apparently the reason may december is being snubbed during awards season is because a lot of actors REALLY didn’t like what it had to say about actors who take on the roles of real people, and the idea that a bunch of former theatre kids might be sensitive about criticism of the industry they work in is, to me, just so shocking

Song of the Day
"Call of the moose" Willy Mitchell, 1980 As you might know, September 30th is Truth and Reconciliation day (more commonly known as Orange Shirt Day), a national day in Canada dedicated to spreading awareness about the legacy of Residential schools on Indigenous people. Instead of just focusing on a song, I also wanted to briefly talk about the history of the sixties scoop and its influence on Indigenous American music and activism.
The process of Residential schooling in Canada existed well before the '60s, but the new processes of the sixties scoop began in 1951. It was a process where the provincial government had the power to take Indigenous children from their homes and communities and put them into the child welfare system. Despite the closing of residential schools, more and more children were being taken away from their families and adopted into middle-class white ones.
Even though Indigenous communities only made up a tiny portion of the total population, 40-70% of the children in these programs would be Aboriginal. In total, 20,000 children would be victims of these policies through the 60s and 70s.
Tumblr media
These adoptions would have disastrous effects on their victims. Not only were sexual and physical abuse common problems but the victims were forcibly stripped of their culture and taught to hate themselves. The community panel report on the sixties scoop writes:
"The homes in which our children are placed ranged from those of caring, well-intentioned individuals, to places of slave labour and physical, emotional and sexual abuse. The violent effects of the most negative of these homes are tragic for its victims. Even the best of these homes are not healthy places for our children. Anglo-Canadian foster parents are not culturally equipped to create an environment in which a positive Aboriginal self-image can develop. In many cases, our children are taught to demean those things about themselves that are Aboriginal. Meanwhile, they are expected to emulate normal child development by imitating the role model behavior of their Anglo-Canadian foster or adoptive parents."
and to this day indigenous children in Canada are still disproportionately represented in foster care. Despite being 5% of the Total Canadian population, Indigenous children make up 53.8% of all children in foster care.
I would like to say that the one good thing that came out of this gruesome and horrible practice of state-sponsored child relocation was that there was a birth of culture from protest music, but there wasn't. In fact, Indigenous music has a long history of being erased and whitewashed from folk history.
From Buffy Saint-Marie pretending to be Indigenous to the systematic denial of first nations people from the Canadian mainstream music scene, the talented artists of the time were forcibly erased.
Which is why this album featuring Willy Mitchell is so important.

Willy Mitchell and The Desert River Band
This Album was compiled of incredibly rare, unheard folk and rock music of North American indigenous music in the 60s-80s. It is truly, a of a kind historical artifact and a testimony to the importance of archival work to combat cultural genocide. Please give the entire thing a listen if you have time. Call of the Moose is my favorite song on the album, written and performed by Willy Mitchell in the 80s. His Most interesting song might be 'Big Policeman' though, written about his experience of getting shot in the head by the police. He talks about it here:
"He comes there and as soon as I took off running, he had my two friends right there — he could have taken them. They stopped right there on the sidewalk. They watched him shootin’ at me. He missed me twice, and when I got to the tree line, he was on the edge of the road, at the snow bank. That’s where he fell, and the gun went off. But that was it — he took the gun out. He should never have taken that gun out. I spoke to many policemen. And judges, too. I spoke with lawyers about that. They all agreed. He wasn’t supposed to touch that gun. So why did I only get five hundred dollars for that? "
These problems talked about here, forced displacement, cultural assimilation, police violence, child exploitation, and erasure of these crimes, still exist in Canada. And so long as they still exist, it is imperative to keep talking about them. Never let the settler colonial government have peace; never let anyone be comfortable not remembering the depth of exploitation.

yippeeeeeee!!! (shen yuan / bingqiu -centric edition) 1/3
[ truth serum/fix it; canon compliant/post canon; shen yuan transmigrates into someone else; disciple shen yuan/child shen yuan ]
truth serum / fix it
• right from the start, I gave you my heart
"Bro, you know how many words I wrote per day, and how many plants I created!” Shang Qinghua whines. "I can't remember them all, it's impossible." Shen Qingqiu narrows his eyes. "It was used with Wife #418.” "That doesn't narrow it down any further. I'm not going to be able to guess it, so stop punishing me and just tell me how the flower nerfed you." Shen Qingqiu grits his teeth. Obviously he wants to draw this out to punish Shang Qinghua, but it kinda looks more like he's punishing himself. There's a muscle flexing in his jaw, and if he puts any more pressure on his fan's guard, it's going to snap. Uh, actually, Shen Qingqiu kind of looks like he's in pain— “A false dragonhead is also called an obedient plant. It’s in the name—the flower forces you to do whatever you're told," Shen Qingqiu spits out.  or: Shen Qingqiu runs afoul of one of Airplane's stupid wife-plot devices...just before a mission to Jinlan City.
• save your tears (for another day)
In which the SYSTEM provided Shen Qingqiu a way to distract Luo Binghe during their reunion in the Jinlan City Arc: And then he felt it, a hot and stinging sensation in his eyes.  Something warm and wet trailed down his cheek. His vision blurred and he hurriedly tried blinking it away. Shen Qingqiu quickly wiped his face before anyone could see. He stared at the wet trail in his hand in horror and betrayal. What the fuck, SYSTEM?! Too late, Luo Binghe already saw it, judging by the sharp intake of breath and everyone going silent around him.
• What Is Seen
…is not [always] the real truth. Truth-compelling artifacts in the hands of an enemy to one side, SYSTEM-mandated silence on the other, and Shen Qingqiu caught between the two. Is it too late to go back to the Water Prison?
canon compliant / post-canon
• That's NOT A REAL TROPE you Hack Author!
So. It turns out that Shang Qinghua was taking commissions on the side to write fanfiction of his own novel. Truly, his shamelessness knows no bounds, ect., ect., what else is new?! The problem is, now the System has found those stories, and shoved them in the middle of Shen Qingqiu's Happy Ever After! It can't be too bad, though, right? It's not like Airplane-bro wasn't already abusing every trope known to man! Only... What trope is this supposed to be??? "Great Master" Airplane, bro, why are all these tropes wrong??? Did you... Did you seriously scam people out of their money without knowing what their requests meant?! - A story of tropes where all the tropes are wrong.
• Imposter Syndrome
"Don't make any hasty moves!" Shen Qingqiu said, keeping one hand lightly on the wrist of the Liu Qingge closest to him. Which -- he thought this was the same one that he'd been following down the stairs, whose hand he had taken in the dark, but he couldn't be sure. Which was, of course, exactly the point and the problem. "I know what this is." "You recognize this?" gulped one of the Shang Qinghuas. There were five of them, all trying to sidle into corners or otherwise get out of the line of sight, but this one looked correct to Shen Qingqiu. He turned towards the author-turned transmigrator. "Yes, and I'm sure you will too with a little prompting," he said, glaring at Shang Qinghua. "We're dealing with doppelgangers."
• Something White, Green, and Embarassed All Over
Shen Yuan knew the system was being too kind by giving him a perfectly good body to suddenly live in, he knew there had to be some other drawback. Of course he still had to deal with (the more minor) symptoms from his previous life! What kind of Peak Lord gets nosebleeds, system!?
• Treading Well-Worn Paths
After Shen Qingqiu married Luo Binghe, Yue Qingyuan thought his role in the man’s life was over.  However, as he carried the child-sized lord of Qing Jing Peak in his arms, he was grateful for this unexpected opportunity to bond with the person he cherished most. Shen Yuan, meanwhile, wondered desperately where the hell he was.

