this is genuinely such a funny thing I never thought to consider lmao
Ever think about how much GUN must hate Tom Wachowski? He commited multiple crimes, he's housing aliens. He tied a high ranking commander to a chair. And they can't do anything about it.
They want to arrest him so badly but since he's the dad of the three most powerful creatures in the universe they literally can't touch him.

2024 media thread PART OCTOBER
2th October: Sonic The Hedgehog: Scrapnik Island
so i've never, in my entire life, read a Sonic comic- even though i've been eyeing them for literal years at this point, i just. never got around to it. and i remember when this mini-series dropped, i was like 'oh? 👀' because i am nothing if not weak for (vaguely) spooky settings, so at some point or another i bought it, didn't get around to it for a bit, and then, finally- sat down and read it today
and yeah. yeah. i like this. i would, literally, die for Mecha Sonic, and i guess? i have to buy the IDW Collections now??
it's kind of hard to judge all of Sonic (IDW) comics just from one mini-series, but it did very much pull me in, and the art was genuinely gorgeous- like, woah! some of those scenes! i especially like the indoor scenes, really leaning into the spookiness there, and also i really like how the scrapnik looks... funky little friends 🥺
funnily enough, i think the character i liked the least is Sonic, but i'm kind of compelled by that? like, i'm nowhere near as deep in the Sonic hole as i want, but i kind of like the fact that he's a bit of a jerk. it adds charm <3
also i love Tails. like. i absolutely adore Tails. he's my sweet baby boy, and i can't wait to see more of him (since i likely won't see Mecha...), he is literally perfect
anyway, uh. good comic! yay! :D
5th October: The Amazing Digital Circus 3
man, TADC really just keeps on putting out bangers, and- in my humble opinion- this one is the best one so far
like first of all, love the setting and genre use here. it's not too spooky or anything, so people unused to horror can still watch along, but it's still really well done horror, and it's perfectly balanced with TADC's usual comedy. also the monster design- chef's fucking KISS. love the reveal at the end, it's so fun
secondly, rather obviously- THE KINGER FOCUS. god damn, they really hit it out of the park there- he's very obviously In Focus, but he doesn't overtake Pomni's spot as main character, and i really like how we're learning about him with Pomni. it's very charming, and really centralizes her as the main character. like. we are on this journey with her
also i just love him. like let me make that clear. Kinger i love you and i would kill for you
Zooble's wasn't as focused on, which is kind of sad, since they likely won't get an episode to themselves, though we can hope for more focus. on the other hand, i really like the dynamic they had with Cain, and using that as a way to let us see more of Cain was a real treat
it's honestly just such a good episode. like. TADC continues being nothing but genuine peak, and i cannot wait to watch more of it! good fucking show
9th October: Dome Keeper
oh Dome Keeper, i wish i liked you more than i do. there is, for sure, a really good game here- it's not very positive on steam for nothing, after all- but i simply did not click with it
like, i did put 30 something hours into it. i absolutely got my money's worth. but i'm already starting to forget about it entirely, leaving only vaguely bored memories of it behind... quite honestly, i just don't think i was the target audience, here
i do wish i liked it more, though. lovely atmosphere, mining is rather chill, and the base defending -while not a genre i particularly like- was a good enough combination of chill and tense. it was just not meant to be 😔
10th October: The Boy and the Heron
thinking back on it now, writing this after like, twenty days, the Boy and the Heron truly didn't hit as hard for me as i wanted it to
it's not a bad movie- it's a great movie, even, because it is nothing if not a Ghibli classic, and i think anyone who likes animation should watch it, immediately, but... i don't know. something about it makes me wrinkle my nose a little, looking back. it almost feels too busy, too full of its own ideas- none of the relationships between Mahito and the others really hit, not even the one that truly should have, no matter what. i liked the characters, i loved the world, but somehow it just.. didn't hit me
plus, the ending left me feeling kind of flat. like, i get what they were going for, i see the vision, but it personally just... didn't accomplish what it meant to accomplish
haha, i feel like i have to reiterate- great movie. like, it's Ghibli. as much as i'm nitpicking at it now, it was a great watch, and definitely one that's going to be remembered, down the line. just not a personal fave
13th October: The Wild Robot
man. this is such a good fucking movie
like. i knew it was gonna be good- i ended up going to see it specifically because everyone was gushing about it on the twitters, but, like. man. this is such a good fucking movie
i honestly don't have a lot to say about it, other than, like. this is with a family (animated) movie should be. it's such a perfect example of a Good Movie, with such genuine heart and so much love poured into it, and just. yeah. that's the good shit
i know some people wasn't overly fond of the ending, but at least personally, i think it was the right ending. like, it felt very fitting for the story, and could lead into a sequel. which isn't something i'm personally hankering for, but the book does have one, so, hey, that could be fun
but other than that, yeah, i don't have a lot to say? it's a really good movie
19th October: Niichan (by Harada)
i'm kind of waffling about how to properly talk about Nii-chan, because it is very much a manga about the relationship between an adult and a child, but it's also very much outside of reality, like. it's not unrealistic, exactly, but the ending is very much a fantasy, and one i really rather like, but at the same time, it does address the grooming aspect rather realistically, at least at first, but also, just. it's a yaoi. hmm
i do really like this short series. i like how it starts, and how it develops, and i like how it ends, and yes, it's fucked up, but that's the charm of it- the fact that Yui (the child) falls in love with Kei (the adult), and gets to stay in love with him, would in reality be beyond fucked up, but in the realm of fiction, it's. sweet
i saw someone interpret it as more of a work about the 'specific agony that comes from being considered “disgusting” to society, especially the disgust shown to direct or indirect victims of abuse who behave deviantly', and i do think that's more accurate than taking it Deeply Serious as a work about grooming. even if i did not read the actual essay lol
OH, ALSO. DEEPLY IMPORTANT. there's a really charming and delightful female character in this, and i love her so much; the way she sticks by Yui even as she finds Kei disgusting, is so very cute, and i'm deeply enamoured with her. Maiko <3 you are the queen of this whole story <3
i do wish we had a proper translation for this one, since the one i read was... messy. and it's a great work! as much as it touches on deeply taboo subject, i think it's fascinating, and extremely well-written, and also the art is a treat
19th October: Tenchi Muyo OVA series 1
i don't really like harem anime. like, i don't hate the genre, but in general, i find it deeply boring and bland, and unless an anime sounds really interesting, or i've heard amazing things, i am just. not going to watch it
and yet. Tenchi Muyo
at some point not too long ago, but still far enough back it's probably been at least a year, i watched a video on one of the anime series. and said video had praise. and despite myself, i was interested- so fast forward to now, more or less, and i decided- hey. there's a six episode OVA. i could watch that
and oh boy, am i glad i did, because Tenchi Muyo slaps
it is, genuinely, such a great little series- the animation is nice, the writing is surprisingly good, the characters are great, and despite feeling a little bit all over the place, the plot is interesting and engaging. like, it's no wonder this was such a hit back in the day, because i am charmed
and despite being a harem, it barely feels like one- Tenchi isn't a pervert, and is instead a surprisingly normal guy, who has just found himself in the most bonkers situation, and is doing his best to handle it- like, he's nice! he's endearing in his normality! i would pet him gently on the head!! and while there is a whole lot of women around him, none of it feels forced, or particularly in your face
also, the only real romance genuinely seems to be between Ryouko, Tenchi, and Ayeka, despite what Mihoshi and the branding would have you believe. and i'm pretty sure those three will eventually figure it out and kiss about it. they got those poly vibes
also, importantly- the female characters. like holy shit, i love these gals. i am genuinely, still, surprised at how well-written these girls are. they're genuinely such great characters, and i am really looking forward to coming back to them, at some point down the line
like Tenchi Muyo is just- it's just good. it's definitely one of those classics that shouldn't be forgotten, and deserves to be remembered, because they were cooking some good fucking food, here. it's great <3
30th October: The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
i did not mean to take a month to finish this dang game, but such it is, and, unsurprisingly- it's good
like. it's Nintendo. it's Zelda. of course it's good. it's charming, it's fun, it's got an interesting gameplay mechanic at its core, there really is not much else to say
i do think i would have personally preferred a more typical Zelda, but that's not really related to anything other than personal preference. i like stabbing and slashing and jumping around, and while i think the mechanic is neat, it's not one that personally appeals
i do think it's a very smart take on a playable Zelda, because it's unique (and therefore gives us a reason to actually play as her, outside of 'i would like to') and does fit into the whole. wisdom role. she has. i do wish the menu was. better. because holy shit, it's so bad, but apparently TOTK (<- has not played it) has the same problem, so... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
there's obviously not a lot of story or anything, it's a Zelda, but it's got the usual charm and energy, and i really liked the characters. it's such a joyful little world to explore, and even when i was forcing myself to Lock In, i was very much having fun. also i would kill an entire nation for Condé
31th October: Late Homework
a little horror snack! for my Halloween!!
genuinely a fantastic little game that i had a great time with, even if it wasn't particularly long or difficult. like, it's just a good time! a little spooky! amazing atmosphere! absolutely fantastic lowpoly graphics!! there is nothing here NOT to love, and i definitely don't regret buying it for a second
there's also a bunch of costumes to find, and some score chasing you can do, including an option for a harder difficulty, so there's definitely a little bit of replayability here! it's generally not my thing, but maybe i'll do it with this one... it's such a neat little game :]
also there's a bonus secret folder in the game that shows you low res cat pictures, and i think that's the most genius idea i've ever seen. please. devs. do more of that. i wanna see your cats (other pets also allowed)

okay to summarize how this movie made me REACT:
- The song choice for Sonic’s introduction (LESS THAN 10 MINUTES INTO THE MOVIE MIND YOU) made me FLING MY GLASSES OFF MY FACE AT LEAST TWO ROWS OF (empty) SEATS AHEAD OF ME. IT WAS HORRIFYING GARY I COULD’VE LOST THEM AND HAD TO WASTE 30 DOLLARS AND 2 HOURS OF MY LIFE WATCHING A MOVIE I LITERALLY COULDN’T SEE BECAUSE I’M BLIND...AND I FEEL LIKE I DID THIS WITH THE FIRST MOVIE.
- I watched it with a close friend. I’m very glad he’s used to my antics cause every time Knuckles came on screen he gave me his hands to just PUNCH AND BITE
- There was a scene that got me so riled up I shoved my whole fist in my mouth honestly I cannot remember which it was though 😢
- Was biting my Knuckles the entire time this movie made me go RABID
- During the Shadow reveal I fell VIOLENTLY OFF THE THEATRE SEAT TWICE. ONCE CAUSE OF THE 50 YEARS MENTION AND AGAIN ONCE I SAW HIS SHOES (everyone knows that the character’s drip is easily the most important part of their reveal it’s COOL)
- I started yelling at geese outside after the movie I think they were getting mad at me
- I fell to my knees in the middle of the sidewalk once said close friend told me Jim Carrey might not be in the third movie. Multiple cars stopped beside us thinking I collapsed
- LOTS OF YELLING IN PUBLIC something was happening with police near the theatre so I’m genuinely surprised they didn’t go “hey shut the fuck up” right to my face
- I sat in the dark for a long time eating pizza and listening to my Sonic 2 struggle tweets playlist (the experience WAS AMPLIFIED IN SOME WAYS but in others it fell fucking apart and also How am I supposed to think of the cute imagery of Team Sonic all beside eachother in “their moment” when THEY PROCEEDED TO TALK ABOUT COCK FOR LONGER THAN NECESSARY THERES A LOT GOING ON HERE!!!!!!!!)
- I don’t think I slept. Hi

My thoughts and feelings on Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
Tumblr media
It took a short while for me to finally book a ticket, go to the cinema, and watch this movie that I’ve all of 2022 so far really looking forward to. While I look back and realize that I had some issues with it, I genuinely really enjoyed the first Sonic movie, and can gladly say the sequel almost completely destroyed every problem I had with it’s prequel.
I won’t go as far as to say the movie is perfect, but the primary reason for this post is to do something similar with what I did for Avatar: The Last Airbender. After I watched that series, I made a post going through all my thoughts and feelings on it, and felt that this movie had such an impact on me, it was necessary to do the same thing for it.
I can’t really make a solid introduction or explain why it is that I really wanted to do this, but one thing you should know is that this WILL contain spoilers for the movie. If you haven’t seen it and want to, then do not read what’s under the cut.
So without further ado, let’s get started.
If I’m being totally honest, the opening to the film didn’t catch me immediately. I’m not referring to what happens with Robotnik on the Mushroom Planet, because that whole sequence where he tries to get back home and ends up meeting Knuckles there is pretty good. I’m moreso talking about the Blue Justice sequence where Sonic goes all vigilante and tries to stop a police chase. This movie is incredibly cheesy, and a lot of the jokes I do genuinely find funny, but this whole bit at the beginning made me feel a bit...egh? That being said, it was pretty good from a narrative perspective, since it shows where Sonic stands as a character, and how much growing he’s got to do. It isn’t really until Knuckles and Robotnik show up to the Wachowski house and attack Sonic that I really started to get into it.
Jim Carrey as Robotnik, as previously, never disappoints. In fact, in this film, he’s able to go the extra mile on how batshit insane he can be. Especially in the escape sequence at the Wachowski house where he jumps on the window of the police car and starts clawing and licking it like he’s fucking Cujo. Overall he still stands to be the best part of these movies, and while it’s unclear if he’ll be back for the next one, or if he’s permanently retiring, I hope whatever road life takes that man, he’ll enjoy it to the fullest. He is and always will be my hero.
Knuckles is pretty fun to watch. He gets a lot of really awesome scenes, especially at the beginning of the film when he first attacks Sonic and Tails. Also, you can tell Idris Elba really put in the best work he could into doing Knuckles voice, because he never fails to entertain me, whether it’s a serious scene, or a comedic one, like the “dot...dot...dot...dot......dot...” scene.
I feel like we need to take a moment to remember that in this movie, Tails runs Knuckles over with a car.
Jim Carry is in his 60′s, DO NOT MAKE HIM FLOSS! It wasn’t funny in the first film, it isn’t funny now.
To my surprise, one of the biggest complaints I’ve seen people have with this film is that the human characters (excluding Robotnik) have a distinct lack of presence, but honestly I prefer it that way. The film mostly focuses on 4 characters: Sonic, Tails, Robotnik and Knuckles, and characters like Tom, Maddie, Rachal and the others do take a back seat, and their short screen time is pretty sweet, despite how much the Wedding B-Plot confused the hell out of me, especially near the end.
I have very mixed feelings about the Bar scene. Namely with the dance sequence. As a guy who loves the absurdity of random dance sequences in movies and TV shows, I feel not only does it go on for a bit too long, but also...Uptown Funk might not have been the best song choice. Yeah, it’s an upbeat party funk song, and it DOES work, but that song is also at least 6 years old now, and all it really does is date the movie. On the other hand, this is quite possibly the most important scene for Sonic and Tails to develop as friends. When all is said and done, they bond through this experience and it shows just how much they trust and rely on each other despite having only met a few hours ago. The Found Family trope is one of the most important factors in both Sonic movies, and it does well here, especially as the scene ends with Sonic giving Tails a blanket, and using his tails to provide Sonic with one.
I do enjoy the snowboarding fight, but this is also where I think the film failed the most in terms of graphic and visual standing. Especially with the moment where Eggman snatches the compass away from Sonic, I think THAT part looked really bad in comparison to the rest of the film.
It’s clever how Knuckles and Sonic have basically the same backstory, both of them losing the last of their family over the same incident. Also, I love that we saw how Knuckle’s looked as a child, and how he still retains his honour as a character despite being an antagonist initially.
The entire Wedding scene that happens after this is just absolutely wacko. Not in a bad way, mind you, but it’s just a narrative beatdown and there’s way too much happening over the course of however long that part goes on, because it goes on for a while. Stuff like everyone attending the wedding, including Randal (Rachel’s fiance) and the priest who’s officiating them being secret agent’s who conspired to monitor the Wachowski’s and capture Sonic; Maddie and Rachel using Tails’ gadgets to rescue Sonic, Tails and Tom; Rachel going on a fucking rampage and hellbent on getting revenge on Randal, only for Randal to reveal he actually was in love with Rachel the whole time and Rachel almost shoots the commander- I’m getting a hernia just writing this, this whole part of the movie is just goofy, crazy and absurd.
Also, speaking of which, the Guardian Unit of Nations, or G.U.N is now in this franchise, and this was a clever way to work it in. They come around as a result of the first movie’s plot, and their response to the battle between Sonic and Robotnik.
I never played the classic Sonic games, so I’m not hellbent or super observant when it comes to locations, but I did notice that the temple containing the Master Emerald is basically a zone that exists in the old Sonic games, and I think that’s good that they did that.
I haven’t really seen anyone draw much attention to this, but even though it is kind of just spamming the same attacks over and over again, I was really looking forward to Sonic and Knuckles’ final fight, and I think it was pretty good. Especially with it’s conclusion. My second favourite scene from the whole film is the scene where Sonic saves Knuckles, Knuckles saves Sonic back, and then they reconcile after they throw sand at each other.
Speaking of which, I do love the little nods to the games in this movie, and the most prominent one that I noticed was the scene where Sonic saves Knuckles from drowning, because he sucks in an air bubble to breath for longer, much like how bubbles in the games keep you alive for longer underwater. Also, if you listen very carefully, near the end of the scene before Knuckles rescues Sonic, you can hear the terrifying countdown music in the background.
There’s something weird about Eggman absorbing the Master Emerald’s power, but with how it turns out, with him using his powers in building the Death Egg Robot, I think it was executed pretty well.
I almost forgot to mention it, but I should really mention that Agent Stone is a hidden gem in this movie. He doesn’t have many scenes, but every time he is in a scene, it’s amazing. Espeically with him making art of Robotnik’s face in his coffee, and putting him in a bunch of different outfits, including a maid one, which really got me. He’s such a gay disaster and an icon.
Hands down, my favourite scene from the movie is what I like to call the “Sonic Heroes” scene, and by that, I mean the whole fight of Sonic, Tails and Knuckles fighting as a team against the Death Egg. Not only was it entertaining, and a great blend of action packed and funny, but I also think it was the most visually stunning part of the film (aside from the Super Sonic scene).
This film has a lot of great dialogue and storytelling, but my absolute favourite interaction is this one: Sonic: Tails! Any ideas? Tails: We have to find his weak spot. Knuckles: I suggest the groin! Sonic: What!? No! NO! Knuckles: Traditionally, yes! The groin is the weakest spot! Sonic: Stop! Saying! Groin! And then Sonic says two seconds later Sonic: I know what his weak spot is! It’s me! I’m the groin! I have no idea why, but this whole sequence is just so hilarious to me. I think it has something to do with the fact that Knuckles believes entirely in honour, and respect, and a fair fight, and yet his solution to beating the Death Egg is “punch it in the dick.”
There are two instances in this film where I felt so nostalgic, that I actually sung songs from the Sonic games under my breath. The first was when the trio is standing on the wreckage and fighting, I sung the Sonic Heroes theme, and the other was when Sonic becomes Super Sonic, I sung Open Your Heart. Both songs work very well for both situations.
Speaking of Super Sonic, the whole buildup to the transformation, and the actual execution of the whole scene was fantastic. From the moment the Master Emerald shatters and Sonic, Tom and Maddie look like they’re about to die, up until the point where Sonic causes a chili dog to land on Knuckles’ face, the entire sequence was just really heart pulling and visually stunning.
Going back to what I said about Found Family, I love the final scene of the movie where the gang are playing baseball with each other. Much like the opening Blue Justice scene showing how far Sonic has left to go, this scene shows just how far Sonic has come. He played baseball by himself in the first film back when he was lonely, and now he’s got a family and other animal friends to play with him. He even calls Tom his dad in this scene, and I adore it. It’s also fun to see Knuckles finally enjoy himself after having a constant frown for who knows how many years, and actually now recognizing everyone else as a friend instead of an enemy or a cohort.
Kid Cudi has my respect. I didn’t have any problems with “Speed Me Up,” but “Stars in the Sky” is a song that I just cannot get out of my head, primarily because it lives there rent free.
Ok...don’t sue me on this, but I have VERY mixed feelings about the mid-credits scene. What I LIKE about it is that the shooting and visuals of it are heart-pounding and make your adrenaline rush with excitement and anticipation, especially because it eludes to how the movie’s are going to carry on with the already entertaining plotline regarding Shadow and GUN. Actually seeing Shadow in the movie universe gave me chills, and I do love Shadow as a character, so I am eagerly looking forward to what Paramount do with him. However, I am also kind of confused, nervous, and even a little upset that Shadow is now in the movie universe, the main reason being that we still haven’t seen hide nor hair of Amy or Metal Sonic, and I expected them to be next. In fact, I would have PREFERRED they be next, because it’s weird having a Sonic series without at least Amy in it. These days, she’s as important to the series as Tails and Knuckles are, so I can only assume that she may be introduced in the Knuckles TV series Paramount are making. I hope so, because as much as I love Shadow, I feel like it’s way too early for him to make an appearance in the movie-verse.
And that’s basically everything. If you haven’t seen this movie...why are you reading this? Go see it and stop spoiling yourself! I give this movie a 9/10 score, because it improved upon the first movie by a huge margin, and it’s unquestionably the greatest video game themed movie to ever exist ever.

18, 20, and 22 for the ask game! :)
Tumblr media
18) What are your hobbies?
The main one is playing videogames, but I also like reading books and comics, watching the occasional TV series/animated media when on the train and taking a walk!
It sound more than it actually is, because in truth, since I'm stuck at home because at home and videogames are one if not the only thing that stimulates me enough, gaming is the main thing I do in my free time.
...not gonna lie, my life feels pretty empty at the moment.
Ever since I started working and am away from all my friends, my life feels more hollow than ever.
Other hobbies I technically have but almost never end up doing are creating art, mainly writing and gamedev!
But I can barely do them due to lack of time, energy and executive dysfunction, and it's one of the most frustrating things ever.
I can barely write, I haven't worked on any games after the one I made on the first months of Covid and while I do want to draw or paint for the heck of it, most of the fun I have doing it is being in company while creating, so doing it alone feels a bit pointless.
...sorry for turning this into venting
20) Favorite book?
May be kinda cheating, but I loved reading the Metal Gear Solid 4 and Halo Reach novelizations! Especially the MGS4 one, I consider it to be better than the actual game.
As for books that aren't adaptations, hmm.
I'll admit I don't remember much of the book I read after a while passes (then again I don't remember much of anything), but honestly I haven't felt hooked into a book for a long time.
Granted, while I am reading more now that I live near a library I'm not reading as much as I want or should, so...
I'll accept any reccomendations if there's a book you'd like to share!
21) Favorite show?
Again, I'm not one who tends to rewatch/replay stuff, but some of my favorite shows are Phineas & Ferb, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Ducktales 2017 and the She-Ra reboot!
Yeah, most of the stuff I watch is animated.
I started watching Heartstopper after hearing about it though. I'm in only a few episodes in, but it's pretty cute!
22) Favorite movie?
Movies are probably the type of media I watch the least due to their length requiring too much attention on my part, but some of my fave movies are Revenge of the Sith due to it being like a insanely fun rollercoaster ride if the rollercoaster was poorly made in CGI and on fire, Emperor's New Groove since it's the funniest thing Disney has ever made, and Spaceballs because it's an hilarious parody and Star Wars if it was actually good
Besides non-comedy movies, A Silent Voice really hooked me for a few months back in the day.
Recently I also watched the first Sonic Movie since it came on Netflix and it was way better than I expected!
Too bad I missed the sequel at the movies..

