Currently thinking about Atsushi and his probable inability to eat everything he should be eating.

He has a damn transformation ability. He NEEDS calories to change forms. Why do you think he was able to eat all that ochazuke in the beginning? My headcanon is because he was replenishing his deficient calories.

Atsushi should be eating a lot of food. He should be eating so much. But because of that orphanage, do you think he's going to allow himself that luxury?

(Am I currently writing a oneshot about this and ADA realizing it, why yes I am)

This is my first time writing Dazai so I apologize if I didn't capture his character properly. 🎙   When Dazai and [Name] first met, you can imagine what the first thing the bandaged man said to them was, of course, asking to commit double suicide with him. The tall and seductive stranger giggled and declined, thinking the bandaged man was simply making a morbid joke, but he planted a sweet kiss on Dazai's cheek and made his way down the street and out of the ADA detective's line of sight. The way the taller man's hips swayed as he strutted away had the brunette staring after him with wide eyes, sparkling with interest.

🎙  The two met again and subsequently exchanged contact information as well as planned a date during one of the investigations he was a part of. Something about the murder of a guy that happened in the club that [Name] performed in and the perpetrator being an ability user. After the investigation wrapped up, Osamu made sure to rizz him up and once again coax them into a double suicide, to which they again chuckled at and denied. For the mentioned date, Osamu took them to the movies them out to eat at the Uzumaki Diner before walking them home and being sent off with a kiss.

🎙  Now the two are married; two years going strong. Dazai makes sure to show up to every single performance his husband has at whichever club it happens to be at; oftentimes skipping out on his paperwork in order to do so. Dazai does make sure to tell [Name] that he in no way needs to come and see him at the ADA just in case, for their safety. Occasionally though, the seductive club singer does pay the bandaged man a workplace visit; usually dropping him off lunch or just to spend time together after being apart for a while.

🎙  Most times [Name]'s visits end up with him sitting sideways on his husband's lap while listening to him talk about his day in an animated fashion. Trailing his index finger up and down Osamu's chest slowly and sensually; the natural seductive smile playing on his lips. [Name] smothering the brunette in tons of kisses; leaving prints of his painted lips all over his husband's face and staining the bandages wrapped around his neck. Feeding each other whatever Osamu decided to grab from the vending machine on the other side of the room.

🎙  Speaking of the ADA; those in the agency still can't wrap their heads around how the two got together in the first place. [Name] is a drop-dead gorgeous sex symbol of a man who has a flourishing career as a club singer and Dazai is... well himself. Poor Atsushi nearly had a stroke trying to process the two being in a loving and stable relationship. How the bandaged man and his husband interact also seems to leave a few select people feeling painfully single and Dazai absolutely revels in their suffering. The man definitely plays up his interactions with [Name] just to get a rise out of them. When Kunikida asked the tall man just what he saw in his husband he answered that Dazai made him laugh.

🎙  Overall, the two have a very loving and stable relationship. Despite Osamu's want for death, [Name] makes him feel like life may be worth living just a little while longer than he thought. Every night that he spends in his husband's embrace is another night he feels safe, loved, and protected from the haunting memories of his past actions and those he's lost. Although... most nights the two of them don't get to sleep until late into the night.~ All Osamu's doing I'm sure, the scoundrel.

atsushi is a 6 of 10. definitely hides any jealous thoughts, at least until you're both home, but is absolutely bitter about it after

dazai is a fair 7 of 10. i don't have a lot to say about him, but he most definitely gets jealous easily

kunikida is a 5 of 10. when he's with you and you get hit spoken to by someone else, he just takes control of the situation and leaves with you. obviously against your choices, but he doesn't trust you.

ranpo is a 6 of 10. doesn't get too worried about other guys because he knows you wouldn't go for anyone else other than the greatest detective ever, but when another guy flirts with you, he just feels the need to.. step in.

yosano is a 7 of 10. she doesn't mind when others speak to you, as long as they aren't flirting with you, and that's a loose term with her. asking for directions in a large mall could get someone's fingers chopped off if she was in a particularly annoyed mood.

fukuzawa is a 4 of 10. he doesn't care if people talk to you either, but flirting is off the table with him. even so, he'll just leave the area and take you with him, he can't just let some other guy talk to you, are you crazy?

akutagawa is a 8 of 10. if someone's making small talk or something he doesn't care, but even speaking to you or looking at you for too long is just like asking for him to beat them senselessly.

chuuya is a 8 of 10. like akutagawa, small talk doesn't matter to him. you're socializing, who cares? but he's absolutely jealous of your friends, especially your close ones. strangers, he can beat the shit out of those, but your friends? he can't do anything there, so he just sits in silence.

higuchi is an 9 of 10. she hates when anyone else talks to you, she just can't stand it. she'll openly tell you how much she hates it when other people beside her 'flirt' with you, and makes you promise not to hurt her like that again.

gin is a 3 of 10. she does get jealous of other people like your closer friends, but doesn't act on anything, just sits in silence. maybe she'll express to you she was jealous, but she won't hurt anyone unless they make advances on you

tachihara is a 6 of 10. he does get jealous of your friends, but doesn't hate them. he just wants to be in their place. who says you should spend all your time with them? leave some room for him, won't you?

sigma is a 7 of 10. he won't make direct moves if he's jealous, he'll only tell you he's jealous afterward, or work behind scenes to get rid of the certain person he thinks talks to you a little too much for his liking.

fyodor is a 9 of 10. he doesn't think you'll talk to anyone else, it's about others talking to you. he just can't have you talking to anyone but him. why would you need to anyway?

nikolai is a 8 of 10. i don't have a whole lot to say about him either, but he's not afraid to be... himself,, if someone talks to you a little too much.

jouno is a 9 of 10. he knows you won't actually speak to other guys.. but still. he isn't chill when other guys talk to you, and gets worse when they eye you the wrong way,

"Don't look at me with those eyes. Your face might work on that short snail called Chuuya, but it won't work on me, nope. We both know you are disguised as a poor puppy, but you are nothing more than a stray dog in the end-"

"Dazai, what are you doing?"

