He didn’t know it would be the boy he grew up in the circus with they want him to murder in cold blood. He didn’t know— didn’t recognize him until the knife was already at his throat.

But he remembers now. And he won’t do it. Never. Never.

He’ll run. Disappear. Dick doesn’t know who he is, it’s better that way, and if he’s lucky the Court will be too busy hunting him to care about the failed assassination.

Unfortunately for Calvin, Dick does remember; Recognizes the Talon.

And he’s not inclined to let his childhood best friend slip through his fingers again after years of believing him dead.

sleep deprived dust can't recognize what's dream and what's real when he goes in and out of consciousness so i think dust is allowed to be incredibly reckless when he's awake but thinks he's in a dream. he will kill whoever passes by him (or attempt to. for him it's an instict to shoot bones anyways.) he will drink 4 bottles of alcohol just because he thinks its just a lucid dream. have incredibly loud conversations with phantom paps because he's asleep so nobody will hear him talk. or just have loud ass breakdowns because again he thinks he's asleep!!! nobody's gonna know what he gets up to in his dreams. and until someone (probably phantom paps) tells him that he's not asleep and this is reality he won't realize until he's done something really reckless

horror is seconds away from exploding dust's skull open with his magic while dust is trying to strangle him and FINALLY phantom paps tells him he's awake and dust snaps out of it. killer is walking around the house with bones sticking out of him like pins on a sewing pattern (casually too. another day in the life for him) and he just asks dust what that was about. dust just gets off of horror and shrugs his shoulders with an idk. and then walks away. this is the 6th time its happened this month

I think the description of Benson and Randy's relationship as "parasocial" is quite apt. Benson says "I've been watching you, and I know for a fact..." He posits that Randy is not like anyone else in their small shitty town, that there's something uniquely 'fixable' about him. It's something that Benson stakes most of his motivation on throughout the movie 'it was the only thing I believed' and in some ways this is reflected in Randy as truth, but sometimes the character traits Benson projects onto Randy just fall short of reality. Randy says that his mom held him back a grade and Benson paints the picture of a domineering authority figure that Randy must rebel against, And clearly believes this is the case based on the tenacity with which he listens to--and disapproves of-- Randy's conversation with his mother on the phone. However listening to the conversation is just dull. His mom does come across as over bearing, pointing out the number of rings it took him to pick up, but she's otherwise normal compared to the image Benson seems to have of her. Same with Lisa. Benson strolled into the mall with Randy as though a great revelation was to be made, like Lisa was this monumental event in Randy's life, but Randy and Lisa's relationship was underwhelming. They were briefly dating in highschool and they broke it off rather amicably because Randy was not an emotionally fulfilling partner to Lisa. Randy claims not to know why Lisa broke up with him, and to Benson this is an injustice, but in reality it's just Randy being a little obtuse and naive about Lisa's emotional needs. Lisa could've been more transparent about why the relationship ended but they were kids, and she took the path of little resistance, likely in an attempt to spare Randy's feelings. There's nothing unique or life-altering about Lisa and Randy. Benson seems to project this false narrative onto Randy--and the rest of the world, tbh-- that is further highlighted by Marsha's character, who is another NPC that Benson decides to codify within his world view. Marsha once again deviates from the role Benson believes she fits in, standing up to him and rebelling against the notion that all other people in this town are aimless and complacent. Part of me wondered, after they went to Beard's house, why Randy's 'transformation' felt flat for me, and part of it is because the journey Randy takes is somewhat belied by the fact that Benson did not do any of that for Randy. Not any real version of Randy, anyway. Benson did it for a made up version of Randy in his head and he went along with it because there was a gun at his back.

Season two's overall treatment of Caleb, and the last minute addition of how much he covets honesty, makes me wonder what an actual antagonist/villain Caleb would play out like.

Because an honest antagonist sounds like such a fun deviation from the norm. You very rarely see a villain who doesn't have to lie/cheat/manipulate their way through their respective plots, so having a guy who's so dead set on honouring his moral code to the point that it's detrimental to his relationships (and also potentially his place in the competition) would be a fun alley of thought to go down.

At the end of the day, the only thing that differentiates a total drama 'antagonist' from any other competitor is their ability to generate conflict and have others eliminated. Caleb's already shown a penchant for conflict generation through his poor communication skills (Priyaleb miscommunication plot, pretty much every interaction he has in s2e11) and tendency to prioritise his place in the competition (the deal he makes with Julia in s2e10), so it wouldn't be too hard for him to turn the tables on someone and have them eliminated.

I'm thinking something along the lines of him sparking a rivalry between himself and someone like Julia, then having them wager their votes/safety on a challenge or bet, which ultimately leads to the other being voted out without Caleb having to do anything dishonest or underhanded. Sticking by his deep-rooted morality whilst also tilting the game in his favour.

Because I think an antagonist who's threatening just by value of being good at the game is a lot scarier than someone who succeeds through trickery and subterfuge. He's playing by the rules, he's just playing better.

For the past week or so, Ryanne has been feeling… Off. Like there’s a string inside of her that’s being wound tighter and tighter. Like her skin doesn't fit her body. Like her joints are stiff and she’s primed for a fight.

She knows why. How could she not be affected after Ace betrayed her? Someone she thought was her friend, her family. It stung far more than she’s letting on. 

Luckily she’s had practice all her life at keeping her emotions in check, not letting a single crack slip out. 

