I'm likely interpreting too much into my cat's behavior, but I swear he acts differently when he knows it actually is his dinnertime and he's been unfed vs trying to coax us into early dinner.

So not only does he trust his instincts to be right about dinner, he also thinks he can trick us into listening to him rather than our own "instinct" (the alarm on my phone).

what impresses me about animals who learn exactly when a certain time is, if i were that animal, i would constantly be second guessing myself. like, first off, if its 5 pm and I can't read that its 5pm, i'm not gonna trust my instincts on it. but even if i DID and went up to my human and INSISTED it was 5pm And Therefore Dinnertime, if my human was like "nah," then i'd probably believe them instead of me (even if it was actually! 5pm!). But animals who can sense what time it is don't ever do that. "Sorry buddy it's not 5pm yet," fuck off Debra. Debra i know it's 5pm and if you don't feed me I'm going to bite your ankles off. Damn i wish my brain was small enough to never question my instincts

can yall imagine the giddiness you'd be feeling if you were with astarion? cause like... i'd never digest it, i just couldn't settle down.

imagine having that gorgeous gorgeous man, so very charming and special and attentive and fun and sweet as your partner. sometimes he seems unreal, an eternal and divine being with starlight in his hair and passion in his eyes. underneath the snarky, flirty, uncaring performance is a person so unique, so enduring, so unfalteringly strong in his persistence. amidst the horror and abuse he didn't go crazy, didn't lose that innocent and yearning spark. you'd look at those vivid and expressive eyes, hear that wavering and genuine voice, feel those tentative and soft hands and you'd be undoubtedly sure of the goodness in him; the goodness within his capability.

imagine looking at a person so deeply precious and knowing he's been hurt and used so much. imagine feeling nauseous at the thought. imagine knowing that despite that he's still brave enough to seek and receive affection and companionship - the things he's never known and yet he has enough courage to trust you to show it to him. you're his first and only experience with softness and boundaries and a person who has never had control of himself has given himself to you - given you the chance to teach him.

you get to look at that inhumanely beautiful person, so very clever and appreciative, and you know that he chose you. he holds you so tightly because you're the first thing he's had. you're the refuge, the kind word and hand he never thought he'd have. sometimes you look at him and get struck with the potential and power in him, and not the materialistic, ugly power. the power that lies within a person who has emerged from agony and given the world a chance to treat him differently instead of giving up entirely.

he's all that and despite his bravado, you know he doesn't see it. you know he feels a phantom rot within himself. you know that he could be the most beautiful person in the world, and he will - with time and love and healing. and you get to watch it happen. and he cherishes every second you spend by his side.

thinking about waking up to find simon gone.

that night, you’d fallen asleep in his arms. he’d been unexpectedly clingy, without much explanation. unintentionally pinning you down with his weight, his buzzed hair lay soft against your bare skin. little light could sleep through the black-out curtains, and he liked it that way. no way was anyone getting as lucky as he was, to see you in your natural state. not even the moonlight could touch you, get into the room to distract him from his girl.

all you could sense as you fell asleep was the weight of your broad-shouldered boyfriend, wrapped gently around you, the sound of little whispers of "love you…" "darlin’… yer so beautiful…", and the sensation of his gentle breath against your collarbones as the words left his mouth. the whole room smelled of him. your whole apartment was full of him. just like you had been, only a moment ago.

it felt wrong to wake up without a strong, tattooed arm haphazardly stretched over you. to wake up without a great big soldier grinning at you as he wiped the sleep out of his eyes - without tender kisses and hushed giggling when he accidentally leant on your hair.

but as your eyes fluttered open, that was exactly the situation you found yourself in. the bed was empty, simon’s mask missing from the bedside table, and no simon gently spooning from you behind (he is always the big spoon… he loves that feeling of shielding you from the world).

the room felt cold, as if the heating had all stopped working. there was this… emptiness, that looked over everything like darkness.

after a while, it became apparent that simon was gone. not only was his mask missing, but so was his duffel bag, and the purple toothbrush that stood next to yours in the en suite. he’d left his phone charger though, definitely unintentionally.

a little yellow post-it note on the kitchen table. it read,

"sweetheart, i’m sorry, i had to go promise i’ll be back be careful remember: don’t do anything i would do

p.s. you look hot when you’re sleeping next to me"

please, lord, not again…

and when he comes back home, with a new scar across his arm, he drops his bags and takes you into his arms like he never even left. the first thing he says?

"fuck me, love, i missed you…"

and once his lips are pressed up against yours, he’s simply too busy to worry about words.
