#I recently defeated hades in the game

heyy i just read your headcanons for percy x child of zeus and it was so good!! i was wondering if you can write headcanons percy x child of hades??

omg I was literally on a rant today about how hades is one of the most decent gods out of all of them I love him YES I can do that !!

I feel like people would be even more hesitant and afraid of a child of hades than a child of zeus

because, you know, he's god of the dead and all that

you have to constantly remind people that he's god of the dead and not death

"no that's thanatos you don't want to cross paths with him he's not very fond of demi-gods, but hades is a pretty reasonable guy actually"

but there have been so many stories about hades people don't really believe he's not that bad

so at some point you stop talking to people about him

or at all

you pretty much keep to yourself

it's nice given that you have the cabin mostly to yourself

(nico isn't at camp that often)

but it can also be lonely

percy noticed it one day when you were having breakfast by yourself at the hades table, not talking to anyone

so he got up from his own table and joined you for breakfast

(dionysus did not approve but percy doesn't care lol)

and after that you always have breakfast together

and lunch

and dinner

percy is very sweet to you and makes sure everyone always includes you

during capture the flag one day you pulled some pretty cool moves which earned you the other team's flag

that's when people really started to see you as just another camper

they talked more with you and helped you with developing new skills

the apollo kids taught you archery (even though you aren't that good at it)

you played strategic games with the athena kids to develop "critical thinking skills" as annabeth called it

whenever you were doing something with one of the cabins percy was always around

he was secretly a bit proud to finally see you interact with the other campers

and he would still eat most of the meals with you at your table

sometimes nico joined you as well if he was at camp

if nico was there he was most likely to be joined by will

which then attracted some of the other apollo kids

it usually ended with a bunch of different campers sitting at your table

you always sat next to percy

you liked spending time with percy outside of the meals as well

the two of you often stayed at your cabin or percy's

or you'd watch percy in the lake

you team up during capture the flag (and always win when you do)

during campfire nights you always sit next to each other

percy loves it when you lean against him if you're tired

even though you're tired you'd stay there after most of the others had gone to bed already

it reminds you of the time no one really talked to you and percy was the first person to share a meal with you :')

In my last Hades ramblings, I was discussing in a broader sense how I'm hoping to see fragmenting of Melinoe's allies as Prometheus sways many of the mortals (or mortal adjacent) to his side. I mentioned Icarus very briefly in that mortal group because his dialogue in response to finding out Prometheus is their enemy is him being quite confused by that. Which I mentioned it mostly to highlight the trend of reactions from mortals basically all going "wait our favorite dude is fighting against us... huh", not because I genuinely thought Icarus would turn against Melinoe.

But I've ruminated on Icarus more, as well as got some more dialogue from him and about him in game, and found an interesting trend.

Icarus is a character on borrowed time. It comes up constantly (I recently got Circe's dialogue on it), that he's only allowed to fly freely as he does while the gates of Hades are open. Once they defeat Chronos, and everything goes back to "normal," he will be shoved back in the underworld, never to fly again.

Icarus' whole thing is that he was raised in a prison, was allowed to fly freely for a beautiful moment, before daring to fly a bit too high, and then went tumbling to his death. And then upon his death, he was constrained to a different prison. And in a more metaphorical sense, he's shackled to his shitty dad's legacy too.

Of course Icarus recognizes that if Chronos is defeated he'll be trapped again. That the skies he loves will be once more a faded memory, but chooses to fight for the gods anyway. To fight with Melinoe who he obviously cares a lot about. Which is why I never really considered him "betraying" her.

But hmm, idk. Like I said, I just got Circe's dialogue on him, so it's on the brain. But she basically goes "awww that boys so helpful. Shame he can't fly forever, but it hey, it is what it is, hehe." Just the casual acceptance of it all. And she's just one example of that sentiment. That of course he'll step back into his accepted place when this is all over, that he has to or he will suffer the consequences. Icarus has been fighting endlessly for the gods, but they don't even consider an exception or anything really. Mortals can not fly too close to the sun.

So, while Icarus has expressed otherwise, and I don't think he was lying, I do wonder if down the line, faced with the choice to follow the gods back into a prison this time he will never get to leave or soar once more in the sky he adores... which will he choose?

Because I was a little bored recently, I have decided to start playing Hades again after a long while of not doing so. Let's say I forgot how much fun I had with the game! Also I believe I should be able to romance Thanatos quite soon (I wasn't reading stuff but I think I need to give him one more Nectar and I should be able to start romancing him)

I also got really close to defeating Hades! I got some good stuff while not using the keepsakes I usually go for when I hope to get to Hades. I literally went with Thanatos' butterfly just for fun and go much further than i expected

Has been a sword (or more commonly a labrys, or improvised weapon) gay for thousands of years

She's an unknowably old immortal and unspeakably skilled in any/all forms of combat. She typically uses her signature axe but per the other characters, "she's forgotten more ways to kill than entire armies will ever learn." Until recently, an unkillable gay (at least not permanently). She's bitter, she's badass, she's even bisexual. Peace and love on planet Earth.

Andromache is super tough, strong, and can beat anyone in a fight. She can also beat the bury the gays allegations as she can die but does not stay dead. She has been alive since est. 4700 BCE and has been protecting humanity with her blade skills for over 6000 years. She has been the leaders of various communities and worshiped as a goddess in several cultures. Andy is the founding member of the Old Guard, where she fights side-by-side with her life long love Quyuh (or Noriko as she is known in the comics, who is also a badass warrior and archer). Andy knows countless languages and is an expert in all weapons but her main weapon of choice is her labrys (a very lesbian blade weapon, so I hope it can be excused that it is not a sword). She has forgotten more ways to kill a man than any person/army will ever know in their lives. And yet even with this ferocious and tough skill-set, she is still so kindhearted, caring, passionate, selfless and protective of her found family and will do anything for them and for her love (even during the present complicated situation which i will not outline bc spoilers for The Old Guard). I recently started playing Hades again after like a year long break and I thought I would be like garbage at the game now but I'm maybe actually good now?