• Tarnished Gold
Becoming emperor of the cultivation world will start with a first step as small and basic as becoming Head Disciple of Huan Hua Palace. For that, he must steal the position away from the current Head Disciple. Luo Binghe will sabotage, upstage, and completely and utterly best him. The road to destroying everything and everyone who has ever wronged him, to becoming the highest ruler so that no one will ever have the right to control him ever again - it will start as simply as ruining Gongyi Xiao’s life. Compared to everything else he’s already done, this should be easy. - Luo Binghe brings all his skills of cunning and brutality to bear on Gongyi Xiao, Head Disciple of Huan Hua Palace Sect. It… doesn’t go too well for him.
•  Locked and Loaded
[THIS SYSTEM IS SORRY FOR USER’S DISSATISFACTION WITH HIS ASSIGNED ROLE, BUT IT IS THE BEST CHOICE IF THE GOAL IS TO CHANGE THE NOVEL FOR THE BETTER! AS AN APOLOGY GIFT FOR THIS AND THE DELAY ON LOADING USER INTO HIS ASSIGNED ROLE, THIS SYSTEM CAN GRANT 1(one) SPECIAL ITEM OF USER’S CHOOSING!] ‘... So I can wish for anything?' [USER ヽ(;▽;)ノ! YES, 1(one) SPECIAL ITEM OF USER 'S CHOOSING!]  ‘Then, I wish for a gun.’ [ ...【・ヘ・?】] Or Shen Yuan finally gets the gun that he always deserved.
• Midnight Blooms Peerless Flowers
Shen Yuan is transmigrated into Shen Jiu’s Shizun.
disciple shen yuan ✒️ / child shen yuan 🐥
✒️🐥 • Shen Yuan's School for Unrepentant Assholes
Shen Yuan has been dealt a rough hand at the beginning of his life. Then he gets sort of adopted by Shen Qingqiu, who desperately needs someone to help smooth out his interpersonal relationships. Thankfully, Shen Yuan is awesome at understanding people and what they want! Shen Qingqiu can't decide if he regrets claiming this chaos gremlin as his own or not, but now that Shen Yuan is here, he's never letting him go. He'll have to be pried out of Shen Qingqiu's cold, dead fingers first. Meanwhile, Luo Binghe is just caught up in the wake of both of them and trying not to be dragged under. (Or, a drama of errors with comedic moments, exploring the growing relationship between an unforgiving misanthrope with serious issues and a traumatized kid that just wants to teach him what family means (and maybe learn it, himself))
✒️ • Shen Yuan of No Relation
There is a boy digging a hole.  There should be nothing special about him. He is one of many children digging holes, each and every one eager to get a spot on Cang Qiong Mountain. At a distance, there was black hair and shabby clothes.  Yue Qingyuan could not look away from him. - In a world where they are the same age, Shen Yuan is going to try his very best to become the best friend of his favorite protagonist and prevent the blackening of Luo Binghe! Only, there is a problem. Shen Yuan looks way too much like the scum villain himself, Shen Qingqiu.
✒️ • raised by winter winds
Shen Yuan has had a push-and-pull relationship with Shen Qingqiu for years. Shen Yuan knows that Shen Qingqiu is meant to be a villain, but he knows just as well that many of the things Shen Qingqiu was accused of in Proud Immortal Demon Way were just shitty misunderstandings, and over the years Shen Yuan has become reluctantly fond of his Shizun. Abusing Luo Binghe was not a misunderstanding, though, and Shen Yuan will do whatever he can to correct the fact that he wasn't there to protect Luo Binghe when it happened. -- “Shizun, I already said that I like beasts best - if I can’t raise Luo Binghe to be my shidi, can’t I raise him as my pet instead?”
✒️ • Heart Made of Strings
Shen Yuan was apparently, an average disciple. According to Ning Yingying and some older Shimei’s, everyone had been baffled when Shizun had made him a personal disciple. He was good enough to be an inner disciple but not the best by a long shot, and Shizun only took The Best. He didn’t get into any of the infighting senior disciples normally did for their Shizun’s favor because according to Ning Yingying “Shizun thinks Shen-Shixiong is a lazy brat, and Shixiong doesn’t care what anyone thinks ‘cause he’s always trying to get off the mountain to go hunt monsters like he’s some Bai Zhan Brute.” She had then assured Luo Binghe that he’d love Shen Yuan. Luo Binghe has a sinking feeling in his chest that perhaps, this is the most accurate thing his Shijie has ever said to him.
🐥 • you're not coming home?
Shen Yuan works in the kitchens of Qing Jing Peak. It's not the best, but it's also not the worst. He just wants to lay low and get the hell out when Luo Binghe shows up. Shen Qingqiu has other ideas.
🐥✒️ • Like Real People Do
Waking up in that trash omegaverse novel is the last thing Shen Yuan ever wanted. In fact, if you’d have asked the twenty year old to make a list of his top ten nightmare scenarios this would have been in the top three. As far as he figures he has one way and one way only to survive this before Luo Binghe kills everyone; Run as fast and far as he can and pray to the heavens that the plot never interferes with him! And if that doesn’t work, he can always pledge his loyalty to the future demonic emperor and beg for his forgiveness. (Although Luo Binghe isn’t particularly inclined towards forgiveness towards men.) . . . He needs to get away from Cang Qiong as fast as possible.
✒️🐥 • The Twelfth Flight
Shen Yuan dies and wakes up in the body of a young dragon. He resolves to not deal with that, per Shen Yuan standard and is promptly adopted by the twelve flights of the Cang Qiong Mountain range. There he meets a grumpy but reliable Shen Jiu, and is consistently baffled at how Liu Qingge remains living and breathing. Or; Shen Yuan gains too many uncles and somehow trips his way into emotional maturity.