Flashpoint 2: Advent Solaris - Chapter 4
AKA the chapter with the “Take that!” trope pulled against people who made a movie I highly dislike
And also where a bunch of elitist government people get what you wish they’d get in our world.
Enjoy the escapism!
Tumblr media
With everything that was going on in and around Soleanna - as well as the time stream for that matter, it was easy for one to forget one of the people who the events seemed to center around. That person being the young, no older than fifteen in fact, Princess Elise III of Soleanna. Kidnapped twice by Dr. Eggman in the span of just a few hours, the auburn haired teenager sat alone in a cold metallic cell. All she had with her was the clothes upon her body, and the thoughts within her head.
Even as she looked down at her lap, even as her face frowned and her arms folded, she remained strong. She did not shed a tear. Even in this, one of her darkest hours yet, she reminded herself of when she was a young girl resting her head upon her father's lap. His words, his voice, repeated in her head:
"Be a strong Duchess, Elise. Don't cry, no matter what happens".
"Be Brave…"
It took all the strength within her to not cry remembering her father again. She was sure that if he were still upon the earth, Eggman would not have dared kidnap her.
However, there was nothing she could do to change the fact he was gone.
Closing her eyes, she tried to focus on memories that didn't bring her to the verge of tears. All she could get into her mental imagery however, were the events of the previous hours - Sonic. The blue wind. Not quite the knight in shining armor that one would expect to save a kidnapped princess, though Elise was not one to complain. She remembered being first held at Eggman's impromptu outpost in the various ancient ruins in Soleanna's great Dusty Desert, with Sonic and Tails arriving to save her, having the perfect opportunity to do so due to the Egg Carrier needing to land in order to be properly refueled.
She remembered watching Sonic square off against that massive, black robotic dog that the mad roboticist had sent after him and Tails. The robot was more than incapable of matching Sonic's speed - and was outsmarted by the Hedgehog simply grabbing hold of the horn atop its head and forcing him to ram into the walls and statues of the impromptu arena that they fought in. Elise watched all of it with awe, and smiled hopefully once the robot was finally successfully vanquished.
Watching the one-headed 'Egg Cerberus' fall to the sand-drenched stone beneath it as it short circuited and succumbed to the damage Sonic gave to it was satisfying to her - not because of the robot's fall, but because it meant Sonic had managed to at least temporarily rescue her from Eggman's clutches.
The best part of her temporary time being rescued was what came after though. Sonic whisking her through the desert, giving her more thrills than she ever had in her entire sheltered life as he destroyed any robot that came after them - Tails successfully holding a larger armada of them off, and eventually taking a 'pit stop' in a beautiful plain of lush, green grass and winding hills. Her and Sonic had a good laugh about it as their excitement calmed down, before she took notice of a minor cut he had on his arm.
"You're hurt!" she had said to him, though he was quick to brush it off:
"Oh that? Don't worry about it, it's nothing."
"Don't say that! Here, let me fix it" with a slight chuckle, she insisted - and he relented, as she cut off a small portion of her white dress and used it as a makeshift bandage for Sonic's arm. It was the least she could do, after all he's done for her so far. However, she couldn't help but feel guilt for the small cut, as small as it was, it would not have happened if not for what she held inside of her - "I'm sorry" she said as he remained kneeled down to Sonic's eye level, "It's all my fault."
"Hey" Sonic said to her, gaining her attention, "Smile!"
Looking at her, he wagged his finger as if to say that her frowning was not what he had signed up for, though his nose soon became the brief resting spot for a butterfly as he did this. Both he and Elise froze and looked at the small winged creature so delicate and silent. So a smile, Elise reached out a hand to the creature - though it flew away from the two once she did. There was then soft laughing from both of the two, as one does with such small yet lovable moments in life. They watched it as it flew off into the sky above the grass-covered hills, following the breezes of the wind to wherever it's next destination was.
That was when Sonic commented:
"Your smile, that's all I need."
As Sonic began to walk casually away from Elise, the princess softly chuckled once more before following after him - the two walking side by side at a 'normal' pace, enjoying the clear blue sky, bright sunlight and peaceful breeze while Sonic finally had enough time to get some important questions out of the way:
"Eggman mentioned something about the 'flames of disaster', is that why he's after you?"
"Yes" Elise explained, "The name of the sun god our country honors is Solaris, it is told that Solaris' rage would destroy the world. His wrath comes in the form of the flames of disaster. 10 years ago, we almost faced the full force of his fury" she then stopped as she attempted to recall the events of ten years ago, all she remembers was her five year old self standing before her father, moments before he jumped onto her as a white flash enveloped them both, her only explanation for Sonic though was a softly spoken "I was a child then, so I don't remember it very well…...I lost my father then…."
It was her last few words which made Sonic stop and look at her as she looked down at her hands, struggling hard to grieve without tears. However, Elise managed to collect herself as she said to Sonic:
"And now that man is trying to cause the same disaster again, what can I do?"
After a moment of her bowing down at the ground below her, soon she felt something - someone - grab onto her hand. It was Sonic, whisking her away to run with him across the hills. Of course, he body did comply with his silent urging - though she had to remind him:
"Sonic! Sonic wait, I can't run that fast!"
Though he ignored her. Thankfully he was not going anywhere near his top speed, instead merely running with her at a slightly above average pace, as to not hurt her. Even so, Elise proved to enjoy the sensation of running with Sonic, just as she did during their trek through the desert ruins. The breeze against her hair and face, the rush and thrill of it all. The fact that they were now running through a much more peaceful environment helped as well. Stopping at a hill about a mile or so away from the one previously were standing on, Sonic said to the princess as she laid in the grass, gazing up at the beautiful sky:
"Feels great, doesn't it?"
Panting as she caught her breath once more, Elise replied:
"Yes, I, I never ran that fast before!"
"Nothing starts until you take action!"
Nothing starts until you take action...
In the present, as she remained sitting on the cold metallic floor, those words continued to echo through her mind. So far, all she has been is a damsel in distress - a princess to be constantly kidnapped, and constantly rescued. She had hoped that her being rescued in the desert would have been the only time she needed to be rescued, though that ultimately turned out to be quite the wrong assumption.
Once her and Sonic had returned to the Soleanna Castle Town district, walking straight through one of the open plazas on their way to where Elise could safely be transported back to her castle, the two's walk was interrupted by a single green ball of energy that exploded at their feet, making them both jump back with Sonic holding an arm out to protect Elise. Down from the sky descended their attacker - a white, golden eyed hedgehog with black-green boots and gloves with a mysterious cyan symbol on them - both his gloves and boots were more futuristic than most contemporary fashion - and he had several leaf-like quills protruding from his forehead while only two large quills extended from his head.
Pointing directly at Sonic, he said in a menacing tone yet not-so-intimidating voice:
"I've been looking for you, you're the Iblis trigger. Your actions will condemn us all!"
Iblis…
Elise felt a shiver down her spine hearing that name, and felt it again while recalling the events. She had never explicitly heard that name in her life, though something about it - something in her mind if not her very soul - made it feel familiar as though it were a close friend or an even closer enemy.
Still, in that memory, she could recall Sonic standing in front of her in a protective manner - asking of the strange newcomer:
"Who are you?!"
To which, the white Hedgehog responded:
"My name is Silver. For the future of the world, I will destroy you!"
What followed was a battle between Silver and Sonic, the blue blur and the soldier of the future. Sonic, needless to say, made Silver seemingly hopeless on the ground - as Silver was incapable of reproducing any more than average walking and running speed. However, as Sonic dashed to the back of the plaza and then charged at Silver both he and Elise soon discovered Silver was far more a deadly threat than first estimated: with the sheer power of his thoughts he surrounded Sonic in a cyan aura and lifted him into the air - stopping all of his speed and momentum as well.
"It's no use!" Silver shouted at Sonic, before sending him flying into the tables and chairs scattered around the plaza with just one more shout, "Take this!"
With a loud thud and several crashes, Sonic was now in the middle of several debris - chairs and table parts mostly. However, now levitating in the air Silver was approaching him. Realizing he had to think of an actual strategy to use against him, Sonic bought himself by running around the plaza in a circle - making sure to keep distance between himself and the white-furred attacker. Elise though, screamed as she soon was caught in the middle of Silver telekinetically lifting up a virtual army of tables, chairs and even assorted barrels into the air and beginning to hurl them like rapid fire missiles at Sonic's speed-powered blue wind. There was nothing the princess could do besides keep a safe distance between herself and the conflict - while praying she would not get hit in the crossfire considering how much debris was flying around as the objects hit the stone floor at a velocity comparable to Sonic's running speed.
Elise could hardly keep track of what was going on - all she could see was Sonic's blue wind, and Silver stationary in the middle of the plaza, attempting to use virtually every object in the entire plaza as an aerial projectile against Sonic. Sonic, for his part, was trying to get a surprise attack against Silver. He did get at least one in when he slid on the floor from behind Silver - managing to trip Silver onto the floor and force him to drop all that he was carrying in that moment.
However, Silver fired another psychic energy ball at Sonic - forcing Sonic to do a flip to avoid it in time before contact - and the battle resumed immediately. Elise, watching this, only wanted it to end. Yet still, as she looked at Silver - she couldn't help but feel as though this white hedgehog was familiar in a way. Even as she recalled him in her memory, she felt as though the two had met before the battle took place - though that couldn't be, she doesn't remember a Silver the Hedgehog outside of this battle.
Even in her recollection she had little time to ponder Silver's identity however - as soon enough she recalled the end of the battle, when Sonic was successfully caught again by Silver's telekinesis following a failed surprise attack and was promptly flung directly at one of the surrounding building's stone walls. Miraculously Sonic survived the blast, though fell to the ground in short order. As Sonic struggled to catch his breath, Silver approached him and expressed condescending disbelief in him:
"Hmph!" the Hedgehog huffed, kneeling down to get a good look at the panting blue Hedgehog as he continued to arrogantly mock him, "Is this a joke? How could something like you cause the destruction of our world?"
Unbeknownst to both Hedgehogs, a family set of large mechanical hands was appearing just behind Elise - Elise herself could only hear their mechanical whirring sounds far too late to react to them, just as Sonic responded to Silver:
"What...do you mean?"
"It doesn't matter" Silver shook his head, "For the sake of the future, the Iblis Trigger must be destroyed!"
Just before Silver could attempt another direct hit to Sonic, both Hedgehogs were distracted by Elise's loud scream as Eggman's hovercraft yet again grabbed her. The last thing the princess could make out from the distance as she was Silver managing to make Sonic trip to his feet, and a pink colored figure heading towards them - though nothing beyond this point was audible for her beyond the sound of the hovercraft's engines and Eggman's laughter.
Such was the story of how she ended up in her current place of imprisonment - this large, metallic base situated near the snow-covered peak of Soleann's White Mountain. She wasn't sure if this base was built by Eggman or by her own people, though if it was the latter she had never heard a thing of it - not that her 'regent' ever seems to inform her of anything.
Aunt 'Mairie'...
That name.
The regent of Soleanna, Lady Mairghread of House McLoch from the far-off land of Lochland. The closest surviving relative of Princess Elise due to her father having no siblings, necessitating the arrival of her maternal aunt to rule as regent for Elise's minority following the man's death. Arriving to Soleanna when Elise was only five years old, it was in truth Mairghread who held the true power in Soleanna for the past 10-11 years - and Elise doubted that her aunt would begin rescinding such power when her 16th birthday would come a mere two months from the current time.
Mairghread was also, legally, the heir to Soleanna's throne should anything happen to Elise herself. Though the woman was well in her later 40's, Soleanna's succession laws were not gender-restricted like that of Lochland's - and Mairghread was Elise's oldest surviving relative.
Elise did not like being the only remaining royal of Soleannan blood, as though it gave her popularity among the people she cared to protect so deeply it also placed a severe amount of stress on her - if she didn't feel that fire inside of her whenever she was urged to cry, she likely would have had a mental breakdown years ago. Aunt 'Mairie' as she liked to be called, was no help in that department either.
Though she was only five years old at the time, Elise still remembered vividly the day that her aunt arrived in Soleanna. The current castle had not been built yet, as the decision as to what to do with the massive, practically imperial stone castle situated as the epicenter of the 'Kingdom Valley' hadn't been quite made yet. Elise remembers waiting at the altar at the cliffside of the forest area, her five year old self protected by mustached prime minister and mayor Lord Regis alongside a small squad of at least seven royal guards. Not to mention the priests that were behind the lot of them.
Still silently grieving for her father, let alone the mother who she lost even before that, Elise stood silently while awaiting for her aunt to arrive. It took a fair few hours for her to materialize in the distant horizon.
Escorted by not only at least seventeen Lochish musicians, complete with plaid kilts and bagpipes, but also by ten armed Lochish guardsmen and what appeared to be a young sheep woman dressed in a professional though now outdated business suit, was Lady Mairghread herself. Elise could back then see elements of her mother in the woman, or at least what she could remember her mother looked like. Her most prominent feature was her bountiful, naturally curly red hair that glistened in the sunlight like fire all those years ago. Elise had inherited the color, though not the curls. The arriving lady also had a thin, hourglass figure. Her hips swayed elegantly as she walked, and she always seemed to hold her head up high - as though she considered herself well above all others around her. She certainly dressed that same part, always wearing extravagant clothing in various rich and exocit colors such as tyrian purple, garnet red, or other specific shades of dark, emerald green. While the outfits she wore were no longer specifically remembered by Elise, she remembered her aunt usually liked to have long, almost whip-like drapes from her shoulders in addition to the addition of veils and golden jeweled crowns - even though she was neither a queen nor even the duchess. Though many in Soleanna would comment that she looked more like an empress with the way she dressed.
Still, there was the matter of her first meeting her niece. Being five years old, Elise did not remember much of what was specifically said that day - except for one thing, the first thing she remembers ever being spoken to her by her aunt:
"Greetings, Elise" she spoke in her soft Lochish accent, almost as though she was trying to conceal her heritage to sound more 'royal', "I am your Aunt Mairghread, though I prefer you call me Mairie, so long as you do we'll get along just fine."
Elise remembered the look on her face. The smile she said while looking down at the five year old. Elise did not trust it. The look in her cold eyes, there was something about her aunt that sent shivers down Elise's spine - as beautiful as the woman had been ten years ago, the fact that way she said 'fine' always struck Elise as strange. She also did not even give Elise the curtsey as traditional custom, even though the young girl gave her one out of respect. Instead, 'Mairie' simply stood though, with a lit cigarette in her hand - puffing it's smoke in the direction of Lord Regis who coughed whenever she did so.
Their relationship did not get better over time.
Elise remembers various quotes from her 'beloved' and 'respectable' aunt, said to her throughout her youth at various times. One specific moment, from only a mere week after their first meeting, remains one of the most vivid conversations she had with her aunt, taking place directly in the old Soleanna throne room itself:
"But I don't want a new castle!" the young princess had shouted, upset upon hearing Mairie's idea of constructing a new castle, with the various priestesses around Elise desperately trying to keep the girl from crying as he continued, "The old one is just fine!"
Mairghread, still smoking in one hand, looked to her niece with a virtually remorseless look as she said directly at her:
"This castle is about as old and dead as your father, princess! And what's dead, is dead. Everyone must learn to move on with life sooner or later, might as well start young!"
The priestesses around Elise all gasped, and stared at their duchess almost frightened at what would come next - while Mairie herself only continued puffing away at her cigarette, ever the chain smoker.
It took every fiber in her being for the young five year old girl to not burst into tears at what had been said to her. Shaking with both rage and sadness, Elise actually clenched her fists and only muttered but one response, the only thing she could force herself to say that wouldn't be seen as madly disrespect to her aunt:
"I'm not a princess, I'm a duchess."
"Excuse me?" her aunt suddenly became angry, approaching Elise as though she intent to do bodily harm to the young child for what she had been told - though one of the hooded priestesses instinctively kneeled down in front of the duchess in silent effort to protect her if the worst did happen.
"I am a duchess" Elise bravely repeated, "I am not a princess!"
To do this day, she remembers precisely what her aunt said to her:
"We'll see about that, 'duchess'."
Elise had madly underestimated the sheer pettiness of that woman. In addition to increasing the taxes on residents in the New City district and drastically cutting the funding for the police force in order to gain the funds to construct the new and current royal palace as well as the ferry system required to reach it, one of Mairie's first major acts was a new constitution - one which she effectively forced a then freshly six year old Elise to sign, decreeing that the duchess was to drop her current title - demoting herself from a Grand Duchess to a mere sovereign Princess. Purely to win an argument with a child.
For years, Elise pondered why her aunt was able to stay in power for so long. Perhaps it was the fact that G.U.N. effectively protected Soleanna as a military force due to Soleanna having abandoned military pursuits in the modern era. Perhaps it was the fact that she was the heir to the throne. Perhaps it was the fact she surrounded herself with Solennans who only had their position because she herself had appointed them - such as Pietro the incumbent captain of the royal guard, to Mairie's personal bodyguards Ernesto & Matteo, not to mention her new assistant Christina. Elise never found out what happened to the sheep woman, though there was that lavish feast thrown upon the grand opening of the current royal palace. 'Lamb Chops' and Haggis were served among the various native delicacies of Soleanna.
Aunt Mairie…
Elise thought to herself, a mix of emotions she struggled to keep down continuing to rumble within her at the mere thought of that name alone.
Just like what's happening now, everytime something good happens that makes me smile, she comes along and ruins it….always...
And….I never take action….
Elise remembered but one incident in particular. A stroll by horse drawn carriage through the streets of Castle Town, protected and escorted by a small troop of Soleanna royal guards. This incident was fresh, as it had occurred just the previous year - and by then the years of unhealthy habits had taken their toll about Elise's once beautiful aunt.
Her age, now rapidly approaching 50, had brought with it grey streaks within her hair which she dried desperately to cover up with dye - though the chemicals she was using proved to be slowly causing her hair to fall out, evident by the once luscious mane having lost plenty of its weight in the prior 10 years. Her voice, once easy to the ears, now had become more hoarse and witch-like, her smoking having done a number on her 's not to mention the increasing amount of early wrinkles that were propping up on her face - and her various tax payer funded plastic surgeries to attempt in coring them, leaving her face an artificial mess.
Even still, she made Elise struggle to keep from coughing as she still ever had a cigarette within her hand. Her assistant and Soleanna royal press secretary, Christina De Paulis - an early-mid 30's native Soleannan woman of average physique who usually wore a face mask due to the aforementioned smoke, was also in the carriage alongside Elise's primary Lady-in-waiting Anna, who was known for usually wearing her large red skirt and pink blouse. She kept having to clean her glasses due to Mairie's smoke getting in them - let alone having to stifle her need to cough.
She snapped if we coughed in her presence...saying it was 'un-lady like'...
All in all, it was not a comfortable ride through the town.
At least, not until a faint sound of music had turned into a symphony very audible to Elise's ears. The unmistakable sound of an accordion, being played by the jolliest of plump, mustached men who inhabited the city - singing in the Soleannan native tongue that made Elise actually defy her aunt's usual orders:
"Stop the carriage!" the 'princess exclaimed, and the drivers complied to her orders. Mairie was visibly shocked, but did not have time to respond as Elise opened the carriage window so that she could get a better look at the jolly middle-aged man as he sang a most beautiful, operatic song in the most jovial of tunes - a song that made her for once in her life feel as though she was something more than just a political pawn:
"Oh, beautiful Princess Elise
Princess Elise, Princess Elise
Oh, beautiful Princess Elise
Beautiful beautiful Princess Elise
All of my love and all of my dreams are only for you
Oh, beautiful Princess Elise
Beautiful beautiful Princess Elise"
Elise was made happy by every word in the song, even making her softly sigh of happiness by the sheer fact the song was complimenting her. She was only ever called 'beautiful' by Anna and the other Ladies-in-Waiting or by the male guards around the palace, never by her aunt nor Christina.
However, there was the matter of the former, who quickly gained command of the situation with an angered yell at the carriage drivers:
"Drivers! Get a move on already!"
And with a rapid jolt of movement that almost sent Elise and Anna out of their seats, the carriage continued on its way - causing the accordion player's music to begin growing ever fainter once more. Then, came the moment when Mairie directed her words directly at Elise - her mouth still fuming out smoke as though she was a dragon:
"What do you think you are doing? You do not stop a carriage ride through the streets to gawk at filthy commoners!"
"He's not a filthy commoner, he's a citizen of my city!" Elise argued back, "And he was singing a song about me, the least I could do was listen to it!"
Her aunt was amused by what she said - laughing until her hoarse coughing kicked in before making moves to strike down Elise's moment of triumph with harsh words as she always did:
"Is that the best you can do? A lonely, fat, middle-aged accordion player who probably makes a single cent an hour? He's lucky I don't have some of my men snap his overweight neck and toss him into the canals like the garbage he is! A commoner's a death for a lowly commoner, not worth the time of royals such as me, and I suppose you as well, Princess" with another huff of smoke she continued as Elise bowed her head and Anna glared with silent fury at her, "It would be a fitting end for street trash such as him. He's not worth a noble death. No, a quick snap to show just how beneath the crown he truly is, how useless and meaningless as a person he is. Like the crap we dump into our toilets. Though, I suppose all things that are dead become meaningless, is it not true?"
That final quote made Elise once more shake, reaching the border of finally snapping. Had it not been for Anna stepping in, she would have:
"Okay, that is enough!" the Lady-in-waiting exclaimed, silence overtaking the carriage as she got her words in, "Madame McLoch, you are only to be regent until Duchess Elise is sixteen years of age, is this really the impression you want to leave when it is you who must listen to her for a change?"
Christina coughed nervously once the ensuing silence became near deafening.
There was nothing anyone of them could say, for once not even Mairie. The rest of the carriage ride that day had been silent, as was the ferry ride back to the castle.
Thank you, Anna
I hope you're still alright without me there...
Unfortunately for Elise, while she remained trapped within her cell at Eggman's base she had no earthly way of knowing if her absence had any effect on Mairie's way to torment Anna. Knowing the powers that Mairie had from her position as regent, she feared the worst.
Still, there were others that she worried about as well.
Not that long ago - only about an hour or so from the present time - she was standing with Eggman inside of some control room, overlooking a window into some circular chamber of sorts - Eggman did not mention what the purpose of this room was until well after the then-upcoming events had taken place. It was honestly hard for her to make much sense of her surroundings - all of it was metallic - clean and reflective, though cold and lifeless. Everything else was only a series of wires, panels, monitors and other various machines. Though it took some time, Sonic, Tails and the red-furred, purple-eyed echidna with two spiked gloved fists known as Knuckles barged into the room - their footsteps clanging against the metallic floors.
As the metallic door slammed shut behind them, Eggman spoke to the trio from the aforementioned control room far above them:
"You're late."
"Well" Knuckles snarked, "We had to deal with your little pets."
"Where's Elise?" Sonic was quick to demand, though as Eggman pulled Elise to be by his side, all the man said was an arrogant and somewhat callous set of words:
"My aren't we impatient?"
"S-Sonic!" Elise exclaimed, honestly feeling uncomfortable as the evil man laid his hands upon her, though there wasn't much she could do about her situation at all. As the three on the ground below got into battle stances, Eggman was quick to remark:
"Ah-ah-ah, you'd better not move" he 'warned', before making demands of his own: "First, the chaos emerald."
As Sonic held out the blue chaos emerald that Elise had tossed to him, Elise couldn't help shake her head at what was happening. She could not believe that what had just started as a regular festival, had turned into all of this. Yet here it was, all unfolding before her eyes.
From a circular 'dent' in the floor a cylinder appeared - with Eggman gesturing for Sonic to place the emerald upon said object. Though Sonic as well as Tails and Knuckles paused, with Elise trapped behind a thick, heavily reinforced plane of glass there was little else for Sonic to do besides comply with what Eggman wanted. Placing the emerald upon the cylinder, in an instant a glass dome encased the emerald and the impromptu container slipped back into the ground - the emerald completely in Eggman's clutches.
Eggman himself almost laughed, though for once managed to hold back on doing that - though he did push Elise away from himself as he extremely giddily slammed a single finger down on a button that evidently, he'd been wanting to press for some time.
In an instant, what had been thought to be a series of bright lights at the top of the room turned out to be part of some greater machine - as a field of bright pink energy emitted down from the ceiling and trapped Sonic, Tails and Knuckles inside of it. After the initial moments of confusion wore off, Knuckles attempted to punch the field - though was sent back via an electric shock. Eggman was quick to 'explain' to them:
"No no, it's no use" he said as menacingly as his now excited self could manage, "It's far too powerful for you to overcome. Now, all me to introduce to you my latest creation - this is the Solaris prototype."
Solaris, Prototype?
Elise could only look to Eggman with a horrified gasp. She had no idea what a 'Solaris Prototype' meant, though something about those two words together made her mortified, as though a dark memory that she kept locked away deep enough so that even her present self couldn't properly recount it. However, the events which were being remembered did not stop with that phrase, as Elise still strongly remembered the rest of what had happened as though it were mere seconds and not an hour prior:
With sinister, wicked laughter Eggman yet again pushed Elise away from himself, this time to step himself towards a small red liver. Frightened, Elise made sure to run to the opposite end of the room - though still all she had the power to do was watch as Eggman swiftly pulled the level and activated his so-called prototype:
"With this machine, I'll be able to control the flow of time itself!"
Within an instant Sonic, Tails and Knuckles were lifted in the air by the force of the machine - and sent barreling towards the ceiling as they could do little else besides scream. Just as quickly did they vanish, along with the pink energy - all in a flash. Watching this Elise had her hands on the glass as she slid down to her knees, the hopelessness setting in as her only would-be saviors had just vanished as though they were nothing.
Eggman, standing on the other side of the room, was quick to bluntly inform her of things which she wouldn't know otherwise:
"Rest assured" he 'comforted' her while standing with his hands behind his back as he paced around the room behind her, "They're not dead...yet. They've just been transported by my glorious invention to another time. Who knows where they'll end up? Could be in the distant past or far future. But my machine still requires some fine tuning."
Elise just bowed her head at the cold metallic floor, trying her best to not cry over the three heroes she had just lost. She could hear all that Eggman said, though she was not actually paying attention to her. It wasn't until he said his next set of words that she actually did so:
"In fact, what my machine needs in order to be complete is your power."
What? My...power? But, I have no powers...
"My...power?"
"Yes" Eggman nodded as Elise looked towards him, slowly building up to his usual gloating self, "I can finally complete plans, now that I have acquired even just one of the chaos emeralds - and you, the duchess of soleanna. I may have lost the scepter of darkness, but nevertheless all I need at this point is you to revive the flames of disaster! And with its power alone I will be able to control everything, and rule the world!"
It was then that he looked down at the teenager, still processing all that was going on in her world. The last thing he said to her before ordering robots in to show her to her cell was a rather cold:
"So, you would be wise to remain on my 'good' side."
And so, events were finally brought to the present. After two 'Egg Gunners' escorted her to her cell, there she sat. Alone. Cold, with only the facilities air conditioning and vent systems providing sound besides her voice. She sat on the floor, thinking over all of these past events repeatedly in her head as she processed all that was happening.
Of all the things she thought over in her memories, one thing rang the most true of all. Those words Sonic said to her in that grassy field:
Nothing starts, until you take action…
However, there still was reality to consider:
I just need to know what action I can take...
There truly wasn't much she could do, being as far as she was aware only a powerless human. Aside from the vents supplying her with the cold air surrounding herself, there wasn't much in the way of anything she could use to escape - the door being one to lock from the outside.
She could only sigh - though while her breath was still visible due to the cold, it should be noted she did not shiver. As though her body was not at all affected by the cold air around her.
There's nothing I can do...
Sonic's gone, and I can't even really save myself from this room at all….
What am I supposed to do?
That was when the vent far above her burst open, as though something had just punched or kicked it open. As the vent cover crashed to the floor out of seemingly nowhere, Elise gasped and stood to her feet. Though she soon heard the sound of footsteps clanging onto the floor from the vent, she saw nothing. That is, until before her eyes a figure materialized seemingly from thin air - a purple figure. Rather than fur, this anthropomorphic creature had scales that were purple in coloration - paired with golden eyes as well as a golden horn above two holes used for his 'nose'. This male figure's tail curled, and he had black-purple shoes with bandages around the top - in addition his gloves seemed to have the addition of armor once they reached his wrists. In addition to the black spikes along his back he did not have 'quills' per say, but his head mimicked the shape of three - one extending from the top, and two from the side.
The purple chameleon looked to Elise and gave her a respectful bow before addressing her in a manner akin to one of her courtiers:
"Princess Elise of Soleanna?"
Elise nodded, though she remained heavily confused by this sudden intrusion. She assumed he was here with heroic intentions, however.
"There is not much time to talk, but I'm here to rescue you from this base."
"I know."
"Then follow me before the alarms sound off, I will explain everything on the way."
Elise nodded in response - though just as she approached Espio, the chameleon's point revealed itself as the loud, blaring sounds of the base's alarm systems went off. Not wasting any further time as robots were sure to be in the cell soon enough, Espio held out his hands in motion for Elise to jump onto his hands. Though she was nervous about doing so, she complied. Amazingly, Espio was capable of lifting her and then tossing her towards the opening of the vent - allowing the 'princess' to successfully climb into the vents. Espio himself followed in after, using his tongue to latch onto the ceiling and climbing back into the vents like any ordinary reptile would.
By the time the robots entered the cell door, there was no sign of either besides the opened vent and the removed cover.
While the vents certainly were cramped and forced Elise to sacrifice much of her bodily mobility, at the very least Espio was crawling in front of her, showing her the way. All around the two, they could hear the alarms from outside. However, either none of the robots were capable of entering the vents properly - or more likely, they weren't aware that Elise and Espio were inside of them. Unless of course, some third option was occurring.
While Elise followed the purple creature through various, twists, turns and sharp corners with only the sounds of the alarms and their own movements surrounding them there was yet still the matter of some explanation for what was going on:
"Can I ask a question?" Elise spoke, "You said, you would explain on the way?"
"Yes ma'am" Espio replied, "Before they headed into the base, Knuckles informed me of what was going on - we agreed on an infiltration plan just in case things went wrong. Evidently, they did."
"Yes" Elise said as she sadly lowered her head, though still followed the reptile, "They did. Eggman, he, transported them into the future."
"The future?"
"Yes, that's what he said...Sonic's chaos emerald, let him do it."
"Sonic's chaos emerald?"
"Yes" Elise spoke with sadness in her tone yet she again restrained himself from tears, "He gave the chaos emerald to Eggman, letting him have one piece of the puzzle to his Solaris project."
"Don't worry" Espio remarked, turning to Elise while suddenly pulling out from the cuffs of his wrists something that shocked her - the blue chaos emerald. The same one that, as far as she knew, had been delivered to Eggman's clutches at least an hour ago.
"Wha-what?"
"We discussed a plan of action before the three headed to base. The one delivered to Eggman was a fake chaos emerald developed by Tails - it had chaos energy stored into itself, but can not generate for itself. We had been hoping to trick Eggman with it….I'm sorry."
"It's alright" Elise sighed, "I'm hoping they'll find a way back."
"It's not impossible, but we must keep moving. I was able to locate a hangar in the base where Eggman keeps various models of his airborne vehicles. We can acquire one and use it to travel to Soleanna faster, rather than traversing through the mountains."
Elise nodded in response, agreeing that it certainly was a plan. She placed her complete trust in Espio - and it was well placed trust. It did not take long for Espio to trace his steps and successfully locate the hangar, and promptly took out one of his shurikens to break the vent open.
Espio jumped out first, though extended a hand out upwards and gently assisted Elise by catching her once she jumped down, before then letting her gently onto the floor. Looking around, it was swiftly confirmed that they were indeed within the hangar that Espio was talking about - it was a large, spacious room constructed like a warehouse. Frost covered parts of the floor due to it existing alongside a currently open bay door - revealing the snow-coated mountains and valleys outside as well as letting in the piercing cold wind inside. Yet Elise still felt none of the cold.
Most importantly though, were the levels of the hangar. Though it was only one room, there were multiple floors worth of walkways and scaffoldings joined together by elevator lifts - with each caring various versions of flying vehicles Eggman is known to use on a regular basis. Elise and Espio had in fact made landfall on the top level walkway.
With the alarms still blaring throughout the base, there was no time to waste in deciding one particular model. Instead, Espio immediately took Elise's hand and led her to the nearest machine. It wasn't the same one as Eggman's current model - it lacked the hand extensions, was more old in design, and even had caution tape around the top of it's hull.
However, just as the two stepped inside of the vehicle and Espio made moves to turn it on and begin piloting it, the robots of Eggman's army entered the room in an effort to stop them.
Elise let out a scream as various Eggman robots began swarming the room - the white Gunners and red Stingers being joined now with brown ball-like robots that rolled in, until revealing they were more beetle-like robots that threw small bombs from their 'horns'. They were also joined by blue-green rhino bots which moved via a single wheel, having a range of attacks ranging from an electric field as well as 'bomb's from their 'flaps'.
Luckily, most of the rhino and beetle robots were crushed to pieces when Espio managed to get the vehicle to turn on and begin moving - the seventeen of them were largely crushed by it immediately. Though both Elise and Espio had to duck in order to avoid the gunfire from the Gunners.
Soon, after some tinkering with the buttons and levers, Espio found out how to speed up and properly steer the vehicle - thus the two were on their way out of the hangar doors before it could close.
A few squadrons of Egg Gunners were sent after them, though they were easily outrun by the flying speed of the vehicle. Once Espio and Elise peered their heads up and back at where the squadron was, they could see that all of the machines had disappeared behind the thick, freezing fog surrounding them.
Turning to Espio, Elise smiled of great relief:
"Espio…" she said, "Thank you, for saving me."
"We're not out of the woods yet, Miss Elise" Espio responded, "We still need to get you back to your castle, to safety."
"I know…" Elise nodded.
"Luckily, this vehicle has a G.P.S. system, so we should be able to-"
"AH!"
Both of them were shocked when suddenly explosions shook the vehicle they were commandeering, in the form of missiles rapidly striking the hull - causing significant damage to the machine and it's systems just as they were beginning to leave the fog of the snow-coated mountain peaks into the more temperate skies that made up the rest of Soleanna.
Robots had managed to catch up with the two - ones that were similar to the Stingers, though we're yellow instead of red, and fired missiles far more rapidly. It wasn't long before Espio and Elise's vehicle began to smoke and short circuit in addition to rapidly begen descending towards the ground below, just as the New City came into view.
As Elise screamed and braced for impact with the ground, Espio dispatched the robots using his shurikens, though to actually destroy them it took some effort as their armor was thicker than the usual models. As in, Espio's projectiles didn't work at all.
"We're going to have to jump!" Espio exclaimed to Elise as he saw that the machine was now either going to explode mid-air due to the yellow robots' constant barrages, or otherwise crash into one of the high-rises of New City. Elise however, could hardly even hear his words:
"What?!"
"No time!"
Espio quickly took Elise into his arms and jumped from the cockpit - just moments before the original model egg mobile was destroyed by the yellow robots' missiles. Elise held tightly onto the purple lizard and was sure that this was the end - though Espio instead landed on the rooftop of an apartment building, perfectly on his feet. As the debris of the destroyed vehicle rained down to the streets below, Espio knew the swarm of yellow-black robots was chasing after him and Elise and as such rushed for the door leading to the stairway inside of the building.
Of course, the robots' missiles still proved to be strong enough to burst through the apartment windows and walls alike - soon resulted in Espio and Elise being joined by human and anthro citizens alike, screaming and running as the robots forced their way into their rooms in their search for Elise and Espio. Not to mention setting off the fire alarm and sprinkler system due to the fact the fires from the explosions caused by them lingered.
There was little time to talk. With absolute chaos breaking out throughout the building, Espio focused completely on running with Elise to the first floor and from there out onto the streets of Soleanna's New City district. Most of the robot swarm eventually caused their own destruction due to the apartment building eventually collapsing due to the damage their missiles caused. Elise herself looked back with horror as she witnessed the building crumble in a cloud of dark grey dust. Her horror grew when at least seven surviving robots emerged from the dust and rubble to continue giving aerial chase to her and Espio.
There were Soleanna royal guardsmen, though all of them cowardly ran away along with the screaming civilians - none even seemed to consider checking if there were survivors from the building collapse.
My people...
Elise wanted to cry for any lives potentially lost in the collapse of that building, though for now there was no time to mourn.
Eventually, the seven robots that were chasing after Elise and Espio were defeated - though due to their thicker armor it was not by anything Espio himself had actually struck them with. Instead, it was through Espio outwitting them. He focused on traversing through the small alleyways that were too thin for the robots to force themselves through in bulk - due to the speeds at which they were flying they destroyed each other through crashing into one another or otherwise directly into the buildings of the city.
Only once the seventh one was finally destroyed did Espio stop, halting in the middle of a roundabout, right at the edge of when the New City actually started allowing the use of automobiles and began to become a metropolis better resembling what it becomes in the future. The two both panted as they recovered, having lost their breathes through all of the hectic insanity they had just been through.
"That should be the last of them" Espio commented as he recovered his stamina, "At least, for now."
"I hope it is the last of them, period," Elise remarked, to which Espio nodded. However, there was still work to be done for the two: namely taking Elise back to the castle. As such, Espio was quick to resume said objective:
"We still have to get you back to the palace."
"If you take me to the docks by castle town, one of the guards should summon that allows us to go to and from the castle."
"Why not use a bridge?"
"My aunt wanted to build the new castle on an island" Elise revealed to him, "She said it is a deterrent to any potential rebellion or revolution."
"I see" Espio did not linger on the thought for very long, "Well in any in case, we must be on our way before more of Eggman's army arrives."
Elise nodded, and was more than willing to take Espio's hand yet again as she was whisked away towards the doorway and tunnel to the Soleanna castle town, this time the run being rather uneventful. There were no further squads of robots sent after them, though there were many shocked and horrified pedestrians either running away from the mayhem or otherwise looking to see what precisely had gone so wrong.
Espio did not pay much mind to them however, his sole focus was getting Elise to safey.
Luckily, locating the ferry used to travel to and from the town to the castle was not hard to find. It was a simple run across at least two of the artificial islands of stone-and-mortar making up the castle town until it was visible parked by the city's docks with a large cave system leading to the Wave Ocean beach area visible in the distance behind it.
Elise could make out multiple figures on the large pleasure boat as her and Espio approached it - the same large boat she had been on during the interrupted festival though now in the light of the sun rather than the moon; those figures were none other than her prematurely aged aunt Maighread, royal press secretary Christina who now had no mask over her youthful face, a squad of at least five Soleanna royal guards including the captain Pietro, the still living Lady-in-waiting Anna, and even Ernesto - 'Ernie' - and Matteo - 'Matt' - , currently the ministers of the treasury and labor, respectively.
As Elise and Espio neared the pleasure boat, there wasn't much time to question why it was already in port. Mostly because Maighread immediately called gestured for Espio and Elise to stop in their tracks immediately before the former stepped his feet onto the boot itself, even saying to him:
"That is enough, lizard."
"Ma'am, I'm a-"
"I don't care" 'Mairie' took another puff from her cigarette, casting it's smoke into the air, "Thank you for rescuing our princess and returning her safely. Now your services are no longer needed, so you may go." - she even waved her hand, as if gesturing for Espio to leave her sight immediately.
Though he looked at the woman with severe distrust, Espio still turned to Elise and gave her a respectful bow, with Elise saying in a far more genuinely kind tone than her aunt:
"Thank you for rescuing me, Espio."
"It was an honourable duty, Lady Elise."
With those words having been exchanged, Elise joined her aunt and the others onboard the pleasure boat, while Espio walked away. Elise watched as soon enough, the castle town became further and further away with the boat's team of rowers not having any time to waste in pulling out of port and heading on their way towards the grand, opulent royal palace that rested so many miles away on its own smaller island.
Though the first few moments of the boat ride was silent save for the ambience of the waters and the jovial accordion player's music, Aunt 'Mairie' did turn from grimacing to smiling once said music was out of her personal earshot.
"Finally…"
"Aunt Mairie?" Elise asked, though when her aunt was 'forced' to look up at her suddenly the woman seemed not as pleased:
"Not you, 'dear'."
"Hm…" Elise honestly did not want to speak with her aunt anyway. Instead, she was glad when Anna approached her with more genuine happiness - leaving her aunt and her entourage to discussing things amongst themselves:
"Miss Elise, I'm so glad you are okay!" Anna and Elise even exchanged a friendly hug with one another, "But, what happened to the blue hedgehog?"
"It's a long story, I'd rather not talk about it…" that's when Elise gasped: she looked at Anna's hands and arms - noticing what appeared to be slowly healing but still fresh scars across them both. They resembled marks left by a whip or some similar instrument of punishment, and appeared to have been to Anna enough to actually inflict bleeding - though that had since dried by this point. Shocked to see this, Elise exclaimed to Anna, "What happened?!"
With a sigh and more saddened tone as she pulled her arm gently away from Elise, Anna explained:
"Madame McLoch did not take kindly to me being the one person in the country not afraid to stand up to her...she wanted to 'discipline' me once you were gone."
Elise's eyes widened with shock as she gazed upon what her aunt had done to one of the only friends she had. At first, she wanted to cry - as much as she knew she shouldn't do such a thing. What stopped her from doing so was the fact that she remembered well those words Sonic had told her many hours ago:
Nothing starts until you take action….
Turning her sadness into a form of fiery rage, Elise instead marched away from Anna and towards Mairghread, Ernie, Matt and Christina. Christina had to gesture to the regent in order to get the older woman to turn to face her not only angry but now most brave niece.
Not realizing, or not caring, why Elise was mad the aristocrat callously asked:
"Yes?"
"Aunt Mairghread-"
"Mair-"
"I don't care!" Elise almost screamed with rage, enough fury in her voice that Mairghread's own eyes widened and the entourage behind her almost stepped back in shock as Elise continued to vent her frustrations with her aunt, "Lady Mairghread of House McLoch, you have always been nothing but mean to me since the day we met when I was five! I'm the daughter of your sister, and I can see why my mother wanted to leave her homeland considering she had to put up with you all of her life! Not once have you ever even shown any sympathy or grief for her, you couldn't even be bothered to attend her or my father's funeral services! You might be my regent, you might be in charge of things while I am a minor and-or away, but that does not make you the Duchess of Soleanna! It gives you no right to threaten to have my people assasinated, and no right to torture my friends just because you want to feel more powerful than them! Once we return to the castle, I would be very happy if you rejoin the court of Lochland because you are no longer welcome in my country, and no longer will be my legal heir!"
The rowers stopped.
Everyone onboard the boat but Elise herself had their eyes widened as much as they could.
Even the gulls seemed to stop their noises, leaving only the sound of the sea's waves as ambience in the aftermath of Elise's words.
That is, until laughter broke out.
Specifically, laughter from Mairghread, Christina, Ernesto and Matteo. The rowers and members of the royal guard remained silent. Elise remained angry, though she was about as confused as Anna when Mairghread and her cohorts broke out into their fit of cackling - once more until the latter inadvertently broke out into a small fit of hoarse coughing. Upon recovering, all the amused Mairghread could respond with was more callousness:
"And how, my dear, do you plan to accomplish this goal of yours?"
"I am the Duchess of Soleanna" Elise proudly responded with her head held high, "It is completely within my legal right to dismiss you as my regent, and I'm sure the people will support my decision to relieve you from your status as heir."
"Oh really now?"
"Yes."
"Well, my dear niece, there is one detail that you are forgetting", Mairghread once more seemed to be holding back a witch-like fit of cackling as she sinisterly neared her niece. Elise remained fueled by fury in her voice as she replied:
"Like what?"
Suddenly, Elise felt a sting across her face as Mairghread's aged, boney hand slapped her hard enough to send her to the floor as the aunt coldly hissed from her yellow teeth:
"I own this country."
"Miss Elise!" Anna was about to run to Elise's side, though on Mairghread's gesture Pietro and the policemen with him drew their weapons, standard issue handguns, out on her - forcing her to immediately stop and raise her hands in fear of getting gunned down by them. Elise managed to recover nonetheless, though wasn't quite aware of the treachery as when she got up to her feet again she immediately directed her shouting to Pietro:
"Pietro! Guards!" she yelled, "Arrest this woman for assaulting the Duchess!"
Neither Pietro nor any of the guards made any response, only kept their guns aimed at Anna while their faces remained stone cold. Only Christina, Ernesto and Matteo laughed at how naive Elise proved to be. So naive she was that Mairghread had to explain it for her:
"Oh please, Elise. Your precious royal guards aren't going to help you, they're on my payroll. Have been for quite a while, actually. I could order them to kill both you and your friend right now if I wanted. There would be no witnesses. Christina could easily come up with the excuse of a robot doing it, and there would be no suspicion. If it wasn't for you being so beloved by the people, I would be the duchess already. Trust me."
Though Elise seethed with fury, there was little she could do. An immunity from the cold she did have, though not immunity to gunfire. Closing her eyes and clenching her firsts before opening them at her heartless witch of an aunt, she hissed out:
"What are you going to do, then?"
"Oh, me?" Mairghread chuckled at the thought, "I'm not going to do anything my dear! Though, I can tell you who is."
Tumblr media
Before Elise could contemplate who this other person was, said person arrived on the scene in the form of their airborne vehicle descending right beside the boat with enough gunner robots to completely surround it. Complete with a sinister laughter now forever etched into Elise's mind, Eggman only said to Elise:
"I hope you enjoyed your walk, princess, but we really must get going now" Eggman then smirked, "And to make sure you don't get any ideas this time, allow me to introduce you to a bit of a 'blue wind' of my own."
It was then that Elise, who had turned to face Eggman, was stunned by what she saw. Flying into the air from behind Eggman's vehicle and landing on the deck of the robot right between Elise and Mairghread was a robot that was far unlike the others. It was almost like a robot version of Sonic - the exact same height, though with a three-spiked head akin to Espio. It's noise was as pointed as the sharpest of knives, and the same could be said for it's clawed hands. It's body was a miniature jet engine to allow for maximum speed to keep up with Sonic himself, and it's eyes were pitch black screens, with glowing red pupils. Elise, horrified by the arrival of this silent and uncanny machine only backed away from it in horror as Eggman introduced it:
"Meet Metal Sonic, dear princess" the roboticist proudly said, "He'll be helping to make sure this incident doesn't happen again. Now seriously, do come along, I haven't got all day."
Needless to say, Elise hesitated. Between her own policemen and now the robots aiming at her, she had not the faintest idea of what was going on. Even Mairghread was via her smile seemed to be suggesting Elise give herself up to Eggman. However, all Elise uttered was directed at her treacherous monster of an aunt:
"You're working with Eggman?"
"My dear are you dense" Mairghread almost rolled her eyes as she took another puff of her cigarette, "Yes, why do you think I got that emerald off of the black market for you? You didn't seriously think that it was some 'birthday present', did you? There wasn't any other way I was going to get the man to get into contact with me!"
"He's trying to release the flames of disaster!"
"Oh please" Mairghread carelessly remarked, "You think I honestly believe any of this country's ridiculous superstitions? Perhaps I should have told you when I put the 'scepter of darkness' up for sale on the black market, would have saved you the trouble of having to figure all of this out I suppose."
You….you bitch!
Elise had plenty that she wanted to say, though Eggman was quick to interject:
"I hate to get in between family discussions, though I have quite the busy schedule - so if you don't mind…"
"I apologize for your wait, Doctor" Mairghread responded, before turning to her niece and pointing towards Eggman and his vehicle, "I suggest you take your leave, my niece. Don't make this more difficult for yourself than it has to be."
Elise did not budge however, however two of the Egg Gunners did land immediately behind her - completely preventing Anna from approaching as well as Elise from even considering escape. With that set in place, she bowed her head in defeat. She could hear Ernesto, Christina and Matteo laughing at her misfortune in hushed whispers and murmurs.
With Elise bowing her head in surrender, Eggman then directed his attention to Mairghread herself:
"Oh, and Madame McLoch" he said in the most cordial of tones, "There is a matter I need to discuss with you."
"Yes, Doctor Eggman?"
"Well" Eggman explains, "I would like a refund of sorts, for the scepter of darkness. I won't go into too much detail but will say that it appears G.U.N. has become more involved in my plans than I was anticipating. Whatever you've been doing to stop them from interfering with my capturing of Elise, it does not appear to be full-proof."
"Excuse me?"
"You do realize that my glorious creations don't pay for their own production, do you not?" Eggman snarked, "Since I've lost the scepter of darkness to G.U.N. I would greatly appreciate assurance that I will get my money back, if you please."
There was yet again a moment of silence throughout the scene as everyone awaited for the regent's answer. Even Christina nervously walked towards her mistress and spoke in a soft, somewhat frightened tone:
"Miss Mairg-"
But Mairghread put out a hand in order to swiftly silence her, before turning to the guards and saying:
"It appears our deal with Eggman is now canceled" she said to the policemen, "Dispose of these robots immediately, and I don't care if you hit the princess or not."
The police, even Pietro, for once broke from their cold, tense looks and now seemed more frightened than anything else. They were not idiots. They were well aware that these robots would not be harmed by their pathetic handgun bullets - they looked at the regent as though she was completely demented for even suggesting it. Ernesto and Matteo though, were ever the loyalists and shouted at the guards once it was apparent that they were not responding:
"You heard the regent!" Ernesto exclaimed, "Fire, you idiots!"
"Take them out now!" Matteo yelled, "Your future duchess commands it!"
"That is my line, Matt!" Mairghread growled, before turning to the arrogantly smirking Eggman and continuing to bark like an enraged dog, "How dare you! You do not get to make demands of me!"
"It appears, dear Madame McLoch, that your guards would agree with me that I can."
"No you can not!" Mairghread roared as she directed her fury at Eggman - her damaged voice making it sound even more like one, "I am Lady Mairghread of the House of McLoch! Princess of Lochland! Future Duchess of Soleanna! You are nothing more than a mad scientist who still plays with childish toys! My money has better uses than catering to you and your frivolous, insipid plans! Do you know how much plastic surgery costs? Or how about bribing those in charge of G.U.N. to say out of my plans? The only reason I wanted you was to get my niece out of the picture, but now I am in the perfect position to do without you-AGH!"
In an instant, all on the boat were shocked. In her ranting against Eggman, Mairghread had not paid attention to Metal Sonic. The robot had grown quite tired of her voice and levitated himself in the air, within an instant having grabbed her by the neck - which he proceeded to snap and fracture within a matter of minutes. The sound of her bones cracking could be heard by all on the deck. After her dead muscles relaxed and her cigarette dropped from her hands, Metal Sonic discarded Mairghread's corpse by tossing it onto the floor of the deck as though she were nothing but trash - meaningless, worthless trash.
Eggman was the only one not horrified to witness the power behind Soleanna's throne be discarded like an everyday piece of garbage - in fact he was quite elated by it:
"Good idea, Metal!" he cheered, before turning to the rest of the robots surrounding the boat, "The rest of you, follow his example! Though do not harm the duchess!"
Right before the carnage began, Ernesto and Matteo callously screamed at Pietro and the police virtually in unison:
"Hurry!"
"Kill the girl before he kills us all!" Ernesto screamed in terror.
"She's useless to him dead!" Matteo added.
Their lack of humanity was rewarded with them being among the first to perish once the Egg Gunners began firing their machine gun bullets at all on the deck - both 'Ernie' and 'Matt' dying almost immediately to bullets in the head, meeting a similar fate to Mairghread in dying as though their lives held no significance whatsoever.
They were followed by captain Pietro and the rest of the guardsmen onboard soon after. Their handgun bullets were of no effect and merely bounced off the robots, and they themselves along with all of the boat rowers were gunned down in a blood-soaked massacre as bullets promptly descended into their bodies.
Elise could only drop to her knees, holding her head as she hoped with all heart that she would not be among the growing number of corpses aboard the boat.
The two Egg Gunners behind her, following their creator's orders, turned their attention to Anna. Backing away in fear, Anna was lucky as though bullets did graze the edges of her arms and legs the shock of it was enough to send her off the side of the boat and into the waters below. She lost her glasses as she screamed though none of her injuries were fatal by any means.
The same could not be said however, for Christina. While the Egg Gunners were mowing down Ernie, Matt and the guardsmen she screamed at the top of her lungs and ran straight for Elise. Slipping right past a seemingly idle Metal Sonic, she managed to take advantage of the two robots' distraction with Anna and grab hold of Elise:
"Ah!" Elise shrieked as suddenly Christina held her as one would a hostage - the once usually quiet assistant telling her in a panicked tone:
"Shut up you fucking bitch! I'm not dying because of you!"
However, she was quite wrong. Just like her mistress, she far too late realized that Metal Sonic's position had changed. Christina did not even have time to process that the robot was behind her until she felt a sudden, piercing sting at her waistline.
It did not last long, though it did completely eliminate her ability to speak or even move.
Within moments both her top half and bottom half fell to the ground - her body having been successfully bisected by a single slash of Metal Sonic's knife-like claws. Well before the Egg Gunners had the time to turn around to kill her themselves, for that matter.
My god…
Elise could only express horrified awe at how the most powerful, yet evil, people in all of Soleanna had been taken down in mere seconds by Eggman and his machines. Christina, Ernie, Matt, Pietro and Mairghread all lay dead on the deck of the boat as though they were completely worthless - the power they once held gone about as fast as their lives. Not even Eggman wasted time dwelling on their downfall:
"Excellent work my robots! Now, let's take our friend here back to the Egg Carrier, this vacation has gone on quite long enough!"
Anna…
Elise bowed her head in surrender as Metal Sonic lifted her with his cold, metallic hands and saw to it that she was placed in the cockpit with Eggman. The robot along with the others in the squadron wasted no time in flying away at that point, Elise only looking down at her feet during yet another ride as Eggman's captive.
She could only hope that Sonic truly would find a way back to the present time in order to rescue her.
While Elise was happy when she looked over to the side of the vehicle as it ascended and left the scene of the slaughter and saw a visual of Anna swimming back to Soleanna's docks - that did not change the fact that Sonic was still sent through time.
That did not change the fact she yet again felt hopeless.
Sonic…
I hope Espio was right….