He raised his head to you. He was sitting at the entrance door of Ada. When you got closer, you noticed the little fluff ball near his legs...

"Is that.. is that a puppy?"

"Not you too Y/N! This little mutt possessed everyone in the Ada! Brats are feeding it every day, Yosano-sensei treated it and Kunikida took him to the vet for vaccines! Hell, even the most cat person in this city, the president loves this little creature!"

You ignored him and crouched down to the ground, right next to Dazai "Hi there... Oh my god, aren't you the cutest?..." You slowly held your hand to see its reaction. The little pup seemed domestic, it started to rub its little head towards your hand. When you get permission, you started to scratch his head gently. You felt that like your heart was melting..

"Yuck!... I can't believe how you betrayed me out of all people Y/N..." Dazai sighed dramatically and headed for the stairs. Then he made a sudden turn: "If that mutt gets used to this place because of you, it will be either me or it that will have to leave the Ada!"

The pup stayed in the end, and of course Dazai too...

The little one was able to manage to capture everyone's heart. Nobody was afraid or disgusted (except Dazai) when it headed for the stairs and started to hang around in the office. It kinda became a mascot of the office... Naomi offered to name it "Pochi" and said it was the name of another cute pet from an anime. When "Pochi" was approved, it was now officially Ada's pet.

Pochi was so smart and loveable. (According to Ranpo, he was smarter than an average person) He knew the times when he could play with Ada members as he knew the times when things get serious. At times like this, he would sit quietly without bothering anyone (Kunikida has said Pochi was more mature than Dazai at these times) Sometimes he was accompanying the person on field search with their task too... Younger ones like Atsushi, Kyoka, Kenji, and Tanizaki siblings were mostly responsible for taking care of him, but no one would mind feeding him or having a walk with him. Except for one person...

"You should give Pochi a chance," you said on a lunch break. "He is one of us now, and I am sure Pochi wants to get along with you too..."

Dazai looked at you with both horror and disgust "Y/N-chan... Could you not talk about the mutt like it is an actual person?... I swear everyone is acting like they got bewitched by it..."

You didn't stop: "If you try to talk with him even once, you will see he is something else... Pochi listens to us like he actually understands"

"Nonsense..." Dazai scoffed "I would prefer to send a voicemail to Chuuya if I ever want a dog's listening to me..."

It was a usual night for Yokohama. Everyone had left the office after they were done with their tasks. You refilled Pochi's water and food pots for the night, he was staying in the office at nights. When you were about to leave the office you suddenly realized Dazai was still at his desk..

You blinked a few times. If Kunikida saw this, he would probably shed happy tears... It was not a usual sight to see Dazai's still working.

"Dazai I am leaving the office now... Are you coming too, or should I leave the office to you for locking the doors before leaving?"

"Ah, it's okay Y/N-chan... I will probably stay in here tonight, so you can go ahead, don't worry..."

You hesitated for a moment "Are you sure?.."

Dazai smiled "Yeap, good night, see you tomorrow..."

You were still not sure about leaving him alone... His smile seemed so fake just now, and you had a feeling like Dazai was not okay at that moment. But thinking that he was trying to send you, prevented you from doing anything. You didn't want to cross your boundaries. He probably needed some alone time...

"Okay then.. see you later, good night~"

When you left, Dazai sighed. And he brought out some sake bottles from his closet before heading to the roof...

The roof was so calm and peaceful in these hours... You could see the bright lights from all around the city. There were hundreds of lights and buildings, the most majestic one's Dazai's ex-workplace... This city was ugly yet beautiful at the same time... You could watch the people hurrying somewhere from the roof, you could hear faint conversations and laughter, you could observe their lives... When he found somewhere to sit comfortably, he filled a glass, then he looked at the stars before raising his glass "To you, my friend..."

Today was his death anniversary. Dazai was used to the pain that comes after the lost one, but for some reason, this year was harder than before. He was missing his best friend more than ever now...

He drank and drank until the point he started feeling a little light-headed. He was reaching out for the 3rd bottle when he noticed Pochi had been watching him quietly from the door...

"Is it you mutt? What do you want?... Doesn't matter, because I won't get up to give it anyways..." He tried to open the bottle, but his hands were trembling.

"Damn it..." he murmured. He tried a few more times but when it started to hurt his fingers, he gave up in frustration. Once he raised his head, he realized Pochi was still watching him, only closer this time...

"Listen dog... I am not in a good mood. I was trying to prepare for having a monolog with my dead best friend... If you excuse me, I don't want any listeners beside me..."

Pochi looked at him. At that moment, Dazai realized the dog was different than usual. Usually, the dog had this cheerful, loud attitude, it would look like it was smiling and move its tail fastly (too much to his disliking, he was thinking it was annoying) But now it was listening to him with ears dropped, the tail's not moving... And its eyes were like... it understood him...

"... Do you really understand what I am saying?" he asked, then he continued "..As if... It wouldn't be possible for a shrimp-sized brain like yours would be able to understand the complexity of human emotions.. Hell even I don't understand why I am feeling this-" he stopped for a second because his voice was trembling. "-these feelings... I just don't understand and..."

He felt tears were about to come but he bit his lips hard. He hated crying, and he had never cried for Odasaku since the day he died...

Pochi slowly moved towards him. Dazai didn't try to push him away for the first time. He watched as Pochi slowly approached. Pochi stopped near to his knees, didn't come closer. Instead, he put his little head on top of Dazai's knee. And just stood there...

Dazai couldn't remember how much he cried and talked about his dead friend with a dog that night... But when he woke up in the morning and saw Pochi sleeping in his lap peacefully, he didn't dare to remove him.

He didn't want to think about you guys reaction once you found out. Instead, he took his phone out and sent a picture with the caption: "Pipsqueak, look at him carefully and learn how to act as a good boy :p"

I have never had a dog, but I had a cat. She was my baby, my little angel... And she used to do this thing like Pochi, she would knew it whenever I was too depressed, and sit with me until I feel better... This was mostly for her memory, reast in peace my angel ♡

I need people to remember that bsd is NOT a shonen it's a seinen, it's not black and white or good and evil. Shonens are simple arts that delivers things straightforwardly but seinen puts things in a way that make you stew on it to realise what they were conveying.

