I love the long video events that occur on tumblr like a holiday it’s so fun to watch a 3 hour video and go yeah that did happen in that video we all watched together

#I love communal experiences of media #I love to watch a show episode by episode and see the reactions to it as it comes out week to week #so obviously I’m gonna appreciate the plagiarism video that assassinated multiple careers in one go #it’s just fun to experience a thing and everyone else goes holy shit the thing #I had no idea anyone could plagiarize that hard and not get caught #academia broke me on how hard they’ll push citing shit into your brain #it’s sucks that the guy who plagiarized the words about queer people getting silence is actively silencing queer people #I’m glad someone looked into him and it makes me curious how often it happens on other channels and they just don’t get caught #probably a lot tbh if he got away with it for that long and could still get away with it

#O_O i really love him #it's getting warmer every day and i can't draw him in a sweater for much longer #by the way. is this site going to. yknow. die #sigh........i kept telling myself I'd get better at it one day #kind of like the way i tell myself i can get together courage to speak up but i never do #using another website just sounds so depressing #im not good at social media. im tired of pretending like i can get good at it #but you can't even pretend like you can jump into a conversation if no one is having a conversation #i wanted to be part of a community here but i never could figure out what belonging looked like or how i could do it #and maybe it's my fundamental misunderstanding of that that prevents it but how can i understand it without experience #I'm so jealous of everyone who looks like they achieved what i couldn't even put my finger on. but since i didn't even understand it #i can't even be sure what exactly im jealous of #the other day i walked past a trio of friends and they had their arms around each other and were laughing as they walked #and i felt really strongly that even though I've always wanted a friend like that I'm actually fundamentally incompatible with that.#there's several reasons #but it made me feel really sad. but it made me feel a little better too. i guess it's really not my fault. maybe. i don't really know #in that moment it felt very much like something that was not my fault. and it was nice and sad at the same time #idk what's going to happen here. but one thing i know for sure is that i can have a happy tomorrow. no matter what #no matter what i have to give up on. i can find joy in other things. even in myself #and if there's one idea that he is about. it's that one

i’ve been working on a research project about the local gay & lesbian club scene during the 70s and 80s (and am of course having an extremely difficult time turning up anything of substance because this is florida lmao) only to find my coworker’s wife was a drag king at one of the lesbian clubs i’ve been looking into and has lots of photos & info to share!!!

looking at some takes on characters or relationships or scenes in which things happen between them and just thinking,

How in the hell are people interpreting it this way??? But then i step back and realize that the story or character in question is fundamentally and extraordinarily different from the average person's life experience and I go,

DEEP traumas #shit that no human should ever go through and sounds almost cartoonishly evil #and the truth is #healing from that is UGLY. the impact it has on how a person interacts with their life is unimaginable #and it often makes NO SENSE AT ALL to someone who hasn't experienced the same shit #it's not as simple as 'i'm sad or scared and i cry easily but if youre nice to me and love me it'll go away'#in my own experience of loving someone like that #you sometimes have to work at helping them rewrite their entire philosophies.#things you wouldnt even think of #sometimes expressing sadness or pain is the hardest part about it because they're so used to turning the other cheek to survive #sometimes theyre so used to being manipulated that they reject any kindness you offer in the most viscerally violent way #and it hurts!#communication is HARD!#receiving love is HARD!#i was listening to Raon Lee's cover of Kokoronashi #and thinking about how raw the emotions are in the lyrics #and how so many average joes out there wouldn't be able to make any sense of it but those who do get it really get it #(essentially like... i think it's so crazy that i returned to fandom, specifically tumblr after being away for years because of the overwhelming need to consume byler content, and ever since then basically every other byler shipper i've come across has so so many shared specific interests and experiences just like mine?? and it's like, so incredible to find such a big group of people that has so much in common with you beyond the one reason that brought you together in the first place i get the feeling that even many many years after st has ended, the byler community will still be so tight and united, and even with people moving onto other interests, it's so likely that those new interests will also be shared