Flower Power
Karmagisa Flower Shop AU
“How do I passive-aggressively say f*** you in flower?”
Nagisa blinked. It was just an ordinary day at the flower shop he worked at; he opened the double doors and greeted his co-workers, tied his baby blue apron around his waist and started his shift. The morning was quite slow as they only had three customers: a frantic man desperately looking for an anniversary gift for his wife, a teenaged schoolgirl who wanted to cheer up her hospitalised best friend, and a young lady who was headed to her goddaughter’s birth. He was standing behind the counter, arranging the bouquet of lavender-coloured roses and alstroemeria when he walked in. Like a man on a warpath, this tall red headed stranger in a black blazer strode in like he owned the place, the sound of loud confident footsteps reverberated through the empty store as he made his way to the counter and slammed down two a thousand yen notes onto its surface, almost causing Nagisa to drop the posies of purple stock and purple statice in his hand in surprise.
“Um, excuse me?” oh right, he had a job to do.
“Oh sorry, sir,” Nagisa said, still completely perplexed by the events that had unfolded during the last minute. Why, out of all times, did Maehara decide to go to see ‘the cute barista with the most dazzling brown eyes that suck you in and most adorable antennae and beautiful smile that leaves me weak at the knees’ that worked at the coffee shop opposite them and Fuwa chose to work on her commissioned bouquet in the storage room in the back? “I just - um, excuse me - but do you think you could repeat what you just said, please?”
Mr Tall Stranger scoffed, “It’s one of my classmates’ birthday tomorrow and I positively hate the guy. He thinks that just because he got higher than me in midterms last week that he’s sooo much better than me - as if one point is such a difference. Well, the whole school positively adores him and since it’s our last year of High School, I thought it would be a kind gesture for me to put aside our differences and just give him a parting gift for the last birthday he’ll ever be able to spend with me.”
“By … giving him a floral arrangement that would be the equivalent of flipping him off?” Nagisa raised an eyebrow.
“Exactly,” the other replied brightly, “so can you do it? I swear I can pay extra if I need to. Trust me the look on Asano’s face would be worth every yen.”
“Well, I can see what I can do, sir.”
“Karma,” the young man said, “please don’t use any of that ‘sir’ business.”
“Sure, Karma.”
“Thank you, Nagisa.” If it weren’t for the fact that he was wearing a name tag, Nagisa would’ve jumped five feet in the air at the fact that Mr-Karma used his name. It certainly didn’t help that he was somewhat attractive with his sharp golden eyes, stylishly ruffled crimson locks, cocky smile and an aura that screamed confidence. Pushing down the feeling of interest that curled in his stomach and seemed to be targeted towards the other male, Nagisa put down the flowers in his hands and stated, “well, you could use geraniums, which symbolise stupidity, foxgloves, which symbolise insincerity, meadowsweet for uselessness, orange lilies for hatred and finally some yellow carnations.”
“Really,” Karma was grinning widely, placing his elbow on the countertop and resting his chin on the back of his hand, “and what do they mean.”
Nagisa smiled, “disappointment and disdain.”
Karma threw his head back and laughed (and no, the sound did not make Nagisa blush all right, no matter what those pesky store cameras said. Everyone knew that they weren’t working anyway), “that’s brilliant. You sure know your stuff, don’t you? I’m going to need to remember that for the next time I do a group project with Terasaka.”
“Consider it a gift,” Nagisa said, “I like reading and the language of flowers interested me.”
“Is that why you work here then.”
“Not really,” he didn’t know why he was explaining this all to a person he just met, but something about the dashing redhead made him feel … safe, in a way. He didn’t know why but the golden-eyed gaze captured him and drew him in and he wanted more, “I’m trying to save up for University and my own place once I graduate high school and this store pays really well for part-time work. You don’t have to know a lot about flowers to work here but I thought it would be a fun hobby to try to learn and I was curious so I taught myself all about it.”
“You must be really smart, to learn all of that,” Karma smiled, causing him to blush.
“Not really,” he replied sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck, “trust me I’m not. I’m kind of not doing well in school right now. At this rate, getting a 70 percent in maths would be nothing more than a miracle.”
Karma just hummed before saying, “I see. Well, any chance we could get started on my ‘F*** You, Asano’ birthday gift?”
“Which I assume is coming straight from the heart?”
“But of course,” Karma said solemnly, placing a hand over his heart and winking. Nagisa rolled his eyes, but the smile on his face betrayed his amusement, as he walked around the counter and began searching for the flowers required.
“So, what do you study in school?” Karma asked when Nagisa was gently pulling out a handful of coral coloured foxgloves.
“Hmm? Oh, just the usual, you know: Maths, Science, English. Oh, and also Psychology. You?”
“The same as you but Economics instead of Psychology, which, I’ve got to say is really interesting. Can you, like, read minds?”
“Unfortunately, no, I have not yet unlocked that skill,” Nagisa replied gravely with a shake of his head, “it appears that my dreams of becoming like Psyren and taking over the world by using mental waves are currently on hold.”
“‘Psyren’? Like the villain in the Sonic Ninja: A Soldier Returns comic?” Karma sounded impressed.
“You read Sonic Ninja?”
“Yeah, I got to admit I’m not too big on the movies though. The director they had for the last one was kind of terrible.”
“I thought it was alright,” Nagisa quipped back as he gathered all of the necessary plants and made his way back to the counter, “sure the special effects weren’t that great but the plot was good.”
“Eh,” Karma waved his hand down, “I still think that the villain only won because the plot called for it and not because he was necessarily skilled.”
“Are you kidding me?” Nagisa’s head was down as he wrapped the flowers but he was sure that the incredulity in his voice conveyed every emotion on his face, “he’s one of the most powerful characters in the franchise! He survived a literal nuclear bomb! He was able to create a forcefield so powerful it wiped out an entire village!”
“Yeah, but to say that he’s stronger than an entire army is just pushing it.”
“I suppose so. By the way, that would be two thousand yen, which you already gave me earlier. Would you like a card to sign?”
“Sure,” Karma shrugged, “I’ve got to show how much I mean this thoughtful gesture, you know.”
Nagisa laughed and handed him a card and pen so that Karma could write whatever it was he wanted to write.
“By the way,” Karma asked as he picked up the bouquet, “what would you suggest I get if I wanted to ask someone out?”
“Oh, umm, well. Roses are usually the go to, even if they might be a bit clichè. The best option would be to go for the person’s favourite flower but you have purple lilacs, which mean first love, pink camellias, which mean longing, and chrysanthemums, which mean long lasting love. Personally, I’d go for sunflowers, which mean loyalty and pure adoration, or forget-me-nots, which mean I’ll never forget you, but I think that that one’s pretty obvious.”
Karma hummed and nodded to himself before cheerily saying “goodbye” and leaving the store, ringing the bell as he went. Nagisa sighed and smiled.
“So what was that about?” Fuwa asked smugly from her place near the doorway of the storage room. Nagisa gasped and turned around in shock, not expecting her to be there.
“How long were you standing there?” Nagisa’s tone was accusing.
“Long enough to know that someone’s got a fan.”
“You’ve got it all wrong, he’s just a customer.”
“Mmhmm, keep telling yourself that ‘Gisa. I saw the way he was looking at you. It was pure shoujo manga with the flowers and the banter and the teasing.”
Nagisa rolled his eyes as Fuwa started to go on in another one of her tangents. He loved her, he really did, but he often wondered if she actually lived in the real world.
“What’s got her started?” Maehara asked later when he returned from his break.
“She thinks a customer is into me,” Nagisa replied, “which is stupid because I’m not really the type of guy a person asks out.”
“Ohohoho, that’s what you think, young one,” Fuwa wagged her finger, “the romantic tension between you two was so palpable I could almost taste it. And don’t deny it, you think he’s hot.”
Nagisa blushed, “I, well, I - I have eyes okay! It’s not like he’d be interested in me though. He might not even like guys that much.”
Maehara gave him a knowing look, “that’s what I thought about Isogai but guess who just got a date for next weekend?”
“Really?” Fuwa beamed and clapped her hands giddily, “Oh, you must tell me all about it.”
Nagisa just looked at his friends and sighed.
————
The next day, when Nagisa turned up at his shift in the afternoon, there was a bouquet of sunflowers and forget-me-nots lying on the countertop. With his heart beating like a drum, he fiddled with the card that was attached to the ribbon that held them in place.
Hey Nagisa,
Heard that the new Sonic Ninja movie is coming out in a week, wanna go watch it together?
Here’s my number: xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Karma
P.S: if you ever need help with maths, I’d be glad to lend some assistance ;)
P.P.S: the flowers were great!