The characters aren't 100% good or 100% evil, Dazai? Even though he's TRYING to be good he still resorts to blackmail and torture as shown in the main series and the 55 novel.

Atsushi as well, he's not just an innocent cinnamon roll, he killed Shibusawa and basically went "he deserved it tho" when he remembered. Oh, and remember his fight with Akutagawa on the cargo ship? He punched him in to a burning, drowning ship with no regard to whether Akutagawa died or not.

Another one I always see is Mori and boy do the fic writers love to make him an evil villain that LoVes making others suffer purely for entertainment, like no, he did not make Oda go on a suicide mission to hurt Dazai, he did it because it was the most optimal solution. But There are other better analysis on that so I won't dig into it.

Every character has their own childhoods, trauma and personalities.

Heck, the Organisations as wholes aren't goodie good hero and bad evil villain arggg, the PM keeps the underground in check to protect Yokohama. the ADA, like kunikida says aren't do gooders the go around feeding orphans But they have saved the city countless times. And the special division do what governments do, They uphold the order.

Making the characters one dimensional and one note not only is disrespectful to the original work but makes being in the fandom harder for everyone.

TL;DR bsd isn't so simple, it's a seinen. there's layers to everything in bsd, the characters, organisations, motives, clothes, etc. etc.

Summary: Imagine if Atsushi had tiger tendencies that bleed into his everyday life as a result of accepting his ability. Now imagine it's say *checks notes* November-April.

It was strange. You and Atsushi had been friends for a while, but as the winter months were coming to an end, you noticed he started being more protective of you. He had started unconsciously hovering over you in the office and would often offer to walk with you back to the dorms. You found it to be very sweet and endearing since you liked spending time with him, but a few days later, he accidentally growled at Dazai when the brunette put his hand on your shoulder. Atsushi looked mortified and fled the area with such haste he actually had a puff of dust follow him out. You've never seen him do that before. Turning to Dazai, he only laughed, humming to himself as if he knew why, but you were still baffled at what just happened to make him leave in such a hurry. The rest of the room brushed it off, so maybe it wasn't that big of a deal. If Atsushi wanted to talk about it, he'd bring it up on his own time, but he never did.

A few days later, you were pretty roughed up after returning from a mission. The moment Atsushi saw you, he pushed Kunikida out of the way and held you tight. He gingerly assessed your wounds, refusing to let anyone near you until Yosano cleared her throat, snapping him back to his senses. Once again, he bolted out of the room with a look of despair, leaving you mystified about what was going on. It seemed to click for everyone else, but you didn't have a clue what was going on. To be fair, you were still relatively new to the agency. You've only been with them for a handful of months, but they've already accepted you as family.

As Yosano was patching you up, she gave you a stern expression. "If he's making you uncomfortable, I can tell him to cut it out." You could feel your cheeks slightly heat up thinking about everything Atsushi’s done over the past few weeks. That has to be what she was referring to, right? You stuttered, trying to figure out what to say. "N-no, it's not that he's making me uncomfortable, i-it's just that I," you paused briefly. The moment you joined the agency, you knew you were doomed once you were formally introduced to Atsushi. He was just so friendly and caring it felt natural that you were drawn to the tiger boy. Over the past few months, you realized that you started developing a crush on him. Inside you were eating up all of this new seemingly possessive behavior, but the way he was running away immediately afterwards was concerning. You sighed almost defeated.

Yosano chuckled darkly "Oh I get it you like-" You immediately put your hands over her mouth. "Shhhh don't say it out loud! I'll never hear the end of it if Dazai were to hear."

As if on cue Dazai had burst through the door smugly "Never hear the end of it if I heard what?" You rolled your eyes at him. Yosano ignored the nosey idiot and delicately grabbed your hands "All I'm saying is you should tell him before April hits. It'd actually be easier on all of us."

Dazai gave you a smirk that already says he put together your secret. You frowned as you pulled him out of the infirmary. He was amused by your irritation but didn't say anything directly. You glanced back to Atsushi’s empty desk before setting your head down on yours. Confessing was going to be easier said than done.

Over the next week you would fail to confess your feelings for him. Part of it was because the words had a hard time leaving your mouth, to which Dazai would playfully mock "What cat got your tongue?" Other times Atsushi would scamper away after "overstepping" and he was too fast for you to get a word out edgewise. Sometimes multiple inconveniences would occur causing a series of unfortunate events. Needless to say you tried but didn't end up confessing. You were fine staying friends even if his random exits were starting to get to you. Was he scared of you? Were you making him uncomfortable?

You were walking past his desk to put a stack of paper on Dazai’s when he pulled you into his chair and shoved his face into the crook of your neck. You’re glad most people were out on a case today because the noise you involuntarily made was embarrassing. Kunikida was unbothered, too enthralled with his work to glance in your direction. Atsushi hummed, smiling against your neck as he took in a deep breath. The sensation caused you to shudder as he loosened his grip slightly pressing primarily his forehead to your skin. He felt hot.

"Hey, Atsushi? Are you feeling okay?" You asked shifting in his lap to look him in the eyes. His pupils were blown wide and he seemed kind of out of it. "Now that you mention it, it's a little warm in here." He seemed pretty dazed.

You brushed the bangs off of his forehead to press yours to his. "You should go see Yosano, I think you're running a fever." You stood up but he was still stunned by how you invaded his personal space a moment ago. You swear you could hear a soft purr come from him. After a beat he slowly made his way to the infirmary. Kunikida watched him almost stumble out of the room raising his eyebrow at you causing you to shrug in response. What was there to say, he wasn’t feeling well.

In the doctor's office Yosano sighed "It's that time of year again Atsushi, it's going to happen whether you like it or not." She looked at the thermometer and sure enough he was running a fever which means he's about to start his "mating cycle"

"It still doesn't make sense to me. Why am I the only one who has weird side effects of my ability!" Atsushi rolled his eyes slouching in his chair. You've been driving him crazy for weeks now. He can sense when you're near just by your scent and he keeps itching to be as close to you as possible. He knows he had a crush on you but recently it's been getting worse and the tiger has been acting on it without his permission.

