON MY OWN.

How is my hand still alive.

2023 has been….interesting, to say the least. The first half year I was working on my thesis project, aka making an animated short all on my own (in the art department), which makes it honestly surprising how much I managed to churn out between animating. Trigun rly did have me in a choke hold.

Summer was a bit more spotty, esp. with me not being able to draw anything during August as I was writing my thesis (and doing commissions). And towards the end of the year, Kingdom Hearts tried to save me, but alas, Genshin Impact has finally sunk its teeth into me and dragged me to the bottom of the rabbit hole. It all started with me watching a story summary and lore videos while I was sick after my thesis and I was too intrigued to not dig deeper and well, first I fell in love with Kaeya and then the ships started dropping in left and right.

I’m not gonna lie, the last few months have been weird. I finished my masters in October, and have been on job hunt since, sadly without success so far. I’m existing in this weird limbo of still not grasping I’m not a student anymore after 18 years in education, not really being able to accept I’m an adult, yet desperately trying to find something so I can make a routine, cos rn Im too scared to build a rhythm as I know I’ll have a so much harder time readjusting again. It’s left me in a weird emotional state, where most of the time I feel fine, but when it counts, there’s just, nothing. No joy at getting my diploma, no anticipation to finally go to a convention again, neither any sadness hearing my grandfather died. It frustrates me that it extends to my art as well, there’s excitement over ideas and concepts, but no motivation to pick up the pencil, which makes me either not finish art at all or making so many shortcuts and just ending up with sth not satisfactory to me since it’s not the idea I sought after.

Tho, not everything is doom and gloom. I DID finish a whole ass short animation and got my masters degree, that IS sth to be proud of. Also, while Im struggling at drawing, I’ve also kinda started integrating my shortcuts into my style and some stuff I’ve thrown together actually turns out real good nowadays. Also, and this might be a bit of a weird one, I’m so fucking happy to know I can still enjoy gay ships. I’ve been a bit uncertain over the last few years because when I was around 16-18, I had a real big yaoi phase, which mostly came from the fact so much stuff came out that tickled my brain in the right way (Free, Haikyuu, etc.). But over the years, my enthusiasm died down, and I even started to resent some ships because it’s all some fandoms produced. I often found myself liking a hetero ship more than the popular gay ship, which really made me not wanna stick around because I did not care for most fanart and you can only go through a tag with art you don’t care about so long before you lose interest. I think in retrospect that it rly had nothing to do with the ships being gay ships but rather cos the fans just shoved it in your face when you didn’t care (and shipping culture nowadays also can get real scary). But I’m so happy to see I can still get obsessed with a ship and it’s all thanks to Haikaveh/Kavetham. It really just needed the right flavour for me to dig in again. And oh my god, I FINALLY like a ship with a SHIT TON of art and fanfictions, no more scrounging the crumbs from the bottom of the barrel. 

Anyways, enough lamenting. Here’s to hoping I can bite my tongue and get shit started properly in 2024, and that my brainrots may make me obsessed enough to churn out an obscene amount of fanart again.

Hiii Dinooo!

I just wanted to throw this out there and ask how you regain motivation for most of your comics, and are there any tips for people who are trying to start their own?

so for motivation that's a bit more difficult, since its very much different with different people! What i can suggest is- i guess not to as much as i do HELP I've learned that I'm a freak of nature, and that normal people don't finish 20 comic pages in a day I usually just let motivation make me work on pages, instead of forcing myself to work (which is why i- again can get 20 pages done in a day to not working for months), but erm! that's just how I work, and I don't think I'd recommend working like that for everyone! What I sometimes do for motivation though- is making a spotify playlist with my characters and listening to it (especially the ones I have animatic ideas for, as I like imagining how they would play out while I draw) You can also do things like OC activities (like the OCtober thing I've been (not) doing), or getting commed/traded art of the characters, as I also just like going through my own character's toyhouse galleries sometimes! I also like drawing lots. of lyric art

And for tips on comics, I do have a few! -Do not. for the love of all things make pages complex. I'm begging. (Unless ur crazy or smth) -I would recommend especially at the beginning of your comic, to make it as simple as you can! If you're a good way in, it might be a better time to add more detail (this goes for character design too. if they're complex, make a simple version please. HELP) -Reread your script over at least once! Better if it's like the day after, so you can make sure it's what you want -Write a super quick outline, with a summary of each chapter or event, so that you don't forget anything

-If you're going to upload publicly, I'd recommend a schedule! If you just post them whenever, you might end up with months of nothing -With schedules, I'd recommend having about a month of backlog in case you need a break! -Don't make your schedule too much!!! Just make it maybe like a page a week while you get used to it, or even every other week! You're not going to like your comic if you're always tired of working on it

Remember that this is all just how I do things! If something else works for you, than do that instead!