Spelljammer Reveal Trippy New Vid, Talk ‘Abyssal Trip’
~Doomed & Stoned Debuts~
Interview by Billy Goate
Tumblr media
Cover Art by Aaron Cahill
Our week of big interviews continues as we meet up with the ethereal doom outfit from Stockholm SPELLJAMMER and premiere a new music video, from their just released second LP, dropped only weeks ago on RidingEasy Records and now the number one album on the Doom Charts.
'Abyssal Trip' (2021) is an enthralling listen from edge to center, with lavish textures, deep thematic content, and unforgettably emotive atmosphere that will stick with you for life. Enjoy it as you read the revealing conversation with Niklas Olsson (guitar, vox) and Robert Sörling (guitar) that follows as we unpack their steller new spin, talk nerdy gear shit, and contemplate humanity's fate.
And now, Doomed & Stoned is pleased to bring you the world premiere of the brand new video for that epic third track, "Among The Holy."
Give ear...
Spelljammer - Among The Holy (music video)
You guys have been a band now for damn near 15 years, maybe longer. Most bands don't make it past two years! What is the "key" to the band staying together for so long and continuing to find inspiration for creating new music?
Rob: I don’t think it’s been 15 years just yet but we are getting there, haha. None the less - that’s a really interesting question! Nik and I started the band much because we share the same taste in music, film and, well, art in general. I think that's the core keeping it all together. Also, there have been a few constellations of band members over the years, all with their own dynamic. I think these kinds of changes, and the new directions of the music because of that, is part of the inspiration. Maybe another reason is that we all live in different cities and because of that sometimes a lot of time passes between rehearsals, writing sessions and such, making us always craving for new Spelljammer jams and songs.
Nik: The craving yes. And another reason I think is the fact that we’ve never really been in a rush to get anywhere. Anything Spelljammer, the music included, takes time. If we had been set on making it, this thing probably would have fallen apart a long time ago.
Abyssal Trip by Spelljammer
How did the theme for Abyssal Trip originate?
Nik: I have always been more drawn to the feelings or emotions you get from a riff or piece of music than to any theme of a lyric. But I would say that any themes came in at the lyrics state, which is at the end of the process. But the themes aren’t that specific to any of the albums. I think I cast a pretty wide net in the beginning and stuck to it. For the next album perhaps we will venture more into unchartered waters. We’ll see.
What fascinates you about the Great Abyss of the ocean?
Nik: I totally get that the word abyss conjures up images of ocean trenches and, yes, the ocean is a fascinating and to a large extent undiscovered place. However, when I wrote that I wasn’t necessarily thinking of the ocean but more the abyss of our own minds. But I think it’s a word that evokes many things, like despair and doom, and it is of course totally open to interpretation.
Is mankind doomed or do we have time to correct our course?
Nik: I’m not as pessimistic of a person as the lyrics may suggest. I think we will be here on earth for a long time. Mankind is clever (perhaps too clever for her own good) even if there are a lot of people hell-bent on trying to screw up everything for everybody else.
Rob: Yes, and considering how ignorant and careless (some) people are acting during this pandemic, at least over here, makes you wonder if there’s any hope at all.
Nik: People are the worst. Ultimately, though, none of it matters because we’re all doomed.
Tumblr media
Have you guys seen any good movies/documentaries or read any good books lately that inspired you or otherwise challenged your thinking about life, the present, or the future?
Rob: I can’t say that I’ve seen or read anything recently that challenged me significantly, I guess I’m getting too old to be that overwhelmed haha. The film A Ghost Story though was kind of cool though because it was different, slow and weird (in a good way), and for me it’s always inspiring to read/see/hear something that makes you think, "Man, I wish I had come up with that idea”.
Nik: Absolutely! Punch Drunk Love, Moon, and Office Space are definitely movies like that. I have watched so many movies and series through this pandemic and I can’t remember any of them right now. But I did just notice that there is a season 3 of Loudermilk on HBO! If you haven’t already, see it! I’m currently reading "Homeward Bound, The Life of Paul Simon” by Peter Ames Carlin. It’s a good read about one of my favorite musicians.
For recording this album, what kind of gear did you use and what production/engineering considerations did you have to take into account?
Rob: Since we did a remote recording in the countryside we had to use whatever stuff that we could fit into a couple of cars. I have a couple of old audio interfaces that I linked for a total of 16 channels. I also have a small collection of mics (nothing fancy) and we used them all and the rest was borrowed. We set up the drums in the living room and put the guitar and bass rigs as far away as we could (the adjacent rooms) to avoid bleed and just focused on getting the rhythm tracks done. The goal was to get us all in the same room and to catch the vibe from a relaxed rehearsal kind of situation. The bass rig used was a Orange Terror Bass and an Ampeg SVT 810 and the guitar was tracked through a Reval Mark I and/or Orange TH-100 and a Orange PPC 412. Of course there’s always some unforeseen problem lurking and this time it was the electricity in the old country house.
Nik: I don’t use many effects, just a fuzz. For this one I used a Supercollider from Earthbound Audio. It is exactly what the name suggests. That’s all you need really.
The album cover is amazing! It reminds me, in some strange way, of the creature in the old B-movie Robot Monster (1953). What's the story behind the artwork?
Nik: It definitely has a B-movie vibe that I really like. I’m afraid I can’t really tell you much about it other than the artist name is Aaron Cahill and you can find his stuff on Instagram under the name nghbrs.
I filmed your first US appearance at Psycho Las Vegas in 2016. Fans want to know: do you have ambitions of returning to North America once the world sorts out this pandemic?
Rob: Yes, that’s our first and only US appearance so far and we wouldn’t mind at all returning to Vegas or any other part of the US. For now it’s really hard making any plans at all. In fact, you would think that this kind of isolation would enhance creativity, and maybe for some it does, but for us it’s actually been the most unproductive period so far for Spelljammer. So I’m hoping that by the time this thing blows over we get the inspiration back both for writing/recording new music, and in time hopefully revisiting the US!
Nik: I agree, playing at Psycho Las Vegas was a blast. I hope we get another opportunity to come back some day.

Some Buzz
“The vastness of everything is something that I think about a lot,” says Spelljammer bassist/vocalist Niklas Olsson. And it certainly shows in both the expansive, sludgy sounds and contemplative lyrics of the Stockholm, Sweden based trio. Following a 5-year break between their previous album, Ancient of Days — perhaps fittingly spent pondering said vastness — Spelljammer is back with an album that perfectly bridges the band’s earlier desert rock leanings and their later massive, slow-burning riffs.
'Abyssal Trip' (note: carefully reread that album title) takes its moniker from the perpetually dark, cold, oxygen-free zone at the bottom of the ocean. The 6-song, 44-minute album fittingly embodies that bleak realm with rumbling, oozing guitars intercut with dramatic melodic interludes. The songs take their time to unfurl, making them even more hypnotic. Likewise, the lyrics take a poetic approach to establishing the sonic scenery.
“The lyrical themes we address, like the ultimate doom of man, and the search and longing for new and better worlds, are still there,” Olsson says. “The concept of something undiscovered out there in vast emptiness is pretty much always present.”
Tumblr media
The recording process for Abyssal Trip differs from previous releases in that the band — guitarist Robert Sörling, drummer Jonatan Rimsbo and Olsson — opted to capture the performances while holed up in the mental bathysphere of a house in the countryside near Stockholm. “The songs benefitted from the relaxed environment of being away from everything,” Olsson explains. Indeed, the album sounds confident and meticulously arranged, afforded by the band’s isolation. Sörling mixed the album and it was mastered by Monolord drummer Esben Willems at Berserk Audio.
Album opener “Bellwether” begins dramatically with a very slow, nearly minute-long fade in of rumbling distortion setting the stage for heavily distorted bass and guitar plucking out the lugubrious riff for another minute and a half before the drums begin, and likewise equally as long before vocals gurgle to the surface. “Lake” abruptly shifts gears, opening with an unusually fast gallop before rupturing into thundering doom that soon drops into a clean-tone Middle Eastern melodic breakdown.
The title track serves as the album centerpiece, opening with ominous film dialogue about blood sacrifice that launches into pummeling, detuned guitars rumbling over gut-punching drums and howling vocals hearkening to the proto-sludge of Pink Floyd’s “The Nile Song.” The dynamic relents briefly for a slow building clean guitar melody before all instruments lock into a jerking riff topped off by a trilling Iommi style lead. Throughout, Abyssal Trip is, just like its title suggests, an epic tour through desolate zones which yields much to discover.

