I saw some comments about whether or not Anne Hathaway looks too good in her new movie, and now, having watched the movie, I think it's actually a vital plot point that she's gorgeous. This entire movie hinges on her being so hot that a 20 something pop star immediately falls for her, and given that, I think she was absolutely perfectly cast.

I feel like a fic about Atsumu, Oikawa, and Bokuto finding their s/o reading fanfic about them would be hilarious
(You don’t have to do it if you don’t want to <3)
Have a lovely day and thank you if you end up doing this request <33333
a fantasy world
content info — gender neutral! reader, fluffy hq!! drabbles with some crack & hurt/comfort (sounds weird but bear w it, all separate). a teeny tiny bit suggestive in atsumu's part cuz he's a little shit.
word count — 1.9k words.
author’s note — holy HELL this is so late 😭 anon i hope ur still here, i made this pretty long so that's my way of apologizing. im also praying that atsumu is in character because this is only the second time ive written him. anyway, tysm for requesting!! hope u all like this <3
Tumblr media
MIYA ATSUMU
your eyes are obstinately glued to your phone, wholly transfixed by the words that were typed across the screen. not a single soul knew about your little hobby and quite frankly, it was likely better that they remained oblivious. you wouldn’t know how to react if anyone found out, but really, there was one particular person who absolutely had to stay unaware.
as it turns out, they were also the very subject of the story you’re currently reading—of course, none other than your sweet, beloved boyfriend, atsumu. not that the term ‘sweet’ was an especially fitting term for him. ooh, that was a sick burn.
now, obviously you loved the boy. atsumu was bold, intelligent, thoughtful, hardworking, and affectionate to the point where osamu and the rest of his team often complained about how shameless he was in front of them. his spirit burned bright with fiery ambition, glimmering red and orange and yellow, and he introduced a kind of light into your life that you had never quite experienced before. at first you were a little wary at first, a little blinded by how much he shone, but because you were just as stubborn as he was, you soon grew used to it.
if anything, you came to learn that atsumu was undoubtedly one of the most inspirational people out there. motivating his peers was like second-nature to him, and even if he didn’t consciously put in the effort to inspire them, he still ended up doing so anyway. his love for volleyball was blatant in its authenticity, in its obsession. so when coupled with his charisma, and, yes, his boyishly good looks, atsumu developed a serious kind of gravitational pull. it was no wonder so many people were drawn in—yourself included.
but, inevitably, something had to be sacrificed. your boyfriend’s devotion to the game often meant that you two didn’t get to spend much time together. if atsumu wasn’t practicing at the gym, then he was either thinking about doing it, on his way to doing it, or—this happens only under the direst of circumstances—recovering from doing it. he was, in every sense of the word, a workaholic.
you were fine with it for the most part, mostly because you had a busy schedule to deal with yourself. if you weren’t doing homework or studying for an upcoming exam for the sake of staying on top of your classes, then you were either fulfilling your duties as a student council member, playing your respective sport, or taking care of things at home.
regardless, there were still times when you wished atsumu was with you. it didn’t matter if he was spewing volleyball jargon, or forcing you to pepper with him, or anything like that. you just wanted to spend time with him, to actually see him and his stupid face and his stupid smile that you want to kiss so badly.
maybe that’s why you’re so zeroed in on the fanfiction you’re reading—to try and make up for what you’ve been deprived of for days on end. a very palpable twinge of sadness tugs at your heart. you push the unwanted sentiment to the depths of your mind, trying to focus on reading the story again.
god, what sentence were you even on? and why was the door suddenly opening—
“hey baby, did ya miss me?”
your soul leaves your body.
before you even have time to think, a shrill scream rips from your throat as you scramble to hide your phone underneath the covers. atsumu's jaw drops, completely and utterly befuddled by your behavior. after a moment he raises his hands in mock surrender. "jeez, darlin', it's just me. your boyfriend, remember?" atsumu says, brow raised. there's a mixture of emotions written across his face—slight concern, palpable amusement, even some suspicion. "what are ya hidin' there on your phone, anyway?"
finally, you seem to find your voice. "n-nothing important," you mumble, clearly and very intentionally avoiding the intensity of atsumu's hawk-like gaze. "i didn't even know you'd be visiting today.. thought you would be busy with practice again."
maybe it's because your boyfriend knows you so well by now, but he catches the hint of bitterness in your tone. his face softens, and he takes one, two, three steps toward you until he's taking up the space on your left. "coach called in sick, so mister perfect decided to just cancel practice for today," atsumu shrugs. you're still somewhat upset, but you can't help but smile at the setter's nickname for his captain—kita shinsuke, the closest embodiment of perfection that anyone's ever seen.
"i'm pretty sure i texted ya that i would be dropping by," your boyfriend adds, glancing over at you. cautiously, you pull out your phone again and open up the messages app. lo and behold, he did in fact text you, but you were too busy with your fanfiction to notice.
your face burns with the weight of your embarrassment.
a small chuckle escapes from atsumu's mouth. "wow, i haven't even done anything and you're already blushin' for me," he teases. you hit his chest halfheartedly, muttering about how mean he's being. you fail to notice the calculating glint in his eyes. you also fail to notice his hand wandering.
a second later, atsumu grins smugly, your phone held securely in his grip.
"what the hell, 'sumu?!" you screech, trying to retrieve the object in vain. "how did you even—"
"i'm good with my hands," he winks, and you don't even have time to scold him for the clear innuendo because he's typing in the password to your phone. all you can do is accept your fate as atsumu discovers the story you were reading.
as expected, he laughs. loudly. it's almost like the laugh he lets out whenever he wins a bet against osamu. you turn away, shame and humiliation gnawing at your chest. there's nothing more you want than to be swallowed by the floor beneath you.
however, when atsumu's laughter dies down a few moments later, you feel him wrapping an arm around your shoulder. "baby," he begins, voice still a little breathless from all his cackling, "why are ya reading this when ya got the real thing right here?"
you look up at him, a confusing mess of emotions swirling within your stomach. "because we don't seem to spend much time together anymore," you admit, lowering your eyes to the ground. "laugh all you want, but these stories are there for me whenever i need them. you probably think it's stupid, or pathetic, or whatever, but.. i miss you, 'sumu."
you close your eyes, preparing to hear another round of thunderous laughter. it never comes.
"open yer eyes for me, babe," atsumu's voice is unexpectedly soft, tender. hesitantly, you do, and your gaze meets his. your boyfriend reaches out, resting a calloused hand against your cheek. his touch is so familiar, so comforting, that you can't do anything else but lean in and welcome it. "i didn't know that ya were feelin' this way, and i'll admit that it's my fault for not noticing. but hey, you wanna know somethin'?"
"what is it?" you whisper.
"i miss ya too," your boyfriend confesses. he leans in, placing a soft kiss against your lips. "and tomorrow, i'm taking ya out on a date."
Tumblr media
OIKAWA TOORU
"oh my god, this is so cute," you sigh dreamily, swinging your feet in satisfaction as you indulge yourself. it was fanfiction, for crying out loud—can you really be blamed? this particular story practically reeked of fluff. you had just received flowers from the male lead, with you two having confessed just a few days ago. now you were on the first date, entering the doorway to a beautiful relationship that made every reader jealous.
the fact that the male lead—the infamous setter of aoba johsai, fanboy of iwaizumi hajime, hater of ushijima wakatoshi—also happened to be your boyfriend was just a minor detail.
you continued reading, the outside world completely irrelevant as you immersed yourself in the story. soon another squeal leaves your lips as oikawa, the male lead, bends down to kiss your hand. he says something swoonworthy, causing you to giggle like a madman. "that's it, i'm marrying you," you say, as if he can hear you through the story.
"marrying who?"
you let out a defeated sigh as your boyfriend pops his head into your room. there's a pout on oikawa's face, his mocha eyes filled with mock betrayal. still there's a part of you that knows he actually is a little bit jealous; he just doesn't know that technically, he's jealous of himself. "who are you marrying, babe?" he asks you somewhat accusingly. "i think it's a bit too early for—"
"shut up please," you groan, a bit sad that your reading session got interrupted. "i'm reading this fanfiction of you, and in the story, you're actually nice to me."
you immediately hear an indignant gasp from your boyfriend. he puts a hand to his chest, his pout now even more prominent. "excuse me, i am nice to you," oikawa scoffs as he walks over, squinting at the story you're reading. "i'm way better than him!"
"you are him," you deadpan.
"exactly! why are you reading that when i'm right here? i'm hurt," oikawa says in disapproval, shaking his head at you. "now move over."
you blink—once, twice. "wait, what?"
"i wanna read too," oikawa says as if it's the most obvious thing in the world, "so i can list all the things they got wrong about me."
Tumblr media
BOKUTO KOUTAROU
maybe reading fanfiction about your boyfriend wasn't the best idea. it's not that the story wasn't great because it really was—the characterization was on-point, the writing style was smooth and elegant, and the plot was creative. it's more about your boyfriend himself. particularly the way that he reacted when he found out.
"am i not good enough?" bokuto asked you quietly as he stared up at you. his golden eyes were absolutely despondent, his shoulders were slouched, and even his owlish hair looked like it was deflated. you didn't need akaashi to understand that those were all signs of an emo bokuto.
and it was all because of you.
man, the guilt was unbearable.
"koutarou," you say softly, reaching out to wrap your arms around his broad shoulders. "baby, you are more than enough for me. you're amazing, okay? you're my anchor, and you make me smile when no one else can. compared to you, this fanfiction means nothing." you pause, placing a tender kiss against his warm cheek. "seeing you sad makes me sad, you know?"
"i'm sorry," bokuto mumbles, burying his face in the crook of your shoulder. "i thought i'd let you down or something, like i wasn't being a good boyfriend. it scared me."
his words make your heart hurt even more. you pull away from the hug, letting your earnest gaze meet his. "from now on, you don't have to be scared," you tell him seriously. "i'll stop reading fanfiction, and every day, i'll remind you of how much you mean to me. is that fair, kou?"
bokuto nods, and it's at that moment that you start to see the gloomy aura around him disappear. "i love you," he says, and you can tell that he means it. he always does.
you pull him closer, your fingers combing through his hair soothingly. he hums quietly, enjoying the feeling. "i love you too, koutarou," you smile. "and no story will ever change that."
you let a few moments pass by, simply listening to the comforting sound of his heartbeat. slowly, you let your eyes close, your boyfriend's strong embrace lulling you to a light rest. after a few moments, though, bokuto's voice breaks through the silence. "can i ask you a question, babe?"
you open your eyes. "anything."
he pulls away, his expression completely serious as he looks at you. "can we get something to eat?"

