Bobtober Day 22 - Scratchy
Thought process was Scratchy> Christmas sweaters > the pin worm ep > turtle neck > Hana Barbera > Animation
This is an animation test on procreate. Iâve done a teeny bit of animation before on photo shop so I wanted to play around with iPad tools a little. And I messed up the layers. Eventually I hope to animate some dancing kiddos.

Iâll never forget when I was arguing with a person in favor of total prison abolition and I asked them âwhat about violent offenders?â And they said âWell, in a world where prisons have been abolished, weâll have leveled the playing field and everyone will have their basic needs met, and crime wonât be as much of an issue.â And then I was like âokay. ButâŚno. Because rich people also rape and murder, so it isnât just a poor person thing. So what will we do about that?â And I donât think they answered me after that. Iâm ashamed to say I continued to think that the problem was that I simply didnât understand prison abolitionists enough and that their point was right in front of me, and it would click once I finally let myself understand it. It took me a long time to realize that if something is going to make sense, it needs to make sense. If you want to turn theory into Praxis (Iâm using that word right donât correct me Iâll vomit) everyone needs to be on board, which mean it all needs to click and it needs to click fast and fucking clear. You need to turn a complex idea into something both digestible and flexible enough to be expanded upon. Every time I ask a prison abolitionist what they actually intend to do about violent crime, I get directed to a summer reading list and a BreadTuber. Itâs like a sleight-of-hand trick. Whereâs the answer to my question. There it is. No wait, there it is. Itâs under this cup. No it isnât. âThereâs theory that can explain this better than I can.â As if most theory isnât just a collection of essays meant to be absorbed and discussed by academics, not the average skeptic. âRead this book.â And the book wonât even answer the question. The book tells you to go ask someone else. âOh, watch this so-and-so, she totally explains it better than me.â Why canât you explain it at all? Why did you even bring it up if you were going to point me to someone else to give me the basics that you should probably already know? Maybe Iâm just one of those crazy people who thinks that some people need to be kept away from the public for everyoneâs good. Maybe that just makes me insane. Maybe not believing that pervasive systemic misogyny could be solved with a UBI and a prayer circle makes me a bad guy. But itâs not like womenâs safety is a priority anyway. Itâs not like there is an objective claim to be made that re-releasing violent offenders or simply not locking them up is deadly.
#Iâm sorry#there are just people out here who need punishment and to be contained and rehabilitation will not work#like Iâm one of the more insane people who thinks that you can rehabilitate anyone if they want to change and learn from their behavior#ANYONE#but there are people out here who do not and will not ever want it#and those people shouldnât get a pass because you read incomplete abolitionist theory once#and now you think that a UBI would solve everything#thatâs the thing about most abolitionists that Iâve noticed#once you press them on the hard shit#they go#well there are some good books on the subject#there are some other creators#okay#and what have those other books and creators said?#Tee Noir once started off a video telling people not to ask her to defend her defense of prison abolition#they should just âGoogle itâ she said (or something like that)#now I donât watch Tee Noir#gothra#feminism#social justice#prison abolition#criminal justice#prison reform#tw vomit

After doing some research on the types of pets people had in ancient Greece, I'd like to imagine that Helen is the sort of person who has a whole menagerie of birds â and she loves each and every one of them very, very much.
