#I know there still are good lumity fans out there

I used to be part of the TOH fandom but left after the finale - I felt it was very lacking and was a huge letdown for all the reasons you said. Patting itself on the back and lore erasure. But I'd like to ask about something different.
It's no secret Dana hates Disney. But saying it everywhere, the jabs at Disney in the actual show, the attitude of fans parroting her, especially when the news of the shortening was first out - it was legitimately intense. Disney the company has done bad things. But there was a period where I felt like a bad person for even remotely enjoying Disney movies and Disney-published books. I hated myself and felt I was 'betraying' the show, because I had been told Disney was the enemy and nothing more. Disney shortening the show was not a good decision. But it also provided fans with a convenient scapegoat to put every bit of blame on when the show had the tiniest flaw. Comics of beating up Mickey Mouse, 'Disney' being treated like a swear word, praising TOH as the holy grail of animation and saying Disney hated gay people - it made me feel I was a traitor to the show and to myself. (I'm still figuring out my sexuality, but I know I'm not straight.)
Do you think the Disney blame game was too much?
The toh fandom has this incredibly binary way of thinking; the show is the greatest thing in animation and if you don't agree then you're a bigot. Lumity is the best sapphic ship ever and if you don't think so then you're lesbophobic. Shipping non canon ships is tantamount to a war crime. And of course, any criticism of the show has the convenient Disney defense. Any and all flaws of the show is because Disney is evil for not letting the show reach its full potential.
Listen, getting your show cancelled or shortened sucks. But, unfortunately, it's not unique and writers need to prepare for that because it seems to be an occupational hazard in the entertainment industry. A lot of shows get cancelled without even having a conclusion (thank you Netflix for ending the Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance on a cliffhanger! even after the show won a got dang Emmy! 😤) so people should be thankful that at least the toh crew were allowed to finish the story.
I can give grace when analyzing a show's elements knowing what the writers had to deal with. But if they make decisions knowing ahead of time that they only have half a season and 3 specials left, and proceed to add more characters and plot lines that would require a longer season, then those are all fair game.
Dana knew of the Shortening around the production of Eda's Requiem, yet decided to add the Collector, because screw it! We like this little guy and want to see where it goes! They had Hunter get possessed and kill his best friend, yet barely any time is given to him to process that trauma. In the penultimate episode, Boscha, of all people, gets a mini sub plot despite not being relevant for a full season. Luz's angst arc gets 4. separate. resolutions.
None of this is Disney's fault. This all on the crew for not using their precious time wisely and tossing whatever they can to the wall to see what sticks.
So yeah, the Disney blame game is too much but it's also a blessing in disguise because now it's a convenient shield for whoever doesn't want to hear criticism about the show.
As for feeling guilty about liking Disney; listen, Disney has been foundational for literally millions of people for decades. Its presence and influence is seemingly inescapable. And the company has done some awful things in the name of corporate greed and profit.
But you should never feel guilty for liking something that brings you joy.
Remember that writers and artists are responsible for the shows you love. Many queer folks have seen themselves in Disney movies for a variety of reasons and there are many queer artists that have worked for Disney (hi Howard Ashman and Andreas Deja!)
So no, you're not a traitor for liking Disney.
The toh fandom has a very reactionary, us-vs-them attitude and it's incredibly toxic. So don't let the haters get you down!
I wish you well on your journey and hope you're in a better place.
Thank you for the ask!

On relationships: what are your thoughts on Lumity? Do you think Amity's character after her redemption felt a bit more washed out?
Also for Amphibia: what do you think of the fandom trend to ship the three girls together?
First question: Lumity
Lumity is nice. It's good for what it is, and I know that a lot of people love it for being a central, unproblematic, canonical, sapphic ship in a mainstream cartoon, and it's really good at being that. And I like it--they're cute together, and their dynamic is fun. Sure, they're uncomplicated, but uncomplicated is okay.
As for Amity's character--yes, some of her more interesting personality did wash out with her green hair dye. Because TOH doesn't tend to let good characters have 'bad' flaws--that is, flaws that genuinely hurt other people for reasons other than 'i want to protect you' (and yes, there are exceptions to this), Amity's redemption meant that a lot of her rough edges disappeared, or were minimised. Much like every other member of her family, the episode where Amity was best and most perfectly written was Escaping Expulsion. Amity showed all her good qualities there--her strength, her resolve, her iron will, and her loyalty--but she also makes a big mistake, and not an easily excused one. When her mother expels her friends, Amity does exactly what pre-redemption Amity would have done--she lets her fear of her mother override her moral compass or her love for her friends, and it's not until Luz's life is on the line that Amity is able to stand up to her parents, and do the right thing. It would have been nice if as the show went on, she occasionally continued to slip into her old ways--perhaps if she responds too harshly to something, or acts overly haughty at times. But she's still a good character, she's just a bit...smooth.
Second Question:
I'm not going to tell people not to ship, and I hate getting involved in fandom politics. BUT.
You know the classic 'there is more to fandom than shipping' thing? I've never felt that more strongly in a fandom than Amphibia. Shipping is fun, and if you're a big Sashannarcy fan, I'm not going to be the one to say 'how could you ruin the fandom' or something. All I'm saying is that Amphibia is a beautiful, stunning, poignant story which does heaps of fleshing out of non-romantic relationships, and I think that a lot of dynamics and thematic elements in the story fall by the wayside in fanworks in lieu of a non-canon ship. But that said, ship and let ship is the policy of fanworks, y'all do y'all.
the one thing I will say is that the ship should be called Marshanne. it flows so much better than Sashannarcy

Fight me all you want but huntlow/lumity antis are the weakest links in the toh community,
HEAR ME OUT...
...unless you don't have ears idk block the haters
SKIP IF YOU'RE NOT INTERESTED IN SHIPS WARS IT'S HONESTLY EMBARRASSING I HAVE TO SAY THIS!!
All this slander is coming from the goldric/huntmira/lunter/guster/amiter shippers, yes that's a mouthful, and yes I'll be blocking you if you're a toxic shipper, if your not, good! except if you ship amiter, fuck off you lesbianphobic bitch, anyways back to my rant, also sorry if this comes out as insensitive, rude, or if I sound over dramatic I just really hate these types of people
If I had a dime for every toxic shipper I've encountered since I first came into the toh community...BITCH ID BE RICH CAUSE SOME OF Y'ALL ARE WILD ASF 😭🙏, this is based off of a rant I got below this post so yeah credits to anon it was very helpful pookie
Y'all toxic ass shippers will go FUCKING PARAGRAPH LENGTHS TO DEFEND YOUR SHITTY SHIPS, and this is targated twords lunter and goldric, again, if you're not toxic this ain't for you I don't mean to offend anyone, cause tell me why there is this account on Pinterest, I ain't afraid to say their name it's something like TheGoldenCoven, or some shit like that, BROS A LUNTER FAN ACCOUNT 💀, and a toxic one too, dw I got some proof
How the fuck do you normalize the TWO MAIN COUPLE OF A SERIES??? Hunter was never intentioned to date Luz and vice versa, this is a perfect example of toxic a lunter shipper, and not only are they toxic they're...LESBIANPHOBIC!! I know it was probably from 2021 and they've moved on buuuut they did post amiter art, and they're not even a nice person although having in their bio "I'm nice you if you're nice to me" or some bullshit idk
As for toxic goldric shipper accounts I haven't seen any Pinterest or Tumblr accounts so that's good! But majority of the shippers are the most insufferable human beings on earth, their only excuse for shipping them is "they want a mlm couple and they're the same age" noting against wanting a mlm couple it'd be super nice...buy may I remind you this is post early season two...HUNTERS NAME WASN'T EVEN CONFIRMED YET 😭🙏, And let alone having only two or three minutes of screen time makes the ship have an even worse reputation, and the shippers are just bitchy and biphobic, always complaining that Hunter should be canonically gay instead of literally anything else so he can be shipped with only Edric, and I know huntmira shippers exist but I've actually never had an interaction with one, hopefully they aren't too bad
Y'all will come out withe the stupidest excuses not to ship huntlow/lumity, also sorry I got off track 😭😭, for lumity, don't know how it exists, but it's either "it's abusive" or "it's toxic" brother ew 💀, name one way Luz or Amity have hurt each other and DO NOT say it's by how Luz always makes stuff mess even though it's literally apart of her personality or by how she didn't wanna tell her about the portal door in S2 or how she accidentally helped Philip/Belos, I'll wait 😊, and I see the point of how Amity's personality downgraded to only being Luz's gf but she still did have her family problems but I guess they just didn't wanna make it an episode, I mean we got Clouds on the horizon that counts ig?
And for huntlow I keep hearing the same shit "I-Its a crack ship, I-Its forced, t-they have no chemistry 🥺🥺🥺" yeah I can see your toxic ass shipping a 12 and 16 year old together don't think you're slick bitch, and just because huntlow was rushed doesn't mean it's necessarily bad, you don't know if Dana had intentions on it but because of the cancellation it was forced to be rush, and I'm sorry to y'all hearing the shortened s3 excuse but it's true since there's literally no other explanation, also don't come into the comments saying "B-But you don't know that!!🥺🥺" it's just speculation my brother in Christ 😭🙏, merely a theory put together with brain cells which almost everyone in this community doesn't have, another weird double standard is how everyone ships gustholomule and veesha even though there's very little evidence it'll be canon was supposed to be canon but since it's a more noticeable and popular ship no one bats an eye for some reasons even though huntlow is too a popular ship, but these are the more bigger ones so I'll more obscure like cameda or aladarius which where probably never meant to happen and totally fandom operated
Anyways that's all, I'll block haters/toxic shippers in the comments so don't think you'll get a reaction outta me with some half baked and barely thought through argument you found in a Reddit post