Fionna and Cake theory: Simon the Artist
Tumblr media
Nothing like a good old creative panic attack.
Fionna and Cake good. Haven’t been excited about a show like this in a long time, though it being a part of Adventure Time does help quite a bit. I was holding on to some cautious optimism for the show when it was announced as yet another big IP series covering the multiverse (still waiting to groan at THAT scene where Prismo has to explain to us about there being infinite universes), but as usual, Adventure Time’s crew continues to surprise me with its creativity, humor, and thematic resonance.
The most striking part about Fionna and Cake so far is just how deliberately the show wants us to differentiate it from the original Adventure Time.
We’re getting shots where Simon pops an artery from his arm, a theme song that explicitly talks about suicidal ideation, discussions of rent and financial problems, and curses no longer disguised with AT’s usual dialogue. Adventure Time has always had violence, thematic density, and juvenile rating pushers, but they were always reserved at small points. Meanwhile, these are factors that are just casually shown and discussed in Fionna and Cake every 3 minutes or so. This is not an all-ages miniseries, it’s for young adults. (hint: this will be relevant later)
Let’s get right into it. This is much less a speculative lore theory and more on what thematic direction the story may be going.
Before we do, let’s get this out of the way first. This theory assumes that the current Fionna and Cake world is all a part of Simon’s head and not merely a separate multiverse, which… I’m certain is fact for the following reasons.
Tumblr media
The immediately obvious piece is that Fionna and Cake was always the Ice King’s fanfiction. Now if you’re versed in AT’s continuity you’re probably going to be asking about the red light in Fionna and Cake + Fionna and… I’ve no answer for it unfortunately. It’ll probably be relevant later in the series and possibly age this post like milk but for now, we’re not here to focus on the how, but the why.
Tumblr media
Second is that the intro and the ending of Ep 2 literally show Fionna’s world spilling right out of Simon’s head like an animated world out of a frozen brain. If that isn’t clear enough-
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Didn't realize this until writing, but these glasses are just plastic made to look like Betty's
There’s no other explanation for this other than that this world is artificial or influenced by Simon in some sense. Fionna even specifies that the statue went under renovation 12 years ago, but nobody seems to know who it is. Considering how Finn looks in the episode, it’s likely that it’s been that long since Betty’s sacrifice in the finale.
With that out of the way, here it goes.
The reason Fionna and Cake exist in the first place is because the creators found Natasha Allegri’s genderswap designs charming and wanted an in-universe reason to use them the Ice King wanted to create trashy, wish fulfillment through art. It was a phase.
Tumblr media
Definitely changed that image for publishing.
Simon can argue if they’re good or bad but it’s undeniably his art. It’s not just a portfolio he left behind in a closet, it’s an experience that was shared with a larger audience.
Tumblr media
And even if wasn’t liked at first, the citizens of Ooo seemed to have come around to it. And some of them love it!
Whether Simon likes it or not, he has a fan base that is so endeared to the story he made all those years ago that they demand he makes more. Why let a good story, loved by many, go to rest when you still have some life and creativity left in you?
Tumblr media
Can't move on in more ways than one.
Except, the problem is that Simon isn’t Ice King anymore. He’s aged out of it.
His real passion is history, he's an adult who who finds passion in the mundane and antiques from the past. And frankly, there isn’t much room for wish-fulfillment and fantasy anymore. Simon has responsibilities. He has a job and a daughter in a world that is moving faster than he can process.
And where Ice King wrote about looking for love, Simon has already had it.
Tumblr media
And lost it. His mind isn’t focused on the rosiness of finding new love, it’s grieving the one he already thought was the one.
Tumblr media
Wasn't he supposed to be good with kids?
Despite his new life experiences, all his peers seem to want from him is to make more of what they’re familiar with.
A story made from wants and wishes that he doesn’t even have anymore.
A story that was literally made by someone else at a different time. It’s a fiction he cannot connect to anymore, art that he’s embarrassed by. Yet also jealous of. Because at one point, the body Simon used to be in understood what exactly was missing from his life and could express that easily.
Seeing it again is like experiencing a retrospection of a cringey loser you don’t want to imagine having ever been. It’s not you anymore, and you don’t want to be reminded of that.
Tumblr media
Because despite him having a new creative passion, no one seems to care about that. All they want is Fionna and Cake. And what is more lonely than other people misunderstanding what you’re trying to express?
If I failed to make it clear somehow, my theory is that: Simon’s relationship with Fionna and Cake is a metaphor for creators growing out of their art. And this new Fionna and Cake world is still comfort art born out of Simon’s current desires and perceptions.
Tumblr media
The snippet subtitles this “child holding a phone”. I guess I’m wrong. Essay over.
Episode 1 and 2 both have direct parallels with each other. They’re both about a protagonist who are feeling displaced from their world, living a phase of losing a significant other, leaving a thankless job, wearing a mask of stability in front of the people they care for, seeking a guru at the heart of the forest, and concluding that they no longer belong in their current world.
Tumblr media
But more importantly, Fionna and Cake (the characters, the world, and the show) are no longer for an all-ages crowd. Fionna and Cake now feature young adults, curses, gore, alcohol, partial nudity, financial issues, morning routines, mid-life crisis, and overt suicidal ideation. These are the feelings that Simon relates to and possibly desires to express through art. Thus, his story and our new miniseries have warped that way.
Am I overthinking this? No. How dare you assume that.
Is equating the unconscious writings of his dementia-ridden self to Simon as his younger self seem a bit odd? ….Kinda. Again, it’s not the how but the why that matters in this case. I'm NOT crazy, I have proof that there is some acknowledgment of this directly in the show.
Rewatch the bar scene and apply this reading of the episode to what Simon says there:
Tumblr media
“Your old stuff, Fionna and Cake, honest to glob my man, is an inspiration to me.”
“My old stuff, I don’t really want to talk about my old stuff…”
“Why not? You should be proud! You wrote an entire extended universe in a fugue state if you think about it.”
"Simon cringes"
If you have ever shared art with a group of people in the past, you’ve had this conversation.
Not likely, not possibly, no perhapses. You HAVE.
And Fionna and Cake being an epilogue to a massive award-winning, near-decade-spanning, cultural sensation 5 years after it ended, might result in its creators feeling very retrospective about what audiences want from them now.
And how difficult it’s going to be to tell new experiences and tones from what’s come before. Also, come on. “Extended Universe?” That doesn’t sound like Fionna and Cake. That sounds a lot like something else.
Tumblr media
Again, seems bad with this kid.
One of the more profound shots in the main trailer for the show features the inconspicuously Finn-like kid crouching at her Fionna and Cake book in Simon’s trash. I believe this character is going to have a major role in two ways. Convincing Simon to be proud of what he’s accomplished and/or embracing that Simon wants to move away from his original work in order to create something new, or perhaps more likely, reinvent Fionna and Cake into what Simon relates to now.
We’ll just have to see what Simon thinks of his new Fionna next week.
PS. Talking as a fan now, WHAT IS UP WITH THE 1000+ TREEHOUSE IN THE INTRO?!!! ARE WE REVISITING THIS TIMELINE AGAIN?