I see a lot of confusion on why calling Damian Wayne "feral" is racist/problematic, so here's a rundown.
There's a difference between calling your child or your younger sibling "feral" and calling a character like Damian "feral." You know your child/sibling/niece/nephew etc. They're real people, and unless they have a problem with it personally, then there's nothing wrong with calling them feral as a joke. It doesn't (shouldn't) affect their perceptions by other people. It doesn't become a label that follows them.
Damian al Ghul-Wayne is a fictional character. A canonically mixed Arab/Chinese/Jewish White character with a history connected to some of the most prominent Arab comic book characters, who themselves also get insanely mischaracterized.
He's constantly whitewashed. He's been written with racist undertones (the suicide bomber vest). He's had his character development and progress backtracked time and time again by DC. DC treats him weirdly most days and completely shitty in the worst stories.
A good majority of fanon hasn't done any better than DC. You cannot pat yourselves on the back for being more inclusive or mental health aware than DC when you call a mixed Arab/Chinese boy "feral". It's constant. You can come up with various titles and nuances for every Bat-character, for every Robin.
Tim can be smart, a skater, a genius, the one holding everyone together, the little brother, the one who needs love. Jason can be cool, morally "right" or "wrong", unstable, PTSD-stricken, the one who was betrayed, the one with Shakespearean tragedies. Dick can be fun, happy, the first one, the prodigal son, the one with complicated history and the big brother.
You give them room for exploration. Love and care and attention and research. Many headcanons. You either comply with canon or you don't, but there's substance to their character.
What does Damian get? He's feral. He's rabid. He's a gremlin. He can't be reasoned with. He has no self-control, he's impulsive. He's hurt others, and you can't forgive it. Sometimes he's homophobic. Or classist. Or plain mean and rude to your favorite boy. He's always carrying a sword. A psychopath with no regard for another's well-being (usually Tim in a lot of fics). He can't be taught what's right.
I've seen people cry that Damian needs to punished or kicked out or treated the same way he's treated others. He needs to be brutalized or talked down to. He can never grow as a person, because he's mean to Tim or Jason, and you need him to exist as the abuser. His first move is always violent.
Fanon compares him to an animal often; he bites, claws, hisses, growls. Bruce or Dick or Jason or Tim have to wrangle him, tame him, civilize him the white man's way in lieu of his brown mother and grandfather who "clearly" raised him wrong. You don't see the issue with that? The issue with always labeling one of the few major brown characters in Batman comics as the unreasonable animal? That the child of color is always the abuser, the instigator, to older characters?
And even if you don't see him this way, you don't write him this way - then are you giving him the care and attention you give for other Bat characters?
Do you know anything else about him other than his "anger"? Because he isn't always angry. In fact, he's typically well-mannered. Quiet even, when he's not being provoked. DC's writing will always vary but whenever Damian lashes out, he's usually written with a reason to act the way he does.
Are you making him intelligent like he should be? A hard believer in redemption? A neglected and abused child who isn't meek or crying or closes himself within? Are you willing to explore that he's always exhibited the "wrong" kind of trauma responses - lashing out, being snippy, ruining relationships, refusing to admit weakness?
Do you write anything about him without making his mother and grandfather comically abusive and violent? Will you give him the supporting cast/friends he actually has? Can you write his dad/siblings interacting with him without making them white saviors or therapy pets? Can you write him without a ship or his love for animals or being vegetarian overshadowing everything?
Is he a character to you at all other than a glorified plot device with a sharp tongue and the convenience of being violent?

The other day on twt TB ran with Harry saying that Helaena is in an abusive marriage. While the actual actors that portray A&H have confirmed that it’s not.
Like, it may not be a loving marriage in a romantic sense because every Targaryen doesn’t like having to marry their brother/sister which is completely understandable. It is difficult to share parents, share a childhood, to have those memories where your spouse was just your sister or your brother, to be raised and told constantly to protect and look after your siblings, to go from normal sibling arguments and trading insults- and then be expected to see this person as your lover and spouse. It’s much harder than this fandom thinks.
That’s not to say that they don’t love one another at all, I think they do but just as siblings… you know, like normal people.
I agree - to consider their relationship as banally abusive and full of hatred is a very superficial approach.
In general, I'd really like the series to devote more time to revealing their relationship. After all, we could get a study of the problem of incest and forced marriage using the example of Aegon and Helaena. How wrong it is when a person perceives their brother/sister as a potential husband/wife since childhood. How traumatic it is when the boundary between kinship and romantic/sexual relashionship disappears. How disgusting it is when siblings are literally forced to enter into such relationships and they don't even have a chance for true love and a healthy marriage.
We're shown from the very beginning that Aegon didn't want to marry his sister, this marriage was a prison for both of them and they were both victims of this situation.
When the twins were born, Helaena was a child, Aegon was a teenager at best, both in a forced marriage. What kind of readiness for parenthood can we even talk about? And yes, Helaena gave birth to two children at the age of 13-14.
Their relationship is very interesting to explore - it's complicated, traumatic, but I think they care about each other anyway. Aegon and Helaena may not love/like each other as husband and wife, but that doesn't mean they're indifferent to each other or even don't like/hate each other. They're still siblings and they have children. Even in the series, we see that Helaena isn't a victim of constant abuse. She laughs at Aegon's jokes at dinner and isn't afraid to express her opinion about their marriage during a toast. The world isn't divided into black and white and this relationship is a vivid example of this.