LAIKA Picture-In-Picture (Blu-Ray Exclusive)

Before we get to the good stuff, we’ve got a little history lesson for ya! In the late 2000’s-early 2010’s, Some Blu-Rays, often those made by Universal, had a feature called “U-Control”, which allowed the user to enable various exclusive additional commentary and behind-the-scenes videos alongside the film as it was playing. Close as my own shelf, But intangible.

And after 6 MONTHS… I was FINALLY able to acquire a viable method of ripping these. (That being… an HDMI Capture Card.) After recording, I trimmed down the parts I deemed obsolete, And finally, uploaded them to Archive.org!

For the first time in 12-15 YEARS, The LAIKA Picture-In-Picture tracks are widely accessible to the public!

DISCLAIMER: Neil Gaiman appears in both Coraline picture-in-picture tracks, if you do not wish to see him, select the files labeled “CENSORED”, where I have done my best to remove any instance where he appears or speaks. Or at the very least, blot out his face. ONE MORE THING… Even though Universal has made other LAIKA Blu-Rays besides these two, neither of them have Picture-In-Picture tracks. My disappointment is immeasurable.

I know to some people it’s become a little bit of a joke now like “oop the French have been forgotten again nothing new” in terms of the times of events and not really caring if many or even any of the French ccs are available to be present for things but seeing that Quackity’s stream last night had subtitles for every language involved in the QSMP but French is a bit disheartening. I understand that the stream was late for Europeans and maybe he just didn’t expect many French speakers to be watching a stream that started at like 3am for them but it would’ve been nice for it to placed there just out of courtesy or for vod watchers. I know Quackity would never do something to purposefully alienate his French audience or the French part of the QSMP fandom it was probably just a genuine mistake/oversight on his part but after months of stuff like this happening it is tiring. Like there was no clips of any of the French speaking cc in the compilation they used at the election night dinner, barely any animatics of them in the first movie night, people on Twitter had to tag the QSMP accounts in art of the French and tweets they made practically begging for more art by the French community of the French speaking ccs to be added, Etoiles and Baghera both spoke about wishing there were clips of them in the election dinner compilation and movie night (about how they promise they’re funny and interesting which is sad that they even felt like they had to prove that they deserved to be included) Not to mention to countless events they either had to miss or stay up until 3am so they could be included. They all spoke about how they were genuinely upset/frustrated at missing out. That’s not even getting into the fandom issues I see all of the time such as the ccs just constantly being treated like their stories and lore is lesser and just a side story to their faves “main plot” idk it’s just disheartening I guess. I’m hoping things get better moving forward 🫶🏻

I NEED COMMISSIONS AND DONATIONS!

Hey all, need to get some more money this month for rent and loans. My next paycheck is going to come too late, so I need at least $400 to make it to next month. My commissions are open as ever, and I am still offering the 2 for 1 deal, where you can request a commission of equal or lesser value to go along with the first at no edition cost.

A brief rundown of my prices: All pieces start with a line art cost, and color , shading/effects, and lineless options are add-on costs. Head/Busts start at $20, Half Body at $40 and Full Body at $60. Backgrounds start at $20 as either their own piece or an add-on. There are multiple character options, just 2 character commission sheets are up at the moment, but I am willing to workshop a pricing scale for multiple characters in one piece if so requested.

I am also going to be opening up a commission slot for animation, just gifs at first, but I will expand that to animatics and full videos later.

I do original character/work and fanart commissions! I am currently quite fond of doing Psychonauts, Code Lyoko, Gravity Falls, FNAF, and Hollow Knight fanart, and many, many more.