The Lumity Kiss is Bad
Which is really weird when the actual, physical kiss is pretty much textbook perfect. However, this isn't a quick kiss or a throwaway one. It's the BIG kiss in a romantic subplot. The second half of the resolution we got in Knock Knock Knocking with the confession and the show frames it that way. As such... The kiss is more than just the kiss and it's every element around the physical action that ruins it, making even the textbook nature of it somehow flawed.
Let's start with the positive though. Now I've actually said I don't like how the kiss is animated and I do kind of stick to that. If you go to the 57 mark of this clip of the kiss, you can literally watch as Amity's face slides back to being on model.
youtube
And kind of like a lot of moments in the show with big budget animation, that's not a HUGE issue but it is deciding that frame rate and smoothness is king for good animation without considering how jarring it is to watch in the show and if it actually fits within the style of the show. I find TOH fights WAY more enjoyable to watch when isolated by themselves because of this because they aren't in an uncanny valley where they feel like a well produced fan animation than something official and I do still hold to that with the kiss itself. I just wish I could better describe why.
BUT! I said I had a positive to talk about and I do. For three seconds, the scene is just right. Luz says the date will be perfect before then Amity, looking at Luz, the person who the mere thought of was comforting her and who she's been worried about for a week, decides to go in and kiss her. Her hands are gentle as they take Luz's face and she leans in. Luz is shocked that this is happening but then quickly gives into the bliss and holds Amity's hand in her own. It is sweet, quick but incredibly impactful. It is a textbook example of how to do a kiss that one half of the pair didn't see coming and the couple are meant to be deeply in love. It's nothing new but doing the classic spot on is never a bad thing.
Those three seconds die the second Luz says, "Crikey," let alone the fact that it's in an Australian accent. And don't get me wrong: You do not have to make a kiss like this sappy. I Was A Teenage Exocolonist has a romance route with a very clinical, scientific person and when you two get together, she snarks at you if you ask what next. That I should know her well enough to know she has a logical decision deduced from what is correct for the situation.
"So are you going to kiss me or am I going to kiss you?"
Great. Amazing. Silly and not taking itself too seriously but above all else IN. CHARACTER.
I'm sorry to break it to you all but Luz is NOWHERE NEAR "Lol, random" enough for this. Hell, in both this scene and Looking Glass Ruins, the writers point out how Amity is driven to act on emotion and on what her brain pulls her towards more than Luz, especially on this topic. It's why Amity is ALWAYS the one to do the firsts in their relationship. Meanwhile, Luz's only times where she blurts out something random is "Snorses" which had a clear correlation to what was happening and "You damn rat!" which also was explicitly tied to the stimuli causing it.
What stimuli here makes her go "Crikey" and turn FUCKING AUSTRALIAN!? The only reasonable excuse I could even think of is to say she's a huge Crocodile Dundee fan but Luz was born theoretically somewhere around 2006, literally TWENTY YEARS after that movie came out and I don't feel like Camila would push something like that for her to watch or really fits in with most of what else Luz seems to enjoy.
Fucking BAZINGA would have been more in character because at least nerds still mock Big Bang Theory. Other options for a random word or reference would have been "Excelsior!" or "Wahoo!" as she jumps into the air like the hyperactive gremlin she's supposed to be.
Neither one would work though in general because the tone and framing of the scene isn't right for a joke, let alone this sort of joke. Part of what makes the kiss feel so justified in this moment is the setup... Though only on Amity's side. I'll get to the problems with Luz's setup for the kiss in a bit.
Amity has thought Luz might be dead for a week. She hasn't heard back from her, she's scared, distressed and strung out. She wants things to go back to simpler times like in Season 1 when things weren't so scary. She's emotional and is actively using the thought of Luz as a way to comfort herself. Then, out of nowhere, Luz comes in, promising romance, better times and safety, all while proving she herself is safe.
It is perfect setup in a story like this for the first kiss. Honestly, they could have gone one step farther and mentioned that they haven't even had a big kiss but they went with the missing out on the date element, which works just as well. It's nothing new but it's correct. It's good. However... It's also genuinely serious. Like this is effectively Amity laying out exactly why she likes Luz. The strength she gets from Luz. Why this relationship is important to her. It is great setup for an "I love you," or a first kiss.
It is a REALLY bad setup for a joke. However... as bad Luz's joke is... Amity's is actually worse.
"I can't believe I just did that!"
Yeah and I can't believe that in this moment that should show how far Luz and Amity have come as a couple, the strength and joy they've gained after being a couple for half a season, you're literally reacting the EXACT same way as you did when you kissed her on the cheek back in Looking Glass Ruins. It doesn't matter that you have nicknames now. That you two keep twirling each other about. Have had deep conversations about Luz's pain while Luz ignored yours. *eye twitch at Reaching Out* And it doesn't matter that in this moment, you have EVERY justification to be confident in this choice. To simply happy and overcome with emotion that your partner is simply ALIVE.
Her response should have been, "I'm so happy to see you," not literally going back an entire half a season for a cheap, repeat gag.
To be fair though, while this entire scene, from the moment it cuts to Amity talking to Emira and Edric, is obviously paying reverence to how big of a deal this is and trying to make the kiss be correct... The jokes are in keeping with how quite literally the rest of the episode treats Lumity. Remember, this episode starts with Luz claiming she'd like to pull a romantic rescue but deciding to opt out because despite having literally nothing to do with the plan, and likely being detrimental to how stealthy they need to be because fewer numbers are better here, she would rather be prepared to help Eda and King than actually break her girlfriend out from being grounded by the EC. This is despite, in Luz's own words, "You know me. I'll always choose the chaotic option." That... Isn't a good starting point.
Then the rescue is comically easy and Luz doesn't actually do any of it. It's all Gus, Willow and Hunter. Luz just gets to take the credit and get the big hero kiss, which this ABSOLUTELY IS. Amity was a damsel in distress for Luz to save, complete with a kiss for doing so. That's also without getting into how pathetically easy the save is. Like Willow doesn't even have to try to bury one dude and an abomaton ALIVE under ground. Frankly, I'm amazed that guard is still alive.
It's just a lot of stuff way too easy to be leading into what is the final payoff for your romantic subplot, let alone one that has taken up a THIRD of your story so far.
The rest of the episode isn't any better though. This should be an episode about Lumity. It starts with talking about Amity in trouble. Then it saves Amity and does the big, climactic kiss... But we haven't gotten Luz's side of the relationship yet, have we? We haven't gotten her speech like we did Amity's. We haven't gotten anything to show her deeper care for Amity and while Amity is talking about Luz's quirks and her kindness and the strength she gets from her, Knock Knock Knocking is really the closest we've gotten with "Awesome and pretty" which is vague and shallow. This is your chance to fix that.
There's even a perfect moment. Odalia threatens their relationship and says Luz isn't worthy. Have Luz agree... But then say it doesn't matter what her or Odalia think. That she is lucky to have someone as smart, dedicated, and passionate while having a sweet center that despite all her fears, anytime she's with Amity, she knows Amity is going to give her the chances she needs. Is going to understand what she's trying to say instead of looking at how weird she is and rejecting her. Take ten, twenty seconds to do that... While in the background, we can see Gus obviously thinking about something, glance at Luz, and then start working on a spell circle.
The shield comes down, get the dramatic reveal of Alador and then cut back to where Hunter is holding Amity's hand. Same effect as the show but allow Gus to make the plan of his own volition because he wants to protect his bro and this was the best he could think of. He thought Luz would be more capable of defending herself due to glyphs and that Belos was less likely to kill her than Hunter. Also, it was in a panic and the best he could think of.
INSTEAD, we get Luz ignoring Amity's problems with her parents for the THIRD FUCKING TIME and focusing on the white boy in the cast instead. In fact, I don't think Lumity talk to each other ONCE after the kiss scene. The focus is too much on the plot and Amity's angst and I could do an entire blog about how little Luz actually engages with Amity's character arc and plot elements. It makes it real rough analyzing old episodes for Amity's arc when you realize how much Amity jumps in her arc without almost any input from Luz on elements that are suddenly gone.
And this would be OKAY... But it makes the kiss feel like... Well, honestly like a gag. We're at a point in the show after all where very little of it is trying to be funny. Even Gus and King are being taken seriously now and Amity will be a joke for most of S3, especially in Thanks to Them. Even her standing up to her mother is lightly mocked by Alador sounding like he's just saying sweet lies in telling Amity that she was close to breaking the barrier. It's WEIRD the treatment of it when it has consumed so much time and the framing of the actual moment is so serious.
And I want to be clear: I am happy they kissed. I am not against this because it's two girls or anything like that. I'd criticize this no matter the gender, race, etc. of any element here because it is just flatly bad romance writing. The only parts that function are either cut off at the knees or the one part that has the characters too silent to actually harm the moment.
And I think the last thing any of us wanted for Lumity was for it to be treated like a joke.