"I wouldn't say that exactly, I mean just look at Dazai. The only difference is none of us have animalistic tendencies." Yosano pulled out some pills to help Atsushi for the week he's about to endure. She made them specifically after last year's cycle when the tiger went berserk. Which reminded her "Did you ever have that talk with (Y/N)?"

Atsushi hid his face in his hands. "No…I couldn't do it."

"Of course you didn’t," she huffed knowing it was a lost cause at this point. "You both are helpless."

Atsushi perked up suspiciously at her words "What’s that supposed to mean?"

She handed him the pills "It doesn't matter. Just go home, keep your door locked and take these. Dazai will come check on you in a few hours once he gets back." Yosano shooed him away to make another set of medications. Atsushi wasn't convinced she wasn't up to something.

The door opened while your back was turned so you didn't see Atsushi leave but you definitely felt a pair of eyes linger on your frame as he left. You sighed as you handed Kunikida your reports. He cleared his throat seeing you slump "It's not my place to say but if you're worried about him why don't you make him some of that famous soup you're always talking about. I'm sure that will help him make a swift recovery." Kunikida would rather stay out of it but after witnessing just how dense you and Atsushi really are, he figured a small nudge in the right direction couldn’t hurt. Otherwise he might have to deal with another of his colleagues moping at work and it's bad enough Dazai pesters him to no end.

You smiled wide "You're right! Thank you Mr. Kunikida, that's a great idea!" You hastily gathered your things and rushed out before you could hear the rest of Kunikida's suggestion. He was going to say don’t deliver it alone but he's sure someone will manage to stop you before you can do anything too reckless. He simply pushed up his glasses and continued his work. It wasn’t his fault the two of you couldn’t talk about your feelings like normal adults.

You on the other hand hit the market before going back to your dorm to make the famous soup. Kenji was always talking about how in his village they had a cure all soup and he showed you how to make it. Although not everyone was around to try it at the time. Atsushi was one of those people, but now was the perfect opportunity for it! You wasted no time at all packaging it up in a nice thermos, heading over to his room.

You stood in front of his door with your hand ready to knock when you were pulled inside and pinned against the door. Atsushi was visibly panting as his eyes focused on yours. It was strange since when were his eyes blue? You thought they were a mix of purple and yellow.

"I smelled you coming up the stairs." He rested his head on your shoulder "You shouldn't be here. Not when I'm like this." He was already in his sleepwear and his hair was disheveled more than normal. It looked like he just woke up from a nap or something.

You swallowed hard. It was now or never. "I don't mind, you know. I came here to help make you feel better anyhow." You lifted up the soup you made. Hopefully he likes it. This would be the first time Atsushi would be eating your cooking. The thought made you feel warm inside.

Atsushi's mind was flustered as he misunderstood what you came here for. "I can't ask that of you-" Sure he’s had fantasies about this situation but he never thought they'd come true. Recently you've been the center of all his "mating" daydreams. You always looked so cute under him and the prospect of you wanting to be intimate with him was crashing his train of thought.

Meanwhile you still thought he was feeling under the weather. "Good thing you didn't ask then." You cut him off leaning forward to pull him in your embrace. You know he's never truly had anyone to lean on in the past. You want to be that person for him. "I don't think you understand how much you mean to me. I've always seen you as more than a friend, Atsushi."

His eyes widened as he nuzzled into you. If this was a dream he hoped he never woke up. "I like you as more than a friend too." He sighed contently into your neck. You smelled so good to him it was making him dizzy. "Do you mind if we cuddle?" He was nervous, you could tell but you both already admitted to liking each other and you've never turned down an excuse to hug your favorite tiger boy before. You giggled at his hesitancy. He was being clingy and cute. How could you say no to him?

"I'd love to."

You put the soup down on the counter before Atsushi pulled you into his little pile of blankets. It was extremely comfortable and warm. You slotted so perfectly together like a puzzle. It was the absolute perfect setting for both of you to fall asleep in each other's arms, completely unaware of the misunderstanding that was waiting for you when you woke up.

Months of tolerance v. 2.0

Decided to feed some of my more neglected fandoms again while I’m just vibing. So! Decided to rewrite one of my first scenarios for bsd! Hope ya enjoy this little update.

The orphanage Atsushi Nakajima had grown up in didn’t do many holidays. At least, not that he knew of.

The best Atsushi got in ways of celebration, was when the director would get him new clothes for Christmas every few years. So, the candy-colored, lovey-dovey time that was Valentines day or White day held no real significance to him, even when Osamu Dazai drug him out on his day off to ‘learn the basics’, as the bandage-clad brunette had said. Though, that lack of significance still wasn’t enough to spare the weretiger the pain that came from all of the teddy bears, candies, and cards that filled the shelves of the store for lovers, friends, and family to buy.

“Dazai, I...don’t think Valentines is a holiday I’m very...fitting for.” He sighed as he studied one of the plushies on the shelf in front of him. Even as the rail that he called a mentor shot him a pathetic pout. “Come on, ‘sushi. Valentines is for everybody! It’s not like the american tradition, you don’t need a romantic partner to partake! You can just get a gift for everyone in the ADA until you find yourself someone!” He reasoned, suddenly at Atsushi’s side to throw an arm around his shoulders and give him a too-bright smile. “Plus! Just think of how a knowledge of romance, even basic, can give you a one up on Akutagawa! If all else fails, this is, like, a tactical mission.” Which, got the weretiger to grimace, “What does he have to do with this? I don’t even like him as a friend.” He pointed out, but all Dazai did was pat his shoulder and give him a more sympathetic smile. As if the white-haired man was stupid for that. “Atsushi, it’s called ‘killing them with kindness’. Get Akutagawa a gift, confuse him and soften him up to you. At a minimum, it’ll chase him off and save you money on shirts.”

And, while the brunette’s point earned a deep scowl from the choppy-haired man, he didhave a good point. Even if Atsushi didn’t have much fondness for Akutagawa, the goth was probably the closest thing he had to a friend that he didn’t work with. And, if he got him to chill with the murderous jealousy over Dazai, he wouldbe able to keep a shirt for longer than a week.

