I have... a pet peeve, for those who will listen. And only for those who will listen in good faith cause the internet has jaded me and makes me expect pushback and poor faith arguments on everything no matter how hard I try to be genuine. Please be nice i'm sorry for defensively preempting this.

but.. I feel like there's this.. I dont want to say trend. There's this thing that happens, when people whose sexuality is very open, very encompassing and non-specific, where they make the assumption that because *they* experience sexual attraction regardless of gender, that all other people secretly do too? Like there's this belief that we're all bisexual/pansexual/infinitely multisexual, but that we box ourselves in and restrict ourselves to fit in or to match societal expectations.

But it's like. yall. I am not attracted to women. I'm just not. They can be pretty and cute and beautiful and big and muscular and strong and aesthetically appealing but I just don't have any desire to be sexually or romantically close with a woman, and it feels weird when people are like... "well but we all experience attraction to everyone / people regardless of gender, right?" I don't!

Re: preempting bad faith: this isn't about trans people or clocking them, nor anything nb exclusionary. It also! isn't saying multisexual identities are invalid in any way- they're just not universal.

I get so frustrated by "yeah make vampires scary again" stuff every time a vampire movie has a "monster" vampire (Nosferatu, Voyage of the Demeter, etc). It reeks of an attitude that thinks all horror is about something being ugly and horrifying on the outside. If you can't see the horror in Interview With the Vampire, or a Jean Rollin film, or The Hunger, or Carmilla, or the vampire sections of Baldur's Gate because they are attractive that is absolutely an issue on your end. There is such a rich well of themes to dig into with horror and vampires, especially where sex and romance are concerned, but people are so desperate to separate romance and horror. The despair of being frozen as a child even while your mind matures, the loneliness of an eternity alone, the terror of eternal hunger that can't be sated, the awful seduction by something beautiful but monstrous. Trying to turn vampires into just any other monster doesn't make them more horrifying, its just a more kind of overt horror that can only be done so many times and is often covered better by other monsters.

The "Sansa reminds Sandor of his sister" motive that some people try to hitch to his character really just flies in the face of his actual attachments to her, doesn't it? Sansa reminds Sandor of himself. He sees the little boy who used to love knights in this girl who's been swept up by the same romanticism. He sees his abuser in her abusers, the much larger knight(s) beating on the helpless child. He sees how she is betrayed by every level of authority that should have saved her and remembers his father's neglect and Tywin and Robert's apathy for Gregor's crimes. He's protective of Sansa because he was Sansa.

And GRRM's design, that one of the strongest warriors in the series, a fearsome and cynical 6'8" guy who's "muscled like a bull" and has the face of death itself, sees himself in this soft and effeminate teen girl, and empathizes with her because he was an abuse victim too, is INFINITELY more compelling than "Oh yeah I bet she just reminds him of his sister," who he's never mentioned and who we know literally nothing about. Way to unnecessarily water down a character, you couldn't have ignored the black and white text more efficiently if you tried.

dont get me wrong, clowing on trump for trying to buy greenland is fun and all and we all love a good meme, but i think a lot of it also misses a major point

denmark countering the offer and saying they want to buy america instead, and essentially telling trump "fuck off, greenland will always belong to denmark" isnt that funny anymore when you remember that greenland, and its native people, have been colonised by several nordic countries and lastly denmark, and denmark saying it will "always be part of us" is continuing said colonisation. theres a long history of forcing natives from their homes and from their land, forced sterilisation for controlling the native population and instead fill the country with settlers, forcibly relocating children to denmark to raise them speaking a different language, follow a different religion, lose their own culture.

native greenlanders have been trying for years to gain complete independence from their colonisers so denmark can also fuck right off with their "greenland will always be ours" bullshit.

i just saw a video from a dutch politician joking about taking back new york and revive their old colony there under the name "new amsterdam", turning the trump tower into a red light district, etc etc and sure, thats a little funny, but again: a colony. sure, the dutch werent the biggest most famous offernders in north america but that doesnt mean they werent offenders at all. native americans suffered under them just as much, still had their land stolen from them by the dutch, had their children taken and their rights stripped away.

the dutch didnt only bring settlers with them, they also brought slaves, many of them, yet another group of people that was taken from their native lands and forced into labour in absolutely subhuman conditions. joking about reviving a colony isnt as funny as some people seem to think it is for the sake of a funny 60 second clip.

when you see videos or memes of people clowning on trump buying greenland, ask yourself who really is the butt of the joke here and remember that greenland will always belong to the greenlanders. hopefully we will see them gain independence from denmark in our lifetime.