spent a month reading Dra/mione fanfiction because so many people say it’s basically Zutara in a different font and I just??? Disagree??? Like I loved many Dra/mione fics I’ve read but it’s just…not like Zutara?
The enemies-to-lovers dynamics are super different because ATLA already handed us enemies-to-friends on a silver platter. The backstory and motivations of Zuko are extremely well-established whereas every fic has a somewhat different Draco. Katara and Hermione are quite different people too, though I think they’re more similar to each other than Zuko and Draco (and ofc the “under appreciated girl who bails out her friends” role is a big enough part of their arcs that it can override other dissimilarities). And no offence to my beloved ZK, but they’re not the most cerebral couple and they don’t have the “finally my intellectual equal” dynamic that I really like about fanon Dra/mione.
Dra/mione has way more of the romance novel dark fantasy dynamic that Zutara antis like to accuse Zutara of. And to be clear, good for Dramione shippers bc I support the female gaze. I’d actually say that Dra/mione is way more straight female gaze than ZK. With some Dra/mione fics, I get the feeling that I’d enjoy them more if I were more attracted to men. That’s a thought I’ve only rarely had about Zutara fics.
Anyway there are wonderfully talented authors who write for both ships, but I just think the comparison is a bit overblown. Enemies-to-lovers between morally incorrect boy x morally correct girl is a tried and true combination (notice I didn’t say bad boy x good girl, because ironically the biggest commonalities between Draco and Zuko is that they’re squares who want to maintain the status quo and please their dads, while Hermione and Katara are rabblerousers who would do unhinged things to get what they want) but there are many nuances beyond that. And if you’re a Zutara shipper getting into Dra/mione, it’s very possible that you’ll love half of the fics you read and be disproportionately squicked out by the other half (like me!).
I think Dra/mione fics can feature what a lot of antis accuse Zutara of being (oppressor x oppressed, dark and intriguing and toxic and passionate, self-insert wish fulfillment). What I appreciate about Dra/mione shippers, though, is how much they just don’t give a fuck. They like what they like, they don’t feel the need to apologize for liking a fantasy dynamic even if it’s sometimes toxic, and they will use Dra/mione fics to thirst after Draco Malfoy. I can’t really relate to these motivations, but I respect them, you know? Women should do what they want!

The Undeniable Queerness of Enchanté the Series
(thank you @ranchthoughts for letting me ramble about this in your inbox before turning my thoughts into a post)
there are bls and then there are bls. right? there are dead fish kisses and there are characters who kiss each other like their lives depend on it.
and enchanté firmly belongs in the second category. 1,500-word essay under the cut.
there is such a consistent and tangible queer undercurrent to everything that's happening on this show and i'm not just talking about the fact that several scenes look like they could be the opening scene of a gay porno. or the surprise bondage. or force in drag. or proposing marriage in front of the eiffel tower. no, there's this aching, desperate desire underlying everything. theo has--in addition to his main love interest--four very hot gay suitors who all very obviously desire him carnally... this is some sort of gay manic pixie dream boy wish fulfilment fantasy and i am absolutely eating it up.
there is a vibe to the show that @ranchthoughts called "fanfic-like", and i would argue that that's because enchanté is actually fanfiction of the little prince. (i'm planning on making a separate post soon about how the book was referenced on and used as inspiration for the show.)
enchanté is fully aware of its own fictionality. it is on-the-nose fictional. but that's what makes it so much fun--it's not trying to be something it isn't.
take the reading memories segments in episode 4 [3/4] for example: these scenes were incredibly cringe, like, full-on bad-green-screen terrible-costumes-and-wigs hilarious-acting cringe, but fully aware of their own cringe-ness. (also, gawin was both in drag and naked in the same scene as two different characters, like. get on enchanté's level.) (incidentally, can anyone tell me what character aou/phupha was supposed to be? i got detective conan, monkey d. luffy and momotarō for the others, but i'm stumped on phupha's character.)
and that self-awareness makes it camp! there is such a level of camp to the whole show which feels extremely intentional (especially in the first two thirds), almost like a meta-commentary: "this is the genre. we know it's stupid but we love it here", and i adore that. they know the tropes, they know the bl landscape, and they're just having fun with all of it.
and the whole set-up in itself is a queer allegory, isn't it? theo and akk are "from different worlds", so to speak, hindered in their love not just by their complete inability to communicate but also by their forced separation as children. when they meet again, theo doesn't really belong anywhere, he's an outsider both in france and in thailand, he is unable to act the way thai society expects him to act (e.g. failing to show the proper respect to the seniors), unable to get his parents to understand him while being actively lied to by them (the whole ocean of miscommunication in that family deserves its own post), harboring feelings for his childhood friend his whole life but unable to voice them in a normal sort of way, instead falling back on concocting the most convoluted, immediately backfiring plan to try to make akk jealous and get him to confess his feelings first.
theo is fundamentally isolated because he grew up between two cultures, and neither one quite fits him: when he's in france, he is comforted by thai food and the only people he's close with (his grandmother and sun) are from thailand like himself; but when he's in thailand, he can't quite get used to the social conventions and makes social blunders, he is very slow at writing in thai.
it's such a poignant queer allegory in my opinion. they didn't end up making as much a point of it on the show as they could have, but it very much informed my whole reading of the show and the characters. there is a sort of inability to articulate his experience surrounding theo that makes him even more isolated and screams "baby gay in need of a community" to me. having akk share his experience at the end is something that i'm not a big fan of for other, unrelated reasons (might make a separate post about enchanté's ending and why it fell flat for me), but when looking at it through this lens, it is the only way for akk to really get theo, to really understand his struggle on a fundamental level.
which brings me back to that desire i mentioned earlier: theo desires akk, very much so, there are a whole handful of scenes where akk gets close to him and theo closes his eyes, expecting to finally be kissed by him, but more than that, he desires understanding. he often brushes off his own difficulties and has a tendency to be emotionally clueless (for example about his parents' divorce), but what i see most in his character is the desire to be understood, to be seen by akk, for akk to see him for who he is and to love him for who he is. (akk, of course, has been doing both of those things all along. he's constantly taking pictures of theo, he's watching him through his window--with theo's full knowledge--he is always looking at him, he's always loving him.)
it's not inherently queer to want to be loved as we truly are, i believe heterosexual people experience this, too, but in the context of queerness itself, being perceived as queer by other queer people is indeed a fundamental aspect to experiencing queer love (maybe not in gay for you bls, but i haven't heard of much gay for you happening in real life). not to be unscientific about this, but the vibes of the perception aspect of enchanté are just very queer to me, you know?
oh, and speaking of desire: enchanté in general is very physical. there is a level of intimacy between the actors and the camera that seems incredibly intentional: there are several shower scenes, scenes of theo and akk shirtless, TWO (2) nude gawin scenes (though one of those is sadly a fake-out and he is actually wearing shorts), many, many scenes that include bare feet, which is not something i see super often in bl, at least not to the point that i notice the frequency of it.
enchanté is very rooted in the physical reality of desirable bodies: theo is allowed to openly, physically flirt with saifa, even though that's not even his endgame love interest, phupha uses physical touch in his pursuit of theo, natee shows his obsession with theo by drawing his face/body about a hundred times, and akk and theo are wholly unable to keep their hands off each other. i've joked about the intricate rituals, but seriously, they are constructing so many intricate rituals. there are two separate scenes in which they make up excuses to kiss each other's elbows/arms/backs. they keep touching each other in a thousand ways, in every possible way they can that is still plausibly deniable as physical desire--until they kiss while watching that movie and then it's just a game of chicken of who will confess first. because their physical attraction to each other is undeniable. it's obvious. this was really refreshing to see in a genre that so often plays with the blushing maiden trope, and one character is so often made to pursue the other: on enchanté, akk and theo are equally horny for each other. it's not their lack of physical attraction that keeps them apart for so long.
(sadly, the show then shies away from actually getting very sexually physical: after their desperate, stunning, amazing balcony-kiss, they aren't allowed to be horny for each other in the last two episodes, when they're actually in a relationship. this is just one of the many aspects that i didn't like about the conclusion of the story, because you simply cannot tell me that these two as we got to know them in episodes 1 to 8 would really be as chaste with each other as they're shown in episodes 9 and 10.)
leaving that aside for the moment, let's talk about that kiss. as mentioned right at the beginning, when these two kiss each other on the balcony, it's desperation in its rawest form. these two--and especially theo--crave each other. theo kisses akk like he will die without him. theo kisses akk like he can finally breathe. theo kisses akk like he never wants to do anything else ever again.
i'm a bit obsessed with book's acting here, because of all the kissing scenes i've seen him in, i think this is THE most desperate one. force plays it a bit more subtle, but book's expression is full-on anguish. theo waited his whole life to be kissed by akk, and book portrays that so beautifully, with such depth. it's one of my favorite bl kisses for sure, it's played with so much heart, so much feeling, that it's hard to even think of kisses that compare, apart from the bad buddy episode 5 rooftop kiss.
anyway, all of this to say that enchanté to me is deeply, lovingly queer, and it's a shame that so many people are sleeping on it. (and that includes myself, i was wary about watching this show for a long time because i'd heard so many negative things about it.)
but i'm here to tell you: watch enchanté. it's wonderful, it's hilariously funny, it's endearing, it has book and force in it, and it is extremely queer.