Just playing a couple hours every few days I just got to the surface for the first time and almost defeated the final boss??

PRISONER CLUTCH AU

An au based on the aftermaths of Issue 75, where clutch is kidnapped by Eggman, takes inspiration from the game hades as he must escape and starts all over if he gets knocked out and caught.

Clutch is being held in the basement of Eggman’s old metropolis base, being rebuilt, there’s exactly 100 floors, and each 10 floors is a boss room. The only exit is to reach the top of the building where Eggman himself awaits to capture you himself.

The bosses in each floor are random and consist plenty of Eggman’s robots, from robot variants, E Series, or the hard boiled heavies, all of them will make sure to send you back to your cell and can be talked too depending on who takes you back to the start, learning about them.

Wisp weaponry -

Old prototype weapons can be found around the base, originally made to counter the resistance’s own weapons, each has a different wisp inside that can give you different advantages, however if used a ton they will break the wisp free, Clutch has had a deal with them that he can use them untill the weapon breaks for their freedom, you can keep as many as you want if you find them!

(Weapon choices: Swords, Spears, guns, Ring (gives him maybe speed, power, or flight), and Bows)

Shops! -

Shard and Belle are oddly investigating the base, what they are looking for is classified but if you give them information on Eggman, they’ll gladly give you weapons or upgrades for them to last longer, this doesn’t mean you’re friends though. It’s just business.

Clutch’s Cell is a small spot that thankfully has a button close by that opens the cell, the robots maybe stupid because they can’t figure out how clutch keeps getting out, he obviously won’t tell them that though! This is where he mostly has conversations when he’s caught.

At the top of the building, Eggman will get called by the last boss you defeated and appear with his own mech from any of the sonic entries to handle you himself, Orbot and Cubot also appear to commentate on the battle, you must beat eggman 10 or more times to finally win. (I ain't drawing egg dragoon that's too much xD)

Shocking trauma -

This is still after issue 75, when clutch gets hit by Surge’s overcharge attack, and hasn’t been properly treated for it, after floor 50, clutch will take minimal damage for over doing himself while escaping, he has to find a medkit to temporarily stop the pain.

This is still a rouge like, so even if you beat Eggman once, you have to do it nine or more times and so you’re captured back to the start, everything is after you and you are not Sonic, you must learn and adapt. Eggman underestimates you, so show him why you’re feared.

The Great MCU Dud-Watch

Because I'm a glutton for punishment, I decided to spend this week watching several of what are, in my opinion, the lower tier outputs from the MCU in recent years and give my thoughts.

Captain Marvel (2019) - Hades can sum up my most basic sentiments on this movie:

I love Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel as a character. I love Brie Larson and think she's perfectly cast in the role. All of the pieces were in place for a great introductory movie, one I would gladly defend from all the right-wing misogynist whackos who would attack it. But that's just not the movie we got; the producers, directors and writers completely failed to put those pieces together in the correct way. We're thrown into the story with zero context behind the intergalactic alien shit and we never quite fully get it, the famous Kree-Skrull conflict from the comics is butchered so that the Kree are 100% evil and in a plot twist the Skrulls are 100% innocent refugees, Phil Coulson is put in where he doesn't belong, the origin behind Nick Fury's bad eye is blatantly retconned in a way that treats it like a joke as is the meaning behind the phrase "Avengers", the movie's lighting is frequently too dark and drab, the 90s references and soundtrack are overdone to the point of obnoxiousness (and I'm a 90s kid!), Carol's whole story is told disjointed and out of order in a way that makes it all obvious so it's tedious to watch the characters be twelve steps behind and the movie act like it's dropping bombshells when it reveals what we already know, the relationship between Carol and Maria which is supposed to be an emotional heart is pure Tell Don't Show, and by God was Brie Larson misdirected because she is usually so flat and one-note that I have no idea when she's supposed to be emotional or telling a joke or taking things seriously because no matter how it's scripted she plays it all the same way. All of this plus one unshakable core issue: this movie didn't belong in Phase 3 where it was released. Yes the Stan Lee cameo was great and the opening logo giving tribute to him gets me misty-eyed, but it wasn't worth having this movie interrupt the present-day flow of the MCU narrative and leading to Black Widow (the MCU's first superheroine who all logic dictates should have the first female-led movie in it), which has a story that was actually set in Phase 3, becoming a flashback told after her death.

I don't hate everything about this movie - regardless of what dumb things the plot does with him Samuel L. Jackson is an absolute delight as the digitally de-aged Nick Fury, actors like Lashana Lynch and Ben Mendelsohn are bringing their A-game, a lot of the humor is solid, the effects are decent, seeing Ronan and Korvath again is great, the way Jude Law's Yon-Rogg is ultimately defeated is perfect, and Brie Larson is clearly good with children because her performance suddenly comes alive whenever Carol is interacting with Monica or G'iah.

Still, I sadly can't ever look at Captain Marvel as anything but a massive wasted opportunity.

Eternals (2021) - This is a movie that either should never have been brought into the MCU at all or done as a Disney+ show where the many characters and concepts introduced could be fleshed out. As it stands, it's a mess - a trainwreck where the train is on rollercoaster tracks.

And....I kind of love it?

Don't get me wrong, it's awful....but shockingly I actually agree with Doug Walker's view of it: it's awful in all the best, most entertaining ways! It so commits to the weirdness that it's dishing out, you don't ever get the sense that anything's being half-assed. That kind of sincerity makes every blunder charming in a way I just have to laugh at rather than get frustrated by. And it's not like there's nothing legitimately good in the movie: half of the Eternals in question I found likable (Lia McHugh's Sprite, Kumail Nanijani's Kingo, Lauren Ridloff's Makkari, Barry Keoghan's Druig, and especially Brian Tyree Henry's Phastos), the camerawork and musical score are impeccable, and the expansion on the Celestials was cool, fitting in with established MCU lore from the Guardians of the Galaxy side of things.

