Okay challenge mode. You are a therapist and Eridan Ampora from Homestuck has just walked right out of his intro page into your office. How do you fix him?

put him and karkat in a room with a pile of stuff and tell them they can't leave until they've jumped into it and talked about their feelings

#realtalk therapy doesnt work unless the person getting the therapy puts in the effort to make it work #eridan starts the comic in complete and utter denial that he's in need of help #so there's really nothing i nor any stranger could do about that #HOWEVER he does talk to karkat often about his feelings (and vice versa) and #the reason they didnt hang out during the game seems to be #1) they were on separate teams and didnt realize the teams were the same team until later on #2) by then it was too late and eridan had aggro'd all his angels #3) gamzee was deliberately keeping eridan away from karkat and vice versa (likely bc gamzee had a palecrush on kk)#4) karkat was too busy falling victim to his own insecurities abt being a leader to pay attention to his actual friendships #4a) eg. it shouldve been the time player doing the frog hunt with kanaya & not the blood player #like im not saying moirallegiance with karkat would have fixed all of eridans problems but i am saying #what eridan really needed was a friend who took his problems seriously and could see past his bullshitting #and karkat already WAS that friend - they just never hung out #so by the time the meteor rolls around eridan has spent WEEKS feeling abandoned anxious and alone on his death planet #and karkat has gotten used to not thinking about eridan too much #so karkat - who is basically eridans only actual friend at that point - isnt able to get through to him & eridan snaps #like the thing about sburb/homestuck is that it really stresses the importance of friendship and working together #letting each other help with each others' problems #thats why the smallest viable game is still two people by necessity #so when we see things like gamzee snapping or eridan snapping or vriska snapping #as much as these are the 'fault' of the person snapping they also need to be viewed as comprehensive team failures #the people who should have spent the game together didnt and the people who shouldnt have spent the game together did #vriska was allowed to bully tf outta tavros and nobody intervened #eridan was left all alone and nobody tried to help him #and everybody was mean to gamzee and nobody tried to connect with him #and you know whose job it is to make sure the right people are hanging out together? the blood player #and unfortunately our blood player was so insecure that he was doing jobs that werent his to do #im not saying pale erikar would fix homestuck but i am saying pale erikar is a symptom of things being fixed in homestuck

about reth's hairstyle, it's not locs guys alhdg it's a somewhat fantasy-esque hairstyle where his straight hair is long but twisted back and tied to keep it in place. we don't see it in the official art, but his in game model has multiple hair ties throughout the length of the pieces to keep his hair in that style. this hairstyle is doable in real life if you use that many ties

obviously these models don't show every single strand of hair but the official art backs up the fact that it's straight (note the individual strands that are loose)

you can see here that it's straight hair just twisted into individual pieces. you can also see in both the model and art that the end of his hair goes straight down and has clear separated strands. it wouldn't do this if his hair was locd (you'll notice that sifuu and hassian have blunt, round ends to their locs)

his in game model does have some pieces that don't have any ties so it's possible that those are locs but honestly, i doubt it. i'm gonna go out on a limb and say it has more to do with the hair being in the back and not needing as much detail. or the devs didn't want clipping issues since the back pieces are grouped so close together and his ties come up quite a bit. either way, his hair is most likely straight and just in weird ponytails basically. and if it is meant to be locs, then they're modeled badly aldhg especially in comparison to hassian and sifuu

#his modeled hair also doesnt have a texture to it unlike hassian and sifuu #and by texture i mean you can see that their hair is likely in the type 4 range and definitely not straight #personally i think they wanted to give reth longer hair but needed to come up with a style that would keep it out of the way #hence twisted back in weird ponytails #reth #there are also some player hairstyles that are locd and again you can see clear texture and zero straight hair strands #its just like. when you compare reth's hair to the player options and npcs that Definitely have locs there's a noticeable difference #if the devs wanted him to have locs then they modeled it badly #and im not trying to be mean here #if his hair is meant to be locd but originally straight it still wouldnt look the way it does in game #it definitely Looks straight but twisted back in large sections and tied together #which isnt what locd hair looks like.. and the devs clearly know that because the actual locd hairstyles in the game look fine #anyway i just wanted to give my two cents aldhg

a fundamental problem with me is that I do like people and I like being around other people and I like hanging out with my friends but I also almost exclusively like doing completely solo activities, which isn't, you know, how anyone expects or wants socializing to work

I have never met a game whose story is fighting its open world concept as hard as Red Dead Redemption 2 does.

