honestly now i think about it isabelle lightwood is the greatest beneficiary of the "jace and clary had such weird shit going on at all times everyone else looks normal by comparison" deal that's going on in tmi. i feel like she's often overlooked as a cast member because she's "bland" but she's really not she's just an 8 on the crazy antics scale while everyone else is constantly at a 9 or 10. or 11. remember when she started a scheme to blackmail her brother's ex into getting back with him? and it worked? she saved simon from being kidnapped while he was dressed as a regency hero and instead of questioning it she immediately turned it into a long-lasting sex roleplay bit. she eats her s'mores with ketchup. when her brother sent a postcard from his romantic holiday asking her to research some evil cult she was just like "ok no prob lmk if you need me to break the law a lil 💛 hope paris is sexy 🥰😼😼". she got a job at her amnesiac ex-boyfriend's school just to threaten everyone who wanted to make a move on him. and still everyone's like nooo isabelle is not that interesting i don't care about her as a character

the training montage in crossroads re-ignited a headcanon i had of geralt waking up and doing gymnastics, performing kickflips and mid-air spins around on a fencepost outside an hour before sunrise to ‘limber up,’ and bleary-eyed dandelion wrapping himself up in a blanket to be like "heyyy... what the hell are you doing 💖"

something i thought was really endearing about blade right from the get-go was how much they cared about the outfits and costuming and theming of it all. i know everyone talks about the cute stuff they wear already but i think going even further into that is how objects and ‘things’ play into the characters’ lives in general…

first thing i realized right when i finished the series was that this photo entrusted to hajime by amane’s father was basically the catalyst for everything that was gonna happen. hajime didn’t understand sentimentality but he starts the show with at least one keepsake (even if it wouldn’t be 'his own' at first, he struggles throughout the show to keep it) and learns about the kind of humanity that cares about these kind of things. he picks up photography, that one undead burns up all the photos in the room he’s staying in, and he watches how upset amane gets when she sees that the photos she (and haruka) held dear have been destroyed… and really everyone he’s surrounded by displays this kinda thing.

the cast of blade is really into mementos, which is probably true about, most people really. off the top of my head, tachibana is attached to the watch he got as a gift from sayoko, they both valued that puzzle as something representative of their connection, mutsuki longingly looked at shima’s + jo’s sealed cards outside battle and while this is very much a consumable rather than a souvenir he did get very sentimental about nozomi’s rice balls, hirose keeps a framed family photo as well and considered keeping the literal tangible memories of her dad, she’s instead left with his wedding ring after trial b’s death… there’s probably lots of other stuff i’m forgetting rn cause everyone has their own possessions. and while these are all mementos of experiences with other people, i think that the things they wore were another part of how they put value and identity into the objects they kept. ofc the riders had all kinds of jewelry and accessories that represented their personal identity as card riders, but i think besides that these things could also express the past bonds they had that were formulative to their identity (tachibana’s watch and 20th stage mutsuki’s ring from shima + tiger print cloth, etcetc). it’s very human to instill memories and experiences into something physical. kenzaki felt a little different to me though.

unlike the others, we don’t really get any of these sentimental flashbacks with something he owns. he honestly doesn’t seem to care about owning much and the most we get in terms of memorable incidents and connections with others are his memories of his parents in the first little bit of the series (which interestingly were so focused on how his parents died and how he regrets it that i can’t even recall if any GOOD flashbacks were shown, his recollection of them just seemed so distant…), and his time at BOARD along with the very influential event of Everything there going to shit. his jacket is arguably the only thing he wears that he’s consistently been attached to, which i thought really fit his whole relationship with the world around him; he has lots of accessories that scream ‘kenzaki’ through blues and spades and whatnot, but he didn’t really have the personal bonds with other people to have something like the others did. no one’s left that sort of mark on him. and in contrast, hajime had photos and framed drawings and a guitar and objects that became important because of those around him before he could even cement how he felt about his own identity. so he gets that heart ring much later after he manages to find himself, with kenzaki’s help.

and that’s why i was so giddy to see kenzaki in the drama cd, forced to travel light and often, keeping two things of sentimental value because of the people who’ve impacted him in the past: the blue spader that was with him throughout his time fighting with the others, and hajime’s photobook. yuppp

this all goes into my thoughts on memories and identities in general (GUY WHO LOOOVED THE NOVEL) but that’ll be for another post. side note also that i am very sorry in advance if i miss something that completely goes against what i’m saying because i watched the series WAY too fast and i would not be surprised if i forgot </3

Well I bamboozled myself okay- At some point I'm gonna have to make a master post of my silly AU,,,, when I write the fic I'll do that okay- so hello @transmcytshowdown and welcome to the aspects of how your poll made me think more about other characters and their genders in my silly Wedding planner!Grian x Florist!Scar AU! otherwise known as the WAaDW au or "What about a desert wedding?" Au! But wait! I should probably explain what this au is first!