But for the most part, the movie is ridiculous, trying to be self-serious and undercutting itself with accidental comedy in addition to the deliberate comedy, aiming to be emotional when it barely shows us these characters' alleged bond with one another and gives us little reason to care for most of them, and makes wild turns in the plot that are either completely unexplained or unearned from a narrative standpoint. The cherry on top is that its credits stingers are for a sequel which may not ever happen given the film's performance....and for Blade, which also may not ever happen given the development hell it's stuck in. Such a truly hilarious failure.

Thor: Love and Thunder (2022) - Meanwhile, this movie that's trying to be hilarious...is not.

I can count what I liked in this movie on two hands: the opening sequence with Gorr, Christian Bale's performance as Gorr, Natalie Portman's Jane Foster as the Mighty Thor which I surprisingly found more justified here than it was in the comics, the whole sequence early on featuring Jane, Darcy and Selvigg, Jaimie Alexander's cameo as Sif in comic accurate clothes, the Thor-Jane relationship montage (minus Korg's unnecessary narration), the flashback to Jane's childhood and her mother's death, Korg's death (while it lasted...), the whole scene in Eternity which felt like the climax of a better movie than the one that preceded it, and the post-credits scene in Valhalla where we get to see Idris Elba's Heimdall again.

Otherwise, this is one of the most obnoxious and utterly tone-deaf movies in the entire MCU. The incessant comedic tone and obvious improv jokes in a story about a demonic figure killing gods and kidnapping children along with a rekindling of a troubled romance where one party is dying of cancer is outright insulting. On top of that, the humor usually isn't very funny, the majority of the sets and effects are shockingly atrocious, and there isn't a character this film isn't gleefully willing to do dirty (most of the dead Thor characters get insulted through jokes, Sif is just a cameo, the Guardians of the Galaxy are wasted and you can tell that James Gunn had no involvement in their depiction here, Gorr is barely in the movie, Korg is insufferably obnoxious, Zeus is pathetic, Jane is saddled with a lame "catchphrase" running joke, Valkyrie - and Tessa Thompson for that matter - is now utterly rudderless, and Thor reaches the pinnacle of Taika Waititi's derailment of his character...it was 60% in Ragnarok and 30% in Endgame, but it's 95% here, with the good 5% being spread incredibly thin.)

I had a lot of problems with Thor: The Dark World and Thor: Ragnarok, but they're both masterpieces compared to this. If there's anything good I can say about it, it's that it woke so many up to how wrong Taika Waititi and Chris Hemsworth's new direction for the character of Thor and his sub-franchise actually was...including Chris Hemsworth himself! This movie was DOA, despite all the potential of the material in it, when Taika Waititi was put in charge of it with a blank check to do whatever he wanted. But mercifully, that is now guaranteed to never happen again, so perhaps Thor can yet find redemption before making his exit from the MCU.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023) - Arguably the most notorious of the duds, I can safely say that its bad reputation is not overblown. The title is awful, the complete shift from what kind of stories the Ant-Man movies had been established to tell did not work at all, the constant CGI is a strain on the eyes, Paul Rudd and company all feel weirdly off in their performances, Cassie Lang is played by a different actress from in Endgame for no good reason and derailed into a bratty teenage stereotype, Bill Murray makes a pointless cameo, the whole Kang the Conqueror storyline is horribly botched right out the gate, and of course there's fucking MODOK. Seriously, who thought MODOK - that dick! - was a good idea!? Sometimes there's a cool visual or a joke that gets a laugh (the whole scene paying off the ants that fell into the Quantum Realm had me howling), but otherwise this movie's a slog. With that said, given the change of direction the Multiverse Saga has gone in, it's at least an ignorable slog. You are seriously not missing anything by passing on it (which you should).

Secret Invasion (2023) - This is hands-down the worst of the duds on this list. I am seriously hard-pressed to find anything about this one that worked beyond all actors doing the bare minimum in their performances. It has almost jack shit to do with the comic storyline of the same name, it makes Captain Marvel's usage of the Skrulls even worse in retrospect, it uses AI art for its opening titles, it has an incredibly dull, try-hard dark and edgy tone that makes its comedic moments seldom land (although like Eternals there's occasionally some accidental comedy that gets a chuckle), its pacing and editing is haphazard, it has a boring villain, and it completely destroys characters either literally - RIP Maria Hill and Talos - or figuratively, above all being Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury, who has everything that was cool about him ripped away and left looking like the world's biggest asshole. This series just plain sucks.

The Marvels (2023) - It will forever be a cosmic injustice that Captain Marvel grossed over $1 billion yet this was the MCU's biggest box office bomb, because this is the superior Captain Marvel-based movie by far. You can actually follow all of the Kree-Skrull intergalactic politics this time around (even if you haven't watched Secret Invasion, which you shouldn't), the colors and cinematography and all-around vibe is way brighter and more energetic, Brie Larson is directed properly and is thus wonderfully engaging as Carol Danvers, the chemistry between her, Teyonah Parris' Monica Rambeau and Iman Vellani's Kamala Khan is perfect...for that matter, Iman Vellani's Kamala Khan in of herself is perfect, just as she was in her Disney+ show. She steals every scene with her infectious energy and hilarious line reading.

Now, that's not to say I'm blind to the movie's faults. Like many of the recent MCU output, the effects team was not given enough time and the CGI is often hokey as a result. The plot is paper thin yet also won't work for you if you haven't watched two separate Disney+ shows (Wandavision and Ms. Marvel) in addition to Captain Marvel. The villain is a bland retread of Ronan and is very awkwardly performed. Some moments like the musical planet sequence and the space cat subplot are....out there even for the MCU. And the climax is among the blandest "well, that happened" ones this side of Thor: The Dark World. But like that movie, I'm willing to forgive a lot, maybe more than most, if I like the people I'm spending time with, and that's the case here. Hell, I even like Nick Fury again! Now that's an achievement!