It fits well with her being good at mimicry, you know. Talking and imitating and singing with her beloved birds đ
Close up under the read more:
I had to include that one necklace from the minoan 'saffron goddess' fresco because it's my favourite thing Ever
#helen of sparta#greek mythology#greek myth art#tagamemnon#birds#this started as a helen with birds drawing. then turned into a chance to put helen in mycenaean accurate clothing.#and THEN turned into a sort of hades game art study/sprite because playing with half lineart + half rendering is just too much fun#speaking of fun: I really enjoyed making this!! Once I got a bit experimentative it really came together. I'm happy with the outcome! ^w^#choosing what birds and how many was a challenge... in my mind Helen has dozens of birds and all sorts of species. truly a crazy bird lady.#but I decided to focus on a few for this. maybe another time i'll make a piece with a ridiculous amount of birds for fun >:) hehe#I cant remember the source but I know I read somewhere that people would specifically train magpies to say hello/greet guests#and I love that little factoid (and love magpies very much) so that was an immediate choice for me to feature here.#I also love doves and goldfinches. goldfinches sound so delightful and stand out so they were my 'songbird' choice.#and I'd like to imagine that one specific dove snuggles up on helen's shoulder all the time <3#the only bird that's truly missing here is an indian ringneck parrot (which I initially wanted to put on the shoulder but changed my mind)#so if you're like me and watch too many parrot videos. just know helen has one of them that can't stop talking and posing lmao#capri_art

I've always wanted to learn bookbinding, ever since I was a wee little nerd, but there are a lot of things I've always wanted to learn, and this one has both a daunting upfront materials cost and a daunting upfront research cost. however, my sister is a jewel among siblings and gave me for christmas last year a handy dandy bookbinding manual, a block of good paper, and a little bag of tools.
but I still didn't have a suitable workspace, nor any of the many important tools and materials that she didn't include in her gift. so I just read the manual and pined. until maybe a month ago I got fed up with pining, flattened a cardboard box for a cutting mat, and went to town.
and I'm real proud of myself, so here's me rambling, plus photos!
I went to the thrift store and got glue + some fabric to bind the cover, went to Michaels for a paintbrush (and later went back for a metal ruler lmao it's amazing how useful it is to have a straightedge for cutting the paper), and...could not find material for the cover boards. so I went home and pined some more. but the urges were too strong, so after a couple hours of moping I got a stack of printer paper at the grocery store (I could not bring myself to use the good paper for my first, inevitably weak attempts, I just couldn't do it) and started making a little booklet. which was a great idea, it turned out, since it makes for good practice with cutting the paper, measuring things, punching holes in the signatures, etc.
I have a big box of greeting cards from Michaels, which I used for the covers. it didn't feel like I was making a Real Book, so I got some colored paper from the stationery store and used that for end papers.
so fancy~
galvanized by this success, I ordered a stack of chipboard online to use for cover boards; and once I was confident that I could cut paper without making it look too stupid (getting that straightedge ruler sure helped lol), I made signatures out of the good paper, left them under some heavy books overnight since I don't have a book press, and then punched holes in them! (huzzah for this nice video on getting the holes right)
my sister's gift included good linen thread. it's unwaxed, but after some poking around on r/bookbinding it looks like that just means I'll have to be more careful to avoid tangles and keep good tension. I am fine with this. I can be extra attentive. (I considered just running it over a beeswax candle, but one commenter said if your wax has paraffin in it, it could melt in a hot car, ruining the spine. I can't guarantee my candle is 100% beeswax, I didn't make it, so maybe we just move on.)
I don't have good linen fabric to use for the tapes, but the important part there is that the fabric be thin, sturdy, and not stretchy. the probably-cotton I got from the thrift store fits the bill, so it'll do!
this is a french link stitch, which I got from this exceedingly good tutorial. apparently it's strong enough on its own that for a book of this size, I don't actually need tapes, but I'd already cut the things so eh here we are. and tapes plus french link will make it a stronger binding still (according to a friendly redditor on r/bookbinding), so we carry on.
specifically we carry on to the gluing step. now as I mentioned, I do not have a book press, and you....kinda need one for this step. you need to hold the book block in place with the signatures facing upwards, pressed together hard enough that the glue won't run down between them and stick the pages together (though you do want the glue to get between them just a little, just for like a 16th of an inch). you at least need some clamps and a couple boards to sandwich the book block with.
but you know what? I'm not a professional, this is my first ever book, if it's a little bit off it'll be fine. so we grab all the heaviest books off the bookshelf and improvise.
it's fine! I'm sure it's fine! and just in case it's not, I've tucked a bit of cardboard underneath to catch any glue that drips down so it won't land on the floor. see? I'm prepared! I'm acing this.