this has probably been touched on before but so much of fionna and cake ties into the theme of self-value and self care by making references to (what is traditionally viewed as female-centered) fan culture and specifically the debate around whether fanfiction should have “some basic level of quality” or whether it should be considered an unbridled form of self expression closer to art therapy than writing a professional novel (it obviously comes down on the side of the latter)
the theme of Simon not wanting to discuss his “old stuff” that he finds embarrassing and painful because he wrote it in a very bad place mentally, what he sees as mediocre, emotionally masturbatory wish fulfillment that says way too much about his psyche, although it’s shown that other people get a lot out of the Fionna and Cake series, suggesting that it’s a versatile work of fiction which readers can interpret to fit their own emotional needs even if it’s not exactly “high art”
or Scarab’s ultimately self-destructive obsession with wiping out what he considers a “mediocre” “abomination”, even though everyone around him is telling him to chill and let it go and focus on more important things because it doesn't really matter. for years, and even today, fandom has been plagued with (usually cishet male these days, but women used to make up a far larger portion of the snark/anti-fan community) fans who don't only dislike shipping and original characters, they actively seek out creators who do enjoy these things to harass them. or, I'm sure you've seen those people on twitter who get really mad about the fact that leaving long critical notes on ao3 fics (when not prompted or specifically requested not to) is widely considered Pretty Fucking Mean
both Simon and Scarab are basically being told by the narrative to take it easy, to not care so hard about like, the ontological definitions of "art" and "quality". Simon learns to value Fionna and her world, realizing that they have a life beyond the circumstances he believed he created them under. (but when he again tries to assume control, to sacrifice his own well-being for people he feels are more deserving of love than him, his space god girlfriend basically slaps him and says "you are so special and amazing on your own simon, you don't need to hurt yourself, you don't need to try to handle everything by yourself, and actually sacrificing yourself when you don't need to is kind of a dick move, and yes I know from experience because I'm omniscient now" [which ties into what's kind of the thesis statement of the show, Simon and Fionna both feeling like they're not special and don't deserve to exist or receive care and affection because they aren't exceptional, ie don't have magical abilities/live in an adventurous fantasy world; basically, you don't NEED to be super talented and amazing and saintlike to deserve to be happy, you just need to BE, and do your best as a human])
FOOTNOTE: when Scarab told Fionna that what she did wrong was exist, it was painfully reminiscent of transphobic (and anti-ND) harassment (and ultimately added another layer of satisfaction and validation to his defeat) and tbh it's hard for me to believe the writers didn't intend that at least subconsciously

The Light Organ by Flore Picard
About Flore Picard: I’m a linguist and translator who lives in France and I have been itching to write since I learned how to. I started writing (fan)fiction more regularly when I was procrastinating on my PhD dissertation, and I haven’t looked back since. I’m also an artist who loves drawing both fanart and original art, and I have a passion for patterns and systems, for the beauty at the edge of chaos and the complexity of being human. I tend to write about queer and disabled characters finding themselves and each other and learning to take up space in the world.
Links: Instagram | Twitter
This is Flore’s first publication with Duck Prints Press.
Title: The Light Organ
Tags: angst with a happy ending, capitalism is the real villain, coming out, disabled character, emotional hurt/comfort, family, fraught family dynamics, illusion, in the closet, magic use, mechanic, musician, non-binary, parenthood, present tense, science fiction with magic, teenager, third person limited point of view, transphobia (mentions of) (past)
Excerpt:
“No, no, no—the organ, the light ring—it’s all about the imagination, not the mechanics,” Kas exclaims, gesturing widely to encompass the aether pool behind the glass.
“I’m just here for the tubes,” the tech—Gilbert—says flatly.
His face betrays no emotions, not even annoyance. Kas almost wishes he would yell or be rude, if only for the sake of feeling like they’re having an actual conversation, but Gilbert has always been polite. He just never seems to care.
“Fine,” Kas gives up. “We’ve got glitches. They started about a week ago. It could be a leaking tube, I’m not sure.”
“What kind of glitches?”
“It’s as if… as if the story stops responding to me. I know how that sounds, but I swear that’s what happens. It doesn’t last more than a few seconds, but it’s getting worse. Earlier, I powered everything up to tune it and it kept flickering.”
“Flickering,” Gilbert repeats, mumbling into his neatly trimmed beard.
Kas grabs a cane in each hand and makes their way to the organ’s seat. “I can show you.”

You’re Gonna Get Older by Alec J. Marsh
About Alec J. Marsh: Alec lives in the Pacific Northwest, where they write romantic adult fantasy and self-indulgent fanfiction. They make candles inspired by their favorite characters.
Links: Etsy | Instagram | Twitter
Alec is one of the editors for Aether Beyond the Binary and has also published multiple titles with Duck Prints Press. His novella To Drive the Hundred Miles (modern, f/m, trans male lead) was recently successfully crowdfunded and orders fulfilled. His two erotica stories Heart’s Scaffold (sci-fi, m/m) and Study Hall (modern academia, m/m) are part of the Contributor Short Story Bundle add-on.
Title: You’re Gonna Get Older
Tags: arranged marriage, christian, coming of age, coming out, cults, fraught family dynamics, friends, in the closet, lesbian, midwest, misgendering, non-binary, north dakota, past tense, post-apocalyptic, relationship of convenience, religion, song fic, teenager, third person limited pov, trans man, trans woman, transphobia
Excerpt:
There was a radio in the room, an old two-way they had found on their last visit and hidden in an empty supply closet. It was still there. They slid open the battery pack and snapped in a fresh battery from their aether lantern. Chips of the meteor had been encased in metal tubing to mimic the lithium batteries of the Before, but they were precious and had to be used sparingly. Stardancer knew better than to use precious energy on something this frivolous.
They popped the battery cover in place and pressed the power button. It crackled to life. They cradled it like it was made from glass. The dials made a tak-tak-tak noise as Stardancer scrolled through channels. Music came through softly. It faded in and out, cut through with static, but it was music, and not the kind made on an acoustic guitar. They adjusted the antenna and turned up the volume.
It was like nothing they had heard before, fast paced with a heavy beat. Even over the fuzzy AM connection, it was invigorating. They wanted to dance. They wanted to sing along with words they had never heard before. The singer screamed their triumph, and Stardancer felt invincible.
There's no time like right now to become a backer and help us reach 100% funded! Check it out!