Haunting Adeline is bad.
It only gained hype because of the controversial themes because the construction is crap. A poorly written book with shameful dialog and characters shallower than the drain in my sink. The book makes an effort to be profound, showing how cruel and dark the world is, but in the end it tries so hard that it's more like those One Direction fics kidnapping Y/N. Adeline herself as the protagonist seems to have come straight out of a Wattpad self insert. It's also unnecessarily long. There's no justification for this story being 600 pages long, let alone a sequel. If you take away all the unnacessary bullshit, the whole duology could fit into a single book.
Such a long book, but it still fails to introduce us to the basic concepts of the characters. So many things are poorly explained that they basically expect readers to accept just “because...”? For example, Zade's motivation? I finished the book without understanding his backstory and why he would go so far to do what he does. “That's because he's angry about the existence of child trafficking”, congratulations Zade, you're a normal person who is outraged by child violence, so what? One person finding abuse wrong (which in itself is ironic when it comes to Zade, given what he does to Adeline) isn't enough to justify everything he does. He ends up being the author's puppet for action and smuty kinky scenes, rather than a complex character.
Speaking of kinky, I see a lot of people (including the author apparently) who don't know the basic difference between fetish and abuse. All fetish and kinks, including cnc, needs to be done in a healthy, safe and consensual way. These are the basics of the practice and are non-negotiable. Practically all the sex scenes in this book that take place between Adeline and Zade fall into the dub-con (dubious consent) spectrum. Whether it's because he's forced himself on her, coerced her, manipulated her, etc., from the lightest to the heaviest, all the sex between them has a non-consensual aspect in addition to the disparity of power in the relationship that was not negotiated between them. So you can't use the excuse that it's a fetish so anything goes, because that's simply not the reality. If you let go of the dark romance for a second and actually research how this works, you'll quickly realize that the way this book deals with fetish is extremely off the mark.
Lastly, there's the issue of human/child trafficking. I see a lot of people criticize how graphic the scenes are, which for me wasn't a problem, but very few people talk about how the vision portrayed in the book refers to a line of thought that connect whit the crazy right-wing american conspiracy theorist mentality . Whenever there was a scene involving violence against children, I had the impression that H.D Carlton had studied the subject on the QAnom forum. Anyone who does the slightest bit of research on the subject knows that the main victims of this kind of violence are not the white suburban American children of the traditional family, as we see repeatedly portrayed through Zade's missions. It's not a black van that springs up in an upper-middle-class neighborhood and steals away a beloved child while their parents cry copiously over the loss. Those who are targeted are usually non-white, disabled children from very poor areas who are generally forgotten by the system. Not to mention that the book kind of implies that most of the guys involved in the dirty work of kidnapping the children are Mexicans and mestizos. These are the people we see Zade, the white guy, fighting against to save the day. Also I'm not Jewish so I can't say 100%, but the way the author constructed the secret society plus all the strange and conspiracy-oriented things in the book gave me an anti-Semitic vibe. The secret society in this book is literally a ctrl+c ctrl+v of Blood Libel. Maybe I'm going too far with my interpretation, but considering that the author literally had to put a disclaimer at the beginning that she has no connection with conspiracy theory groups, I don't think I'm so wrong to notice parallels.

Do you ever struggle with being demonized for your quietness? I have, pretty much my whole life. I think it's a huge problem in society, if I'm being honest. I'm tired of acting like my whole child-self was in the wrong for not being able to bring myself to talk in a lot of situations, especially since I didn't get diagnosed and treated for my disorders until I was an adult. To be honest, I think it's society's way of demonizing people with AvPD, non-verbal autism and selective mutism. Thinking people like us are "rude" or "suspicious" for only speaking when spoken to, or having a non-verbal episode where we can't speak at all. I was suspected of being violent or "hiding something". Also I was deemed "weird" and treated like some alien due to other neurodivergencies as well.
People on this website sometimes act like being quiet is also a weakness or result of privilege. My parents were encouraging me and trying to get me to speak all the time, though. No one was saying "you don't have to speak if you don't want to". My father used to get angry with me about it, calling me "weak" and my mother used to guilt-trip me for it, claiming I "never tried hard enough" for her because I couldn't get myself to be neurotypical.
I also grew up in a world of domestic violence. My mother told me the abuse she faced from my father started getting particularly worse when she was pregnant with me. I was a little child born on-edge and having to walk on eggshells. My parents would get into violent fights with each other and my father would hit me, too. Both my parents worked and instead of spending time at home playing or bonding with family like other kids did, I was made to go to headstart when I was only like 2. I know it might seem like not a big deal, but thinking about it, I didn't have the same experiences that average kids do, and I still don't know if whether or not that contributed to my avoidant personality. I didn't even realize most kids don't even start school until they're 4 or 5 until I was much older. People have been getting me out there and encouraging me to socialize with others since the very beginning. It never worked.
I spent my whole life hating myself for it. I felt like I was never competent and that I was a burden on my mother. And there were many times I did try to make connections with others but they ended up either backstabbing me or shaming me for my interests. I regret a lot of the times I allowed myself to be known by others. There are many memories of me simply saying things to people that make me feel awful. Terrible disorder.
I did manage to make and keep some friends. But also I'm still not truly myself with most of them and still afraid they're going to end up demonizing me too if they knew more about me. Being queer and growing up with having kinks has left me with seeing so much family, strangers, and even other queer people say people like me are "freaks" and "degenerates" to my face without knowing they're talking someone who's exactly the kind of person they think should be killed.
I saw a post recently and honestly, it doesn't even apply to me. However, it still managed evoke a lot of negative emotions and memories I am experiencing right now...
So there's this post going around that goes something like "discourse about letting kids not say 'trick or treat' is concerning"(paraphrasing) which was weird to me at first because I've never seen anyone say they allow their kids not to say it. I've always said "trick or trick" during Halloween as a kid, even adding some "meows" because I liked being a cat. So it doesn't even apply to me.
But then there were people acting like not saying it comes from a place of privilege. Someone was like (paraphrasing again)"when I was giving out candy, all the black children were lively and sweet, and all the kids who didn't say it were white and probably middle class".
And that struck me a bit. I'm mixed race. People treated me like a potential violent threat because of my quiet nature, which was a result from trauma, not anyone "babying" me. I was always working class. My parents didn't even own a car. We used public transportation to get everywhere.
BIPOC kids who are quiet get treated as threats! Of course you fucking enjoy lively black kids. If one of them was quiet, you might demonize them...
Then there were people saying "you people just need to grow up."
It's so strange that traits that apply to non-verbal autism or CPTSD get deemed as "social anxiety", because tumblr thinks that is the lesser disorder.
I don't know. I got a lot of bad memories spring up from seeing that post, and I just wanted to vent about it here. So many people demonized me for being quiet growing up and it made me believe I was a monster for so long.
I'm not even saying I encourage the behavior of refusing to talk to people. I had a nice conversation with an old woman at Dunkin yesterday. I enjoy small talk and listening to others talk, even when I can't add much to the conversation. I just worry about other children who are like how I was growing up, being traumatized and quiet and being treated like shit for it... I don't trust anyone sees "quiet" as "rude"
I'm sorry about the length and I hope you're doing well.
anon, I'm sorry this took me so long to post. I just want to say that your ask really resonated with me and I've thought about it several times since receiving it. I get similarly frustrated when I see priveleged people praising marginalized for being more friendly, more whatever, for similar reasons. Or setting up an oppression competition between two groups they're not even a part of.