AU lore dump!
In this AU, grim walkers are kinda like a Alterhuman/wolfwalker/werewolf mix. After Hollow Mind ,Hunter runs off into the woods,(goes on all fours!) (edit: he trips like the idiot he is, and shifts then.) and shifts into his wolf form, (which I have dubbed Phantom, hence the name of the AU) and instead of going to hexside, he finds a cave where he hides out for a while (4/5 weeks), stealing food and blankets, and transforming the cave into his den
While this is happening luz is freaking out,due to no one having glimpsed hunter in weeks. And on top of that, there is a strange wolf( in this AU, Wild Canines are from the demon realm,so not that weird) haunting (see what I did there?) the streets, stealing food and other things. She things it looks familiar, but she cannot place her finger on in. Phantom becomes a celebrity, and befriends luz (I sort of call Phantom and Hunter to separate entities, even tho they’re the same person, System style) then Hunter builds up confidence to reappear, and starts making small appearances, like a ghost (Hahah. maybe one of them should be a bus disappearance thingy) and luz is less scared that he got caught. Finally, hunter appears on the owl houses door step, and gets melded with the owl fam. The time frame for this part of it is 1-2 months. To make it less suspicious that right when he vanished that phantom appeared, and vice versa, he sneaks out at night and makes appearances, and sometimes during the day. He lies that he “is just a fan” of phantom (kinda selfish bro)( to be extra sneaky, he draws phantom [he’s good at drawing] and fakes being a bad lier.) and keeps tabs on his image. Luz starts to get suspicious(“he says he is a fan of phantom, and phantom is a friendly boy, but Hunter never is to bet found when phantom is around and vice versa. Also, phantom appeared right after he went missing, and Hunter never talks about were he was/is during is absence. Also. Fangs, he is crepuscular, he is very defensive of his stuff/friends,his eyes glow, he has strange abilities , he is mostly carnivorous, his hair grows fast, also, they two look smiliar.they have to be the same person!”) and tries to prove her suspicions. This doesn’t go well.
Orrrrrrrr they (hexsquad- hunter) get kidnapped and Hunter saves them using his wolfie powers, but then has to explain why he has them. Only Luz knows till human realm. They are stuck there for a year.
Canon deviations
day of bs is in 10-11 months
Hexsquad is in HR for a year
Labyrinth runners is changed and later
Hunter has enhanced abilities after the first shift
Edge of the world is FAR later than canon
Wild Canines(coyotes, wolves, foxes, hyenas, exc) are from the BI
My HC of him being coy-wolf coping link is changed (wolf therian, both psychologically and spiritually)
Hunter lives with the owl fam after the first part.
Luz is otter-link
Amity is cat-hearted
Lumity is a4a (alterhuman 4 alterhuman)
Belos is not actively after the owl fam. Also he does not quite learn Hunter has unlocked his wolf form until abt a month or two before the day of unity
Luz still knows that hunter is a grimwalker, but doesn’t know what it is, and there isn’t anything really on them.(she also forgets Abt it cause she’s bad at remembering stuff){as we see in canon}
Hunter goes to hexside, but besides the EEs, no one knows that he was the gg. (IT RHYMES)(He takes the potion track[most fanfics],Beast-keeping[wolfyness] and bard[vocal mess of wolves]bump allows him to use flapjack as an aid.)
Notes
Hunters style is alterhuman grunge .
Flapjack knew most of the previous Golden Guards. HE DOES NOT CUT HIS HAIR IT LOOKS DUMB. Luz and the hex squad are suffering from adrien agrest syndrome( means they are oblivious) hunter uses he/it/they pronouns.( “hunter here with he/it pronouns and a wish to he/it [hit] Belos”) when hunter has been in his witch form for too long, his chest starts to ache/hurt, and he can be annoyed easier. he has three different forms, witch( canon, but with fluffy hair that looks like a mix of his hair and the hair eda had when she first meet king, sharper and longer teeth, what could be classified as claws, a stronger that the “normal” of smell; sight; bite force, can jump higher, is supernaturally fast and agile ,at least by non-magically enhanced standards, especially high stamina and a alter human grudge style), semi witch ( wolf form teeth, kinda claws, harpy eda hair, wolf form ears and tail, extra sharp smell; eye-site; strong bite force and can jump really freaking high, and is fast, agile, and durable ) and wolf (literally a wolf hunter with enhanced wolf abilities) Hunter has more self-esteem than canon. He’s still kinda a bad boy.
Extra
possible AU Of this AU where Hunter unlocked his wolf form at about 4-5 ish. Belos has used in as an Attack/guard dog. hunters wolf form has a cream collar with a gold emperors coven sigil as the tag, gold cuff thingys on his paws, sharpening his claws. Belos told him it was a curse, and gives him a tonic to “keep the wolf under control” (this is obviously a lie, this is a domestication potion which is used in feral animals, basically making hunter way more submissive, laid back[when applicable, it sometimes makes him far more aggressive] and more dog like than canon)two variations are possible : Luz knows, changing the plot drastically, and Luz is oblivious, having little to no effect on plot.
great huh!?