oh my GOD I love your isekai warriors au.... I love that the isekai trope is becoming a lot more popular, especially in anime... please tell me more about it!!
shaking ur hand rn hello fellow isekai anime/other mediums fan :3c FIRST lemme go on my tangent about this genre and my main inspo because wow this got way too long lol
isekai is total comfort food for me haha it's my go to genre of manga/manwha/webcomic reading whenever i'm feeling down and while i generally feel the genre is getting bloated and somewhat stale in anime, i still enjoy it quite a bit. It's a cute idea with a lot of potential, i just wish less of the shows went for the wish fulfillment route of things since we have so many by now.
mine is very inspired by a lot of korean manwha style stories in which the protag gets trapped in a show/game/book/etc. and has to deal with it, specifically what if you became the villain of a story. A lot of them play off the trope of the one dimensional evil villainess and how an average person would have to deal with coming into the body of someone like that and dealing with consequences. That, or it's the tragic villain, someone's who's life is marred by tragedy usually of their own doing.
The most interesting ones are those that play on how character archetypes would actually work in the story. The cold bad boy is just a shitty abusive guy, the shy guy who follows the girl is kind of a stalker, and so on.
One of my bigger inspirations was a plotline that also stuck out to me: a teen girl who died too soon and got reincarnated as the mother of the protagonist. obviously she has no clue what to do, she's a kid who wants to go home! And the only way she thinks she can is by ensuring the story goes as planned (and this of course is doomed from the start, unbeknownst to her, the villain is a reincarnater too and has already made tremendous changes). She dies and the reader never knows if she gets to go home or not. It's kind of this rough around the edges gem of an idea that I love and obviously had to steal for myself.
note for anyone getting intrigued by my descriptions uh a lot of these stories tend to be pretty shallow in their exploration. this subgenre consists a lot more of wish fulfillment/revenge fantasies comparatively to like a deep dive of "oh my god i've fucked up the narrative". Not to say they don't have interesting ideas! many are super interesting. just like. temper your expectations if you're going in
originally the story was gonna be set in a canon arc but that felt boring so i decided to just make up a whole story for it
The story is meant to be a (loving) poke at old fanfiction, common tropes in the aforementioned subgenre of isekai, and just a general ""cliche"" Warriors series (in the human universe here, I figured it's call Battlers/Battle Cats or something stupid lmao). In this story, Frostblaze is born into [ONE OF THE FOUR FAKE CLANS I HAVENT FIGURED OUT NAMES YET IM SORRY]. She's the born to an unnamed mother who tragically died of illness when she was just a young baby and has no clue who her father is.
She's isolated from her peers due to her eyes which some believe are an omen of her unnaturality. This only worsens when she is apprenticed to their Clan leader and causes Honeypaw, the daughter of the Clan leader, to become enraged with jealousy. She is one of Frostpaw's worst tormentors in the early parts of the book and eventually, during a battle, tries to off Frostpaw herself....but is killed by Frostpaw's love interest, the dashing and handsome (if a bit stupid) Eaglepaw of [INSERT RIVAL CLAN HERE].
The two hit it off (Honeypaw is an after thought at this point) and work together to stop the eeevviilll leader of uuhh eviiiiilll clan. They win, live happily ever after, Frost is actually their Clan leader's daughter and Honeypaw is her half-sister and blah blah blah.
At least, they're supposed to. Honeypaw, out hunting, is hit by a truck at the same time a human is. Human wakes up as a cat about to be buried because everyone thinks Honeypaw is dead and freaks the fuck out.
A lot of the plot points are kind of just me working through my gripes of the subgenre lmao:
"the person who is reincarnated is more adept and cool and better than their character and everyone loves them" -> Honey is awkward, neurotic, and can come off as rude to those who don't know her. Even her coolest trait, her wrestling ability, is off-putting because oh my god why are you putting a cAT IN A SPIDER GUARD THEIR SPINES DON'T BEND LIKE THAT HONEY PUT HIM BACK TO NORMAL-
She reread the story before she died but, because she has no pen, no paper, and sadly of all, no thumbs, she's unable to write it down to keep remembering it when she gets sent to this world. It's awful and she desperately wishes she had thumbs back.
she stands on two legs, makes weird comments alluding to being a human, and just is a bit of a weirdo. Honeypaw was isolated for being mean, Honey is isolated for making everyone uncomfortable (unintentionally). However, her isolation allows her to slip under the radar and do some more investigating, as she's noticed that some of the details in the story aren't adding up...
The story is strange and the characters aren't as she remembers now that they're in the flesh. Of course, her main priority is to thwart Honeypaw's assassination attempts, the spirit being intent that the way to get her body back is if she dies again. It's only from a near death experience that they realize that that's not gonna work and have to work together to change the story so they don't die!
and, as many people have pieced together, they're not alone.

you don’t have to post this but your tags on that buddie not having safe sex post is soooo right like so much of fic is a fantasy why do we need to shoehorn in some sort of “I’m clean!” convo constantly especially when it’s not in character is so frustrating
anon i am going to answer this because i love to yap about things that dont actually matter that much or even at all <3
LITERALLY though like if we’re coming at this specifically from an angle of explicit fanfiction that is a form of pornography. pornography is a form of fantasy fulfillment. nobody should be getting their sex education from fantasies. that is for actual research and education. i was lucky enough to take a human sexuality psych class late in high school and have parents who never beat around the bush so i love to read fanfiction/watch porn where im like yayyyy no actual people should be doing this like this but it sure is sexy in theory 😁😁😁😁 but i simply dont see the appeal im putting a sex ed spark notes course in you 12k praise kink dom/sub fanfiction
like in character or no (i literally actually personally disagree with op from a strictly canon perspective that if buck and eddie were to have sex that it would be out of character for them to have that specific discussion about condoms like i do think its in character that they would want to be safe but that also doesnt matter at all and i dont think theyre ever actually gonna have sex) what does the author get out of writing that in. because clearly theyre being titillated by the act of writing this do they think it adds to the eroticism to flesh out a conversation between the characters theyve been ramping up tension between to put a giant pause on that and go over each and every one of their turn ons/turn offs? to think of a safe word neither character is gonna use? it simply doesnt make sense to me to put any of that in what is om every single level a wish fulfillment fantasy. but maybe this is also because the hardcore kink scene is not particularly my bag and i think its trite and distinctly unsexy to put those kind of hard limits and rules on sexual relationships. maybe every one of these fic authors is a card carrying kink club member and they find those discussions hot. but personally my hypothesis is that theyre aware that not everyone whos gonna be reading their fic is fully educated on n consent discussions and want to provide a sort of baseline for the chronically online and sexually undereducated. which is not a bad motivation but also kind of excuses that behavior in a way? like oh well no one ever gave me the sex talk but i know what a will/want/wont list is vaguely so im prepared to have sex with real life people. idk its just the issue of normalizing sex ed from porn all over again and it annoys the shit out of me

Hey! I Love Stormbreak, you make my Sundays less scary Lol. Keep writing!
I was wondering if you've ever written any original work or if you've ever considered becoming a traditionally published author?
aww thank you so much! always happy to help with the sunday scaries, i get them too and answering comments is an excellent distraction hehe
i have written some original work before, but none of it's published. when i was really young i wrote two novel-length original works. i don't remember them very well, but one was some elf-like fantasy world where the main character was the bastard slave child of an evil king, and the other was a modern setting with vampires and what i know as an adult to be some kind of illegal human trafficking? not like a sex kind, like a "humans are living blood bags" kind. so you can definitely say i've enjoyed whump and fantasy from the beginning?
in more recent years, i've written some short stories (<10k words). there's one about a society that uses happy memories as currency, with a mom giving up a memory of her daughter walking for the first time. there's another about an astronaut who's sent to mars to help terraform it, only to realize she's been tricked and the government is leaving her there to die. my favorite is about a closeted lesbian witch in a salem-esque setting who's driven insane by the ghost of her first love, who was a victim of anti-witch hysteria. so again... heavy on the angst lmao.
right now, i enjoy writing fanfiction because it requires very little actual effort and discipline. it's almost entirely wish fulfillment, and you get to jump in with fully-formed characters, world, and plot, skipping the boring exposition. it's also "safe" because any pressure to create, or criticism, is purely online, so i never feel trapped by it. i think this type of creative writing suits my current situation (sleep-deprived phd student) where i just don't have a ton of time or patience to deal with any of those things.
all that being said- i DO very much plan on spending the majority of my life writing and publishing original works of varying lengths. i'm in a very fortunate financial position where i don't actually have to work a regular job, and the older i get the more i appreciate how privileged that makes me in my ability to actually center my life around creating for creativity's sake- completely divorced from any need to publish by a certain date or appeal to a wide audience in order to make profits. so i only plan on really working up until i turn 30 (which will admittedly still give me 6 years post-phd in the workforce). after that i'll have full reign over how i allocate my free time, and that's when i'll be able to put in the elbow grease required for a longer original work.
...so like a decade from now, check back in and there will probably be some highly dramatic, psychologically intense, at least somewhat magical works hitting the shelves, written by yours truly.