and actually, it really was fine. I used clear elmer's glue, applied with a flat paintbrush from the art supplies aisle at Michael's, and frankly I liked the way the flat paintbrush let me slip glue in between the signatures. I did poke around on a couple bookbinding sites to see what kind of glue I should use, and the gist is that although there are better options than this, elmer's glue is perfectly serviceable, and the main downside is it's not archival grade. but I don't need my first bookbinding attempts to last 200 years, that's fine.
the next step is to add the mull. mull is a specific type of fabric â extremely loose-weave linen â and the idea is to paste it down over the spine to essentially hold the tapes and signatures all in place in relation to each other.
but I don't have mull! so I'm using more of the thrift store probably-cotton, because it's thin enough and not really stretchy at all. I'm sure this will be fine too. I painted a layer of glue onto the spine, then left it to dry a bit while I measured and cut the fabric, then painted a generous stripe of glue down the center, where it'll affix onto the spine. then I added a bit more glue to the spine, just to be sure, and pressed the mull into place, rubbing it thoroughly to make sure it's firmly affixed to every signature, with no creases in the fabric or air bubbles beneath it.
honestly I might have overdone it on the glue. I've never done this before, I don't know! I think it's okay, though â I tried not to ever let it become a thick layer, just a slight coating, since the danger of too much glue is that it might crack once dry and weaken the spine.
and now we leave it in the press overnight to dry, and pick up the next step in the morning!
#finx rambles#bookbinding#finx makes stuff#technically this is the second hardcover book I've made#but it's the first I'm making using Approved Techniquesâ˘#instead of watching a handful of half-relevant youtube videos and making up the rest#which was fun!#but did mean that once I was done I didn't know where to go from there#and at the time I couldn't find better resources#(I really wanted better youtube videos! just didn't know how to find them idk)#(it was 2020 I was unwell. as I'm sure we all understand)#but now I have an abundance of good sources#and I'm determined

some people on here make Hating All Social Rules such an obnoxiously large part of their personality that you could say "it is polite to avoid farting in a crowded elevator if you can help it" and they'd call you an oppressive puritan who hates the incontinent
#eliot posts#like sometimes social rules ARE pointless (or DO have a point but ultimately do more harm than good or are just unnecessarily inefficient)#but sometimes they're a useful way to consider the comfort of those around you#of course there are extenuating circumstances where following them is impossible or would put more burden on you than is fair or practical#in such cases it's good to make exceptions#and to automatically give rule breakers the benefit of the doubt instead of assuming they're being rude on purpose#anyway i once saw someone getting PISSED OFF bc a post said it's rude to watch videos without headphones on public transit#or this other time someone said public sex is always okay-#-and that it doesn't matter if ''public'' means a bathroom/back alley or if it neans the middle of the park in broad daylight#but it's not just about those two instances it's about an attitude i see on here in general#AND I AM SAYING THIS AS A QUEER AUTISTIC

your wood sculptures have me absolutely obsessed and i would love to take a crack at the medium, but i have NO idea where to start. Any tips youd be willing to share out?
i use a scroll saw and poplar wood (a little nicer to work with than pine but still affordable and easy to cut) and honestly i would recommend watching a lot of youtube videos! there are a lot of people out there making videos of their woodwork and explaining how to get different shapes and cuts done. a big thing with the scroll saw is it's hard to make tight turns, so rounded edges are way easier to create than sharp corners. invest in some good sandpaper and some replacement blades because you WILL break them, and be safe with regards to hand placement! i think that's about all the insight i've got, haha.