Captain America: Brave New World (2025) - Critics were way too hard on this movie, mostly letting outside events surrounding the country influence their viewpoint. I see this film the same way I see its lead-in Falcon and the Winter Soldier; it's certainly nowhere close to being as good as Steve Roger's Captain America exploits, but it gets the job done when it comes to providing a basic, competent political thriller. For me, the only particularly glaring weakness in the film is everything having to do with Thaddeus Ross. Harrison Ford is not remotely believable as the same character William Hurt played, the attempts at painting him sympathetically fall flat given all he does in this movie alone, and having him turn into Red Hulk in the climax to fight Sam Wilson's Captain America instead of Bruce Banner's Hulk just feels inherently wrong. Other than that, this movie is perfectly fine. Honestly, it deserves respect alone for finally paying off Tiamut from Eternals and finally paying off Dr. Sterns from The Incredible Hulk! Kevin Feige's commitment to tying up loose ends is commendable.

So I was thinking about this recently n like uh a teenage male ready whose like extremely scrawny and people are always calling him a twink and shit like that which makes him extremely insecure. He's scrawny and a bit short mostly because he used to be malnourished before the family took him in, how would they react to him silently crying in his room one day?

-It had been several months since you came to your new home, after you were rescued from the hell you had been born into, being malnourished for most of your life, resulting in a very frail and skinny body.

-You had been mercilessly teased and bullied for your looks, as it was easy to push you around, giving your size and lack of muscle.

-When you had finally been rescued, you were given regular meals and you started getting healthier and putting on a bit of weight.

-Your new family, which had adopted you, was massive, but they were all so supportive of you, willing to help wherever they could, from looking up high calorie meals to help you put on weight, introducing you to foods you had never had a chance to have growing up.

-Buddha was more than happy to introduce you to snacking- getting you candy, chips, and other snacks to eat at any time you weren’t eating proper meals.

-That was one of the issues some of your family members, Hades, Adam, and Jack, took you to the doctor for, as your metabolism was so unbelievably high due to you always being so underfed but being active, like running from your bullies.

-You had filled out, at least not looking so boney and sickly looking, and you were looking heathier, but you were still pretty skinny, something your bullies had no issues pointing out.

-Buddha, getting some new snacks and wanting to share with you, was the one you found you sobbing into your pillow, curled up in a tight ball.

-He was quick to sound the alarm and Adam was quickly there in your room as well. You felt so defeated as you sobbed into Adam’s shoulder, “It doesn’t matter what I do! I’ll still be- be like this! I can’t do it anymore!!”

-One your computer, Loki saw a chat thing open on a game you were playing online, seeing the names of some of your classmates that had been warned before to leave you alone, calling you all sorts of cruel names and what they were going to do with a twig like you.

-Adam and Eve kept you home that next day, while most of your other family members went to your school, calling other parents in, and exposed what their kids were doing to their own, how cruel they were being to you when you were working so hard, now that you were in a safe place.

-A few, mainly Loki, did not hold back and he had no issues picking at the flaws of your bullies, calling them out on their own weight, on their looks, tearing them down until some of them were crying.

-That’s when they got the message, kids and parents both, on what their kids were doing to you, how they were making you feel, and your family was ready to take names and kick ass.

-You were stunned to learn what they did, on how they handled your bullies, as many of them, especially the ones that Loki made cry, came up to you, apologizing to you.

-They invited you out to eat and they were in awe of how much you could eat, showing them that you were a big eater, but your body wasn’t packing on the weight as fast as you wanted.

-It was a process, as there were always bullies, but at least now you had some, bullies turned friends, who were willing to defend you.

-You thanked your family so much for what they had done for you, but Loki waved it off, ruffling your hair, “That’s our job- protecting you!” which made you laugh warmly, feeling so safe, so content.

I've recently been thinking of how some of the missing Olympian gods could be adapted for future Kid Icarus games and in Poseidon's case he could be expanded upon, so I decided to dump some of my abridged thoughts about them here. Turned out I still had lot of things to say, but in general these thoughts are about what I think these gods could do and why it's possible, along with what kind of relationships they could have with the already existing KI-cast. Considering the subject matter, expect to see mythology-typical mind-fuckery and the words "motive failure" a lot - not only are these people extremely unhinged, in many myths the gods take the "fuck around and find out" approach way too literally.

Starting with Hestia, she has a bad case of motive failure. Like what are you supposed to do with her? You can count her major mythological appearances on one hand, and even in those she doesn’t do much. It does also make imagining what kind of relationships she could have with the existing cast hard; none of Hestia's relationships are all that developed to begin with, but the ones she has with her siblings are those that get most focus… So that only really leaves Hades, Poseidon and maybe Viridi? Not much to work with, and I can’t really imagine those relationships being anything else but positive. Sure, they may disagree of some things, but overall they get along with each other. The most interesting thing about Hestia’s possible relationships is that I could actually see Dark Pit liking her due to her nice and unproblematic nature. It does leave plot potential pretty minimal though, but I could see writers using some legends about Vestal virgins as bases for plotlines where Hestia shows up as a supporting side character. The problem with those is that they tend to be pretty specific, so who knows how well they might actually work. “Arx tarpeia Capitoli proxima” makes a good moral but not much of a plotline if you divorce it from... Well, Tarpeia herself. Another possibility is that Pit’s sent to defend a place that had its sacred flame extinguished and he has to defeat the culprit behind that.