Lumity Week Day 1: Azura Bookclub
CW for talks of death and sacrifice
Last week, the final book in the Good Witch Azura series was released. And frankly, Amity was rather anxious to get her hands on it. Luckily, when Luz visited last time, she was able to snag her a copy. She was filled to the brim with excitement, so much so that she couldn't help but take Luz by the face and kiss her over and over again. Today, she finally put the book down. Because today, they were going to talk about how it ended.
It was strange to think that the series would end at all, much less the way that it did. Amity, quite frankly, didn't know what to feel. She and Luz shared their love for the series when they were just fourteen. Amity herself has been reading them since she was eleven. And now they're both sixteen. The series that brought them closer together had been brought to a close. It was over, just like that.
Amity set her reading glasses down on the end table along with her book, and she rubbed at the corners of her eyes with her thumb and forefinger. She was just about to get up from her seat when she heard a knock at the door.
Weird, Amity thought, I wasn't expecting her until four. It was then that her gaze drifted over to the demon clock that hung on the wall in her room, which read: four-fifteen. Oh! Dear Titan!
"Psst," Luz hissed through the door, "sweet potato, it's me."
"Be there in a minute," Amity called back to her as she quickly set a table up in the middle of the room with a few chairs tucked away neatly underneath. She breathed deeply before turning to open the door for her.
"Hey."
"Que tal, hermosa," Luz greeted her girlfriend, kissing her on the cheek.
Amity flushed, "oh, I was just finishing up --"
"The book? Emira told me you were still reading it when I got here."
Amity rubbed at the back of her neck, her face growing hotter. "How's school going for you?" She deflected.
Luz pulled up one of the chairs Amity set up and sat down, folding her hands into one another and resting her chin. "It's been alright," she sighed, "it's definitely better than before I came to the Isles, but I still prefer it here, you know?"
"That’s not an excuse for you not to do your work, is it?" Amity said sternly, leaning her hand on one hip.
"No, absolutely not," Luz smiled at her, "I just like being here. I like being with you."
Amity nodded and pulled out the other chair to sit across from Luz. "I like you here too," she said softly, kissing her cheek, "now, do you want me to get any snacks or drinks for you, mi batata?"
This time Luz flushed, "Yes, please."
Once they prepared the snacks and some tea, Luz set her copy of the book down on the table. Her eyes gleamed with anticipation.
“Sooo,” she mused, “what did you think?”
Amity was caught off guard. She only just finished the book and barely had time to think. The first time Luz asked her this, she had recently finished the fifth book, Turn of the Tides, and was giving her back the copy she borrowed. Back then, she had so much on her mind: school, pressure from her mother, and her crush on Luz. All of it swam through her head that it made her practically dizzy.
In retrospect, Amity enjoyed the book. She especially enjoyed the new character that was introduced; Lucy’s sibling, Mica Malingale. Luz found a fan drawing of her with Mica, and she was so embarrassed that she immediately burned the drawing.
“Do you mind starting?” She asked, “I still need time to think.”
Luz made a mock bow in response, at least the best interpretation of one while sitting down. “It would be my absolute pleasure,” she said in her most exaggerated posh Erynian accent. Amity couldn’t help but laugh at how cute she was.
The young witch took a sip of her warm tea and watched lovingly as Luz went on about the story. What she liked, what she didn’t like, and what she thought was great in concept but needed better execution. And then she stopped suddenly. Luz had tears rolling down her cheeks.
“Amity,” Luz said meditatively, “have you heard about what happened when I faced Belos? What really happened?”
“Eda told me a few things,” Amity answered worriedly, “Why? What’s going on?”
“You know how Azura died?”
Amity paused. She knew exactly what Luz was saying. Reaching over to touch her hand, she spoke to her calmly.
“But she came back, didn’t she?” Amity said, “And even if she stayed dead, she sacrificed herself for Hecate. Azura always thought she was an awful person for falling for Menos’ tricks. But that’s what he does; he tricks people. He tricked all of Eryon. He used the Desolation to lie to and manipulate the people. But just because she fell for it doesn’t make her a bad person. It made her a victim. But Azura saw Menos for what he really was. He labeled everyone who defied him as a witch. She rose and called him out for his abuse and claimed the title of The Good Witch not just for her, but for everyone he mistreated.”
Amity rose out of her chair now, “And she never had to sacrifice herself to prove that she was good, even if she had no choice. All she had to do was be there for the people; for everyone that she came across on her adventures; Malingale, Eila, Aithlin, even Hecate,” tears started rolling down Amity’s cheeks, “Hecate, while she was a childhood friend, she became an enemy, another victim of Menos. But Azura made her see that she was wrong. And eventually, Hecate grew to love her.”
Amity now knelt before Luz and put her hands on her shoulders, “and with that love, she brought her back. Despite everything they’ve been through, she loved her. And you can’t take loved away.”
Luz wept into Amity’s shoulder. It was everything that Luz needed to hear. She never completely processed what happened back then. And when the hero that she looked up to suffered nearly the same fate, it brought everything back.
It brought back all the hardships and all the struggles she faced. All the mistakes that she made. But in the end, she had love, just like Azura.
Luz wiped the tears away from her eyes and withdrew her breath. Then she smiled at Amity, the Hecate to her Azura, her cotton candy goddess. She was so lucky to have someone like her by her side. Luz leaned in to kiss Amity, and she returned the favor. They stayed that way for a while until they eventually pulled away. Luz then started to laugh.
“What’s so funny?”
“So, I see you liked the book.”
Amity’s face grew hot, and joined in her girlfriend’s laughter, “You’re such a dork.”
“You know it.”
Amity leaned into Luz’s shoulder, kissing her cheek, “I love you.”
Luz’s smile softened as she rested her cheek against Amity’s head.
“I love you too.”

I know a few people who dislike huntlow and say stuff like:"this ship is super rushed, hunter has to work on himself, he doesn't understand romance and it is the last thing he needs" but they ship huntric and lumity🥴like you dislike huntlow for being rushed and hunter not being able to understand romance but you ship hunter and edric who interacted only once 🤡 something tells me those are not the reasons why those people dislike this ship, but completely for different ones🫣 and they are afraid to admit. Again i don't have problem with people who dislike huntlow but i have problem with people who drag huntlow down meanwhile shipping edric and lumity. Again every person has a right to dislike or like a ship. And what is so interesting that the majority of people never brought these excuses for amity when they shipped so much lumity and attacked everybody who wasn't a fan of this ship. And also unlike amity hunter didn't have that much problems with morality, didn't harm intentionally willow and gus, even when he got them captured he still tried to fix mistake. He actually owned up to his mistakes and had to learn it the hard way. Meanwhile amity wasnt addressed for her awful behaviour and shifted the responsibility of her actions on to her parents. And she didnt even try to reconcile with willow. She suddenly became a "sofgtie" out of nowhere without getting called out and only around luz. I am sorry folks but this is not a proper redemption. People also dislike willow and gus for not being plot relevant when its clearly writers fault for not giving them episodes to shine, and it is not as infuriating as amity who got a lot of episodes dedicated to her but still ending as a "girlfriend" who doesnt do much. No offense to amity stans and they literally whine all the effing time like why people dont talk about amitys trauma, when it was the only thing discussed during s1-s2, as if all these talks and fanarts about amity wasnt enough. They always bring up amity literally all the time.
I agree and I’ve discussed this before. I recently haven’t said anything because I want the whole show to be over before rewatching it and having a retrospective to see if anything changes. I have talked about this before though.
I adore Huntlow/Winter and I love that they are still separate and unique characters while being together. I hate the stupid excuse that Hunter isn’t “ready for a relationship” because it makes no sense. A traumatized kid just found people who makes him feel seen, heard, and loved. He also got a crush on someone who ALSO experienced mistreatment and cares so much about him. I can see why Hunter would like Willow and vice versa. I CAN’T see how Luz would like Amity since she’s BEEN bullied and she SAW Amity bully Willow. I have no idea why Luz was all in Amity’s face.
The popular fanon ships are so frustrating because they’ll just ship Hunter w a yt person with the same logic he got with Willow for.
I haven’t seen any Willow and Gus hate but they were literally sidelined to make Amity look good because they know that she didn’t have a real redemption. It makes no sense that Amity got so much screentime just to keep reiterating herself as Luz’s gf but never have Willow and Gus be there for Luz to reiterate their friendship. Hell, even in s1 and Amity was barely there, the fans literally favored her and made so much fanart of her replacing Willow and Gus/ making them background support to lumity. It was literally just “tomato Amity” and “idiot Luz” fanart flooding my feeds. At least Huntlow art has character. Amity needs nothing else.
Then the show damn near goes out the way to have Lumity on one side and Emerald Trio on the other with sprinkles of Amillow interactions to be like “See? They’re all friends 😇”. It’s getting tired fr.