#the overlap in hyperfixations and favorite things is just wow #from things that are so personal and complex like the queer experience and/or being neurodivergent #to like VERY specific common interests that if i were to list them all...#and our love for dissecting media and how there's #so many bylers that will go on to be part of the film industry or writers or incredible artists #i know i've said this before it's just that i'm always blown away by the ways i feel so seen and understood #the ways i go 'they're just like me fr' at like every post in my dash #this is not meant to be a generalization tho #all the ways we're different are so wonderful too <3 #and it makes our community so vibrant and interesting #also thinking about the overlap of bylers and swifties love that for us #/end ramble #byler

i'm so convinced that every writer for every big show or movie that has the main character have an amputation is not personally close with an amputee

with the exception of maybe forrest gump bc i thought lt. dan was very convincing and compelling

but like. they make getting and maintaining prosthetics look easy. they make it look not very painful (or the pain is super temporary). they don't bring up the emotional distress being an amputee can create, and if they bring up the ableism, it's a distasteful joke. all the negativity is done upon amputation and never beyond. and that's just so unrealistic i think. unless i, myself, am the world's most sensitive bitchy amputee.

i am sick to death of every single instance of media with lgbt characters being described with a fucking slur by everyone who speaks about it. like it actively discourages me from wanting to put work of mine out there if i'm ever able to write it because if you describe the themes, characters, and stories i want to tell as "q***r" i'm fucking stealing something out of your house

the characters i create and their stories and experiences are informed so much by myself, my experiences, and my perspectives. i do not feel any sort of identification or kinship in a slur that is so widely used against people like me without our consent that corporations and cishets have gotten comfortable throwing it around, and it makes me feel queasy to think that people would use that kind of language towards me and towards my work without a moment's thought towards the history i or my loved ones might have with it

i'm not "q***r" and neither are my experiences or the characters and stories i want to construct to process things in my own life. please have an ounce of fucking respect for the fact that not everyone within our community is going to identify with a word that is used to this day to enact violence on us, especially in the current climate. i genuinely do not get why this is still considered such a big ask

#'this is a q***r story about q***r characters' at this point is a sentence utterly devoid of meaning #first of all it actively avoids any specificity or nuance which in media analysis renders it useless #is it a story about gay men's culture? about gender exploration? about lesbian identity? about bisexuality?#is it more abstractly about the difficulty to relate that many of us experience? is it about love? self love? community?#like aside from the harm inherent to the word & the way it inherently alienates large chunks of our community #it serves to say absolutely fucking nothing #which i understand makes it appealing as a personal identifier #and i get why a lot of people find comfort in it for that reason #and that's great! if it works for you then it's your prerogative #but when talking about other people and talking about media: if there's specificity then fucking specify #sorry i saw a post and it pissed me off #like no matter the rest of what you say nothing turns me off a post more than that basic refusal to use any other word #joshathan.txt

Bluesky art community loves ocs so much and is so supportive with oc art it's almost making me hate tumblr

#i think it's the only not art only social media where im seeing much more support for oc artist..#not talking about me or personal experience btw #when you go into popular art feed ect you see a lot of ocs #and oc art in general don't have less interactions than fanarts #also i know tumblr is a fandom space but pff.. even when i mostly follow oc artists i barely see ocs #and it's kinda depressing that even when you're an oc artist people will only follow you for that 1 fanart you post once every months #At least it's how i feel when i have 1k followers and 5-10 likes on oc art it's even worse than it was on twitter lately #and everytime someone follow me they do it right after liking a fanart of whatever fandom i don't plan on drawing anymore </3 #whatever bsky is cool i'm not gonna fight the fanart focused tumblr art community because for now i have a fun oc space #i have artfol as well but the community there is much smaller (which i like!! but i can find much more artists on bigger social medias :3)#anyway i love ocs.. mine :) and yours!!!!