Artemis also suffers from motive failure. She may be a bringer of sudden death and disease along with being a serious contender for the title of the most wrathful Olympian, but… She’s so petty with it? Much of it is very small-scaled all things considered. Most things she does don’t have long-term consequences, and the few that do are quickly hijacked by other deities whose actions have bigger impacts to the myths in question. Like yeah, Artemis may have told Agamemnon to kill his daughter if he wants to set sails to Troy, but who cares when Apollo is inflicting the Greeks with a plague and Athena is ignoring the pleads of Trojan women. This being said, I could see her being used as an unfought antagonist for a chapter or two depending on what she does (something akin to her sending the Calydonian boar to terrorize Calydon could work), though that story ends the moment the threat is dealt with. I however wouldn’t cross out the possibility of her appearing as an ally out, though I’m not sure what she could offer to Pit and co. if that was the case as she’s not really a god of anything that could help Pit on his journey. And I honestly don’t see her having particularly positive relationships with anyone in the already existing cast - she may not dislike any of them, but she doesn’t really like them either. She’s a true neutral in that sense, which could possibly earn her Dark Pit’s respect. How long that’s going to last is a completely different matter though, it may be small-scaled put she’s still very wrath-happy person.

Have some more motive failure with Hermes, though this time it has everything to do with him being a rather hard character to utilize in a world without Zeus - because of the rating he’s not allowed to be horndog making more of himself and since Zeus isn’t there asking him to do things, it leaves him with next to nothing to do. He’s extremely loyal to Zeus and this loyalty is exclusive to him; while Hermes clearly loves the rest of his family, he wouldn’t do half of the things he does for his father for them… And boy, has he done lot of things for his father. He’s a big daddy’s boy and daddy simply can't be replaced because Hermes just doesn’t love many people in the same unconditional way he loves his father - this means he’d have to be an independent figure, since the only person he’d be a lackey for is out of the picture. Now Hermes does have some interesting figures connected to him, like his son Autolycus (shapeshifting thief and the maternal grandfather of both Jason and Odysseus, whose name literally means “the wolf itself”) and the goddess of persuasion Peitho who’s described as his wife on occasion, but I’m not sure how any of that could be utilized. Autolycus possibly could've had some potential as a recurring character if he wasn’t dead by old age, but who knows, maybe he did get deified and therefore became an immortal in the world of Kid Icarus. I mean, Medusa is just a sea daemon and a dead one of that in the myths so why not let Autolycus to become a god. But back to Hermes, what I think of his possible relationships with already existing characters? They’re likely positive overall and I can see him appreciating both Pits for their spunk, but I think that the most potential comes from different minor antagonists, like Thanatos, Phosphora and Pandora. In case of the last one, Hermes was the one who gave Pandora her personality so there's that. Into the two former ones, Hermes is a psychopomp which means that he guided spirits to afterlife and he was everyone’s preferred psychopomp. Only person who wasn’t happy to see him in this duty was Sisyphus (Ares freed Thanatos after he had been captured by Sisyphus and brought them both back to Underworld → Sisyphus sweet talks Persephone into letting him go for a short period of time → Sisyphus refuses to return and Thanatos refuses to try bringing him back, so Hermes drags him to Underworld), so one could argue that Hermes is better at doing Thanatos’ job than he is - the fact that the Sisyphus-myth is one of Thanatos’ only major mythological appearances doesn’t exactly help him in this situation. One could get some funny dialogue out of that. With Phosphora, her Japanese name is derived from Electra, who’s the younger sister of Hermes’ mother Maia. For some additional hilarity, Maia and Electra are both elder sisters of Merope, Sisyphus’ wife. Everything about the possibility of having Hermes, Phosphora and Thanatos interact smells like a comedy goldmine to me. But let’s be real, isn’t it weird that Hermes has never been a merchant in any KI-game? It’s so goddamn absurd considering how he’s the god of commerce! You’d think he would’ve been the first choice for that, but apparently not! That’s a one big missed opportunity!

Hera too has a case of motive failure, but the reasons behind it are pretty simple. First is the same as with Hermes, which is that Hera doesn’t get to do much in a world without Zeus; can't be angry about your husband being unfaithful to you when your husband isn’t around. The second reason is equally simple, it being that Hera likes Athena. In fact she probably loves Athena more than she loves Ares, Hephaestus and Eileithyia (aka Lucina) combined (her love for Athena and Hebe is probably around the equal level and if it’s in someone’s favor, it’s Hebe’s), so toss away all the possibilities of her being a villainous force. It wouldn’t really make sense considering how Palutena is mostly Athena-inspired character. The two goddesses are pretty much partners in crime and by crime I literally mean “Let’s try to overthrow Zeus with Poseidon and Apollo” and “Let’s be the only deities to celebrate Troy’s destruction” levels of things, having each others backs whenever something happens so I think it would be better to just let Palutena have a good relationship with her. With Pit things probably would get a tad more confusing depending on some other factors, but on a vacuum it’s hard to say anything about them. Regardless of those I think she and Dark Pit would have a pretty rocky relationship, as Hera along with her favorite stepdaughter and Aphrodite were some of the biggest menaces to society when Zeus was still in the picture… All roads may not lead to Rome, but many do lead to a scorned goddess, a nosey goddess or to an easily angered goddess.

Playing Hades 2 and (spoilers below)

I’m obsessed with Nemesis’ voice. I love that they chose an accent / dialect that is not usually associated with love interests* or even just widely used in general. It reminds me a lot of Shannon Billings from Orphan Black: The Next Chapter (insert girl-who-has-only-paid-attention-to-3-north-central-accents-in-fiction-now-compares-everything-to-Tatiana-Maslany meme here)

I’m actually - predictably- just obsessed with Nemesis in general. I love that the adversarial relationship of Meg/Zag in Hades 1 is turned up to 11 here. I want her to hit me and she has not disappointed lol. I’m hoping we get some more backstory for her rivalry with Melinoe, which seems a little one-sided and maybe more recent (?), with Mel calling her “Nem” as if they had a friendly relationship in the past.

