Going to say this now even though I barely post here::::: Adaptations are never meant to be a 1:1 recreation of the original source material. The goal is never to recreate the exact same experience in a different format, the whole point of remaking something in a different format is to make something new.

I don’t understand why people are out here acting like the new Netflix ATLA walked onscreen, shot the original with a 44 and declared itself the new ATLA. I’m not saying you can’t criticise anything about it or any other adaptation, I just think a lot of people need to remember that an adaptation that gives you the same experience and explores the exact same themes and doesn’t elaborate on or look at things in different angles would be utterly pointless.

The repeated motif of “You were so close.” In regards to Peter and Harry really gets me, man. Sighs SIGHS something about the loss, of no longer having a relationship with a person who was SO important to you. Something about the what ifs. If Peter had been less scared, if Harry had been more patient. If Norman hadn’t sent him away in the first place. If things had gone just a little differently would they still be in each other’s lives? They were so close. SIGHS

I think it’s safe to say my doctor will no longer write scripts for me. Because my insurance changed. So they won’t answer my MyChart message, nor actually send the script I asked for.

but I can’t see a new doctor until April (yeah I’m 99% sure I scheduled that in December, congrats!), so I’m not sure who is supposed to fill this script for me - no one will fill a script without seeing me first. My Metformin is fine - I had refills, so I transferred the script. But not my Wellbutrin. The one that keeps me sane, ya know?

i feel legitimately angry about the pjo tv show. rick makes a huge show of how book accurate it’s going to be and then gives us that? he exploited the trust his fans had in him and our love for this series and we got something that only vaguely resembles the story we know. sure, it was never going to be a verbatim retelling, but you’re telling me the series we got is “book accurate”? i just don’t understand what happened between the huge campaign that happened to get disney to develop a good adaptation of the story to now.

Matthew MacFayden’s Darcy is a fascinating thing to unpack because I don’t believe it succeeds as a performance of Darcy or even as a performance in general (it kind of can't) but there are layers to it and it's not simple.

This rewatch has made me realise that it's not just Morse who put Thursday on a pedestal. On one hand the audience is a little more aware of his flaws than Morse is, sure, but I at the very least was right with him that Thursday 'has ever been the best and wisest of men' when in fact his violence is there in black-and-white from the start.

This is far from the only example but I just rewatched Colours and I keep thinking of what it means for a child -- a child who was raised in a loving home, mind -- to be afraid to tell his dad that kids were roughing him up at school because he was frightened of what his father would do to them. Like, damn.

Her name's Sirona Ryan.

In between her name probably being specifically chosen for people to call her 'Sir Ryan', I look at it and think, 'Oh. Sirona. Like sirens. Like the creatures in Greek mythology that lured people to their deaths with falsities. Implying danger. Implying lies. Implying that this character isn't a real woman. Couple that with the last name. 'Ryan'. Which is an actual last name, granted. But seems so weird as a name to give to a trans woman. Since the name is also a first name. And is typically associated with men. And Rowling is a TERF. Implying invalidation towards her as a trans woman. Huh. Interesting.'

By the way, from a cursory Google search, 'Sirona' comes from Celtic mythology as a name that one of the goddesses use, but come on. Are we really going to believe that she did the research on that? That it was intentional? Sheesh.

i don't know what to say for those posts asking "what's the worst movie you've ever seen?" because i don't really watch a lot of movies that i know will be bad, and by bad i mean in a way i won't enjoy. i've seen a number of "bad" movies that i found enjoyable enough that i wouldn't actually call them bad. i've seen movies that bored me but i wouldn't call bad because they just weren't to my taste and they probably had at least some technical accomplishments. any actual Bad movies by my metrics are films i probably haven't watched. because they look bad.

i guess my actual answer to the question would be like, some stupid 2000s comedy with a lot of raunchy "offensive" humor that my brothers and i watched because it was on tv or a comedic actor our parents liked but who was well past their era of making good movies was in it. but i wouldn't even be able to pick out any one of those that was memorable enough to be the clear worst. and honestly chances are whatever it was, there were at least a few jokes in there that i laughed at. so i can't say.