I write about a character per day
Day 20: Viney (Finale)
Healer. Beastkeeper. Anarchist.
How many things I can say about a character who had her fair share of 2 episodes with 4 more in the background. Oh boy let's go.
Alright getting this out of the way, and the only time I do this because it's Viney. As my favourite character of the show and 2nd favourite of all time (behind a water witch), I want to headcanon so many things for Viney. She's aroace, because everyone is aroace until proven otherwise :P. My favourite ship to Viney is Luney, in a platonic way, that I would like it even more if I didn't know about Lumity too early. She's an engineer in both biology and chemistry. She opens a veterinarian clinic for mythical pets, while also studies medicine and other methods of healing.
Okay, I gotta admit I like Luney more because of Viney being too awesome and their first interaction were pretty cool. Viney has healing and beastkeeping, two of the most underrated coven of the show. Healing potential looked quite awesome, as she even used a shield made out of the coven sigil. As a diehard fan of Steven Universe, I loved that moment so much.
(yes this is the only writing post I will put images on, screw me)
Beastkeeping may have destroyed the class and got her in detention, but who cares, Puddles is the coolest friend a veterinarian can have. And it is so nice that she chose Healing with Beastkeeping, specifically to heal all the pets she got.
I'm going on a limb and say this. Viney is the perfect successor of Eda, maybe with less rebellious intent than her last generation. The tunnel she used? Eda used it before. The Troublemakers Wall? Eda is the Queen. Viney looks up to Eda, as the pioneer of anarchism in the school. Baby Anarchist Viney is so incredible and I love it.
Viney's outfit is also torn like Eda, in fact her uniform is actually more unique than any other students. Her shirt pin points out, unlike other students, her shirt was torn in a way no one does that. And of course the hook earring. My baby anarchist is so determined to rebel.
Side note: I can take a whole day just talking about her hook earring.
The hate between Viney and Jerbo really is incredibly funny tbh. She just decided to hate him. And when Jerbo joined the other time, she just saw all hell broke loose, gave him that death stare in the eyes. That's just awesome lol.
The First Day is her debut, and also her best episodes (so much injustice for my baby). The idea of using a griffin as an assistance is cool enough, but property damage and multi-track studying got her into trouble. Oh hey, just like Luz heh. One day in and Luz already was in detention with the troublemakers.
Having to live in the shadow for a while, with not many companies on her side, she developed a lot of skepticism. Which is why she was so mad at Luz when she saw Luz's friend coming, thinking Luz is above the troublemakers, or that interaction with Jerbo. But when Luz was in need for help, she and the students that the school deemed as troublemakers have saved the school, and forced Bump to change the law for multi-track studying. Eda might be the pioneer, but Viney and co are the revolutionists.
Her next appearance is in Hunting Palisman. No comments here, I just want to appreciate this moment. Very mystical manticore for a very mystical girl.
Any Sport in a Storm is the episode with her iconic "Now I'm only scarred emotionally". Despite having more screen time, she still doesn't have that much more lines, she was outshined by Hunter and Willow. She's now a member of Emerald Entrails, she got along well with the team, and her powers got stronger. Good for her, good for her.
And of course the group selfie.
Labyrinth Runners is when we see a bit more of her. And Puddles' second battle. Not as successful as the first, but it's precious enough for me.
The last episode she had a line in was For The Future. Again, very brief moments. Although she got a new drip with the scarf. It's a scarf, alright girl. A moment when my kin (Willow) met my favourite (Viney), it's so incredibly precious.
Her finale design is so cool. She got long hair, cool outfit, but the hook earring must stay. And she was helping in erasing the sigils.
Puddles say bye.

anyway...now I want to talk more about why I did care about this show. because honestly? I was never in it for the queer rep, though that was nice, or lumity.
I was in this show because I have a real life Eda. well...sort of.
the real world is a little more complicated than a children's cartoon. but nevertheless...I want to talk a little about the Eda to my Luz. for privacy purposes, I'll call her...Mrs. B. honestly I refer to her by her first name now but we'll go with this.
Mrs. B was a teacher of mine. I don't want to get into everything that was going on for me at the time I first met her, but long story short, catholic school sucks when you're gay and don't know it yet but members of the faculty have started to suspect and are subtly trying to steer you in a...straighter direction behind your back.
but Mrs. B wasn't doing any of that. quite the opposite. she, rather like Eda, had a few rough edges, a few less than pleasant traits about her. I didn't even like her at first- I thought she was kind of mean and more than a little intimidating. but Mrs. B, who taught 8th grade mostly, was...a little different from most of the teachers I'd had up to that point.
for starters, everything about her was dark. dark hair, dark eyes, black clothes, short temper, dark sense of humor. it was a legitimate rumor among the younger grades that she was actually a witch. and Mrs. B did nothing to discourage this. she thought it was funny.
it was kind of obvious that she didn't really fit in well with the other faculty. she never seemed to try that hard, either. she didn't conform her teaching style very much (this was all before NCLB had fully gotten to the private school systems tho). she taught english a little more in depth, she taught critical thinking in ways no one ever had before- I distinctly recall an assignment she set that forced us to write a convincing argument both for and against abortion debate, for example. and good lord the way that woman taught religion was...honestly I'm shocked she was never fired for it. she skated a very thin line with that.
she taught us other cultural myths. she told us the entire book of genesis was probably made up, couching it only with "but spiritual truths probably". she told us most of were going to have sex before marriage, don't worry about it, use condoms. don't do drugs but if you do and get in trouble, call me. the church says homosexuality is a sin but a lot of people don't believe that so eh...
It was as close to open allyship as she was able to get. but it was felt.
she showed a softer side in other places too. she encouraged me to try out for the school play (which she always directed) even though I was shy and quiet. when there were two new students in our grade she rather deftly directed people she thought would be good friends for them to do just that. and it worked on both counts. she sent the one half-mexican student we had in our class down to the office to run a quick errand and then absolutely lost her shit on the boys who had been making racist mexican jokes.
she did her best to look out for me behind the scenes when other members of the staff had a target on my back for maybe being gay. it wasn't quite enough- the harm was still done- but she tried. she fell short sometimes, there are things I wish she'd done differently, things I wish she'd said more openly. but she always had a hand held out if I ever needed it.
I had a sense that she was a little bit weird, like me and my friends were a little bit weird. it turned out, she was kind of weird. a little off the beaten path, a little bit different. I later learned, as an adult, that not only does she not even believe in catholicism, she's a closet agnostic. and as a child, once I saw past the tough outer shell, I saw somebody I felt like I could trust. and when shit hit the fan for me, she was the one I ended up reaching out to for help.
I went to public high school, and the transition was rough after over a decade at the same old catholic school. this on top of a lot of unresolved religious trauma nonsense, don't wanna get into it, I ended up in a bit of a mental health crisis that I also don't want to get into the details of. long story short, I reached a bit of a breaking point, I had exhausted other resources, so I sent Mrs. B an email. long, desperate, frankly embarrassing to think back on. but she responded, she agreed to talk to me.
and it helped. it didn't fix anything per se, but it helped. I went back to the school to visit her fairly often throughout that year, leaning on her for support in ways that can't have been easy for her, but made a world of difference for me. I don't know what would have happened if I hadn't reached out like that, I'm not sure how much worse things would have gotten. but I remember...I was fifteen and felt like I was walking towards the edge of a cliff. I hadn't gotten to the edge yet, but she pulled me off that path entirely. she didn't save my life so much as ensure no one would ever have to.
we've been...something like friends ever since. It's not as easy as the relationship between Eda and Luz. It was complicated by the boundaries that once existed, especially when I was a minor. she was always very careful about that. I think she still is on some level.
but she is kind of a mother figure to me, a bit complicated by the fact that she was once my teacher, that I definitely had a bit of a hero-worship crush on her at one point when I was younger, but I think that's where it's settled now. that's how I've come to see her.
I don't think she entirely reciprocates the feeling. I've never asked, and I've never told her this. I see her as a mother figure, but I don't think that's mutual- I think she sees me as a former student, a kid she cared about, and now something of a friend. she values my presence in her life, she's said as much, but there's also a lack of reciprocity in the dynamic. we don't totally act like friends, we act like a former teacher and her former student. she's private, keeps herself to herself. she knows way more about me than I do about her. I don't ever expect her to lean on me for support the way you might in a more mutual friendship. I don't think she'd feel right about that, even now.
the dynamic now is such that I reach out whenever I'm in town, we meet up, have lunch or coffee or something for a couple hours, bye see you next time. we don't really talk in between. I wish we did sometimes, but we don't. that's not something I really feel at liberty to do, not for lack of invitation, but I'm still mindful of boundaries (and also she's 70 and can't text for shit lol). she doesn't really ever reach out first, either. those old boundaries will always exist, even when she says they're not there anymore. I know they still are on some level, they always will be. having anxiety doesn't help things either.
but at the end of the day, this woman has always been in my corner, has always been a supportive mentor to me when I needed her to be. every time I have come to her for help she has been there. every time I have needed something from her she has followed through. when I needed someone to talk to after my best friend was assaulted, she was there to listen. when I stopped by the school in the months following both of my grandmothers' deaths, she pulled up a chair and let me talk. when I needed a little self esteem boost during a rough time in my master's program, she was there with words of encouragement and her usual dry humor. when I finally plucked up the courage to come out to her, she responded perfectly. when I asked her what was really going on all those years ago at that school, she told me the truth, even when she knew it would be hard for me to hear.
and it was. it was hard to hear. but it's also set me on the path to finally healing some old shit in a way that will actually matter. she's still pulling me back from the wrong paths, and I'm not entirely sure she knows just how much. she isn't doing all the work, far from it, but her impact on my life really cannot be overstated.
and this is the relationship that Eda and Luz almost immediately reminded me of. that was why the owl house touched me as much as it did. I see shades of the girl I used to be in Luz, and I see an awful lot of Mrs. B in Eda. even if it's not exactly the same, even if I wish Mrs. B and I were a little closer than we really are...and that hurts sometimes. but I'm a therapist now, I understand why those dynamics can never really step beyond what they were. a client is never not a client. a student is never not a student.
but it's close enough. and the owl house comes close enough to representing it, closer than anything I've ever seen before, frankly. mentor figures in fantasy stories usually fit into very specific molds and tropes- the gandalfs, the dumbledores- I had never seen anything that told a story that I felt was more true to life. at least, more true to my life.
more than any queer representation, more than lumity, this is what makes the owl house special to me. and I'm very glad I got to experience it.