I’m also hoping that maybe once I open the gate going Up to the surface, I’ll be able to recruit her so we aren’t “chosen” and “not chosen” anymore, which might cool some of Nem’s resentments. This is more far out but maybe we could even play as her (???) since Melinoe probably can’t survive on the surface long-term.

Speaking of, I have another pet wish that, if the underworld battles mirror Hades 1, that the surface / Olympus path might present more novelty, like multiple player characters. I’m hoping once we defeat the underworld area we might even be able to free and then play as Zag, Hades, or other OG characters. This would be a lot to ask for and I don’t expect this to actually be the case, but it would be a sick way to introduce a multi-player mode... Just saying.

Also on mechanics: my largest tip for anyone who played OG Hades is to re-map cast before you start Hades 2. Casts are way more integral to gameplay in Hades 2 IMO and there are levels even early on that feel impossible if you aren’t using cast and map choke points to carve out safe pockets for yourself.

For me, re-mapping cast allowed me to start fresh while incorporating it, rather than fighting against some pretty well-established habits and muscle memory from Hades 1.

I could barely reach the first boss for a few runs, and then within 2 runs of re-mapping cast I had reached the third boss, and within 4 runs I had reached the last (I’m assuming) underworld boss.

Haedrean fics (tags #hd-fics) are exclusively on Ao3 because I suck that way. My fandom ranges from PJO (Specifically on my Nico/Alabaster/Jason trope or like I love to call them Jalico cause it sounds like a cat's name), Jason Todd specifically because I'm a sucker for him and recently Naruto fics centred on Orochimaru and Uchiha Obito. I have a type and it's traumatised, dark and me convincing myself they're misunderstood.

These are my active fics: 1) Her Majesties Champions - A fic beginning around Post-Titan's Curse adventure of Nico, Jason and Alabaster Torrington. It's an AU whereby Nico and Jason are both also the demigod of Persephone and Juno due to reasons.

It's also an examination of if Primordials have proper power scaling and not just defeated from being dangled like a fish. And also if Triumvirate Holdings makes more sense because how on earth will they control the future if Gaea won? Bonus includes Butt Load of OCs just to fill in Camp Jupiter and all the other unexplored backstories because we're exploring that too

This fic was a result of me snooping around @drksanctuary's tumblr and getting sucked into Nicobaster hell. For some reason, Jason got dragged as well but that' because I was in the Jasico fandom when House of Hades came out.

2) Jason's Adventure in God Hood (Heh-God Hood) - This is a continuation of Great Hades (I'm Dead!) where Jason Todd is the son of Zagreus and Thanatos from the game Hades and must now navigate a life as a god while trying to face his past from Gotham City.

3) How To: Jason's Guide to Parenting Your Multidimensional Terrorist and Vainglorious Pretty Boy  - This fic focuses on Obito and Satoru by the power of some Unknown God (Not from Genshin Impact) are now fraternal twins and seven years old as they climb out of the Lazarus Pit bearing the DNA of none other than, you guessed it, Jason Todd. DC won't know what's coming to them.

this section is for me to look back on in the future when i do progress posts. i'll break down this section into multiple parts similar to my prev post for consistency

STORY

honestly, its interesting in concept. since sadly only 1 chapter has released btwn now and my last post so thoughts havent really drastically changed

ch5 imo wasnt really a full on hades chapter. yes, it takes place in hades and yes we get some intro abt hades, but i think this was supposed to act more like a bridge to tartaros, which is prob why we didnt have any h scenes w any hades chars aside from levi. ofc we'll get back to it being hades-focused eventually, but the story for a while is most likely gonna pivot to tartaros bc of that big lore drop abt mammon at the end

i assume we'll prob be introduced to the cherubs in tartaros bc of selaphiel txting us near the end + it being mentioned at the end that theres a hub of angels in the lab, and hopefully part 2 of mammon's h scene. it was strange at first for mammon to only have 1 h scene, compared to satan or levi that had 2, but w him implying theres probably gonna be a part 2 in his h scene + we'll most likely see him again in ch6 (or however many chapters tartaros will be played out), we'll prob experience part 2 in his home country. tbh that prob just me inhaling MASSIVE hopium since mammon isnt rlly that popular but i can dream ok-

i hope us being in tartaros doesnt last for just 1 chapter. you cant condense the experiments tartaros went through to create a clone of mammon only for them to fail + bring up the fact that the seed is prob also in tartaros in just 1 chapter. well— technically you can, but not at the pace chapters are at atm. chapters have roughly 15 parts of story on the main branch, and imo that much info abt tartaros cant be condensed into 1 chapter unless if they make the story bits like WAY longer than what they normally do

GAMEPLAY

tl;dr as an endgame player, its too easy 💀

working on the spreadsheet ever since the games 1st month of release and now just recently testing multiple team comps, the "meta" is so monkos HSHFJDJ

this game is INSANELY dependent on you having more than 1 dps/tank light card. light is also just an unstoppable element and i wish the game was balanced a bit more to let other elements shine

enemies are now way too easy to defeat. ik i prob shouldnt be complaining abt this but pls im a pgr and neural cloud player at heart I NEED SOME CHALLENGE

ch3 and ch4 were prob the most tedious and awful chapters, but at least they actually made me think when it comes to battles. now i just place down chars and let it play in the bg while i go do smth else. ofc this may just be bc i have a team that im comfortable w using everywhere, but id like to see at least a bit more "challenge" outside of holy coin portal

also, for weekly achievements, lvling artifacts is not a great requirement

i only pull when theres a new s rank or when mammon is moved to standard, so its very, VERY rare compared to avg users. having the artifact req is essentially forcing me to pull during those gaps just so i could fulfill a weekly req which sucks. i also dont need to lvl anymore artifacts in general for my team comp. lvl 15 is the bare minimum i need to get through all content w ease, anything after that is just a small boost tbh

on the note of daily/weekly requirements, there needs to be more of them

i mean in a sense of theres still gonna be 9 daily achievements, but you get more options on HOW you get to the 9 daily achievement req. most gachas that ive played always have more options than necessary to fulfill the overall requirement to get all rewards, so having this strict number w strict reqs is rlly not that great tbh