I want to add a little something to your Problem With Izuku post, if you don't mind.
This is something I only just thought about yesterday, and I know it's not the first time people have complained about this, but Izuku's not allowed to have anything beyond a black and white view of heroics and heroes as a whole.
When Shigaraki takes him hostage in the mall and asks why people are listening to Stain and not him, Izuku says that he can understand Stain's motives, even though he doesn't condone them. He also says that he doesn't understand what Shigaraki's aiming to achieve with his wanton destruction. That's all well and good. You'd think this would lead to him realizing that not all heroes are altruistic, maybe reflect on how not all men are created equal (the first line in the entire goddamn series), but nope. He says he can understand Stain... because they're both fans of All Might. And Shigaraki just takes this at face value!
He's not allowed to reflect on what all Lady Nagant has been put through at the hands of the HPSC, or that people really don't like the new #1 hero being a child abuser who engaged in eugenics. We don't see any of his views changing in his time outside of UA. For that matter, we don't even really see him truly reflecting on Stains views or his valid points on how heroes can be and are corrupt.
I won't even talk about his views on Bakugou, because you know them well and that's probably the biggest complaint people have on him.
You're absolutely right.
One thing I actually despise about Hori's writing is that all the characters (not just Izuku) aren't allowed to change their views no matter what.
Take Hawks for example. Even though I like Hawks, I completely understand why others don't. He had an abusive father and ends up idolizing another abusive father. And when the Todoroki past gets unveiled, he just... Doesn't react. Because there's "no time" or whatever bs excuse. It would be one thing if he came to the realization that the version of Endeavor he had in his head never existed and had to come to terms with it. But none of that because that would require him to be more complex past being a prop for Endeavor's development.
We also see this with 1A, more so Mina and Kirishima. They hate bullying and constantly stood up for others at their old school. But they almost never defend Izuku against Bakugou (they'll chime in and scold him but that's really it). All of 1A just doesn't react to Bakugou's apology. Sure, you can say that they don't tell him off because he apologized and Izuku "accepted it" (not really), but none of 1A just doesn't care? No making sure Bakugou sticks to his promises? No wavering of their idealization of him?
Aizawa refuses to see past his trauma over Oboro and projects that onto his students relentlessly. And what's worse is he thinks his actions are 100% right so that probably won't change any time soon.
I think the only characters who do make significant changes in their views are All Might, Iida, Rock Lock, and Lady Nagant. All Might thought that being a hero quirkless was impossible, but after losing OFA he joins the fight and even faces AFO by himself without a quirk. The Stain altercation made Iida broaden his world view and understand that things aren't as black and white as he thought they were. Rock Lock forced himself to acknowledge that Izuku was a real hero even if he was a kid. Lady Nagant's faith in the world was restored because she saw hope in the form of Izuku.
So Horikoshi can do this, he just refuses to give most characters- like Izuku- any kind of depth or deeper thinking

Pairing: copia & teen/child reader (gender neutral)
Tw: anorexia, slight theme of past abuse, crying, eating disorders, mentions of passing out/fainting
A/n: a little thing I wrote in @ghostussy “faith” universe you can read on their Ao3 in their bio! Also note that this is not proof read, also self indulgent. I also think that there should be more visibility for people who struggle with anorexia and eating disorders in general
“Amore! What happened?! The school called and said it was an emergency?” Copia bursted through the nurses room door, not caring if anyone in the hallway saw the strange painted man swiftly sprinting through them.
You raised your head slowly, low energy stopping you from saying anything. You try to speak, but it just comes out as a soft whimper and a breathy sound.
“Amore? What is the problem?” He continues, taking his hands to hold your arms as he kneels before the examination bed.
“Don’t….feel well.” You mumble
Copia tries to understand what your saying, and then he connects the few letters he heard with your body language.
“Oh bambino, could you explain how you feel? I need to know if you need a doctor, or even worse the hospital.” He adds, serious but all going.
Copia rubs your shoulder as tears prickle in your eyes.
“Please don’t be mad at me papa.” You start to cry, seeing the school nurse enter the white room.
Copia turns even more concerned, he looks to the nurse for answers.
“They need to eat, drink, and sleep more. They didn’t have any fluids, neither anything in their stomach. They passed out in the middle of class.” The nurse says, her monotone voice upsetting copia that she didn’t seem to care.
“Bambino, what is this about?”
“I’m sorry…”
“There’s no need to be sorry, why have you not eaten or been drinking anything?”
“I-“ you give up in defeat, more disappointed in yourself than the reason for this
Copia brings his hands to yours, then cupping your face. “Let’s go home, si? Would it be easier if you told me in the car, or in my office?”
You nod as he wipes away your tears trailing down your cheeks.
In the car, you set your backpack in your lap as copia takes a seat beside you. He motions for the ghoul behind the wheel to leave for the ministry.
Copia eyes you, reading your expressions to figure out why you had skipped both breakfast and lunch, even drinking too.
“So…” copia looks out the window
“I’m really sorry copia, I didn’t mean to scare you.” You sniffle
“Oh it’s alright, accidents happen. But, you know that Im always here for anything alright?” Copia nods with a smile.
“It’s because I needed to loose weight.” You admit, eyes sagging a bit from exhaustion.
Copia quickly turns his head, puzzled by your answer.
“What do you mean Bambi?” Copia asks, bringing a finger to push baby hairs sticking to your face behind your ear.
“I’m….well…I’m fat.” You whisper, unable to bear the awkwardness growing as he continues to listen.
“And who told you that?” Copia tries to stay calm, many people going in and out his head of who could call you that.
“Mom…” you breathed, a strand tear finding its way down your neck.
Copia takes a breath, understanding the situation more.
“So, because your mother had said that- all those years ago, you still believe it?”
You hide your face in your arms against the window on the door, anxiety building up and crawling into your throat.
“Yeah.” You mumble
“I’ll be honest with you darling, I did notice your eating patterns the day you arrived. I didn’t want to say anything, after all it was so much for you and you were severely injured.” Copia gently says, as if your glass
You look at him, eyes filled with shame.
“Oh bambino, you are not fat at all! I know words might not do anything to help, i promise you I’ll find a way to prove it to you.” Copia argues, kindness like a light in his voice.
You can’t do anything but nod, still feeling awkward in the silence.
“Well, I understand more now. I’ll let you know that I appreciate you telling me, and that im very happy you trusted me with this information.” Copia adds, brining a hand to your head for a gentle rub.
“Thank you papa, are you still mad?” You worry for his response.
“Oh bambino, how could I ever be mad with you? This is nothing to be angry about, simply worried was all.” He replies
“So…it’s going to be ok?” You ask, shocked that anyone would be as of kind to you for this reason.
“It’s all going to be ok bambino, trust me, I’ll work with you through this.”