So, he bought a cheap, glass-eyed black cat plushy as a gift for the dark-haired mafioso. However, that opened up another question to glare at the man. How to get the stuffed toy tothe wheezy man?

Which, was a predicament that haunted Atsushi through out the three days that led up to Valentines day. Damn it, is this really worth it? I don’t like Dazai’s cranky fanboy on the best of days, so why risk being killed over a toy? He thought bitterly as he glared down at the floppy feline laid crumpled on his cheap coffee table. Those plastic amber eyes allowed to stare up at the predatory cat emptily as he sat on the cheap, creaky goodwill couch the evening before the big day. The annoyance of the work day, paired with the disgusting knot of warmth, embarrassment, and vengeful anger enough to warm his cheeks the more he glared at the cat. I think I’d rather drink my own fucking piss.

With a low, feral growl, Atsushi got to his feet to pluck the cheap toy up from the coffee table and throw it out of his living room window hard enough to hear its soft body hit the lid of the dumpster across the street from his apartment building before he slammed his window shut once more with a decisive ‘humph’.

Atsushi could admit that Dazai was a very smart man with far more people skills than he had. But, the weretiger also refused to be plagued by confused, conflicted emotions just to placate a stab-happy psycho with a hate boner for him. So, he was happy to lay in bed and let the cheap cat rot in the dumpster.

But, regardless of that fact, he still found himself out in the chilly evening shadows to dig the plush cat out of the dumpster to be washed. Not due to an actual desire to give it to Akutagawa, though, simply because he’d spent money on it, and if he was truly going to ‘kill him with kindness’, it’d be easier if the plush toy didn’t reek of three-day-old take-out and dog vomit. And, when the next day came, he made sure to take the toy to work with him. That way, he could throw it at the goth when they inevitably ran into one another on the job and be rid of the dumb task.

Only for not even a single hair of the goth’s gradiented hair to be seen while Atsushi was out and about that day. Forced to deal with petty couple squabbles and emotional blow-ups with the toy cat in his pocket for no reason.

This is just proof I should’ve left this wretched thing in the dumpster. He fumed to himself as he walked home in the slowly dimming light of the setting sun. His sunset-colored eyes glued to the sidewalk to avoid the sight of even more reminders of his own loneliness. If I had tried to do what Dazai said, I’d be dead. This was an entire waste of my money, time, and mental space. The only thing giving Akutagawa this toy would’ve done is off-His thoughts were forced to a stop when he knocked someone on their ass thanks to, y’know, not actually looking where he was going. “O-oh my god! I’m so sorry, miss, are you hurt?!” He squawked, quick to offer his hand to the ravenette woman.

And, while she took his hand with little more than a shake of her head, Atsushi still raked his eyed over her familiar white dress, long, dark hair, and sickly familiar light steel-colored eyes- “Oh!...You’re Gin, right? Akutagawa’s sister.” He noted as he pulled her back to her feet, his words all it took to bring a tint of pink to her fair cheeks. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to run you over.” She said, her voice as light as a spring breeze. Which, the white-haired man couldn’t help but briefly compare to the rasp and snarl of her brother’s voice before he shoved those thoughts away to instead awkwardly laugh, “Oh, no no no, it was all my fault. I-I wasn’t looking where I was going, you see.” He stammered, initially tempted to try and help dust the woman off, but quick to decide against it in the realization of how inappropriate that might come off as.

“Is that yours?” She asked, her sudden question quick to replace his awkward shame with a brief flicker of confusion. At least, until he realized, much to his horror, that his floppy toy cat had been thrown to the sidewalk in his panic to help her up. “Uh, well...actually, I-I kinda...not really? I-it’s intended for...Akutagawa, actually?”

Understandably, the assassin gave him a distrustful eyebrow raise at that admission. Her soft voice hardened as she questioned, “No offense, but why did you buy my brother a toy? Is it intended as a gift for Valentines?” Which was a very fair question that left Atsushi to flounder like a hapless fish on a ship deck. The weretiger only able to manage a weak, “I...D-Dazai suggested it…” while his eyes flicked around the swiftly-darkened street to find anything but Gin to look at. All the while, the woman said nothing about how he fidgetted with the too-long tail that swayed behind him at all times like a tail and cooked in his own embarrassment.

Until, finally, she hummed with amusement laced into her words, “Well, how about I deliver it to him for you? Save you getting stabbed for something Dazai put you up to.” Which, got her a brief glance, but Atsushi knew better than to argue such a simple delivery method. So, he instead simply thanked her before he scrambled off towards his home with no other words to exchange.

Yet, despite how helpful and easy Gin’s offer made Valentines day, Atsushi’s anxiety was still high for the next few days. Each trip to or from work done with his senses on high alert for any sign of wheezing, coughing, or malicious aura. Only for the attacks to never come. Hell, the choppy-haired man didn’t even meet Akutagawa in a work context in the entire month or so that ticked by, let alone met a confrontation over the Valentines gift.

Maybe Aku really likes the gift? Or maybe Gin didn’t tell him who it was from. He mused as he walked home from the ADA in the dark evening hours. The street quiet and somewhat empty, air thick with anxiety over the mafiosos that liked to linger in the shadows and thin alleyways. Though, if Tachihara or Higuchi really had been around, they left Atsushi to his thoughts and the warmth that bubbled up in his ribcage.