#ask#some of this advice is specific to using a scroll saw BUT lots of people use jig saws for this type of artistic woodworking#so if a jig saw is more accessible to you that's also an option. i just havent used one and have less advice for it#tho keeping your fingers in safe places and watching youtube videos for advice remains applicable to any type of saw i think#good luck! this kind of artistic woodworking is honestly pretty simple to get into once you have the hang of the tools and very fun :^)

âBut Kris, if I wanted to watch Anim vs. with all the different series how should I even go about it??â
It largely depends on the topics and cast youâre interested in seeing. The show is split into three subseries as well as the occasional standalone episode/miniseries: Animator vs. Animation (the original created in 2006-7 by Alan Becker alone), Animation vs. Minecraft (the longest and most popular, shorts stemming off a standalone from 2015), and Animation vs. Education (the newest from 2023, visualizing high-level STEM concepts)
Personally, I think core AvA is required reading for anyone who has appreciation for past eras of the internet, UI, or principles and genres of animation. AvM and AvE are equal in quality but honestly you wonât appreciate them as much if you arenât familiar with the topics they cover. Alan and his team do try to visually introduce things step by step, though, so you can at least get a general idea of what youâre looking at
Besides that, core AvA specifically follows the Hollow-Heads, hand-drawn stick figures created by the Animator, ânoogaiâ/Alan. In particular you have The Chosen One (shortened to Chosen, Cho or TCO) and The Second Coming (aka Second, Sec, TSC or Orange). TSC is the de facto main character and the only one appearing in all three series, while TCO and the Animator are exclusive to the original.
The SticksFight squad - the four sticks originating from sticksfight.com and named after their colors - have developed distinct personalities as the main cast of AvM, but only take a collective side role in main AvA (Yellow has a slightly larger role than the others). Hereâs a summary of their individual personalities so you know what to look for in their smaller appearances
Red - Impulsive and energetic, always the first to jump into action and with a soft heart for creatures and beasties. Heâs a little simple when it comes to technical things, but excels with reading the people around him, then building off of their quirks. Since the rest of the group babies him a bit, he puts in extra physical work to prove he can hold his own. Red also tends to play around with new or out-of-the-box solutions - knowledge that extends to his pranks. Most ready to fight with his fists or use heavy-hitters like maces and clubs. (Good intro/focus eps: The Rediscovery, Texture Pack, Monster School, The Prank)
Blue - A mellow fellow! Blue is one with nature and focuses on farming, cooking, and potionology. Due to her pacifistic tendencies, Blue prefers to reason things out or find other solutions rather than fighting, but will throw herself into the face of danger for others. Otherwise she takes up ranged weapons like guns and bows. Sheâs detail- and aesthetic-oriented as well as graceful, but doesnât often step outside what she knows. A bit of an addiction to nether wart, which is somewhere between an unusual snack and a drug. (Good intro/focus eps: Potions, The Piglin War, The Chef, Blueâs New Superpower)
Yellow - She loves more than anything to get down to the root of things, and that makes her the groupâs engineer! âŚAnd a bit of a troublemaker, paying more attention to the thrill of a discovery than the consequences. Yellow tries to find fairness and justice for friend and foe alike. While they have a reliable, supportive demeanor, theyâre also very peppy, excitable and tough with how they stand strong in dire situations. Often her fighting style takes place behind the scenes, using things like explosives or a command-casting staff. (Good intro/focus eps: The Roller Coaster, Command Blocks, Lucky Blocks, AvArcade Games)
Green - Originally the weakest on the team, but has since come into his own after a lot of reflex training (read: getting tossed around). Green has great adaptability to learning new techniques and getting creative, particularly with styles of music and architecture. He loves the spotlight and usually competes with the others or takes the chance to show off; however, he also cares deeply about welcoming in those he meets. Dashes and zips around all the time during battle, usually via fishing rod-grappling hook. (Good intro/focus eps: AvYouTube, Note Blocks, PvP, The Dolphin Kingdom)
If youâre just gonna watch the REQUIRED ones this is what I recommend:
AvA s1 (1-4, previously I-IV)
AvMinecraft (original)
AvYouTube
AvA s2 (5-8, previously âshortsâ combining into V)
AvMath
AvA s3 (9-ongoing)
That way you get the introduction of both subseries, with how each establishes the cast/direction, as well as one standalone. I put vs. YT here since it best fits the theme imo but you could go with vs. PokĂŠmon or vs. Arcade Games if you prefer
If youâre willing to take on AvM/the rest of the series this is pretty much the order of the timeline:
AvA s1
AvM (original)
AvYouTube
AvM shorts s1 (1-14)
AvLeague of Legends (required for an AvM characterâs development)
AvM shorts s2 (15-19)
AvA s2
Other standalones (Blueâs New Superpower + vs. ___)
AvM shorts s3 (20-30)
AvE (ongoing)
AvA s3 (ongoing)
AvM shorts s4 (ongoing)
Influencer Arc (1-3 + some interactive videos on the Greenzilla4 channel)
Or just follow my playlist!!!