Flawsome First Meetings
EARLY RELEASE!
Hello, my darlings and WELCOME to my second multi-part fanfic, Flawsome Bandits (a Sonic the Hedgehog Movie! x Reader). I have not yet finished the second chapter of this story yet, and I’m currently trying to prewrite these chapters so I can update them along the way, but I wanted to get the first one out to all of my patient darlings as soon as possible! Please let me know what you think, the love always encourages me to write more ;) Love you all, please enjoy!
Warnings: none
♡♡♡
If you've ever had amnesia, you'd know that things seem very quick.
Little flashbacks of what you're guessing to be your backstory come back in little spurts that never last long enough and are gone too soon. They leave huge, gaping holes in your background information from what your favorite color is to who your parents were. Try your story on for size.
You were Y/n Wachowski. A sassy, quick-witted teenage girl with a love for speed and a sharp tongue. Parents? Unknown. Distant relatives? Undiscovered. Hometown? Who the fuck knows. You were sent to live with the Wachowski's as your permanent foster parents after you were discovered wandering around the woods by a couple of hikers. They said that they found you wearing a ripped and dirty jumpsuit with pastel colors that looked like it was ten times smaller than your size. When they had tried to confront you, it was almost as if you couldn't hear them, your mouth open and unspeaking. Eyes wandering, glossy and unseeing.
You couldn't remember much about your past. Most of the time it was like looking at a blank sheet of paper, ready to get into the printer but it's out of ink. After being diagnosed with a concussion and severe amnesia, you were seen as unfit to take care of yourself, so that was how you ended up with the Wachowskis. But just because you were lucky enough to have loving and patient foster parents didn't mean that you had an answer to every question they asked. You had no idea what your favorite color was, what you liked to do in your free time, or even if you were a night owl.
It was like you didn't even remember who you were. Like you had just been born, only you weren't a baby and were instead a teenager. It got incredibly lonely being a child with no memories, and the kids at school found you very creepy. But it was okay. Tom and Maddie made sure to give you as much love as was humanly possible, and when the bullying at school got to the point where they would follow you home, they switched you to homeschooling.
It appeared that you not only had no existing memories of your past, but you also had barely any idea how things on earth worked. Whenever someone mentioned examinations, vaccines, bucket lists, and even governmental agencies, you had no clue what they were talking about.
Not everyone was as patient as Tom and Maddie were, unfortunately. Most people would assume that you were kidding when you asked them what a protractor was or why people ride animals. It all seemed so strange and new to you, like Tarzan when he was visiting the human world and not the ape land he was familiar with. But out of it all, there was one thing that you became absolutely fascinated with.
Cars.
The faster, the better. You seemed to have an unchecked need for speed that tickled at your mind every time you got behind the wheel. Whenever Tom allowed it, you'd take the truck or his old squad motorcycle out for a spin in the abandoned corn fields where you could do as many tricks as you wanted without putting anyone else in danger. One of your favorites was driving backwards.
It's during one of those days where our story finally begins. The Montana sun was high up in the sky, beating down its scorching rays onto the untouched pavement. A flock of birds fled for the telephone polls in an attempt to escape from the ever increasing sound of revving coming from the abandoned corn field near Crazy Carl's traps for the supposed "Blue Devil." In the midst of the dead and crusty corn stalks, there sat a young girl on a very old squad motorcycle. Her hair fluttered gently in the slight breeze running through the air, a pair of sunglasses perched delicately atop her nose in the absence of a helmet. Before her stood a makeshift riser composed of some old wooden slabs she had "borrowed" from an old tree house a little ways south. A smirk played across her lips as she kicked up the bike's kickstand and revved the engine.
"Alright, Y/n, if you make this jump, you'll be the most famous girl in Green Hills…" Her words got lost in the wind as she took a deep breath and began to ride towards the jump, her speed increasing with every passing second. The distance began to decrease, her growing closer and closer until an abnormal electric blue blur zipped past her. Startled, she swerved, momentarily losing control of her bike as she slowed to a stop, planting her boots firmly on the ground. Chest heaving, she flipped her sunglasses up onto her forehead and slipped off of the bike, looking around the empty field to see if she hit anything.
What was that? She wondered.
Unbeknownst to her, a couple feet away from her, hidden deep within some dehydrated bushes was a royal blue hedgehog. He had been on his way back to his cave after taking a turtle for a little joy ride down the interstate when he spotted his favorite human on earth, Star Chaser. She was the most amazing girl he had ever seen, and lived with Donut Lord and Pretzel Lady. He would make it a priority to hang out with her every time she was out practicing her racing tricks, a dopey grin spreading on his face every time he saw her ecstatic smile. She just never knew he was there.
More than anything, he wished that he could get to hang out with her just once. Just for one day, spent full of speeding down the empty country roads and flying over makeshift jumps and laughing about the funny faces they made from the wind hitting their skin. But he knew better. He had to stay hidden, just like Longclaw said. Never stop running, and always stay hidden… alone.
There was something about her that just drew him to her, something familiar. He watched with caution as Star Chaser searched the field a bit more, her footfalls making satisfying crunching sounds on the long gone plants. Her beautiful e/c eyes searched the grounds before her for whatever had interrupted her practice. Finally, after she was satisfied with not having hit anything, she got back onto the cycle, flipped her sunglasses back on, and zipped away, leaving a trail of smoky exhaust in her wake.
The blue hedgehog zoomed back to his cave himself, dodging trees and bushes with expertise. The whole time he ran, he couldn't prevent his mind from wondering what life might be like if he were somehow able to live alongside the humans. If he could have a conversation with Star Chaser that didn't exist in his imagination, to maybe even discover why she seemed so familiar. What would life be like if he didn't have to hide?
♡♡♡
Just when things finally start getting familiar, the concept of moving decides to rear its ugly head in. Y/n had found out that her foster dad got a promotion, a job in another city with a higher ranking and a wider variety of donut holes to snack on. That meant that they were going to have to leave Green Hills.
But, knowing her, she shoved the grief and frustration so far down inside her until it became nonexistent. Maddie had left on a trip to see her sister, leaving Y/n and Tom alone. They had had a freak power outage the night before, leaving Tom a bit on edge. His phone kept ringing off the hook as his coworker was just a bit dependent on him, and had no idea if he should just ignore the 911 phone calls or pick them up.
“Remind me to drive by the library tomorrow,” Y/n set down her latest novel on the counter by the car keys. She watched as Tom stole a bit of frosting off of the cake and scrunched up her nose at the lack of sanitation. “I need to return this before we get fined.”
Tom nodded just as his phone began ringing. He held up a finger to his daughter and leaned against the counter, lifting up the phone to his ear as he began to talk to his wife. Y/n turned to the fridge and was trying to decide whether or not she was hungry or just bored as she did her best to not listen to them talking about the move. Just as she was about to reach for the watermelon, a loud clattering noise came from outside. Tom and Y/n exchanged an alarmed glance and quickly shuffled over to the window, childishly trying to shove each other out of the way so they could get a good look.
“Shit,” Y/n swore as she took in the knocked over trash bins sitting next to the garage.
“Watch your potty mouth,” Tom scolded, but a smile still stayed on his lips. “The racoons are back.” Y/n watched as he quickly turned towards one of the junk drawers and pulled out Maddie’s bear tranquilizer gun. She snorted.
“You better not be using my tranquilizer gun,” she heard Maddie’s voice say over the speaker. “That’s for bears.”
“Good,” Tom grinned as he loaded up the machine. “Now I know it’ll work. Y/n, stay inside.” Y/n scoffed as he hung up the phone and opened up the back door. Yes, of course she was going to stay safely inside like a crappy sidekick and miss the potential action of scaring trash pandas half to death. Grabbing an extra flashlight, she raced out after her dad to see him pressed up against the side of the shed, holding the gun and flashlight near his face. He jumped once she saddled up next to him, putting her flashlight in front of her like her own makeshift gun.
“I thought I told you to stay inside,” He narrowed his brows. To his dismay, Y/n only shrugged.
“You did. I didn’t listen,” she grinned, making it obvious that he had no other choice than to let her stay. He sighed, but nevertheless nodded. On a quick countdown from three, the two burst into the shed, waving their flashlights around like mad men.
“Green Hills PD, put your paws up!” Tom hollered. Y/n slowly made her way out from behind him, flashing her light around the empty room until it finally came to a stop. Her eyes widened in shock and her jaw nearly dropped to the floor as she tried to make sense of what exactly she was looking at. An electric blue creature wearing white gloves and tennis shoes stood before them, holding what looked like a gold wedding ring between his forefinger and thumb. She couldn’t tell what was stranger: the fact that he existed or the fact that he seemed oddly familiar. The creature’s green eyes flashed from hers to her father’s before he let out a small, nervous chuckle.
“Uhh, meow?”
Tumblr media
And then, Tom screamed. His fear and the sudden introduction of the loud noise caused Y/n to scream, too, which finally led to the little blue creature screaming. But the longer Y/n stared at it, the more she began to experience a slight hint of deja vu. She couldn’t seem to shake the feeling that she had seen this thing before.
“Wait,” she whispered, barely loud enough for her dad to hear, but the blue creature’s ears perked up. He turned his attention back to her and the second they locked eyes, the same sense of familiarity began coursing through his veins. After all of those days spent watching her from afar, how did he never notice the e/c eyes? Where had he seen them before?
Unfortunately, Tom just had to go and ruin the moment by pulling the trigger on the tranq gun.
“Dad, no!” Y/n cried, but it was already too late as the dart sank into the blue creature’s thigh. They could only watch as the animal looked down at the needle in his leg and slowly looked back up with a hurt glare.
“Ow,” he whined, his eyes already beginning to lose their concentration. Y/n was about to take a step towards the creature, but Tom wrapped his hand around her arm to stop her. The creature’s eyes floated over Tom’s shirt, zeroing in on the words that littered the old fabric. “San… Fran…sisco?” He muttered. The ring he had been holding on to loosely slipped from his fingers, and began rolling across the floor. As its velocity increased, it began expanding, deying all laws of logic as a portal overlooking the given city appeared. Y/n and Tom’s jaws dropped to the floor as they watched the creature stumble, dropping his little bag through the portal and collapsing onto the ground. Y/n’s heart ached for the poor thing as she fought to get out of her father’s grasp in order to help him.
Within seconds, the portal closed up, eliminating the slight wind that had appeared. “N-No…” The creature whimpered before finally passing out. A thick silence crossed over the three as Tom’s grip on Y/n’s arm loosened, both humans trying to figure out what the heck they just witnessed.
“What the actual fuck?” Y/n breathed.
“Language…”
♡♡♡
“Yes. Let’s shoot the poor thing and then put him in a cage,” Y/n rolled her eyes sarcastically, watching as her father poked the blue creature resting inside of their dog’s old cage. She batted at his hand, and gave him a death glare, but he just sighed.
“Come on, kid, what if he’s an alien?” Tom asked incredulously, turning back to the sleeping creature. He nudged its head with a metal spatula and sighed.
“I don’t know…” Y/n sighed, resting her head on her knuckle. I mean, she had to admit he was kind of… cute. The nostalgia that he was causing was just an added complication. There was something about his entire being that seemed eerily familiar to her, but she couldn’t for the life of her figure out why. Tom slowly withdrew something that had fallen onto the padding; an electric blue quill. The two slowly leaned closer to inspect the object, noting the little blue bolts of electricity that whizzed across its surface. It absolutely fascinated Y/n, while Tom seemed a little more apprehensive. He turned away from the cage and set it down on the counter, running a hand over his face.
“This is nuts,” he whispered. Y/n took the opportunity to get a little closer to the being, scanning his body with careful eyes. She debated reaching through the bars to touch him, but before she had a chance to, his eyes slowly popped open. Her eyes widened and she stayed perfectly still as he pushed himself up to a standing position and made his way to open the cage. Her breath catches in her throat as he finally looks up at her and gives her a small, sheepish smile, stumbling out onto the counter top. Even in the given circumstances, the only thing that the girl can think of is how absolutely adorable he is.
...wait, what?
“Star Chaser?” Y/n quickly turned her attention back to the present and furrowed her brows in confusion. Who was Star Chaser? “Donut Lord?” The blue being slurred, holding on to the cage for support. Tom swiveled around at the sound and scoffed.
“So the Blue Devil can talk. You’re not here to abduct us are you?”
“YOU abducted ME,” the Blue Devil replied defensively, pressing his hand against his chest. Y/n rolled her eyes and stepped between the two, looking the being in the eyes.
“I am very sorry for that-”
“Why are you apologizing to it?!” Tom cried, running his hands through his hair incredulously. Y/n just rolled her eyes.
“I told him to just leave you alone. But, if I may ask, who are you and why were you in our shed?” She finished. Tom facepalmed behind her while the Blue Devil did his best to concentrate his fatigue on the beautiful girl standing before him. Gosh, her eyes were pretty…
“I-I needed a safe place, and Donut Lord’s house was the only place I could think of, Star Chaser!”
“Why does he keep calling me Donut Lord?” Tom asked warily, slowly reaching for the tranq gun. Y/n quickly shot him a glare and he let out an annoyed huff. Even though he was her foster father, they acted like siblings with good-hearted and frequent quarrels.
“Because you talk to donuts,” the Blue Devil explained. “And then eat them when they get out of line.” Y/n snorted, trying her best to contain her laughter by pressing the back of her hand to her mouth. She didn’t notice the small smile that formed on the blue hedgehog’s face as Tom shrugged, nodding his head slightly.
“Fair. Why is she Star Chaser?” The Blue Devil got a distant look on his face, a small, thoughtful smile still lingering on his lips.
“I’ve watched her race out in the fields. It’s amazing how fast she can go. Sometimes I wonder if she’s trying to chase the stars out of the sky…” A soft smile slowly formed on your lips at his words. No one had ever talked about you like that before.
The distant look on his face was suddenly replaced by one with worry. His eyes began frantically glancing around the room, Y/n being able to practically see the alarms going off in his head. “Wait, where are my… Why am I still on earth? Oh no, I lost my rings!”
“Rings?” Y/n furrowed her brows in confusion. Just then, a loud rumbling sound came from outside. It had such an impact that it shook the entire house, startling the chimes that Maddie had hung up above the sink. The three looked around in confusion.
“What’s happening? Is this your mothership?” Tom began panicking, walking briskly around the table towards the window. He jabbed an accusing finger at the nervous hedgehog. “I do NOT want my daughter getting probed.”
“Dad, stop,” Y/n sighed, following him towards the window. “You’re the one who abducted him. Can’t you be just a little bit sentimental?”
“Thanks,” the hedgehog muttered just loud enough for Y/n to hear. She stood next to her foster dad at the window and peered out the glass. A giant grey vehicle that had been passing stopped and began backing up towards their driveway.
“What the hell kind of make is that?” Y/n muttered. The Blue Devil was by their side in a second and was peering through the window too. Once he caught sight of the ginormous lab van, he let out a squeak and pulled the white curtains shut.
“They’re after me!”
“Who’s after you?” Y/n questioned in concern. She got pushed behind Tom as he stood protectively in front of her, eyeing the Blue Devil suspiciously.
“And what does that have to do with us?”
“I don’t have time to explain, but you have to help me!” He pleaded. Y/n felt her heart sink for the creature, her instant gut feeling telling her that they had to help him. He was in danger, albeit he was apparently a runaway. Unfortunately, Tom had different ideas as he furiously shook his head.
“No, we don’t!”
“But Dad-”
“Y/n, enough,” Tom ended her protests sternly. He turned back to the blue hedgehog and furrowed his brows, wondering what reason he could possibly have that would need them to help him. “Why should we help you?”
“Well, my legs, which normally would be classified as legal weapons, feel like spaghetti. I need your help, please! It’s life or death.” The Blue Devil’s green eyes pleaded to Tom. Y/n slowly made her way out from behind her dad and glanced down at him. He knew exactly what to say in order to get Tom to help him, didn’t he? It was almost as if he had been there all of those times when Tom was wishing for someone to come to him in their time of need. His facade crumbled and he caved in almost instantly.
“Alright, fine. Y/n, take him up to the attic. I’ll take a look at what’s going on outside.” Tom ordered. Y/n nodded and motioned for the blue hedgehog to follow her. They quickly scampered towards the stairs, and as they began to walk quietly up the flights, Y/n noticed two things. One, Crazy Carl was right after all. The little “Blue Devil” was a lot larger than she had expected him to be, measuring up to be about half of her height. And two, the thing was having a horrific time walking. With a strangely racing heart, Y/n slowed down her pace and offered her hand to the being. He gave her a small smile and accepted it, wrapping his gloved hand around her own.
“My actual name is Y/n, by the way,” she finally spoke in an attempt to break the hurried silence. “But I like Star Chaser better.” He smiled beside her, trying to figure out why the girl before him seemed so familiar.
“I just thought it suited you. My name’s Sonic. Sonic the Hedgehog.”
“I knew you weren’t an alien,” Y/n said as she let go of his hand to pull down the ladder. She picked the hedgehog up and set him down gently inside the attic. His name kept ringing throughout her head on an endless loop, like it was supposed to bring back some big part of her life, but it always came back empty. She gave him a small smile and was about to head back down when he stopped her.
“Wait,” his dreamy green eyes were full of concern as he looked straight into Y/n’s. “Be careful.”
Y/n appreciated how genuinely concerned he was for her safety. It was a beautiful gulp of fresh air amidst all of the others who thought she was crazy or weird. At least his sincerity made the fact that he had been basically stalking her and her family for a while now a little bit less creepy. Y/n gave him a reassuring smile and closed the attic door, racing all the way back down to the main floor where she skidded to a halt by the door.
There was Tom, with some very strange looking man sporting a signature Man with the Bowler Hat mustache standing in the Y/n slowly approached her dad and watched as the man turned his attention towards her.
“Oh, I didn’t realize you had a daughter,” the man smiled creepily, sending shivers down her spine. She scrunched her nose as Tom wrapped his arm around her shoulder protectively.
“I have a name, she raised her brows skeptically. “Y/n.”
At the sound of her name, the man got a shocked look on his face, his eyes widening to the size of saucers as he stared intensely at her. Tom and Y/n exchanged confused glances before the man quickly snapped back into reality.
“Y/n…” he repeated. “Interesting. Anyways, where was I? Oh, yes,” he suddenly propelled himself towards Tom, becoming very uncomfortably close to his face. Y/n slowly sank into her father’s arm in order to back away from the strange man. “I was spitting out formulas while you were still spitting up formula.”
“I was breastfed, actually,” Tom responded, mildly weirded out. Y/n’s face contorted in disgust. What the hell was this conversation?
“Nice,” he nodded. “Rub that in my orphan face.”
“Okay,” Y/n spoke up, finally having enough as she pushed the two apart. “Listen, I have no idea who you are and why you are here, but I think you should be leaving.”
“Ooh, fiesty one,” the man nodded, narrowing his eyebrows at you to the point that the folds on his forehead nearly overlapped one another. “Doctor Robotnik, I-”
A sudden thump sounded from the kitchen, startling the man enough to make him shut up. Tom and Y/n froze, running through every possible excuse in their minds as to what that could have been that wasn’t Sonic. Y/n turned to Robotnik and offered him the best sheepish smile she could muster.
“Um… Racoons?”
Robotnik gave her a fake smile and shouldered his way into the house. Y/n and Tom scrambled to follow him, praying to god that their little blue friend wasn’t sitting on the kitchen counter. Thankfully, once they reached the kitchen, they were greeted with a friendly racoon, shoveling handfuls of celebratory cake into its mouth. Y/n breathed a small sigh of relief through her mouth.
“See? Racoons.” Tom spoke defiantly, placing his hands on his hips. Y/n began to search the room quietly for any sign of Sonic while Robotnik was preparing to leave. They had almost gotten him out the door when he stopped and backtracked. In confusion, Y/n and Tom followed his gaze and their hearts stopped.
He slowly held up the lone electric blue quill for all to see.
“Looks like I was right,” a shit-eating grin formed on his face. “Note the lack of surprise.” He pointed to his monotone expression and Y/n could already tell that she fucking hated him. She slowly began to back away from him when a floating egg shaped orb harnessing a bright red laser became very interested in Tom. Y/n’s heart raced, back growing tense as she began to hesitantly back away until Robotnik gave her a warning glare.
She wasn’t going anywhere.
“So, let’s try this again. Where. Is. It?”
“Look, man, leave her out of this. We have no idea what ‘it’ is,” Tom exclaimed, beginning to hold his hands up in surrender. Robonik simply shook his head and pushed some buttons on the gloves that he was wearing.
“I hate liars. You have five seconds to tell me where it is. Five… Four…” He began to count down, Y/n only being able to watch in horror as the white orb came ever closer to her father, the menacing light flashing. Daring someone to challenge it. Tom stared, his facade crumbling with every second that was counted down, trying desperately to find a way out. Things were looking to death when a sudden electric blue blur shot out from behind the counter and stood in front of Y/n, hands outspread in protection.
“Wait!” Sonic cried. “Don’t hurt them!”
Y/n looked down at the little hedgehog in shock, and was startled when Robotnik let out the most girlish scream anyone had ever heard come from the pipes of a man. Then Tom punched him in the face.
“Yes, go Dad!” Y/n whooped as the Doctor crumpled onto the floor, unconscious. Their victory was short lived, however, as the second she finished talking, she was dragged behind the counter by Sonic to avoid getting hit in the face by a laser beam. The three watched in horror as the Wachowski’s custom designed kitchen became destroyed by the angry red bots, shooting around with no instructions as their master was now taking a nap on the floor. Before Y/n even had the chance to ask what they should do, they noticed that Sonic was already missing. Looking frantically around the room, Tom motioned up to one of the kitchen cupboards, and sure enough, there was Sonic preparing to jump onto one of the bots that was probably scanning for their heat signatures or something equally significant. The two shook their heads rapidly, but Sonic simply gave them one of the most adorable sassy nods Y/n had ever seen. He leapt onto the robot, trying desperately to smack it as it spun around like a horse without a head.
Tumblr media
“This-was a… horrible idea!” Sonic screamed before he got flung off the robot, sailing through the air, and landing straight into Y/n’s arms. He offered her a sheepish smile, and Y/n rolled her eyes, a smile still playing across her lips. She set him down just in time to see her dad knock the bot out with a frying pan. It careened to a halt and collapsed onto the ground.
“Alright,” Y/n nodded, kicking it once with the scuff of her shoe for good measure. “Shall we get out of here?”
“Yes, please.”
♡♡♡
The three runaways were able to pull out of the driveway just as a bunch of other Men in Black vans were pulling up to the house. Tom sat behind the wheel while Sonic sported a shotgun, and Y/n crouched in the middle of the backseat with no seatbelt. Because this was living on the dark side, and on the dark side, we don’t wear seatbelts.
“Okay, so now that we aren’t running from scary doctors, what the hell is going on here?” Y/n asked, leaning forward on the console and resting her head in her hand as she turned to Sonic. He leaned his head back against the seat and sighed.
“Well, I just might have been the reason for that big power explosion… and now people after me. To make things worse, I lost my rings to a place that I’ve only ever seen on your dad’s skin tight T-shirt, and I have to make it to the Mushroom Planet or else I’m putting everyone here in danger.” He finally took in a deep gulp of air after pulling out that whole explanation in one breath. Y/n furrowed her brows in concern.
“Mushroom Planet?” Tom asked, his lips pressing into a firm line.
“You must have lost them in San Francisco,” Y/n said. Suddenly, Tom jerked the wheel to the right and pulled off to the side of the road, unlocking the doors in the process.
“Alright, get out.” Y/n and Sonic stared at him in confusion.
“I’m sorry, what?” Sonic narrowed his eyes slightly. Tom leaned forwards and opened the passenger side door for him, running a hand down his face.
“Look, this is the worst time for me to be getting into trouble with the law and my daughter doesn’t really need a track record. So, you can go off and have good luck with finding your weird little Mushroom Planet. I’ll hopefully wake up in a hospital room soon with a successful colonoscopy and a happy, totally sane teenage daughter, so goodbye.”
“What? Dad!” Y/n started to object, her blood boiling in irritation at his insensitivity. Sonic shook his head and gave her a half-hearted smile as he slipped out of the car.
“It’s okay, Y/n. Goodbye, I guess…” But instead of leaving, he just stood there. Staring. Y/n turns to stare at her father too to double the effect.
“Why aren’t you leaving?” He groaned in frustration.
“How the hell is he supposed to know where San Francisco is?” Y/n laughs, and Tom sighs in defeat, knowing that she’s right. He gives her a half-assed glare, but as usual she was refusing to back down. Sonic doesn’t notice the small smile forming on his own lips, his appreciation for this strangely familiar girl increasing with every second he spent with her.
“It’s West. Straight shot.” Tom finally tells him. Sonic nods.
“Okay. West. Cool. Cool, I’m totally cool with saying goodbye right now,” he exaggerates, swirling his gloved hands around with the hurt clearly evident on his face.
“I’m not,” Y/n grumbles, pressing her cheek against the rough leather of the driver’s seat. Before anyone could say another word, Sonic shot off in the given direction faster than the speed of sound. Y/n’s jaw drops open along with Tom’s as they look down at the spot where he once was.
“H-holy shit,” Y/n stuttered.
“D-did he just-” Tom didn’t even get to finish the sentence before Sonic came back, only this time soaking wet. He was sporting a nice fish on his head and a bunch of seaweed hanging on to his quills, which accented his sarcastic expression perfectly. Y/n tried to stifle her laughter by pouting and turning to her father as he rolled his eyes.
“So, as I crashed into the cold, dark Pacific,” Sonic began, sending a wink in Y/n’s direction. “I noticed a couple things. A, I have no idea where I’m going. B, salt water stings. And C, I shouldn’t even be on this planet right now but I am. Why? Because you shot me.” Sonic’s eyes narrowed.
“I know,” Tom sighed, turning back to the road.
“You shot me!”
“Okay, you don’t need to rub it in,” he sniffed, glancing at Y/n out of the corner of his eye. “She was there too…”
“She didn’t shoot me,” Sonic stood up for her. Y/n gave him a kind smile as he began listing off characteristics on his gloved fingers. “I’m wet, I’m cold, there’s a fish on my head, and clearly I’m not going to be able to do this on my own!” Once he finished, Y/n slowly reached out to him and pushed the fish off his head, watching as it flopped about helplessly on the ground.
“You do owe it to him,” she subtly pressed, leaning back once again in her seat. Tom stayed silent for a moment, staring firmly at the little blue hedgehog for what seemed like forever. Finally he caved and started the ignition once again.
“Fine. Get in.”
“Really?” Sonic and Y/n chimed in hopeful unison. “You’re going to help me?” He shook out his fur at such a high speed that once he finished, it poofed out like a dramaticized afro. Y/n giggled in her seat, not being able to handle how cute it was. Butterflies began to wander around in her stomach.
“I guess it is sort of my fault,” Tom hesitantly admitted.
“Actually, it’s entirely your fault,” Y/n teased. He gave her a playful shove, but snorted nonetheless. Sonic quickly climbed into the car and slammed the door shut behind him.
“Road trip!” He cheered, looking excitedly around the car. Y/n cheered along with him while still trying to shake the eerily feeling of familiarity. Tom shook his head, squeezing the steering wheel until his knuckles turned white.
“What the hell am I doing with my life?”