sorry spamming hunger games i promise i'll go back to normal in a second i just need to say
I feel like I keep seeing people reduce Gale to just. the opposite of Peeta. And he's more than that I mean both characters are. Yes there's Symbolism about which one Katniss chooses but it's not just "Gale is Violent and Vengeful while Peeta is Kind and Forgiving". Gale taught Katniss to survive- he helped her hunt, taught her some snares, gave her a bigger community in the Seam beyond just her mother and sister, also he was a friend to her. someone she could talk to. And she got a lil crush on him then fell for Peeta before Gale started to reciprocate. But he helped her to survive just as much as Peeta with the bread. Peeta and Gale both feed Katniss she feeds both of them there's no "Gale is destruction Peeta is creation" it's not like that. Gale is surviving Peeta is living. And yes this is entirely rooted in Peeta being an only child supported by his parents while Gale had to support his whole family. Of course Peeta had better quality of life. painting his little cakes. (But he also had his share of abuse from his mom. And Gale had a loving family. It's not all black and white.) Both are trying ever so hard to be good. and both are full of love. But Gale never had the opportunity to get out of survival mode. Katniss did for a little bit after winning the games. She got to rest she got to figure out just what she's about. She wouldn't have made it there without the help of both guys. And once she's there of fucking course she gets with Peeta. he's seen the other Districts he knows they're not the enemy but Gale doesn't. Then Gale's entire world is bombed and he's dropped with Beetee who's similarly ruthless so of course he becomes more action oriented that doesn't make him terrible from the start! He wasn't bad for Katniss all those years! He just never had the resources or the security to become more than a survivalist a hunter a trapper. The problem isn't Gale el problema es el capitalismo

propaganda under the cut!
anders:
So for context as to Why This Has Happened, he does happen to be an incredibly controversial character because of bad writing and that time he blew up a catholic church (complicated), so a lot of fans, even fans who otherwise wouldnt do so, of him swung HARD in the other direction of "he has basically no flaws at all" which is. Not True. Even if you agree with the blowing up a church thing. He is RUDE and MEAN and HAS BOUNDARY ISSUES. also he js very much the epitome of Extremely White activist and doesnt know how to communicate unless he is arguing (he is not good at arguing and he does not like doing it. these conflicting traits cause exactly the amount of problems you think it would).
Now are these various issues he has generally due to "forcibly imprisoned in a cult", "a year of solitary confinement", and "hes mentally ill and his writer is incredibly ableist"? Yeah for sure. But that doesnt mean the solution is to scrub every flaw he has away or pretend like they dont matter or blame it on the (very cool and sweet) guy possessing him (willingly) its SO uninteresting. And then if you try to talk about these flaws you get people excitedly talking about how they always without fail kill the passively suicidal man and how his romance is inherently abusive to the pc or some shit. Im DYING out here
link:
I know this is like really minor but it bugs me SO much. Ok so. At the beginning of the game, Link gets woken up by Zelda. She calls him a sleepyhead. Later in the game, she references that he would oversleep sometimes. Some of the other npcs do this also. Fandom decided that this was one of his only personality traits, being a sleepy little soft guy who loves his girlfriend soooo much (ok, he does love her a lot, but that's not the point).
This just makes me so upset because he. is. not. sleepy.
Oversleeping doesn't make you sleepy! Many fics portray him as someone that's very soft and gentle and kind and can fall asleep anymore!
At the very most, he's tired. He pushed himself hard during his quest, losing sleep. Afterwards, he would probably go back to a regular sleep schedule and sleep fine (barring nightmares). This is a very different thing than sleepy!
Anyway. Next point. Soft and gentle. He is a kind person, he's on a time sensitive quest and he'll stop to help a mother find her lost child, help a demon become human, find a LOT of lost things, all sorts of stuff like that, but he is not soft and gentle. At the very beginning of the game, he tells the bully "nice hair" (it's kinda ridiculous). Many of his answers are short and blunt. He says "not that guy" when he has to enlist the help of someone he doesn't like. He broke a chandelier for the equivalent of five dollars. He eavesdropped on a private argument-- like literally if you walk by the house at the right time control is taken from the player and he'll walk towards and listen to it. He tells a guy that his elder is dead just for shits and giggles (he's not).
Anyway. Fandom, of course, remembers none of this. He's the peacemaker, he's the soft and gentle one, he falls asleep whenever possible-- he is none of these things! The only thing they get right is that he loves Zelda!
I just want the fics where he's properly snarky and rude and tired (of this bullshit), is that too much to ask?