Have you gotten into other series.since the owl house ended?
hey anon.
to be honest im all over the place, i really havent gone far from being still into toh- and mainly thats because im afraid of losing inspiration for writing toh fics if i dont keep some sort of grasp on it.
i have gotten and dabbled in other series but not really any that id want to write or read for. least not at this time. its like im consuming the media as it is and am not wanting to go deeper to create things for said media pieces.
recently- well.. not super recently i did watch arcane, and of course im really into scream, as well as both fight club and im sort of getting into mha.
however, i will say bloom into you ive taken a good interest in and while i havent read the manga fully yet- ive watched the anime like three times. i did start a fic that i didnt actually get far on but yeah.
really want to buy more of dorohedoro whenever possible too.
im just here idk. i hope i dont seem annoying or childish by still being in this fandom :(. i really just love the owl house, and growing up, it was really hard for me to find wlw representation that wasnt sexualized or like there was some sort of double standard of a male gaze with it. i kinda just found toh and have stuck by it. especially with the canon nonbinary they/them characters. lumity isnt a speculative ship either- we arent left in lesbian yearning. its an actual ship. for the first time in my fandom life i am able to experience a romantic relationship in a series that isnt purely derived from fanfiction and fan content. its real, and i love them. i love that theyre real and canon.
theres so much to think and talk about with the world too that leaves me to want to write about- especially BECAUSE its over. i can analyze canon as a whole and look at it like a salad bar of toppings for a fic.
i know its kind of childish, but i genuinely just love lumity. i love seeing them be happy. and im not gonna push myself if i dont feel up to parting with the series just yet. usually, my fandom eras last for a couple of years anyway. nothing just has roped me in just yet. i suppose when the fandom starts dying out, ill leave then, but it's pretty healthy still, and it's good. especially here on tumblr. very much so good people here.
i hope you have a good rest of your day. :)

question why do you not like amity?
Really, it's not that I dislike her. She's just never caught my fancy as much as the Luz, Gus, and Willow trio.
I'd be lying if I said there wasn't a liiiitle bit of bitterness about the show focusing on her and not her AND Gus and Willow, but it's whatever. It hasn't lowered my opinion of her, just made it harder for me to get into her lol.
*shoves a big wall of text behind my back*
oh what this? haha no nothing important back there lol. just redundant stuff really, you don't need to look there hahaha just a little bit of frustration at the show
[in all honesty this just turned into a vent. above the cut is the tldr and sums up my feelings on amity.]
Well okay. My main frustration with her is just how often she takes center stage over Gus and Willow. I know Amity is the love interest, and I don't begrudge her that. But still, I feel like the show could've given Gus and Willow a bigger part.
It's late, so I'm not going to go into all that right now. Feel free to another ask if you do want the big ol' thought dump later.
in the end, it just stings that Luz is introduced as this bullied, friendless kid, right? And Willow and Gus are the very first friends she makes there. But then the show never does anything interesting with them because Luz bonds with their bully instead.
Oh, and this also ties into why I'm not as big a fan of Hunter. The story could've had Luz, Gus, Willow, and Amity involved in the storyline.
Instead? Some unnamed bodyguard dude from the finale takes over. Gus, Willow, and even Amity are all just glorified emotional support while this random guy gets the tie-in with the main villain, gets possessed, dies, is resurrected, becomes Willow's love interest and Gus' best brother (Luz was there first btw).
Like, come on. I didn't sign up for this! I signed up for Luz with her two best friends and her girlfriend, not Luz does most stuff with her girlfriend, hangs out with her "best friends" at school (offscreen), and does all the plot relevant shit with the writers' punching bag.
I don't dislike Amity! I think I would like her if I didn't resent her from taking all the character development in S1 at the cost of Luz's "best friends!"
(I do hate hunter though. Fuck that kid)
My opinion on Amity is entirely neutral. Maybe I'd be a bigger fan if Gus' second (SECOND) A-plot wasn't overshadowed by another Lumity plot. Maybe if Willow's one S1 episode wasn't about how Amity bullying her was just Amity trying to protect her, and Willow's second (SECOND) A-plot wasn't about Hunter saving her sport team.
MAYBE if the characters I thought were going to be relevant, and fell in love with, weren't THROWN AWAY, my bitterness wouldn't be blocking me from enjoying the show.
But it is what it is. The show writers want their show to be about Hunter, Luz, and Amity. Who am I to decide what their show is about?
No, I'll just find new interests. Take Gus and Willow with me, since the show doesn't seem to want to play with them.
Lurk in the fandom a bit too maybe. After all, who knows when there might be a post in the Willow tag that doesn't have to do with Huntlow! It could even happen next week!
But lemme tell you, I've long since given up hope on the characters I love mattering again. I was pessimistic after S1. The trailer gave me new hope, and then S2 would've completely killed it if not for Ttlgr. (don't get me started on Willow barely appearing, or Eclipse lake showing that the writers themselves think Willow and Gus are only good for comic relief, because HEAVEN FORBID they swing at the gentle underhand pitch of HAVING WILLOW AND GUS CARE FOR LUZ WHILE SHE'S SICK, NOOOOOOOO THEY GOOF OFF AND LISTEN TO MUSIC WHILE SHE'S HAVING A PANIC ATTACK OVER HER GIRLFRIEND GOING INTO MORTAL DANGER WITH FUCKING HUNTER TO DO PLOT RELEVANT STUFF AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH)
Anyways, after S2a I thought things were getting better! Gus has the setup with the Looking Glass Ruins, surely that's gonna go somewhere! And Willow........ uh...... she'll probably come back? Maybe?
But no. Matt's back in the background, suddenly Hunter is Gus' quote brother unquote or something so the fandom gets to infantilize the poor little baby twelve year old 🥺 Oh and a Willow episode! Surely this will be about her! Maybe they'll even make it a plot about her and Amity!
Nope. She's got HUNTER AS A FUCKING LOVE INTEREST NOW!!
And ALL I EVER SEE IS WILLOW AND HUNTER PARALLEL CALEB AND EVELYN THIS. GUS AND HUNTER PARALLEL PHILIP AND CALEB THAT. WITTEBANE WITTEBANE WITTEBANE I'M SO FUCKING SICK OF THE WITTEBANES I THOUGHT THIS WAS THE LUZ SHOW NOT THE FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT WITTEBANE SHOW
YEAH I'M GOING TO WATCH THE NEXT EP BUT DO I THINK IT'S GOING TO HAVE ANYTHING ABOUT GUS OR WILLOW? MAYBE ONE SCENE IF WE'RE LUCKY!! THE FINAL? GOOD FUCKING LUCK I HOPE YOU LIKE HUNTER BECAUSE IT'S PROBABLY GOING TO BE ABOUT HIM AND THE MOTHERFUCKING WITTEBANES AGAIN.
ahem.
kudos to those who like amity and hunter
I wish I could, but that chance has long passed.
my owl house phase is over and I'm just floating here while the flesh of my hyperfixation rots on the bone.
I'll probably write some more. I do genuinely love the characters.
but man, I watched that last ep and felt nothing.
I've lost hope on everything that started my brainrot for this show.
Ya know, I started watching this show for Lumity? I just got hooked on the og hexsquad afterwards. Knock knock knocking on Hooty's door was a dopamine rush when it came out.
It's just hard to love Amity when she's one of the people the writers are ignoring my faves for.
(but fuck hunter all the way)
#de anguigeno#thank you for the ask!#bleh I need to get back into my happy acceptance mindset#bitterness isn't good for you#toh negative