Hello lovely readers! Today I am so excited to bring you an interview with Ella, also known as ynhpstories on Wattpad and TikTok. Many aspiring authors, including myself, have been motivated by Ella's talent as a content developer. She is an inspiration to many and has a unique and distinct style that stands out.
In this interview, I get to know more about Ella and her journey as a creator. We discuss her creative process, the challenges she has faced, and her advice for aspiring content creators. So, join me as I get to know more about Ella and her journey!
Hua Wang: It's truly incredible to read what you have created. Your talent for creative writing is truly remarkable, and I am in awe of the stories you tell.
I am curious to know what themes you explore in your writing. What topics do you focus on, and how do you go about tackling them? Do you enjoy delving into themes that are grounded in reality, or do you prefer to explore more fantastical concepts? How do you approach these themes and make them come alive on the page?
Ella: A lot of the non-book themes are based on real-life situations, such as anxiety, depression, and low confidence. I explore them through many different ways my characters express themselves. I find them easier to talk about because they are loosely based on things I have experienced, so I want to share with others that it's okay to feel like this and that there are people around us who care about us and will always support us. I also like to explore more lighthearted and fantastical themes, like those that are seen in the books, like magical powers and abilities. I want to create a balance of fantastical and grounded themes to create an atmosphere that feels both realistic and fantasy at the same time.
Wang: It's really awesome to hear that you draw from your own experiences to create the characters in your work; not many people have the courage or the ability to do something like that. The way you explore topics through your characters is truly fascinating. You have a knack for bringing depth and life to them, and it's really impressive. I'm sure your readers appreciate the effort and thought you put into your work. It's also impressive to hear that you are striving to balance the thin line between reality and fantasy in your work. It can be a tricky endeavor, as the two can often become entangled and blended, but you manage to add all these remarkable elements of fantasy that really make it come alive.
Ella:Aww, thank you so much. That's so kind.
Wang: There is no need to thank me. You have a lot of talent. So, in response to one of the queries I get while writing new stories for my school, we can only imagine the difficulties you've had to overcome in order to bring your stories to life. So that takes us to the question or questions. What obstacles have you encountered while creating fanfiction? Is there anything in particular that has been particularly challenging to overcome? How did you keep motivated and inspired during the process? I'm sure your readers would love to hear about your experience and the most fulfilling aspect of creating fanfiction.
Ella: In the 2020 lockdown, I went through a really rough patch for my mental health. I felt really alone and down, and I felt like I had no one to talk to. So when I tried to portray some of these feelings in my writing, I was writing a particular rough chapter that included mentions and descriptions of SH and mental health. And it suddenly brought me back to that time in my life. I had to physically stop writing it for a week so I could process how I was feeling. I was really close to deleting the chapter because it was so impactful for me. But I knew if I deleted it, I wasn't going to do any favors because I wanted to show these themes to let people know they are not alone. So the feeling of shining light on these themes for people who are struggling kept me motivated, and now it's one of my favorite chapters because it is so raw and vulnerable, but knowing that there were people there that supported Y/N through it made it worth it.
Wang: I understand how difficult it can be to write about a difficult chapter in your life. Especially when it is something so personal and painful as self-harm. It is admirable that you are willing to open up and share your experience.
I understand how difficult it can be to talk about painful experiences, especially when it comes to self-harm. I have had my own struggles with it in the past, but I'm proud to say I have been clean for a long time now. It wasn't an easy journey, but I am grateful for the people who helped me along the way. Now, I can talk about it without being overwhelmed with pain.
Ella: That's great to hear! I'm glad you got through that and that it's okay to talk about it; it's admirable!
Wang: Thank you.
Wang: Getting back to the interview, that certainly got a bit sentimental! To lighten the mood, here's a funny Harry Potter-related joke: Why did the goblin cross the road? Because he was the Minister of Silly Walks!
Wow, that was horrible. Well, now we know why I'm not a comedian. Anyways, Writing characters is one of the most fun parts of writing fanfiction, don't you think? Out of all the characters you've created, which ones have been your favorites to write? What qualities make them special? Do you love their backstory, or perhaps the exciting adventures they go on? It's always fascinating to explore the lives of these beloved characters. Y/N Lupin is my absolute favorite character, and I could read about them all day. I love all four fanfics, but the one about the roller coaster-like love story of Fred Weasley and Y/N Lupin is definitely my favorite; it's so much fun.
Ella: A lot of the characters that weren't in the books are loosely named after my friends; some have different names, some have their own (depending on their preference). The character 'Katelyn," who has currently appeared in one chapter of the Y/N Lupin story, is completely based on one of my best friends, and there is still so much I'm going to explore with that character, including a love life! Another one of my favorites is the parents and grandparents of Y/n in 'More than Friends." They are based off my parents and my maternal grandparents' personalities to a T. It's always fun making characters based off people I know. I also love making Y/N in any book a fun but relatable character. They are all my favorites for many different reasons. Y/N Lupin shows my more emotional and vulnerable side. Y/N Lestrange shows my confident and insecure sides. And Y/N Bailey shows a side of me that is an absolute badass; I love the energy they give off, and my story lines bring out the best (and worst) of each character! Don't worry. There is more to come for the love lives of Fred Weasley and Y/N Lupin!
Wang: It is truly incredible how you take the people in your life and transform them into characters that we can all relate to and care about. It's a powerful testament to your creativity and imagination that you can take the people you know and turn them into something new and exciting. It's also a wonderful way to honor the people who have made an impact on your life. Through your stories, you are able to give them a lasting legacy and remind us of the importance of the people around us. The characters you create bring out the best in people and inspire us all to be better versions of ourselves. It is truly remarkable how you can take real-life people and craft them into memorable characters that we all love and cherish.
Ella:Aww, thank you.
Wang: Have you considered teaming up with other fanfic writers to bring your ideas to life?
Ella: No one has really reached out about it, and I would be open to it if their goals for writing are similar to mine. I don't want to go so far out of my writing style that the themes I make clear vanish within it.
Wang: We are almost at the end of this interview, and we have just three more questions to ask. One of them is related to your familiarity with the Wizarding World and other genres or fandoms. Are there any particular genres or fandoms you are more familiar with other than The Wizarding World?
Ella: Ooo, it's tricky because all the other fandoms left my head. I really do enjoy the Heartstopper fandom because it's so open and honest about those topics. So I've tried to bring some of those topics into my story. That's the only one I can think of right now.
Wang: I'm curious: how do you handle feedback on your work or criticism? It can be difficult to accept criticism, but it's important to remember that it can actually help you grow and improve. Do you strive to take feedback in a very modest, honest, and fun manner? How do you use it to your advantage?
Ella: Most of the time I use it as a learning opportunity, but there are many parts of my first fanfic that I would change. The readers give me ideas on what to avoid, so I will listen to them and see if it actually works. But I have had a couple of rude messages, and I don't let them affect me. But I've also kept my first fanfic exactly how it is; I'm not going to change anything in it to show that feedback can improve someone's writing, and I will make every recommendation happen in the way that they would like it to!
Wang: What advice would you give to a beginner fanfic writer?
As a seasoned fanfic author, I'm sure you have a lot of experience and wisdom to share. What tips and tricks do you have to offer those who are just starting out? What would be the most important things to keep in mind when it comes to writing fanfiction? What did you wish you had known when you first started writing?
Ella: There are a few things I wish I knew: 1. The name and cover of your book have to be appealing and interesting; if they're generic, fewer people will click to read them.
2. Make the description exciting—it draws more people in to see what things your characters get up to!
3. It's okay to take breaks. Burnout is a normal thing when writing; it's okay to stop and have a few weeks off. I haven't published anything in a while because the more you put it off, the worse burnout gets.
4. Don't expect to have the first chapter blow up; my books always took the first 3–4 chapters to be published before I saw reads that I was happy with. People normally come back to the book when there are more chapters left.
5. My favorite one: just be you—don't let one comment about your writing style stop you from writing or change the whole theme of your book! You should write something you are proud of, so make that one silly moment in your book, retell that story over and over again, and use the writing style you want! It's uniquely yours, so be proud of it.
It's always tough to start writing a fanfic, and there are so many reasons why. But remember to always stay true to yourself and make something you're proud of, because it's so much more rewarding that way!
I want to thank Ella for allowing me to interview her and giving me the opportunity to learn more about her and her work. I would like to give her a huge shout-out for her amazing work on both Wattpad and Tiktok. Everyone should definitely go check out her accounts on both platforms and read their stories. It has been a pleasure interviewing Ella, and I wish her all the best in her future endeavors.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this interview with your favorite fanfiction author! We hope you enjoyed it and learned something new.
No matter where you are or what time it is, we wish you a wonderful day or night. Take care of yourself and have a great time.
Goodbye, Amores!