Some more "ppl defending Mrs. Bakugo" crimes against my mental wellbeing
People on titok are genuinely insane oml
"It's not abuse tho abuse is where its mentally and emotionally affecting the child's well being. and i think Bakugo is completely fine since thats his family's love language." GURL WHAT. GURL. DID YOU WATCH THE SAME SHOW?? IS BAKUGO DEVELOPING A CRIPPLING INFERIORITY COMPLEX AT THE AGE OF 6 NOT AFFECTING HIS WELLBEING???
"this is just for comedy... plus Bakugo is a brat and needs to be slapped sometimes" literally no child *NEEDS* to be slapped. the 16 yr old boy does not NEED to be slapped and esp not in front of his teachers who he genuinely looks up to and respects? ESP NOT WHILE BEING TOLD HE'S THE REASON THAT THEY NEED TO BE MOVED INTO DORMS IN THE FIRST PLACE????
"They're just messing around, have you never had a good relationship with your mother?" I have a lovely relationship with my mom, and there is a SOLID different between being lightly and playfully smacked on the shoulder during a lighthearted conversation AND BEING HIT ACROSS THE HEAD WHILE BEING YELLED AT TO SHUT UP IN FRONT OF *MY ONLY IDOL*
"Plus lets not forget in the earlier seasons this dude was a BULLY plus if you look at Bakugo he isnt even phased by her words he's just mad cuz she hit him. also if you watch the rest of the episode, Mitsuki says to All Might and Aizawa to take care of Katsuki and shows worry for him" oh so there's plenty to unpack here! First up. I WONDER WHY HE WAS A BULLY? I WONDER WHERE THAT 5 YEAR OLD LEARNED THOSE BEHAVIORS?? IT WASNT FROM ALL MIGHT VIDEOS, I PROMISE YOU THAT ?! Next up: "he isnt even phased, he's just mad she hit him." Bbg if you're told you're trash even just once a week for at least a year, you will stop reacting to it every time, in the moment. that does not change the mental stress it puts on you. Now add in the factors of "its def more than just once a week," "that is his MOTHER," "He's already immensely guilty about the situation," and "HE IS A CHILD." Then we have, "He's just mad she hit him." YOU'RE TELLING ME. YOU WOULD NOT BE UPSET. IF YOU WERE HIT BY YOUR MOTHER. IN FRONT OF *ANYONE* YOU RESPECT. LET ALONE THE LITERAL SYMBOL OF PEACE. WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE HIT BY *YOUR* MOTHER IN FRONT OF FUCKING IRON MAN?!
Last but MOST CERTAINLY not least: "She shows worry for him." Babe imma hold your hand in an white knuckle grip when i tell you this. I don't think you've ever been abused in your life. Because you do know that most abusers don't wake up thinking "MAN today will be a great day to torment my only son," right? She doesnt think she's abusing him. She's just doing what comes natural to her. She isnt reflecting on what effect her actions have had on her kid, she's the mother so ofc she's in the right and she loves her son so clearly the problem is his peers praising his powers too much, I cant possibly be to blame because i love him! She doesn't think about how its affecting him at all. Hell, it could even be a cycle bc honestly it already is one. When Katsuki is faced with unruly children he correctly identifies that there's some kind of lead kid (because he was a lead kid at that age, he was a problem child), and then HIS SOLUTION IS TO PHYSICALLY FIGHT THE KIDS, USING THE JUSTIFICATION THAT THAT WAS HOW HE WAS RAISED AND IN HIS OPINION HE TURNED OUT FINE.
This is actually a trap I've fallen into myself, I have recommended a little more tough love against my little siblings because I was treated much more harshly at that age than they are now. I WAS NOT IN THE RIGHT. KATSUKI IS NOT IN THE RIGHT. THIS IS HOW MALTREATMENT CHANGES A CHILD'S MIND. THIS IS HOW IT WARPS OUR VIEW OF THE WORLD AROUND US. Unless he gets some serious SERIOUS help, he will carry these experiences with him for the rest of his life. He might become just as terrible a parent as his mother.
His behavior is not his fault. He is a CHILD. A MINOR. If he was in his twenties and has experienced life firsthand and he was still being a bully for no reason or being physically violent with minimal to no provocation, I would agree that he needs a serious wakeup call. Still wouldnt agree with hitting him, but like yeah he's an adult, his prefrontal cortex is fully developed, he should be self reflecting. But AT SIXTEEN. HE IS A CHILD, A LITERAL CHILD. THIS KIND OF HOUSEHOLD ENVIROMENT IS ALL HE FUCKING KNOWS. IT IS THE RESULT OF HOW HIS PARENTS RAISED HIM, WHICH WAS TOXIC, ABUSIVE, AND EMOTIONALLY NEGLECTFUL.
Shoutout to the one guy in that comment section fighting for his life making good points as to the fact that YES Mitsuki is the fucking issue.

The Lemonade Leak: Story Ratings and Chapter List
Personal thoughts on chapter below cut (Contains Spoilers)
This chapter has such a uniquely different feel than the others!! Like a new story all together. Definitely interesting!! Especially as this chapter is from Draxum’s POV which has only happened a few other times.
Two stumbled but kept talking like he wasn’t. “Rayas, tell the docs I want structural and functional MRIs of the new parasites. No unnecessary chems before we have all scans.” He patted the Tiger’s arm as he passed him, “I want two of your men to stay on guard in case the bodies make problems. I don’t mind who, as long as it’s not Alopex again, juro que la vi masticando su máscara médica.”
To translate, Leo said “I swear I saw her chewing on her medical mask.” Which I find rather hilarious.
A new kind of grin unfurled on the boy’s face. It caught the light in white teeth, bright in the dark, as if the very night herself recoiled from it. “No. But I’ll make sure you can try, pa-pi-to. Soon enough.” Draxum’s stomach turned for a reason he couldn’t place.
This has got to be the smartest, cleverest, most manipulative Leo I’ve ever seen. Heather becoming less and less of a person, a human being, and more like a machine driven by a task, a goal, a purpose. Leo, as Draxum built him, is a weapon, and he’s going through and executing his actions to get to his purpose.
I don’t have many little things to say about this chapter, mostly because everything is going by so fast. I seriously can’t praise this fanfic enough, it’s so expertly written!! I love the shift in tone as the story progresses!! I think, one of the things I love the most, is how incredibly detailed each individual each POV is. The story isn’t just being viewed through a different set of eyes, but being told by an entirely different person. Each POV feels like switching fanfics!! I really enjoyed the medical setting in this chapter, and seeing how Draxum sees it. It’s fun imagining what this would look like through Mikey’s POV, or Leo’s or Donnie’s even. I love how much effort has gone into writing each POV so uniquely!!