RESOURCES

thoughts from last time still havent rlly changed. pies and candies especially are still rng dependent which sucks, and now there gonna revamp pancakes while also keeping the old pancakes ???? theres way too many currencies (w some even having very little to no use) atp which can and will get overwhelming for new players

GACHA

i hate solomon seals. you can tell that red keys were supposed to be the main gacha currency if you ever look at old packs, but smth happened along the way and now we have seals

pity is also way too high for what we're earning atm. based off of f2p earnings, every week we get roughly 1 pull of red keys, maybe 2 pulls of yellow keys (red and yellow keys are more dependent on the key boxes which again, dependent on rng), and 1 pull of solomon seals. this doesnt include the stuff earned outside of dailies/weeklies, and i think there should be more ways to earn said currency through dailies/weeklies and not be so dependent on either paying or pulling chars

speaking of pity, i wish we had pity for both of the standard banners

i also wish theyd separate char and artifacts into their own banners. that way, if someone has a char but needs their sig, they can just pull in the artifact-only banner and try to get said sig

tl;dr in general i wish everything wasnt so strict and rng dependent, also wish numbers made sense like why do we get at least 5 red keys a week when 1 pull is 3, JUST GIVE ME 6 KEYS ATP

It is day number... I've lost track... of not knowing what the fuck is wrong with me.

Ah well.

I figure either something's up with my body, or seasonal depression is just kicking my ass particularly hard for no discernible reason.

Well. Today I went with J to the little airport. He had some maintenance things he wanted to do with his little airplane, and I figured the thing to do is try to get some sunlight and to spend some time with someone I feel safe and connected with. So that's what I did. The car ride there was very nice. We talked a little, and I took a few pictures...

...After a while, the sky started to look a little like you...

...One of the really nice parts of knowing about you is that if I look hard enough, I can find you in just about every beautiful thing I see while I'm out and about.

We also stopped to get something from the store that will help me to determine if something weird is happening to my body. Recently, a thing happened that was... incorrect. Off rhythm. Simultaneously too much and not enough. So I gotta look into it. I'll do it in the morning. Either my mind will be put at ease, or I'll have a solvable problem on my hands. Easy peasy.

I played a lot of Hades today, continuing my quest to get a victory on the first run of a fresh save. I had some really great runs today.

...I'm improving, slowly but surely. Such is the natural result of practice. It's only a matter of time before I make it out of Elysium. And then I'll be in an even more difficult area, with new enemies whose patterns I'll have to learn! Hahaha...

...I kinda wish that there was a way to practice against individual enemy types. In Dead Cells, there's a practice/training area that I made ample use of. I think no such thing exists in this game. I mean... there's Skelly, but... he doesn't attack you or do anything. He just shows you how much damage you're doing. It's kinda lame, actually.

...I think maybe the funk has come to a head just earlier. I fell into some leisure writing and... I guess I got some clarity, at least for now. My face ended up leaking a lot, and I can feel a headache brewing. Laaaaame.

Under the surface, there's always like a million things I'm worried about (some of these things are sillier than others). I tend to take far too much responsibility for things that don't have anything to do with me. Growing up the way I did, I forget sometimes that others can and should shoulder their own things.

...I think I maybe have a bit too much experience with trying to keep the peace in my house so that people don't devolve into screaming matches. But it's kinda hard to do that when no one takes your voice seriously. I have a lot of experience with being blamed for it when I don't do a good enough job of “making other people feel better” or “taking care of things ahead of time so that no one has to bitch about them”. Also, I think I've lived around too many folks caught up in the throes of their own learned helplessness, and so by now, it might be instinct for me to operate as though others will fit that same pattern, too. Like, if I don't remain vigilant and stay on top of things, people around me will bump into their own problems and their own triggers in the same way that a small child might accidentally touch a hot stove.

It's like... it's almost like I'm afraid that if I don't do all the things, then everything is gonna fall apart, and it'll be all my fault because I didn't try hard enough to take care of everything, and I'm a bad person for not preventing others from getting hurt and a disappointment for letting everyone down. Like... I have to prevent all the bad things from happening, or else no one else is gonna even try, because they shouldn't have to, because that's what I'm supposed to be here for.

...This is a longstanding pattern for me. But that's not really how reality works, is it? Not around healthy people, anyway.

...As an example, I can suggest that J stay away from the predatory job app. The suggestion wasn't followed, and he got hurt. Instinct is to blame myself for “not doing more to convince him” or “not communicating my reasoning for my suggestion clearly enough”.

...I think I have this stuff because, in the past, I was the one held accountable for my siblings' behavior and sometimes for my mother's behavior, and sometimes even for her various partners' behavior, too. If my sister failed her math test at school, for example, sure, maybe she'd get a light scolding from my mother for making her look bad, but... then she'd turn around and scream at me for “being a shitty role model” and “not doing enough to help her study” and “not caring about anyone but myself” and whatever other things she could think of.

I recall instances of my mother screaming at me for allowing my sister outside before doing her homework, because I “need to be more responsible” and “be a better disciplinarian”. And I recall other instances of my mother screaming at me if refusing to allow my sister outside made my sister feel bad, because “who do I think I am” and I'm “not the fucking boss of her; stop trying to do my mother's job”.

...Never mind the fact that she wasn't fucking home and intentionally left the care of her traumatized, rebellious pre-teen to a traumatized, meek, and socially awkward 16-year-old girl (me) and expected her to handle the role of parent with all the grace and aplomb of a wizened elder. I guess that's none of my business.