The thing that gets me about My Immortal (the fic) is that it's so pristine in how the chronotope operates in it that, whether or not it was a troll fic, there was an incredibly deep knowledge of the time and culture it spawned from in order to make it so impressively referential.
Troll fics that are meant to ridicule don't tend to be as impressively and swiftly tied to the perspective they're referencing, because the idea of being "better than" always ends up breaking the illusion of belonging to what they're making fun of.
For example, the most famous self-insert troll fic of all time has to be A Trekkie's Tale, because people have come to use the term "Mary Sue" outside of the fanfiction world, even unknowing of the fact that that's where it originated from.
But A Trekkie's Tale uses the clear perspective of the fandom side that was doing the ridiculing (in terms of those days, we could say Trekkers) to tell the story as if it was from the perspective of the side being ridiculed (Trekkies). Basically, it's the narrative of the Trekkie fantasy told through condescending Trekker perspective, if you will.
Of course, there wasn't in it an intent of making it pass for anything other than a satire and intending to make fun of a portion of the fanbase that the author and some of the fanzines didn't align with. But, because of that, it says more about the fandom division at the time and what kind of content each side was willing to entertain, more than it does tell us about the Trekkie mindset it was trying to ridicule.
My Immortal, to anyone who was remotely involved in an alternative/emo/goth/etc. online community (especially those that also had some sort of media tie-in, like books, anime, etc.) in 2006-2009, is like Remy's ratatouille.
Even if you didn't listen to the same bands, didn't write in the same way, didn't want to dress in the same fashion Ebony was sporting and even if you made fun of the fic at the time; if you were there, the sense of late 2000s nostalgia it sets in motion is so strong, it's impressive.
This is so intense that the fandom the fic was set in is so unimportant to its context development that you could swap it with anything else and the online culture it spawned from would be just as clearly visible and the fic would still hold the same power. It could have been Twilight just as easily (especially pre-movies Twilight fandom), and for what we know of Tara, she was into Twilight as well, which checks out with the entire persona her and Raven were embodying.
This is common ground for any self-insert fanfic that is inherently created from a place of wish fulfillment because, in them, the only elements relevant to storytelling that are picked from canon are the ones that serve the purpose of the author's ideal representation. But, with My Immortal, there wasn't just a personal representation of wish fulfillment but a synchronic approach (in linguistic terms) to collective late 2000s online alter culture.
The grammar and vernacular of early My Immortal chapters is incredibly reminiscent to Quizilla at that time, to a point of fluency that is too uncanny to be forced and, if it was, it'd be an incredibly impressive feat. The detailed description of outfits, which are narratively uncomfortable, make for a time capsule of fashion idealism, not necessarily realistic but composed of idealized elements, which in tow bring up references not of actual things but of a collective mindset of the intersection between self-made counter-culture ideal and marketable accessibility to mainstream stores.
I'm not saying anything that hasn't been said before but, the more time passes and the more obscure references like "detailed Quizilla results with emo pics or anime illustrations" become to the general public, the more I can recognize the knowledge of a time and a space that My Immortal was holding and how deep it had to be in order to represent it in a way in which the line between troll and intentional, especially when paired up with its sister fic I'm Not Okay, becomes incredibly blurry.
This is also why anyone who was anywhere near this type of culture online can tell when someone who claims to have been the author is lying. The level of involvement that permeates the entire thing can't be faked, whether it was troll-made or not, and you can tell when someone was not in it. You can tell, in other words, when Miss Tara Gilesbie would have called them out for being part of the fkng prepz.

thank you mj ( @mjjune ) beloved <3
i’ll do these for paramoiiiiii (which is pronounced para-MWAH bc i’m kissing it)
1) What is the main lesson of your story (e.g. kindness, diversity, anti-war), and why did you choose it?
oof. paramour has a lot of things going on in it, a lot of which are unintentional but evolved as i began to piece together the characters and the narrative. i don’t think paramour can be boiled down to a singular “main lesson” because i don’t think there’s really a lesson to be HAD. you can definitively read paramour for all of the deep thoughts i have about religion, masculinity, sex, gender presentation, and societal expectations, as well as like the horrors and suffering that greed can bring… or you can just read it as two guys who take the most stupid roundabout way to realize maybe the sex does have feelings. maybe the porn in fact has a little plot.
a lot of the messages woven into paramour have been marinating and maturing in me since 2020 tbh when i really started to allow me to be yknow. MYSELF. and so because i love them they got the projection beam as ya do.
2) What did you use as inspiration for your worldbuilding (like real-life cultures, animals, famous media, websites, etc.)?
paramour is inspired chiefly by steampunk, rococo fashion, and france. lmao. the entire universe that paramour is in (which includes wips like alizath, teardrops, and that one wip that is new and budding but doesn’t have a name yet) is inspired by me bastardizing and colorizing (aka making every mc and all the characters black) europe bc i’m tired of fantasy, mythology, and history and all the things that i enjoy as a person being dictated and delegated to white people. so a lot of it is also “writing the story that i want to see” etc etc.
paramour specifically was also inspired by (but has moved away from QUITE a bit): hamlet, crimson peak, beauty & the beast, gothic literature (that aspect has heavily stayed) and stuff like that. it’s original name was beauty and the crimson hamlet and it was more of a haunted house thing vs what it’s evolved into now lol.
3) What is your MC trying to achieve, and what are you, the writer, trying to achieve with them? Do you want to inspire others, teach forgiveness, help readers grow as a person?
hya is honestly trying to achieve being left the fuck alone and he doesn’t succeed LMAO. i’m not really trying to achieve anything with hya particularly (again you can read into all the things that i put into him and the narrative or he can be just some guy and both are correct tbh) — other than extreme wish fulfillment. though it may not seem this way because hya is a raging dick, he’s ideally what type of person i want to be like in Extreme fantasy land. i wish i was joking but i ain’t. and as such, he gets forgiven of a lot of the things that he does by the narrative or gets his own little happy ending and reasonings why he’s like this which i know some or many people will take issue with. him leaving a corpse in the foyer for example—many will describe him as cruel and callous and “problematic” and they’re right! love that for him 💛 i’m not trying to inspire anyone but myself like when i tell you that paramour is a wip written by me and for me i mean it LOOOOOL like idgaf about what anyone thinks of it 💀 (though i am so happy so many people love paramour as much as i do i didn’t think anyone would care about these assholes but many of my dear friends and other followers have proved me wrong and it’s validating tbh lol)
4) How many chapters is your story going to have?
current outline says 27 but i’m thinking it’s gonna lean closer to 30 just because as i write i realize i need to add in a filler chapter or two. so i’ll say it’ll probably end up being 30–at MAX 35 chapters probably.
5) Is it fanfiction or original content? Where do you plan to post it?
original 💛 and i still don’t particularly know where i want to publish it meaning idk if i want to go for indie which makes more sense or tryyyy to get trad published but. with the content paramour is and the way the publishing industry is i somehow highly doubt i can get it trad pub. so nothing but snippets online (tumblr) for now. maybe if i go indie i’ll make it readable on a website or whatever cuz i’m not really keen on putting it on amazon. but i may just for the reach. idk! i’m just trying to finish it first.
6) When and why did you start writing?
if we’re talking generally speaking i’ve been making stories since i was like 3 years old. paramour in itself however i made juneteenth (6/19) of 2021. i can’t remember WHY i started it so much as i remember just wanting a wip inspired by crimson peak perhaps? and we have gone WAAAAY off from that but yknow. we move lol.
7) Do you have any words of engagement for fellow writers of Writeblr? What other writers of Tumblr do you follow?
honestly just write for you. take all advice with a grain of salt and don’t worry about what others think of your writing/your ideas/whatever. there’s something for everyone and you’ll find your people.
other writeblrs/artists/creators whatever i follow and would recommend (and tag to do this if ya want no pressure) are: @kudzucataclysm @henrike-does-writing-sometimes @kazenokaori @magic-is-something-we-create @void-botanist @outpost51 @isherwoodj & consider this an open tag if you would also like to do this :)

[Edit: MASTERLIST IN THIS POST!! I have pinned this post to the top of my blog as it is important personal information. Scroll down for my Masterlist.]
Tumblr media
I am not fine. But I made a promise. Here I am, after nearly 2 years of radio silence.  Fanfiction writers disappear all of the time for all sorts of different reasons. I made a promise that I was going to finish my Joker Fanfic no matter what. As you have guessed, my health was as such that it prevented me from writing any further. Despite the bad fortune of the past, I still intend to fulfil my promise.
I came on here today to let you know I have started rewriting the final chapters to “The Man Who Claimed to Be Yours”. To all of you who have been reading my tale, commenting and leaving me kudos, asking me to write more: I am incredibly grateful <3 Your support has never failed to make me feel warm, loved, and helped me even in times when my health prevented me to write.
Although I am still not well and might not ever fully recover, my intention is to have TMWCTBY finished before the release of the new Joker. I will try and keep you all up to date with this process. As it seems right now, I might be reworking the outlines. If Arthur runs away with the plot again, it might even be extended from 12 chapters to more. He likes to do this sometimes, especially now that he is the Joker in my fic. ->The Enola Holmes Fanfic is for now on hiatus. I am not sure if I will take it up again. -> I have an unfinished reader insert project running for two friends of mine (who both love Crimson Peak) that I started right before I fell ill in 2020. I wish to try and finish this story for them somewhere this year, or the next. If people enjoy my writing, especially my reader inserts, let me know if I should keep you up to date. It's another dark fantasy, hopefully with different endings options. Best wishes, JokeringCutio (You may have seen me lurking on AO3 as JokeringCutio or on my main as BreakingTheStandards. Despite not having been able to write and update my own tales, I try and support the works of others whenever I can).