Rain --- Aiai-gasa ☔🧑🏼‍❤️‍🧑🏻
Tumblr media
I don't know if I'm thinking about things too much, but since with Yoneda we are used to living in paranoia I couldn't help but overanalyze Rain's promotion. Some time ago I found interesting information about the word Aiai-gasa (相合傘) which means sharing an umbrella: 相合 (aiai, “doing things together”) +‎ 傘 (kasa, “umbrella”) but which has a strong romantic implication since the first two characters are pronounced あい (ai) just like the word love, then this would have the connotation that both people under that umbrella would be in love.
With this information you can already imagine everything I started to create in my mind. The first thing I thought of was finding all the moments related to the umbrella theme within saezuru. I remembered some emblematic cases, but the truth was that I did not give it so much importance to others and that is a mistake when reading saezuru.
Tumblr media
For example, something important is that Yashiro doesn't share his umbrella with anyone like Aoi and Kageyama do. When Aoi insists on waiting in the rain for Doumeki to come out of the Shinseikai's office to convince him to quit the yakuza, Yashiro would rather buy him an umbrella at the kombini than share the one that already has this clearly because he thinks Aoi is Doumeki's girlfriend and sees her as a problem.
In the case of Kageyama, when we travel back in time to high school, Yashiro doesn't share his umbrella when he decides to go see him because of his father's death, let's just say Yashiro doesn't know about kindness at this time in his life and it's just beginning to discover his feelings for his "friend".
A detail that I found very interesting is that both Aoi and Yashiro as a teenager use a light-colored umbrella and the rest of the characters only use dark colors, even Yashiro's changes color now in his maturity. I leave them for reflection.
Tumblr media
Using Kageyama's school life we can see that scenes of couples walking together under an umbrella while it rains are common in Japanese culture, it is said that you can tell which of the two people loves the other more by looking at who is wetter . In addition, paintings from the Edo period have been found that include the aiai-gasa symbol where the person writes his name and the name of the person he loves.
Tumblr media
Another interesting scene of the umbrella is the one that has to do with the relationship that existed between Misumi and Kurobane, which for me is a faithful reflection of the one between Yashiro and Doumeki. On several occasions it is hinted that they could have been much more than yakuza brothers, at least that is what I felt when the president of the Doushinkai tells Misumi that he has lost his better half. What if it was clear that Kurobane felt the same level of devotion for Misumi that Doumeki has for Yashiro.
Tumblr media
Now we are going with one of my favorite scenes from the manga that combines almost everything that saezuru symbolizes. Let's start by remembering the difficult time Yashiro is going through having to get rid of the man he loves. Yashiro and Doumeki already had sex and Yashiro broke into a thousand pieces because he found out that he had been a victim of abuse and that nothing that had happened was his fault. Yashiro kept reflecting that being with Doumeki would mean giving up everything he is and can't afford to. After Doumeki gets out of the car, Yashiro focuses on a mother and son walking under an umbrella in the rain, perhaps there can be a greater love than this.
Notice how all the cartoons up to that moment are in white and that after Yashiro sees the mother and son, everything goes dark and it even seems that it is raining inside the car. Seeing this, we can sense that Yashiro wonders why his mother didn't protect him when he was a child and allowed him to be abused. Then Doumeki re-enters the scene, everything lights up again and he brings an umbrella to protect him from the rain. I'm not crying ladies and gentlemen.
Tumblr media
Finally let's review how we went from the scene of an extra at the beginning of this manga to the last drawing of Yoneda. The situation is the same but how the language of the characters has changed. In the first scene Doumeki doesn't even dare to be under the same umbrella as his Kashira, he is getting completely wet, so the legend is true whoever loves the most is who gets the most wet. In the second scene, Doumeki is already under the umbrella because now he is no longer Yashiro's subordinate, now they are in equal rank and feelings, who could doubt at this point how much they both love each other despite the fact that the outlook is not very encouraging especially knowing how chapter 50 ended. If we start to analyze, the rain is another character within saezuru and it is no a coincidence that RAIN is the name of the next event.
Thank you if you have come this far reading my ramblings and obsessions. If there is something misspelled, you already know that Google Translator is to blame.

This is a post about feminism.
Stay with me.
I see a lot of posts that discuss American concepts of the carceral justice system, what justice itself is, how our particular brand of punishment-oriented justice is so influenced by puritanism and other brands of xtianity. I've thought about how this negatively affects our interpersonal relationships and leads to things like cancel culture, and the idea that people are either pure good or pure bad, and that a single mistake 10 years ago being "discovered" can dump you in the "bad" category.
And I've been thinking about what happens after a civil war. All the soldiers go home, you know. And now your neighbor, the person you knew for 10 years leading up to the war... he was on the other side of the fight. And now he's your neighbor again. How does a society heal from something like that? Because it does have to heal - you can't kill off everyone who fought for the losing side, because those people are your friends, your neighbors, your relatives.
I've also been mulling over in my mind why exactly certain feminists (often White Feminists and by extension radfems since radical feminism is a version of White Feminism) find it so hard to conceptualize a man who doesn't have privilege, much less a man who has less privilege than a woman. Or a male who has less privilege than a female. Why it's so difficult for them to separate the system of patriarchy from individual men. And I ponder why these kinds of feminists have a hard time thinking of a man who deserves love, who deserves the chance to heal, who could be raised to be kind.
And if it wasn't already clear, it becomes very obvious that White / Radical Feminists are calling for the enemy soldiers to be punished if not executed after the war. The American justice system is carceral and based on punishment: not only in jail, but forever afterwards once the prisoner is "freed". This is because at its core, our justice system is xtian, and believes that a single mistake forever marks you as a sinner. There is no true forgiveness in "this" life.
Men, in this perspective, are thus forever tainted. From birth, the male child is biologically predisposed to violence and raised to abuse; even if he does not abuse, he is culpable for the crimes of other men.
Pointing out the fact that marginalized men exist, or that men can be abused by the system, or that good men do exist, gets the phrase "so not all men?" derisively thrown at you. "Yes all men!" the White / Radical feminists scream. "Not all men, but enough men!" they cry. They need you to hate your neighbor, who has never hurt you. They need you to hate the literal hundreds of male strangers you've passed without problems on the street. They need you to hate marginalized men, too. He is a MAN, he is MALE, and forgetting that means you've forgotten who The Enemy Is.
And that just shows that White / Radical feminism is not sustainable, it is not healing, and it is not going to actually fix any of our problems.