Yet, before the weretiger could begin to poke at the mess of emotions that sat like a rock in his belly, something hard slammed into his head. Was I just shot? Was his initial thought after his body crumpled onto the pavement of the quiet sidewalk. Though, that idea was quickly squashed since if he’d been shot in the head, he wouldn’t have been able to think that thought, let alone watch the world spin and blur with the pain that throbbed in his skull. And, while the world did stabilize once more after what felt like an hour, the ache in his skull remained as he pushed himself back to his feet. And, while he tried to focus his eyes enough to try to find the culprit, all he ended up seeing in the darkness was a deformed, swollen can of his favorite soda

Which, was probably more confusing than a sudden attack on the weretiger since, well, soda cans don’t randomly fly at people’s heads, especially not when they haven’t even popped open. After all, they didn’t work like cartoon bubbly bottles, you couldn’t just pop a can of soda and launch it at someone like a torpedo. So, he was forced to think that someone had purposely hit him with it while he looked around the empty street as if he’d simply missed the culprit on his first scan. Kunikida? He throws stuff at Dazai, but I don’t know why he’d throw a soda at ME on- The date suddenly registered through the throb of pain in his head. And, a burning heat was quick to follow that realization to crawl up Atsushi’s neck and over his face. “Um?? T-thanks I guess?” He called into the shadows. Before swiftly booking it for home so that Akutagawa didn’t get a chance to maul him in person.

ADA Members as High School Students- Headcannons

All the characters are of high school age, except for Fukuzawa who is a teacher.

I might do the older ADA members as teachers eventually, but I wanted to focus on them all as students for now.

Includes: Dazai Osamu, Kunikida Doppo, Ranpo Edogawa, Atsushi Nakajima, Kyoka Izumi, Miyazawa Kenji, Yosano Akiko, Fukuzawa Yukichi

Cws: mentions of suicide (because it's dazai), mentions of school fights, school life, mentions of bullying, school counseling

Dazai Osamu:

Would mess with the underclassmen by sending them on a wild goose chase for the nonexistent school elevator or something like that. 

Takes advantage of his friends and always gets them to do his assignments for him (that habit obviously carried into adulthood). 

Proudly holds the record for the most unexcused tardies in one school year. 

The teacher keeps trying to call on him to answer a question when he seems like he’s slacking off but Dazai always answers correctly, that devilish little unapologetic grin on his face. 

Literally never studies. 

The teachers can’t tell if he cheats or is just really intelligent, but if he were cheating, they wouldn’t be able to catch him. 

(He doesn’t cheat by the way, but he never explicitly denies it). 

Has been confessed to at least three times, (he scared them away when he asked if they’d be willing to commit double suicide with him). 

The guidance counselors keep trying to schedule a meeting with him to talk about his “suicidal tendencies,” but then he just shows up on mushrooms or something and they’re like “Nevermind.” 

Drama queen. 

Used to be part of this questionable after school club (Mori was the faculty advisor) that got disbanded. 

Pulls pranks on the faculty and other students (mostly Chuuya), particularly ones he has some reason to hold spite against.

Never gets caught. 

Smooth liar. 

Completely up with the gossip too. 

Those career path quizzes never know what to do with him, he gets a jumble of results. 

The underclassmen have no idea who Oda is, but they know you should never bring him up around Dazai.

Lots of rumors circulating as to why he wears his bandages. 

Probably hides Kunikida’s glasses so he can’t see the board. 

Surprisingly good at writing, language arts is his best subject.

Kunikida Doppo: 

Constantly threatening to snitch on Dazai but never does. 

This audio. 

The kid that asks for clarification on assignments and ends up reminding the teacher that they meant to give homework. Doesn’t see the problem with it. 

Does. not. condone. bullying. He’ll push up his glasses and emotionally destroy the perpetrators before filing a fancy report to the faculty advisor. 

Keeps a planner notebook. Very meticulous and organized, he’s proud of it. 

Probably class rep. 

Takes way too many things way too seriously. 

Has never missed a deadline. Ever. 

Every single one of his pencils is somehow always sharpened and perfect. 

Strongly believes that wooden pencils are superior to mechanical ones. 

Good at math, but also art. He sees the canvas as a kind of graph, does particularly well with landscapes. 

Very serious about getting proper nutrients from what he eats and drinks throughout the day, he plans his lunches for the week ahead of time.

Does very well in debate class too.

Always perfectly in uniform, scolds Dazai when he has his tie loose or didn’t button up his blazer or something like that. 

Ranpo Edogawa: 

Does favors for people when it gets close to Valentine’s Day to make sure he’ll get some chocolates. 

Do I even need to say it- ALWAYS snacking in class. 

Coerces as much free food out of other students as possible. 

Eventually they pick up on his game and stop feeding him. 

Snitches on people flawlessly in the middle of class, the culprit fuming, the teacher dumbfounded. Maybe he can get away with snacks once in a while. 

When people ask him to help them study he usually just redirects them to Atsushi. 

That kid that’s always leaning his chair back way too far but never falls.

The faculty has basically given up on punishing him. After school detention?- more sleeping time. Extra homework?- doesn’t even break a sweat.

Knows exactly who is cheating on the test, gets offered bribes from both the students cheating so he doesn’t tell on them and the teachers who want to know who it is.

That one kid that just shoves looseleaf crumpled paper into their backpack, seems like they’ve never used a binder in their life. Somehow turns everything in just fine. 

Says he doesn’t have gum on him when he’s literally chewing a piece. 

Always goes and visits/annoys Fukuzawa when he can. Fukuzawa actually doesn’t mind and Ranpo enjoys getting to talk to his favorite teacher. 

Doesn’t even check the board when tests results come out, he already knows what he got, and can easily guess the others’ scores too. 

Most people couldn’t actually tell you what his eye color is. 

Fukuzawa is the only teacher Ranpo will actually take a lecture from seriously, the other administrators have to call him over when they need to scold the boy.

Atsushi Nakajima: 

The only one who did their part in the group project. 

Always offering to help the teachers, tutors other students, etc. etc.

An angel, really. Akutagawa is the only one able to make him upset. 

Extremely apologetic, would probably help the janitor clean up if he ever accidentally made a mess. 

Probably tried out for a part in a school production at least once. 

Turning heads from around the room when he reveals that he plays piano. 

So shy about it though, he probably didn’t even mean to say it. 

Dazai gave him a pep talk before his first performance. 

After that, he starts to come out of his shell in music class, does well in music theory too. 

Would literally die if he ever received a love letter or anything of the sort. 

Doesn’t like to share who his favorite teachers are out of fear of hurting their feelings. 

Definitely has a bond with at least one facilitator, is probably friends with the janitor and cafeteria cooks. 