i don’t know about u but i relate to each and every one of the owl house characters so much. and they make me feel safe on a different level. and it’s not like id ever type a 15 page long essay about it what do you mea
thinking about when Amity stopped herself from watching Luz’s video without her permission despite being immensely worried. thinking about when she confronted Luz and made sure to communicate first and comforted her instead of accusing her of stuff and how Healing it was for me to watch that. thinking of Lumity’s enemies to lovers and how obsessed i was and how completed i felt. this ship meant so much to me no one will ever know. forever the kiss scene the animation the dialogue everything i will cry thinking about it Every Time
thinking about Willow and Gus’s friendship. thinking about them so hard. i personally relate to both Willow and Gus soooo strongly. Willow is me in so many aspects: the therapist friend, kind of underestimated, sort of the mom but also cradled as the child and Gus is just a silly guy as well as the smallest one in the friend group which i highly relate to. strangers tell me and my twin sister apart by me being smaller than her and my friends call me short and small on a daily basis. okay and them together is Crazy. i loved the way they met and Willow’s tactic to calm down ive been using for a few months now whenever i have a really bad day. and it genuinely helps so Fucking much so i will forever owe that to TOH. i think my dream will always be to have friends like the two of them
don’t Even fucking get me started on King and Eda and Hooty and Luz and the actual owl house. my home actually. they mean the absolute most to me out of the whole show. when they reunited in s3 i cried for a good hour. im shedding a tear writing this. oh my fucking god i don’t know what it is about them but their found family thing they have going on is insane. they will honestly forever mean more to me than the hexsquad. no words will explain how much like home they feel to me. on my worst days i imagine being there. oh MY GOSH OH MY GOD AND WHEN EDA SAID “alright, kid. listen to me. im going away, and i don't know if i can bounce back this time. watch over King, remember to feed Hooty. and Luz, thank you for being in my life”. top 10 hardest times i cried. I sobbed so hard my chest hurt.
ok next Hunter. to be honest i was never the biggest fan of him merely because of how over hyped he was by the fandom just because they all had crushes on him but he’s genuinely such a cool guy. he was such fucking good representation and idk but the way we got to watch him form relationships with everyone. it was beautiful. and i heavily relate to him despite him being a sort of grouchy dude and me being an overexcited puppy. he’s got this gifted kid burnout and obsession with validation vibe that is identical to mine and it means a lot to me to see my weirdest most annoying toxic traits seen in him
okay as you can tell im unhealthily attached to this show. these paragraphs are kind of silly but i don’t think anyone will Ever Ever understand no matter how many words i write . i remember starting the show in quarantine and being so obsessed with it and staying in bed all day. i had to hold in my smiles all the time it was exhausting. one time i tried to explain the show to my sister and i cried and couldn’t stop. it’s been a while since it’s ended but i still think about it on a weekly basis.

The Owl House Effect
(SPOILERS AHEAD FOR ANYONE WHO HAS NOT WATCHED THE FINALE FULLY YET!)
The Owl House finale premiered on April 9, 2023 on Disney Channel and Disney Channel’s YouTube channel, officially bringing the beloved animation to a close. Titled “Watching and Dreaming”, the creators (and the characters) bid farewell to fans with a heartwarming ending. We all definitely sobbed at the end.
In the finale, we got answers to the Collector’s past, revealing that they’re just a kid who was sent down to the Boiling Isles by their brothers and befriended Titans, but once the race began dying, the Collector was then seen as an enemy, but it was all just a big misunderstanding. Luz, who reunites with Eda and King, helps the Collector understand how to be kind and make friends. Belos, who continued to posess Raine (who eventually broke out of their trance and got Belos out of them), tries to stop Belos from possessing a giant TITAN’S HEART, but it’s too late. Once Belos takes over the Titan, the Boiling Isles starts to become covered by him. Amity, Gus, Willow, Hunter, and Camila eventually get themselves out of their puppet trances and work to stop whatever Belos was doing to the Isles from spreading, and with Luz nearly dying and meeting the Titan-King’s dad-himself, she gets powerful magic flowing inside her, leading her to beat Belos for good. As years pass, the Boiling Isles has rebuilt itself, and before Luz heads off to the University of Wild Magic, everyone spends a good time together to celebrate Luz’s very late quinceañera.
Back in 2020, fans were introduced to the magical and haunting world of the Boiling Isles, following a young teenage Latina protagonist and human, Luz Noceda. Meeting Eda Clawthorne, the Owl Lady, and living in the Owl House with her, Luz learns many things along the journey-how to perform magic with glyphs, how to maintain her friendships, and discovering who she wants to truly be. The show was a success to many fans, as the characters were completely relatable and worthy of admiration.
When Season 3 was getting announced, fans were pissed to the bone when it was discovered that Season 3 was only going to be 3 episodes, cutting off so many details that could have been further explored if a whole season was done (giving a big side eye to you, Disney). The show’s creator, Dana Terrace, continued to let fans know that all their love is appreciated, and fans promoted the show as much as they could, making fanart, writing fanfics, and so much more.
As the years pass, many of the characters get new looks, but are still the same people. Vee got a nose ring, Willow cut her hair shorter, Eda grew her hair out again, Gus got a new hair look (and I love it!), and King got a bit taller. Since he’s a Titan, there’s a long way of growing for this little guy.
Also, Hunter has a new palisman, and it’s named Waffles! How adorable is that! I love how Willow and Hunter made a grave for Flapjack, *sobs harder*.
There are many theories that surrounded the show, and the number drastically increased when it came to the short Season 3. Fans began to think about the story surrounding Caleb Wittebane, Belo’s (Phillip’s) brother, and a witch named Evelyn. Fans believe that she was a Clawthorne like Eda and Lillith (and King, even though he is adopted), and there are clues that match every character’s design, as fans continue to try and connect the dots. We only know the story Masha had told the crew during “Thanks to Them”, but there was certainly more to be discovered. Regarding the theory that the entire show was just a dream Luz was having, we’re thankful that this was truly all real.
This was also a good ending for all Lumity and Huntlow shippers. We got to see Amity and Luz share a kiss, and another on the cheek towards the ending, and we love to see the representation. Hunter and Willow meet and hold hands, which implies that they are most likely together now (hopefully).
As a bisexual myself, I admired the representation this show gave to all the LGBTQ+ fans out there. When Luz came out to her mom, I was so proud of her. Many unfortunately do not have that much support that Camila gave Luz, but this show is there for LGBTQ+ fans to be welcome and appreciated.
Now, fans will continue to display The Owl House in their own ways on social media and everywhere else, letting the show live on. It’s crazy how the show is officially over, but it is never over in our hearts. Keep on rewatching it as many times as you want, and show others that The Owl House was worthy of it’s success!