I've reached Chapter 6, and so far the main story of the game is the gang drawing too much attention to their crimes, getting into an epic shootout, and then having to shift camps, towns, even states, because they're wanted men.

It's 1899. The Wild West is dying, the strength of federal and state governments and their collaboration with Pinkertons is growing, an outlaw can't simply shift to the next town over with a different name. We're losing people, the law is closing in on us, everyone is feeling desperate. It is literally the story of our protagonist losing his old way of life and his world getting smaller and smaller.

But like. His world isn't actually any smaller.

How am I supposed to take Arthur saying "I'm a wanted man in two states :(" seriously when I have the whole map at my disposal, with any of the bounties I get (including ones from main story missions!) easily paid off at the local post office.

This is way worse than when open worlds make it seem like the protagonist is fucking around while the world is on fire! At least then it is merely that the open world is orthogonal to the main story, and some games even throw in a token reason to go running around (see: closing portals in Dragon Age: Inquisition). But here the open world actively fights against the deliberate claustrophobia and panic that the main story is trying to induce in us, which is the worst interplay of open world and main plot I've seen.

#red dead redemption 2 #rdr2 #it's so wild because I saw this game being praised for its open world and immersion #and it feels soo unimmersive because of how it's trying to be serious and ~realistic~ and then doing goofy shit like this #like hm I keep thinking of horizon zero dawn and saints row 4 #saints row 4 Knows that it is here to be chaos incarnate and parody a bunch of different sci-fi canons like The Matrix and Mass Effect #and knows its protagonist and player share the same goals of fuck around and find out and so you shoot up the fake city all you want #horizon zero dawn is a canon that takes itself seriously and is (partially) about Aloy seeing a world she never had access to before #jaggedwolf plays rdr2 #jaggedwolf rambles #mine

I do not pay attention to the current state of fnaf lore honestly anything after literally just like the fourth game is completely alien to me. But I do think it's extremely funny that I'm pretty sure there is still literally still no conclusion on the bite of 87. It was like one of the big mysteries in the first game and it's still completely unaddressed. The time it seemed like it was Finally Revealed and markiplier said the funny meme about it was actually a different year for some reason. There's so much nonsense in those games now in that entire franchise even that it's not even worth bothering to comprehend it any mystique once there is gone to make room for incomprehensible over-explanations for everything EXCEPT that. It's kind of beautiful. It's really stupid.

#honestly i think they would have benefited from hard-rebooting the series for the new ones instead of just kind of i think soft-rebooting it #but already before the vr one they were getting kind of silly with the ''every player character was the same guy who was a corpse''#situation. they lost me on that one. Actually they lost me because those first 4 games came out in only like a year span of time #so it was really easy to keep up with them if you just watched any lets player at the time. which you would do if you were 11. which i was #You kind of knew what was happening with feddy whether you liked it or not.#But then it took longer than like 3 months for a game to release and it was like What? I’m going to make an armchair diagnosis: ever since worlds, kristin o’neill was moved to line 1 and onto pp1, the team has struggled to score on even strength. To the extent that kori has manufactured a player advantage by pulling the goalie. The solution to me is obvious: you need to put o’neill back as center line 2 but keep her on pp1 and put like murphy or some other right winger up top.

#Like if you look pre worlds whoever was on that top line was racking up points in assists #but O’Neill is not a playmaker she is a finisher #and that doesn’t work as a style if you don’t have a player advantage #I’m being mean but we also need to talk about getting more good defense in the draft #bc tell me why one person has a -3 rating for this series (in the 3rd d pairing)#Where there have been a total of 4 goals against #I do wish it didn’t impact the 4th line forwards as much #Because I think they are probably better than the 3rd d pairing #Also and I know I keep bringing this up but it is better to have O’Neill take and win more line 2 faceoffs than have her and poulin share #I do think it is worth bringing up that we’ve had a lot of season ending injuries (3)#and we have completely exhausted our original reserve players #to the point where we’ve signed 6 people to the reserve list