Wouldn’t hesitate to give his umbrella to someone if it were raining after school.

Found a blue-eyed kitten on his walk home once. It’s his now, he kept it, and Dazai absolutely adores it. 

Always has index cards or post-it notes on him to quickly write something down or give someone a piece of information. 

Makes specific playlists for studying different subjects. 

Kyoka Izumi: 

When she entered school, there was a lot of talk about her past; it ranged from what happened to her parents to saying she’d kill you if you even looked at her. Became a social outcast. :(

As soon as Atsushi caught wind of the rumors, he immediately shut them down, jumping to her defense whenever he could.

Now she’ll death glare at anyone being mean to him. 

Doesn’t understand the concept of a school dance, she only went because the others seemed excited about it. 

Actually ended up having a great time, replaying the fond memories in her head the next day. 

A sucker for bunny keychains. She has the one on her phone, yes, but also a few on her backpack and maybe pencil pouch.

Atsushi gave one of them to her for her birthday, she doesn’t even know how he found out when her birthday is.

She refuses to allow her phone to be confiscated (for obvious reasons).

Doesn’t use it in class or when she’s not supposed to or anything like that, but if a teacher is having a particularly bad day and decides to try to take it from her, her grip is unassailable.

Fukuzawa knows what happened to her, so he usually steps in to diffuse the situation and get the teacher to let it go.

She finds watercolor time in art class pleasantly therapeutic. 

The only one who helps Atsushi with the group assignment. 

Fukuzawa’s favorite student. They get each other. 

Kenji Miyazawa: 

Literally every teacher wishes they had him in their class. 

His only issue is that he keeps forgetting you have to wear close-toed shoes to school, he can never remember to change them.

So many athletic teams want him to join them, but he remains loyal to the garden club. 

Has impressed the school nurse with his home remedies. 

Has (unknowingly) talked down a few fights. 

Smiles so brightly in his school photo every year. 

Does well in the environmental/botanical portion of science class. 

Incapable of holding a grudge. 

Really dislikes doing dissections. 

The meals he brings from home are the BEST- everyone always wants to try a bite. Kunikida has to shoo the others away so Kenji doesn’t give away his entire meal. 

One time at a school soccer match, Kenji was watching from the sidelines with some friends and one of the players kicked the ball his way. He got hit smack in the face and fell over, everyone thought he was out cold and was ready to call an ambulance, but he just stood up and brushed it off like it was nothing. His nose bled a little, but he assured everyone that he felt fine.

They had him checked out by the school nurse that day just to be sure. Yosano had a look at him too. 

Returns every single pen and pencil he borrows. 

Had never seen mechanical pencils before coming to Yokohama, was absolutely fascinated. 

Yosano Akiko: 

No one actually knows what the inside of her bag or locker looks like.

“When you first meet her and wonder why she’s single and now you’re three months into the relationship and you know why.” (No Yosano hate, I just feel like this has happened to people who thought she looked approachable at first glance). 

Keeps a hairbrush and bobby pins in her bag.

Checks every box, the prime example of that friend everyone needs. She’ll stick up for you, provide you with things you need, is really nice to talk to, gives AMAZING advice.

Some people are afraid of her, which is kind of fair. 

Hands-on learning experiments in science class are her favorite. 

Actually enjoys dissections. 

The butterfly clip is OFF LIMITS. Absolutely no one is allowed to touch it. 

Hardly ever has to use a calculator, she excels at quick mental math and long division problems. 

Completely prepared to perform CPR, the Heimlich maneuver, etc. at all times. 

I feel like she would keep houseplants on a shelf somewhere. Simple ones, dark leaves and pretty blossoms. 

Professor Mori, the psychology and human behavior teacher, is the only person in the entire school who can give her the chills. 

Has known she wants to be a doctor since the beginning of her school life.

Fukuzawa Yukichi:

The only student that knows his complete backstory is Ranpo, and he won’t tell anyone else because Fukuzawa pays him off with snacks in exchange. 

I could only really see him as a literary teacher.

One time he accidentally mentioned that he has a cat in class. Every student erupted into a series of exclamations and demanded pictures.

Now they get him cat-themed gifts on holidays and for his birthday, the man could not be happier. 

Naomi likes to come talk to him about random thoughts she has, things her brother does, she treats him like another one of her friends. 

Has the scariest serious voice, it’ll make any student shut their mouth. 

Likes to eat his lunches outside. 

Kyoka is his favorite student. Ranpo too, of course, but Fukuzawa and Kyoka hold a special kinship.

A handful of students can sense the mutual war between Fukuzawa and Mori, the psychology professor across the hall. (I considered anatomy or something like that for Mori, I just feel like psyche would be more fitting for him to actually teach). 

Fukuzawa and Mori are the faculty members that have been at the school the longest.

One time Atsushi brought Fukuzawa a warm turvis of his favorite tea because he “just looked a little tired yesterday” and that’s when he knew that he would be keeping his job for a long time. 

Always cooks his own meals and brings them for lunch, would rather die than have to survive off of instant ramen or something like that. 

His class is the only one ever completely behaved during the fire drills.

Why do you believe that sskk are gonna defeat fyodor when I'm pretty sure they've never solved a conflict on their own before.