...I guess part of me expected J to come home from trying the thing, and telling me, angrily, “why did you let me do that? why didn't you try harder to stop me? what the fuck is wrong with you? do you even care about me at all?” I expected that, even though J has never once said or done anything even remotely close to that.

And in this imaginary hypothetical conversation, I follow up with, “well, would you have listened?” And his imaginary hypothetical response would be something along the lines of, “no, because you're an oblivious shit-for-brains and a total fucking idiot who lacks experience, perspective, and common sense. we both know you ain't never got a clue what the fuck you're talking about, but you could have at least tried a little harder anyway.”

...This is absolutely not how this conversation would go. Not in my house as it is now. Maybe in the past with different people, it would have gone like a little something like that. But not in my house. It's not how we do. And it's not how I'll tolerate from anyone, ever again.

...Well. Now that this pattern is defined and nailed down, I suppose it's time for me to try actually doing something about it. And I will, because I can. And here's why:

...Human brains are remarkable things. And just like I can progress from getting my ass handed to me before I even get to Megaera all the way to holding my own for a while in an arena with Theseus and Astarius, I can progress from being a slave to a stupid pattern to breaking free of the bullshit that people with power over me tried to stuff down my unwilling throat.

I will continue to improve. You can do the same. Work on it. Please. I can't, by myself, write the way to a better outcome for you. You have to choose it, too. And I know that you can. I believe in you. I'll always believe in you, even if you think you don't deserve it.

Please give us the pleasure of witnessing you rise up into wholesomeness and healing. Please shine on for all the others who are lost in the throes of recovering from childhood circumstances that are similar to yours. There are so many more people like you than you think. I'll ask you to shine the way forward.

Because... Sephiroth... they're not gonna listen to me if I ask it of them. I'm just a derpy autistic noodle with an overly wiggly skeleton, running around in a marginalized body with a voice that no one takes seriously. They'll listen to you, though. They'll listen to you, because... as sad as it is, your fictional life is worth more in the eyes of the people who live on my planet than my real one.

I’m one of those people whose taste basically includes a bit of everything, so I’m gonna sum my favorites up a lot or else I might not shut up anytime soon 🤭

I’m a huge, hugeee fan of Limbo and Inside, as well as the Little Nightmares series. Anyone who likes one, will sure love the other because they have a similar vibe.

Hades is also one of my favorites, and it’s one of those games that I can just play over and over again cause the story’s so rich and it entertains me every single time. It’s one of the games I replay the most, along with Inside. Another I replay a lot is Metroid: Mission Zero. It was one of the first games I played on my own as a kid and it has a special place in my heart forever ❤️

The Last of Us (part I) is one of my favorites as well, as well as Ghost of Tsushima. I love games that are narrative-driven but with a bit of action. Besides that I also enjoy fun stuff like Katamari Damacy and Earthbound/Mother.

Lately I’ve been playing a lot of the SoulsBorne verse and defeating huge bosses sure is in my dna because I suck at it and yet I’m still addicted 😭 Sekiro is probably my favorite and it was the story I was the most hooked on in recent years.

I have so many but these are a few!

My roommate has been playing the game (Hades) for months, and let me try it a round until I died in a small boss fight, it was so much fun! I saw your post about it and wanted to know if you have a favorite character in it, and what designs are your favorite?

You can honestly just say whatever you want about the game if you want to air out more thoughts! The game is just so gorgeous and seem so well-written

Fuck yeah I get to ramble more about a special interest of mine.(I was so happy to see this,thank you😂❤️)

Anyway. My favourite character would definitely be Thanatos,he's so cool and I think they really did him justice compared to other iterations. But my favourite character design is Dionysus😁 it's very close between him and Thanatos and I think they're both written near perfectly but I think dio's is a lot more fitting to his actual myths whereas Thanatos is slightly inaccurate as he's typically depicted with a sword not a scythe. HOWEVER HE HAS A SWORD ON HIS BELT WHICH IS SUCH A COOL DETAIL AND DEFINITELY A REFERENCE TO THIS!!

Dio on the other hand has his thyrsus(the stick with the pinecone) and it is an item that has been associated with him for ages, he can be seen with it in statues and art of him and it's extremely important that he has his thyrsus hence why I actually prefer his design over Thanatos(his is still pretty accurate don't get me wrong but dio's is just done a little better)

Another thing i like that they did with dio's design is make him androgynous as fuck and how I see it he's like a fucking sandwich (decently feminine face, masculine torso and fem as fuck legs. Aka androg sandwich.) it's also historically accurate because one of his epithets/titles is fucking androgynous.

However this is rarely seen in his depictions which is actually a shame.

I really love dionysus and his gimmick within the game aswell because it is ridiculously funny to make your enemies have a hangover mid fight😂 this comes with a downside tho as you have to have only one stack of hangover(if you inflict it by attack don't get something else that causes hangover.) this is because for some reason the stack of hangover overwrites with the most recent.

So say if you have something that does 1 hangover damage on the attack and 20 hangover damage on something else then if your constantly using your attack which you most certainly would be doing, you're actually overwriting the other 20! Even if it's higher. Which is bullshit as fuck but I still like his gimmick a lot lmao.

Moving on from Dio I also love how some characters have lil references to actual mythology even if it's not outright stated. It makes the game feel more alive and it just makes me love it even more.

Adding onto this they actually made a whole system to determine dialogue😃(I mentioned this briefly in the post but I feel like adding on a bit more.) they made a whole priority thing so that when zag(mc) completes am important/story relevant task, like escaping or defeating a boss the dialogue regarding this event gets prioritised the next time he talk to someone within the house. And I think it's fuckin amazing.

The only issue with that last part is it's very easy to overwrite some other important dialogue and even whole storylines at time(which is a pain) but it happens very rarely and typically fixes itself.

It really is a well written game and even in the different areas you can really see how much thought they put into this game.