Scars You Can’t See - Chapter 4
Chapter title: Infiltration
Word count: about 3100 words
Author’s Note: Aaaand this is where everyone finds out that I’ve watched the first three Mission: Impossible movies.
First | Previous | Next
Shadow had learned about emotions early on during his time on ARK. Maria explained them to him as they came up- happiness, sadness, anger, fear and all the rest.
But Shadow really felt that there was no good word to describe his feelings at the moment. Everything was just...strange.
He and his friends were still trying to keep a low profile, since G.U.N. would absolutely have put out a search warrant by now. The team was planning to commit a second heist, with even larger consequences for everyone involved than the first one. They were going to do this with absolutely no backup and no supplies, equipment, or up-to-date inside knowledge.
And he was watching Rouge eat multiple pancakes drenched in syrup as though everything was completely normal.
Omega wasn’t with them, having been told to wait in the car (again). He didn’t need to eat, though, so he wasn’t too irritated this time.
Shadow had barely touched his waffles, only able to poke at them quietly with his fork. Any time he considered eating even a small piece, he would remember the mission and lose his appetite immediately. He pushed a small piece around in the sticky mock-maple syrup, staring at the golden square.
“You need to eat something, hon,” Rouge told him around a mouthful of food. “Get your strength up for the mission- don’t want your body giving out on you.”
He groaned, eyeing the food with distaste. “I know, I know…”
“Shadow. Do I have to tell you again?” she asked, her voice becoming more stern- almost parental.
The hybrid ate a forkful reluctantly, forcing himself to swallow. He barely tasted it at all, the sticky sweetness only vaguely registering.
Every few seconds, Shadow’s hand drifted to his phone, dying to turn it on and see what texts were being sent. Was Silver searching for clues accidentally left by G.U.N. in the news? Could Knuckles be drafting battle plans he knew would never be used? Was Sonic cracking jokes to lighten the mood?
Or were they even thinking about this at all?
How he wished he knew…
“Hon. Stop it.” Rouge said, dragging him out of his reverie. “I know what you’re thinking, and I’m sure they’re fine and talking about all sorts of things, including us. I promise.”
“I just hope that we got our message across and they’re being careful. At least half the members of the other teams only have a single brain cell.” Shadow muttered.
The bat laughed. “I will bet you an all-you-can-eat meal that Tails has knocked out either Sonic or Knuckles at least once, and that Silver is pitching wild conspiracy theories to Blaze while Amy tries and fails to maintain her sanity.”
Shadow smirked, before cringing as the reality of what they were about to do crashed back onto him with all the force of a tidal wave. This mission could very well be their last.
Rouge must’ve seen his expression shift, because she took his hand and smiled at him gently.  “It’s going to be fine. We’ll get the evidence, send it to a couple newspapers, get G.U.N. to finally do something about...well, everything, and then we’ll all be fine. You’ll never have to touch a gun again, we’ll never have to worry about people getting hurt, and then we can go to that movie night, alright?”
The hybrid smiled faintly, feeling his weakened resolve start to return. He was fully aware that his friends were the only reason he was maintaining his sanity at this point. He hated to burden them this way. That was why he was really looking forward to the end of this wild experience. Then they wouldn’t have to worry about him anymore.
Thankfully, before long, they were back in the car and on the way to the G.U.N. storage building, and Shadow was able to force himself to push such thoughts to the back of his mind. Now that they had begun, this kind of distraction could be downright deadly.
The team had to make a stopoff first, though. Specifically, at the uniform warehouse for G.U.N.’s main electrical repair company- the perfect excuse to get into the facility. Omega drove the sedan up to the security gate, but everyone knew to let Rouge do the talking.
“Hi there!” she said brightly. To anyone else, the bat would’ve appeared to be the picture of sincerity. Shadow knew better, though.
He had enough experience to see the calculating glint in her eyes and the steady size she held her smile at. Not meek, but not crazy either. Just outgoing enough for the guard to quickly wave them through after she offered up an apology: “So sorry, mister, we seem to have misplaced ours and we’ve got a big job coming up, you know?”
Shadow was incredibly thankful that nobody questioned the two of them as they walked through the warehouse, either. He snatched two uniforms in their sizes (hopefully) from the near-endless racks, trying to look busy while Rouge covered for both of them. Nobody ever even thought to wonder who that bat and that hedgehog were, or why they were there.
They walked out with no trouble, the two uniforms, and even a polite wave from the security guard.
The hybrid felt nothing but a small hint of relief as Omega drove their car out of the industrial area where the warehouse was. They headed down the winding dirt roads towards the G.U.N. facility, and he busied himself with struggling into his outfit. He worked his way into a navy blue jacket and loose matching pants, pulling down a company-issued baseball cap to complete the look.
Shadow glowered over at Rouge, noticing that she had completed the entire process both quickly and effortlessly, not even messing up her hair in the process.
“How in the name of chaos did you manage that?” he growled.
“What?” she asked innocently, smiling at him.
“Your hair.” he snapped.
“Oh, it’s all experience, Shadow! I’m used to quick costume changes- it comes with the job, you know.” Rouge replied pleasantly.
Shadow was certain that she enjoyed torturing him like this. He scoffed, irritated, and chose not to dignify that statement with a response. Instead, he stared at the rear view mirror and pushed his skewed quills this way and that until he was satisfied.
The team was there within the hour, parked a ways down the road. They didn’t get out, though- they just...stared at it for quite a while. The structure was situated in the middle of the fields with no other buildings for miles around. Perfect for a place people shouldn’t know existed. Shadow silently thanked the stars that Team Dark had needed a high level of clearance to do their job- and for Omega’s pride.
The facility was made of cold, dark steel, shaped like a perfect rectangle. It had no guard towers, no large, automated weapons systems, yet it still appeared incredibly large and imposing. The few guards visible were stationed at the gate and patrolling the perimeter.
It almost seemed like G.U.N. didn’t expect an attack.
The apprehension in the car was suffocating. Shadow got out first, forcing himself to move. If he didn’t, the hybrid doubted he’d be able to go through with the plan at all. “So where to now?” he asked, checking his appearance one last time in the reflection on the car door. It still didn’t look like his reflection. That was good.
“Through that big door.” Rouge said confidently, pointing it out. She’d gotten Shadow to slice two slits in her shirt, making sure her wings were available at a moment’s notice. “Then we let Omega in at the side- I’ll be the one to disable the camera.”
They walked cautiously towards the door, but there was no need for worry. The guards waved them right through. Shadow forced a small smile onto his face, despite the motion feeling incredibly fake. He had to sell it for this to work.
The moment the two got through the door, they rushed through a maintenance hall to the side door. Rouge took a deep breath and let it out quietly. “Game face, Shadow.”
He acknowledged her with a nod, pushing his thought processes fully into ‘mission mode’. He couldn’t remember exactly when he’d learned how to do this, but his suspicions were that having to steal a Chaos Emerald for a supervillain had played a pretty big role.
Rouge flew up to the camera and disconnected it from behind, with a practice that revealed her many years of experience as a thief. Omega was difficult to spot, but Shadow saw him hunched down in the long, golden grass. The robot looked both ways before blasting across the field to the opening.
Once he was inside, the three headed back towards the main corridor. “Let’s go.” Rouge whispered, her voice utterly serious.
Team Dark made their way through the halls slowly, ears (and auditory receptors) searching for any kind of noise. They made sure to avoid all the security cameras, too, moving slowly but staying out of sight.
Suddenly, the sound of footsteps made all three freeze. Low chatter reached their position, the words unintelligible but signifying danger all the same. The noise was getting closer.
And closer.
Shadow shoved Rouge and Omega roughly into a nearby supply closet and shut it silently- there wasn’t enough room for him too. He jumped up to the ceiling and clung to the ducts there, making sure to hide in one of the darkest parts. As the voices approached, he felt incredibly thankful for his strength.
The guards appeared at the end of the hallway, and he held his breath, not daring to move a muscle. They spoke loudly, utterly unaware of their secret audience.
“Ugh. I hate it when these lights short out,” one said as they walked through a dark patch of the hall.
“I know, right? This is like the third time this week.”
“...”
Shadow waited, bracing his feet further against one of the larger pipes….
“I like it better in the security room. These walking shifts suck.”
“Yeah, you can just chill and eat there. We’ve got that shift later, did ya know?”
“Oh, sweet. Then I can finally eat this sandwich. Got it off that new restaurant…”
“...”
Evidently, they were too wrapped up in their conversation to notice the hybrid’s presence in between the lights. Once the guards were long gone, all three sighed, relieved.
The next set of patrollers were much easier to avoid, thankfully. All they had to do was hide around a corner out of sight, and then it was a straight shot to the video storage rooms.
Each entered a separate room, making eye contact one last time before heading in. Shadow turned the cold handle cautiously, slipping around the corner of the doorframe and staying in the darkness. He allowed the lock to slide silently into place, looking around for security cameras. There were none...interesting. He supposed that G.U.N. didn’t want any record of what was stored here, either.
Shadow stalked amongst the shelves for a minute, but froze in place when the handle rattled and the lock clicked open. He stood utterly still, holding his breath again as the guard shone his light around the space. When they left, he remained still while they checked the other storage rooms, only letting himself move once they were gone.
The hybrid began to walk again, his face blank and cold. He scanned the shelves methodically, gaze flicking among the white plastic boxes stacked row by row. He couldn’t afford to waste a single second, so he moved quickly.
Perfect Chaos...the Master Emerald...Big the Cat?
There.
Shadow spotted the box labeled ‘ARK Files’....but it appeared that there were multiple of these. He pulled them out and onto the floor, searching for the right dates. There were tapes stretching all the way back to the construction of Space Colony ARK, in ‘39. After an agonizing minute, Shadow found the tapes from ‘51 in the third box, so he returned the other two and exited the room as silently as he came.
He tapped out the team’s special code on the wall: one, one-two, one-two-three. It was, of course, based on Omega’s series numbers.
Rouge and Omega left their rooms, and the bat smiled darkly at him once she saw the container in his arms. Good, she mouthed. Now out.
They were nearly caught as they hurried through the halls, since carrying a decent-sized box significantly limited Shadow’s maneuverability. When a pair of voices started up again, he was the one shoved in the same closet as last time, along with Omega. Rouge, too, chose to hide on the ceiling, but hooked her knees around a duct first; after all, she was a bat. Hanging on tightly to another pipe with her hands, she watched as the guards passed right underneath her with no trouble.
Nobody ever thought to look up for people hiding.
Team Dark finally made it back to the hall they’d started in, and the two ‘organics’, as Omega put it, removed their uniforms and left them in a pile on the floor. The E-series robot himself, meanwhile, added the box to his ever-growing stash of G.U.N. blackmail inside his compartment.
Shadow pushed open the door carefully and the three rushed outside. They pressed themselves against the building (or made a valiant attempt to do so in Omega’s case) to hide from any potential guards.
As they began to make their way across the tall fields of grass, Rouge’s ears flicked up. “Guards. Four o’clock. Get down.”
Shadow’s special agent training kicked in and he hit the dirt, turning his head to see Omega doing the same. One last rush of adrenaline flooded his system, his body shaking slightly with energy and almost numb at the exact same time.
He fought for control of himself despite this, refusing to give in to his exhaustion. Shadow wasn’t out of danger yet, and he couldn’t afford to let anything slide.
The guards passed by quickly, honestly, but it seemed like hours. The location of the team’s car was in the front of his mind, almost pinging as though he had a radar system inside his head. The hybrid practically felt each individual step of the two humans, even as he ached to get up and sprint away as fast as possible.
As soon as the guards were gone, all three blasted across the fields, jumped into their car, and reversed out of there at top speed.
They couldn’t return to the motel- of that everyone was certain. Shadow would have to be extremely careful about using his alias again, too, since G.U.N. would be onto them in a matter of minutes. The team was already preparing to find a new place to stay. But they had the files, and they had each other.
They were close now.
Back at G.U.N. headquarters, the commander returned from vacation to find about twenty different memos on his desk, as well as hundreds of emails demanding to know what was going on.
He sighed, looking at the mess. “What is going on?”
The words rogue agents and secrecy compromised caught his eye, making the commander sit up a little straighter in his seat. This kind of situation could be downright dangerous for the organization as a whole, depending on who the agents were and how big the breach was. He continued reading.
Agents Shadow, Rouge and Omega removed classified files from the premises and evaded capture later that day…
The commander swore under his breath, significantly more worried than before. Rogue agents were one thing, but rogue agents with superpowers and incredible resources on their side? That was another entirely. But why would they want to betray G.U.N.- he’d thought that they were committed to working on the right side of the law now!
Files stolen: Personal File on Maria Robotnik.
Oh.
He supposed that this made a little more sense. After all, the commander had acted rather rashly based on his memories of her as well. But what in the world could have set Shadow off so badly that he’d act against G.U.N.? Especially if he knew the commander’s past….
He called in a squad leader on the spot. When the middle-aged woman appeared at his desk, he looked her straight in the eyes. “I presume you’ve heard about the security breach.”
“Yes, sir.” she replied.
“I need you to send out two of our best recon agents. If Team Dark really has decided to betray us, then I need to know everything about why and what they’ll do next. Do everything you can to get some time with Sonic the Hedgehog and Miles Prower. They’re close with the team, and they might have some answers for us. Got it?”
“Understood, sir!” she said crisply, before turning to leave his office.
Once he was alone again, the commander heaved a sigh and stared at his computer screen, preparing to type out an email sending the entire organization into a Level 3 Alert. What in the name of Chaos was going on here?
If the commander had followed his subordinate, he might have begun to understand what was happening.
He was not an unjustly cruel man- for the most part. The Shadow issue had been an emotional time, and that was an anomaly. However, this violent tendency was not an anomaly in and of itself.
In the end, G.U.N. was a military organization. They did have a history of resorting to violence too quickly (Maria’s death was a glaring reminder of that for the commander). They had jurisdiction that was far wider than most would expect. And they were often called in first during uncertain situations, before any other government agency.
So when the squad leader returned to her team’s office, she told them about their mission: to get as much information as possible about Team Dark’s motivations, behaviors, and potential future movements….with full authorization, from her, to do so by any means necessary.
After all, this was a security breach, and a danger to the entire organization. It had been classified a Level 3 Alert, and was likely to go up at any moment.
They had authorization to do whatever they needed.
What could go wrong there?

The Girl Out of Time
Pairing: Bucky x Reader and Sam x Reader
Background: Willow Roffe was born and raised in Brooklyn. She lived her life as happily as she could with her two childhood best friends Bucky Barnes and Steve Rogers. When they both left her to join the military she tried to continue with life but that didn't get to happen for her for the simple fact that she meant something to James Buchanan Barnes.
Rating: Story will be overall MATURE but not every chapter. There will be strong language, talk of both mental and physical abuse, some good ole angst, and smut. There will be a warning at the beginning of the chapter when it includes smut.
Chapter 28
Tumblr media
"It's that doctor. This was all him." I said as we ran.
"How do you know?" Sam asked.
I looked over to Steve but he was concentrating on where we were going.
"I just do. It's all way too coincidental. Everything that happened led to that doctor being alone with James." I explained.
My heart was pounding furiously as we ran around a corner. Steve slowed in front of us at the sight of a body on the floor.
"Help me" a voice croaked.
Steve slowly moved closer. In the next room bodies were all over the place. What the hell happened?
"Help" the voice croaked again.
I stepped around Steve to see the doctor on the floor. A red hot rage filled me instantly.
"Get up" Steve ordered.
Before the guy had a chance I grabbed his shirt jerking him to his feet. I slammed him hard into the wall.
"Who are you? What do you want?" Steve asked harshly from beside me.
The man smiled sinisterly.
"To see an empire fall." He spat.
I didn't even get to retort when Sam was suddenly slammed into the wall next to me. I jumped turning around. Steve tried to subdue Bucky but he swung hard.
"Shit" I breathed out.
I grabbed Sam trying to help him to his feet but he was out cold. The two super soldiers moved into the next room. All thoughts of the doctor flew out of my mind as I ran to catch up with my friends. When I reached them Bucky threw Steve door the elevator shaft.
"Steve!" I shouted making Bucky turn towards me.
"What the hell are you doing?" I asked him harshly.
"Stay out of my way doll." He snapped.
He wasn't Bucky. The look in his eyes was the same one as the first time Steve and I had seen him as the Winter Soldier. Somehow the switch got flipped again.
I chased after him. I couldn't let him disappear again. He didn't know what he was doing. He needed help.
I got down into the main lobby to find James in the middle of fighting several agents. None of them stood a chance against him.
"James!" I shouted trying to get his attention.
I ran towards him just as Tony came around the corner. A sonic wave hit me making me crumbled to my knees. My ears rang from it. I covered my eyes as a bright flash filled the room. When I could see and hear again Bucky had both Sharon and Nat on him. He knocked Sharon off then grabbed Nat by the throat. He slammed her on top a table.
"You could at least recognize me." Nat said through clenched teeth.
I stumbled to my feet as T'Challa jumped out kicking Bucky in the chest. I checked on Nat quickly as the two men started to fight. She was panting from lack of oxygen but otherwise okay.
Bucky knocked off T'Challa then ran up the stairs. I moved to follow him but someone grabbed my wrist pulling me back.
"You can't help him." Tony said sharply.
"I have to try." I said softly.
Tony tightened his hold on my wrist but I could still get out of it. I ripped my hand away from him. Bucky was no longer on the stairs. I turned and ran as quickly as I could. I followed my instincts running out the side door. A few feet in front of me James was running full speed. He shoved open a heavy metal door that led to a helicopter pad. He ripped something off the door of the helicopter then opened the door. I hurried to the other side doing the same and climbing inside.
"What the hell are you doing?" James asked harshly.
"If you're leaving then so am I." I told him.
"Are you out of your mind?" He glared at me.
"Better get going before we get caught again." I stated simply.
He growled but did as I said. He started flipping switches making the copter roar to life.
"I don't understand what you're doing." He said as he started to lift us off the pad.
"I've lost you too many times already. I'll be damned if I let it happen again." I said sternly.
The metal door leading to the pad flew open as Steve ran out. His eyes locked with both mine and Bucky's. He ran full speed then jumped grabbing hold of the helicopter. With his insane strength he kept us from getting too far. When Bucky tried to get him off Steve grabbed a hold of the edge of the pad.
"He can't seriously being doing this." I said in disbelief.
Bucky tried to make him let go but ended up crashing us into the pad.
"Shit! Hold on doll!" James shouted as we went down.
I closed my eyes for only a second. When I opened them we were falling into the water. I looked over to James to see blood trickling down the window his head was laying against.
"Jamie!" I shouted right before my head went under water.
I had to kick at my door a few times to get it open. When I got to Jamie's side Steve was already there ripping the door open. I helped him pull him out then drag him up to the surface. I gasped for air as soon as I could.
"Have you lost your mind?" Steve shouted at me as we swam to the shore.
I knew he was mad but he was scared more than anything. He could have just lost both his best friends in one moment. All I had selfishly thought about was James and how I couldn't loose him again.
"You scared the absolute hell out of me Willow." He chided as we drug James out of the water.
"I'm sorry" I said softly.
I fell to my knees next to Jamie. His chest was rising and falling normally which eased my worries a bit.
"What if you got killed? Did you even stop to think about me or Sam? What would we do without you?" Steve asked as he kneeled beside me.
Tears fell down my cheeks as I looked down at James.
"I couldn't risk loosing him again." I choked out.
Steve's arms were instantly around me. I cried harder the instant my head was against his chest.
"Cap!" Sam's voice brought me back to reality.
I quickly sat up wiping my eyes. I wasn't sure I could explain to Sam why I was crying. Steve knew me well enough to know why. I was overwhelmed. Too much going on around me and in my head.
"He still breathing?" Sam asked coming to a stop in front of us.
"That's not funny." I grumbled.
I didn't give Steve a chance to do anything. I bent down picking up Bucky's unconscious body. I positioned him over my shoulders so I held one arm and one leg to keep him in place.
"Willow I can carry him." Steve chided.
"So can I." I said simply.
Steve sighed but nodded. He knew I wasn't going to let him take James from me. I followed behind the two men towards our "getaway car". I chuckled to myself at the sight of the small dark blue beetle. Sam opened the door then moved up the seat so I could sit James in the back seat. I climbed in to sit next to him. The car ride was silent but the air was tense. I knew both men wanted to say something. Most likely two completely different things.
Steve pulled the car into an old run down warehouse. I pulled James out then carried him to the other side of the room where I gently sat him against the wall.
"Sam, give me a hand." Steve said.
I watched as Steve raised up part of an old wench then nodded for Sam to do something. I stepped forward when Sam grabbed Bucky's metal arm.
"What the hell are you doing?" I questioned harshly.
"When he wakes up he could still be the Winter Soldier. It's just a safety precaution." Steve told me.
I scoffed turning away as Steve tightened it down on his friend's arm. When he was done he excused himself out of the room.
"Care to explain why you ran off like that?" Sam asked quietly.
"I didn't want us to loose track of him again." I told him.
He sighed.
"Will, you promised to be honest with me." He said in exasperation.
"How can I be honest if I don't know what the hell is going on myself?" I asked a bit harsher than I meant to.
"What does that mean?" Sam questioned.
I was the one to sigh this time.
"Ever since we found him things have started to change. The more I talk to him. The longer I'm near him I can feel every emotion I use to have coming back to the surface. They're not just memories anymore." I explained softly.
I felt so bad. I didn't understand it at first. I thought I was just caring about him more because I could remember him. In reality, every second around him brought me closer to loving him again. I didn't want to hurt Sam. He was a great guy and he'd been there for me through so much since we met but I can't stop these feelings from resurfacing.
"You're falling in love with him again aren't you?" Sam asked.
"I don't know if you'd call it falling." I muttered.
"Willow" Sam huffed.
I walked over to Sam then leaned my head against his chest. His arms wrapped around me as he rested his chin on top my head.
"Just give me some time to figure out exactly what I'm feeling. Please." I spoke into his chest.
I stepped back not paying much attention to the groaning behind me. Sam grabbed each side of my face then kissed me softly. Another groan behind me made Sam and I both turned around to see James awake and watching us with a look of either pain or disgust.

Curse of the Dark Emerald, chapter 1
Author's Notes: Hello everyone this is my first time writing for Sonic and tackling the idea of Sonic in the movie verse as a Werehog because since watching the film I think myself and a lot of others have been egging (no pun intended xD) to have a shot at this. So I hope as my first time it comes off good and not too terrible! Apologies for any story mistakes! Please enjoy and keeping it at around PG-13 rated.
...
Tom Wachowski unlocked the door to his house, his body slumped involuntarily as he entered, it was a long, and dull uneventful day. He was tired from doing the usual patrolling of Green Hill and not much happened, which was pretty typical. Ozzy, his beloved golden retriever didn’t waste time greeting his owner and stood on his back legs lurching his upper body on Tom in the form of a hug.
“Hey, Oz! Good boy!”
Ozzy manages to leave a lick of drool on his face and instantly after receiving the affection, he settles down and sits at Tom’s feet. A neon, blue line zipped behind Ozzy.
“Hey, Donut Lord! You’re back!”
A young, blue hedgehog jumps onto Tom’s chest and and embraces him into a hug, Tom could feel his quills against his head bristling. Sonic’s cheeks were blushing from the joy to see his best friend back home. Electric green eyes meet Tom’s.
“Hey, bud, good to see you.”  Tom returns the hug and gently drops Sonic to the floor.
Sonic rests his fists on his sides, “You bring anything cool back? Like some food?” Sonic makes the brightest smile at Tom.
“Sorry, bud. Not this time.” Tom chuckled at Sonic, knowing him he was thinking he’d brought home a take out meal for free.
Sonic groaned, “Aww come on! I haven’t had a chili dog in like, forever!” He folds his arms and huffs at Tom.
“Hi, Tom.”
Maddie appears and made her greeting with a peck on the cheek for Tom. “Don’t worry about him, he’s been good today.”
“Oh I’m not worried about that,” Tom took off his coat and put it on the coat hanger, ''But I’m more worried about Mr. Flash here getting too fat, for sure!” He teases.
Sonic laughs, but pauses; and he furrows his eyes, “Hey!”
“Did you take your nap, earlier, Sonic? Tom gives Sonic a pat on his head before walking past him and going into the kitchen.
“Of course I did!” Sonic rolled his eyes.
“I made some soup and breadsticks, so no hot dogs Sonic.” Maddie winked at Sonic, she knew his bribery at Tom had failed.
“Yeah, yeah ,okay.” Sonic sighed in disappointment, and took a seat at the table.
“Hey Sonic, how’re your muscles feeling?” Maddie finished bringing all the utensils for Tom and Sonic and sat down, grinning at the hedgehog.
“Really sore.” Sonic moans a little and rubs his back, “That workout was a killer yesterday, I don’t think I’ll do it again.”
Both of them laughed to each other, Maddie took her turn to tease him.
Tom smiles to himself warmly, his job may be dull at times but it was a different story here at home, which he didn’t mind. He always felt happier and lighter seeing Sonic as the new member of the household, officially welcomed after he and Maddie made him his own room in the attic. That was only a few weeks ago, and October was just around the corner. Tom and Maddie had already mentioned to Sonic about Halloween, which of course the little hedgehog was excited for, but that would be discussed later on.
Sonic was his usual chipper self, talked about his day but also made sure to let his guardians speak as well. Which he was getting better at. Tom let himself to the daily newspaper while Sonic and Maddie made small talk, turning the thin pages from time to time, reading the daily funny comics, then the weather, then he remembered he forgot to even look at the front page, the title in black, bold letters read
“Trick of the Eyes? Or the new Montana’s “Northern Lights?”
“Woah..”
Tom scans over the slightly blurred picture below the main headline, which was in color thankfully; showing that in the next town over, there were sights of odd, but dazzling green and blue rays reminiscent of the northern lights anyone was familiar with in the Northern continents, but different.
“Hey, wanna see something cool?”
Sonic’s lime-green orbs lit up at Tom, “Yeah, sure, what’s up?”
Tom folds the paper for him to see better, “Looks like you might not be the only alien thing around,” he jokes.
But the moment Sonic looked at the picture of the headline, his eyes went sharp and into a trance, he gingerly took the paper, read it over and didn’t say another word. Sonic’ss mouth hung agape a little, but made no sound.
Maddie and Tom glanced at each other, not knowing when or what to say at first, but Tom beats her to it, “Sonic? What’s the matter?”
Sonic blinked his eyes and finally made his gaze at them, “I’m okay! It really is cool, Tom.”
Sonic almost couldn't finish his sentence and was interrupted by a yawn. He shook his head to fight the sudden sleepiness.
“Are you all done with your food?” Maddie began taking dishes to the sink.
“Yep, I’m done.” Sonic gently pushed his plate away and got down, heading for his room.
Tom still kept watch on Sonic’s expression the whole time, he could tell the young hedgehog has something lingering in his mind, behind that smile. But, he thought, I’ll give him his space for now.
“Good night, Sonic!” Maddie gently shouts so she could overpower the sound of clinking dishes and running water.
“Goodnight!” Sonic makes a hasty wave at Tom and dashed to his room, opening the floor boarded door and closing it behind him.
“Ugh, I gotta..go..!”
Sonic fumbles with his words and thoughts, trying to think and properly conjure the crazy idea that he was about to do,
“That story in the paper...it felt so weird...and it's bugging me…”
Sonic tosses all his belongings that were on the floor which were just left scattered around messily, looking for the most important things to him, his brain couldn’t remember where he put them, until he checked the drawers and instantly, his pouch of Rings were there in his stash of socks.
“Cool beans, I gotcha! Now, I should...UGH I gotta go now! No no no, calm down and slow down, I can’t just go there yet…”
Sonic took a sharp breath in, and slowed his brain down to think more clearly, “I have to wait until they’re asleep. So they don’t worry.”
It was finally settled on what he had to do. While he waited for Tom and Maddie to get to bed and sleep, he made his quick preparations on what to take for this short journey to the town outside of Green Hill. Sonic looked out the upper window of his room, a near full moon glistened it’s face downwards with it’s light.
“Backpack, check. Flashlight, check.”
Sonic grabbed his Rings, took one out and held it firmly in his hand, and stashed the rest into his bigger bag. Happy with his things, he took a step towards the door,
A rustle of noises was heard outside, he whipped to see what it was from and thought he also saw a pair of red eyes peering from the same window. The years of old paranoia washed over and Sonic quickly checked outside on the roof, and he found nothing about that could be spying.
“Come on, let’s go already.” Sonic griped at himself to get going, shook his head, and went to his door, the house lights below were off and a dark staircase greeted him.
Sonic quietly tiptoed to Tom and Maddie’s room, and he was happy to find out his timing was good, they were preparing to go to sleep, but they spoke amongst themselves in their room which muffled both voices a little bit.
“He had a weird reaction to that story from  the paper, you think he’s okay?”- Maddie
“Not sure, but it might not be that big of a deal.”-Tom
A sigh was let out from one of them, though Sonic couldnt see who it was.
“You’re probably right, but I’m...a little worried.”
Tom took the covers and slipped on the bed, “I’ll admit I am a little too, but for now if Sonic wants to tell us what it is, let’s just wait.”
Sonic’s chest tightened, he felt a little guilty for what he was about to do and rethinks if telling both of them would be best, but he was happy to hear they were so concerned about him.
“Okay, Tom. I don’t want to press him either, but you’re totally right.”
They’ll be fine.
Sonic had heard just enough to put himself at ease, he heard the bedroom become silent not long after, that was the que to make his move.
He promised to himself, “I’ll be back before the sun comes up.”
Sonic went back upstairs to his room, took the golden ring in hand, tossed it and a whirl of energy and wind blows, the ring showcases a sea of green pine trees on the other side,
“Nothing wrong with a little adventure, right?” Sonic rubbed his gloves together, his nervousness had vanished with the thought of what could be on the other side, waiting for him.
He goes in and the ring closes. His room was now vacant. Until an arm pulls down the window pane on the ceiling...
A black clothed person carefully props himself to the floor, wearing red tinted goggles on his head and a black beanie to mask himself.
“Whew, close one.”
After getting his balance, the man moves his goggles up his face, Agent Stone had been following his target for the last few days. He scans the room for anything he could use to further his plans into action, the execution to start could now begin.
“What now..? Oh..?” Stone’s eyes catch onto something interesting,
A single gold ring glowed on the floor, he grinned playfully at the item, studying it.
“He used this to disappear? Hmm..”
He barely moved his fingers and the ring slips from his grasp, clumsily it falls back on the floor, opening a portal.
“Woah, what the-?” Stone stepped back, startled.
From what he could see it was the same place his target took off to, green forests of trees and he saw large footprints from where Sonic was headed.
“No time to waste, then.”
He had his mission to fulfill, and he took the jump inside the ring, and it closed from behind. Stone looked back expecting the bedroom to be there, but it wasn’t. Stone went into focus and followed Sonic’s footsteps.

