Okay, so, I was inspired to write not you, not now by reading she walks in beauty series by @mayfriend which is THE Tomarrymort Soulmate fic with Female Harry. It's one of the sacred texts.

I think you need to read she walks in beauty to understand not you, not now better because as I said, it's inspired by she walks in beauty and I treat it as my love letter to that series and it references events in she walks in beauty. In fact, the title of "not you, not now" came to me when I was thinking of how she walks in beauty Harry would react to the graveyard. The "not you, not now" is exactly Harry's thought process in the graveyard, and it spans throughout nynn, following the theme how Harry is not ready to meet Voldemort, little less be with him as a soulmate. He is the "you" in the fic's title, title given by Harry.

It was supposed to be a graveyard one-shot but then I shot myself in the foot and wrote more.... And more.... And more... And more...

And here we are, 2 years later, on Chapter 46 😅

hello and welcome to fic rec friday! where, on friday, i rec five of my favourite fics.

look i know i talked about zenstrike last week and im here to do it again. i know what the secret relationship trope is, i know there are so many great fics but like. zenstrike reaches something in my chest and fucking twists it. i read something of theirs for the first time like two years ago and i remember being actually fucking struck dumb on my bed and clutching my phone because the way my stomach churned and my heart pounded and i well and truly FELT every fucking emotion!! when keith nervously pressed his palm to the junction of lance's neck and his breath sharpened mine did too!! when the swirling dread of fear and nerves turned in lances belly it turned in mine too!! idk what it is about zenstrike but they have touched me in a way no other author ever has in my whole life and i cant always read everything they write in one sitting, sometimes im consuming it all in a frenzy and sometimes one fic takes me days. anyway keith loving lance with every goddamn molecule but being physically unable to say it but determined to show it will always make me insane sorry for the goddamn essay

this fic makes me CRY with laughter bc why are they fake dating to hide that they're real dating on a god damned assassination mission 😭😭 they're actually so goddamn stupid

He drags a hand down his face, maybe he needs something stronger than whiskey. Ketamine maybe. “Best friend actually,” he squints through his fingers, glaring darkly, “not that it’s anyone’s business.” Or the author overuses em-dashes while trying to make Keith talk about his damn feelings! OR ace Lance has to deal with a smitten Keith and just wants to watch disney

okay well, im obviously biased, and i love my own fics, the end.

but, if you don't want to read my nonsense, here are some of my favs:

-the son and heir of nothing in particular by @steelycunt (aeridi0nis on AO3) as well as on the issue of fever and delight and in lieu of beaujolais.

as you can see, i'm particularly fond of their writing and despite loving to be mean to Sirius (in the best sort of way, he is our barbie doll that gets chewed on sometimes, shaken like a rag doll), always do a phenomenal job of capturing his demons and the vibe. there's a particular line in OTIOFAD where sirius is there trying to apologize, and he, like, can't figure out how to slouch enough to do so, and it just hits right where it should. yes.

-the shape and sound of god by @dykefever (dykesiriusblack on AO3).

this is a fleabag AU, and Sirius is the star of the show. I am in love with this sad, sad, depiction of him. What I love a lot about sirius is how raw he is, like literally an open wound walking around and he pulls people into it, but he's always honest about that too. and is just like trying trying trying to be better, but the wound is just festering and. this. also, if you're in the mood for more dykefever, i highly recommend (in my room) i want you here

OKAY LOOK I HAD TO COME BACK AND EDIT THIS POST. so fair warning (and i told tumblr user heartofspells this when i was reading as well), i had to do some skimming with some of the subject matter in this fic. BUT that does not erase the fact i LOVED this sirius. i loved how sweet he was with harry. i loved his humor. i loved his arrogance and forced vulnerability. I binged this and then went straight to the authors DM's to scream so. yeah. whoops.

when fics on ao3 have 500K+ words and less than 30k hits, you know theyre seriously fucking underrated. this fic is my new post-FF8 canon man.

it goes into crazy depth on seifer’s trauma and his subsequent healing journey after running into squall 2 years post-war. pretty graphic violent imagery, heavy heavy angst, does discuss non-con and sexual assault (not between sxs), but main pairing is characterised so realistically. seifer starts off a hedonistic playboy who really needs therapy but he’s down bad for squall the second squall walks back into his life. they both change for the better!! they both make each other want to be better!!!!!!!! god i love reading relationships with huge fuckin growth

this fic will make u question everything about canon with how realistic the worldbuilding is😭😭it’s the longest sxs fic on AO3 😭😭 but it’s so worth the read.

last updated in 2023, so i’m crossing my fingers the fic isnt discontinued. authors posted some works in summer 2024…hopefully they’re still writing! this fic is my newest roman empire – i really hope it’ll be finished one day so i can download it and keep it forever to reread and reanalyze and cherish.