It was especially hard when Wes snapped at her about her integrity. A lightning strike of hurt rocketing through her at the memory.

But… It's not Wes’s fault. It’s hers. She shouldn’t have said those things about her friends, even if she was upset. It wasn’t fair to them. She knows they all count on her, and that’s the way she likes it. She loves to help and she must have-!

Stop. She needs to calm down. She needs to be focused for this. Wes has a plan. Wes always has a plan. A plan that will work. It will be fine. She just has to get into a fight with him in the courtyard in front of everyone she knows. That way, Ace will think her and Wes broke up and he can get close to him again. It will be easy. Ryanne knows how to act. This is just… Stage fright, that's all.

With a deep breath, Ryanne enters the courtyard, swallowing at the whispers and stares of her classmates. Wes is in front of the fountain, just like they planned. Ace is sitting with a few of the student council members, not too close but not too far, just like they planned.

“Hey, Wes,” Ryanne starts softly, though with the quieting down around them it might as well have been a shout.

“Ryanne.” Wes regards her coolly. And even though she knows he’s faking, she knows it, she can't stop her breath from catching and her posture straightening. 

“You stood me up last night… Didn’t return my calls… Did something happen?” Ryanne tilts her head with a small, tense smile.

“Oh, don’t give me that.” Wes scoffs. “You know exactly what happened, Hunt.” Ryanne blinks, thrown off.

“After what you said about us?” A gesture to the listening classmates. “About me? I thought you knew better than that, Ry.” It’s fake. Ryanne steps closer, putting a gentle arm on his shoulder that he rips away from her. It’s fake.

“Wes, please, we can talk about this.” She says, and she doesn't exactly have to fake the hurt in her voice. “Tell me how to fix this…” Wes rolls his eyes. It’s fake.

“What do you want from me, Ryanne? I thought I knew who you were, but was it all just an act?” He takes a step towards her, pointing his finger accusingly. It’s fake. “I can’t believe I fell for it. Even now, you’re standing here, playing the victim yet again. I mean,” He laughs in disbelief, a hand on his forehead. “I thought you were smarter than this.” It’s fake. 

“Wes, you can’t just say that about me. That isn’t fair.” Her hands are shaking at her sides.

“You wanna talk about fair? How is it fair that you lied to everyone and still have to be the good guy? It’s actually incredible, Ryanne. Really, bravo.” He claps sarcastically. It’s fake. He doesn't know that that’s what they used to say to her.

Poor Ryanne, always the victim. Poor Ryanne, hurt herself yet again. Ryanne, haven’t you gotten enough attention? Ryanne, have you finished yet? Ryanne, Ryanne, Ryanne…

She slaps Wes, an angry flush on her face and a stinging on her palm. He doesn't have to feign his surprise.

“Fuck you.” She spits. “How dare you, Wes? After everything I have done for you? After everything I have done for all of you?” Her eyes snap to the classmates that were listening in. “When is the last time I have ever asked you for anything? When is the last time we hung out without you needing anything? When is the last time you even asked me about myself, huh?” She gets in his face, voice low and shaking.

“When is my birthday, Wes?”

Wes flounders for a moment, mouth open to prove her wrong but nothing coming out. Ryanne sniffs, the anger making way for tears. She wipes at her eyes. “We’re done. Don’t text me.” She turns on her heels, making a swift exit. She waves off Payton and Mia, both of their eyes wide. Julian and Nishan look almost impressed. 

Right.

It was an act.

Of course it was an act.

Then why does she feel like this?

Ryanne ignores the people trying to comfort her and locks herself in one of the empty classrooms. She doesn't want them to see her like this. She’s supposed to be a piller. She’s supposed to be a beacon. She’s supposed to be perfect.

With a shaking hand she unlocks her phone. There’s a message from Wes.

“That wasn’t all an act, was it?” is all it says.

“No. I think we actually need to talk.”

Despite herself, Ryanne snorts at her terrible, wonderful boyfriend.

“I’m in Mr. O’Brine’s room.”

“I’ll be there in ten. Ace is about to approach”

Yup, the match-making system of had definitely lost a lot of its marbles, hadn't it? Before the face of the third candidate could appear, I summoned up all my courage and shouted out. "No, hang on a minute! I don't have any thoughts of marriage yet!" The Judge lowered his head as if he wanted to apologise and backed off. [If the esteemed Prince isn't ready yet, then the introduction of the next candidate can be delayed until the next time…] [Hmm… I wonder who'll be able to tame this stubborn Prince of ours.]

We all agree on who was about to show up as the third option, right? We all know who it was gonna be? Right?

Oh man, I just about fell out of my chair and rolled around on the floor when the Candidates started to appear. I know everyone in the entire Star Stream seems to love their shipping, Uriel and Persephone in particular, but I WAS NOT PREPARED.

Okay, I was maybe a little prepared for some teasing since Persephone loves to tease him about his (so far nonexistent) love life but this whole little matchmaking presentation from a Judge of the Underworld was more than I could have ever imagined. And let's not forget, we're literally right in the middle of a massive battle that's about to go sideways due to the meddling of a certain archangel. But, you know, priorities.

I swear...what even is this novel? How am I ever gonna explain any of this to anyone?

Oh man, and then after teasing him all this time about Sangah and Joonghyuk (…and then Joonghyuk again…) Persephone just casually drops Bihyung into the conversation.