Survey #301
“i was waiting for my chance to find the light”
Did you like the beach a lot more as a kid more than you do now? Why/Why not? I did. Everything was more fun as a kid. I never REALLY loved it, though, because I did and still do hate the heat and walking through sand and getting it stuck all over you. It's pretty much torture now because I have extreme difficulty walking through sand. Has there ever been a time where you just couldn't stop crying? Explain. I know I've had days many years ago when my PTSD was truly awful where I'd sob multiple times a day. What's your least favorite time of day? Why don't you like that time?Late afternoon, like around 3-4 or so. By that point I'm usually bored senseless and going downhill. Do you like your lips? Do you enjoy kissing? They're fine, ig. And I mean yeah, if I'm really into the person? Do you like any music from the American Idols? Which ones? Ngl, I don't even remember any besides Kelly Clarkson, and who the FUCK doesn't like "Breakaway." Do you like when people challenge you? If so, in what? No, I get nervous about embarrassing myself. Personally for you, is falling for someone way beyond your control? It is entirely out of my control. What's something other than a fruit that you love in milkshakes? (Ex.twix ) Mostly chocolate stuff, haha. What is your all time FAVORITE milkshake? Ever tried the Reese's Blast from Sonic? That's some A+ shit. What's the latest you've ever stayed up reading a book? No clue. When having a peanut butter & jam sandwich, what is the best kind of jam? Grape. Do you like to write poetry? Yeah, but it's been a long time since I wrote anything. I used to do it aaall the time, but now I have to be seriously motivated and dedicated to the idea. When you get mad do you cry? Absolutely. Would you ever consider modeling? No. I do think one or two model-esque photos of myself would be nice and possibly help my self-confidence, but it's not something I'm seeking out and paying for. Are you scared of crossing bridges? Not very, no. If they're kinda sketchy-looking, I might feel a tad tense, but I'm not really scared of them. Would you consider yourself clumsy? I am unfuckingbelievably clumsy. Ever bought ice cream from an ice cream truck? Yeah, sometimes Mom would let me and my sisters do that as kids when one came through our neighborhood. Have you ever had a poem or story published? No. If you had/have a kid would you ever let them get a tattoo? If they were of the appropriate age, of course. And if they were getting it done professionally and not at some party drunk with friends. They better be in a sterile environment with someone who knows what they're doing. Do you love guinea pigs? Absolutely. I had three or four as pets when I was a kid. What is the worst thing you ever did that got you grounded? Probably run away from home. Have you ever been chased by a snake? No... and this is a misconception. Snakes don't chase. They go for what they see as the safest escape route, and sometimes they identify your own chosen direction as where they wanted to head, too. Where do you wanna work? I want to be a freelance photographer. What awards have you won? A lot of "A honor roll" trophies through school, among other academic awards. I seriously don't know what happened to that intelligence. I also have dance awards and lots of childhood sports team stuff. Would you consider yourself good at taking care of kids? I don't think I am, no. I'm way too nervous and awkward around kids. I've had to babysit for my sister twice though, and Ashley told me the kids had lots of fun and had no complaints. I guess like... I can do it, I am just very, very uncomfortable taking kids under my wing. I worry about leading them in the wrong direction. How old would a guy have to be before you wouldn't date them? I don't know, it would really depend on how much I was into the person. I generally stick with the approximation of a ten year gap though being my limit, so I think maybe him being in his mid-30s would make me feel a bit too weird. Be honest, have you ever tried weed? No, but quite honestly, I'd probably try an edible. I refuse to smoke anything for my lungs' sake. I'm curious if medical marijuana would actually be beneficial for me. Has anyone ever broken up with you with a note? No, but uh... I have, lol. It's how I broke up with my "puppy-dog love" boyfriend in middle school. Literally after he asked me if I was thinking of breaking up with him, and I said no before handing him the note because I was just too scared to do it to his face. I know, that was absolutely awful. Never, ever do that to the most innocent boy ever, kids. He didn't deserve that. Do you have sensitive teeth? Kinda. What was the worst thing you ever did to get detention/suspended? I've only ever had detention once for having too many tardies to my first class of the day in high school. We'd frequently arrive to school just a few minutes late because I was fucking impossible to drag out of bed. Have you ever suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder? Yes. Do you suffer from nasal allergies? Yes. What's your favorite kind of pudding? I only really like chocolate pudding. Have you done anything really interesting lately? I guess you could consider starting a virtual partial hospitalization program "interesting." It's not the intensive version like my first was, but rather being shorter. I just really need something to get my mental health back on the tracks. What’s the latest really fun thing you’ve done? REALLY fun? Hell if I know. I don't experience "fun" a lot at all anymore... I only ever feel like, this watered down, unenthusiastic sorry excuse for it. Have you discovered any good music lately? Oh yeah, I've found lots of 3TEETH songs I'm mad into. "ULTRAnumb" by Blue Stahli is also a total bop. How about any good new television shows? No. Or perhaps some interesting books? Nothing new, no. Have you picked up a new hobby or learned a new skill? I mean, within what timespan? Nothing lately, really. Has anybody ever done your makeup for you? Yeah. Do you own any sparkly items of clothing? No. What’s the most colorful accessory you own and use? *shrug* Do you enjoy drag artists’ work? If so, name some of your favorites. Oh yes, I have wild respect for drag queens. I don't know enough of them to have a fair favorite, but I do watch Trixie Mattel on YouTube and he is a goddamn hoot. What, right now, is the best thing in your life? Um. I don't really know. Probably the fact my mother still lets my too-big-for-the-nest ass to live with her... I don't want to picture how my life would be if I didn't have her still essentially holding my hand. What’s a place you like to go to when you need to get away for a bit? I actually love car rides for this, so long as I can ride passenger and just blare my music and not talk. It's so odd, being afraid of driving but finding great freedom and comfort in just... going. Do you like apples? I love apples. Anything exciting coming up for you in the near future? I paid the deposit for my tattoo appointment, so it was officially scheduled in May!! I was expecting an open date to be kinda far with just how amazing this parlor is, so I wasn't too shocked to hear I have to wait a few months, but man I can hardly wait. When you get an account for something, what's the first username you try? Unless it's for a "professional" site, in which case I'd use my actual name, I just about without fail with use "Ozzkat," or replace the "o" with a zero if that's somehow taken. Would you be okay with a friend wanting to date one of your exes? Which ex? What kind of accent do people typically have where you're from? Southern. Does history interest you at all? Can't say it does. What's something you wish you could do-over? There are many things, man. Is your hair in layers or is it all the same length? Neither, really. The left side of my head is very short/shaved, and as the hair goes around to the right, it gets longer. There aren't "layers," though. Is there anyone who you're afraid to be in a car with, if they're driving? I wouldn't say afraid, but with my sister's road rage and serious tail-gating issue, riding with her can make me nervous. What's something you're very good at? Um, I guess creative writing. Do you like sour gummy worms? oh FUCK yeah Would you pick up a hitchhiker if they seemed harmless? No. I am way too paranoid for that shit. Would you be bothered if your boyfriend liked to bite you? Uhhh I'm going to assume you mean this in a sexual context, in which case I don't care so long as it's not in a visible spot. How often do you get the opportunity to be completely alone? The answer used to be a shitload, and seeing as I'm in my room most of the time, I still feel like that's kind of true, but since Mom's cancer diagnosis and she had to stop working, she's usually home with me. I like it that way, though. Total isolation is bad for me. Do you have a trampoline? Nah, haven't in many years. What's your favorite Pixar movie? Finding Nemo. What is the strangest thing you've been asked? Something sexual that made me extremely uncomfortable. What’s the weirdest thing about life that people just accept as normal? The fact we put so much worth into pieces of green paper. What's the most random thing you've done out of boredom? *shrug* What show did your parents not let you watch as a kid? There weren't any specific shows that we even wanted to watch that Mom forbade us to see... I mean she certainly wouldn't let my sisters and I watch something like South Park as little kids, but none of us really sought unsuitable shows out. We were all about Disney, Nick, and Animal Planet in my case. What is the most pleasurable feeling that doesn't involve anything sexual? What comes to mind first is a big hug from someone who makes you feel safe when you don't anywhere else. What was your last "oops, wrong person" moment? I'm going to assume I sent somebody a text meant for another person. I'm super careful about avoiding stuff like this because I get horribly embarrassed, so it's difficult to recall the last time I slipped up. What do you find attractive that isn't considered "normal" attraction? Having a broad imagination and drive to create. What’s the dumbest thing you’ve done drunk? N/A What's something you really enjoy, but can't have? A pet tarantula because Mom refuses to let me lmao. I'm so into them now and desperately want a Grammastola pulchra. What Wikipedia article have you recently read? I haven't read any recently. What subject should be taught at schools, but isn't? Basic adulting and financial skills. What is the worst game you've ever played? I dunno. I've played sooooo many video games throughout my life. What tragic event was coincidentally beneficial to you? My overdose because it led to an intensive partial hospitalization program that totally changed my life. What did you think was cool when you were younger that you now think isn’t? Good question... What are your favorite or most memorable lines from any movie/show? I vaguely remember the concepts of some quotes, but not well enough to recite them. None that are seriously memorable or heavy pop up in my head now. What's a good example of 'Don't knock it till you try it'? Putting peanut butter on top of waffles with syrup. It is fucking delicious. What's your go-to get pumped up song? 5FDP's cover of "Mama Said Knock You Out" is badass HYPE. What's the dumbest thing your parents have said or done? Well, through a family assessment before my current partial hospitalization could begin, I very recently learned my dad fucking did drugs before my sisters and I were born, including shit like cocaine. That was great to suddenly learn. As for my mom... probably have a kid too young? She doesn't talk very much about her eldest daughter's history with (and without) her, but I know enough to know that was a very rocky time in her life. What are some things you wish existed? Cures for countless illnesses, and I also have SUUUUUCH a yearning for some kind of technology that could copy an image in your head onto a drawing device. If only I could draw how/what I see up there... Which person shaped you the most? Jason. Or Mom. What’s the one movie you couldn’t finish? Why? Couldn't tell you; I just haven't watched enough. What's a small thing you have a big passion for? Meerkats, quite literally with "small" lmao. What change have you made recently to help the environment? I have metal straws I try to remember to bring with me if I go out to eat. What was the hardest thing you've ever had to forgive? The way Jason left. Is there anything or anyone you're angry at, that you haven't forgiven yet? I sometimes question if I truly have forgiven Jason. I lean kinda heavily towards yes, I have, I'm just bitter about it all regardless. Have you ever plotted revenge against someone? No. Have you ever done anything to get revenge against someone? I can't think of anything off the top of my head. What is the greatest longing of your heart? To feel purpose. Who was your first love? Some guy in high school who "had" to talk to me upon seeing me the first time, only to wind up wanting to hear nothing from me later on down the line. What denomination is your church (if you go)? N/A What was the first year you voted in a presidential election? This most recent election, actually. Have you ever been afraid of the world ending? I used to worry it would happen in my lifetime, but now I don't. If it ends, it ends. I ain't got much to lose nowadays. What is unfair about your life? My mental health. My financial position. I'd rather not focus on the billion shitty things going on in my life rn, so next question. Did you write love poems when you were younger? ugh Who are you jealous of and why? There's a lot of people I'm in some way envious of, honestly. Have you ever had an account of yours hacked? Yes. Thankfully nothing major happened. Have you ever been a victim of police misconduct? No.

Sonic movie 2 - A few ideas
Tumblr media
Hi, after watching the movie two times, I’ve come up with some ideas for Sequel! This time using the info from the actual movie and following from the end.
I’m going to be spoilerific here, so I'll include my ideas after the “Read more” tag and tag this post as spoilers ;-) If you are interested, you can read my previous version too :-)
Sorry, for the tag, but I really like you guys & girls & LBGT+ <3
@movie-robotnik-positivity @movie-sonic-positivity @dxrkblaze @aawesomepenguin @welcome-to-green-hills @sonicpositive
I’m aware, this isn’t good movie-script XD I think it may be too long, but I had to get this idea out <3 And it was fun to do <3
We see Sonic interact with GH’s residents like Carl or Wade. Perhaps stopping by Olive Garden to get a free bowl of spaghetti since everybody loves him. We get to see Tom on duty, and Sonic helps him (by making sure the Duck-Mom and her kids cross the street).
After the day job, they go home to eat dinner. Maddie greats them with Chilli Dogs Sonic loves so much. They are about to go eat when Ozzy bolts outside, barking. Before they can react, Tails runs into the house with Ozzy behind him.
Tail: “No, I taste bad! I swear!” (Tails ends up on the floor with Ozzy licking him)
Tom and Maddie watch in confused amusement, but Sonic trembles and yells, “No! I’m not going back!” and dashes into his room.
Tom gets Ozzy off Tails and asks for answers. Maddie watches a few steps away and gets to hold Ozzy.
Tumblr media
Tails introduce himself as Miles Prower and asks them about Sonic, and that Longclaw had sent him to find Blue Blur. Tom is suspicious given how Sonic reacted, but he and Maddie heard about Longclaw. Tom goes to Sonic’s room to talk with him and finds him curled up among balls.
Sonic ends up embarrassed and unwilling to talk, but starts talking more about his childhood trauma, and how Tails is from his home planet. He is scared Tails will take him home. Tom mentions Longclaw, and Sonic darts down.
Sonic: “Where is Longclaw? Where is she?!” he shouts while shaking with Tails. Soon, Sonic remembers his position and retreats behind Maddie like a kid. Tom joins them, and Tails, after being less dizzy, explains to them about Longclaw.
She ...
a) had raised Tails
b) was found by Tails
c) found Tails
(In either way, they turn into friends.)
Tails: “The Echidna Clan is plotting something. We’ve seen so many of them scouting the area.”
Sonic is frowning.
Tails: “You have to return with me.” Tails comes closer, and Sonic hides behind Maddie more.
Maddie: “Okay, how about this. It’s quite late, and this is all so sudden. We need time to think about this, right?”
Tumblr media
While Tails is a bit disappointed, he agrees. Sonic is glad he doesn’t need to do the decision.
a) They go to eat and are attacked by Echidnas, much like Sonic was attacked as a child. This paralyzes Sonic, who curls up and hides while the rest is powerless against the warriors. Tom gets a big punch, knocking him on the floor. Tails is also overpowered. Maddie hits one with a plate, breaking it. This Echidna punches her in the belly, knocking her unconscious. In the fray, enters Carl with his chainsaw. Echidnas’ Leader, Knuckles, calls for retreat and grabs Maddie, taking her with his fellow warriors through the portal.
b) They sit down while Maddie goes to the kitchen to get the Chilli Dogs. While there, she sees from the window a new portal and walking Echdidna, Knuckles. Thinking he is Tails’ friend (and not recognizing Echidna due to Sonic never describing them too well), she goes out inviting him inside. He knocks her down, and Ozzy starts barking. Tom follows his dog and sees how Knuckles is abducting her in panic (Knuckles was supposed to get Sonic undetected). Sonic could save her, but he is too scared to move.
Either way, Sonic, this time, tells more about his past and the attack. Tails explains those are the Echidnas, he was talking about. Tom can’t let his wife be in danger, so he wants to go to the other side of the ring (Insert Alice in Wonderland and/or Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass pun/Easter Egg).
Sonic is happy he won’t be alone and is ready to go (but he is still scared). Tom reminds him how he had beaten Dr. Robotnik, and that some mole can’t be a problem (Buckles the Mole from Ponic the Hedgehog fan comic). However, Tails first takes them to his island where Longclaw is.
(In the case of a)) Tom tells Carl to take care of their house and thank him. Also, in both cases, he calls Wade to tell him to take care of this town, and that he counts on him to keep it safe. Wade is almost tearing.

Tumblr media
Sonic’s world
Tail’s workshop is located on Mystic Ruins (from SA1), which is on a different island. Sonic is nervous to see his first mom. However, Longclaw is happy to see him, and she never blamed him for the first attack. After a bit of introduction, and Tom checking the place, they hear the story.
Echidnas are restless, and Longclaw is worried. They had attacked other islands, claiming them for themselves. They are using weird machines.
Tom: “Machines? ... Like Eggs?”
Longclaw: “Yes.”
Tom/Sonic: “No good.”
(We may get some old-time Badniks :-D)
(Also, Longclaw may be dead for some time, and Tails searched for Sonic to also fulfill her last wish to see if he was okay. So, I'm not including her in the rest of the story ;-))
------
Tumblr media
With Maddie
We go to the Echidnas’ main island - the one where Sonic was raised by Longclaw. Knuckles is in front of their Tribe Leader (From SA1, but his name is too long XD, let’s call him TR). TR is disappointed in Knuckles, who failed to bring in Sonic, and thus he won’t get a tribal mask (it means he is a full-blood warrior). He is reminded of how great his father was, and he is sent to guard Maddie in the prison set in a cave/stone-wall.
Dr. Robonik appears and has some of his usual crazy talks, not minding Maddie. Since he knows, they will come for her.
Maddie wakes up, getting up, but the cell is not enough tall, so she sits.
Maddie: “Where am I? Who are you?”
Knuckles ignores her.
Maddie keeps talking, annoying the Echidna.
Knuckles: “Keep it quiet, female!” he shouts.
Maddie is annoyed but keeps her cool. “Or what, Mole?”
Knuckles get really annoyed. “I’m not a mole!”
Maddie: “Then who are you?” -she lists some animals, getting wrong ones-
Knuckles: “I’m an Echidna!”
Maddie: “Oh.”
Maddie keeps talking, trying to understand her situation, and Knuckles ends up telling a bit more (he can slip a few things, as he is a bit naive and inexperienced). He mentions the Doctor.
Tumblr media
Maddie: “Dr. Robotnik?”
Knuckles: “Ro-but-nik?”
Maddie describes him, and Knuckles nods. The warrior quickly gets angry once more, as he isn’t supposed to talk with her. She proceeds to convince him, how cruel and selfish this person is, and that he is only using them.
Knuckles can’t help but agrees with her, as he finds the doctor weird, but he can’t go against his tribe. Maddie then asks him for at least something to eat, and the kind Echidna listens.
She uses her pin to lockpick her prison, which works to her surprise.
Maddie: And they say action movies aren't educational.
She quickly runs away with Knuckles returning a few seconds later.
Knuckles: “I don’t know what you...” He looks around with big eyes unable to grasp the situation before yelling, “Oh crab!” He lets go of the plate, finding her footprints easily and following her.
He catches up to her quickly and jumps at her. However, he has no idea, she is Pretzel Lady, In the air, she grabs his wrist and throws him away. But that proves to be a bad idea, as Knuckles ends up over the edge, grabbing the edge and hanging down above deep pit.
Maddie is terrified and rushes to pull the Echidna up. No matter what, she can’t let somebody die because of her, and it wasn’t her intention. She tries to pull him up, but the ground under her stops being solid.
-----
Tumblr media
Back to Tails.
Now everybody (I won’t count Longclaw here in case she really died) is on board of Tornado, heading for the Sonic’s Island. Tom is a bit squeezed inside, but doing fine, making a few planes jokes/puns to break the tension.
As they near the island, they are attacked by robots, recognizing Dr. Robotnik’s design (or not XD). In any case, they go for a crash landing and soon are found by Echidnas.
Sonic manages to beat them, overcoming his trauma bit by bit. Then he follows the last robot who leads him into a jungle. Tom and Tails have no chance to follow him but still do so.
Tom asks about the ground being blocky, and Tails doesn’t get why it is weird.
-----
To Sonic
He finds Dr. Robotnik and has a quick talk with him, repeating Tom’s Fun-gi joke, mentioning also his new haircut. Dr. Robotnik is furious. Echidnas attack from the bushes but can’t capture him. Dr. Robotnik then makes a holograph, showing Maddie inside the cell on the floor.
That stops Sonic, and he lets them tie him. He is then taken to the tribe.
----
Tumblr media
To Maddie
They are falling, and Maddie, out of instinct, holds Knuckles, protecting him with her own body, but they soon stop descending way too fast. She realizes they are floating, and Knuckles gets her to land safely. He is huffing on the ground, mentioning he hates heights. Before they can talk more, the ground under then vanishes, sending them into the underground complex.
There, Knuckles tries to climb back, but that proves to be risky, causing a small cave in. Maddie suggests they should find another way out and pulls out her phone (let’s say she put it in her pocket before getting kidnapped ;-)), using a flashlight.
Knuckles is spooked a bit first since they don’t have the technology, and so they are in awe in front of Dr. Robotnik, who presents himself as a superior being.
They talk a bit, and Knuckles asks why she tried to save him.
Maddie: “I just... can’t let somebody die in front of me. and I reacted without thinking.”
Knuckles is impressed since he never thought an enemy would help him. As they walk through the maze, they find old pictures left by even older Echidnas (or Bird/Owl’s people), and Knuckles figures out the story about Chaos Emeralds, who are a big legend passed down in his tribe. (At this time they can learn each other’s names)
---
Tumblr media
Back to Sonic and Dr. Robotnik
Dr. Robotnik talks about his plans, mocking Sonic, getting a lot of quills from him to power his better machines. Sonic is afraid Maddie would be in danger as Dr. Robotnik said she has a collar that would explode, and that she is hidden in a place he can’t find (but they know she is gone).
So, Sonic plays it safe as he has metallic rings around his wrists and ankles. The robots fly away, following instructions. The TL speaks too, ordering Sonic to listen to his every command. Sonic is cracking jokes as always, but he is getting nervous.
Soon, Tails and Tom make an entrance being captured. Dr. Robotnik is overjoyed, and Tom praises Dr. Robotnik’s new hair cut.
Tom: “Getting ready for a date?”
Dr. Robotnik has some snarky remarks when outside turns into hell, the robots attacking Echidnas.
Robotnik explains he has no use for them and goes away with his robots protecting him. Sonic tries to go after him, but once he moves too fast, the rings turn him into a ball, and he is unable to move.
Echidnas are trying to fight or help the injured. Tom assists them, yelling “Let’s save our problem for later!” Tails tries to do something with those rings, but Robotnik is long gone. Once the fight is over, they take time to talk.
Tails managed to take those rings off, and they are told Maddie is gone, running away from them. Sonic is scared, as this place isn't that safe for non-super-speed-hedgehogs. TL promises help in searching for Maddie. And Tails takes down the cuffs on Sonic’s limbs.
----
Tumblr media
Back to Maddie
Inside of the maze, they discover altar with a dusty gem floating above it. Knuckles is amazed, lost with words. They take a bit of the dust away, but Robotnik’s robots find them. Knuckles tries to protect Maddie but is hit. She pulls him to safety, and the robots take Master Emerald away.
Maddie gives a piggy-pack ride to (very embarrassed) Knuckles, following the robots to her best ability, finding the way out. Outside they witness Dr. Robotnik taking the gem further, but they have no chance to stop him.
She continues until they meet with the rest. After a quick briefing, they are all up-to-date, and Echidnas are willing to help them as that Gem is their lost treasure. Tails is analyzing the power-waves from the ME when the land shakes, revealing a huge water monster.
(Dr. Robotnik is in some hoover machine with the ME under it.)
Dr. Robotnik is controlling Perfect Chaos as this monster was trapped and is bound to the ME. From its body emerges a “bubble”, covering the island. Everything inside of it “freezes”. Tails opens a portal, and they head that way.
Maddie throws Knuckles to Tom, getting trapped in the bubble as her leg got stuck. They get away, but they are crushed by her loss. Tails tells them his machine had told him those trapped are still alive. So, they have a chance.
Sonic: “But how do we beat that monster?”
Knuckles proceeds to tell them about the other legend of smaller emeralds, that were scattered across 7 planets to keep them away from evil hands, and the ME was hidden on this very island.
The race to find those ChE starts, as only they can measure to ME. They visit the Mushroom Planet first, as Tails finds the signal.
This way the visit other planets from Sonic’s old map.
(I think this part can be speed-up a bit as we may not have enough time to fully visit all the worlds, but some hints of what has to come a.k.a Shadow or Silver are to be placed here.)
Once they have them, they return (using a plane) to find many islands were frozen. Sonic sees the monster and rushes to fight it. Knuckles is tasked to work with ChE to make a miracle or use their power. He tries, chanting the good old verses from SA1, but nothing is happening.
Tumblr media
Sonic meanwhile can’t keep up with Chaos, getting hit a lot, but P Chaos still can’t “freeze him”.
Sonic: “I’m a hot stuff/shot, Bubble Head!”
Sonic gets stuck inside of Chaos' body, and only his electricity is slowing down the freezing process. Dr. Robotnik gloats, dancing. Knuckles joins the fight, punching a chunk of the water out of Chaos’ body. Dr. Robotnik is surprised and yells/recreates the Skyscraper scene (I wasn't expecting that...).
Knuckles gets Sonic out of the water and gets himself stuck. Sonic is sad and angry, racing to get to Dr. Robotnik. Chaos prevents him from doing so. Tails gets closer and loses the ChE as he has to make quick dodging. The ChE falls toward Sonic, who wishes to be stronger to protect his friends, and the ChE reacts, turning him gold.
With this power, he makes a quick job of P Chaos, who is reduced to Chaos 0. Dr. Robotnik loses ME, which shatters. Dr. Robotnik then makes his escape as Sonic loses his Super Form.
They together get Knuckles, who is floating in the water and heads to the island. There they found everybody still frozen. They are losing hope when Chaos 0 appears and sucks the bubble back, returning everybody back. He is no longer aggressive as he was fried from Dr. Robotnik’s control.
Chaos 0 also gatherers the shards and makes ME whole again. The ChE are scattered once more, but only around this world. Everybody is happy and Tikal (yes, he is alive here) recognizes Chaos as an old Chao her grandma told her about (it was a story passed from many generations ago). This Chaos is old guardian who got locked inside of the ME to protect it.
Echidnas promises to keep peace and protect this place instead of ruling it since Sonic was the one who saved them. After a bit, they are ready to return home, but Knuckles bows in front of Maddie, and says, “I can’t return to my tribe until I fulfill my duty. Lady Maddie, you had saved my life more than once. Allow me to be your Guardian to repay my debt.”
She is reluctant, but she agrees, amused. So, they return and Wachowski’s house gains new inhabitants - Tails and Knuckles.
-------------
Oooof, this was so long XD But I hope this was better than my last draft. I think this one is less polished, as I had mostly idea for Maddie+Knuckles scenes and made Chaos’ one at the spot. I was also reluctant to have somebody die on the screen, so no death :-)
Hope you enjoyed :-)
PS. Sorry for the mistakes ^_^;