ok its been literally 15 minutes since the finale ended and im getting off the TOH tag.
I am SO DISAPPOINTED in a certain side of this fandom.
it took less than FIFTEEN MINUTES to see enough "lollllll lumity went canon and huntlow didn't, get WRECKED YOU STINKY STRAIGHTS LOL BURY UR GAYS UNO REVERSE LMAOOOOO HOW DOES IT FEEL NASTY ICKY BAD STRAIGHT SHIPPERS" posts to make me actually consider whether I'd rather the show have had a sad ending.
not bc of huntlow, i ship it but never put any hope or weight on it going canon. I'm not "anti-lumity" or whateverthefuck, I don't really think about ships that much in 99.9% of fandoms.
...yall are just extremely fucking
IMMATURE.
I'm queer. I understand how much pain we've dealt with even SOLELY in terms of media rep. I even understand the glee at the concept of "straightbaiting" actually being a thing that happened here.
I also understand the EXTREMELY JUSTIFIED concern and anger around some parts of the fandom seeming to abandon the BIPOC WLW main character/main ship in favor of the Sad Greasy White Boy Of The Week And His White Straight Girlfriend.
I DO NOT UNDERSTAND why so many "fans" are taking this EXTREMELY POSITIVE, LITERALLY GROUNDBREAKING and immediately turning it against their fellow fans. All this amazing rep, characterization, EVERYTHING and you still find a way to be cruel to your fellow fans.
this isn't a contest.
Lumity is canon.
Huntlow is not.
Huntlow was not a focus of the finale.
I can guarantee you that after that finale, NOBODY was thinking about Huntlow until yall started being fucking mean about it.
YOU brought up the thing you claimed to want the fandom to stop focusing on, for the SINGULAR PURPOSE of enacting some sort of "revenge" on shippers that you projected a whoooole lot of Racism, Homophobia, and Evil onto, despite:
Bi Hunter, Transmasc Hunter, Transfemme Willow, and T4T Huntlow all being EXTREMELY popular hcs/themes in and out of shipping context
A fair chunk of the fandom seeing Willow as BIPOC/East Asian -coded
ALL of the masc presenting queers w parental and/or religious trauma who have spoken out about how seen they feel bc of Hunter
I'm not saying Hunter was a perfect character. He definitely wasn't the main character, or even close.
I'm saying that yall have demonized this part of the fandom SO MUCH that after THAT FINALE.
*THAT. FINALE.*
your FIRST INSTINCT was to ATTACK THEM
over the SHIP (I REPEAT MYSELF) THAT YOU SAID YOU WANTED PPL TO STOP TALKING ABOUT.
I was having a really fun, good, genuine amazing time freaking my shit over Titan!Luz, and Lumity, and Raeda, and King and The Collector and TITAN LUZ!!!!!
yknow. all the stuff the finale was actually about.
and now I'm thinking mainly of huntlow (or at least the discourse around it), angry, and extremely sad that my experience of this finale has been ruined
and that this fandom is the latest to fall into the trap of "blame other fans for actual systemic oppression, regardless of whether or not they are actually upholding it."
I don't know how to get it through your heads that a heavily T4T-headcanoned, likely biracial-coded ship that is CANONICALLY a healing narrative for trauma survivors
is not fucking reylo.
this Evil In Fandom you're angry at 1000% exists but it sure as fuck isn't here.
unless there's a Secret Second Huntlow Fandom That Is Evil And Racist And Hates Lumity that idk abt, this is just a group of sad queer kids sitting next to your own group of sad queer kids
and despite me seeing ZERO ACTUAL HUNTLOW COMMENTS ABOUT THE FINALE * AT ALL *
you, whatever side of the fandom is doing this (I honestly don't know who is making these posts) aren't proving, winning, fixing or righting anything
you're going over to another side of the fandom whose ship didnt go canon
and with ZERO PROVOKATION
you're making them feel like shit for it.
why???
WHY??????
yall "won". you won as much as you can possibly win here. everybody loves the finale. nobody is giving anything but overwhelming love, happy tears, joy and awe to "your" win.
but you still felt the need to make sure someone, somewhere, knew that they "lost".
sry im just so angry at this rn. i was having so much fun. what the fuck is this kind of behavior supposed to prove?
also btw to be clear this is NOT DIRECTED AT ALL OR MOST LUMITY SHIPPERS, LUZ STANS, ETC. ITS NOT EVEN DIRECTED AT "HUNTLOW-ANTIS" EXCEPT THE *SPECIFIC PEOPLE* WHO CHOSE TO USE THE FINALE TO BASH ON OTHERS.
AS FOR THOSE SPECIFIC PEOPLE:
YOU SUCK!!!!!! Thanks for ruining this fantastic experience for me by being a piece of shit on main over some "shipper" crap im not even in.
#toh spoilers#the owl house spoilers#vent#rant#fandom wank#discourse#Literally What The Fuck#shit like this makes it so much easier for ACTUAL PEOPLE IN POWER to write off queer narratives and fanbases#theres also legit no point#nobody is attacking yall in the toh fandom ok????#i was having FUN#AND NOW I WANT TO CRY#NOT BC OF SHIPS#BUT BC PPL ARE BEING SO MEAN LITERALLY JUST TO BE MEAN#im blocking ship tags from now on methinkd#Grow. Up.#angry post#long post#longpost

What do you think about Huntlow? Was it really supposed to be a canon ship or just there for the fans to be interpret?
So as a couple they're fine. I can see them being happy and cute but also INCREDIBLY boring because you have a girl with not a lot of personality with a boy who struggles to keep a consistent personality. A cardboard cutout for hugs and an angst bucket. That's not all that interesting to me.
That may sound harsh but as far as their interactions go and how they behave with each other, that's what they look to me together as. I find both more interesting separate than together because together they're just... happy. Which again, good for them, it makes the ship fine but there's no narrative hook for me there. Not enough contrast for me to ever imagine them fighting because neither holds enough of an opinion about something to have a fight. Admittedly, that's still better than Lumity where I wouldn't expect Amity to ever stick to a position if Luz told her not to by the end of the series. That doesn't make it interesting though.
As for whether or not they're meant to be canon... Yes. Not just because of the blushing but actually because the show likes to have relationships as part of transformation and who the partner is almost always dictates to some extent the transformation that has/will happen. This isn't even only romantic. Lilith and Matt both befriend comic relief characters (though I suspect Gus and Matt were meant to be the mlm rep which... Your decision on how to feel about that) and thus their characters become comedic and punchlines which brings them narratively closer to their partner. 'Mama Eda' as a term comes from the episode that Raine is introduced where Raine's calm and focus actually reflects how much Eda has given up chaos for responsibility. Though shoutout to this happening in reverse as well as Raine becomes a duplicate of Eda during Them's the Breaks because these writers literally only know one type of relationship to write. And finally, of course, Amity becomes more lighthearted and carefree and stops caring about consequences as much, just like Luz. When she fully is willing to abandon anyone but Luz, they get together. -_-
It's part of what makes the relationships in TOH feel inherently toxic to some extent, at least to me. Rather than highlighting what makes each person unique and those strengths being what each other admires in their partner, it's much more about one conforming to the other. Losing their identity and picking up the one that belongs to the person they like. Which, you know, isn't good. A partner should push you to be the best version of yourself, not a new person for them.
Huntlow... Is both the same and different. The plus side is neither conforms to becoming the other person which is good! This happens because instead of a single arc being capstoned by the two finding each other like the rest, it's actually twin arcs meant to highlight one another. Hunter's arc of becoming pathetic and losing all of his actual skills, control, prestige, etc. like that ends with him becoming small, a failure and really just not much of a fighter at all. Not because he disavows fighting but because he's just bad at it. This all is meant to help Willow look stronger, more competent and more confident as she refuses any side of her that was shy for someone who will make you listen to her: Period. Remember, she does still force Hunter, against his will, onto the Grudgby field because while she talks a big game about being like him with her magical issues, she is still the Titan blessed prodigy while he has an actual disability.
Which... Boy scars from my brother are real sharp on that point and I'll just leave it at that.
Honestly, when described like that, you can see why the two were meant to get together. In a story actually about the two instead of Willow being a character who sat out almost an entire season until her boyfriend showed up, it could have been really interesting to see the two helping each other grow like this. They also would have needed more consistent characterization for this too. As it is, it's just boring because they don't have an actual dynamic between one another, just a meta one I can analyze onto them that is over by the time they get together.
Which makes Huntlow just like any other TOH relationship, for better and more often worse.

I was writing a longer vent piece about this but since it was taking way longer then I liked to make and I wasn’t happy with most of it, I’ll just try to be brief:
A lot of the reason I’m not as active is because of adult responsibilities and a lack of engagement, but another part of it is because of a bitterness that’s stuck with me since watching Any Sport. Not a hatred or disgust that ruins my enjoyment of the whole show, but a bitterness I can’t stop feeling.
On top of a bunch of glaring writing mistakes that make me think the entire episode was a first draft:
It reduced Skara from an intriguing side character with depth to any other minor background character, not at all explaining why one of Willow’s former bullies is now her friend and instead just not caring about it.
Hunter goes from knowing he’s on the wrong side but not thinking he can’t escape it to being a complete dolt who genuinely believes the Emperors Coven is this wonderful place to be, all while never explaining why anyone in the Hexsquad would trust him after Eclipse Lake.
And despite the episode seeming like it wants to be about Willow in the first half, and making her the adorable badass we all know she is, it nosedives directly into the Mariana’s Trench after Hunter’s reveal, with pretty much everything feeling completely out of character and only done because it needed to further Huntlow and Hunter’s development, essentially making her the trophy Hunter gets for being The Good Boy rather then a compelling and mutually beneficial ship like Lumity.
And yes, the show was screwed by Disney, I know that. But what’s frustrating is that, even in season 2B and beyond, the show is still so damn high quality, with episodes like Them’s The Breaks, Kid and Watching and Dreaming standing out as some of the best episodes of the series, while Reaching Out is probably amongst the most emotionally impactful episodes of any kids show in the past decade. Any Sport is the outlier here, an episode that’s so frustrating and poorly done, and with such frustrating consequences for the characters I liked after, that I can’t help but feel jaded towards the whole show.
But I don’t want to feel like that. I like being critical and analytical, but I didn’t get into TOH so I could rant about how bad it is. I don’t want to be a TOH Critical account, but often it seems like that’s what I talk about. And honestly, even when interacting with some other Skarlow fans, it feels like they’re less happy to talk about Skarlow as a ship and more bitter about Huntlow. And I’ve felt that way before. And I don’t want to feel that way again.
I want to rewatch the series sometime soon. Again, with adult responsibilities idk when I can, but hopefully soon. And I hope that doing that might remind, me of the stuff I loved for the show, enough to find time to write about it here again with all the love and admiration I had for it before Any Sport. Till then, I’ll be sure to answer questions when I can, and just want to thank everyone who interacts with my posts and my silly little ship at all.