In the guild arc they defeated francsis but kyoka crashing the mobby dick into the see is what saved the city. In s3 they defeated the rock dude but the rest of the pm and Ada are the ones who stopped the virus ability user and in dead apple they defeated the main guy with kyoka . Not to mention that only time they did fight completely alone aktugawa hit the bucket (well not really but yk) and well yes they are stratigic they def can't outsmart fyodor.......bc yk it's fyodor

i have never been under the impression that atsushi and akutagawa's thematic arcs are to isolate unto themselves, or that fyodor needs to be defeated, or that the narrative supports resolving alienation through alienation. i think perhaps you mistook my comparing ssk and sskk's structural tag team for a lack of object permeance re: every other character, although deciding based on even that premise that i believe "defeating fyodor" could ever happen by sskk "solving it on their own" is a little contrived. I'd like to gently suggest that the two climaxes i was referring to are themselves happening in relation to and on reliance on the other, which is why it's meaningful as a pattern. like, in go, tesuji are used in tsumego situations in order to obtain sente, and, besides, yose is the end game, which only exists where there is a game.

anyway. I think I'd recommend going through my various bsd tags if you want my commentary on bsd's overarching themes and narrative culmination. and fyodor isn't difficult to outwit or read; the others do it frequently. fyodor is clever, sure, but to the extent that he's terrifying, it isn't because he's smart. it's because he has information the others don't, and uses it to convince them he knows more than he does. and even then, the others have, multiple times, fed him information that has kept him glaringly ignorant of resources he's shown to be scrounging around to find.

like, y'all are falling into the same spiral ace did when he arbitrarily decided fyodor could subsume others into fyodor's own version of reality, before voluntarily hanging himself on his distorted perception that fyodor could preternaturally distort his perception. Occam's razor fyodor every so often; if not for engaging with the story, then for the simple pleasure of watching a card shark in gremlin hours.

Dazai picking Sigma for his freebie has some parallels to him picking up Atsushi and even Akutagawa in a way. I definitely think--especially since the author likes Sigma--that it's likely Dazai is going to try to help him out.

Ranpo Edogawa Headcanons/Facts

-Ranpo wasn't born in the Yokohama and he had to take on many different jobs to earn money before he was a detective. He was often fired for being to cocky and not doing work just because "it wasn't interesting enough" or he just quit.

-Ranpo always looked up to his father and wanted to follow in his foot steps of being a detective but his father didn't want him to because is was "dangerous". So whenever his dad got cases he wouldn't tell Ranpo until he got back which sometimes he would disappear for days. This made it so whenever Fukuzawa leaves Ranpo alone for business Ranpo always gets nervous that he won't come back.

-It is canon That Ranpo is scared of the dark and sleeps witha night light.

-Ranpo can't watch or read Real crime books because he almost instantly Finds out how its going to end within seconds.

-Ranpo acts a bit childish now because he never got to have a real childhood. (Dad leaving for days at a time, Mom being sick)

-When Ranpo arrived at the ADA he never had to do the "test" for two reasons, One being the fact that he was the First ADA member and two being that When he first got there He would just start to show up to Crime scenes he saw and solve the case saying that he was already part of the ADA.

-Fukuzawa Always wanted kids but he never had the time to start a family so when Ranpo and all the other ADA members started joining he was happy. (He once over heard a conversation between Ranpo and Kunikida about how the whole ADA saw him as a father figure, but neither of them would ever admit they said that.)

-Ranpo actually needs Glasses and he knows that now but he used to think that putting on the glasses helped him see "Sharper" due to his ability.

-Ranpo and Yosano Have nights where they Stay late at the agency saying that they'd "lock the doors when everyone leaves" But instead they eat snacks and gossip about the agency. One time Dazai caught them and joined in on the conversation. (Fukazawa saw on the cameras the next morning)

-Dazai one, but the reason Dazai wears a Trench Coat is because it reminds him of Odasaku.

-Ranpos eyes were Brown in the manga just thought I would throw that out there.

-Ranpo is the only Character in the show that does not have a reference to the Author.

-In the anime Poe had admired Ranpo but in real life it was Reversed, Edogawas Pen name was based of a Edgar Allan Poe book.

-there has been a countless number of times where the power goes out at the agency and it goes pitch black that Ranpo would instantly Cling to the closest person and hold on to them until there's some type of light. Even if he was sleeping he would almost instantly wake up.(Not a Spoiler but in dead apple the power went out and he immediately woke up)

-Ranpo was kidnapped after he tried to track down a criminal by himself, and Fukuzawa saved him. He then gave Ranpo glasses to activate his "ability," as well as a place to belong.

-Ranpo is the oldest member at 26-years-old. Ranpo being the oldest member is mentioned when Atsushi asks why Ranpo does not do anything, as the other members say he does not need to because he is the oldest one.

While this is a cover-up because he cannot do everyday tasks without breaking anything, he is the oldest as well as the first member.

-Ranpo And Poe kept in touch after the Guild Arc and its canon that Ranpo try to feed Karl sweets. Poe panics every time.

-the Reason Ranpo where's his hat is because his dad wore the same one.

-Also Ranpo doesn’t read the newspaper because he's old its because when he was a kid he would read stories about his dad in the papers and it became a habit so he could see where his dad was and what he was doing.

-I know I already said he didn't grow up in Yokohama, but part of the reason he gets lost so easily is bc he grew up in the countryside.

Also the ADA has had to put up missing person flyer because they've lost him multiple times

-Ranpo gets frustrated really easily and when he does he just goes quiet. He’s also a silent crier

-Ranpo’s body falls asleep super easily and he gets super scared anytime he wakes up no not feel his feet

-Ranpo doesn’t know how to respond to stupid questions so he just stays silent and stares at whoever asked

-the reason why Ranpo's tie is so loose is because he had Fukuzawa tie it for him since he still can't master how to do it, and then he just loosens it and puts it on and off everyday without undoing the knot so he doesn't have to tie it

-Dazai was terrified of Ranpo when he first joined the ADA Because he was scared that he would tell people about Dazais old job

-Dazai and Ranpo have a silent agreement that when Dazai is out avoiding work he will bring back a snack for Ranpo.

-Kunikida has candy on him at all time for Ranpo.

-wide accepted headcanon that Ranpo has Autism

-Ranpo dressed up as a witch with his dad for Halloween and they took a picture near the fountain in Yokohama. (Where BSD takes place)

-Along with the Halloween one, When Ranpo first joined the ADA he saw Fukuzawa as a father figure. So that Halloween Ranpo bought the same witch costume in his size and recreated the picture of him and his dad with him and Fukuzawa. He now has both photos next to his bed.

-Part of the reason his eyes are closed all the I'm is because he has a hard time making eye contact

-Ranpo didn't have many friends as a kid because he would accidentally say something about other kids lifes (secrets, expose lies, stuff like that) because he thought everyone could see through the lies easily.

-Sometimes when he goes out to eat food he gets upset because the smell reminds him of his mothers cooking.