In the Name of Science: Chapter 3
Fandom: Sonic Movie (2020)
Rating: T for unethical experimentation, implied violence and gore, and implied torture
Summary: Tom and Maddie didn’t make it in time to rescue Sonic from Robotnik. Hopefully it’s not too late to save him now. Unfortunately, hope is hard to come by in the labs of the mad doctor himself.
Note: :(
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dr. Ivo Robotnik, M.D. Log 3
Subject has been given time to rest. Recovery appears to be more rapid than previously speculated, as subject is active and aggressive with and without scientists present. Full anatomy examination to be conducted soon.
Behavioral training has begun in earnest.
End log
……..........................................................................
Sonic comes to on a metal surface with his face smushed against cold steel. He hopes it won’t become a pattern.
With a few careful breathes he takes stock of himself. Tired, sore but not as sore as before that horrible shock. The lab is dark and quiet – well, mostly. As much as one can be with humming, blinking machines everywhere – and the hedgehog realizes he must have been out for a few hours at least. With a start he also realizes his limbs are no longer bound together.
He pulls himself up to a sitting position immediately, staring at the four silver metal rings set tight around his wrists and ankles. There’s no indication that they can attach to each other, but just to be safe he tries to keep his limbs apart as he inspects the rest of himself.
Still in the cage? Check. Still hurting from the fight and everything since? Double check. Still planning to get out of here, especially now that the Eggman and his crazy assistant aren’t around? Triple check Sunday with a cherry on top.
The teen carefully gets to his feet, grateful for the returned movement, and notices two new additions to his little prison. They look like giant bottles hanging upside down the front mesh of the cage, with thin nozzles sticking through to the inside. Sonic warily edges near them, pausing after each step to see if it’s some awful trap the scientist has set for him. Nothing happens even as he gets close enough to touch them. With a little more hesitation he reaches out and taps the end of one nozzle. His glove comes back wet.
“Uh…?” He rubs his thumb against the damp spot, puzzled, then turns to the other bottle. A quick touch finds the tip of his finger stained in something green-brown and mushy.
Sonic sniffs it gingerly. It’s got a weird, almost oatmeal smell that he only recognizes cause the town hosted a big breakfast event one summer day and he gorged himself from the food line every time people’s backs were turned. The hedgehog realizes with disgust that it’s supposed to be food, that these bottles are meant to feed and water him like some kind of pet.
He smacks the mesh angrily but they don’t budge, so then he starts pushing and pulling at the nozzles, hoping to dislodge them or break them or do something at least. They rattle in mockery, making the teen even more upset.
Dropping to his back, Sonic lifts his feet up in a biker position and kicks the two spigots hard. Something responds with a loud creak, so he kicks again, and again, until finally the water bottle flies clean off its hinges and falls to the ground in a crash of metal and water. The hedgehog freezes, suddenly nervous instead of indignant. His ears swivel every direction in case Robotnik or a robot appears out of nowhere to hurt him. He’s barely breathing.
As the seconds turn into a minute or more without anything happening, Sonic lets out a slow puff of air and rubs his face.
“Great, Sonic, just great. Way to cause a mess you can’t explain away. Do you want the deranged lunatic to shock you again or do you just enjoy his company? – No, don’t answer that, it’s rhetorical. I know it’s rhetorical, I’m not an idiot! Clearly you are if you’re doing stupid stuff like this!”
He gestures to the mess on the floor, and it’s only then that he realizes he’s started pacing. The teen stops himself, pressing a palm to his forehead.
“Okay so obviously I need a little self-control here if I’m gonna find a way out. Wait, did that make a weakness in the cage?”
Sonic pats the mesh where the bottle used to sit. He makes a loud noise in frustration as it’s obvious the screen won’t budge.
“So that’s a bust. Busted plan, not busted cage or I’d be out of here by now. Okay, hmm…”
His eyes drift to the other bottle and his stomach gurgles. He can’t remember the last time he’s eaten. Probably with Tom. The thought of the human sends something sharp through his chest that he has to stuff down real fast. Now isn’t the time for that.
Instead, he experimentally lays back down and lifts his feet again. With only a moment of hesitation, he jams them against the other nozzle. Forget his hunger. Forget getting in trouble. If he can weaken the wall now and get out, none of it will matter anyway.
It takes a few more kicks than last time to knock this bottle loose – probably because he’s not running on outrage anymore – but soon it joins its duplicate in a loud clatter. Sonic grimaces at the sound but hops up to test the mesh again.
Still nothing.
Frustrated with a growing sense of panic, the teen gets back down and starts kicking directly at the metal wiring. It barely yields, only giving Sonic a horrible backlash of vibrations through his feet for the effort. A growl sticks in his throat as he tries again.
It’s a long time before he’s too exhausted to kick anymore.
……..........................................................................
Robotnik sits at his personal desk with five monitors up. Two of them are running comparative analyses on the quill and blood samples he’s obtained. The third has diagrams of all seventeen different hedgehog species and their anatomies. The fourth is a series of videos of animal trainers offering tips for more rowdy animals, as well as accounts of former human psychological techniques meant to restrain and subdue, usually in old asylums and prisons.
The last monitor is video feed of the alien hedgehog himself, and everything he’s been getting up to.
He had been in and out of consciousness for the first four hours after Robotnik had departed, as the heart rate monitor in his wrist restraints indicated. Most likely his body had been overwhelmed by the stress and had forced a recovery shut down. Then he’d woken up completely at nearly 3 pm.
And what a ruckus he’s created since then.
The scientist strokes his mustache, attention entirely on the video feed for the time being. After breaking off the nutrient feeders (an unnecessary cry for attention, if you ask the doctor) the little creature had pounded at the front of the cage for nearly twenty minutes. He’d dropped flat on his back for a while, panting like a dog, before getting to his feet and running in a circle within one side of the pen.
Whether he’d been planning to try and break through the metal with his body’s speed alone or some other ridiculous plan, it didn’t matter in the end. Because Robotnik had coded those restraints to record velocity, and once they reached a certain threshold their magnetic fields would respond.
This was demonstrated directly when the hedgehog’s ankles were pulled together and he crashed into the far wall. It was a remarkable impact, all things considered.
That was about two minutes ago. Now the man watches as the restraints are deactivated, leaving the alien still half-laying where he hit the ground but definitely aware of the change, if his flicking ears are anything to go by.
“Doctor, I have the items you requested.” Stone’s voice calls confidently from behind.
Robotnik takes one more moment to marvel this creature’s candid personality and behavior, from his position as a hidden observer. Then he leans back in the chair until he’s practically horizontal with his head upside down. He meets his assistant’s gaze.
“Fantastic. Let’s not waste any more time.”
He swivels around and rocks forward out of the chair, his momentum pushing him to his feet and up into Stone’s personal space. He holds his hand out expectantly and the other man obliges, dropping the objects into his open palm. A quick glance tells the scientist they’re exactly as specified.
Without another word the doctor heads down to the main laboratory. He notes with glee how the hedgehog scrambles to attention when he enters the room.
“You’re looking much healthier this afternoon,” he comments, already seeing improvement in the creature’s posture and stance. Then he pretends to notice the broken nutrient feeders for the first time. “Well. Much more active too apparently.”
Sonic tenses. There’s a slight dilation in his pupils that the man almost smiles at – a fear response already, good news. But then he crosses his arms and lifts his chin, still too defiant.
“Yeah? You gotta p-problem with that? It’s just how I roll.”
“On the contrary, I’m delighted by it.”
“What?” The alien’s arms almost drop in his bewilderment. Robotnik tilts his head and purrs.
“Well of course. I want to see what makes you tick, and your behavior is part of that. Not to mention that stunning energy you’ve displayed. I cannot wait to harness it to its fullest potential.”
He watches the way his subject’s mouth works, every twitch of confusion and revulsion and beautiful intelligence. Not on par with him of course, nothing in the universe will ever reach that level, but there’s something so thrilling about interacting with a lifeform from beyond Earth that has given him a literal run for his money.
It’s on this thought that he brings the objects in his hands out in the open. The hedgehog’s eyes lock on to them with the most wide, alarmed expression he’s shown thus far, which is honestly quite the accomplishment given the last half-day.
“I take it you know what these are.”
The alien swallows, and his hands are clenched tight. He doesn’t respond.
“Tell me what you think these are.” It’s an order, the first of many planned.
Sonic takes a deep breath and points at the item in the scientist’s left hand. His arm stays close to his body. “That’s a….that’s a collar.”
“So it is.”
He turns the thing over, letting his subject get a good look at it. The collar is black with the Robotnik logo splashed across in red. Most notable however, is the fairly large black box attached to the center of it, as well as the shiny set of silver dog tags dangling just under them. One finger taps the box.
“Do you know what this does?”
The hedgehog shakes his head. He’s looking rather pale now.
“It’s designed to administer a shock under certain circumstances, the parameters of which will be decided by me. No doubt you remember the one you received earlier today.”
His ears flatten. Robotnik smiles.
“Do you recognize the other object?”
The doctor wiggles his right hand, drawing Sonic’s attention there. He starts trembling just a bit as he stares.
“It’s – that’s a, that’s…” The alien trails off, either struggling to remember the word or not wanting to verbalize it.
“What’s the matter, cat got your tongue? Feeling stifled? Gagged, maybe?” He lifts the other item under two fingers, giving it a little shake as part of the joke. “Remember when I told you I expected nothing out of your mouth unless it’s a response to a direct question? We’re going to practice that.”
Robotnik outright revels in the sudden retreat his subject tries to make from the muzzle in the man’s hand, backing up against the far side of his pen like distance alone will have an effect.
“No…” He whispers. There’s something very vulnerable in his voice, something that goes beyond the idea of physical restraint. “No, no no no.”
“Save your heart-wrenching pleas for someone who has one.” The doctor says coldly, already pressing a few buttons to activate the hedgehog’s magnetic bonds.
Sonic’s wrists come together, as do his ankles, and he loses his balance immediately. He hits the ground on his left side but doesn’t stop struggling to shimmy away nor cease his begging.
“You know, perhaps I would’ve considered only using the collar for the time being, but then you had to be an absolute brat and destroy perfectly functional equipment. Act like an animal, I’ll treat you like an animal. Only fair don’t you think?”
Robotnik makes an irritated noise as his gloating is met with an increased volume of ‘no’ being repeated like a protective mantra. Not that he doesn’t love the groveling, but really. Gloating’s only fun when someone can appreciate it. He sighs and sends a few drones into the cage’s ceiling hatch.
The little hedgehog sees them coming and does the only thing he has left – he curls into a ball, every quill straightened up to create a deadly sphere. It doesn’t help much when the drones hover near enough for his restraints to yank his limbs out into the open, attaching themselves to the robots against all his best efforts.
He’s screaming now.
The robots drag him halfway out of the hatch, leaving his legs dangling in the cage. As Robotnik approaches he can see tears forming in Sonic’s eyes. It gives the scientist pause.
“You are…remarkably impacted by the concept of this. I wonder.” He transfers the muzzle and collar to one hand. The other hand shoots out to grab the teen’s snout, causing him to freeze in shock. “What about it frightens you so? Is it the further loss of body autonomy, or something else?”
His subject’s gaze scatters away from Robotnik’s face for a moment before coming back just as pitifully.
“Please,” he’s back to whispering. “Please, don’t. Please.”
The doctor leans in close, letting the hedgehog feel his breath on his fur and see the utter contempt in his own eyes. He holds him like that for a long moment, and Sonic visibly shudders at it all.
“You don’t get the privilege of begging anymore.”
Sonic’s pupils blow wide. He opens his mouth to scream.
“NO–”
Robotnik jams the muzzle against his face, pressing cold metal into his cheeks and cutting off the wail so fast it leaves eerie silence in its wake. His drones make short work of pulling the Kevlar straps through razer-sharp quills to fasten together where the organic scientist cannot reach. The collar comes next and is almost harder simply because of how much the alien is thrashing.
But it’s soon secured as well, leaving a shaking, near-sobbing teen with his arms stretched above his head and his head still held by his captor. Robotnik drums his fingers against the metal wrapped around Sonic’s face, causing a harsh flinch each time.
“I think this looks quite fetching. Perhaps I should consider keeping it on even outside of training.”
The hedgehog closes his eyes with a whine. The man strokes his mustache.
“Mm, but perhaps not. It all depends on your behavior from here on out.” He checks the time. “For now though, I’d say the rest of the day should be enough to teach you the meaning of the word ‘silence’. What do you think?”
Sonic shakes his head.
“Rest of the day it is! Oh, and let’s not forget to get your sustenance feeders back up, hmm? I’m sure it will be much more difficult to eat and drink like this, but I’m sure you’ll figure something out with that clever little mind of yours.”
A flick of his wrist and the drones drop Sonic back into his pen. The teen scrambles away from the front, into the far corner on the bed side.
“I don’t trust you not to try and take off the extra accessories prematurely either, so your restraints will remain active for a while yet. Not that it matters, because if I find out you tried to break anything else – the feeders, the muzzle, the collar, anything – then the shock I gave you earlier will feel like a tickle. Got that through your thick skull?”
Robotnik waits until he gets a slow, defeated nod before turning away. Something tells him the quill and blood sample analysis is complete, and he doesn’t want to miss a single detail.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A/N: Hey guys, sorry it took so long. With everything going on right now I went to stay with family, and it has been a lot harder to get time to write around family than I thought ehehe. Hopefully the longer chapter makes up for it.
Also, sorry if Sonic seems OOC for this one, but I was thinking a lot about how his second greatest weapon after his speed is his motor mouth. This lad uses it to fill the void when no one else is there, and I'd imagine (at least for Movie Sonic) that losing that ability is just as terrifying as losing his speed.
On a technical note, I've decided to keep the focus on Sonic for this fic, and not Tom and Maddie. The original plan was to show them working to find him, but that wasn't working out so well in the end, so it's gonna be pain train all the way through.

A Room Full of Vampires
A Drawfee Fanfiction
John’s sister was the lamest best friend he ever had.
They had planned to go to the movies for a week now, after months of John begging her to go with him. She only caved because this double feature landed on his birthday, and he promised she’d get out of buying him a gift if she went.
Cheapskate she was, Ava readily agreed.
For the past few days, he’d been so excited about it. He planned on going all out at the snack bar, he’d bring a blanket, the works. It would be like when they were kids and they used to watch movies in blanket forts when their parents went on dates.
Considering John’s birthday last year was the worst thing that happened to him, he deserved to have some serious nostalgic fun on this one.
But that morning, when he woke up to only one text, all it said was a weak apology that she couldn’t make it because her boyfriend had a work event. Then about twenty minutes later she added a proper, “Happy Birthday”.
Cool. First birthday single in ten years and not even his sister wanted to spend the day with him. It was fine.
Totally fine.
However, when it was 7 pm and John hadn’t left his house and had totally demolished a pint of red velvet ice cream, he concluded that maybe it wasn’t fine.
By the time the first movie of his fantasized double feature was almost over, John was pretty damn sick of staring down the liter of Mountain Dew and feeling sorry for himself. He looked in the mirror. Sure his hair was a mess and he still was wearing yesterday’s clothes, but he was a perfectly capable 26-year-old man. If he wanted to go to the movies on his birthday, he could go all by himself, dammit.
Feeling a surge of self-confidence (possibly fueled by his energy drink overdose) he vibed with the electricity running under his skin. That’s right. He was an averagely attractive, somewhat active, not dead human. He could go out and do anything!
Granted, he couldn’t fly. He caught himself a taxi the second he got outside. He wasn’t an animal.
When he reached the theater, the box office was derelict, save an arguing couple buying tickets. In the dark night, the platinum blonde, with arguably fabulous long hair, glistened under the bright lights. The duo looked a lot fancier than him, but sometimes people cosplayed to the theaters, so that’s what he figured was going on. Since the second feature was Cats, maybe they just really liked musicals and wanted to get their Phantom of the Opera on. He just sorta shrugged it off and waited for them to be done.
But their bickering was pretty interesting. “Bertrand, we were supposed to go to an elaborate dinner tonight. But instead, you stayed at work late, missed our reservations, and you’re trying to make it up to me by taking me to a half-finished theater event? I’m not a dog, your scraps aren’t enough for me.”
“Bastian, I am trying to make it up to you. You love Cats. You’ve always loved Cats. You loved Cats before it even was on Broadway. This should be a fun substitute.”
“Well, maybe I wanted to see Sonic the Hedgedog, too.”
“It’s hedgehog, love.”
“Whatever.” The blonde, named Bastian, crossed his arms and stared at the movie posters, waiting for Bertrand to finish paying.
While John loved himself a good drama, the awkwardness of hearing a couple argue also made him want to shrivel up inside and die. On a normal day, that would’ve been enough to make him go home.
But not today.
Today was his birthday and he was going to see a movie, dammit.
After the way-too-fashionable men walked away, John walked up to the dead-eyed teenager. “One for the double feature.”
“What is up with you people, coming half-way through the show?”
He didn’t mean to, but John bristled from the inside out. Caffeine rage was no joke. “I am an adult and I live my life in a way that makes me happy. I look like a happy man, don’t I?”
“I don’t think I wanna answer that.” Handing over his tickets, the teen grimaced. “Enjoy the show, dude.”
John didn’t mean to get so rattled, so he gave the guy an awkward wave and hoped that he never met him again.
Okay, all the chaos had to be over now. He was going to walk into that theater, enjoy this damned movie, and prove that he was perfectly fine on his own. He didn’t need Ava or Stacy or anyone to make his birthday a good one. He was a 26-year-old man and--
Just as John pushed the doors to the theater open, he saw the couple from before standing in front of all the aisles, accompanied by two other oddly dressed men, four children, a bat, and a dog with...Wings?
Though John had been pumping his arms pretty intently, a man on a mission, he stopped dead.
All the way down the aisles, Bertrand said, “So that’s why I knew this double feature was happening.”
Behind the kids, the guy with a big cloak threw open his arms and yelled, “Boo!” They all jumped and squealed, but then threw themselves into his arms.
By all accounts, that should’ve been more than enough for John to leave. There was also a fair shot that, unless he was absolutely losing his mind, he might’ve just walked into a roomful of vampires. Or vampire cosplayers, at the very least, which wouldn’t be the strangest thing he walked in on. After all, nothing would ever beat Stacy getting bent over by a guy in a Teletubby costume.
He still had no clue what the guy’s face even looked like.
Cringing, John instead focused on watching the bizarre, but obviously happy family banter, hug, and bicker. Even the angry couple still obviously was very much in love with each other. Though he could hear Bastian’s petty comments all the way up the stairs, the guy kept making sure Bertrand never stepped on his own cloak. It was horribly sweet, even if it made him feel so much more alone.
Sitting down, he accepted that his night couldn’t get any weirder, so he might as well accept it.
The parents of the kids walked over to Bertrand and Bastian. The one who looked like he got hair tips from Doc Brown was patting Bertrand on the head. “So happy to have my older brother show up to our family outing!”
“It wasn’t on purpose, Victor.”
The shorter, more cartoonish guy shrugged. “Either way, Valentino and I are happy to see you. And so are the kids! Desdemona has been dying to see her “shiny-headed uncle”.”
“Balding is a completely natural part of the male aging process. I just unfortunately got stuck in the middle of it.”
Just as Victor opened his mouth, the lights dimmed. “Ooh! Time for the movie to start. Sit with us!”
Bastian patted Bertrand’s shoulder and he did this deep sigh, but he did it with such ease that it must be muscle memory from years of annoyance. John remembered when he and Ava used to have tics like that. They texted every other day, but the last time he saw her in person had to be months ago.
He didn’t even know what color her hair was right now. Knowing her, it probably changed a few times since the purple he saw last.
Even though Cats started up, and the CGI was a disturbing kind of mesmerizing, John couldn’t keep his eyes off the family in the first few rows. The way Bastian and Bertrand held each other’s sleeves was endearing. The little girl next to Bertrand kept leaning over and asking him questions, but no matter how tense he looked, it seemed like he always answered them. And while he didn’t quite understand what was happening, the one named Valentino held the tiny bat like it was a sweet, sleepy toddler.
His chest started to hurt, looking at them, but he also couldn’t look away. Vampire cosplayers or whatever, they were family. It made his own fingers feel so cold, so empty and killed his Mountain Dew buzz completely.
John looked to his own left and right and wondered how long it’d been since he got used to being alone. Those last few months with Stacy weren’t the best, and Ava drifted when--
Looking down at Victor and Valentino giggling and covering their kids’ eyes when the Cats were a little too sensual, he knew what the answer was: Ava had been distant since they lost their own version of those two.
When Ava and John’s parents died, it had been so sudden. Before that, they spent so much time together. Ava was his best friend, over at his apartment every few days for ramen or advice or to make him try out some new recipe she had. Mom and Dad would take them to farmer’s markets and book drives, supporting their dreams in their own, weird ways. And they all used to really love mini golf, no matter how dumb that was.
He couldn't remember the last time Ava stopped by his book store, even just to say hi.
Maybe he had a lot more going on than just being lonely; maybe Ava did, too.
Before John could really register what was going on, the lights were coming up and it felt like his heart was being torn out of his chest. His cheeks got wet and his lungs got so full of loneliness that they didn’t know they were a pair. He didn’t want it to end. He wanted to stay in this dark theater, living vicariously through this vampire family a little longer.
But crying in a near-empty movie theater doesn’t go unnoticed for long. “Um, sir? Are you okay?” The one named Victor was suddenly in front of him, touching his shoulder, with these kind, however dark and kinda creepy, eyes.
If this was a normal day, John would smile and play it off.
But today was his birthday, dammit.
Shaking his head, John said, ‘No.”
Behind him, the entire vampire family had pooled, all looking at him with their own dark, kinda creepy eyes. John wasn’t really in a place to judge, though, considering his were probably all puffy.
Victor asked, “Mind if I ask what it’s about?”
“You all are just a really beautiful family.” John sniffled and tried to rub away as many tears as he could. While the honesty felt nice, there was only so much shamelessness his very embarrassing soul could handle. “I think I got a little jealous.”
“Well, if you want, you can come join us for midnight mini-golf. The night has just started for us, and it’s our little girl’s birthday. The more the merrier.”
John couldn’t help but laugh. “Mine, too.”
“Even better!” Victor stood up and offered John a hand. He took it.
As they passed the rest of the group, Valentino was rounding up the kids, Bastian was knuckling away a tear, and Bertrand was frowning. But it was the kind of way someone frowned when they knew they were about to be forced to enjoy something that they totally would enjoy, but hated to admit it.
With a knowing smirk, Victor asked, “Coming to mini-golf, Bertrand? It’s Desi and this young man’s birthday, after all.”
Bastian added, “I won’t be so completely annoyed with you anymore if we do.”
Bertrand scoffed in defeat. “Fine.”
And then John followed the roomful of vampires to mini-golf, and chose to actively ignore the fact none of their reflections showed up in any of the water features and the liquid in their water bottles was red. It was easier to focus on the way they all smiled together under the moonlight.
Tonight was his birthday, and he was going to enjoy it with a real, live family (sort of).
He’d call Ava in the morning. They had a lot to talk about.