#id in alt text#kris pratt-les on#kris liveblogs on#anim vs#animator vs animation#animation vs minecraft#animation vs education#alan becker#answering the questions no one asked for#tldr: everybody watch ava. watch avm if you like minecraft or want to see more of the chars hanging out. watch ave for more cool fights#I almost feel bad not giving second and chosen their own descriptions but they donât really need them if you go through just the main show#also a little note - in commentary and reaction videos alan refers to all the characters by he/him#but the series itself has little to no spoken dialogue and only tco is referred to as 'he' and tsc as 'it' once by the animator#theyâre essentially free to interpret otherwise and as such Iâm doing so with my interpretation here

I don't know what let's player needs to hear this but you should put the name of that indie game you're playing in the title of the video
#static speaks#ok it annoys me when youtubers dont put the name of the game in the title for two reasons#1. i just want to know what im watching before i get into it#2. if you're a massive youtuber playing a small indie game for an audience of millions. the least you can do is give them some visibility#we're in an age where popular youtube videos can make or break an indie game - look at fnaf bendy etc.#and dont get me started on titles like 'THE NEW FNAF' bc it completely wipes away any individual identity the game was going for#and makes your audience think its fnaf ripoff cash grab number 10000#most egregious example i can think of is nearly a decade old but i remember once seeing razzbowski post a video called#'the new hello neighbor'. he was playing bendy and the ink machine. literally what#anyway. end rant.

walter white from breaking bad
Walter Hartwell White (Breaking Bad) is an Anime Girl!
#my name is walter hartwell white. i live at 308 negra arroyo lane albuquerque new mexico 87104. this is my confession. if youre watching thi#s tape im probably dead. murdered by my brother in law hank schrader. hank has been building a meth empire for over a year and using me as#is chemist. shortly after my 50th birthday hank came to me with a rather shocking proposition. he asked that i use my chemistry knowledge t#cook methamphetamine which he would then sell using his connections in the drug world. connections that he made through his career with the#DEA. i was... astounded. i always thought that hank was a very moral man and i was thrown. confused. but i was also particularily vulner#able at the time. something he knew and took advantage of. i was reeling from a cancer diagnosis that was poised to bankrupt my family. han#took me on a ride along and showed me just how much money even a small meth operation could make. and i was weak. i didnt want my family to#go into financial ruin so i agreed. every day i think back at that moment with regret. i quickly realized that i was in way over my head an#hank had a partner. a man named gustavo fring. a business man. hank essentially sold me into servitude to this man and when i tried to quit#fring threatened my family. i didnt know where to turn. eventually hank and fring had a falling out. from what i can gather hank was always#pushing for a greater share of the business to which fring flatly refused to give him and things escalated. fring was able to arrange uh i#uess you could call it a hit. on my brother in law. and failed but hank was seriously injured. and i ended up paying his medical bills whic#amounted to a little over 177000. upon recovery hank was bent on revenge working with a man named hector salamanca. he plotted to kill frin#and did so. in fact the bomb that he used was built by me and he gave me no option in it. i have often contemplated suicide but i am a cowa#d. i wanted to go to the police but i was frightened. hank had risen in the ranks to become head of the DEA and about that time to keep me#n line he took my children. for 3 months he kept them.my wife who up until that point had no idea of my criminal activities was horrified t#learn what i had done. why hank had taken our children. we were scared. i was in hell i hated myself for what i had brought upon my family.#recently i tried once again to quit to end this nightmare and in response he gave me this. i cant take this anymore. i live in fear every#ay that hank will kill me or worse hurt my family. i... all i could think to do was make this video in hope that the world will finally see#this man for what he really is.#breaking bad#walter white#your fave is an anime girl#your fave is#hall of fame