Jeff Hardy, Raven, Nova, Billy Gunn x Fem Reader- "Head of the Class"
For those about to read this fanfiction, I hope you're not offended.
Viewer discretion is advised.
______________________________________________________________
Remember being in school, and if you wore an outfit or an article of clothing that was too revealing, you were made to change because it would distract the horny teenage boys in class unable to focus on their schoolwork?
Of course you do.
Some schools have dress codes over that, I know mine did no doubt.
Being a schoolgirl is a sexual fantasy for many, and you're a woman with a school related sexual fantasy you've always wanted to fulfill and finally have.
In February of 1997, you invited Jeff Hardy, Raven and Nova from ECW and Billy Gunn to a hotel room to fulfill this sexual fantasy you've always had.
Raven and Nova were in the World Wrestling Federation for a short while in February, due to ECW invading the WWF for a brief period.
These men as well as Jeff Hardy were perfect to fulfill your sexual fantasy you're about to make come true.
While you were inside this hotel room, you were dressed in these denim short shorts with a short sleeved midriff bearing crop top.
This was one of the most accurate and most realistic outfit a teen girl dressed provocatively going to school would wear.
Raven was dressed in his signature black leather jacket with a flannel tied around his waist, denim shorts that reached his knees and black combat boots, whereas Jeff Hardy and Nova had their long hair hanging down and were wearing T-shirts and basketball shorts.
Those 3 wrestlers were roleplaying as teenagers, because they looked like teenagers.
Raven practically was playing a teenager in ECW and WCW, and Jeff was barely legal during this time (he was 19 years old).
Billy Gunn was wearing a short sleeved polo shirt tucked into his slacks, whereas he had his long hair hanging down.
You chose Billy Gunn to roleplay as a teacher because he looks like he could be one, and because he's sexy AF.
Raven, Nova and Jeff sat on the end of a bed in this hotel room, whereas you walked into this hotel room in your skimpy outfit like you had just entered the classroom.
As you walked into this hotel room, Raven, Nova and Jeff all looked at you and gazed at your, their mouths turning into smiles and their eyes growing wide as you walked further into this hotel room.
These men's eyebrows raised upwards while they checked you out, whereas Billy Gunn saw what you were wearing.
Instead of being sexually aroused over you, Billy was actually angry!
Or at least pretending to be angry.
"Ooh, she's making me horny!" Jeff Hardy confessed with a smile, his eyes studying your body up and down.
"Me too!" Raven and Nova admitted, although they didn't say that in unison.
"Why are you coming to class wearing that?" Billy asked you. "You know you can't come to school dressed like that!"
"I don't mind it!" Nova chirped, chuckling and giggling.
"Me too!" Raven chimed in.
"You know what happens to students who misbehave" Billy reminded you.
Your facial expression turned worried and panicked, whereas Billy's hand was slowly patting his thigh, implying for you to lay on it.
"Now lay down" Billy ordered you.
You reluctantly laid down on his lap with a scared look on your face, laying on your stomach on top of his thighs, although you weren't really scared, you were just pretending to be so.
"I'd come to school everyday if she dressed like that!" Jeff Hardy said.
"Me too!" Nova and Raven chimed, although not in unison.
Teenage boys are infamous for being horny, that's why you're roleplaying as a school girl dressing slutty in a room full of horny teenage boys.
You wish you could've invited Hunter Hearst Helmsley, Shawn Michaels, Brian Pillman and others, but they don't look like teenagers, and I'll get to that later.
As you laid on your stomach on top of his knee, Billy raised one of his hands and repeatedly began to spank your ass.
Although, didn't schools used to spank students with paddles?
Even you were spanked with paddles in school as a youngster.
You're really hoping people next door won't hear you and these other male wrestlers in the room, as well as you being spanked.
These male wrestlers weren't sure to act disgusted or aroused.
Even though spanking is sexy, teenage boys who don't know too much would think you shouldn't be punished for dressing slutty and revealing.
They were hoping Billy would pull your shorts down and spank your bare ass.
You were trying not to cry out and yelp as Billy spanked you, because what if people next door heard you?
Billy's hand was spanking both of your ass cheeks at the same time.
You'd rather have a sexy male professional wrestler like Tommy Rogers from the Fantastics roleplay as this teacher, especially since he looks like a sexy older man, but he didn't join the World Wrestling Federation yet.
Although, Tommy did join ECW at the end of the year.
Raven, Jeff and Nova meanwhile were checking you out being spanked, with smiles on their faces and their eyes looking at you.
"What if we ran a train on her?" Raven asked. "Or even better...gangbanged her?"
"Yeah!" Jeff and Nova agreed with smiles on their faces, although not saying that in unison.
"The teacher can join too!" Nova suggested.
Despite that the teacher was angry at you for dressing provocatively, no doubt he'd join in on this gangbang too.
"I'm feelin' the need to jerk off to her" Jeff Hardy said.
"Me too" Raven and Nova admitted, although not in unison.
"She's making my shorts feel tight!" Raven chimed in.
"He should pull her shorts down!" Nova suggested.
After Billy was finished spanking you, Nova, Raven and Jeff approached you, where Raven was unbuttoning and unzipping his shorts whereas Nova and Jeff pulled their shorts down.
Those 3 wrestlers began undressing you, pulling your top over your head and tossing it away and pulling your shorts and panties down to your ankles.
Billy, on the other hand, despite that he previously spanked you for being naughty, he began to unbutton and unzip his slacks, where he pulled his erection out.
Raven pulled his leather jacket off and Nova and Jeff removed their shirts.
Soon, Billy sat you in his lap once again, where this time he inserted his erection inside your asshole and you began riding it.
Raven placed his hands on your thighs and spread them wide open, where Raven took his erection in one of his hands and slid it inside of your vagina, where he began to pound and thrust you with it.
Jeff took his dick and inserted it inside of your mouth, where you began to suck on it.
Nova, on the other hand, pointed the tip of his cock at your face, where you began masturbating it.
Nova's penis was as close to your face as it could be so his precum (and semen, too) could land on your face.
You honestly kind of wish you could jack off 2 cocks pointing at your face and suck on someone else's penis.
You bounced up and down Billy's dick while Raven fucked you with his penis.
Nova kind of looks a little bit older, like he could be a teacher, maybe even he could've roleplayed as this teacher.
That would've been fabulous.
You swallowed precum that got in your mouth from giving Jeff a blowjob, and you also eventually let Nova's dick in your mouth to give him head.
Likewise, you swallowed Nova's precum inside your mouth, and speaking of which, some precum was spilling out of Nova's penis when you masturbated it.
And when you masturbated Jeff Hardy's cock, his precum got on your face.
During this gangbang, Nova, Jeff and Raven all got turns to fondle your breasts, squeezing and groping them, acting like teenagers.
They also had turns tweaking and rubbing your nipples, and even Jeff and Nova masturbated on your breasts, where their precum got on it.
You swallowed Raven's jizz when he officially climaxed and ejaculated, giving him a blowjob, as well as gave blowjobs to Nova and Jeff once they came.
You didn't give Billy Gunn a blowjob due to his erection being stuck up your asshole.
If you could, you would have so many male professional wrestlers like Shawn Michaels, Hunter Hearst Helmsley, Chris Jericho, Rob Van Dam, Jeff Hardy, Nova, Raven, Sam Houston (Jake "The Snake" Roberts' little brother), Christian Cage, Leif Cassidy (if he didn't have a handlebar moustache), and other sexy male professional wrestlers roleplay as teenage boys in a classroom who become horny, and Tommy Rogers, Scott Hall, Shane Douglas from ECW, Lex Luger, Jacques Rougeau, and maybe even Shawn Michaels roleplay as a teacher dissatisfied at what you wear and gives you a spanking in front of them, only to gangbang you.
Although, some of those male wrestlers don't look like teenagers, and many of those male wrestlers are in other wrestling companies.
Since Leif Cassidy played a 1970's teen idol and Jeff Hardy was in the WWF during the same time Leif Cassidy was before he grew a moustache, maybe you could roleplay as a female student dressed slutty and Leif Cassidy and Jeff Hardy roleplay as schoolboys who get horny seeing you dressed provocitavely and a male teacher gives you a spanking in front of them.