Even every sidequest is tied so tightly thematically to the main world and story #everything just laid out with CLEAR intent and purpose #not an insignificant moment to be found from the beginning to the end #everything in the game is about The Problems #The politicism or the Very Specific Past or the issue with the dead #Which are ofc all related to Dirge which in turn tie to your character #Also i like jade empire as a solo combat game.#yes you have companions but 90% of the time i have them in passive mode #Even the fucking. Quest where you join a play. Is key to the political plot and just lays out the corruption for you to see #Also Deaths Hand is SUCH a good villain. 1. Constant threat. 2. A walking dead which ties into the plot #3. KILLS ONE OF YOUR COMPANIONS NO MATTER WHAT #4. In the end you pity him. You PLAY AS HIM if youre on the Open Palm path #5. In Closed Fist hes the 'reward companion for evil players who killed their party' but by god hes fascinating #And you can tell he doesnt even like. Have a true will of his own its just that his soul is tied to you now etc #Anyways. Jade Empire has like. Both moments in the throne room feel like the end. And its just soooo good

i wish there was more of an in-game reason to talk to npcs after you complete lvl 4 friendship/romance with them. i know there's the weekly wants but,, i don't know about other players but for me that's really not enough as there's no real incentive to do it once the relationship levels are full. it's like, yeah i can do it but also like, i don't have to. it's not a need.

i guess for some players it might be nicer/calmer that there's no pressure to keep talking to npcs? but for me, i just think it'd be nice to have an in-game reason to keep talking to them. as it stands now, the only reason i do talk to npcs is cause i want to, not because i need to.

#maybe its just the adhd but i have a somewhat one track mind when playing the game #and i dont talk to npcs unless theyre right in front of me And im not currently in the middle of something #like major object permanence issues and i straight up dont remember them if theyre not in front of me alhdf #But if there was an in game incentive to keep talking to them After lvl 4 then id remember!#like it doesnt have to be a quest or anything but like? yknow?#i think itd be nice actually if the relationship levels just went higher #theyd have to add more rewards to incentive players especially for characters they dont like #but it doesnt have to be every two levels! it could be like every five or ten depending on how far it goes #but i think its kinda silly that all the skills can keep going but not the relationship lvls #ik those are two different aspects of gameplay but still #the levels give players a reason to keep playing!! like i dont Like fishing but i do Want the aquarium #and i can only Get it if i get more fishing coins #yknow?#but with the npcs. there's no in-game reason/incentive to keep talking to them once you finish their levels #which i think is Very silly when so much of the game is character interaction !#anyway #aldhg

Yes I think dumping Troubs and Barclay were ultimately necessary.#Rangers have a very rapidly closing window and if they want to get the Cup fixing 5v5 and keeping Igor is a priority #And say what you want about those guys-- and I WILL miss them I'm not heartless-- but they were huge cap sucks I'm sorry #Trouba I might miss a little less because I haven't seen a captain on this team last longer than 3 years I have no emotional attachment lol #And there were a lot of times that Trouba singlehandedly cost us leads and games #I DO feel for him and his wife though for their situation-- which is very messy and in a perfect world they shouldn't have to move bc of it #In this case it's just one massively burned bridge and while I don't think Drury is handling it perfectly I do think it was inevitable.#Barclay I'll miss a lot I love grindy intangible guys like Barcs but...4 regular season goals is a killer on ANY line #Particularly when you're trying to improve 5v5 play #Together they had a nearly $11M cap hit that's a lot of fucking money and unfortunately sports is a business #I also haven't been......wowed by their offseason moves?#Reilly Smith could have upside but I'm not a fan of his cap hit personally and it will solely depend on how well he performs in his role #Sam Carrick is a rental who basically does your typical fourth line shit I guess #And..........that's it Drury has done nothing else RIP in pieces I guess #Also thoughts on captaincy: they won't name one until they're sure they could run it back I think but if they do it's Troch's to lose #Kreids and Bread don't want it I don't think Mika wants it and I like Fox in theory but he probably isn't the vocal type Troch is #OKAY #Those are my thoughts feel free to agree or disagree but here they are packaged placed and packed.