The basic premise of the au is that Grian is a wedding planner and helping plan Ren & Martyn's wedding, and in the process meets Florist!Scar and they just have a romcom little falling in love story (with an occasional bit of angst here and there)!

I really need to write it so badly because my two friends have gotten the rambles about it and they can confirm I have A LOT of thoughts about it (the planning doc for it is 31 pages long. 13k words. this is THE PLANNING DOC. NOT THE ACTUAL FIC.)

I don't read too much fanfic these days, and I'm picky when I do--only about grammar/punctuation and immersion though. I ship a LOT of stuff (I guess The Youth would call me a proshipper) and although I never read darkfic, I don't shy away from weirder kinks and unhealthy relationship stuff.

categorizing by pairing, if applicable. some of them are smutty, and please note that the first 3 come from FFN which doesn't have a tagging system, but there is some SA CW I'll give in advance.

KAKASAKU | my first OTP! formative fics that totally reshaped my understanding of what fanfiction could be, and how well-written chemistry can make it or break it

HOUSE OF CROWS is the quintessential kakasaku fanfic. it was written during shippuden and so is canon divergent because of that, but also tells a comprehensive story of its own right that is intriguing and well planned. excellent characterization and world building. leaves me gutted in the best way on my yearly reread.

DUTY BEFORE HONOR is another silvershine classic. I don't reread is as often as House of Crows but they are just about equal in quality. again, the chemistry between them is off the charts, and the world feels so alive.

WILL OF FIRE for me is up there with House of Crows in being essential kakasaku reading. cynchick is a multisaku champion and a wonderful storyteller. the stakes in this one are stressful, the romance tense and believable, and we once again get lovely world building and great chemistry.

ITAKISA | a pairing near and dear to me, because men who do everything wrong are so deeply relatable. they both know they don't deserve anything good ever again but they found each other!!!! ARE YOU GUYS SEEING THIS--

A SHARK HIDDEN INN THE LEAVES doesn't have my favorite version of Kisame, but he's plenty close enough. it's a lengthy oneshot that got me into certain *ahem* kinks. it is a very fun and wild fic that is entirely self-aware of how absurd it's being, and manages to have nothing but sincerity at the same time (and I highly recommend the author's other stories as well)

AN ORCHESTRA PLAYING ON, INSANE is a modern AU (extremely rare in my bookmarks) that absolutely tore my heart out. god is it SO much to ask for these losers to be happy?! yes, it is, and I love every moment of it

MADAMITO | a rarepair I am SUCH a sucker for that has some of the most talented authors writing for it. lots of them have ot3 elements between them and hashirama, often angsty, but stuff like that is part of the appeal for me, lol

A HANDFUL OF SKY is an unfinished fic that I genuinely think about like once a week. if it ever updates then I will be over the moon. technically hashimadamito but it hadn't quite gotten there yet

LIKE ALTARS is just such a beautiful piece of writing, mostly on madara. it is everything, that is all

BLOOD AND RIVER WATER is more mito-centric but has one of my favorite madaras of all time

YOURS ARE RATTLED BONES is another short, mito-centric but gut-wrenching piece featuring the opposite type of madara from the last one

OTHER | character-centric stuff that isn't necessarily shippy but also doesn't have a very "gen" vibe either?

A SERPENT IN THE RICE is a little series about orochimaru that makes me feel so so so many things. highly recommended

HERETIC is such a love letter to kushina, and kurama too. cannot stress enough how much I adore this one

there's a few others that I probably won't link on tumblr, mostly unhealthy and/or "problematic" smut hhfhdj but maybe I'll make a public rec list on ao3 for these different categories and stuff like that.

but yeah that's pretty much it!!! I know it's not a huge list with a lot of variety but it's what I've enjoyed over the last 15+ years in the naruto fandom.
